Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis: 2 Thessalonians — English → Pashto
This document is the full-book doctrine matrix required by PRD Phase 1 Step 4. It is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (v1, 2026-08-01): the same twenty doctrines, the same risk tiers, and the same review routing. It extends that registry with (a) a single consolidated matrix for quick reference and (b) a chapter-by-chapter walkthrough demonstrating full-book coverage — 2 Thessalonians 1:1 through 3:18 — as mandated by the PRD’s full-coverage rule. The core passage (2:1-12) is the theological anchor of the curriculum, not its scope boundary; chapters 1 and 3 receive equally rigorous treatment below.
No doctrine, risk tier, or Pashto rendering here contradicts the baseline Romans Language Package (translation_memory.json, bible_term_registry.json) or the prior analysis/08_core_glossary.md and assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json for this curriculum. Where a term is reused exactly from Romans, that is noted explicitly.
1. Full Doctrine Matrix (All 20 Doctrines, Whole Book)
| # | Doctrine | Risk | Pashto Doctrine Name | Primary Passages (2 Thessalonians) | Translation Risk Summary | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Day of the Lord | Critical | د خداوند ورځ | 1:7-10; 2:1-2; 2:8 | Collides simultaneously with the Islamic “Day of Judgment” (د قیامت ورځ) deeds-weighing framework and the Sunni “Return of Isa” (نزول عيسی) tradition, in which Jesus returns as a subordinate, non-divine prophet. خداوند (not a generic خدای) must be retained at every occurrence to preserve the Christological Lordship claim; “coming/parousia” (راتګ) must always be explicitly anchored to Christ’s own supreme Lordship. | Human theologian |
| 2 | The Man of Lawlessness | Critical | د بې قانونۍ سړی | 2:3-10 | Maps closely onto the widely-taught Sunni end-times figure al-Masih ad-Dajjal; must be explicitly compared/contrasted, never silently conflated. Internal compounding risks: “apostasy” must render بغاوت, never the capital-crime-associated ارتداد; “son of destruction” (د تباهۍ زوی) reuses the same زوی root as the Critical Sonship-of-Christ term and must be disambiguated at every occurrence; “temple of God” (د خدای معبد) touches the contested Temple Mount/al-Aqsa site and needs security-conscious framing; “the restrainer” (ایسارونکی/ایسارونکی شی) must preserve the Greek’s own impersonal-to-personal shift rather than presupposing one identification. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Perseverance under Persecution | High | د ځورونو کې زغم | 1:4-7; 3:2-5 | زغم overlaps positively with صبر (a major Islamic virtue) but Pauline ὑπομονή is specifically hope-anchored in Christ’s return, not fatalistic acceptance of qadar; must be taught explicitly against that default. Describes the readership’s present lived reality, not an abstract category — pastoral care required. | Human theologian |
| 4 | God’s Righteous Judgment | Critical | د خدای صادقه قضاوت | 1:5-9; 2:10-12 | Built on the established صداقت/صادق root for cross-curriculum consistency. “Vengeance” (غچ اخيستل) directly engages the Pashtunwali badal blood-revenge framework and must be taught strictly as God’s own sovereign judicial prerogative, never human warrant. “Working of delusion” (د تېروتنې ځواک, 2:11) states God himself sends the delusion, intersecting Islamic qadar doctrine; must be framed as righteous judicial response to prior rejection of truth, never as arbitrary divine authorship of evil. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Standing Firm in the Traditions | Critical | په لیږدل شویو تعلیماتو کې ټینګ ودریدل | 2:15; 3:6-15 | The single closest religious-vocabulary collision point in the curriculum. روایت (Hadith-transmission term) and دود (mere tribal custom) are both forbidden; periphrastic لیږدل شوی تعلیم is mandatory at every occurrence. The associated discipline instructions (3:6-15) must be taught as corrective/relational, never enmity or permanent shunning, given regional honor-shame dynamics. | Human theologian |
| 6 | Deity and Lordship of Christ | Critical | د مسیح الوهیت او خداوندي | 1:1,7,9,12; 2:1,8,14,16; 3:16,18 | 2:4’s man-of-lawlessness falsely claiming to be خدای sharpens by direct contrast Christ’s true, exclusive deity claims made throughout via خداوند. The triple title “our Lord Jesus Christ” and the distinctive “Lord of peace” (3:16, خداوند د سولې — never a generic خدای د سولې) must retain full Lordship force at every occurrence, rejecting the Sunni subordinate-prophet narrative. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Election / Effectual Calling | High | غوره کول او مؤثره بلنه | 2:13-14 | Reuses baseline غوره کول and بلل شوی exactly. Reinforce that election is God’s free redemptive choice unrelated to bloodline or tribal (qawm/khel) status — the Gentile Thessalonian readers had no Jewish lineage claim, a useful positive teaching example against lineage-based spiritual hierarchy. | Human theologian |
| 8 | Sanctification | High | تقدیس | 2:13 | Reuses تقدیس exactly (پاکوالی forbidden). Pairs تقدیس directly with روح القدس and رښتیا in the same verse; the Spirit’s true sanctifying activity must be sharply distinguished from the false/counterfeit πνεῦμα warned against at 2:2, so Paul is not misread as endorsing error via the Spirit. | Human theologian |
| 9 | Grace | High | فضل | 1:2,12; 2:16; 3:18 | Reuses فضل exactly. Pashtunwali melmastia reciprocity risk applies identically to Romans. 2:16-17’s “eternal comfort and good hope by grace” must be taught as God’s free gift underlying believers’ capacity to stand firm, not an achievement earning further favor. | Human theologian |
| 10 | Faith | High | ایمان | 1:3,4,11; 2:13; 3:2 | Reuses ایمان exactly. 2:11’s ironic “believe the lie” (درواغو ته ایمان راوړل) reuses the identical verb reserved for saving faith; must teach explicitly that faith’s object — not the mere act of believing — determines its saving or destructive value. | Human theologian |
| 11 | Gospel | High | انجیل | 1:8; 2:14; 3:1 | Reuses انجیل exactly, carrying the shared tahrif assumption forward. 1:8 pairs disobedience to the gospel directly with judgment vocabulary (غچ اخيستل, تلپاتې هلاکت); its salvation-determining weight must not be softened. 3:1’s prayer for the gospel’s spread inherits the baseline’s Critical evangelism-safety flag. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Faithfulness of God / Assurance | High | د خدای وفاداري | 3:3-5 | New doctrine for this book, closely related to the baseline’s Assurance of Salvation entry. Mainstream regional piety treats certainty of final security as presumptuous under a deeds-weighing framework; 3:3’s assurance must be grounded explicitly in God’s own faithful character (وفادار), not the believer’s performance. The ambiguous “evil one/evil” phrase (له بدۍ / له شیطان څخه) must be preserved, not resolved. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Church Discipline (Corrective, Not Punitive) | High | د کلیسا اصلاحي تادیب | 3:6-15 | New doctrine for this book. “Mark” and temporarily withdraw from (3:14) risks being read as permanent shunning/enmity or as badal-adjacent honor retaliation if not bounded by 3:15’s explicit qualification (“not as an enemy, but admonish as a brother”). Must be taught as restorative correction aimed at return to fellowship, consistent with the baseline’s honor-restoration framing of justification. | Human theologian |
| 14 | Church as God’s People | Critical | کلیسا د خدای د قوم په توګه | 1:1,4,10 | Reuses کلیسا exactly (امت forbidden). This letter’s own persecution context (1:4-7) directly confirms the baseline’s guidance to teach church as a dispersed, often secret, persecuted house-church community rather than a public building — the very situation the original Thessalonian readers faced. | Human theologian |
| 15 | Divine Calling | Medium | الهي بلنه | 1:11; 2:14 | Reuses بلنه exactly. Needs the direction of address (God calling a person, not human-initiated seeking) made explicit, consistent with the baseline’s everyday-invitation-vocabulary caution. | Native speaker review |
| 16 | Peace | Medium | سوله | 1:2; 3:16 | Reuses سوله exactly. “Lord of peace” (3:16) is a fitting closing benediction for a persecuted congregation; the sola/jirga peace-negotiation resonance is a genuine cultural asset, though its specific connection to God’s own settled peace (not mere absence of conflict) should still be made explicit. | Native speaker review |
| 17 | Prayer and Intercession | Medium | دعا او منځګړیتوب | 3:1-2 | Extends the baseline entry to mutual prayer for physical protection from active gospel opposition — directly relevant given the severe, real safety risks already flagged Critical in the baseline’s mission/evangelism doctrines for this readership. | Native speaker review |
| 18 | Kingdom Mission | Medium | د خدای پاچاهي | 1:5 | Reuses د خدای پاچاهي exactly, here tied directly to present suffering under persecution as evidence of God’s righteous judgment. Distinguish God’s spiritual reign from competing political-religious sovereignty claims in the region’s recent history, including explicit “Islamic Emirate” state framing. | Native speaker review |
| 19 | Power of God (True and Counterfeit) | Medium | د خدای قدرت | 1:7,11; 2:9 | Reuses د خدای قدرت exactly for true divine power (1:7,11), but the identical root δύναμις is used at 2:9 for the lawless one’s counterfeit power; context must clearly disambiguate true from satanic-counterfeit power at every occurrence so the two are never conflated. | Native speaker review |
| 20 | Thanksgiving | Low | شکر | 1:3; 2:13 | Reuses شکر exactly; broadly compatible, low risk. The added obligation-sense (“we ought to thank God,” ὀφείλομεν) is a minor nuance requiring no special caution. | Automated review |
Risk tier totals (must match doctrine_risk_registry.json): Critical = 6, High = 8, Medium = 5, Low = 1. Total doctrines = 20. Theologian review required = 14. Native speaker review = 5. Automated only = 1.
2. Chapter-by-Chapter Full-Book Coverage
2 Thessalonians Chapter 1 (vv. 1-12) — Reviewed in full
Section overview: Salutation, thanksgiving for the church’s growing faith and love under persecution, and the promise of God’s righteous judgment at Christ’s return.
| Verse(s) | Content | Doctrine(s) Active | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1:1-2 | Salutation: Paul, Silvanus, Timothy to the church of the Thessalonians; grace and peace | Church as God’s People (Critical); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical); Grace (High); Peace (Medium) | خدای پلار / خداوند عیسی مسیح triple formula establishes Trinitarian and Lordship framing from the letter’s opening line. |
| 1:3 | Thanksgiving obligation for growing faith and abounding love | Thanksgiving (Low); Faith (High) | “We ought to thank” (ὀφείλομεν) — obligation nuance, low independent risk. |
| 1:4 | Boasting about their steadfastness (ὑπομονή) and faith amid persecutions and afflictions | Perseverance under Persecution (High); Church as God’s People (Critical) | First occurrence of ὑπομονή/زغم and διωγμός/ځورونه; establishes the letter’s lived persecution context. |
| 1:5-6 | Evidence of God’s righteous judgment: suffering now, recompense for persecutors later | God’s Righteous Judgment (Critical); Kingdom Mission (Medium) | “Counted worthy of the kingdom of God” (v.5) ties present suffering directly to future vindication. |
| 1:7-8 | The Lord Jesus revealed from heaven with mighty angels, in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel | The Day of the Lord (Critical); God’s Righteous Judgment (Critical); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical); Power of God (Medium); Gospel (High) | First occurrence of ἀποκάλυψις (revealed) and ἐκδίκησις (vengeance/غچ اخيستل) — badal-adjacent risk flagged here for the first time in the book. |
| 1:9 | Eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and his glory | God’s Righteous Judgment (Critical); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical) | تلپاتې هلاکت (eternal destruction) introduced; severity must not be softened. |
| 1:10 | Christ glorified in his saints, marveled at among believers, at his coming | The Day of the Lord (Critical); Church as God’s People (Critical) | مقدسان (saints, reused from Romans baseline) applied corporately, not to an ascetic elite. |
| 1:11-12 | Prayer that God count them worthy of his calling, fulfill every resolve of faith by his power, that Christ’s name be glorified in them | Divine Calling (Medium); Faith (High); Power of God (Medium); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical); Grace (High) | “According to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ” closes the chapter with a joint Father-Son grace formula reinforcing deity claims. |
Chapter 1 coverage confirmation: Every verse (1:1-12) contributes load-bearing doctrinal content; no verse is silently omitted. All chapter-1 doctrines are represented in the Section 1 matrix above.
2 Thessalonians Chapter 2 (vv. 1-17) — Reviewed in full; contains the core passage (2:1-12)
Section overview: Correction of a false report that the Day of the Lord has already come; the sign of the man of lawlessness that must precede it; the certainty of the church’s election and call to stand firm.
| Verse(s) | Content | Doctrine(s) Active | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2:1-2 | Appeal not to be quickly shaken/alarmed by a claim (by spirit, word, or letter) that the Day of the Lord has come | The Day of the Lord (Critical) | παρουσία (راتګ) and ἐπισυναγωγή (راټولېدنه, gathering together) both introduced; rapture-sequencing questions must remain unresolved in translation. |
| 2:3 | Warning: that day will not come until the rebellion/apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction, is revealed | The Man of Lawlessness (Critical); The Day of the Lord (Critical) | ἀποστασία (بغاوت, never ارتداد) and ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας / υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας both introduced here — the chapter’s single highest-density risk verse. |
| 2:4 | He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, even sitting in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God | The Man of Lawlessness (Critical); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical) | ναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ (د خدای معبد) — security-conscious framing required given contemporary Temple Mount sensitivities; the false self-deification here sharpens the true deity claims made for Christ elsewhere in the letter. |
| 2:5-7 | Paul reminds them he told them this already; the restrainer/restraining thing currently holds back the mystery of lawlessness already at work | The Man of Lawlessness (Critical) | τὸ κατέχον / ὁ κατέχων (ایسارونکی شی / ایسارونکی) — the Greek’s impersonal-to-personal shift must be preserved, not resolved into one interpretive camp. μυστήριον (راز) also introduced. |
| 2:8 | Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the appearance of his coming | The Man of Lawlessness (Critical); The Day of the Lord (Critical); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical) | ἐπιφάνεια τῆς παρουσίας (ښکاره کیدنه) reinforces the fully public, visible nature of Christ’s return, directly countering any hidden/contested-return framing. |
| 2:9-10 | The lawless one’s coming is by Satan’s activity, with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth | The Man of Lawlessness (Critical); Power of God (Medium, counterfeit contrast); God’s Righteous Judgment (Critical) | σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ψεύδους (درواغجن نښې او عجایب) — genuine point of contact with regional jinn/sorcery belief; warn against real supernatural displays lacking a divine source. ἀπολλύμενοι (هلاکېدونکي) introduced. |
| 2:11-12 | God sends them a strong delusion so that they believe the lie, that all may be judged who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness | God’s Righteous Judgment (Critical); Faith (High) | ἐνέργεια πλάνης (د تېروتنې ځواک) and πιστεῦσαι τῷ ψεύδει (درواغو ته ایمان راوړل) — both require explicit framing as righteous judicial consequence of prior rejection of truth, not arbitrary divine causation of evil. |
| 2:13 | Thanksgiving that God chose them as firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth | Election / Effectual Calling (High); Sanctification (High); Thanksgiving (Low); Faith (High) | ἀπαρχή (لومړنۍ حاصلات, firstfruits) introduced; direct contrast with the false believing of v.11 — the object of faith, not the act, determines outcome. |
| 2:14 | God called them through the gospel to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ | Divine Calling (Medium); Gospel (High); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical) | “Obtain glory” (περιποίησις, ترلاسه کول) ties calling directly to Christ’s own glory. |
| 2:15 | Command to stand firm and hold to the traditions taught, whether by word or by letter | Standing Firm in the Traditions (Critical) | First occurrence of παράδοσις (لیږدل شوی تعلیم) — mandatory theologian review; روایت and دود both forbidden. |
| 2:16-17 | Prayer that the Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort and establish their hearts | Grace (High); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical) | ἀγάπη (مینه) — new to translation memory for this curriculum, requires explicit divine-love framing to avoid romantic-connotation drift. |
Chapter 2 coverage confirmation: Every verse of the core passage (2:1-12) and the remainder of the chapter (2:13-17) is accounted for and mapped to the doctrine matrix; no verse is silently omitted.
2 Thessalonians Chapter 3 (vv. 1-18) — Reviewed in full
Section overview: Request for prayer and protection, confidence in the Lord’s faithfulness, instruction on disciplined Christian living, church discipline for the disorderly, and closing benediction.
| Verse(s) | Content | Doctrine(s) Active | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3:1-2 | Request for prayer that the word of the Lord may spread and be honored, and for deliverance from wicked and evil men, since not all have faith | Prayer and Intercession (Medium); Gospel (High); Faith (High) | Inherits the baseline’s Critical evangelism-safety flag; “not all have faith” (Faith, High) is a sober, non-judgmental observation, not a claim about specific individuals’ eternal state. |
| 3:3-5 | The Lord is faithful; he will establish and guard you from the evil one; confidence that they are doing and will continue doing what is commanded; may the Lord direct hearts to God’s love and Christ’s steadfastness | Faithfulness of God / Assurance (High); Perseverance under Persecution (High) | πιστός of God (وفادار) distinct from ایمان; ambiguous τοῦ πονηροῦ (له بدۍ / له شیطان څخه) preserved rather than resolved. |
| 3:6 | Command, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother walking in idleness and not according to the tradition received | Standing Firm in the Traditions (Critical); Church Discipline (High); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical) | Second occurrence of παράδοσις (لیږدل شوی تعلیم); παραγγέλλω (امر کول) — apostolic command, not personal opinion. |
| 3:7-9 | Paul’s own example: he worked and did not eat anyone’s bread free of charge, though he had the right, in order to give a pattern to imitate | Church Discipline (High) | μιμέομαι (پیروي کول) — تقلید deliberately avoided due to Islamic legal-school (taqlid) connotation. |
| 3:10-12 | Command: if anyone is unwilling to work, let him not eat; some are walking in idleness, busybodies; command and encourage them to work quietly and earn their own living | Church Discipline (High); Standing Firm in the Traditions (Critical) | ἀτάκτως περιπατέω (بې نظمه ګرځېدل) and περιεργάζομαι (busybody) — church-discipline vocabulary distinct from the letter’s persecution vocabulary. |
| 3:13-15 | Do not grow weary in doing good; if anyone does not obey this letter’s instruction, mark him and do not associate with him, that he may be ashamed — yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother | Church Discipline (High); Standing Firm in the Traditions (Critical) | ἐντραπῇ (شرمېدل, restorative shame) and the explicit “not as an enemy… as a brother” qualifier are the decisive textual safeguard against badal-adjacent or honor-retaliatory misreadings; must never be separated from v.14 in teaching. |
| 3:16 | May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way; the Lord be with you all | Peace (Medium); Deity and Lordship of Christ (Critical) | خداوند د سولې — full Lordship title must be retained, not reduced to a generic خدای د سولې. |
| 3:17-18 | Paul’s own handwritten greeting as the authenticating mark in all his letters; closing grace benediction | Grace (High) | σημεῖον (نښه, authenticating sign) — same root as the counterfeit “signs” of 2:9 and the disciplinary “mark” of 3:14; disambiguate by context at every occurrence. |
Chapter 3 coverage confirmation: Every verse (3:1-18) is accounted for; the church-discipline material (3:6-15), though not itself one of the five core curriculum doctrines, is fully documented above (High risk, human theologian review) as required by the full-book-coverage mandate, and is cross-referenced to Standing Firm in the Traditions throughout.
3. Doctrine Interdependencies Requiring Coordinated Translation
The following interdependencies span more than one doctrine or chapter and require coordinated (not independently improvised) translation choices:
- خداوند consistency across Deity/Lordship, Day of the Lord, and Peace doctrines — the same exclusive-Lordship title must be used identically at 1:7-9, 2:1,8, 2:16, and 3:16 so that “the Lord,” “the day of the Lord,” and “the Lord of peace” are recognizable as the same Person throughout, reinforcing the letter’s cumulative deity argument against the Sunni subordinate-prophet return narrative.
- زوی (son) root disambiguation — د تباهۍ زوی (son of destruction, 2:3) must never be allowed to echo د خدای زوی (Son of God) in a reader’s mind; every occurrence requires an explicit note distinguishing the Semitic idiom of characterization/destiny from Christ’s unique divine Sonship.
- ایمان (faith) irony across 2:11-13 — the false “believing the lie” (2:11) and the true “belief in the truth” (2:13) occur three verses apart using the same root; translation must preserve this deliberate authorial juxtaposition rather than smoothing it into two unrelated words.
- غچ اخيستل (vengeance) and church discipline (3:6-15) must never cross-contaminate — God’s own righteous vengeance (1:8) is exclusively divine prerogative; the human, corrective, relational church discipline of chapter 3 must be kept doctrinally and lexically distinct from any human badal-retaliation reading.
- لیږدل شوی تعلیم (traditions) continuity from 2:15 to 3:6 — both occurrences must use the identical periphrastic phrase so learners recognize Paul is invoking the same authoritative body of apostolic teaching in both passages, not two different concepts.
- نښه (sign/mark) triple disambiguation — false “signs” (2:9, counterfeit), disciplinary “marking” (3:14, corrective), and Paul’s authenticating “sign” (3:17, epistolary) all share the same Pashto root and must be distinguished by context at every occurrence to avoid conflation.
4. Consistency Statement
This doctrine analysis contains exactly the twenty doctrines recorded in assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (v1), at the identical risk tiers, with identical review routing, and introduces no new doctrine, term, or risk-tier reassignment beyond what that registry and analysis/08_core_glossary.md already establish. It extends, and does not contradict, the baseline Romans Language Package. Full-book coverage — 2 Thessalonians 1:1 through 3:18 — is confirmed above with no chapter or verse range silently omitted.
Critical Risk Doctrines
The Day of the Lord
Pashto name: د خداوند ورځ
Key terms: day of the Lord, coming, parousia, gathering together, glorious appearing, revealed
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: collides with two distinct, well-developed Islamic frameworks simultaneously - the deeds-weighing ‘Day of Judgment’ (د قیامت ورځ) and the Sunni ‘Return of Isa’ (نزول عيسی) tradition, in which Jesus returns as a subordinate prophet who denies his own deity and eventually dies a natural death. The term must retain خداوند specifically (not a generic ‘د خدای ورځ’) to preserve the Christological Lordship claim, and every occurrence of ‘coming/parousia’ must be explicitly anchored to Christ’s supreme, undiminished Lordship.
The Man of Lawlessness
Pashto name: د بې قانونۍ سړی
Key terms: man of lawlessness, son of destruction, lawless one, lawlessness, temple of God, restrainer, false signs and wonders, apostasy
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: this figure maps closely onto the widely-taught Sunni end-times figure of al-Masih ad-Dajjal (the false messiah/deceiver defeated by the returning Isa); teaching must explicitly compare and contrast the two figures rather than silently conflate them. Compounding risks within this doctrine: ‘apostasy’ must render as بغاوت, never the loaded, capital-crime-associated ارتداد (Islamic apostasy-from-Islam); ‘son of destruction’ reuses the same زوی root as the Critical baseline term for Christ’s unique Sonship and must be explicitly disambiguated; ‘temple of God’ touches the highly sensitive, contested contemporary Temple Mount/al-Aqsa site and requires security-conscious framing.
God’s Righteous Judgment
Pashto name: د خدای صادقه قضاوت
Key terms: righteous judgment, vengeance, eternal destruction, working of delusion, believe the lie, unrighteousness, judged
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: built on the established صداقت/صادق root for cross-curriculum consistency; both Christian and Islamic traditions affirm divine justice as a shared positive resource, but judgment here is based on response to Christ and the truth, not a deeds-weighing mizan scale, and this distinguishing content must be taught explicitly. Two acute sub-risks converge: ‘vengeance’ (غچ اخيستل) directly engages the Pashtunwali badal blood-revenge framework already flagged Critical in the baseline and must be taught as God’s own sovereign judicial prerogative, never a warrant for human retaliation; ‘the working of delusion’ (2:11) states that God himself sends the delusion, intersecting sharply with Islamic qadar doctrine and requiring explicit framing as righteous judicial response to prior rejection of truth, not arbitrary divine authorship of evil.
Standing Firm in the Traditions
Pashto name: په لیږدل شویو تعلیماتو کې ټینګ ودریدل
Key terms: traditions, standing firm, apostolic command, walking disorderly, corrective shame, withdraw from
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: ‘traditions’ (παράδοσις) is arguably the single closest religious-vocabulary collision point in this entire curriculum. روایت (riwayat), the precise Islamic technical term for a transmitted Hadith report with its own isnad chain of narrators, must never be used, as it would wrongly suggest apostolic teaching is an equivalent parallel corpus to Hadith. دود (customary practice) must also be avoided as sole rendering, as it flattens authoritative apostolic teaching into mere Pashtunwali tribal custom - already a competing normative system documented in the baseline’s ‘law’ entry. The periphrastic لیږدل شوی تعلیم is required at every occurrence (2:15; 3:6). The associated church-discipline instructions (3:6-15) must be taught as corrective and relational, never as enmity or permanent exclusion, given the region’s strong honor-shame social dynamics.
Deity and Lordship of Christ
Pashto name: د مسیح الوهیت او خداوندي
Key terms: lord, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of peace, glory of Christ, obtain glory
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: this letter’s own man-of-lawlessness passage (2:4) depicts a creature falsely claiming to be خدای, sharpening by direct contrast the true, exclusive deity claims made for Christ throughout the letter via خداوند. Every occurrence of the triple title ‘our Lord Jesus Christ’ anchors the Day of the Lord doctrine’s rejection of the Sunni subordinate-prophet ‘Return of Isa’ narrative; the distinctive title ‘the Lord of peace’ (3:16) must retain خداوند intact rather than a generic ‘خدای د سولې’.
Church as God’s People
Pashto name: کلیسا د خدای د قوم په توګه
Key terms: church of the Thessalonians, brothers, saints
Review routing: Human theologian
Reuses کلیسا exactly from the Romans baseline; امت remains forbidden. This letter’s own persecution context (1:4-7) directly confirms and reinforces the baseline’s guidance to teach church as a dispersed, often secret, persecuted house-church community, not a public building - the very situation the original Thessalonian readers themselves faced under active hostility.
High Risk Doctrines
Perseverance under Persecution
Pashto name: د ځورونو کې زغم
Key terms: perseverance, endurance, persecution, affliction, God is faithful, deliver/rescue, the evil one
Review routing: Human theologian
زغم has genuine positive overlap with صبر (sabr), a major Islamic virtue especially prized under hardship and sometimes invoked in martyrdom contexts, but Pauline ὑπομονή is specifically hope-anchored endurance rooted in confidence in Christ’s return (1:5,7; 3:5), not fatalistic acceptance of qadar or stoic tolerance of suffering; this distinction must be taught explicitly. Given the severe, life-threatening safety risk already flagged Critical in the baseline’s mission/evangelism entries, this vocabulary describes lived, present-day reality for this readership, not an abstract category, and must be handled with corresponding pastoral care.
Election / Effectual Calling
Pashto name: غوره کول او مؤثره بلنه
Key terms: chosen, firstfruits, called, sanctification
Review routing: Human theologian
Reuses the baseline’s غوره کول (election, High) and بلل شوی (called, High). Reinforce the baseline’s caution that election is God’s free redemptive choice unrelated to tribal lineage or bloodline status, an especially relevant point since the Gentile Thessalonian readers had no Jewish bloodline claim of any kind - a useful positive teaching example against qawm/khel-based spiritual hierarchy.
Sanctification
Pashto name: تقدیس
Key terms: sanctification of the Spirit, belief of the truth
Review routing: Human theologian
Reuses تقدیس exactly from the Romans baseline; پاکوالی (ritual cleanliness) remains forbidden. This occurrence pairs تقدیس directly with روح القدس and رښتیا (truth) in a single verse, requiring the Spirit’s true sanctifying activity to be sharply distinguished from the false, possibly counterfeit πνεῦμα warned against earlier in the same letter (2:2), so that Paul is not read as saying the true Holy Spirit endorsed error.
Grace
Pashto name: فضل
Key terms: grace, eternal comfort, good hope
Review routing: Human theologian
Reuses فضل exactly from the Romans baseline. The Pashtunwali melmastia hospitality-reciprocity risk documented there applies identically here; 2:16-17’s ‘eternal comfort and good hope by grace’ must be taught as God’s own free gift underlying believers’ ability to stand firm, not an achievement earning further favor.
Faith
Pashto name: ایمان
Key terms: faith, believe, not all have faith, believe the lie
Review routing: Human theologian
Reuses ایمان exactly from the Romans baseline. 2:11’s ironic ‘believe the lie’ (درواغو ته ایمان راوړل) reuses the identical verb otherwise reserved for saving faith in Christ, requiring explicit teaching that faith’s object - not the mere act of believing - determines its saving or destructive value, a point not automatically obvious within a broader regional framework where sincere belief itself is often treated as sufficient religious merit.
Gospel
Pashto name: انجیل
Key terms: gospel, obedience to the gospel, spread of the gospel
Review routing: Human theologian
Reuses انجیل exactly from the Romans baseline, carrying forward the shared tahrif (corruption) assumption. 1:8 pairs disobedience to the gospel directly with eternal judgment vocabulary (غچ اخيستل, تلپاتې هلاکت), so the gospel’s authoritative, salvation-determining weight must not be softened into ‘a religious teaching among others.’ 3:1’s prayer for the gospel’s rapid spread inherits the baseline’s Critical safety-sensitivity flag for evangelism given the severe risk of open proclamation in this readership’s context.
Faithfulness of God / Assurance
Pashto name: د خدای وفاداري
Key terms: the Lord is faithful, will establish and guard you, the evil one
Review routing: Human theologian
New doctrine for this book, closely related to the baseline’s Assurance of Salvation entry. Mainstream Islamic piety treats certainty of one’s own final security as presumptuous given a deeds-weighing framework; 3:3’s confident assertion that God ‘will establish you and guard you’ must be taught deliberately against this default, grounded in God’s own faithful character (وفادار) rather than the believer’s own performance or perseverance under badal-adjacent revenge/enemy language, since the verse’s ambiguous ‘evil one/evil’ phrase should be preserved rather than resolved.
Church Discipline (Corrective, Not Punitive)
Pashto name: د کلیسا اصلاحي تادیب
Key terms: walking disorderly, withdraw from, corrective shame, not as an enemy but as a brother, apostolic command
Review routing: Human theologian
New doctrine for this book. Given the region’s strong honor-shame social dynamics already documented throughout the baseline package, this instruction to ‘mark’ and temporarily withdraw from a disorderly believer (3:14) risks being read either as permanent shunning/enmity or as tribal-honor retaliation (badal-adjacent) if not carefully bounded by 3:15’s explicit qualification (‘not as an enemy, but admonish as a brother’). Must be taught as restorative, relational correction aimed at return to fellowship, consistent with the baseline’s honor-restoration framing of justification.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Divine Calling
Pashto name: الهي بلنه
Key terms: calling, worthy of his calling, called through our gospel
Review routing: Native speaker review
Reuses بلنه exactly from the Romans baseline; needs the direction of address (God calling a person) made explicit, consistent with the baseline’s own note on this term’s everyday-invitation-vocabulary risk.
Peace
Pashto name: سوله
Key terms: grace and peace, the Lord of peace
Review routing: Native speaker review
Reuses سوله exactly from the Romans baseline. The ‘Lord of peace’ title (3:16) is a fitting closing benediction for a persecuted congregation; the baseline’s سوله jirga (peace-negotiation) resonance is a genuine cultural asset here, though the specific connection to God’s own settled peace (not merely absence of conflict) should still be made explicit.
Prayer and Intercession
Pashto name: دعا او منځګړیتوب
Key terms: pray for us, deliver us from wicked men, not all have faith
Review routing: Native speaker review
Extends the baseline’s Prayer and Intercession entry to a new context: mutual prayer for physical protection from active gospel opposition, directly relevant given the severe, real safety risks already flagged Critical in the baseline’s mission/evangelism doctrines for this specific readership.
Kingdom Mission
Pashto name: د خدای پاچاهي
Key terms: counted worthy of the kingdom of God
Review routing: Native speaker review
Reuses د خدای پاچاهي exactly from the Romans baseline; here tied directly to present suffering under persecution as evidence of God’s righteous judgment. Distinguish God’s spiritual reign from competing claims to political-religious sovereignty in the region’s recent history, including explicit ‘Islamic Emirate’ state framing, consistent with the baseline’s guidance.
Power of God (True and Counterfeit)
Pashto name: د خدای قدرت
Key terms: power of God, mighty angels, all power, signs and wonders of falsehood
Review routing: Native speaker review
Reuses د خدای قدرت exactly from the Romans baseline for true divine power (1:7,11), but the identical root δύναμις is also used at 2:9 for the lawless one’s counterfeit power; context must clearly disambiguate true from satanic-counterfeit power at each occurrence so the two are never conflated.
Low Risk Doctrines
Thanksgiving
Pashto name: شکر
Key terms: we ought to thank God, faith growing, love abounding
Review routing: Automated review
Reuses شکر exactly from the Romans baseline; شکر is also a major Islamic virtue, broadly compatible and low risk. Note the added obligation-sense (ὀφείλομεν, ‘we ought’) is a minor nuance requiring no special caution.
