Core Glossary

Core Glossary — Ephesians (Nepali)

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md across the whole of Ephesians (chapters 1–6), organized first by terms reused exactly from the Romans baseline, then by new Ephesians terms, grouped under the curriculum’s nine doctrines. Risk tiers (Critical/High/Medium/Low) follow the baseline’s definitions exactly. This glossary is a Phase 1 deliverable; it must be merged into translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json before Phase 2 segment translation begins, per the AI Translation Requirements’ “Translation Memory Load and Enforcement Instructions.”

Section A — Terms Reused Exactly from the Romans Baseline

These terms appear in Ephesians and MUST use the Nepali rendering already recorded in translation_memory.json. No new decision is required; they are listed here for completeness of coverage.

Section B — New Terms Introduced for the Ephesians Curriculum

Organized by the curriculum’s nine named doctrines. Each entry gives: Nepali rendering, transliteration, risk tier, rejected alternative(s), and grounding reason. All entries here should be added to translation_memory.json as new terms per the AI Translation Requirements’ onboarding procedure, with version increment and theologian-review flagging for every Critical/High entry.

1. Salvation by Grace through Faith

TermGreekNepaliTranslit.RiskRejected alternative(s)Reason
works (as basis, contrasted with grace)ἔργονकामkaamCriticalकर्मकर्म imports the Hindu/Buddhist karma-merit accounting system directly into the core passage’s central grace/works antithesis (Eph 2:9); risks either a libertinism misreading or reducing Paul’s positive grace-claim to a mere anti-karma philosophical statement.
good works (fruit, not basis)ἔργα ἀγαθάअसल कामasal kaamHighअसल कर्मMust use the SAME base noun (काम) as v.9’s excluded ἔργα so the deliberate before/after wordplay (excluded as ground → affirmed as fruit) is preserved across vv.9-10.
gift (of salvation)δῶρονउपहारupharMediumवरदान (alone)Must stay distinct from आत्मिक वरदान (spiritual_gifts); this is the gift of salvation itself, not a ministry ability.
mercyἔλεοςदयाdayaHighकृपा, अनुग्रहExtends the baseline’s existing अनुग्रह/कृपा distinction: कृपा is baseline-restricted to non-soteriological compassion, but ἔλεος here (Eph 2:4) IS soteriological, requiring a third, dedicated term — दया — distinct from both.
workmanship / creation (of God)ποίημαरचनाrachanaMediumEmphasizes believer as object, not agent, of the creative/saving act.
trespassπαράπτωμαअपराधaparadhMediumDistinct nuance from पाप (established sin): a concrete misstep vs. the general moral category.
age / this present ageαἰώνयुगyugHighसमय (weaker alt.)Collision with Hindu cyclical yuga cosmology; biblical usage is linear-historical (this age → the age to come), requiring a mandatory clarifying note each occurrence.
desire / lust (sinful)ἐπιθυμίαलालसाlalasaMediumवासनावासना carries a specific Hindu/Buddhist technical sense (latent karmic impression across lives) that would misdirect toward karma-mechanics rather than present moral culpability.
nature (by nature)φύσιςस्वभावswabhavMediumMust be taught as universal (applies equally to all humans regardless of birth/caste), not as caste-linked inherent jāti-svabhāva.
union with Christ (made alive/raised/seated together)συζωοποιέω / συνεγείρω / συγκαθίζωख्रीष्टसाथ जीवित/उठाइएको/बसाइएकोKhristsath…HighMust preserve distinct personhood of Christ and believer in relational union; must not read as monistic self-Brahman absorption.

2. Election and Predestination in Christ

TermGreekNepaliTranslit.RiskRejected alternative(s)Reason
predestined / foreordainedπροορίζωपूर्वनिर्धारण गर्नुpurvanirdharan garnuCriticalभाग्य, किस्मतThis is the curriculum’s named doctrine term; must never suggest impersonal fate or karmic determinism — this is a personal God’s loving, purposive prior decision (Eph 1:4-5, 1:11).
inheritanceκληρονομίαउत्तराधिकारuttaradhikarHighTies directly to adoption (baseline High); full, not partial, heirship.
purpose / counsel (of God’s will)πρόθεσις / βουλήयोजना / अभिप्रायyojana / abhiprayaMediumReinforces personal, purposive (not fatalistic) divine planning.
will (God’s)θέλημαइच्छाichchhaMediumHomonymy caution: same Nepali word also covers ἐπιθυμία’s negative “desires of the flesh” (Eph 2:3) — context must disambiguate; see Section D.
good pleasureεὐδοκίαमनपराइmanparaiLowThe warm, gracious (not arbitrary) motive behind election.
blessing / blessedεὐλογία / εὐλογητόςआशिष्ashishMediumआशीर्वादआशीर्वाद carries Nepali ritual weight (elder/guru blessing via foot-touching); आशिष् avoids this human-mediated-ritual association.
blamelessἄμωμοςदोषरहित / निष्खोटdoshrahit / nishkhotLow-MediumElection’s goal: moral blamelessness (1:4), reused 5:27.
heavenly placesἐπουράνιοςस्वर्गीय स्थानswargiya sthanHighHindu svarga is a temporary merit-realm one eventually falls from; NT usage is a secure, permanent position in Christ. Requires standing clarifying note.

3. The Church as the Body of Christ

TermGreekNepaliTranslit.RiskRejected alternative(s)Reason
headκεφαλήशिरshirHighटाउको (too colloquial)Risk of caste/patriarchal-domination misreading rather than self-giving, life-sustaining source-headship (Eph 1:22, 5:23, grounded by 5:25).
bodyσῶμαशरीरsharirMediumThe church as Christ’s organic corporate body (1:23, 2:16, 4:16, 4:25, 5:23, 5:30).
fullnessπλήρωμαपूर्णताpurnataHighCollision with Upanishadic pūrṇa (impersonal metaphysical totality); biblical usage is Christ’s personal, relational filling of his people.
gather together / sum up under one headἀνακεφαλαιόωसबैलाई एक शिरमा जोड्नुMedium-HighCosmic-scope headship doctrine (1:10), shares the κεφαλή root.
fellow heirs / same body / partakers of the promiseσυγκληρονόμος / σύσσωμος / συμμέτοχοςसहअधिकारी / एउटै शरीरका सदस्य / प्रतिज्ञामा सहभागीMediumGentiles are FULL, not partial, members — reinforces Doctrine 4 below.
dwelling placeκατοικητήριονबासस्थानbasasthanLowGod’s Spirit dwelling in the church corporately (2:22).
stewardship / administrationοἰκονομίαजिम्मेवारीjimmewariMediumपरमेश्वरको व्यवस्थापन (reserved)Must stay distinct from baseline’s providence term to preserve a doctrinal distinction already fixed for Romans 8:28.

4. Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity

TermGreekNepaliTranslit.RiskRejected alternative(s)Reason
dividing wallμεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦबीचको पर्खालbichko parkhalHighPrecise resonance with Nepal’s historically enforced caste-based physical separation (Muluki Ain, until 1963); the text’s claim that Christ breaks down this wall carries direct social-doctrinal weight.
one new man / humanityκαινὸς ἄνθρωπος (εἷς)एक नयाँ मानिसek naya manisHighMust convey a genuinely NEW single humanity, not a federation/alliance of previously separate groups (risk of caste-council misreading).
circumcision / uncircumcisionπεριτομή / ἀκροβυστίαखतना / खतनारहितLowEstablished Nepali Bible terms; no new collision.
far off / nearμακράν / ἐγγύςटाढा / नजिकLowSpatial covenantal-distance metaphor.
reconcileἀποκαταλλάσσωमिलाप गराउनुmilap garaunuMediumFull restoration of Jew/Gentile relationship to God and to each other.
accessπροσαγωγήपहुँचpahunchMediumDirect, unmediated access to the Father, contrasted with priestly-mediated ritual access models.
fellow citizens / household of Godσυμπολῖται / οἰκεῖοςसहनागरिक / परमेश्वरको घरपरिवारका सदस्यMedium / Low-MediumFull family-insider status for Gentiles, not second-class citizenship.
cornerstone / foundationἀκρογωνιαῖος / θεμέλιοςकुने ढुङ्गा / जगLowArchitectural unity metaphor.
holy temple (metaphor for the church)ναός (ἅγιος)पवित्र मन्दिर (metaphor only, mandatory note)pavitra mandirHighDeliberate, narrow exception to baseline’s general मन्दिर-avoidance rule for church; ναός is a different Greek word applied in an intentional biblical metaphor. Requires clarifying note every occurrence; flag for theologian review.
no respect of persons / partialityπροσωπολημψίαपक्षपात नगर्नेpakshapat nagarneMedium-HighGod levels master/slave, Jew/Gentile distinctions (6:9); reinforces caste-leveling theme.

5. The Mystery of Christ Revealed

TermGreekNepaliTranslit.RiskRejected alternative(s)Reason
mysteryμυστήριονरहस्यrahasyaHighCollision with Newar Tantric Buddhist/Hindu Tantric “secret, initiated-elite-only” esoteric-knowledge traditions centered in the Kathmandu Valley. Biblical μυστήριον is the OPPOSITE structure: formerly hidden, now openly and universally proclaimed (3:9-10, 6:19). Mandatory clarifying note every occurrence (1:9, 3:3-4, 3:6, 3:9, 5:32, 6:19).
revelationἀποκάλυψιςप्रकाशनprakashanMediumDisclosure of what was hidden; pairs with μυστήριον.
knowledge (full/precise, relational)ἐπίγνωσιςज्ञान / चिनजानgyan / chinjanHighज्ञान (unqualified)ज्ञान is the primary Hindu/Buddhist term for self-attained liberating knowledge (Jnana-marga, prajñā); Ephesians’ usage is revealed, relational, Spirit-given knowledge of a personal God, not self-attained gnosis. Use with mandatory clarifying note, or चिनजान in catechetical contexts.
enlightened (eyes of understanding)φωτίζωउज्यालो पार्नुujyalo parnuMedium-HighLight/enlightenment vocabulary requires the same caution as glory’s existing light-metaphor caution.
manifold wisdom / unsearchable richesπολυποίκιλος σοφία / ἀνεξιχνίαστος πλοῦτοςअनेकौं किसिमको बुद्धि / अगम्य धनLowबुद्धि here is the ordinary Nepali word for wisdom/intellect, not specifically Buddhist-loaded in everyday usage.
boldness / confidenceπαρρησία / πεποίθησιςनिर्धक्कता / भरोसाLowConfident access grounded in Christ, not self-attainment.

6. Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God

TermGreekNepaliTranslit.RiskRejected alternative(s)Reason
principalities / authorities / powers / dominion (all cosmic-rank terms)ἀρχή / ἐξουσία / δύναμις / κυριότηςअधिपति / अधिकार / सामर्थ्य / प्रभुत्वHigh (cluster)Every rendering must avoid शक्ति (baseline Critical prohibition for God’s power); consistent across 1:21, 3:10, 6:12.
power (stacked terms)δύναμις / ἐνέργεια / κράτος / ἰσχύςसामर्थ्य / प्रभावकारी काम / पराक्रम / बलHighशक्ति (for any of these)पराक्रम and बल are the recommended safe, non-शक्ति renderings for κράτος and ἰσχύς, consistent at both 1:19-20 and 6:10.
world-rulers (of this darkness)κοσμοκράτωρयस अन्धकारका (संसारका) शासकहरूMediumNT-unique term (Eph 6:12 only); cosmic ruler title for hostile powers.
spiritual forces of evilπνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίαςदुष्ट आत्मिक शक्तिहरूdushta atmik shaktiharuHighNarrow, explained exception to शक्ति-avoidance: here शक्ति names a HOSTILE force to be resisted, not God’s power to be invoked — must be taught so it is never mistaken for a legitimate power source. Flag for theologian review.
whole armor of Godπανοπलिया τοῦ θεοῦपरमेश्वरका सम्पूर्ण हातहतियारMediumDefensive, metaphorical military imagery; must not read as literal-violence endorsement.
devil / wilesδιάβολος / μεθοδείαशैतान / चालबाजीLowEstablished terms; the personal, real spiritual adversary and his deceptive strategy.
wrestle / struggleπάληलडाइँ / मुष्टि सङ्घर्षHighThe qualifier “not against flesh and blood” is doctrinally essential and must never be dropped; risk of literal-conflict misapplication given Nepal’s religious-conversion legal sensitivities — route to the same review tier as evangelism (baseline High).
breastplate of righteousness / shoes of the gospel of peace / shield of faith / helmet of salvation / sword of the Spiritθώραξ τῆς δικαιοσύνης, κτλ.धार्मिकताको छाती-ढाल, शान्तिको सुसमाचारका जुत्ता, विश्वासको ढाल, उद्धारको टोप, आत्माको तरवारHigh/Critical (aggregate)Each armor-piece genitive reuses an existing Critical/High baseline term (righteousness, gospel, peace, faith, salvation); no new decision needed for those roots, but the compound phrases should be fixed and used consistently.
stand / stand againstἵστημι / ἀνθίστημιखडा हुनु / प्रतिरोध गर्नुLowDefensive, not offensive, posture — reinforces the “not against flesh and blood” framing.

7. Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships

TermGreekNepaliTranslit.RiskRejected alternative(s)Reason
submit (to one another / wives to husbands)ὑποτάσσωअधीनमा रहनुadhinma rahanuHighMust convey voluntary, Christ-modeled, MUTUAL (5:21) submission — never caste- or gender-based forced subordination; must be distinguished from the cosmic-victory sense of the same verb at 1:22.
head (of the wife)κεφαλήशिरshirHighSame term as Doctrine 3’s ecclesial headship; here interpreted through 5:25’s self-sacrificial love, never domination.
love (husbands for wives, Christ for church)ἀγαπάω / ἀγάπηप्रेमpremMediumMust carry the self-giving, sacrificial sense (5:25), not romantic/emotional love alone.
slaves / servantsδοῦλοςदासdasHighनोकर (softer, but loses first-century force)Nepal abolished its own bonded-labor systems (kamaiya 2000, haliya 2008) within living memory; teaching must frame Paul as relativizing, not endorsing, an existing social institution.
masters (human)κύριος (human sense)मालिकmalikHighप्रभु (reserved for Christ)Deliberate divergence from baseline’s lord=प्रभु (reserved exclusively for Christ’s Lordship) to avoid blurring that Critical Christological distinction; accepts the loss of Paul’s 6:9 Greek wordplay. Flag for theologian review.
honor / obey (parents)τιμάω / ὑπακούωआदर गर्नु / आज्ञा पालन गर्नुLow-MediumOrdinary filial duty; distinguish from the specifically faith-flowing obedience_of_faith category.
not with eyeserviceὀφθαλμοδουλίαदेखाउनका लागि मात्र गरिने सेवाLowExternal performance vs. genuine heart-motive.
rewardμισθόςइनाम / ज्यालाLow-MediumMust not be read as merit establishing standing before God; this is generous recompense to those already saved by grace.
sanctify / cleanse by washing of water with the wordἁγιάζω / καθαρίζω / λουτρόνपवित्र पार्नु / शुद्ध पार्नु / धुने कार्यMediumTextually-warranted, controlled use of शुद्ध पार्नु specific to this verse’s washing imagery; not a general substitute for sanctification elsewhere.
one fleshμία σάρξएउटै शरीरLowMarriage union, quoting Genesis 2:24.

8. Gifts for Building Up the Church

TermGreekNepaliTranslit.RiskRejected alternative(s)Reason
unity of the Spiritἑνότης τοῦ πνεύματοςआत्माको एकताatmako ekataMedium-HighA given reality to be kept, not an aspirational federation to be negotiated.
bond of peaceσύνδεσμος τῆς εἰρήνηςशान्तिको बन्धनLowReuses established शान्ति root.
gift(s) (ascension-gifts, offices)δόμα / δωρεάवरदान / उपहारMediumDistinct from general spiritual-ability χάρισμα (Romans 12:6-8); connect to established आत्मिक वरदान for consistency, note office/person distinction.
evangelistεὐαγγελιστήςसुसमाचार प्रचारकsusamachar pracharakLow-MediumCompound of two already-established roots.
pastor / shepherdποιμήνगोठालाgothalaMediumपास्टर (colloquial loanword)Preserves biblical shepherd-imagery link (cf. “Good Shepherd” = असल गोठाला); avoids losing Paul’s intended metaphor to a modern loanword.
teacherδιδάσκαλοςशिक्षकshikshakLowStandard term.
equip / equippingκαταρτισμόςसुसज्जित पार्ने काम / तयार पार्नुLowPreparation for ministry task.
mature / complete manτέλειος ἀνήρपरिपक्व मानिसparipakwa manisHigh — forbidden substitutionसिद्ध मानिस (FORBIDDEN)सिद्ध names a Tantric/yogic adept who has attained supernatural perfection (siddhi) through esoteric discipline — recasts Spirit-given corporate maturity as a self-attained tantric accomplishment. सिद्ध must be added to the project’s forbidden-substitution list (see Section C).
grow up / build up / edifyαὐξάνω / οἰκοδομήबढ्नु / आपसी वृद्धिLowMatches baseline’s established mutual_edification.
speaking truth in loveἀληθεύω ἐν ἀγάπῃप्रेमसाथ सत्य बोलेरLowGrowth-method for the body.
measure (of grace given)μέτρονनाप / परिमाणLowChrist-apportioned, not self-chosen, gifting.

9. Walking in Newness of Life

TermGreekNepaliTranslit.RiskRejected alternative(s)Reason
walk (conduct of life)περιπατέωहिँड्नु / चालचलन गर्नुhidnu / chalchalan garnuMedium-HighMust not read as a self-directed dharmic life-path/duty-performance; conduct FLOWS FROM grace-given new identity (Eph 2:2 before → 2:10, 4:1, 4:17, 5:2, 5:8, 5:15 after).
old man / new manπαλαιὸς ἄνθρωπος / καινὸς ἄνθρωποςपुरानो मानिस / नयाँ मानिसMediumThe doctrinal center of this curriculum unit (4:22-24); reused from the corporate sense at 2:15.
renewed (in spirit of mind)ἀνανεόω / ἀνακαινόωनवीकरण गर्नुnavikaran garnuMediumMust NEVER use any पुनर्जन्म-adjacent phrasing; this is continuous inward renewal of the SAME person, not rebirth/reincarnation.
put off / put onἀποτίθημι / ἐνδύωफ्याँक्नु / धारण गर्नु, लगाउनुLowShared clothing-imagery verb (ἐνδύω) links this doctrine to the “armor of God” doctrine at 6:11 — note the cross-doctrinal link.
corruptφθείρωबिग्रनु / भ्रष्ट हुनुLowThe old man’s moral trajectory.
grieve (the Holy Spirit)λυπέωदुःखी बनाउनुLow-MediumReinforces the Holy Spirit’s personhood (cf. baseline Critical caution against ब्रह्म/परमात्मा).
children of light / of disobedienceτέκνα φωτός / τέκνα ἀπειθείαςउज्यालोका सन्तान (preferred) / अनाज्ञाकारिताका सन्तानujyaloka santanMedium-Highज्योतिका सन्तान (secondary; use with caution)ज्योति evokes ritual lamps (diyo) and the Tihar/Dipawali festival of lights; उज्यालो (brightness) is a lower-risk alternative for the moral-relational transformation Paul intends.
fruit (of the Spirit/light)καρπόςफलLowOutcome flowing from the Spirit, not self-generated effort.
redeeming the timeἐξαγοράζω τὸν καιρόνसमयलाई सदुपयोग गर्नुLowWise, urgent use of a limited window.
be filled with the Spiritπληρόω (verb)पवित्र आत्माले भरिनुMediumDistinct from the noun πλήρωμα (High risk, Doctrine 3); lower-intensity residual pūrṇa-association caution still applies.
psalms, hymns, spiritual songsψαλμοί, ὕμνοι, ᾠδαὶ πνευματικαίभजन, स्तुति-गीत, आत्मिक गीतMediumभजन is already a successfully domesticated Nepali Christian term (cf. baseline’s भजनसंग्रह = Psalms); lower residual risk than most Section B entries.
idolaterεἰδωλολάτρηςमूर्तिपूजकmurtipujakHighNames mainstream Hindu/Buddhist devotional practice directly; requires careful pastoral framing as a diagnosis of covetousness, not an ethnographic condemnation. Mandatory native-speaker/theologian review of teaching tone.
fornication / uncleanness / covetousnessπορνεία / ἀκαθαρσία / πλεονεξίαव्यभिचार / अशुद्धता / लोभLowStandard vice-list vocabulary.
offering and sacrificeπροσφορὰ καὶ θυσίαबलिदान / भेटीLow-MediumAlready-domesticated Old Testament sacrificial vocabulary.
present (the church) without blemishπαρίστημι + ἄμωμοςप्रस्तुत गर्नु + दोषरहितLowEchoes 1:4’s election-unto-blamelessness goal.
incorruption / immortalityἀφθαρσίαअविनाशीताavinashitaMediumA gift secured through Christ’s resurrection, not an innate property of an eternally pre-existing soul (contra Vedantic ātman doctrine).

Section C — New Forbidden Substitutions (Ephesians-specific additions)

These extend the baseline’s existing forbidden-substitution list (12_ai_translation_requirements.md) and MUST be enforced identically in Phase 2:

ConceptNEVER useALWAYS use insteadReason
Works (contrasted with grace, Eph 2:9-10)कर्मकामImports karma-merit accounting into the core passage’s central grace/works antithesis.
Mature/complete man (Eph 4:13)सिद्ध / सिद्ध मानिसपरिपक्व / परिपक्व मानिससिद्ध names a Tantric/yogic adept who attains supernatural perfection through esoteric discipline.
Lordship applied to a human master (Eph 6:5, 6:9)प्रभु (for the human “master”)मालिकप्रभु is baseline-Critical and reserved exclusively for Christ’s supreme Lordship; using it for a human slave-owner would blur that distinction.
Desire/craving (sinful, Eph 2:3)वासनालालसावासना is a technical Hindu/Buddhist term for karmic impressions carried across lives; risks a karma-mechanics misreading.
Church-as-temple metaphor (Eph 2:21) — general caution, not outright forbiddenमन्दिर (WITHOUT a mandatory clarifying note)पवित्र मन्दिर + mandatory clarifying noteNarrow, explained exception to the baseline’s मन्दिर-avoidance rule for church; must never be used unqualified.

Section D — Terminological Collision Cross-References (flag for Phase 2 reviewer attention)

  1. θέλημα (“will,” positive, divine) vs. ἐπιθυμία (“desire/lust,” negative, human) — both risk collapsing to इच्छा in casual translation. This glossary fixes θέλημα = इच्छा and ἐπιθυμία = लालसा to keep them distinct (Eph 1:5/1:9/1:11 vs. 2:3).
  2. κύριος (human “master,” Eph 6:5/6:9) vs. κύριος (divine “Lord,” throughout) — same Greek word, must render as मालिक (human) vs. प्रभु (divine) respectively, accepting the loss of Paul’s deliberate 6:9 wordplay to preserve the baseline’s Critical Christological reservation of प्रभु.
  3. ὑποτάσσω (“subject/submit”) — used in a triumphant COSMIC sense at 1:22 (hostile powers subjected to the exalted Christ) and in a relational, VOLUNTARY sense at 5:21-6:9 (household codes). Both may render as अधीनमा राखिनु/रहनु, but teaching notes must distinguish the two senses explicitly.
  4. οἰκονομία (“stewardship/administration,” Eph 3:2/3:9) vs. the baseline’s providence (परमेश्वरको व्यवस्थापन) — different Greek concepts; this glossary assigns οἰκονομία = जिम्मेवारी to avoid collapsing the two into one Nepali phrase.
  5. ἔλεος (“mercy”) vs. χάρις (“grace”) vs. the baseline’s restricted κृपा — this glossary establishes a clean three-way split: अनुग्रह (grace/χάρις), दया (mercy/ἔλεος, including soteriological contexts), कृपा (general non-soteriological compassion only, per baseline).
  6. πλήρωμα (“fullness,” noun, High risk) vs. πληρόω (“be filled,” verb, Medium risk) — related but not identical risk profiles; the verb form (5:18, everyday “be filled with the Spirit”) carries a lower-intensity version of the noun’s Upanishadic-pūrṇa collision risk (1:23, 3:19, 4:13).
  7. ἔργον in Eph 2:9 (excluded as basis) vs. Eph 2:10 (affirmed as fruit) — both must use the SAME Nepali noun (काम) so the deliberate Pauline wordplay survives translation; using two unrelated Nepali words here would sever the passage’s argument.

Coverage confirmation

This glossary draws terms from every chapter of Ephesians (1–6), cross-referenced against analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md. All Section A terms reuse the Romans baseline exactly, with zero deviation. All Section B terms are new to this curriculum and are recommended for addition to translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json prior to Phase 2, with Critical/High entries flagged for mandatory human theologian review per the existing doctrine_risk_registry.json routing convention.

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER भगवान. Used throughout Ephesians.

Transliteration: Pavitra Atma
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ब्रह्म, परमात्मा
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον / τὸ πνεῦμα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER ब्रह्म/परमात्मा. Ephesians: 1:13-14 (seal and guarantee), 4:30 (can be grieved — see new ‘grieve_the_spirit’ entry, reinforcing personhood), 5:18 (filled with the Spirit), 6:17-18.

Father

Approved rendering: पिता
Transliteration: Pita
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: 1:2-3, 1:17, 2:18, 3:14-15, 4:6, 6:23.

Jesus

Transliteration: Yeshu
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout Ephesians, frequently in the compound ‘in Christ Jesus.‘

Christ

Approved rendering: ख्रीष्ट
Transliteration: Khrist
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology

New formal registry entry for the Ephesians curriculum, though already the established Nepali Bible transliteration form per the baseline’s proper-noun table. Distinct from, but paired with, मसीह (baseline messiah). Ephesians’ central ‘in Christ’ / ‘in Christ Jesus’ union-formula (1:1, 1:3, 1:10, 1:12, 1:20, 2:6-7, 2:10, 2:13, 3:6, 3:11, 3:21, and throughout) occurs far more densely than in Romans; consistency of this rendering across the whole book is essential.

Works

Approved rendering: काम
Transliteration: kaam
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: कर्म
Original: ἔργον
Category: Salvation

NEW — highest-stakes new term in this curriculum. NEVER कर्म. Ephesians 2:9’s central grace/works antithesis. कर्म imports the Hindu/Buddhist karma-merit accounting system, risking either a libertinism misreading or reducing Paul’s positive grace-claim to a mere anti-karma philosophical statement. काम (ordinary, doctrinally unloaded ‘work/deed’) is required. Same noun reused positively at 2:10 as the base of ‘good_works’ to preserve Paul’s deliberate wordplay.

Predestined

Approved rendering: पूर्वनिर्धारण गर्नु
Transliteration: purvanirdharan garnu
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, किस्मत
Original: προορίζω
Category: Election

NEW — this curriculum’s flagship named-doctrine term, never isolated in the Romans baseline. Ephesians 1:5, 1:11. Must never suggest भाग्य/किस्मत or the mechanistic unfolding of karma. This is a personal God’s loving, purposive prior decision, made ‘in love’ (1:4-5), not blind cosmic determinism.

Helmet Of Salvation

Approved rendering: उद्धारको टोप
Transliteration: uddharko top
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: περικεφαλαία τοῦ σωτηρίου
Category: Spiritual Warfare

NEW fixed compound. Ephesians 6:17. Reuses उद्धार exactly, carrying the same Critical dual-front मुक्ति/मोक्ष/निर्वाण prohibition; fixed rendering required for cross-document consistency.

High Risk Terms

Gospel

Approved rendering: सुसमाचार
Transliteration: susamachar
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: खुशखबरी
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians occurrences: 1:13, 3:6, 6:15, 6:19. Must be distinguished from generic good news; the unique proclamation of salvation through Christ crucified and risen.

Grace

Approved rendering: अनुग्रह
Transliteration: anugraha
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: कृपा, पुण्य, भाग्य
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Called

Approved rendering: बोलाइएका
Transliteration: bolaieka

Transliteration: pavitrikaran
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: शुद्धीकरण
Original: ἁγιασμός / ἁγιάζω
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: implied at 5:26 (Christ sanctifies the church); default rendering except the narrow, verse-specific washing-imagery exception at 5:26 (see sanctify_by_washing).

Adoption

Approved rendering: दत्तक पुत्रता
Transliteration: dattak putrata
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: धर्मपुत्र बनाउने, गोद लिने
Original: υἱοθεσία
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: 1:5.

Law

Approved rendering: व्यवस्था
Transliteration: vyavastha
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, नियम
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER धर्म. Ephesians: 2:15 — the law’s ethnic dividing function is nullified in Christ, without abolishing moral law generally.

Sin

Approved rendering: पाप
Transliteration: paap
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: अकुशल कर्म
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: 2:1, paired with the new term ‘trespass’ (अपराध) for rhetorical fullness.

Glory

Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mahima
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: तेज
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: 1:6, 1:12, 1:14, 1:17, 3:13, 3:16, 3:21. Cross-reference the new ‘enlightened’ and ‘children_of_light’ entries for related light-metaphor caution.

Power Of God

Approved rendering: परमेश्वरको सामर्थ्य
Transliteration: Parameshwarko samarthya
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: शक्ति
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER शक्ति for God’s power. Ephesians: 1:19, 3:7, 3:20, 6:10. See new ‘cosmic_powers’ and ‘might_and_strength’ entries for the stacked-terms cluster, and ‘spiritual_forces_of_evil’ for the sole narrow exception permitting शक्ति for HOSTILE forces only.

Covenant

Approved rendering: करार
Transliteration: karar
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: सम्झौता
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: 2:12, ‘covenants of promise’ from which Gentiles were formerly excluded.

Election

Approved rendering: परमेश्वरको छनोट
Transliteration: Parameshwarko chhanot
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, किस्मत
Original: ἐκλέγομαι / ἐκλογή
Category: Election

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: 1:4, ‘chose us in him before the foundation of the world.’ Paired with the NEW term ‘predestined’ (पूर्वनिर्धारण गर्नु), which the Romans baseline never isolated.

Good Works

Approved rendering: असल काम
Transliteration: asal kaam
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: असल कर्म
Original: ἔργα ἀγαθά
Category: Salvation

NEW. Ephesians 2:10, the God-prepared fruit and purpose of salvation, not its ground. Must use the SAME base noun as ‘works’ (काम, never कर्म) so the before/after wordplay across 2:9-2:10 survives translation.

Mercy

Approved rendering: दया
Transliteration: daya
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: कृपा, अनुग्रह
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Salvation

NEW. Ephesians 2:4. Establishes दया as a dedicated third term, distinct from both अनुग्रह (grace/χάρις) and the baseline’s restricted, non-soteriological कृपा. ἔλεος here IS soteriological, requiring this new fixed rendering. Should also be applied when harmonizing Romans 9:15-18 and 11:30-32 in future updates.

Age

Approved rendering: युग
Transliteration: yug
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: समय (weaker alternative)
Original: αἰών
Category: Eschatology

NEW. Ephesians 2:2 (‘course of this world’), 2:7, 3:9, 3:11, 3:21. युग is the operative word of Hindu yuga cosmology’s repeating cosmic cycle. No safe substitute fully avoids the word; MANDATORY clarifying note required at every occurrence establishing the LINEAR biblical frame — this present evil age decisively overtaken by the age inaugurated in Christ, never a repeating cycle.

Made Alive With Christ

Approved rendering: ख्रीष्टसाथ जीवित बनाइनु
Transliteration: Khristsath jivit banainu
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: συζωοποιέω
Category: Salvation

NEW. Ephesians 2:5 (συζωοποιέω). Must not read as a monistic self-Brahman merger (Advaita Vedanta ātman-Brahman absorption); biblical union with Christ preserves the distinct personhood of both Christ and the believer.

Raised With Christ

Approved rendering: ख्रीष्टसाथ उठाइनु
Transliteration: Khristsath uthainu
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: συνεγείρω
Category: Salvation

NEW. Ephesians 2:6 (συνεγείρω), built on पुनरुत्थान’s established root. Positional/spiritual co-resurrection anticipating the future bodily resurrection; must never suggest a second, present, personal bodily resurrection.

Seated With Christ

Approved rendering: ख्रीष्टसाथ बसाइनु
Transliteration: Khristsath basainu
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: συγκαθίζω
Category: Salvation

NEW. Ephesians 2:6 (συγκαθίζω). Secure, honored, already-granted status in Christ; must not be flattened into a self-attained yogic/tantric elevated spiritual state.

Inheritance

Approved rendering: उत्तराधिकार
Transliteration: uttaradhikar
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Election

NEW. Ephesians 1:11, 1:14, 1:18. Tied to दत्तक पुत्रता (adoption) — full, not partial or provisional, heirship.

Heavenly Places

Approved rendering: स्वर्गीय स्थान
Transliteration: swargiya sthan
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: ἐπουράνιος
Category: Election

NEW. Ephesians 1:3, 1:20, 2:6, 3:10, 6:12. Hindu svarga is a TEMPORARY merit-realm from which one eventually falls back into the rebirth cycle; biblical ἐπουράνιος is a secure, permanent, already-and-not-yet position in Christ (and, at 6:12, the site of contested spiritual conflict). Requires a standing clarifying note at every occurrence.

Approved rendering: शिर
Transliteration: shir
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: टाउको
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Church

NEW. Ephesians 1:22 (Christ over the church), 4:15, 5:23 (husband over wife). Risk of misreading through Nepal’s historically hierarchical, caste- and patriarchy-inflected social structures as domination/rank rather than the self-giving, life-sustaining source-relationship modeled at 5:25, 5:29. Requires careful catechetical framing at every occurrence.

Fullness

Approved rendering: पूर्णता
Transliteration: purnata
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Church

NEW. Ephesians 1:23, 3:19, 4:13. Collision risk with the Upanishadic pūrṇa concept (Brahman as an impersonal, self-sufficient totality). Biblical πλήρωμα is Christ’s personal, relational filling of his people — mandatory clarifying note required.

Sum Up In Christ

Approved rendering: सबैलाई एक शिरमा जोड्नु
Transliteration: sabailai ek shirma jodnu
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: ἀνακεφαλαιόω
Category: Church

NEW. Ephesians 1:10 (ἀνακεφαλαιόω). Shares the κεφαλή (head) root; foundational to the cosmic scope of Christ’s headship over all things.

Dividing Wall

Approved rendering: बीचको पर्खाल
Transliteration: bichko parkhal
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ
Category: Unity

NEW. Ephesians 2:14 (μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ). Maps with unusual precision onto Nepal’s own history of physically enforced caste separation, formalized in the Muluki Ain until 1963. Christ BREAKS DOWN, not merely tolerates, every such barrier.

One New Humanity

Approved rendering: एक नयाँ मानिस
Transliteration: ek naya manis
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: καινὸς ἄνθρωπος (εἷς)
Category: Unity

NEW. Ephesians 2:15 (καινὸς ἄνθρωπος, εἷς). Must convey a genuinely NEW single humanity, not a federation/alliance of previously separate groups (risk of a caste-council or ethnic-federation misreading).

Holy Temple Metaphor

Approved rendering: पवित्र मन्दिर
Transliteration: pavitra mandir
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: मन्दिर (unqualified, forbidden without note)
Original: ναὸς ἅγιος
Category: Unity

NEW — deliberate, narrow exception. Ephesians 2:21 (ναὸς ἅγιος, a DIFFERENT Greek word from ἐκκλησία). The general baseline rule forbidding मन्दिर for church stands; this exception applies ONLY when ναός is used metaphorically for the church, and REQUIRES a mandatory clarifying note every occurrence that this describes God’s spiritual dwelling among his people, not a physical shrine. Flag for theologian review at every occurrence.

Impartiality

Approved rendering: पक्षपात नगर्ने
Transliteration: pakshapat nagarne
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: προσωπολημψία
Category: Unity

NEW. Ephesians 6:9 (προσωπολημψία). God shows no favoritism between master and slave — reinforces caste-leveling themes already established as High-risk in the Romans baseline (universal_human_accountability, unity_of_jews_and_gentiles).

Mystery

Approved rendering: रहस्य
Transliteration: rahasya
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: गुप्त ज्ञान
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Mystery

NEW — this curriculum’s flagship named-doctrine term. Ephesians 1:9, 3:3-4, 3:6, 3:9, 5:32, 6:19. Collides with Newar Tantric Buddhist and Hindu Tantric traditions where esoteric mysteries are reserved for an initiated elite. Biblical μυστήριον is the OPPOSITE structure: formerly hidden, now proclaimed openly to ALL. MANDATORY clarifying note at every occurrence.

Knowledge Of Christ

Approved rendering: ज्ञान
Transliteration: gyan
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: ज्ञान (unqualified, without note)
Original: ἐπίγνωσις
Category: Mystery

NEW. Ephesians 1:17, 4:13 (‘knowledge of the Son of God’), ἐπίγνωσις. ज्ञान is the primary Hindu/Buddhist term for self-attained liberating knowledge (jñāna-mārga, prajñā). Ephesians’ usage is REVEALED, RELATIONAL knowledge of a personal God, granted by the Spirit, never self-attained gnosis. Use with mandatory clarifying note; चिनजान is the lower-risk catechetical alternative.

Enlightened

Approved rendering: उज्यालो पार्नु
Transliteration: ujyalo parnu
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: φωτίζω
Category: Mystery

NEW. Ephesians 1:18, 3:9 (φωτίζω). Light/enlightenment vocabulary requires the same caution as glory’s existing light-metaphor caution; cross-reference ‘children_of_light’ (5:8).

Cosmic Powers

Approved rendering: अधिपति / अधिकार / सामर्थ्य / प्रभुत्व
Transliteration: adhipati / adhikar / samarthya / prabhutva
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: शक्ति (for any of these)
Original: ἀρχή / ἐξουσία / δύναμις / κυριότης
Category: Spiritual Warfare

NEW. Ephesians 1:21, 3:10, 6:12 (ἀρχή/ἐξουσία/δύναμις/κυριότης). Every rendering must avoid शक्ति (baseline Critical prohibition for God’s power).

Might And Strength

Approved rendering: पराक्रम / बल
Transliteration: parakram / bal
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: शक्ति
Original: κράτος / ἰσχύς
Category: Spiritual Warfare

NEW. Ephesians 1:19-20 and 6:10 (‘the power of his might,’ κράτος/ἰσχύς), rendered consistently in both places as safe, non-शक्ति terms.

Spiritual Forces Of Evil

Approved rendering: दुष्ट आत्मिक शक्तिहरू
Transliteration: dushta atmik shaktiharu
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας
Category: Spiritual Warfare

NEW — the ONE place in this curriculum where शक्ति is permitted, since it names a HOSTILE, OPPOSED force (6:12), not God’s own power. Nonetheless flag for mandatory theologian review: must always be taught as the enemy to be resisted through God’s सामर्थ्य and armor, never a legitimate power source to be invoked or appeased, given the Newar Tantric Shakta/Kumari-cult association.

Wrestle Not Against Flesh

Approved rendering: लडाइँ (शरीरविरुद्ध होइन)
Transliteration: ladai (sharirviruddha hoina)
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: πάλη πρὸς αἷμα καὶ σάρκα
Category: Spiritual Warfare

NEW. Ephesians 6:12 (πάλη). The ‘not against flesh and blood’ qualifier is doctrinally load-bearing and must NEVER be dropped — risk of the passage being misread as authorizing confrontational conduct toward flesh-and-blood religious opponents, given Nepal’s communal-religious sensitivities and legal restrictions on conversion. Route to the same review tier as evangelism.

Breastplate Of Righteousness

Approved rendering: धार्मिकताको छाती-ढाल
Transliteration: dharmiktako chhati-dhal
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: θώραξ τῆς δικαιοσύνης
Category: Spiritual Warfare

NEW fixed compound. Ephesians 6:14. Reuses the baseline Critical righteousness term (धार्मिकता) exactly; fixed rendering required for cross-document consistency.

Shoes Of Gospel Of Peace

Approved rendering: शान्तिको सुसमाचारका जुत्ता
Transliteration: shantiko susamacharka jutta
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: ὑπόδημα εὐαγγελίου τῆς εἰρήνης
Category: Spiritual Warfare

NEW fixed compound. Ephesians 6:15. Reuses सुसमाचार and शान्ति exactly; fixed rendering required for cross-document consistency.

Shield Of Faith

Approved rendering: विश्वासको ढाल
Transliteration: vishwasko dhal
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: θυρεὸς τῆς πίστεως
Category: Spiritual Warfare

NEW fixed compound. Ephesians 6:16. Reuses विश्वास exactly; fixed rendering required for cross-document consistency.

Submit To One Another

Approved rendering: अधीनमा रहनु
Transliteration: adhinma rahanu
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: ὑποτάσσω
Category: Household

NEW. Ephesians 5:21 (mutual, governing principle) and 5:22 (wife-specific application). Must convey voluntary, Christ-modeled, MUTUAL submission — never caste- or gender-based forced subordination — and must be distinguished from the DIFFERENT, cosmic-victory sense of ὑποτάσσω at 1:22.

Slaves

Approved rendering: दास
Transliteration: das
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Rejected alternatives: नोकर
Original: δοῦλος
Category: Household

NEW. Ephesians 6:5-8 (δοῦλος). Nepal abolished its own bonded-labor systems within living memory (kamaiya, 2000; haliya, 2008); teaching must frame Paul as relativizing, not endorsing, an existing first-century institution.

Masters

Approved rendering: मालिक
Transliteration: malik
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Rejected alternatives: प्रभु (reserved exclusively for Christ)
Original: κύριος (human-master sense)
Category: Household

NEW — deliberate split decision. Ephesians 6:5, 6:9. κύριος’s human-master sense must render मालिक, never प्रभु, to preserve the baseline’s Critical reservation of प्रभु exclusively for Christ. Accepts loss of Paul’s Greek wordplay at 6:9. Flag for mandatory theologian review.

Unity Of The Spirit

Approved rendering: आत्माको एकता
Transliteration: atmako ekata
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Original: ἑνότης τοῦ πνεύματος
Category: Church

NEW. Ephesians 4:3 (ἑνότης τοῦ πνεύματος). Must convey a GIVEN, Spirit-created unity to be diligently kept, not an aspirational federation to be negotiated among factions — directly relevant to Nepal’s caste-fragmented social history.

Mature Man

Approved rendering: परिपक्व मानिस
Transliteration: paripakwa manis
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: सिद्ध मानिस (FORBIDDEN)
Original: τέλειος ἀνήρ
Category: Church

NEW — forbidden substitution. Ephesians 4:13 (τέλειος ἀνήρ). सिद्ध names a Tantric/yogic adept who attains supernatural perfection (siddhi) through esoteric discipline; using it would recast Spirit-given corporate maturity as a self-attained tantric accomplishment. परिपक्व मानिस is required.

Walk

Approved rendering: हिँड्नु / चालचलन गर्नु
Transliteration: hidnu / chalchalan garnu
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: περιπατέω
Category: Sanctification

NEW — this curriculum’s flagship named-doctrine term (περιπατέω). Ephesians 2:2 (before), 2:10, 4:1, 4:17, 5:2, 5:8, 5:15 (after) — a deliberate inclusio. Because व्यवस्था/धर्म carry ‘path/way of duty’ connotations, चालचलन must be anchored consistently to identity FLOWING FROM grace, never a self-directed dharma-marga or duty-performance.

Children Of Light

Approved rendering: उज्यालोका सन्तान
Transliteration: ujyaloka santan
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Rejected alternatives: ज्योतिका सन्तान (secondary, use with caution)
Original: τέκνα φωτός
Category: Sanctification

NEW. Ephesians 5:8 (τέκνα φωτός), Hebraic idiom. Recommend उज्यालोका सन्तान over ज्योतिका सन्तान: ज्योति evokes ritual lamps (diyo) and the Tihar/Dipawali festival of lights, risking a devotional-ritual frame rather than moral-relational transformation.

Idolater

Approved rendering: मूर्तिपूजक
Transliteration: murtipujak
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: εἰδωλολάτρης
Category: Sin

NEW. Ephesians 5:5 (εἰδωλολάτρης). Names mainstream, widely-honored Hindu/Buddhist devotional image-veneration practice directly. Must be taught as diagnosing covetousness as a spiritual condition, NOT an ethnographic condemnation of neighbors’ religious practice. Mandatory theologian/native-speaker review of teaching tone.

Medium Risk Terms

Approved rendering: प्रेरित
Transliteration: prerit
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: दूत
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: 1:1, 2:20, 3:5, 4:11.

Approved rendering: शान्ति
Transliteration: shanti

Spiritual Gifts

Approved rendering: आत्मिक वरदान
Transliteration: atmik varadan
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: वरदान (alone)
Original: χαρίσματα
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Distinct from the ascension-gift OFFICES (δόμα/δωρεά, see ‘ascension_gifts’) introduced newly in Ephesians 4:8-11 — do not collapse the two categories.

Church

Approved rendering: मण्डली
Transliteration: mandali
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: मन्दिर, गुम्बा
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER मन्दिर/गुम्बा for ἐκκλησία. Ephesians: 1:22, 3:10, 3:21, 5:23-32. See the single narrow, explicitly-noted exception ‘holy_temple_metaphor’ for the DIFFERENT Greek word ναός at 2:21.

Kingdom Of God

Approved rendering: परमेश्वरको राज्य
Transliteration: Parameshwarko Rajya
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: 5:5.

Gentiles

Approved rendering: अन्यजाति
Transliteration: anyajati
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: विदेशी
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians: 2:11, 3:1, 3:6, 4:17.

Intercession

Approved rendering: मध्यस्थता
Transliteration: madhyasthata

Gift Of Salvation

Approved rendering: उपहार
Transliteration: uphar
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: वरदान (alone)
Original: δῶρον
Category: Salvation

NEW. Ephesians 2:8. Salvation itself as God’s freely given gift, not a reward. Must be kept distinct from आत्मिक वरदान (spiritual_gifts) and from the office-gifts ‘ascension_gifts.‘

Workmanship

Approved rendering: रचना
Transliteration: rachana
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ποίημα
Category: Salvation

NEW. Ephesians 2:10. Believers as God’s creative product — the OBJECT of God’s saving action, not a co-agent contributing effort, reinforcing v.9’s exclusion of works as basis.

Trespass

Approved rendering: अपराध
Transliteration: aparadh
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: παράπτωμα
Category: Sin

NEW. Ephesians 2:1, 2:5. Paired with पाप (sin) for rhetorical fullness — total, not partial, sinfulness. Keep distinct in register: अपराध denotes a concrete offense/misstep, पाप the general moral category.

Desire

Approved rendering: लालसा
Transliteration: lalasa
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: वासना
Original: ἐπιθυμία
Category: Sin

NEW. Ephesians 2:3. NEVER वासना — a technical Hindu/Buddhist (especially Yogācāra) term for karmic impressions carried across lives, which would misdirect toward karma-mechanics rather than present moral culpability. Kept distinct from θέλημα/इच्छा (will_of_god).

Nature

Approved rendering: स्वभाव
Transliteration: swabhav
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: φύσις
Category: Sin

NEW. Ephesians 2:3, ‘by nature children of wrath.’ स्वभाव can echo jāti-svabhāva (caste-linked inherent natures); must be taught as applying EQUALLY and UNIVERSALLY to all humans regardless of caste or birth.

Purpose Of God

Approved rendering: योजना / अभिप्राय
Transliteration: yojana / abhipraya
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: πρόθεσις / βουλή
Category: Election

NEW. Ephesians 1:11 (‘the counsel of his own will’), 3:11 (‘the eternal purpose’). Reinforces predestination’s personal, purposive character against a fatalistic reading.

Will Of God

Approved rendering: इच्छा
Transliteration: ichchha
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: θέλημα
Category: Election

NEW (as a formally tracked entry). Ephesians 1:5, 1:9, 1:11 (God’s will, positive) vs. 2:3 (fallen human willing, negative) — the SAME Greek θέλημα covers both senses via इच्छा. Reviewers must confirm the modifying context (‘of God’ vs. ‘of the flesh’) is never dropped, and that इच्छा stays distinct from लालसा (desire/ἐπιθυμία).

Blessing

Approved rendering: आशिष्
Transliteration: ashish
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: आशीर्वाद
Original: εὐλογία / εὐλογητός
Category: God

NEW. Ephesians 1:3 (doubled use). आशीर्वाद carries Nepali ritual weight (elder/guru blessing via foot-touching, a hierarchical mediated ritual act); आशिष् avoids this and preserves God’s direct, unmediated gift.

Blameless

Approved rendering: दोषरहित
Transliteration: doshrahit
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: ἄμωμος
Category: Election

Stewardship

Approved rendering: जिम्मेवारी
Transliteration: jimmewari
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: परमेश्वरको व्यवस्थापन (reserved for providence)
Original: οἰκονομία
Category: Church

NEW. Ephesians 1:10, 3:2, 3:9 (οἰκονομία). Must stay terminologically distinct from परमेश्वरको व्यवस्थापन (baseline providence, fixed for Romans 8:28) — different Greek concepts.

Transliteration: milap garaunu
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity

Transliteration: prakashan
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: ἀποκάλυψις
Category: Mystery

NEW. Ephesians 1:17, 3:3, 3:5 (ἀποκάλυψις). Pairs closely with ‘mystery.‘

World Rulers

Transliteration: yas andhakarka shasakharu

Approved rendering: आत्माको तरवार
Transliteration: atmako tarwar
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: μάχαιρα τοῦ πνεύματος

Sacrificial Love

Approved rendering: प्रेम
Transliteration: prem
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: ἀγαπάω / ἀγάπη
Category: Household

NEW (formal tracking of ἀγαπάω/ἀγάπη in the household-codes context). Ephesians 5:2, 5:25. प्रेम is the ordinary Nepali word for love of all types; the self-giving, sacrificial sense must be carried by context and teaching notes.

Honor Parents

Approved rendering: आदर गर्नु / आज्ञा पालन गर्नु
Transliteration: aadar garnu / agya palan garnu
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: τιμάω / ὑπακούω
Category: Household

NEW. Ephesians 6:1-2, quoting the fifth commandment. Reuses the आज्ञाकारिता root but must be distinguished from the specifically faith-flowing obedience_of_faith category; this is ordinary filial duty.

Reward

Approved rendering: इनाम
Transliteration: inam
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: μισθός
Category: Household

NEW. Ephesians 6:8 (μισθός). Must not be read as earned merit contradicting grace; God’s generous recompense to those already saved by grace.

Sanctify By Washing

Transliteration: pavitra parnu / shuddha parnu
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: ἁγιάζω / καθαρίζω / λουτρόν

Transliteration: varadan
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Original: δόμα / δωρεά
Category: Church

NEW. Ephesians 4:8, 4:11 (δόμα/δωρεά). The ministry-office gifts Christ gives the church (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers) — distinct OFFICES/PERSONS, not general Spirit-given abilities (आत्मिक वरदान, χάρισμα).

Pastor

Approved rendering: गोठाला
Transliteration: gothala
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: पास्टर
Original: ποιμήν
Category: Church

NEW. Ephesians 4:11 (ποιμήν). गोठाला (shepherd) preserves the biblical shepherd-imagery link (cf. ‘Good Shepherd’ = असल गोठाला) rather than the colloquial loanword पास्टर, which loses Paul’s intended metaphor.

Old New Man

Approved rendering: पुरानो मानिस / नयाँ मानिस
Transliteration: purano manis / naya manis
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: παλαιὸς ἄνθρωπος / καινὸς ἄνθρωπος

Transliteration: navikaran garnu
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: ἀνανεόω / ἀνακαινόω

Doctrine: Sanctification

Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: πληρόω (verb)

Transliteration: susamachar pracharak
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Original: εὐαγγελιστής
Category: Church

Category: Church

NEW. Ephesians 5:19. भजन is already a successfully domesticated Nepali Christian term (cf. baseline’s भजनसंग्रह for Psalms); lower residual risk than मन्दिर or सिद्ध despite भजन-कीर्तन’s Hindu devotional-singing associations.
