Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Cross-Reference Analysis

Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis: 1 John (Korean Destination Language)

Purpose and Method

This document catalogs every Old Testament quotation and allusion, every messianic reference, every typological pattern, and every substantive parallel to other curricula in this pipeline (with special attention to Romans, the baseline anchor curriculum) found across all five chapters of 1 John. Citations are given in normalizable form (Book Chapter:Verse, e.g., “1 John 4:7”, “Genesis 15:6”) for downstream indexing. Each row records: Passage (1 John reference), Theme, Related Character, OT/NT Connection, and Translation Sensitivity. Where a quotation, allusion, or theological formula is shared with Romans, a rendering-consistency rule is issued in Part 3 to guarantee identical Korean phrasing across curricula, per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md’s “Theological Consistency Rules Across Documents.”

1 John contains no formal introductory-formula OT quotations (no “as it is written” citations, unlike Romans), but it is saturated with OT allusion, typology, and creation/fall/covenant background assumed by its author. This document treats allusions with the same rigor as direct quotations, since Korean learners with “moderate OT narrative literacy” (per the AI requirements document’s tone guidance) will need this background made explicit.

Part 1 — Cross-Reference Matrix by Chapter

Chapter 1 (1:1–10) — Fellowship, Light, Confession

PassageThemeRelated CharacterOT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
1 John 1:1Eternal preexistence of the Word of LifeChrist (the Word)Genesis 1:1 (“In the beginning God created…”); John 1:1-3,14 (the Logos “in the beginning”)Korean 태초에 (“in the beginning”) must match the established Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1 KRV rendering exactly, reinforcing that 1 John opens by deliberately echoing both creation and incarnation; must not be read as a vague philosophical “first principle.”
1 John 1:5God is lightGodPsalm 27:1 (“The LORD is my light”); Isaiah 60:19-20 (the LORD as everlasting light replacing sun and moon)빛 (God is light) must retain personal, moral-character sense; guard against collision with Won Buddhism’s 일원상 light-symbol and Cheondogyo’s 인내천 indwelling-divine-light teaching (see 07_semantic_analysis.md).
1 John 1:7Cleansing through Christ’s bloodChristLeviticus 17:11 (life/atonement is in the blood); Exodus 12:13,22-23 (Passover blood on the doorposts averts judgment) — typology: Passover lamb fulfilled in Christ예수의 피 must connect to the same atoning-blood theology as Romans 3:25 and 5:9 (“justified by his blood”); avoid folk-shamanistic blood-warding associations.
1 John 1:9Confession and forgiveness of sinBeliever, GodPsalm 32:5 (“I acknowledged my sin… you forgave”); Proverbs 28:13 (“whoever confesses and forsakes [sin] will have mercy”)자백하다 (established); direct, unmediated confession to God, consistent with Psalm 32’s pattern of direct divine-human confession without ritual intermediary.
1 John 1:10Universal sinfulness / self-deception in denying sinBackground: 1 Kings 8:46 (“there is no one who does not sin”); Romans 3:23 (“all have sinned”) — direct Romans parallelMust retain the same universal-accountability force as Romans 3:23; do not soften “makes him a liar” (거짓말하는 이로 만드는 것이니).

Chapter 2 (2:1–29) — Advocate, Commandment, World, Antichrist

PassageThemeRelated CharacterOT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
1 John 2:1-2Advocate and propitiationChrist (Advocate), the FatherLeviticus 16 (Day of Atonement, high priest’s mediating sacrifice); Job 16:19-21 (“my witness is in heaven… that he would plead for a man with God”); Isaiah 53:4-6,10-12 (the Servant as guilt offering bearing others’ iniquity) — messianic typology화목제물/대언자 must be checked against Romans 3:25’s ἱλαστήριον rendering (also 화목제물 in KRV) for cross-curriculum consistency — see Part 3, Rule 1.
1 John 2:6Walking as Christ walkedChristBackground: Deuteronomy 5:33/13:4 (“walk in all the ways the LORD your God has commanded”)행하다/살다; standard covenant-obedience idiom, low collision.
1 John 2:7-8Old/new commandment — love of neighborLeviticus 19:18 (“love your neighbor as yourself”) — direct OT source; NT parallels: Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31, Romans 13:9-10 (“love your neighbor as yourself… love is the fulfilling of the law”), Galatians 5:14Leviticus 19:18 must be rendered identically in 1 John teaching material and any Romans 13:9 material — see Part 3, Rule 2.
1 John 2:9-11Light/darkness ethical test, hatred of brotherBackground: Leviticus 19:17 (“you shall not hate your brother in your heart”) — same Levitical chapter as 2:7-8’s love commandReinforces 빛/어둠 (light/darkness) ethical-behavioral sense established in 07_semantic_analysis.md; keep tied to Leviticus 19’s holiness-code pairing of “do not hate” / “love your neighbor.”
1 John 2:15-17Love not the world; threefold temptation (flesh, eyes, pride)Eve (typological)Genesis 3:6 (“the fruit was good for food [flesh], pleasant to the eyes, desirable to make one wise [pride]”) — direct typological parallel to the threefold temptation patternHIGH sensitivity: teach the explicit Genesis 3:6 echo; also correlates with Romans 7:7-11 (sin’s deceit through the commandment) and Romans 5:12-19 (Adam typology) — a substantive Romans-curriculum link that should be flagged for coordinated teaching.
1 John 2:18-23Antichrist(s); denial of Father and SonDaniel 7:8,25; 11:36-37 (a boastful “little horn”/willful king, precursor apocalyptic-antichrist imagery); NT: Matthew 24:24 (false christs), 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4,8-9 (the man of lawlessness)적그리스도 (Critical); if 2 Thessalonians is added to this pipeline’s curriculum list in future, this rendering must be reused identically — flag for future cross-curriculum lock.
1 John 2:20,27Anointing — the Spirit’s teaching ministryBelievers, the Holy Spirit1 Samuel 16:13 (Spirit came upon David at his anointing); Isaiah 61:1 (“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me”) — messianic; NT: Luke 4:18 (Jesus applies Isaiah 61 to himself), Acts 10:38, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22기름부으심; must stay tied to ordinary believers’ doctrinal discernment function, not an elite charismatic power-display — see baseline “power_of_god” Critical guardrail.
1 John 2:22Denial that Jesus is the Christ — deity/sonship at stakeChristPsalm 2:7 (“You are my Son, today I have begotten you”) — messianic; direct parallel Romans 1:3-4 (Son “declared to be the Son of God with power”)Reuse 하나님의 아들 exactly per baseline; connects the antichrist-denial test directly to Romans’ opening Christological confession.
1 John 2:29Practicing righteousness as evidence of new birthBackground: Ezekiel 36:26-27 (new heart, new spirit enabling obedience); NT: Romans 6:4 (“newness of life”), Titus 3:5 (regeneration)의를 행하다/하나님께로부터 난 자; ties new-birth vocabulary (Critical, per glossary) to righteous conduct as its evidence.

Chapter 3 (3:1–24) — Children of God, Cain, Sacrificial Love, Assurance

PassageThemeRelated CharacterOT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
1 John 3:1-2Children of God; future glorificationBelievers, the FatherHosea 1:10 (“sons of the living God”), quoted at Romans 9:26; NT: Romans 8:14-17,19,23 (Spirit of adoption; glory to be revealed), Romans 8:29 (conformed to the image of the Son)HIGH cross-curriculum relevance: 하나님의 자녀 (τέκνα, birth-emphasis) and baseline’s 양자 (υἱοθεσία, legal-inheritance emphasis) must be taught as complementary, not interchangeable — see Part 3, Rule 3.
1 John 3:5Sinlessness of ChristChristIsaiah 53:9 (“he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth”) — messianic Servant typology; NT parallel: 2 Corinthians 5:21Maintain precise sinlessness doctrine; do not generalize to “a very righteous man.”
1 John 3:8Christ destroys the works of the devilThe devil/serpent, ChristGenesis 3:1-5,14-15 (the serpent; the protoevangelium, “he shall bruise your head”) — foundational messianic typology; NT: Romans 16:20 (“the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly”) — direct Romans fulfillment-echo of the same Genesis promiseCRITICAL cross-reference: ensure the Genesis 3:15 rendering used in any Romans 16:20 footnote and the 1 John 3:8 teaching material are identical — see Part 3, Rule 4.
1 John 3:10-12Children of God vs. children of the devil; Cain and AbelCain, AbelGenesis 4:1-16 (Cain murders Abel because his own works were evil and his brother’s righteous) — direct historical reference, not mere allusion; NT: Jude 1:11 (“the way of Cain”)가인 (Cain), 아벨 (Abel) — use established KRV proper-name forms; teach Cain as the paradigm case that hatred is spiritually equivalent to murder (cf. Matthew 5:21-22).
1 John 3:13The world’s hatred of believersNT: John 15:18-19 (“the world hates you… because I chose you out of the world”)Reinforces the negative (God-opposing) sense of 세상 flagged in 07_semantic_analysis.md/08_core_glossary.md; must be disambiguated from the neutral sense at 4:9,14.
1 John 3:16-17Sacrificial love — laying down one’s lifeChristNT: John 15:13 (“greater love has no one than this”); Romans 5:8 (“God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”)DIRECT PARALLEL to core-passage 4:10/4:19 and to Romans 5:8; “laid down his life” (목숨을 버리셨으니) must be rendered consistently across both — see Part 3, Rule 5.
1 John 3:20-21Assurance when the heart condemnsBeliever, God1 Kings 8:38-39 (God alone knows every heart); Psalm 103:14 (he knows our frame) — NT: Romans 8:1,33-34 (“no condemnation… who shall bring any charge?”)Key cross-reference for the Assurance of Salvation doctrine; teach 1 John 3:20-21 and Romans 8:1/33-34 as the same theological ground (God’s verdict, not the accusing conscience, is final).
1 John 3:23The unified commandment: believe + loveDeuteronomy 6:4-5 (Shema, love the LORD) combined with Leviticus 19:18 (love neighbor); NT: Mark 12:29-31, Matthew 22:37-40, Romans 13:9-10Same Leviticus 19:18/Deuteronomy 6:4-5 rendering-consistency rule as 2:7-8 — see Part 3, Rule 2.

Chapter 4 (4:1–21, including core passage 4:7–21)

PassageThemeRelated CharacterOT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
1 John 4:1Testing the spiritsDeuteronomy 13:1-5 (test a prophet by whether he leads Israel to other gods, even if a “sign” occurs); Deuteronomy 18:20-22 (test a prophet by fulfillment); 1 Kings 22:19-23 (a lying spirit test); Jeremiah 23:16-22 (false prophets)CRITICAL: the OT prophetic-testing background must be taught explicitly so that “test the spirits” is anchored as a doctrinal-prophetic office test (per Deuteronomy), never as a general shamanistic spirit-sensing ability (영분별/접신).
1 John 4:2-3Confessing Jesus Christ come in the fleshChristIsaiah 7:14 (Immanuel, “God with us”); Isaiah 9:6 (“a child is born… Mighty God”) — messianic; NT: John 1:14, Romans 1:3 (seed of David according to the flesh), Romans 8:3 (God sending his own Son “in the likeness of sinful flesh”)DIRECT parallel to baseline’s “incarnation”/“humanity_of_christ” Romans entries. “In the flesh” (육신으로 오신 것을) must be rendered consistently with Romans 1:3/8:3 phrasing — see Part 3, Rule 6.
1 John 4:4Greater is he who is in youThe Holy Spirit, believerNT: Romans 8:31 (“If God is for us, who can be against us?”), Romans 8:37 (“more than conquerors”)DIRECT PARALLEL; key assurance cross-reference, reinforcing the Overcoming the World doctrine.
1 John 4:7Love originates in God; new birth evidenced by loveBackground: Deuteronomy 6:5, Leviticus 19:18 (love commands); NT: John 13:34-35See Part 3, Rule 2.
1 John 4:8, 16”God is love”GodNo single OT quotation; theological background in God’s covenant-love (Hebrew חֶסֶד, hesed) e.g. Exodus 34:6-7 (“the LORD… abounding in steadfast love”), Deuteronomy 7:7-8Must never be taught in reversible form (“love is God”); anchor to the cross (v.10) as the defining act, paralleling Exodus 34:6-7’s revelation of God’s character by his acts, not an abstract love-principle.
1 John 4:9Sending of the only-begotten SonChrist; Isaac (typological)Genesis 22:2,12,16 (Abraham’s “only son,” “you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me”) — foundational typology for the Father’s sacrifice of the beloved Son; NT: Romans 8:32 (“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all”)DIRECT ROMANS PARALLEL — see Part 3, Rule 7. Teach Genesis 22 typology explicitly: Isaac carried the wood as Christ carried the cross; a ram was substituted for Isaac, while no substitute was found for God’s own Son.
1 John 4:10PropitiationChristLeviticus 16 (Day of Atonement); Isaiah 53:10 (“it was the will of the LORD to crush him… an offering for guilt”); NT: Romans 3:25 (ἱλαστήριον, “propitiation by his blood”)CRITICAL — see Part 3, Rule 1.
1 John 4:14Savior of the worldChristIsaiah 49:6 (“a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth”) — messianic; NT: Romans 10:12-13 (“no distinction between Jew and Greek… everyone who calls”), John 4:42Connects to baseline’s “universal_scope_of_gospel” (High) doctrine; must retain unqualified universality, consistent with Romans 10:12-13.
1 John 4:15Confession: Jesus is the Son of GodChristNT parallel confession formula: Romans 10:9 (“if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord”)See Part 3, Rule 8 — two distinct but complementary apostolic confession formulas; do not conflate wording.
1 John 4:18Perfect love casts out fearBackground: Deuteronomy 28:65-67 (the curse of unrelieved dread); NT: Romans 8:15 (“you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but… the Spirit of adoption”)DIRECT ROMANS PARALLEL — see Part 3, Rule 9; both texts describe the same fear-removing reality of adoption/love, and should be taught together.
1 John 4:19”He first loved us”GodNT: Romans 5:8 (see 3:16-17 above)See Part 3, Rule 5.
1 John 4:20-21Love of brother as proof of love of GodLeviticus 19:18 (again)See Part 3, Rule 2.

Chapter 5 (5:1–21) — Faith’s Victory, Threefold Witness, Eternal Life, Idols

PassageThemeRelated CharacterOT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
1 John 5:1Born of God; believing Jesus is the ChristNT parallel confession: Romans 10:9-10 (confess Jesus as Lord, believe he was raised)Complementary but distinct confession-test formula from 4:15/4:2-3; teach as parallel apostolic tests, not verbatim-identical wording.
1 John 5:4-5Overcoming the world through faithTypological fulfillment of Genesis 3:15 (the serpent-crusher); NT: John 16:33 (“I have overcome the world”), Romans 8:37DIRECT NT parallel across John’s Gospel, this Epistle, and Romans; reinforce as one unified biblical-theology arc from Genesis 3:15 to its accomplishment in Christ.
1 John 5:6-8The Spirit, the water, and the bloodChristTypological background: Exodus 12 (Passover blood); Numbers 19 (water of purification); NT: John 19:34 (blood and water from Christ’s side), Romans 6:3-4 (baptism into Christ’s death)Connect water/blood typology to Romans 6’s baptismal union-with-Christ teaching for cross-curriculum coherence; retain anti-docetic force (full, real incarnation and death).
1 John 5:11-13Eternal life in the Son; assuranceDaniel 12:2 (“everlasting life” at the resurrection of the dead) — earliest clear OT witness to this concept; NT: Romans 6:23 (“the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”)CRITICAL rendering-consistency: 영생 must be identical to any Romans 6:23 rendering — see Part 3, Rule 10.
1 John 5:14-15Confidence in prayerNT: Romans 8:26-27 (the Spirit intercedes for us)Direct parallel to baseline’s “prayer_and_intercession” doctrine (Medium risk); reinforce shared “boldness before God” theology.
1 John 5:16-17Sin unto death / not unto deathNumbers 15:30-31 (“the person who does anything with a high hand… shall be cut off”); 1 Samuel 2:25 (“if a man sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?”)Important OT background for this interpretive crux; should be included in teaching material so the concept is not read as isolated to the NT.
1 John 5:19The whole world lies in the power of the evil oneNT: John 12:31 (“the ruler of this world”); background parallel: Romans 8:19-22 (creation subjected to futility)Cosmic-brokenness backdrop shared with Romans 8; reinforces negative sense of 세상.
1 John 5:20The true God and eternal lifeGodJeremiah 10:10 (“the LORD is the true God, the living God”); Deuteronomy 6:4 (the Shema)참되신 하나님 must retain Shema-level monotheistic exclusivity; closing doctrinal seal of the letter.
1 John 5:21Keep yourselves from idolsExodus 20:3-4 (no other gods, no graven images); Deuteronomy 4:15-19; Isaiah 44:9-20 (the folly of idols); Jeremiah 10:1-16; NT: 1 Corinthians 10:14 (“flee from idolatry”), Acts 15:20, Romans 1:23,25 (“exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images… worshiped the creature rather than the Creator”)DIRECT ROMANS PARALLEL — 1 John’s closing warning bookends Romans’ opening idolatry indictment. 우상 rendering must be identical across curricula — see Part 3, Rule 11.

Part 2 — Messianic References and Typology Summary

OT Type/ProphecyFulfillment in 1 JohnFulfillment/Echo Elsewhere (esp. Romans)Korean Note
Genesis 3:15 — the woman’s seed crushing the serpent’s head1 John 3:8 (Christ destroys the works of the devil); 1 John 5:4-5 (overcoming the world)Romans 16:20 (“the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly”)Foundational protoevangelium; teach as one continuous storyline from Genesis to Romans to 1 John.
Genesis 22 — Abraham’s only son Isaac, not withheld1 John 4:9-10 (God’s only-begotten Son sent)Romans 8:32 (“did not spare his own Son”)Explicit typological teaching point; the ram substituted for Isaac foreshadows, but does not equal, the fact that no substitute was found for God’s Son.
Exodus 12 — the Passover lamb’s blood1 John 1:7 (blood cleanses); 1 John 5:6-8 (blood and water)Romans 3:25; 1 Corinthians 5:7 (parallel curriculum, “Christ our Passover”)Retain sacrificial-substitution logic; avoid folk-ritual blood associations.
Leviticus 16 — Day of Atonement1 John 2:2; 4:10 (propitiation)Romans 3:25 (ἱλαστήριον)See Part 3, Rule 1.
Isaiah 7:14; 9:6 — Immanuel, Mighty God1 John 4:2-3 (Jesus Christ come in the flesh)Romans 1:3; 8:3Anchors incarnation confession in messianic prophecy fulfillment.
Isaiah 53 — the Suffering Servant1 John 2:2 (advocate/propitiation); 3:5 (sinlessness)Romans 4:25; 5:6-8Servant Song background should be taught alongside propitiation teaching.
Psalm 2:7 — “You are my Son”1 John 2:22-23; 4:15; 5:5 (Son of God confession)Romans 1:4Reinforces Sonship-of-Christ doctrine (Critical, baseline).
Daniel 7, 11 — the boastful little horn1 John 2:18 (antichrist)2 Thessalonians 2 (outside current curriculum, future lock candidate)See antichrist entry above; live Korean new-religious-movement application required in teaching.
Hosea 1:10 — “sons of the living God”1 John 3:1-2 (children of God)Romans 9:26See Part 3, Rule 3.

Part 3 — Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations and Formulas

These rules govern Phase 2 enforcement wherever 1 John and Romans (or other loaded curricula) share a quotation, typological reference, or theological formula. Each rule must be checked at segment validation per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.

  1. Propitiation (ἱλασμός / ἱλαστήριον). 1 John 2:2, 4:10 (ἱλασμός) and Romans 3:25 (ἱλαστήριον) must both render as 화목제물, consistent with established KRV usage. Any future Romans-specific translation memory entry for “propitiation” must match this exact Korean term; do not introduce a second rendering for Romans’s ἱλαστήριον.
  2. Leviticus 19:18 / Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (the love command). Wherever quoted or clearly summarized — 1 John 2:7-8, 3:23, 4:7, 4:20-21, and Romans 13:9-10 — render the Leviticus 19:18 core as 네 이웃을 네 자신과 같이 사랑하라 (established KRV form) without variation. When Deuteronomy 6:4-5 is invoked alongside it (1 John 3:23; 4:7-21’s implicit background), keep the Shema’s monotheistic force intact rather than reducing it to a general ethical maxim.
  3. τέκνα θεοῦ (하나님의 자녀) vs. υἱοθεσία (양자). 1 John’s 하나님의 자녀 (birth/family-resemblance emphasis; 1 John 3:1-2, 2:29-3:10) and Romans’s 양자 (adoption/legal-inheritance emphasis; Romans 8:15,23) describe the same believers from two complementary angles. Never present one term as replacing or correcting the other; teaching materials referencing both curricula must state explicitly that 1 John emphasizes organic new birth while Romans emphasizes legal adoption into inheritance, and both exclude the traditional Korean instrumental-adoption pattern (adoption for continuing ancestor-memorial rites, 제사).
  4. Genesis 3:15 (the protoevangelium). Any Korean rendering of Genesis 3:15 used in Romans 16:20 footnotes must be identical to the rendering used in 1 John 3:8 and 5:4-5 teaching material, since both curricula treat this verse as the same fulfilled prophecy.
  5. “He first loved us” / “while we were still sinners” (priority of grace/love). 1 John 3:16, 4:10, 4:19 and Romans 5:8 must be taught as expressing the identical theological principle — God’s love/grace is unilaterally initiated, prior to and unconditioned by any human response. Korean renderings of these passages must consistently avoid any phrasing that could suggest a reciprocal-exchange structure (the same 기복신앙 guardrail documented for “grace” in the baseline).
  6. “In the flesh” (incarnation confession). 1 John 4:2-3’s 육신으로 오신 것 must align in register and phrasing with Romans 1:3 (다윗의 혈통, “according to the flesh”) and Romans 8:3 (죄 있는 육신의 모양으로, “in the likeness of sinful flesh”) wherever cross-referenced, so learners recognize these as one unified incarnation doctrine rather than separate concepts.
  7. Genesis 22 / Romans 8:32 / 1 John 4:9-10 (“did not spare/withhold his own Son”). When teaching materials draw this typological line, use consistent Korean phrasing for “did not spare/withhold” (아끼지 아니하시고) across both the Romans 8:32 and 1 John 4:9-10 discussions.
  8. Confession formulas — 1 John vs. Romans 10:9. Romans 10:9’s 예수는 주님이시다 (“Jesus is Lord”) and 1 John 4:2-3/4:15’s 예수 그리스도께서 육신으로 오신 것을 시인함 / 예수를 하나님의 아들로 시인함 are related but textually distinct apostolic confession-tests (lordship vs. incarnation/sonship). Never merge or substitute one formula for the other; teach both as complementary facets of the same saving confession of Christ.
  9. Fear/adoption pairing. 1 John 4:18 (“perfect love casts out fear”) and Romans 8:15 (“you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear”) must be cross-taught as the same assurance-of-adoption reality; Korean 두려움 (fear) in both passages should carry the same “dread of an unresolved, punishable standing before God” sense, resolved identically by identical grounds (God’s settled love/adoption).
  10. Eternal life (ζωὴ αἰώνιος). 영생 must be rendered identically wherever it occurs in 1 John (1:2; 2:25; 3:15; 5:11,13,20) and in any Romans passage (e.g., Romans 6:23) loaded into the same translation memory. No synonym substitution (e.g., 영원한 생명 as a one-off variant) is permitted once 영생 is established.
  11. Idols (εἴδωλα) / Romans 1:23,25 idolatry indictment. 1 John 5:21’s closing 우상 warning and Romans 1:23’s “exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images” must be taught as forming a deliberate scriptural inclusio (idolatry named at the start of the Romans-Christian-life curriculum arc and at the close of 1 John); render 우상 identically in both contexts.
