Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — Luke (Full-Book Matrix)
This document is the full-book doctrine matrix for the Luke curriculum, executed under PRD Phase 1 Step 4/5. It is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (v1): same 35 doctrines, same risk tiers, same review routing. This document adds the chapter-by-chapter coverage trace the registry does not itself present, confirming that all 24 chapters of Luke have been reviewed for doctrinal load, including chapters that mainly reinforce doctrines already anchored elsewhere.
Risk tiers (unchanged from the Romans baseline):
- Critical — mistranslation destroys/alters essential doctrine; human theologian review, every occurrence.
- High — significant theological confusion or syncretism risk; human theologian review.
- Medium — reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning; native speaker review.
- Low — minor imprecision; automated review sufficient.
Risk summary (matches registry): Critical 14 · High 12 · Medium 8 · Low 1 · Total = 35 doctrines · 26 require theologian review · 8 require native speaker review · 1 automated only.
Part 1 — Full Doctrine Matrix
1.1 Critical-Risk Doctrines (14)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Luke) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Incarnation and Virgin Conception | 1:26-38, 1:34-35 | Critical | ἐπισκιάζω (“overshadow”) must never suggest hóa thân (repeatable deity/bodhisattva manifestation). Unique, permanent, historical act producing a real human birth. | Human theologian |
| The Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History | 1:15, 1:35, 1:41, 1:67, 3:22, 4:1, 4:14, 4:18, 10:21, 11:13, 24:49 | Critical | Đức Thánh Linh in full only; never bare thần linh (folk spirit category) or framed as đồng bóng trance-possession. | Human theologian |
| Deity of Christ | 1:32-35, 4:41, 8:28, 22:70 | Critical | Co-equal eternal deity, confessed even by demons; never a deified folk hero venerated at a đền. | Human theologian |
| Sonship of Christ | 1:32, 3:22, 4:3, 4:9, 9:35, 22:70 | Critical | Eternal, unique Sonship — tested in the wilderness by this very title; never adoptive/honorary, never a deified ancestor-spirit title. | Human theologian |
| The Son of Man Title | 5:24, 9:22, 9:26, 12:8-10, 17:22-37, 19:10, 22:69, 24:7 | Critical | Daniel-7-rooted title combining full humanity with divine authority to forgive and judge; flattening to “a human being” (con của loài người) loses all title-force and has no Vietnamese cultural analogue, requiring positive construction, not mere avoidance. | Human theologian |
| Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People | 2:10-11, 2:30-32, 7:1-10, 19:1-10, 24:47 | Critical | Cứu Chúa = personal historical rescuer for Jew/Gentile, rich/poor; never a generic benefactor or negotiable folk guardian-deity function. | Human theologian |
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 1:77, 3:3-8, 5:20-24, 5:32, 7:47-49, 13:3-5, 15:7, 15:10, 17:3-4, 18:13-14, 24:47 | Critical | Highest-frequency collision point in the book: sự ăn năn never sám hối; sự tha tội never sự giải thoát or xóa nghiệp. Relational transaction with a personal God, not karma-reduction. | Human theologian |
| Justification | 18:9-14 | Critical | Tax collector “went down justified,” not the observant Pharisee — clearest single forensic-declaration narrative in the Gospels; must not be softened into moral self-improvement. | Human theologian |
| Salvation | 1:69, 1:77, 2:11, 2:30, 7:50, 8:48, 17:19, 18:42, 19:9-10 | Critical | NEVER sự giải thoát (samsara liberation); reconciliation with a personal God reaching rich (Zacchaeus) and destitute-dying (the thief) alike. | Human theologian |
| Resurrection of Christ | 9:22, 18:33, 20:27-38, 24:1-12, 24:34, 24:46 | Critical | Sự sống lại never đầu thai/luân hồi; bodily, historical, once-for-all — the empty tomb is the doctrine’s climactic Lukan statement. | Human theologian |
| Lordship of Christ | 2:11, 4:18, 6:5, 20:41-44 | Critical | Exclusive, supreme Lordship (“Christ the Lord,” “Lord of the Sabbath”); never a generic polite honorific. | Human theologian |
| Eschatological Judgment: Gehenna and Hades | 12:4-5, 16:19-31 | Critical | Hỏa ngục / âm phủ risk assimilation into the folk-Taoist multi-court hell (thập điện, Diêm Vương) with negotiable, reversible, karmic punishment; biblical judgment is fixed, final, unaffected by descendants’ rites. | Human theologian |
| Assurance of Salvation and Paradise | 23:39-43 | Critical | Dying thief’s immediate assurance rests solely on Christ’s word; avoid bare thiên đàng (risks conflation with Tây Phương Cực Lạc reached through merit); prefer transliterated Ba-ra-đi + explicit “with Christ.” | Human theologian |
| Mission to All Nations | 2:32, 13:29, 24:44-49 | Critical | 24:47 unites repentance + forgiveness + unqualified universal scope (muôn dân); scope must never narrow to an ethnic/ancestral-lineage group; forgiveness terms carry the same giải thoát collision risk throughout. | Human theologian |
1.2 High-Risk Doctrines (12)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Luke) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Messianic Promise | 2:11, 2:26, 4:18-21, 9:20, 22:67, 24:26-27 | High | No rival Vietnamese messianic figure; task is connecting Đấng Mê-si-a to OT roots (Isaiah 61) at each occurrence, especially the core passage’s “today…fulfilled” claim. | Human theologian |
| Humanity of Christ | 2:7, 2:40, 2:52, 3:23 | High | Fully real, physical, developing human existence; never a temporary episodic manifestation as in deity/bodhisattva human-appearance tales. | Human theologian |
| Universal Scope: Rich and Poor Together | 1:52-53, 6:20-26, 16:19-31, 18:18-30, 19:1-10 | High | Gospel reaches destitute and wealthy-but-needy alike without distinction; must not become wealth-as-merit / poverty-as-karmic-deficiency framing. | Human theologian |
| Good News to the Poor and Marginalized | 4:18-19, 6:20-22, 7:22, 14:13, 14:21, 21:1-4 | High | Real economic/social referent for “poor”; phước cho = God’s sovereign unearned favor, opposite of Buddhist merit-fortune (phước đức); Jubilee language tied to Leviticus 25, not lunar “lucky year.” | Human theologian |
| Prayer and Dependence on God | 3:21, 6:12, 9:18, 9:28-29, 11:1-13, 18:1-8, 22:39-46, 23:34, 23:46 | High | Direct address to God as Cha, sharply distinguished from cầu xin tổ tiên (ancestor-altar petition) — the single most sensitive collision point for this doctrine in Vietnamese practice. | Human theologian |
| The Kingdom of God: Present Reality | 4:43, 10:9, 11:20, 17:21 | High | ”Has come near / is among you” must not be softened into a purely future hope; real historical in-breaking, not a private mystical state. | Human theologian |
| The Cost and Joy of Discipleship | 5:1-11, 9:23-26, 9:57-62, 14:25-33, 18:28-30 | High | ”Hate father and mother” (14:26) needs careful framing against Confucian filial piety (đạo hiếu) — absolute priority of Christ, not literal hatred or family abandonment; genuine cultural friction point. | Human theologian |
| Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners | 5:29-32, 7:36-50, 10:33-37, 15:1-2, 15:20, 19:1-10 | High | Động lòng thương xót is personal, particular, divinely-initiating, distinct from từ bi (impartial cultivated Buddhist compassion); social scandal of table fellowship must not be smoothed into generic hospitality. | Human theologian |
| Adoption and Restoration of Sonship | 15:11-24, 20:34-36 | High | Prodigal’s full restoration grounded in the father’s grace/compassion, not a đạo hiếu-governed reinstatement the son must first earn. | Human theologian |
| New Covenant and Atonement | 22:14-20 | High | Fulfills, does not discard, Passover/Exodus covenant faithfulness; atoning “price” never framed as a reciprocal repayable debt (ơn nghĩa). | Human theologian |
| Christ’s Spiritual Authority over Evil | 4:33-36, 4:41, 8:26-39, 9:37-43, 10:17-20, 11:14-26 | High | Unique, direct, word-based authority; sharply distinct from folk exorcism (trừ tà) by mediums (đồng bóng) or ritual specialists (thầy pháp) as a replicable human technique. | Human theologian |
| Transfiguration and the Glory of Christ | 9:28-36 | High | Unveiling of Christ’s own pre-existing inherent glory, not a deity’s/spirit’s shape-shifting into another form (a familiar folk-Taoist motif). | Human theologian |
1.3 Medium-Risk Doctrines (8)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Luke) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Davidic Covenant | 1:27, 1:32, 1:69, 2:4, 3:23-31, 18:38-39, 20:41-44 | Medium | Requires OT background teaching; no competing Vietnamese folk concept — risk is audience unfamiliarity, not syncretism. | Native speaker review |
| Fulfillment of Prophecy | 4:21, 24:25-27, 24:44-45 | Medium | Linear, one-time historical fulfillment, not Buddhist cyclical time; được ứng nghiệm must retain completed, perfect-tense force. | Native speaker review |
| The Kingdom of God: Future Consummation | 13:18-21, 21:27-31, 22:16-18 | Medium | Must be read as the same kingdom’s future pole alongside the “already” texts, neither collapsing into nor denying the present-reality texts. | Native speaker review |
| Sabbath and the Law | 4:16, 6:1-11, 13:10-17, 14:1-6 | Medium | Mosaic Law is a genuine God-given covenant standard, not a dharma-like general cosmic duty. | Native speaker review |
| Inspiration of Scripture | 1:1-4, 4:17-21, 24:27, 24:44-45 | Medium | Luke’s prologue claims careful historical, eyewitness-anchored investigation; distinct from Buddhist sutra transmission via enlightened insight or Confucian sage-classic transmission. | Native speaker review |
| The Temptation and Testing of Christ | 4:1-13, 22:40, 22:46 | Medium | The devil is a personal malevolent adversary testing Jesus directly, not an impersonal misfortune-principle or karmic trial. | Native speaker review |
| Neighbor Love and Kingdom Ethics | 6:27-36, 10:25-37 | Medium | Good Samaritan redefines “neighbor” across ethnic/religious lines; grounded in Christ’s redefinition of love, not Confucian reciprocity-ethics (ơn nghĩa) expecting a return favor. | Native speaker review |
| Stewardship and the Right Use of Wealth | 12:13-21, 16:1-13, 16:19-31, 19:11-27 | Medium | Wealth entrusted for faithful use pending the King’s return, not a possession to hoard or a merit-signal; “cannot serve God and money” must retain full exclusivity. | Native speaker review |
1.4 Low-Risk Doctrines (1)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Luke) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Thanksgiving and Worship | 1:46-55, 1:68-79, 2:13-14, 2:20, 17:15-16, 24:52-53 | Low | Standard worship/gratitude vocabulary; minimal doctrinal risk beyond ordinary consistency. | Automated review |
Part 2 — Chapter-by-Chapter Coverage Confirmation (Luke 1–24)

| 10 | Christ’s Spiritual Authority over Evil (10:17-20); Holy Spirit’s Work (10:21); Neighbor Love and Kingdom Ethics (10:25-37); Compassion and Table Fellowship (10:33-37) | Good Samaritan narrative; sending of the Seventy-Two reinforces (without separately re-registering) the Mission to All Nations doctrine. |
| 11 | Prayer and Dependence on God (11:1-13, Lord’s Prayer); Holy Spirit’s Work (11:13); Christ’s Spiritual Authority over Evil (11:14-26); Kingdom of God: Present Reality (11:20) | Central prayer-teaching chapter for doctrine 5. |
| 12 | Eschatological Judgment: Gehenna and Hades (12:4-5); Stewardship and the Right Use of Wealth (12:13-21); Prayer and Dependence on God (12:22-31, “do not be anxious,” supporting) | Introduces Gehenna alongside the ch. 16 Hades material as a matched Critical pair. |
| 13 | Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins (13:3-5); Sabbath and the Law (13:10-17); Kingdom of God: Future Consummation (13:18-21); Mission to All Nations (13:29, eschatological banquet) | Ties present-kingdom parables to the future-consummation doctrine. |
| 14 | Good News to the Poor and Marginalized (14:13, 14:21); Cost and Joy of Discipleship (14:25-33); Sabbath and the Law (14:1-6) | Counting-the-cost teaching directly supports curriculum doctrine 7. |
| 15 | Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners (15:1-2, 15:20); Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins (15:7, 15:10); Adoption and Restoration of Sonship (15:11-24) | Prodigal Son is the doctrinal keystone for both repentance and adoption. |
| 16 | Stewardship and the Right Use of Wealth (16:1-13); Eschatological Judgment: Gehenna and Hades (16:19-31); Universal Scope: Rich and Poor (16:19-31); Inspiration of Scripture (“Moses and the prophets,” 16:29, supporting) | Rich Man and Lazarus is the doctrinal keystone for both Hades and rich/poor universality. |
| 17 | Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins (17:3-4); Salvation (17:19); Kingdom of God: Present Reality (17:21); Son of Man Title (17:22-37, eschatological discourse) | Reinforces already-anchored doctrines; no new doctrine introduced. |
| 18 | Prayer and Dependence on God (18:1-8); Justification (18:9-14); Repentance and Forgiveness (18:13-14); Universal Scope: Rich and Poor / Cost and Joy of Discipleship (18:18-30); Resurrection of Christ (18:33, second prediction); Davidic Covenant (18:38-39); Salvation (18:42) | The Pharisee/tax-collector parable is the single clearest justification narrative in the Gospels. |
| 19 | Jesus as Savior for All Nations (19:1-10, Zacchaeus); Salvation (19:9-10); Compassion and Table Fellowship (19:1-10); Son of Man Title (19:10); Stewardship and the Right Use of Wealth (19:11-27) | Zacchaeus narrative is the doctrinal high point for “rich and poor” universality within doctrine 1. |
| 20 | Resurrection of Christ (20:27-38); Adoption and Restoration of Sonship (20:34-36, “sons of the resurrection”); Davidic Covenant / Lordship of Christ (20:41-44) | Sadducee dispute anchors resurrection doctrine ahead of ch. 24’s narrative fulfillment. |
| 21 | Good News to the Poor and Marginalized (21:1-4, widow’s offering); Kingdom of God: Future Consummation (21:27-31) | Widow’s-offering pericope reinforces, rather than introduces, the poor/marginalized doctrine. |
| 22 | New Covenant and Atonement (22:14-20); Kingdom of God: Future Consummation (22:16-18); Prayer and Dependence on God / Temptation and Testing of Christ (22:39-46); Messianic Promise (22:67); Son of Man Title (22:69); Sonship of Christ / Deity of Christ (22:70) | Last Supper and trial chapter; concentrates Christological confession doctrines just before the Passion. |

Coverage confirmation: All 24 chapters of Luke have been traced against the 35-doctrine matrix above. No chapter is silently omitted; chapters 8, 10, 17, and 21 are explicitly noted as reinforcing doctrines anchored elsewhere rather than introducing new doctrinal content.
Critical Risk Doctrines
Incarnation and Virgin Conception
Vietnamese name: Sự Nhập Thể và Sự Thai Sinh bởi Nữ Đồng Trinh
Key terms: overshadow, virgin, incarnation, holy_spirit, son_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
The Spirit’s ἐπισκιάζω (‘overshadow’) act causing Mary’s virginal conception must never be rendered with any word suggesting hóa thân, a bodhisattva’s or deity’s temporary, repeatable manifestation into a body; this is a permanent, unique, once-for-all divine act producing a real, unrepeated human birth.
The Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History
Vietnamese name: Công Việc của Đức Thánh Linh trong Lịch Sử Cứu Rỗi
Key terms: holy_spirit, filled_with_holy_spirit, anoint, power_from_on_high
Review routing: Human theologian
The Spirit’s fullness and empowerment must be conveyed as the personal work of the divine third Person of the Trinity (Đức Thánh Linh in full), never as an ecstatic folk trance-possession state associated with spirit mediums (đồng bóng), and never collapsed into the broad folk category of thần linh (spirits/local deities).
Deity of Christ
Vietnamese name: Thần Tính của Đấng Christ
Key terms: son_of_god, lord, most_high, glory
Review routing: Human theologian
Co-equal, eternal divine nature confessed even involuntarily by demons; must not be reduced to a deified historical hero venerated at a folk temple (đền) or to an enlightened teacher granted honorific status by his followers.
Sonship of Christ
Vietnamese name: Địa Vị Con của Đấng Christ
Key terms: son_of_god, most_high, chosen_one
Review routing: Human theologian
Eternal, unique Sonship announced before birth and tested in the wilderness by that very title; must never be read as a title claimed by a deified ancestor or folk-hero spirit, nor as adoptive or honorary sonship.
The Son of Man
Vietnamese name: Danh Hiệu Con Người
Key terms: son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
This Daniel-7-rooted title combines genuine humanity with divine authority and eschatological glory; a flattened rendering as merely ‘a human being’ (con của loài người) loses the title-force and could obscure Jesus’ unique divine-human authority to forgive sins and to judge, a claim with no cultural analogue and therefore requiring deliberate positive teaching rather than mere avoidance of a rival term.
Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Vietnamese name: Đức Chúa Giê-xu là Cứu Chúa cho Muôn Dân và Mọi Người
Key terms: savior, all_nations, gentiles, rich, poor
Review routing: Human theologian
Cứu Chúa must be taught as a personal, historical rescuer sent by God for both Jew and Gentile, rich and poor, never softened into a generic benefactor and never allowed to blend with a folk guardian-deity’s localized, negotiable protective function.
Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins
Vietnamese name: Sự Ăn Năn và Sự Tha Tội
Key terms: repentance, forgiveness_of_sins, sin
Review routing: Human theologian
This is Luke’s single most frequent doctrinal collision point with the baseline’s forbidden-substitution rules: repentance (sự ăn năn) must never be rendered sám hối (Buddhist ritual confession reducing karmic consequence), and forgiveness (sự tha tội) must never be rendered sự giải thoát or modeled on erasing impersonal karmic debt (xóa nghiệp); both terms must convey a relational transaction between the sinner and a personal God.
Justification
Vietnamese name: Sự Xưng Công Bình
Key terms: justification, righteousness, imputed_righteousness
Review routing: Human theologian
The tax collector ‘went down to his house justified’ rather than the religiously observant Pharisee — the clearest single narrative enactment of forensic declaration anywhere in the Gospels; must not be softened into mere self-improvement or moral effort on the tax collector’s part.
Salvation
Vietnamese name: Sự Cứu Rỗi
Key terms: salvation, savior, lost
Review routing: Human theologian
NEVER sự giải thoát (liberation from the cycle of rebirth, the central Buddhist soteriological goal); salvation in Luke is reconciliation with a personal God through Christ, reaching the rich-but-despised (Zacchaeus) and the dying-with-nothing-to-offer (the thief on the cross) alike.
Resurrection of Christ
Vietnamese name: Sự Sống Lại của Đấng Christ
Key terms: resurrection
Review routing: Human theologian
Bodily, historical, once-for-all resurrection; sự sống lại must never be rendered đầu thai or luân hồi (rebirth into the cycle of samsara, central to Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist cosmology) — the empty tomb narrative is the doctrine’s climactic statement in Luke.
Lordship of Christ
Vietnamese name: Quyền Làm Chúa của Đấng Christ
Key terms: lord
Review routing: Human theologian
Exclusive, supreme Lordship — ‘Christ the Lord’ at the nativity and ‘Lord of the Sabbath’ — must never be rendered as a generic polite address or blended with ordinary Vietnamese honorific usage of similar titles.
Eschatological Judgment: Gehenna and Hades
Vietnamese name: Sự Phán Xét Cuối Cùng: Hỏa Ngục và Âm Phủ
Key terms: gehenna, hades
Review routing: Human theologian
Both hỏa ngục (Gehenna, final judgment) and âm phủ (Hades, the intermediate state) risk assimilation into the Vietnamese folk-Taoist/Buddhist multi-court hell (thập điện) administered by judges (Diêm Vương) with proportionate, negotiable, and potentially reversible karmic punishment; biblical judgment is fixed, final, and determined solely by one’s response to God in life, not affected by descendants’ rituals, offerings, or merit-transfer.
Assurance of Salvation and Paradise
Vietnamese name: Sự Chắc Chắn của Sự Cứu Rỗi và Ba-ra-đi
Key terms: paradise, today, salvation
Review routing: Human theologian
The dying thief’s immediate assurance (‘today you will be with me in Paradise’) rests entirely on Christ’s own gracious word to a repentant sinner with no time for works; avoid bare thiên đàng, which risks conflation with Tây Phương Cực Lạc, the Buddhist Pure Land reached through accumulated merit or devotional recitation practice — prefer the transliterated Ba-ra-đi paired with explicit ‘with Christ’ language.
Mission to All Nations
Vietnamese name: Sứ Mệnh cho Muôn Dân
Key terms: all_nations, witness, repentance, forgiveness_of_sins
Review routing: Human theologian
The Great-Commission-equivalent charge (24:47) unites repentance, forgiveness of sins, and unqualified universal scope (‘all nations,’ muôn dân) in a single climactic verse; the scope must never be narrowed to a particular ethnic, regional, or ancestral-lineage group, and the forgiveness terminology carries the same giải thoát collision risk noted throughout the Gospel.
High Risk Doctrines
Messianic Promise
Vietnamese name: Lời Hứa về Đấng Mê-si-a
Key terms: messiah, anoint, davidic_covenant
Review routing: Human theologian
Vietnamese religious tradition has no rival messianic figure, so the primary teaching task is connecting Đấng Mê-si-a to its Old Testament roots (Isaiah 61) at each occurrence, especially in the core passage’s climactic ‘today this Scripture has been fulfilled’ claim.
Humanity of Christ
Vietnamese name: Nhân Tính của Đấng Christ
Key terms: virgin, son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s humanity was fully real, physical, developing human existence, not a temporary manifestation as in stories of deities or bodhisattvas appearing in human form for an episode before returning to a purely spiritual state.
Universal Scope: Rich and Poor Together
Vietnamese name: Phạm Vi Phổ Quát: Người Giàu và Người Nghèo
Key terms: rich, poor, tax_collector
Review routing: Human theologian
The gospel reaches both the destitute (người nghèo) and the wealthy-but-spiritually-needy (người giàu, người thu thuế) without distinction; must not be reframed as wealth signaling accumulated merit or poverty signaling karmic deficiency.
Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Vietnamese name: Tin Lành cho Người Nghèo và Người Bị Gạt Ra Ngoài Lề
Key terms: poor, blessed, captive, oppressed, jubilee_year
Review routing: Human theologian
Retains Luke’s insistently literal economic and social referent for ‘poor’; the Beatitude formula phước cho must be taught as God’s sovereign, unearned favor, the opposite of Buddhist merit-based fortune (phước đức); the Jubilee-year language must be tied to Leviticus 25, not to lunar-calendar ‘lucky year’ fortune-telling.
Prayer and Dependence on God
Vietnamese name: Sự Cầu Nguyện và Sự Trông Cậy vào Đức Chúa Trời
Key terms: prayer, father, providence
Review routing: Human theologian
Direct personal address and petition to God as Cha must be clearly distinguished from ritual petitions offered at the family ancestral altar (cầu xin tổ tiên) — the single most sensitive collision point in Vietnamese religious practice for this doctrine; prayer is address to a living, personal God, not an offering to a departed family member.
The Kingdom of God: Present Reality
Vietnamese name: Nước Đức Chúa Trời: Thực Tại Hiện Tại
Key terms: kingdom_of_god, today, unclean_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
‘The kingdom of God has come near/is among you’ (perfect/present-tense claims) must not be softened into a purely future hope; the kingdom’s non-spectacular, already-present breaking-in through Jesus’ word and exorcisms must be preserved as historically real, not a purely inward mystical state.
The Cost and Joy of Discipleship
Vietnamese name: Giá Phải Trả và Niềm Vui của Sự Làm Môn Đồ
Key terms: disciple, cross
Review routing: Human theologian
The relative-priority language (‘hate father and mother,’ 14:26) must be taught carefully against Confucian filial piety (đạo hiếu); this is not a call to literal hatred or abandonment of family duty, but a statement that loyalty to Christ takes absolute priority over every other relationship, however honored — a genuine point of cultural friction requiring explicit pastoral framing.
Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners
Vietnamese name: Lòng Thương Xót của Đức Chúa Giê-xu và Sự Thông Công Bàn Ăn với Kẻ Có Tội
Key terms: compassion, sinners, tax_collector, mercy
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’ compassion (động lòng thương xót) is personal, particular, divinely-initiating action toward a specific person, distinct from từ bi, the Buddhist ideal of impartially cultivated compassion extended equally to all beings as spiritual practice; the social scandal of table fellowship with the despised must be preserved, not smoothed into generic hospitality.
Adoption and Restoration of Sonship
Vietnamese name: Sự Làm Con Nuôi và Sự Phục Hồi Địa Vị Làm Con
Key terms: adoption, lost, compassion
Review routing: Human theologian
The Prodigal Son’s restoration to full sonship and inheritance standing (robe, ring, feast) must be taught as full, unearned restoration grounded in the father’s grace and compassion, not a hierarchical reinstatement governed by Confucian filial-duty obligation (đạo hiếu) that the son must first satisfy.
New Covenant and Atonement
Vietnamese name: Giao Ước Mới và Sự Chuộc Tội
Key terms: new_covenant, passover, redemption
Review routing: Human theologian
The New Covenant instituted in Christ’s body and blood must be taught as fulfilling, not discarding, God’s prior Passover/Exodus covenant faithfulness; the atoning ‘price’ language must never be framed as a reciprocal, repayable social debt akin to ơn nghĩa.
Christ’s Spiritual Authority over Evil
Vietnamese name: Uy Quyền Thuộc Linh của Đấng Christ trên Tà Linh
Key terms: unclean_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’ authority over demons is unique, direct, and word-based; must be distinguished sharply from Vietnamese folk exorcism practice (trừ tà) performed by spirit mediums (đồng bóng) or ritual specialists (thầy pháp), which is a replicable human ritual technique rather than an inherent divine prerogative.
Transfiguration and the Glory of Christ
Vietnamese name: Sự Biến Hình và Sự Vinh Hiển của Đấng Christ
Key terms: transfigured, glory, chosen_one
Review routing: Human theologian
Must be taught as the unveiling of Christ’s own pre-existing, inherent divine glory, not a deity’s or spirit’s shape-shifting into a different form or manifestation, a motif familiar from Vietnamese folk-religious and Taoist-influenced tales of deities changing appearance.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Davidic Covenant
Vietnamese name: Giao Ước với Đa-vít
Key terms: david, seed_of_david
Review routing: Native speaker review
Requires Old Testament covenant background teaching; no directly competing Vietnamese folk concept, so the risk is primarily audience unfamiliarity rather than syncretism.
Fulfillment of Prophecy
Vietnamese name: Sự Ứng Nghiệm Lời Tiên Tri
Key terms: fulfilled, prophecy, prophet
Review routing: Native speaker review
Linear, one-time historical fulfillment (an Old Testament word fulfilled in a specific historical person and moment), not the cyclical time-frame of Buddhist cosmology; được ứng nghiệm must retain the perfect-tense, completed force and not be softened to ‘is coming true.‘
The Kingdom of God: Future Consummation
Vietnamese name: Nước Đức Chúa Trời: Sự Hoàn Tất trong Tương Lai
Key terms: kingdom_of_god, redemption
Review routing: Native speaker review
Must be read together with the ‘already’ texts as the same kingdom’s two poles, not as a contradiction; the still-future consummation must not collapse into, nor be denied by, the present-tense texts elsewhere in Luke.
Sabbath and the Law
Vietnamese name: Ngày Sa-bát và Luật Pháp
Key terms: law, synagogue
Review routing: Native speaker review
Jesus’ Sabbath practice and controversies presuppose the Mosaic Law as a genuine, God-given covenant standard, not a general cosmic duty or dharma-like moral order; comparatively low syncretism risk, mainly requiring OT background.
Inspiration of Scripture
Vietnamese name: Sự Soi Dẫn của Kinh Thánh
Key terms: prophecy, fulfilled
Review routing: Native speaker review
Luke’s own prologue claims careful historical investigation grounded in eyewitness testimony; distinguish God-breathed, historically anchored Scripture from Buddhist sutras transmitted through enlightened teachers’ insight or Confucian classics transmitted through sage tradition.
The Temptation and Testing of Christ
Vietnamese name: Sự Cám Dỗ và Thử Thách của Đấng Christ
Key terms: son_of_god
Review routing: Native speaker review
The devil is a personal, malevolent spiritual adversary testing Jesus directly, not an impersonal principle of misfortune or a karmic trial arising from past causes; the personal nature of the adversary must be preserved even though Vietnamese tradition has no directly competing rival figure.
Neighbor Love and Kingdom Ethics
Vietnamese name: Tình Yêu Người Lân Cận và Đạo Đức Nước Trời
Key terms: compassion
Review routing: Native speaker review
The Good Samaritan redefines ‘neighbor’ across ethnic and religious boundary lines; must be taught as flowing from Christ’s own redefinition of love, not from Confucian reciprocity-based relational ethics (ơn nghĩa) which expects a return favor.
Stewardship and the Right Use of Wealth
Vietnamese name: Sự Quản Trị và Cách Sử Dụng Tiền Của Đúng Đắn
Key terms: rich
Review routing: Native speaker review
Wealth is entrusted for faithful use in light of the king’s (Christ’s) return, not a possession to be hoarded or a sign of accumulated merit; competing-master language (‘cannot serve God and money’) must retain its exclusivity.
Low Risk Doctrines
Thanksgiving and Worship
Vietnamese name: Sự Cảm Tạ và Sự Thờ Phượng
Key terms: thanksgiving, glory
Review routing: Automated review
Standard worship and gratitude vocabulary; minimal doctrinal risk beyond ordinary consistency.
