Cross-Reference Analysis
Revelation — Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis
Destination language: Pashto | Curriculum: Revelation | Phase 1, Step 3
This document maps every Old Testament quotation and allusion, every messianic reference and typological pattern, and every significant parallel to the existing Romans Language Package, across the entire book of Revelation (chapters 1–22), with the core passage (Revelation 21:1–8) receiving the fullest treatment. It supplies rendering-consistency rules so that shared quotations, titles, and doctrinal vocabulary are translated identically wherever they recur — within Revelation, and across the Revelation/Romans curriculum boundary.
This document must be read together with 07_semantic_analysis.md and 08_core_glossary.md, and does not repeat their term-level risk reasoning except where a cross-reference creates a new consistency requirement.
1. Citation Normalization Conventions
All Scripture citations in Phase 1/2 artifacts must be normalizable to the pattern:
<English Book Name> <Chapter>:<Verse>[-<Verse>]
e.g., Genesis 15:6, Isaiah 65:17, Romans 8:17, Revelation 21:4.
Pashto-facing output uses the established/extended book-name table below. Verse numerals follow the destination-platform convention already set by the baseline (Eastern Arabic-Indic or Latin numerals — confirm and hold constant within a document).
1.1 Book Names — Baseline (reused exactly)
| English | Pashto |
|---|---|
| Romans | رومیان |
| Genesis | پیدایښت |

1.3 Normalization Rule
Every cross-reference entry below cites the OT/NT source in the <Book Chapter:Verse> format so automated tooling can match citations across the Romans and Revelation translation memories without manual reconciliation.
2. Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations and Titles
Where an OT passage is quoted or clearly alluded to in both Romans and Revelation, or where a title/phrase must remain identical across Revelation’s own occurrences, the following binding rules apply. These are additions to, and never contradict, the baseline’s own cross-document consistency principle (already applied to Romans 1:16–17, 8:28, 10:9–10).
| Rule # | Shared Source / Title | Occurrences | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| R1 | Isaiah 11:1,10 (“Root of Jesse” / “Root of David”) | Romans 15:12; Revelation 5:5; 22:16 | Render the “root” imagery (ریښه, reesha) identically across both curricula. Romans 15:12 cites Isaiah to ground Gentile inclusion; Revelation reuses the same OT root-image as a title for the enthroned, worshiped Christ. Teach explicitly as the same OT promise reaching two connected climaxes. |
| R2 | Genesis 49:9-10 (“Lion of Judah,” royal scepter) | Not directly quoted in Romans, but underlies Romans’ “seed of David” Christology (Romans 1:3) | Keep د یهودا زمری (Lion of Judah) and د داود نسل (Seed of David, baseline) visibly linked in teaching notes as two threads of the same Genesis-rooted royal promise. |
| R3 | ”Alpha and Omega” / God as source-and-goal of all things | Romans 11:36 (“from him and through him and to him are all things”); Revelation 1:8; 21:6; 22:13 | Both passages assert God’s absolute sovereignty over the totality of history using different but doctrinally identical formulas. Teach as thematically unified (Sovereignty of God over History), while keeping each passage’s own established wording fixed and not merging the two Pashto phrasings into one. |
| R4 | νικάω (nikaō, “to conquer/overcome”) | Romans 8:37 (“more than conquerors,” ὑπερνικῶμεν); Revelation 2:7 and throughout ch. 2-3; 12:11; 21:7 | Both use the identical Greek root. Render Romans 8:37 and Revelation’s “overcomer” formula with cognate Pashto vocabulary from بریالی کیدل (bryali kedal) so a Pashto reader can recognize the lexical connection: the “more than conquerors” of Romans 8 is fulfilled in the “overcomers” who inherit all things in Revelation 21:7. |
| R5 | υἱοθεσία / κληρονομέω (adoption / inheritance) | Romans 8:14-17,23 (اباء, زوی نیول); Revelation 21:7 (ورثه, waratha) | Teach as a single doctrine unfolding across both books: Romans establishes present adoption as God’s children and future inheritance; Revelation 21:7 is that inheritance’s final, eschatological delivery. Do not introduce a new Pashto term for “inheritance” in Revelation without cross-checking it reads as continuous with Romans 8’s adoption doctrine. |
| R6 | Isaiah 45:23 (every knee bows, universal confession) | Romans 14:11 (direct quotation); Revelation 5:13; 7:9-12 (thematic parallel, universal worship of the Lamb) | Romans 14:11 quotes Isaiah directly regarding every knee bowing to God; Revelation displays this fulfilled in every creature worshiping God and the Lamb together. Flag this connection explicitly when teaching Revelation 5 so the deity-of-Christ argument is seen as the fulfillment of Romans 14:11’s OT-grounded universal confession, not an unrelated new claim. |
| R7 | ”Wrath of God/the Lamb” (ὀργή) | Romans 1:18; 2:5; 5:9 (باseline “wrath” concept, tied to نجات/سوله doctrine); Revelation 6:16; 14:10,19; 16:19; 19:15 | Keep غضب (ghazab) as the consistent Pashto term for divine/messianic wrath across both curricula; in Revelation, always pair it explicitly with the Lamb’s identity per the note already recorded in 07_semantic_analysis.md (Ch. 6) so the paradox of the Lamb’s wrath is not resolved by softening either word. |
| R8 | ”Peace and grace” epistolary greeting | Romans 1:7 (فضل او سوله); Revelation 1:4 | Render Revelation 1:4’s greeting with the identical established baseline terms فضل (grace) and سوله (peace), signaling continuity of apostolic greeting convention across NT letters. |
| R9 | ”No condemnation” / “no more death, mourning, crying, pain” | Romans 8:1 (baseline, no condemnation for those in Christ); Revelation 21:4 | Teach as two movements of the same assurance doctrine: Romans 8:1 is the legal removal of condemnation now; Revelation 21:4 is its experiential, final, cosmic outworking. Keep the honor-shame/forensic bridging notes from baseline “justification” active when teaching Revelation 21:4. |
| R10 | David covenant proper name | Romans 1:3 (داود، د داود نسل); Revelation 3:7; 5:5; 22:16 (داود، د داود کیلي، د داود ریښه) | Use داود (Dawud) identically in both curricula; never substitute a variant transliteration. |
| R11 | ”Righteous deeds” of the saints (Revelation 19:8, δικαιώματα) vs. imputed righteousness (Romans, δικαιοσύνη) | Romans 3:20-28; 4:3-5 (باseline “imputed_righteousness,” Critical); Revelation 19:8 | These are related but distinct senses: Romans’ δικαιοσύνη/imputed righteousness is the credited legal status received by faith (never earned — see baseline’s explicit rejection of لاسته راوړی صداقت); Revelation 19:8’s “righteous deeds” (translate as د مقدسانو صادق کارونه, “the righteous acts of the saints”) are the visible fruit that flows from that already-credited status. Never render Revelation 19:8 in a way that suggests the bride’s garment is self-earned; the text itself says the fine linen “was given” (ἐδόθη) to her. |
| R12 | Kingdom of God / Kingdom of our Lord | Romans 14:17 (باseline د خدای پاچاهي); Revelation 11:15; 12:10 | Render identically; teach Revelation 11:15 as the announced consummation in history of the same kingdom Romans describes as already present but not yet fully manifest. |
3. Chapter-by-Chapter Cross-Reference Matrix
Chapter 1 — Prologue and Vision of the Glorified Christ
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 1:1 | Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation | John, angel | Cf. Daniel 2:28-29 (God who reveals mysteries) | مکاشفه (apokalypsis) risk already flagged (High) for Sufi kashf-collision; anchor to Daniel’s revelatory-disclosure pattern, not generic mystical experience. |
| Revelation 1:5 | Perseverance and Faithful Witness | Jesus Christ | Psalm 89:27,37 (“firstborn,” “faithful witness,” Davidic covenant) | “Faithful witness” (ὁ μάρτυς ὁ πιστός) applied first to Christ himself before believers; must use شاهد/شاهدي consistently — never شهید — establishing the pattern followed for all later occurrences (see rule under Ch. 11 below). |
| Revelation 1:6 | Worship of the Lamb / Church as Bride | believers | Exodus 19:6 (“a kingdom of priests”); reused in 1 Peter 2:9 | Kingdom-and-priests formula (پاچاهي او کاهنان) links Israel’s Sinai covenant identity directly to the church; teach continuity, not replacement, of God’s one redeemed people. |
| Revelation 1:7 | The Return and Reign of Christ | Christ, “every eye” | Daniel 7:13 (coming with the clouds); Zechariah 12:10 (they look on him whom they pierced) | Combines two distinct OT texts into one composite messianic prediction; both must be identifiable in teaching notes as literal historical prophecy fulfilled in Christ, resisting a naskh-style “later revelation supersedes” framing. |
| Revelation 1:8 | Sovereignty of God over History | God (“the Lord God”) | Isaiah 41:4; 44:6; 48:12 (I am the first and the last) | Establishes الفا او اومیګا (Alpha and Omega) as first applied to God the Father; must be rendered identically when reapplied to Christ at 21:6 and 22:13 (see Rule R3). |
| Revelation 1:12-16 | The Return and Reign of Christ (deity of Christ) | “one like a son of man” | Daniel 7:9-10 (Ancient of Days, hair like wool); Daniel 10:5-6 (radiant figure) | Deliberate fusion of Daniel’s human (“son of man”) and divine (Ancient of Days) imagery onto one figure; Critical — see baseline “son_of_god”/“deity_of_christ” and glossary #23. |
| Revelation 1:18 | Judgment of the Wicked / Assurance of Final Victory | Christ | Cf. Hosea 13:14 (ransom from death); parallels Romans 6:9 (death no longer has dominion over him) | “Keys of Death and Hades” — direct thematic parallel to Romans 6:9’s resurrection-victory language; keep مرګ (death) and هاډیس (Hades) distinct per glossary #69/#95. |
Chapters 2–3 — Letters to the Seven Churches
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 2:7 | New Heaven and New Earth / Perseverance | overcomer | Genesis 2:9; 3:22-24 (tree of life, Eden access barred) | First mention of tree-of-life restoration motif, resolved fully at Revelation 22:2,14; keep د ژوند ونه consistent across both occurrences. |
| Revelation 2:14 | Perseverance under Persecution (warning) | Balaam, Balak | Numbers 22-25; 31:16 (Balaam’s compromise) | Proper-name allusion; low lexical risk, but the underlying issue (compromise with idolatry to survive/prosper) intersects directly with the persecution-survival pressures of the Pashto readership — teach pastorally, not merely historically. |
| Revelation 2:17 | Vindication of the Saints | overcomer | Exodus 16:32-34 (hidden manna preserved before the LORD) | Requires OT background teaching (manna, مانا) to land; low independent lexical risk. |
| Revelation 2:26-27 | The Return and Reign of Christ | overcomer, Christ | Psalm 2:8-9 (rod of iron, nations as inheritance) | Establishes Psalm 2’s royal-messianic decree as the basis for the overcomer’s delegated authority; reused at Revelation 12:5; 19:15 — keep “rod of iron” (د اوسپني امسا/راډ) consistent at all three occurrences. |
| Revelation 3:7 | Davidic Covenant / Return and Reign of Christ | Christ | Isaiah 22:22 (key of the house of David) | “Key of David” (see glossary #26); pairs with baseline’s Davidic Covenant High-risk note — Dawud is a positively regarded Quranic figure but without covenant-king-to-Messiah typology. |
| Revelation 3:12 | New Heaven and New Earth / Church as Bride | overcomer | Ezekiel 48:35 (the LORD is there); anticipates Revelation 21:2,10 | First mention of “new Jerusalem” (نوی یروشلم); must be taught consistently with the fuller treatment at 21:2 — see High risk note in 07_semantic_analysis.md. |
| Revelation 3:14 | Perseverance and Faithful Witness | Christ (“the Amen”) | Isaiah 65:16 (“the God of truth/Amen,” Hebrew Elohei Amen) | Fixed liturgical word آمین used as a personal divine title; must be visibly flagged as a title in teaching material, not merely an affirmation-response. |
Chapter 4 — The Throne Room
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 4:1-2 | Sovereignty of God over History | God (enthroned) | Ezekiel 1:26-28; Daniel 7:9 (throne visions) | تخت (throne) risk already flagged Medium; teach as fulfillment/continuation of the OT prophets’ own throne-room visions, not a novel image. |
| Revelation 4:6-8 | Worship of the Lamb | four living creatures | Ezekiel 1:5-10, 18-21 (four living creatures with four faces); Isaiah 6:2-3 (seraphim, “Holy, Holy, Holy”) | Composite of two OT throne-visions; must keep ژوندي مخلوقات distinct from the later “beast” (حیوان) vocabulary — see glossary note #33/#57. |
| Revelation 4:8 | Sovereignty of God over History | four living creatures | Isaiah 6:3 (Trisagion) | Reuses baseline “holy” (مقدس) exactly; do not treat as generic devotional chant — anchor to the specific triune worship scene. |
| Revelation 4:9-11 | Worship of the Lamb (anticipatory) | 24 elders | Cf. Psalm 148 (all creation praises the Creator) | “Worthy” (وړ) introduced here for God the Creator; reused for the Lamb at 5:9,12 — the deliberate parallel is the chapter’s structural argument for Christ’s shared worthiness. |
Chapter 5 — The Scroll and the Lamb
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 5:5 | Return and Reign of Christ / Davidic Covenant | Christ (“Lion of Judah,” “Root of David”) | Genesis 49:9-10; Isaiah 11:1,10 | See Rendering Rules R1 and R2 above — direct link to Romans 15:12’s citation of Isaiah 11:10. Critical for cross-curriculum consistency. |
| Revelation 5:6 | Worship of the Lamb | Christ (“Lamb…as though slain”) | Isaiah 53:7 (led like a lamb to slaughter); Exodus 12 (Passover lamb) | Central Critical term بره introduced; both a positive sacrificial-typology bridge and the sharpest deity-of-Christ worship claim in the book (see full note in 07_semantic_analysis.md, Ch. 5). |
| Revelation 5:8-9 | Worship of the Lamb / Judgment & Vindication | 24 elders, four living creatures | Cf. Psalm 33:3; 40:3 (“new song”); Exodus 19:5-6 (redeemed people) | “Redeemed/purchased” (پیرودل شوی) parallels Romans 3:24’s ἀπολύτρωσις (redemption) — both describe a price paid by God, not a reciprocity-creating exchange the redeemed must repay; reinforce baseline grace note. |
| Revelation 5:9-10 | Church as Bride / Unity of Jews and Gentiles | redeemed multitude | Cf. Romans 3:29-30; 10:12 (no distinction, Jew and Gentile) | “Every tribe, language, people, nation” directly parallels Romans’ Jew-Gentile unity argument; keep غیر یهودیان-family vocabulary consistent in teaching cross-references. |
| Revelation 5:13-14 | Worship of the Lamb | ”every creature” | Cf. Isaiah 45:23; Romans 14:11; Philippians 2:10-11 | See Rendering Rule R6 — universal creaturely worship of God and the Lamb together is the fulfillment-echo of Isaiah 45:23 as already cited in Romans 14:11. |
Chapter 6 — The Four Horsemen and Fifth/Sixth Seals
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 6:1-8 | Sovereignty of God over History / Judgment of the Wicked | four horsemen | Zechariah 1:8-11; 6:1-8 (four horses/chariots as agents of God’s sovereign judgment); Ezekiel 14:21 (sword, famine, plague, wild beasts) | Symbolic-apocalyptic imagery; teach per Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation doctrine — these are agents under God’s sovereign permission, not independent chaos-forces. |
| Revelation 6:9-11 | Vindication of the Saints / Perseverance | martyrs’ souls | Cf. Genesis 4:10 (Abel’s blood crying out); Psalm 79:10 | ”How long, O Lord” prayer for justice; reuses baseline “lord” exactly; central Assurance-of-Final-Victory text. |
| Revelation 6:12-14 | Judgment of the Wicked | cosmic upheaval | Joel 2:31; Isaiah 13:10 (sun darkened, moon like blood); Isaiah 34:4 (sky recedes like a scroll); Hosea 10:8 (mountains, “fall on us”) | Stock OT day-of-the-LORD imagery reused wholesale; teach as continuous with prophetic tradition, not new invention — reinforces Fulfillment of Prophecy doctrine (baseline High). |
| Revelation 6:16 | Judgment of the Wicked | Christ (“wrath of the Lamb”) | Hosea 10:8 (“fall on us”); parallels Romans 1:18; 2:5 | See Rendering Rule R7. |
Chapter 7 — The 144,000 and the Great Multitude
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 7:2-4 | Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation / Vindication of Saints | 144,000, sealing angel | Ezekiel 9:4 (mark on the forehead of the faithful before judgment) | Sealing-for-protection motif; keep مهر distinct from the beast’s mark (نخښه/داغ, Ch. 13) — same seal/mark contrast the semantic analysis already flags. |
| Revelation 7:9-10 | Unity of Jews and Gentiles / Universal Scope of Gospel | great multitude | Cf. Genesis 12:3; 22:18 (Abrahamic promise to bless all nations); parallels Romans 4:16-17; 15:9-12 | Direct fulfillment-echo of the Abrahamic covenant’s universal scope, already a major thread in Romans 4 and 15; teach the two curricula as one continuous covenant story. |
| Revelation 7:14 | Judgment of the Wicked / Vindication of Saints | multitude | Cf. Isaiah 1:18 (though stained scarlet, washed white); parallels Romans 5:9 (justified by his blood) | “Washed…in the blood of the Lamb” parallels Romans’ blood-atonement language exactly; maintain identical theological force — cleansing, not merit. |
| Revelation 7:16-17 | New Heaven and New Earth (anticipatory) | multitude | Isaiah 49:10 (direct quotation: no more hunger/thirst, sun’s heat); Psalm 23:1-2 (shepherd) | Direct OT quotation; anticipates the fuller “no more” list of Revelation 21:4 — keep vocabulary for hunger/thirst/tears consistent between 7:16-17 and 21:4. |
Chapter 8 — The Seven Trumpets Begin
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 8:5 | Sovereignty of God over History | angel | Ezekiel 10:2 (coals from the altar scattered); cf. Leviticus 16:12-13 (incense before the mercy seat) | Ties altar-incense imagery to the OT sacrificial system’s mediating function; low new lexical risk. |
| Revelation 8:3-4 | Perseverance and Faithful Witness (prayer) | angel, “prayers of the saints” | Psalm 141:2 (prayer as incense) | Reuses baseline “saints” and “intercession” exactly; strong positive bridge — see 07_semantic_analysis.md Ch. 8 note. |
| Revelation 8:7-12 | Judgment of the Wicked | trumpet judgments | Exodus 7-10 (Egyptian plagues: hail/fire, water to blood, darkness) | Direct Exodus-plague typology; teach explicitly as a “new Exodus” judgment pattern — reinforces Sovereignty of God over History as continuous with the Exodus narrative. |
Chapter 9 — The Fifth and Sixth Trumpets
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 9:1-11 | Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation / Judgment | locust-demons, Abaddon | Exodus 10:1-15 (locust plague); Joel 1:2-2:11 (locust army as apocalyptic judgment) | Symbolic, not entomological; teach per Symbolic Interpretation doctrine — see glossary #49. |
| Revelation 9:20-21 | Judgment of the Wicked | unrepentant humanity | Cf. Psalm 115:4-7; Isaiah 44:9-20 (idols that cannot see/hear/act) | Standard OT idol-polemic reused; genuine point of theological overlap with surrounding Islamic monotheism (cf. glossary #87, idolaters) — a positive bridge if handled carefully. |
Chapter 10 — The Little Scroll
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 10:9-10 | Inspiration of Scripture / Symbolic Interpretation | John, angel | Ezekiel 2:9-3:3 (eat the scroll, sweet then bitter) | Direct OT commissioning-act typology; reinforces Inspiration of Scripture doctrine (baseline High). |
| Revelation 10:6-7 | Sovereignty of God over History | angel | Daniel 12:7 (oath by the Living One, “time, times, and half a time”) | First occurrence of the “no more delay” oath-formula, resumed at Revelation 11:2-3; 12:14; 13:5 — keep time-period vocabulary consistent across all four occurrences. |
Chapter 11 — The Two Witnesses
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 11:3-6 | Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution | two witnesses | 1 Kings 17:1 (Elijah, no rain); Exodus 7:17-20 (Moses, water to blood); Zechariah 4:2-3,11-14 (two olive trees/lampstands) | Critical — see full reasoning in 07_semantic_analysis.md, Ch. 11. The witnesses are typologically patterned on Moses and Elijah; the Pashto rendering must use شاهد/شاهدي throughout, never شهید, given the severe real-world jihadi-martyrdom collision risk documented there. |
| Revelation 11:8 | Judgment of the Wicked | ”the great city” | Cf. Isaiah 1:10 (“Sodom”); Ezekiel 16:46-49 (Sodom typology for a corrupt city) | Symbolic naming convention (“figuratively called Sodom and Egypt”) — reinforces Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation doctrine; not a literal geographic claim. |
| Revelation 11:11-12 | Resurrection of Christ (typological extension) / Vindication of Saints | two witnesses | Ezekiel 37:5-10 (breath enters the slain, they stand up); parallels Romans 6:4-5; 8:11 | Direct allusion to Ezekiel’s dry-bones resurrection vision, applied to two individuals as a preview/type of the general resurrection; keep بیا راژوندي کیدل (baseline) exactly. |
| Revelation 11:15 | Return and Reign of Christ / Kingdom of God | ”loud voices in heaven” | Cf. Daniel 2:44; 7:14,27 (an everlasting kingdom given to the saints) | See Rendering Rule R12; central Kingdom-of-God consummation text. |
Chapter 12 — The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 12:1-2,5 | Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation / Return and Reign of Christ | the woman, the male child | Isaiah 66:7-8 (Zion gives birth); Genesis 37:9-10 (sun, moon, stars — Joseph’s dream, corporate-Israel imagery) | Corporate-symbolic figure (covenant people, not an individual); must not be conflated with devotional veneration of Maryam — see High risk note in 07_semantic_analysis.md. |
| Revelation 12:5,9 | Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil | the male child, the dragon | Genesis 3:15 (the woman’s offspring will crush the serpent’s head); Psalm 2:9 (rod of iron) | Foundational protevangelium typology — Genesis 3:15 finds its fulfillment here; teach explicitly as the Bible’s first messianic promise reaching completion. |
| Revelation 12:7-9 | Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil | Michael, the dragon | Daniel 12:1 (Michael, prince who stands for God’s people); Daniel 10:13,21 | Reuses shared, positively regarded Quranic figure Mika’il; teach as a genuine created angelic agent of God’s already-decisive victory, not a rival power. |
| Revelation 12:10-11 | Perseverance and Faithful Witness / Assurance of Final Victory | believers, “the accuser” | Job 1:6-11; Zechariah 3:1-2 (Satan as accuser before God) | Combines Lamb’s-blood atonement with the μάρτυς/testimony theme; Critical hinge verse — see glossary note #24 and #35 requiring exact established renderings. |
| Revelation 12:14 | Sovereignty of God over History | the woman | Daniel 7:25 (“time, times, and half a time”) | Reuses Daniel’s time-formula from Revelation 11; keep vocabulary consistent per note under Ch. 10. |
Chapter 13 — The Two Beasts and the Mark
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 13:1-2 | Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation / Judgment of the Wicked | sea-beast | Daniel 7:2-7 (four beasts from the sea, composite imagery); Daniel 7:25 (blasphemous words) | Direct Danielic typology; teach as a symbolic composite of God-opposing worldly power across history, resisting narrow present-day political identification — see High risk note. |
| Revelation 13:5-6 | Judgment of the Wicked | sea-beast | Daniel 7:8,25; 11:36 (self-exalting speech against the Most High) | “Blasphemy” (سپکاوی/توهین) — see Rendering Rule and glossary #61; never render with کفر. |
| Revelation 13:11-15 | Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation | earth-beast/false prophet | Cf. Deuteronomy 13:1-3 (false signs testing loyalty to God) | Reinforces discernment-under-persecution theme; false miracle-workers are an OT-rooted category, not a novel apocalyptic invention. |
Chapter 14 — The Lamb, the Harvest, and Babylon’s Fall Foretold
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 14:1-5 | Worship of the Lamb / Vindication of the Saints | 144,000, the Lamb | Cf. Exodus 19:6 (holy nation); parallels Romans 12:1 (living sacrifice) | Reuses 144,000 symbolic-completeness sense from Ch. 7. |
| Revelation 14:8 | Judgment of the Wicked | ”Babylon” (first mention) | Isaiah 21:9; Jeremiah 51:8 (“Babylon is fallen, is fallen”) | Establishes the Babylon typology fully developed in Ch. 17-18; keep بابل consistent across all occurrences. |
| Revelation 14:10 | Judgment of the Wicked | the wicked | Isaiah 51:17; Jeremiah 25:15 (cup of God’s wrath) | “Wine of God’s wrath” — reinforces Rendering Rule R7’s غضب consistency. |
| Revelation 14:14-16 | Return and Reign of Christ (deity) | “one like a son of man” | Joel 3:13 (“put in the sickle, the harvest is ripe”); reuses Daniel 7:13 Son of Man title from Ch. 1 | Critical — reused deity-of-Christ Son-of-Man title; must render identically to Ch. 1. |
| Revelation 14:19-20 | Judgment of the Wicked | judgment imagery | Isaiah 63:1-6 (treading the winepress of wrath) | Symbolic judgment imagery — teach as such per Symbolic Interpretation doctrine, not literalistic gore. |
Chapter 15 — Preparation for the Seven Bowls
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 15:3 | Sovereignty of God over History / Worship of the Lamb | overcomers | Exodus 15:1-18 (Song of Moses); Psalm 111:2-3; Jeremiah 10:7 (King of the nations) | The Song of Moses (OT redemption) and the Song of the Lamb (NT redemption) are sung as ONE song — direct typological fusion of Exodus and the cross; teach Exodus deliverance as the OT type of the Lamb’s redemption. |
| Revelation 15:4 | Judgment of the Wicked / Sovereignty of God | ”all nations” | Psalm 86:9-10; Jeremiah 10:7 | Universal-worship theme, parallels Romans 15:9-11’s catena of OT nations-praise texts. |
Chapter 16 — The Seven Bowls of Wrath
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 16:3-6 | Judgment of the Wicked | bowl judgments | Exodus 7:17-21 (water to blood, first plague); parallels the trumpet judgments of Ch. 8-9 | Exodus-plague typology intensified/escalated; teach the seals→trumpets→bowls sequence as an intensifying pattern, not three unrelated series (Symbolic Interpretation doctrine). |
| Revelation 16:16 | Judgment of the Wicked / Symbolic Interpretation | kings of the earth | Judges 5:19; 2 Kings 23:29 (Megiddo as a historic battle site) | “Armageddon” (Har-Megiddo) is a symbolic OT-echoing place-name, not necessarily a literal predicted GPS location — see High risk note; critical for avoiding date/place-setting excesses among a persecuted readership. |
| Revelation 16:21 | Judgment of the Wicked | unrepentant humanity | Exodus 9:22-25 (hail plague) | “Blasphemed” — see glossary #61 and Ch. 16 note in 07_semantic_analysis.md: never render with کفر given its apostasy-law danger. |
Chapter 17 — The Great Prostitute and the Beast
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 17:1-6 | Judgment of the Wicked / Symbolic Interpretation | the great prostitute | Jeremiah 51:7 (Babylon, golden cup); Ezekiel 16:15-19; 23:1-21 (unfaithful-city-as-adulteress motif applied to Jerusalem/Samaria in the OT, here transferred to the corrupt world-system) | The OT itself uses this “unfaithful city” image for Israel’s own apostasy; Revelation transfers it to the anti-God world-system — teach this transfer explicitly so it is not misheard as an ethnic or religious slur against any specific present-day people. |
| Revelation 17:9-14 | Sovereignty of God over History / Symbolic Interpretation | seven heads, ten horns | Daniel 7:7-8,20,24 (composite beast with horns representing successive kingdoms) | Reinforces Danielic four-kingdoms typology; symbolic succession of God-opposing empires across history, not one single identifiable regime. |
Chapter 18 — The Fall of Babylon
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 18:2-3 | Judgment of the Wicked | Babylon | Isaiah 13:19-22; 21:9; Jeremiah 50:39-40; 51:8,37 (Babylon’s historical fall oracles) | Reuses the entire OT Babylon-judgment oracle tradition; teach as the final, complete fulfillment/escalation of a repeated OT pattern (historical Babylon → final world-system). |
| Revelation 18:4 | Separation unto God’s Service | God’s people | Cf. Jeremiah 51:45; Isaiah 52:11 (“Come out of her, my people”) | Direct quotation pattern from Jeremiah/Isaiah’s call to leave literal Babylon; ties to baseline’s Separation doctrine (High) — engaged devotion within the world while refusing complicity with its corrupt system, not monastic withdrawal. |
| Revelation 18:9-19 | Judgment of the Wicked | kings, merchants, sailors | Ezekiel 26-27 (lament over Tyre — merchants’ mourning pattern reused wholesale) | Direct literary-form borrowing from Ezekiel’s Tyre lament; a case study for teaching how NT apocalyptic reuses whole OT genres, not just phrases. |
Chapter 19 — The Rider on the White Horse and the Marriage Supper
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 19:1-6 | Worship of the Lamb / Sovereignty of God | heavenly multitude | Psalm 97:1; 99:1 (the LORD reigns); parallels Romans 11:33-36 (doxology) | “Hallelujah” liturgical convention (already fixed by baseline transliteration هلیلویاه); reinforces Sovereignty-of-God doxological pattern shared with Romans 11’s closing praise. |
| Revelation 19:7-9 | Church as Bride of Christ | the Lamb, the bride | Cf. Hosea 2:19-20; Isaiah 62:5 (God/Israel marriage covenant imagery) | High risk (see glossary #63, #74); the OT already contains a God-as-bridegroom/Israel-as-bride marriage-covenant metaphor (Hosea, Isaiah) — this OT background should be actively taught as the positive precedent making the NT bride-of-Christ image less foreign, while still requiring the explicit corporate-metaphor clarification flagged in 07_semantic_analysis.md. |
| Revelation 19:11-16 | Return and Reign of Christ | the rider (“Faithful and True,” “Word of God,” “King of Kings”) | Isaiah 63:1-3 (blood-dipped robe, treading the winepress alone); Psalm 2:9 (rod of iron) | Critical — composite of multiple OT messianic-warrior texts onto one figure explicitly named “the Word of God”; reinforces baseline Incarnation/Logos Critical entry. |
| Revelation 19:17-18 | Judgment of the Wicked | birds, carrion | Ezekiel 39:17-20 (summons to birds and beasts to feast on the slain — direct source text) | Direct literary quotation-pattern from Ezekiel’s Gog oracle, reused proleptically here before Gog/Magog’s own fuller appearance in Ch. 20 — flag this chronological literary technique explicitly for teachers. |
Chapter 20 — The Millennium, Final Judgment, and the Lake of Fire
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 20:1-3 | Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil | Satan, angel | Cf. Isaiah 24:21-22 (imprisonment of hostile powers) | Binding-in-the-abyss motif has OT precedent; teach as continuous with, not foreign to, the prophetic tradition. |
| Revelation 20:4-6 | Vindication of the Saints / Return and Reign of Christ | martyrs, overcomers | Daniel 7:9,22,27 (thrones, judgment given to the saints, kingdom given to the holy people) | Millennium doctrine (Critical, glossary #66) draws directly on Daniel 7’s saints-reigning imagery; must be explicitly distinguished from the Mahdi-led golden-age expectation per baseline’s “messiah” note. |
| Revelation 20:8 | Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation / Assurance of Final Victory | Gog and Magog | Ezekiel 38:1-39:16 (Gog of Magog, the northern invader defeated by God) | Critical — near-identical name-pair to Qur’anic Ya’juj wa Ma’juj; must be explicitly distinguished per the full reasoning in 07_semantic_analysis.md Ch. 20. |
| Revelation 20:11-13 | Judgment of the Wicked | the dead, “books,” “the book of life” | Daniel 7:9-10 (books opened); Daniel 12:1-2 (book of life; some to everlasting life, some to shame) | Direct Danielic source for both the throne-and-books imagery and the double-resurrection (life/judgment) pattern; central Judgment-of-the-Wicked text — teach against the deeds-weighing (mizan) default per baseline’s “righteousness”/“salvation” Critical notes. |
| Revelation 20:14-15 | Judgment of the Wicked | Death, Hades, the unsaved | Cf. Isaiah 25:8 (death swallowed up — echoed again positively at 21:4) | “Lake of fire…second death” (Critical, glossary #71); see full reasoning already documented — teach against دوزخ/Jahannam’s mizan framework, anchored instead to the book of life. |
Chapters 21:9–27 — The New Jerusalem Described (beyond the core passage)
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 21:10-14 | New Heaven and New Earth / Church as Bride | New Jerusalem, twelve tribes, twelve apostles | Ezekiel 40-48 (measured temple-city vision); Ezekiel 48:30-35 (twelve named gates) | Direct architectural-typological source; teach the numeric symbolism (12 gates/12 tribes/12 apostles) as symbolic totality/unity of OT-and-NT covenant people together, not literal city-planning data. |
| Revelation 21:16 | Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation | the city’s measurements | Ezekiel 40:5; 45:1-6 (measured holy space) | 12,000 stadia (12³ × 1,000) — symbolic-numeric perfection; reinforce Symbolic Interpretation doctrine. |
| Revelation 21:22-23 | Church as Bride / New Heaven and New Earth | God, the Lamb | Isaiah 60:19-20 (the LORD as everlasting light, no need of sun) | Direct quotation-pattern; ties positively to baseline’s “church_as_gods_people” Critical note about the absence of physical church buildings for Pashto house-churches — templeless, presence-centered worship as pastoral comfort. |
| Revelation 21:24-26 | Unity of Jews and Gentiles / Kingdom of God | ”the nations,” “the kings of the earth” | Isaiah 60:3,5,11 (nations bring their wealth/glory into Zion’s light) | Direct fulfillment-echo; parallels Romans 15:9-12’s Gentile-inclusion catena — teach as one continuous promise-fulfillment arc across both curricula. |
Chapter 22 — The River and Tree of Life; Epilogue
| Passage | Theme | Related Character/Figure | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revelation 22:1-2 | New Heaven and New Earth | river, tree of life | Ezekiel 47:1-12 (river flowing from the temple, trees for healing); Genesis 2:9-10 (Eden’s river and tree) | Direct fusion of Eden (Genesis) and the eschatological temple-vision (Ezekiel) — the strongest single Eden-restored typology in the whole book; teach explicitly as Genesis 3’s curse fully reversed. |
| Revelation 22:3 | New Heaven and New Earth | God’s servants | Zechariah 14:11 (“no more curse”); reverses Genesis 3:16-19 | See glossary #78; teach the specific Genesis-fall-reversal logic, not a generic pious phrase. |
| Revelation 22:3-4 | Worship of the Lamb | servants of God/the Lamb | Cf. Exodus 33:20 (no one may see God’s face and live) — reversed here: “they will see his face” | Direct OT-reversal: the very thing forbidden to fallen humanity (seeing God’s face) becomes the redeemed’s eternal privilege — powerful Assurance-of-Final-Victory teaching point. |
| Revelation 22:6 | Inspiration of Scripture | angel | Reuses core passage 21:5’s “faithful and true words”; cf. Daniel 2:45 (the dream is certain) | See core-passage v.5 note; keep ایماندار او رښتینی consistent between 21:5 and 22:6. |
| Revelation 22:16 | Davidic Covenant / Messianic Promise | Christ (“Root and Offspring of David,” “bright morning star”) | Isaiah 11:1,10 (Root of Jesse); Numbers 24:17 (a star shall come out of Jacob) | See Rendering Rule R1 (Isaiah 11 link to Romans 15:12) and morning-star note in 07_semantic_analysis.md (must be distinguished from any “Lucifer” association). |
| Revelation 22:18-19 | Inspiration of Scripture | John, the reader | Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32 (do not add to or take away from God’s word) | Direct OT canon-guarding formula reused; reinforces Fulfillment-of-Prophecy/Inspiration doctrines — must be taught as guarding this completed prophetic book specifically, without unintentionally validating or mirroring tahrif claims about other scriptures. |
| Revelation 22:20-21 | Return and Reign of Christ / Grace | Christ, the church | Cf. Romans 16:20 (closing grace benediction: “the grace of our Lord Jesus… be with you”) | Critical — see Rendering Rule (Ch.22 note in 07_semantic_analysis.md): “Come, Lord Jesus” must use the identical baseline خداوند/عیسی terms; the closing “grace be with all” must use فضل exactly as Romans’ own closing benedictions. |
4. Messianic Typology Summary Table
| OT Type / Promise | OT Source | NT/Revelation Fulfillment | Cross-Curriculum Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passover Lamb | Exodus 12:1-13 | Revelation 5:6, 12; 7:14; 12:11 (the Lamb, redeeming blood) | Parallels Romans 3:24-25 (redemption, propitiation); reinforce nanawatai-bridge already established in baseline for substitutionary atonement. |
| Davidic royal line / covenant | 2 Samuel 7:12-16; Isaiah 11:1,10 | Revelation 3:7; 5:5; 22:16 (Key/Root/Offspring of David) | Direct link to Romans 1:3 “seed of David” and Romans 15:12’s Isaiah 11:10 quotation (Rule R1/R2). |
| Suffering Servant | Isaiah 53 | Revelation 5:6,9,12 (slain Lamb, worthy because slain) | Parallels Romans 4:25; 5:8-9 (Christ died for us). |
| Son of Man | Daniel 7:13-14 | Revelation 1:13; 14:14 | Critical deity-of-Christ text; keep د انسان زوی consistent at both occurrences. |
| Protevangelium (seed of the woman) | Genesis 3:15 | Revelation 12:5,9,11 | The Bible’s first messianic promise, fulfilled in the dragon’s defeat; strong Assurance-of-Final-Victory teaching anchor. |
| New Exodus deliverance | Exodus 15 (Song of Moses) | Revelation 15:3 (Song of Moses and of the Lamb, sung together) | Teach as one redemption story, OT type fulfilled in Christ. |
| New/restored Eden | Genesis 2:8-10 | Revelation 22:1-2,14 (tree of life, river of life, curse removed) | Full narrative-arc bookend: Genesis 1-3 and Revelation 21-22 frame the whole Bible; a strong teaching device for a low-literacy, oral-culture audience. |
| God dwelling with his people (covenant formula) | Exodus 6:7; Leviticus 26:12; Ezekiel 37:27 | Revelation 21:3 | Core passage v.3; direct fulfillment of the OT covenant formula, echoing the Incarnation (تجسد, baseline Critical). |
| New Heavens and New Earth | Isaiah 65:17; 66:22 | Revelation 21:1 | Direct quotation-source for the core passage’s opening verse. |
5. Romans–Revelation Doctrinal Parallel Table (Cross-Curriculum Consistency Anchors)
| Doctrine (shared) | Romans Anchor | Revelation Anchor | Consistency Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sovereignty of God over History | Romans 8:28-30; 9:14-23; 11:33-36 | Revelation 1:8; 4-5; 17:17; 21:6; 22:13 | تدبیر (providence) and الفا/اومیګا vocabulary must read as one unified doctrine of God’s total sovereign governance, not two separate ideas. |
| Perseverance and Faithful Witness | Romans 5:3-5; 8:35-39; 12:12 | Revelation 2-3 (overcomer refrain); 12:11; 13:10; 14:12 | زغم/صبر (endurance) and بریالی کیدل (overcome) must be taught as the same perseverance doctrine at two curricular stages. |
| Judgment of the Wicked / Vindication of the Saints | Romans 1:18-3:20; 2:5-11; 14:10-12 | Revelation 6:9-11; 14:7; 19:2; 20:11-15 | فیصله/قضاوت (judgment) vocabulary and the “no distinction” universality principle must remain consistent; God’s judgment is impartial and grounded in Christ, not tribal/deeds-based reckoning. |
| The New Heaven and New Earth | Romans 8:19-23 (creation’s groaning, awaiting renewal) | Revelation 21:1-5; 22:1-5 | Teach Romans 8 as the “not yet” promise and Revelation 21-22 as its fulfillment — the same renewed-creation doctrine, not two unrelated topics. |
| Church as Bride of Christ | Romans 7:4 (united to Christ, “married” language); Romans 12:4-5 (one body) | Revelation 19:7-9; 21:2,9; 22:17 | Corporate, covenantal identity-in-Christ language (see baseline “christian_identity_in_christ,” High) must be consistent whether framed as “body” (Romans) or “bride” (Revelation) — one church, two complementary metaphors. |
| Worship of the Lamb | Romans 9:5 (Christ, “God over all, blessed forever”); Romans 14:11 (every knee bows) | Revelation 5:8-14; 7:9-12; 19:1-8 | The deity-of-Christ worship argument must be read as continuous across both books; do not let Revelation’s vivid apocalyptic worship scenes be treated as doctrinally separate from Romans’ more didactic deity-of-Christ statements. |
| Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil | Romans 8:31-39; 16:20 (“God will soon crush Satan under your feet”) | Revelation 12:7-11; 20:1-3,7-10 | Romans 16:20 is itself a direct, brief anticipation of Revelation’s fuller Satan-defeat narrative; flag this connection explicitly in teaching material as a “seed and harvest” pairing between the two curricula. |
