Core Glossary
Core Glossary: Colossians — English → Pashto
This glossary extends translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json (Romans baseline) for the Colossians curriculum. Section A lists terms already fixed by the Romans baseline and reused exactly in Colossians. Section B lists new terms first required by Colossians, organized by chapter of first/primary occurrence, with full risk documentation. Section C lists the two Critical disambiguation rules unique to Colossians that govern otherwise-identical baseline terms.

Section B: New Terms Introduced by Colossians (Full Glossary)
| # | Term | Original (Greek) | Transliteration | Pashto Rendering | Pashto Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | image | εἰκών | eikōn | انځور | anzor | Critical | Supremacy/Deity of Christ; New Self | 1:15, 3:10 | Must never be read as an idol/depiction; taught as Christ’s exact ontological representation of God, and as the pattern for believers’ renewal (3:10). Consistency of rendering across both occurrences is mandatory. |
| 2 | firstborn | πρωτότοκος | prōtotokos | لومړی زوی (always with “لومړیتوب/preeminence” gloss) | lumaRay zoy | Critical | Supremacy of Christ over Creation | 1:15, 1:18 | Never render as implying Christ is a created being; means rank/preeminence, not chronological origin. |
| 3 | creation / created | κτίσις / κτίζω | ktisis / ktizō | پیدایښت / پیدا کول | paidayesht / paida kawul | Medium | Supremacy over Creation | 1:15, 1:16, 1:23 | Passive verb form must be paired with “by/through him” to avoid implying Christ himself was created. |
| 4 | thrones, dominions, rulers, authorities | θρόνοι, κυριότητες, ἀρχαί, ἐξουσίαι | thronoi, kyriotētes, archai, exousiai | تختونه، واکمنۍ، واکمنان، اختیارات | takhtoona, wakmanai, wakmanan, ikhtiyarat | High | Supremacy over Creation; spiritual powers | 1:16, 2:10, 2:15 | Collides with folk-Islamic jinn/evil-eye belief; teach as powers subordinate to and defeated by Christ, not forces to fear or appease. |
| 5 | hold together | συνέστηκεν | synestēken | ثبات لري (all things “have their stability” in him) | sabat lari | Medium | Providence | 1:17 | Ties to baseline providence entry; distinguish from folk qadar fatalism. |
| 6 | head | κεφαλή | kephalē | سر | sar | High | Christ as Head of Church; Household Codes | 1:18, 2:10, 2:19 | Same word underlies husband-headship in household code (ch. 3); must always be taught with self-giving, cross-shaped content, guarding against reinforcing raw patriarchal authority. |
| 7 | body (of Christ, the church) | σῶμα | sōma | بدن | badan | Medium (Critical when combined with ecclesiology per baseline) | Christ as Head of Church | 1:18, 1:24, 2:17, 2:19, 3:15 | Never rendered as mere organization/association. |
| 8 | beginning | ἀρχή | archē | پیل | pil | Low | Supremacy of Christ | 1:18 | Straightforward. |
| 9 | preeminent | πρωτεύων | prōteuōn | لومړیتوب لرونکی | lumaRitob larunkay | High | Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ | 1:18 | Summary term for the whole Sufficiency-of-Christ doctrine; never softened to merely “important” or “great.” |
| 10 | fullness | πλήρωμα | plērōma | بشپړتیا | bashpaRtia | Critical | Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily | 1:19, 2:9 | Must convey totality/completeness of deity, not a share or portion; consistent rendering required at both occurrences. |
| 11 | bodily | σωματικῶς | sōmatikōs | په بدني ډول | pa badani DoL | Critical | Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily; Incarnation | 2:9 | Asserts real physical embodiment of full deity; guards against docetic-adjacent or Quranic-denial-adjacent softening. |
| 12 | reconcile | ἀποκαταλλάσσω | apokatallaxai | پخلاینه کول | pakhlaina kawul | Critical | Reconciliation through the Cross | 1:20, 1:22 | Native Pashtunwali reconciliation word; must be taught as God’s sovereign unilateral initiative, not a negotiated settlement between equals (parallel caution to covenant/تړون and نانواتی). |
| 13 | making peace | εἰρηνοποιήσας | eirēnopoiēsas | سوله راوستل (built on baseline سوله) | sola rawustal | High | Reconciliation through the Cross | 1:20 | Makes explicit that peace with God cost blood, closing the gap the baseline flags in سوله’s general resonance. |
| 14 | mystery | μυστήριον | mystērion | راز | raz | High | Warning against False Teaching/Syncretism; central Colossians theme | 1:26, 1:27, 2:2, 4:3 | Must always pair with “now revealed” language to prevent a Sufi-esoteric-secrecy misreading, since Sufi devotional tradition uses “raz” for ongoing hidden truth, the opposite of Paul’s “now disclosed” sense. |
| 15 | philosophy | φιλοσοφία | philosophia | فلسفه | falsafa | Medium | False Teaching Warning | 2:8 | Must be qualified “empty/deceptive” so as not to condemn philosophical/academic thought generally. |
| 16 | empty deceit | κενῆς ἀπάτης | kenēs apatēs | خالي دوکه | khali dhoka | Low | False Teaching Warning | 2:8 | Qualifies “philosophy.” |
| 17 | human tradition | παράδοσις τῶν ἀνθρώπων | paradosis tōn anthrōpōn | د انسان دود دستور | da insan dod dastur | High | False Teaching/Syncretism Warning | 2:8 | Care needed not to be read (or weaponized) as a blanket attack on the category of tradition generally, given hadith/sunnah’s high authority in the surrounding culture; this is a critique of a specific syncretistic local teaching. |
| 18 | elemental spirits / basic principles of the world | τὰ στοιχεῖα τοῦ κόσμου | ta stoicheia tou kosmou | د دنیا ابتدايي اصول/قوتونه | da dunya ibtidai usul/qowatoona | High | False Teaching/Syncretism Warning | 2:8, 2:20 | Genuinely ambiguous term; intersects with folk-Islamic amulet/astrology/evil-eye practice. Teach with 1:16/2:15 (Christ’s supremacy and triumph over all such powers). |
| 19 | circumcision | περιτομή | peritomē | ختنه (NEVER سنت) | khatna | High | Union with Christ; covenant marker | 2:11, 3:11, 4:11 | سنت carries Islamic normative-Sunnah connotation and would wrongly cast this as polemic against the physical practice; ختنه keeps it neutral/descriptive. Doctrinal point: union with Christ, not any physical rite, marks covenant belonging. |
| 20 | baptism | βάπτισμα | baptisma | تعمید | Ta’mid | Critical | Union with Christ (Died and Raised With Him) | 2:12 | Established regional Christian loanword (Persian/Urdu tradition); must be sharply distinguished from Islamic ghusl/wudu ritual washing — a one-time participatory union with Christ’s death/resurrection, not repeatable ceremonial purification. |
| 21 | buried with him / raised with him | συνθάπτω / συνεγείρω | syntaphentes / synēgerthēte | ورسره ښخ شوی / ورسره بیا راژوندی شوی | warsara khakh shaway / warsara bya rajwandi shaway | Critical | Union with Christ (Died and Raised With Him) | 2:12, 2:20, 3:1, 3:3 | Presupposes and is inseparable from Christ’s own historical resurrection (baseline Critical doctrine); must not be taught in isolation from that historical grounding. |
| 22 | handwriting / certificate of debt | τὸ χειρόγραφον | to cheirographon | زموږ د پور لیک | zamung da por leek | Medium/High | Reconciliation through the Cross | 2:14 | Legal-financial metaphor for a canceled debt; not to be confused with literal handwriting of any commandment set. |
| 23 | decrees / regulations | δόγμασιν | dogmasin | مقررات (NEVER احکام) | muqarrarat | High | False Teaching Warning; distinct from νόμος/ناموس | 2:14, 2:20 | Lexically distinct Greek word from νόμος (already fixed as ناموس in baseline); احکام would wrongly cast this as a polemic against Islamic shari’a rulings specifically. |
| 24 | disarmed and triumphed over | ἀπεκδυσάμενος… θριαμβεύσας | apekdysamenos… thriambeusas | واکونه یې وار خلاص کړل، بریالۍ فتحه یې ولمانځه | wakoona ye war khlas kral, biryali fatha ye lamancha | High | Christ’s Victory over Powers; Reconciliation | 2:15 | Positive apologetic resource against folk-Islamic fear of jinn/evil-eye; teach as an already-accomplished, total, public victory — guard against syncretistic “spiritual warfare” appeasement practices. |
| 25 | shadow / substance | σκιά / σῶμα | skia / sōma | سیوری / حقیقت | siwaray / haqiqat | Medium | False Teaching Warning | 2:17 | Shadow is a positive anticipatory pointer, not something false. |
| 26 | worship of angels | θρησκεία τῶν ἀγγέλων | thrēskeia tōn angelōn | د پرښتو عبادت | da pareshto ebadat | High | Syncretism Warning | 2:18 | Islamic angelology (Jibril, Mika’il) is prominent; teach as warning against wrongly directed devotion, not denial that angels exist. |
| 27 | self-made religion / severity to the body | ἐθελοθρησκίᾳ / ἀφειδίᾳ σώματος | ethelothrēskia / apheidia sōmatos | ځان جوړه شوی عبادت / بدن ته سختوالی | zan jorRah shaway ebadat / badan ta sakhtwali | Medium/High | Syncretism/Asceticism Warning | 2:18, 2:23 | Parallels regional Sufi ascetic self-mortification (already flagged in baseline “Separation unto God’s Service,” High risk). |
| 28 | humility (dual usage — vice vs. virtue) | ταπεινοφροσύνη | tapeinophrosynē | ځان ټیټول (false, 2:18/2:23) vs. عاجزي (true, 3:12) | zan tiTawul / ajezi | Critical | Syncretism Warning vs. New Self virtue | 2:18, 2:23, 3:12 | Same Greek word functions as vice in one context, virtue in another; context-dependent rendering is mandatory — flag every occurrence for review. |
| 29 | put off / put on | ἀποθέσθαι / ἐνδύσασθε | apothesthai / endysasthe | لرې کول / اغوستل | lare kawul / aghustal | High | Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New | 3:8, 3:9, 3:10, 3:12 | Genuine cultural asset (Pashtun dress-and-honor culture makes the metaphor vivid); ensure it is understood as Spirit-empowered inward transformation, not mere external/social performance. |
| 30 | old self | ὁ παλαιὸς ἄνθρωπος | ho palaios anthrōpos | زوړ انسان | zoR insan | High | Old Self / Christian Identity in Christ | 3:9 | A decisively-ended past identity, not an ongoing internal struggle (distinguish from Romans 7’s different question). |
| 31 | new self | ὁ νέος ἄνθρωπος | ho neos anthrōpos | نوی انسان | nuway insan | High | New Self | 3:10 | An identity to be actively “put on,” patterned after the “image of the Creator” (see term 1). |
| 32 | idolatry (of covetousness) | εἰδωλολατρία | eidōlolatria | د بتانو عبادت | da butano ebadat | High | Old Self vice list | 3:5 | Metaphorical extension of idolatry to covetousness; guard against readers concluding it addresses only literal idol-worship, missing the convicting extension to inward greed. |
| 33 | compassionate hearts (bowels of mercy) | σπλάγχνα οἰκτιρμοῦ | splanchna oiktirmou | د زړه رحم | da zRah raham | Low | New Self virtues | 3:12 | Idiom; do not translate literally (body-part idiom rule per baseline). |
| 34 | forgive as the Lord forgave | χαριζόμενοι… καθὼς ὁ κύριος ἐχαρίσατο | charizomenoi… kathōs ho kyrios echarisato | بښنه کول | bakhna kawul | Medium/High | New Self ethic; Reconciliation | 3:13 | Distinguish from نانواتی’s formal ritual-submission reconciliation; this is an ongoing, everyday, grace-grounded posture. |
| 35 | bond of perfection | σύνδεσμος τῆς τελειότητος | syndesmos tēs teleiotētos | د بشپړتیا تړی (NEVER تړون) | da bashpaRtia tarray | Medium | New Self unity | 3:14 | Deliberately distinct word from baseline’s fixed تړون (covenant) to avoid doctrinal confusion between an ethical-relational metaphor and the covenant category. |
| 36 | peace of Christ rule/arbiter | ἡ εἰρήνη τοῦ Χριστοῦ βραβευέτω | hē eirēnē tou Christou brabeuetō | د مسیح سوله دې پرېکړه کوونکې وي (built on باseline سوله) | da masih sola de prekRa kawunke wi | Medium | Peace with God extended to community | 3:15 | Athletic/legal “umpire” metaphor; extends baseline سوله resonance into communal ethics. |
| 37 | word of Christ dwell richly | ὁ λόγος τοῦ Χριστοῦ | ho logos tou Christou | د مسیح خبرې (preferred over کلام in this context) | da masih khabare | High | Teaching authority; Scripture | 3:16 | کلام collides with Quranic revelation category (Kalam Allah) and Islamic kalam theology; خبرې/پیغام is safer for Christ’s own message dwelling in the community here, distinct from a technical Logos-Christology claim. Flag for translator consistency decision. |
| 38 | psalms, hymns, spiritual songs | ψαλμοῖς, ὕμνοις, ᾠδαῖς πνευματικαῖς | psalmois, hymnois, ōdais pneumatikais | زبورونه، سندرې، روحاني سندرې | zaburoona, sandre, rohani sandre | Low | Corporate worship | 3:16 | Draws on established زبور (Psalms) and روحاني (spiritual) baseline vocabulary. |
| 39 | submit | ὑποτάσσεσθε | hypotassesthe | غاړه ایښودل | ghaRa ekhodal | High | Household Codes | 3:18 | Must always be paired with the husband’s counterbalancing sacrificial-love command; never taught as a stand-alone command reinforcing existing patriarchal authority. |

| 44 | bondservants/slaves, obey | οἱ δοῦλοι, ὑπακούετε | hoi douloi, hypakouete | غلامان، اطاعت کوئ | ghulaman, ita’at kawai | High | Household Codes | 3:22 | Requires explicit historical/pastoral framing; never taught as timeless endorsement of slavery; pair with 4:1’s constraint on masters. |
| 45 | masters (human sense of κύριος) | οἱ κύριοι | hoi kyrioi | مالک (NEVER خداوند) | malik | Critical | Household Codes; Lordship disambiguation | 3:22, 4:1 (human sense) | See Section C. Uses the baseline’s own REJECTED alternative for “Lord” specifically because it is the correct word for a human master, protecting خداوند’s exclusive reservation for Christ. |
| 46 | you have a Master in heaven (divine sense of κύριος) | ἔχετε κύριον ἐν οὐρανῷ | echete kyrion en ouranō | خداوند (baseline, exclusive) | Khudawand | Critical | Lordship of Christ; household code climax | 4:1 (divine sense) | Same verse-pair as term 45 switches sense; translator must track which κύριος sense is active clause-by-clause. See Section C. |
| 47 | inheritance | κληρονομία | klēronomia | میراث | miras | High | Adoption into God’s Family | 3:24 | Ties to baseline’s Critical Adoption doctrine and its note on Pashtun patrilineal tribal inheritance customs; God’s household economy credits even a slave with full inheritance. |
| 48 | redemption | ἀπολύτρωσις | apolytrōsis | خلاصون (NEVER فدیه) | khlasoon | High | Reconciliation/Salvation-adjacent | 1:14 | فدیه carries a narrow Islamic legal-exemption-payment connotation (e.g., fasting fidya); خلاصون preserves the personal-deliverance-from-bondage sense. |
| 49 | forgiveness of sins | ἄφεσις τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν | aphesis tōn hamartiōn | د ګناهانو بښنه | da gunahano bakhna | Medium | Reconciliation | 1:14 | Full, immediate pardon, not a favorable balance on a future deeds-weighing scale. |
| 50 | domain of darkness | ἡ ἐξουσία τοῦ σκότους | hē exousia tou skotous | د تیارې واک | da tyaray wak | Medium | Kingdom transfer | 1:13 | Not an equal, competing dualistic power — already subordinate to and defeated by Christ (cf. 1:16, 2:15). |
| 51 | filling up Christ’s afflictions | ἀνταναπληρῶ τὰ ὑστερήματα τῶν θλίψεων τοῦ Χριστοῦ | antanaplērō ta hysterēmata tōn thlipseōn tou Christou | زه د مسیح هغه تکلیفونه بشپړوم چې د هغه د بدن لپاره پاتې دي | za da masih hagha takleefoona bashpaRawom che da hagha da badan lapara pate di | Critical | Sufficiency of Christ (must not be undermined) | 1:24 | Must never be read as implying Christ’s atoning suffering was deficient; refers to Paul’s own apostolic sufferings on behalf of Christ’s body, the church. Mandatory theologian review with footnote at every use. |
| 52 | wisdom | σοφία | sophia | حکمت | hikmat | Medium | General ethical teaching | 1:9, 1:28, 3:16, 4:5 | Broadly compatible shared virtue term (like شکر); must be anchored to Christ specifically (1:28), not left generic. |
| 53 | stewardship | οἰκονομία | oikonomia | الهی دنده | elahi dandah | Medium | Apostleship/ministry | 1:25 | A divinely entrusted commission, not a self-chosen career. |
| 54 | treasures of wisdom and knowledge | θησαυροὶ τῆς σοφίας καὶ γνώσεως | thēsauroi tēs sophias kai gnōseōs | د حکمت او پوهې خزانې | da hikmat aw pohe khazane | High | False Teaching Warning | 2:3 | Rules out any need for supplementary “higher knowledge” beyond Christ; relevant to proto-gnostic and regional syncretistic secret-knowledge claims alike. |
| 55 | walk in wisdom toward outsiders | ἐν σοφίᾳ περιπατεῖτε πρὸς τοὺς ἔξω | en sophia peripateite pros tous exō | له بهرنیانو سره په حکمت چلند وکړئ | le bahranyano sara pa hikmat chaland wakRai | Medium (elevated by safety context) | Practical Christian conduct | 4:5 | Directly relevant to the destination readership’s need for prudent, cautious public conduct given persecution risk. |
| 56 | open door for the word / mystery of Christ | θύραν τοῦ λόγου / τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ Χριστοῦ | thyran tou logou / to mystērion tou Christou | د پیغام لپاره دروازه / د مسیح راز | da paigham lapara drwaza / da masih raz | Critical | Mission to the Nations; Evangelism | 4:3 | Compounds راز’s High risk with the baseline’s Critical Mission/Evangelism safety rating; handle with acute pastoral sensitivity given real danger to evangelists/converts. |
Section C: Colossians-Specific Critical Disambiguation Rules
These two rules govern terms that are lexically identical in Greek but must receive DIFFERENT Pashto renderings depending on referent, to protect the integrity of baseline Critical terms.
Rule 1 — κύριος (kyrios) in the Household Code (Colossians 3:22–4:1)
The same Greek word κύριος is used by Paul in a deliberate wordplay: once for a human household “master” (3:22, 4:1a) and once for God/Christ as heavenly “Master/Lord” (4:1b). The baseline reserves خداوند exclusively and absolutely for the supreme, exclusive Lordship of Christ/God (Critical, per Romans 10:9). To protect that reservation:
- Human household master (κύριος = owner/master, 3:22, 4:1a): render مالک (malik) — the very alternative the baseline’s “lord” entry explicitly rejected for Christ, precisely because its transactional, this-worldly sense is now the CORRECT choice for a human slave-owner.
- Heavenly Master/Lord (κύριος = God/Christ, 4:1b): render خداوند (Khudawand), per baseline, without exception.
Failure to apply this rule in either direction is a Critical-severity translation error: using خداوند for a human slave-master dilutes Christ’s unique Lordship claim; using مالک for God in 4:1b would undershoot the deity claim the baseline was written to protect.
Rule 2 — ταπεινοφροσύνη (tapeinophrosynē) as Vice (2:18, 2:23) versus Virtue (3:12)
The same Greek word for “humility” functions as a criticized false asceticism/self-abasement in the false-teaching warning of chapter 2, and as a genuine Spirit-produced virtue in the “new self” list of chapter 3.
- False/self-imposed sense (2:18, 2:23): render ځان ټیټول (zan tiTawul — self-lowering/self-abasement).
- True virtue sense (3:12): render عاجزي (ajezi — humility).
Rendering both occurrences identically risks either condemning true Christian humility as a vice, or endorsing the false ascetic self-abasement Paul is warning against as a virtue. Every occurrence must be flagged for review to confirm the correct sense is active.
Risk Summary for Colossians New Terms (Section B)

Plus the 2 Section C disambiguation rules, both Critical, requiring mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence of the governing verses (3:22-4:1 and 2:18/2:23/3:12 respectively).
Critical Risk Terms
Adoption
Approved rendering: زوی نیول
Transliteration: zoy neyol
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: υἱοθεσία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies Colossians 1:12-14’s ‘inheritance of the saints’ and 3:24’s ‘inheritance from the Lord’; guard against reduced-status readings against Pashtun patrilineal inheritance custom.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: بیا راژوندي کیدل
Transliteration: bya rajwandi kedal
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Original: ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:18 (‘firstborn from the dead’), 2:12, 3:1 depend on this historical event; must directly counter the Quran’s crucifixion-denial (4:157).
Lord
Approved rendering: خداوند
Transliteration: Khudawand
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: مالک
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Reserved EXCLUSIVELY for the divine sense in Colossians (1:3, 1:10, 2:6, 3:17, 3:23-24, 4:1b). CRITICAL Colossians-specific extension: NEVER use for the human household master in 3:22/4:1a — use مالک there instead (see masters_human_sense / master_in_heaven_divine_sense below).
Son Of God
Approved rendering: د خدای زوی
Transliteration: da Khudai zoy
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Original: υἱὸς θεοῦ / ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀγάπης αὐτοῦ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:13 (‘kingdom of his beloved Son’) and the Christ-hymn (1:15) depend on this identity; must not read as metaphorical, adoptive, or honorary sonship.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: تجسد
Transliteration: tajassud
Doctrine: Incarnation
Original: θεολογικά κατηγορία, πρβλ. σωματικῶς (2:9)
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Conceptual anchor for Colossians 1:19, 1:22, 2:9’s ‘fullness of deity dwells bodily’; Colossians provides the sharpest textual basis for this doctrine outside John 1:14. Use with a periphrastic gloss (‘God became a man, in a body’) given Pashto’s thin settled precedent.
Church
Approved rendering: کلیسا
Transliteration: kalisa
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: امت
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:18, 1:24, 4:15, 4:16 use this both universally (Christ’s body) and locally (house churches at Laodicea, Nympha’s house); NEVER امت. Teach with a dispersed, often secret, house-church community in view.
Law
Approved rendering: ناموس
Transliteration: namus
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: شریعت
Original: νόμος (not directly used in Colossians; contrast with δόγμα, 2:14, 2:20)
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Not directly used in Colossians itself (Paul uses the lexically distinct δόγμα/‘decrees’ at 2:14, 2:20); retained here specifically to flag that translators must NOT merge δόγμα into ناموس, which would blur Colossians’ narrower argument.
Messiah
Approved rendering: مسیح
Transliteration: Masih
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout Colossians as virtually Christ’s proper name; every occurrence must actively assert Christ’s unique redemptive sufficiency.
Jesus
Approved rendering: عیسی
Transliteration: Isa
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout Colossians; the Quranic prophet-only, non-divine, non-crucified narrative attached to this name must be actively corrected at every occurrence.
God
Approved rendering: خدای
Transliteration: Khudai
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: الله
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:15’s ‘image of the invisible God’ and 1:19/2:9’s ‘fullness of deity’ place unusually heavy Christological weight on this word within a single letter; strict tawhid theology must be distinguished from the Trinitarian referent at every such occurrence.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: روح القدس
Transliteration: Rooh-ul-Qudus
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: πνεῦμα (cf. 1:8, ‘love in the Spirit’)
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians’ single explicit Spirit-reference (1:8, ‘love in the Spirit’) still carries the identical-Quranic-phrase risk (identification with the angel Jibril); must be made explicit even in this brief mention.
Father
Approved rendering: پلار
Transliteration: plar
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:2, 1:3, 1:12, 3:17 use this term in relational, thanksgiving-saturated contexts; counterbalance the stern-authority connotation of پلار in Pashtun patriarchal culture with relational warmth.
Imputed Righteousness
Approved rendering: محسوبه شوی صداقت
Transliteration: mahsuba shway sadaqat
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: لاسته راوړی صداقت
Original: concept only; cf. forgiveness/cancellation language, 2:13-14
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Conceptual background for Colossians 2:13-14’s forgiveness and debt-cancellation language; the forbidden-substitution caution against ‘earned righteousness’ applies wherever this concept underlies a Colossians passage.
Image
Approved rendering: انځور
Transliteration: anzor
Doctrine: Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
Original: εἰκών
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:15, 3:10. Never read as an idol/depiction; taught paired with 1:19/2:9 (fullness of deity) as Christ’s exact ontological representation of God, and reused consistently at 3:10 for the believer’s renewal ‘in the image of the Creator.‘
Firstborn
Approved rendering: لومړی زوی
Transliteration: lumaRay zoy
Doctrine: Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
Rejected alternatives: پیدا شوی
Original: πρωτότοκος
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:15, 1:18. Denotes rank/preeminence (cf. LXX Ps 89:27), never chronological first-created origin. NEVER stand alone without the accompanying gloss ‘holding preeminence and rulership’ and pairing with ‘before all things’ (1:17).
Before All Things
Approved rendering: له ټولو شیانو دمخه
Transliteration: la Tolo shyano dmakha
Doctrine: Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
Original: πρὸ πάντων
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:17. The interpretive key ruling out any Arian/Quranic misreading of ‘firstborn’ as ‘first created’; must be taught together with firstborn, never introduced separately.
Created
Approved rendering: پیدا شوي دي
Transliteration: paida shwi di
Doctrine: Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
Original: κτίζω (ἐκτίσθη)
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:16. Passive verb must always be grammatically paired with ‘by/through him’ (د هغه له لارې) so the sentence cannot be misheard as implying Christ himself was created.
Through Him And For Him
Approved rendering: د هغه له لارې او د هغه لپاره
Transliteration: da haghah la larey aw da haghah lapara
Doctrine: Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
Original: δι’ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰς αὐτόν
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:16. The ‘for him’ purpose clause applies to Christ language elsewhere reserved for God alone (cf. Romans 11:36); must never be softened to a merely instrumental sense.
Fullness
Approved rendering: بشپړتیا
Transliteration: bashpaRtia
Doctrine: Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:19, 2:9. Must communicate totality/completeness, never a share or portion, of God’s nature; render identically at both occurrences and always with a periphrastic gloss at first use.
Was Pleased To Dwell
Approved rendering: په خوښۍ سره اوسیدل غوره کړل
Transliteration: pa khwakhai sara osedal ghwara kral
Doctrine: Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily
Original: εὐδόκησεν κατοικῆσαι
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:19. Must be distinguished from a term implying temporary visitation or momentary inspiration (closer to the Islamic account of revelation descending on a prophet); claims permanent ontological union of deity with Christ.
Bodily
Approved rendering: په بدني ډول
Transliteration: pa badani DoL
Doctrine: Fullness of Deity in Christ Bodily
Original: σωματικῶς
Category: Christology
Colossians 2:9. Asserts real physical embodiment of full deity; guards against docetic-adjacent or Quranic-denial-adjacent softening.
Reconcile
Approved rendering: پخلاینه کول
Transliteration: pakhlaina kawul
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Original: ἀποκαταλλάσσω
Category: Salvation
Colossians 1:20, 1:22. پخلاینه is Pashtunwali’s own feud-ending word, normally negotiated BETWEEN roughly equal parties via a mediating jirga; biblical reconciliation must be taught as God’s sovereign, unilateral, gracious initiative, never a negotiated settlement of equals — same caution as تړون and نانواتی.
Blood Of His Cross
Approved rendering: د هغه د صلیب وینه
Transliteration: da hagha da saleeb weena
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Original: τὸ αἷμα τοῦ σταυροῦ αὐτοῦ
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:20. Directly collides with the Quran’s denial of the crucifixion (4:157); teach with oral-apologetic care establishing historicity before theological meaning.
Baptism
Approved rendering: تعمید
Transliteration: Ta’mid
Doctrine: Baptism as Participation in Christ’s Death and Resurrection
Rejected alternatives: غسل, وضو
Original: βάπτισμα
Category: Sanctification
Colossians 2:12. Established regional Christian loanword (Persian/Urdu Bible tradition). Must be sharply distinguished from Islamic ritual washing (غسل/وضو), a repeatable ceremonial-purity act; this is a ONE-TIME participatory union with Christ’s death and resurrection.
Buried And Raised With Him
Approved rendering: ورسره ښخ شوی، ورسره بیا راژوندی شوی
Transliteration: warsara khakh shaway, warsara bya rajwandi shaway
Doctrine: Union with Christ (Died and Raised With Him)
Original: συνθάπτω / συνεγείρω
Category: Sanctification
Colossians 2:12, 2:20, 3:1, 3:3. Presupposes and is inseparable from Christ’s own historical resurrection; must never be taught in isolation from that historical grounding, given the shared Quranic crucifixion-denial risk.
False Humility
Approved rendering: ځان ټیټول
Transliteration: zan tiTawul
Doctrine: Warning against Asceticism and False Humility
Original: ταπεινοφροσύνη (vice sense, 2:18, 2:23)
Category: Church
Colossians 2:18, 2:23. The vice sense of ταπεινοφροσύνη — self-imposed, ascetic self-abasement bound up with angel-worship. The SAME Greek word functions as a genuine virtue at 3:12 (see true_humility); rendering both identically risks endorsing this false asceticism as a virtue. Flag every occurrence for context review.
True Humility
Approved rendering: عاجزي
Transliteration: ajezi
Doctrine: Warning against Asceticism and False Humility
Original: ταπεινοφροσύνη (virtue sense, 3:12)
Category: Sanctification
Colossians 3:12. The virtue sense of ταπεινοφροσύνη, part of the new-self list. Rendering identically to the vice sense (2:18, 2:23) risks condemning genuine Christian humility as a vice. Flag every occurrence for context review.
Masters Human Sense
Approved rendering: مالک
Transliteration: malik
Doctrine: Household Codes
Rejected alternatives: خداوند
Original: οἱ κύριοι (human sense, 3:22, 4:1a)
Category: Church
Colossians 3:22, 4:1a. The human household master/owner sense of κύριος. Deliberately uses مالک — the very word the baseline’s ‘lord’ entry rejected for Christ — precisely BECAUSE its transactional sense is correct here for a human slave-owner. NEVER خداوند in this sense, or Christ’s unique Lordship claim is diluted.
Master In Heaven Divine Sense
Approved rendering: خداوند
Transliteration: Khudawand
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: مالک
Original: κύριον ἐν οὐρανῷ (4:1b)
Category: Christology
Colossians 4:1b. The divine sense of κύριος completing Paul’s wordplay. MUST use the baseline’s exclusively-reserved خداوند; translators must track which sense of κύριος is active clause-by-clause across 3:22-4:1, the sharpest test case in the letter for this rule.
Filling Up Christs Afflictions
Approved rendering: زه د مسیح هغه تکلیفونه بشپړوم چې د هغه د بدن لپاره پاتې دي
Transliteration: za da masih hagha takleefoona bashpaRawom che da hagha da badan lapara pate di
Doctrine: Sufficiency of Christ’s Atoning Suffering
Original: ἀνταναπληρῶ τὰ ὑστερήματα τῶν θλίψεων τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:24. The single most theologically dangerous verse in the letter to mistranslate: refers to Paul’s own apostolic sufferings for the church, NOT a deficiency in Christ’s own atoning cross-work (1:19-20, 2:9-10). Mandatory theologian review with explanatory footnote at every occurrence.
Open Door For The Word
Approved rendering: د پیغام لپاره دروازه
Transliteration: da paigham lapara drwaza
Doctrine: Mission and Evangelism under Persecution
Original: θύραν τοῦ λόγου
Category: Church
Colossians 4:3. Tied to the baseline’s existing Critical Mission/Evangelism rating, given the severe, potentially life-threatening legal and social risk of open gospel proclamation in much of the Pashto-speaking world.
Mystery Of Christ In Chains
Approved rendering: د مسیح راز، چې د هغه له امله زه بند یم
Transliteration: da masih raz, che da hagha la amla za band yam
Doctrine: Mission and Evangelism under Persecution
Original: τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ Χριστοῦ, δι’ ὃ καὶ δέδεμαι
Category: Church
Colossians 4:3. Compounds راز’s High risk with the baseline’s Critical Mission/Evangelism safety rating; handle with acute pastoral sensitivity given the real, present danger of imprisonment or worse for Pashto-speaking evangelists and converts.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: انجیل
Transliteration: Injil
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: زیری
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:5, 1:23, 1:25 describe the gospel as having ‘come to you’ and ‘bearing fruit and growing in all the world’ (1:6); teach as the NT record itself, not a lost predecessor text, per the shared tahrif assumption.
Grace
Approved rendering: فضل
Transliteration: fazal
Doctrine: Grace
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:6 ties grace directly to the gospel’s fruit-bearing power (1:2, 1:6, 3:16, 4:6, 4:18); must not read as a reciprocity-creating melmastia gift.
Faith
Approved rendering: ایمان
Transliteration: iman
Doctrine: Faith
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:4, 2:5, 2:7, 2:12 use faith as the ground of union with Christ in baptism; object of faith (Christ) must remain recoverable from context.
Apostle
Approved rendering: رسول
Transliteration: rasul
Doctrine: Apostleship
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:1, Paul’s self-designation; collides with Muhammad’s rasul title as in the Romans baseline.
Called
Approved rendering: بلل شوی
Transliteration: balal shaway
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλητός / κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. In Colossians 3:15 the church is ‘called to peace in one body’; the direction of address (God calling the church) must remain explicit.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: تقدیس
Transliteration: taqdis
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: پاکوالی
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies the whole ‘new self’ section (Colossians 3:1-17); NEVER پاکوالی (ritual cleanliness).
Sin
Approved rendering: ګناه
Transliteration: gunah
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:14, 2:11, 2:13 address forgiveness and deliverance from sin; distinguish from honor-shame violations of the nang code.
Obedience Of Faith
Approved rendering: د ایمان اطاعت
Transliteration: da iman ita’at
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Original: ὑπακοή (root; reused in household code ὑπακούετε)
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Root اطاعت reused in the Colossians household code (3:20, 3:22) for children’s and slaves’ obedience within a Christ-centered household, not primarily loyalty to Islamic submission or Pashtunwali elder-obedience codes.
Prophet
Approved rendering: پیغمبر
Transliteration: peghambar
Doctrine: Inspiration of Scripture
Original: προφήτης (background reference only)
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Background reference only in Colossians (no direct occurrence); retained for cross-curriculum consistency.
Covenant
Approved rendering: تړون
Transliteration: tarun
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Original: διαθήκη (not directly used in Colossians; contrast with σύνδεσμος, 3:14)
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Not directly used in Colossians; retained specifically to flag that Colossians 3:14’s ‘bond of perfection’ (σύνδεσμος) is a lexically DIFFERENT word and must use تړی, never تړون, to avoid doctrinal confusion between an ethical-relational metaphor and the covenant category.
Election
Approved rendering: غوره کول
Transliteration: ghwara kawul
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Original: ἐκλογή (root; underlies 3:12 ‘God’s chosen ones,’ ἐκλεκτοί)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies Colossians 3:12’s ‘God’s chosen ones’ (ἐκλεκτοί), directly preceding the new-self virtue list; must not be tied to tribal lineage or bloodline status.
Mission
Approved rendering: ماموریت
Transliteration: ma’muriyat
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations
Original: θύραν τοῦ λόγου (root; 4:3)
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Underlying category for Colossians 4:3’s ‘open door for the word’; carries the same severe, potentially life-threatening legal and social risk for converts and evangelists.
Israel
Approved rendering: اسرائیل
Transliteration: Esra’il
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Original: background only; not named directly in Colossians
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 3:11’s ‘no Greek and Jew’ presupposes but does not directly use this term; retained for cross-curriculum consistency.
Abba
Approved rendering: ابا
Transliteration: Abba
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: not directly used in Colossians
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Not directly used in Colossians but retained for cross-document consistency given Colossians’ own strong adoption/inheritance emphasis (1:12-14, 3:24).
Cosmic Powers
Approved rendering: تختونه، واکمنۍ، واکمنان، اختیارات
Transliteration: takhtoona, wakmanai, wakmanan, ikhtiyarat
Doctrine: Christ’s Triumph over Spiritual Powers
Original: θρόνοι, κυριότητες, ἀρχαί, ἐξουσίαι
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:16, 2:10, 2:15. Collides with active Pashtun folk-Islamic belief in jinn, evil-eye powers, and protective amulets (taweez); must be taught as evidence of Christ’s supremacy OVER every such power, linked explicitly to 2:15 and 2:18.
Head
Approved rendering: سر
Transliteration: sar
Doctrine: Christ as Head of the Church
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Church
Colossians 1:18, 2:10, 2:19. Same word later applies to husband’s headship (3:18-19); in a strongly patriarchal Pashtun culture must be taught with self-sacrificial, cross-shaped content (1:20, 24) BEFORE the household-code sense is introduced.
Preeminent
Approved rendering: په هر شي کې لومړیتوب لرونکی
Transliteration: pa har shai ke lumaRitob larunkay
Doctrine: Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ over Creation
Original: πρωτεύων
Category: Christology
Colossians 1:18. Summary term for the whole Sufficiency-of-Christ doctrine; never softened to ‘important’ or ‘great,’ which would understate the totalizing ‘in everything’ scope.
Making Peace
Approved rendering: سوله راوستل
Transliteration: sola rawustal
Doctrine: Reconciliation through the Cross
Original: εἰρηνοποιήσας
Category: Salvation
Colossians 1:20. Built on baseline سوله; makes explicit that peace with God cost blood, closing the gap between سوله’s general war-ending resonance and its specific atoning content.
Mystery
Approved rendering: راز
Transliteration: raz
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Church
Colossians 1:26, 1:27, 2:2, 4:3. راز is a live Sufi devotional-poetry word for ONGOING hidden truth reserved for initiates — the OPPOSITE of Paul’s point. Every occurrence MUST pair راز with explicit ‘now revealed/made known’ (اوس ښکاره شوی) language, no exceptions.
Human Tradition
Approved rendering: د انسان دود دستور
Transliteration: da insan dod dastur
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
Original: παράδοσις τῶν ἀνθρώπων
Category: Church
Colossians 2:8. Given hadith/sunnah’s high authority in the surrounding culture, must be understood as Paul’s critique of a specific syncretistic local teaching, never a blanket attack on the category of tradition generally.
Elemental Spirits
Approved rendering: د دنیا ابتدايي اصول/قوتونه
Transliteration: da dunya ibtidai usul/qowatoona
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
Original: τὰ στοιχεῖα τοῦ κόσμου
Category: Church
Colossians 2:8, 2:20. Genuinely ambiguous term; intersects directly with folk-Islamic amulet/astrology/evil-eye practice. Teach alongside 1:16 and 2:15 (Christ’s supremacy and triumph), making rule-based appeasement unnecessary.
Circumcision
Approved rendering: ختنه
Transliteration: khatna
Doctrine: Union with Christ (Died and Raised With Him)
Rejected alternatives: سنت
Original: περιτομή
Category: Covenant
Colossians 2:11, 3:11, 4:11. NEVER سنت (which carries specifically Islamic normative-Sunnah connotation); ختنه keeps the term neutral/descriptive. Doctrinal point: union with Christ, not any physical rite, marks covenant belonging.
Certificate Of Debt
Approved rendering: زموږ د پور لیک
Transliteration: zamung da por leek
Doctrine: Redemption and Forgiveness of Sins
Original: τὸ χειρόγραφον
Category: Salvation
Colossians 2:14. A legal-financial metaphor for the cancellation of a real, binding debt; must not be confused with the literal handwriting of any scriptural commandment set.
Decrees Regulations
Approved rendering: مقررات
Transliteration: muqarrarat
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
Rejected alternatives: احکام
Original: δόγμασιν
Category: Church
Colossians 2:14, 2:20. δόγμα is lexically distinct from νόμος (ناموس). NEVER احکام (standard term for binding Islamic shari’a rulings, which would wrongly cast this as a polemic against Islamic law specifically); مقررات stays neutral and must not be merged with ناموس.
Disarmed And Triumphed
Approved rendering: واکونه یې وار خلاص کړل، بریالۍ فتحه یې ولمانځه
Transliteration: wakoona ye war khlas kral, biryali fatha ye lamancha
Doctrine: Christ’s Triumph over Spiritual Powers
Original: ἀπεκδυσάμενος… θριαμβεύσας
Category: Christology
Colossians 2:15. A positive apologetic resource against folk-Islamic fear of jinn/evil-eye powers; teach as an already-accomplished, total, public victory — the cross as victory, not defeat — while avoiding syncretistic ‘spiritual warfare’ appeasement practices.
Worship Of Angels
Approved rendering: د پرښتو عبادت
Transliteration: da pareshto ebadat
Doctrine: Warning against False Teaching and Syncretism
Original: θρησκεία τῶν ἀγγέλων
Category: Church
Colossians 2:18. Islamic angelology (Jibril, Mika’il) is prominent; teach as a warning against wrongly directed devotion, not a denial that angels exist (Colossians 1:16 itself affirms them as created beings).
Self Made Religion
Approved rendering: ځان جوړه شوی عبادت / بدن ته سختوالی
Transliteration: zan jorRah shaway ebadat / badan ta sakhtwali
Doctrine: Warning against Asceticism and False Humility
Original: ἐθελοθρησκία / ἀφειδία σώματος
Category: Church
Colossians 2:18, 2:23. Directly parallels regional Sufi mystical ascetic practice (self-mortification, extreme fasting, withdrawal); a positive corrective — biblical spirituality is not measured by self-imposed severity.
Put Off Put On
Approved rendering: لرې کول / اغوستل
Transliteration: lare kawul / aghustal
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
Original: ἀποθέσθαι / ἐνδύσασθε
Category: Sanctification
Colossians 3:8, 3:9, 3:10, 3:12. A genuine cultural asset (Pashtun dress-and-honor culture); ensure the metaphor is understood as Spirit-empowered inward transformation, not mere external behavior modification or performance for social honor.
Old Self
Approved rendering: زوړ انسان
Transliteration: zoR insan
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
Original: ὁ παλαιὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Sanctification
Colossians 3:9. A decisively-ended past identity, not an ongoing internal struggle to be perpetually managed; distinguish from Romans 7’s different question.
New Self
Approved rendering: نوی انسان
Transliteration: nuway insan
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
Original: ὁ νέος ἄνθρωπος
Category: Sanctification
Colossians 3:10. An identity to be actively ‘put on’; renewal is patterned after ‘the image of the Creator,’ the same انځور word as 1:15 — consistency of rendering is mandatory.
Idolatry Of Covetousness
Approved rendering: د بتانو عبادت
Transliteration: da butano ebadat
Doctrine: Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
Original: εἰδωλολατρία
Category: Sanctification
Colossians 3:5. Paul’s metaphorical extension of idol-worship to inward covetousness; care is needed so listeners do not conclude the verse addresses ONLY physical idol-worship (already condemned in Islam) and miss the convicting extension to greed.
Forgive As The Lord Forgave
Approved rendering: بښنه کول
Transliteration: bakhna kawul
Doctrine: Forgiveness and Community Ethics
Original: χαριζόμενοι… καθὼς καὶ ὁ κύριος ἐχαρίσατο ὑμῖν
Category: Sanctification
Colossians 3:13. Must be distinguished from نانواتی, a specific, formal ritual act of submission ending a blood feud; this verse commands an ongoing, everyday, grace-shaped posture modeled on Christ’s own costly forgiveness, not a repeatable ritual-submission transaction.
Word Of Christ
Approved rendering: د مسیح خبرې
Transliteration: da masih khabare
Doctrine: The Word of Christ in Corporate Worship
Rejected alternatives: کلام
Original: ὁ λόγος τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Church
Colossians 3:16. کلام is the established regional Bible-tradition rendering for Logos/word, but ALSO denotes Quranic revelation (Kalam Allah) and Islamic kalam theology; since this verse refers to Christ’s own message dwelling in the community, not a technical Logos-Christology claim, خبرې/پیغام is preferred here specifically.
Submit
Approved rendering: غاړه ایښودل
Transliteration: ghaRa ekhodal
Doctrine: Household Codes
Original: ὑποτάσσεσθε
Category: Church
Colossians 3:18. Voluntary, ordered submission of a wife within a relationship of trust; MUST always be presented together with the husband’s counterbalancing command to love (3:19), never as a stand-alone command reinforcing existing patriarchal authority.
Husbands Love
Approved rendering: خپلو مېرمنو سره مینه کوئ
Transliteration: khpalo mermano sara mina kawai
Doctrine: Household Codes
Original: ἀγαπᾶτε τὰς γυναῖκας
Category: Church
Colossians 3:19. Self-giving, sacrificial love on the model of Christ’s own self-giving headship; must be taught with equal or greater emphasis than the submission command.
Children Obey
Approved rendering: اطاعت کوئ
Transliteration: ita’at kawai
Doctrine: Household Codes
Original: τὰ τέκνα, ὑπακούετε
Category: Church
Colossians 3:20. Reuses the baseline اطاعت root; distinguish Christ-centered household obedience from generic Islamic submission vocabulary and Pashtunwali’s tribal-elder obedience code.
Bondservants Obey
Approved rendering: غلامان، اطاعت کوئ
Transliteration: ghulaman, ita’at kawai
Doctrine: Slavery and Christian Ethics in the Household Code
Original: οἱ δοῦλοι, ὑπακούετε
Category: Church
Colossians 3:22. Requires explicit historical/pastoral framing; must NEVER be taught or excerpted as a timeless divine endorsement of slavery. Pair with 4:1’s constraint on masters.
Inheritance
Approved rendering: میراث
Transliteration: miras
Doctrine: Adoption and Inheritance in God’s Household
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Salvation
Colossians 1:12-14, 3:24. Ties to the baseline’s Critical Adoption doctrine and Pashtun patrilineal tribal inheritance customs; God’s promise of full inheritance-reward to a socially low-status slave is a pointed, countercultural application.
Redemption
Approved rendering: خلاصون
Transliteration: khlasoon
Doctrine: Redemption and Forgiveness of Sins
Rejected alternatives: فدیه
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Salvation
Colossians 1:14. NEVER فدیه, the specific Islamic legal term for a compensatory exemption-payment (e.g., fidya for missed fasting); خلاصون preserves the sense of personal deliverance from bondage.
Christ In You
Approved rendering: مسیح ستاسو پکې اوسي
Transliteration: masih staso pake osi
Doctrine: Christian Identity in Christ
Original: Χριστὸς ἐν ὑμῖν
Category: Church
Colossians 1:27. The indwelling presence of Christ in Gentile believers, content of the revealed mystery; foundation for chapters 2-3’s fuller Union-with-Christ teaching.
Treasures Of Wisdom And Knowledge
Approved rendering: د حکمت او پوهې خزانې
Transliteration: da hikmat aw pohe khazane
Doctrine: Wisdom and Knowledge Hidden in Christ
Original: θησαυροὶ τῆς σοφίας καὶ γνώσεως
Category: Church
Colossians 2:3. Rules out any need for supplementary secret higher knowledge beyond Christ; relevant to both proto-gnostic and regional syncretistic secret-knowledge claims.
Present Holy And Blameless
Approved rendering: مقدس، بې عیبه او بې ملامته یې دروړي
Transliteration: moqaddas, be aiba aw be malamata ye drawRi
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: παραστῆσαι ὑμᾶς ἁγίους καὶ ἀμώμους
Category: Sanctification
Colossians 1:22. God’s declarative act of presenting believers before himself as whole and unaccused; ties to the baseline’s Critical Justification doctrine since this is God’s act, not the believer’s own achievement.
Medium Risk Terms
Calling
Approved rendering: بلنه
Transliteration: balana
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies Colossians 3:15’s corporate calling to peace.
Holy
Approved rendering: مقدس
Transliteration: moqaddas
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:22, 3:12; avoid ritual-purity-only connotations.
Saints
Approved rendering: مقدسان
Transliteration: moqaddasan
Doctrine: Sainthood
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Colossians 1:2, 1:4, 1:12, 1:26; corporate designation for all Colossian believers, including Gentiles, never an ascetic elite.
Peace
Approved rendering: سوله
Transliteration: sola
Doctrine: Peace with God
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Extended in Colossians to Christ’s cosmic reconciling peace (1:20) and the church’s communal peace (3:15); 1:20 makes explicit that this peace cost blood.
Spiritual Gifts
Approved rendering: روحاني ورکړې
Transliteration: rohani warkane
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
