Revelation — vietnamese

TRI knowledge bundle for Revelation (vietnamese).

Executive Summary

01 Executive Summary — Revelation (English → Vietnamese)

Why it matters: Revelation is the highest-collision-risk book yet run through this Vietnamese Language Package pipeline. Its apocalyptic-symbolic genre stages an entire alternate cosmology — thrones, a dragon, a beast, a book of life, a lake of fire, a bride, a new creation — that brushes directly against Vietnam’s dominant lived religious frameworks: Mahayana Pure Land Buddhism, ancestor veneration (thờ cúng tổ tiên), folk-Taoist underworld bureaucracy, and — uniquely — Vietnam’s own sacred national-origin dragon symbol. Where the Romans baseline needed to guard a comparatively contained set of soteriological terms, Revelation multiplies that risk surface across the whole book, with the core passage (21:1-8) sitting at the exact center of the single sharpest collision: God’s new creation descending to a renewed earth by grace, versus the Pure Land paradise reached through merit.

Key findings:

  • Full-book coverage confirms 22 chapters analyzed, none silently omitted; 18 chapters carry new doctrinal load requiring full translator/reviewer attention, 4 (chs. 10, 15, 16, 18) are logged as continuity chapters extending an already-analyzed doctrine.
  • The doctrine registry records 22 total doctrines: 12 Critical, 6 High, 4 Medium, 0 Low — requiring theologian review for 18 doctrines and native-speaker review for the remaining 4. Zero doctrines qualify for automated-only review, a marked shift from the Romans baseline’s three automated-only doctrines.
  • The term registry records approximately 110 tracked terms, of which 26 are Critical risk and 40 are High risk66 terms (60% of the glossary) require mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence, versus roughly 19 Critical/High terms in the Romans baseline.
  • One term — con rồng (the dragon, Satan’s identity in 12:9) — is assessed as the single highest-severity cultural-collision risk across both the Romans and Revelation packages combined, because it collides with Vietnam’s national founding legend (“Con Rồng cháu Tiên”) rather than merely a religious practice.
  • The core passage itself (New Heaven and New Earth, trời mới và đất mới / Giê-ru-sa-lem mới) is rated Critical and requires the same cross-document, verbatim consistency discipline the baseline applies to Romans 1:16-17, 8:28, and 10:9.

Risks:

  • Unnoticed silent conflation is a greater danger than obvious mistranslation in three clusters: (1) sách sự sống (book of life) vs. sổ sinh tử (karmic ledger); (2) Âm phủ/hồ lửa/sự chết thứ hai vs. the cyclical Buddhist-Taoist afterlife bureaucracy; (3) trời mới và đất mới vs. Tây Phương Cực Lạc (Pure Land) rebirth cosmology — all three offer a structurally similar-looking image that a translator could reach for out of habit without noticing the doctrinal reversal.
  • Emotionally potent secular overlap: chứng nhân (witness) and kẻ đắc thắng (overcomer) risk assimilation to state-venerated liệt sĩ (war martyr) culture and to Buddhist self-attained liberation, respectively — both intuitive misreadings precisely because they feel natural rather than foreign.
  • Family-structure overlap: cô dâu / tiệc cưới Chiên Con (Bride/marriage of the Lamb) risks being read through the lived Vietnamese bridal pattern of absorption into a husband’s ancestor-worship obligations, again because the wrong reading is culturally intuitive.
  • The worship-verb collision (“thờ” as the shared root of thờ phượng, thờ cúng tổ tiên, and thờ thần) touches nearly every chapter and requires sustained, not one-time, contextual anchoring.

Opportunities:

  • Revelation’s own internal structure — contrasting true worship of the Lamb with counterfeit worship of the beast (ch. 13 vs. chs. 4-5, 19), and true testimony with self-serving cowardice (21:8 vs. 12:11) — supplies built-in teaching assets that can turn several of the highest-risk terms into deliberate points of doctrinal contrast rather than passive translation liabilities.
  • The dragon collision, while severe, is textually self-resolving: 12:9 itself explicitly names the dragon as Satan, giving translators and teachers a source-text anchor for the mandatory teaching note rather than requiring one to be invented from outside the text.
  • The comparatively low-risk Medium-tier doctrines (Davidic covenant fulfillment, seven-church repentance calls, unity of the redeemed from every nation, heavenly worship/new song) can be routed to native-speaker review, freeing theologian review capacity for the 18 Critical/High doctrines that need it most.

Recommended actions:

  1. Load assets/translation_memory.json (Revelation) alongside the Romans baseline TM for every Phase 2 segment — never one without the other.
  2. Route all 18 theologian-review doctrines and all Critical/High terms through mandatory human theologian review before Step 17 sign-off, with Revelation 21:1-8 (the entire core passage) treated as theologian-review-by-default regardless of individual segment risk score.
  3. Enforce the eight terms requiring an always-on (not on-request) translator note — con rồng, sách sự sống, Âm phủ, hồ lửa, sự chết thứ hai, bảy Thánh Linh, cô dâu/tiệc cưới Chiên Con, and trời mới và đất mới/Giê-ru-sa-lem mới — as a standing Phase 2 validation gate, not a discretionary reviewer request.
  4. Apply the same verbatim, cross-document consistency discipline used for Romans 8:28/10:9 to Revelation’s parallel high-frequency doctrinal anchors: “Vua của các vua, Chúa của các chúa,” “Ta đến mau chóng,” “Lạy Đức Chúa Giê-xu, xin hãy đến!,” and “họ đã thắng nó bởi huyết Chiên Con và bởi lời chứng của mình.”
  5. Brief all Phase 2 human reviewers on the three “silent conflation” clusters (book of life/karmic ledger; Hades-lake of fire/cyclical hells; new creation/Pure Land) as a standing pre-review orientation, since these are assessed as higher-danger than the more visually obvious dragon collision precisely because they are less likely to be caught without deliberate training.

This summary reflects 11_doctrine_analysis.md, 04_comparative_theology.md, 06_linguistic_gap_analysis.md, 08_core_glossary.md, and assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json / assets/bible_term_registry.json, all produced under this Phase 1 Revelation curriculum run. It must be read as extending, and does not contradict, the Romans baseline package’s own executive summary and risk counts.
