Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Cross-Reference Analysis

Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis — Luke 1–24 (English → Korean)

Purpose and Method

This document maps every Old Testament quotation, allusion, and typological pattern in the Gospel of Luke, chapter by chapter, cover to cover, and cross-references each to (a) the eight assigned curriculum doctrines, (b) related biblical characters, and (c) the baseline Romans Language Package, wherever Luke and Romans draw on the same Old Testament text, character, or doctrinal argument. Its purpose is to give Phase 2 translators and reviewers a single lookup table for translation-sensitivity flags and rendering-consistency rules that apply across curricula, not merely within Luke.

No chapter is skipped. Chapters with no direct OT quotation or major typological pattern are still represented in the matrix with their minor allusions noted, or are marked “reviewed, no cross-reference load” if genuinely absent.

Citation Normalization Convention

All citations in this document use the normalized English form Book chapter:verse (e.g., Genesis 15:6, Isaiah 61:1, Luke 4:18), with hyphens for verse ranges (Isaiah 61:1-2) and commas for combined/composite citations (Isaiah 56:7, Jeremiah 7:11). This is the citation form used in Phase 1 documents (English source-language artifacts). Phase 2 Korean-language output must convert citations to the Korean Revised Version book-name and format convention already established in the baseline (12_ai_translation_requirements.md, Cross-Reference Preservation Rules), e.g. 로마서 3:23, 누가복음 4:18.

Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared/Overlapping OT Quotations

These rules govern any segment in which Luke curriculum materials cite an OT passage that is also cited, or thematically load-bearing, in the Romans Language Package.

  1. Verbatim-shared OT verses must be rendered identically in both curricula. Where the exact same OT verse is quoted in both Luke and Romans (e.g., Leviticus 19:18, quoted at both Luke 10:27 and Romans 13:9), the Korean OT-quotation text must be word-for-word identical across all curriculum documents. Do not produce a second, independently-translated rendering for the Luke curriculum.
  2. Same OT book, different verse: where both curricula draw heavily on the same OT book (e.g., Isaiah) but different specific verses, maintain the same Korean book-name form (이사야서) and the same register/idiom conventions already set by the baseline’s KRV-anchored translation tradition, but do not force identical wording between the two distinct verses.
  3. Same OT chapter underlying different doctrinal arguments (e.g., Isaiah 53): treat as a single shared theological reservoir. Key vocabulary drawn from that chapter (e.g., 범죄자 “transgressors,” 담당하다 “to bear/carry,” 의롭게 하다 “to justify/make righteous”) must be rendered with the same term choices in both the Luke and Romans curricula, even when the specific verse quoted differs, so that a learner moving between curricula recognizes the shared OT source.
  4. Same character appearing in both curricula’s argument (e.g., Elijah, Abraham, David): proper names use the established KRV forms already fixed in the baseline (다윗, 이스라엘 pattern) — extend the same convention to 엘리야 (Elijah), 아브라함 (Abraham, already baseline-adjacent), 모세 (Moses, already in baseline transliteration list), 엘리사 (Elisha). Do not introduce alternate transliterations.
  5. Thematically-related but textually-distinct citation families must not be conflated. For example, Luke’s Psalm 118:22 (the rejected stone, Luke 20:17) and Romans’ Isaiah 28:16 (the stone of stumbling, Romans 9:33) belong to a shared early-church “stone testimonia” tradition but are not the same OT verse. Footnotes and teaching materials must cite each passage’s actual OT source distinctly and never merge them into a single citation.
  6. When Luke narratively enacts a doctrine that Romans states propositionally (e.g., Luke 18:9-14’s tax collector narratively enacting the Romans 1:17/Habakkuk 2:4 “righteous by faith” thesis, with no direct verbal quotation overlap), the cross-reference must be marked as a doctrinal parallel, not a shared citation, and rendering consistency applies only to the shared doctrinal terms (의롭다 하심, 믿음), not to any OT wording.
  7. Any Critical or High risk baseline term appearing inside an OT quotation (e.g., 은혜, 성령, 하나님, 의) is governed first by the baseline’s Critical/High enforcement rules; the OT-citation rendering rules in this document are subordinate to, and must never override, those term-level rules.

Cross-reference to Romans: Elijah reappears in Romans 11:2-4, citing 1 Kings 19:10,14, in Paul’s argument about a faithful remnant amid Israel’s unbelief. Render 엘리야 identically in both curricula (Rule 4); the Luke and Romans arguments are structurally parallel (God’s grace reaching beyond/within unexpected recipients) though not verbally identical citations.

Luke 6:36Leviticus 19:2Allusion (holiness → mercy)Jesus’ compassion; imitation of God’s characterMedium; distinguish 거룩한 (holy, baseline High) from 자비/긍휼 (mercy) used here.
Luke 7:11-171 Kings 17:17-24; 2 Kings 4:32-37TypologyJesus’ compassion; good news to the marginalized (widow)Elijah, Elisha, widow of NainHigh; crowd’s response (“a great prophet has arisen,” 7:16) also echoes Deuteronomy 18:15’s prophet-like-Moses expectation.
Luke 7:22Isaiah 35:5-6; Isaiah 61:1Direct allusion (recapitulates 4:18)Good news to the poor; messianic proof-textsJohn the Baptist, JesusHIGH — must render consistently with Luke 4:18’s established terms (가난한 자, 눈먼 자, etc.) per the Glossary Governance Notes’ verbatim-consistency mandate for the core passage.
Luke 7:27Malachi 3:1Direct quotationForerunner fulfillmentJohn the BaptistMedium.
Luke 8:10Isaiah 6:9-10Direct quotationKingdom of God present/hidden; judicial hardeningHigh; must be taught as judicial response to persistent unbelief, not impersonal fate — guard against a 팔자/운명 (fatalism) misreading, per baseline’s providence/effectual_calling cautions.

Luke 11:29-32Jonah 1-4; 1 Kings 10:1-10Direct typological referenceSavior for all nations; universal human accountabilityJonah, Queen of the South, SolomonHIGH — Gentiles (Ninevites, Queen of the South) will judge unbelieving Israel; reinforces baseline universal_human_accountability (“no distinction,” High) and parallels Romans 2:9-10’s “Jew first, also Greek” formula. Render the “no distinction” force consistently with Romans usage.
Luke 11:49-51Genesis 4:8-10; 2 Chronicles 24:20-22Direct allusionProphetic rejectionAbel, Zechariah son of BerekiahMedium.
Luke 12:6-7Psalm 147:9 (background)AllusionProvidence; dependence on GodLow-Medium; ties baseline providence (섭리, High) — must not read as fatalistic (팔자/운명 forbidden).
Luke 12:53Micah 7:6Direct quotationCost of discipleship; family divisionMedium-High; family division caused by allegiance to Christ intersects directly with Korea’s Confucian filial-piety (효) framework and the baseline’s Critical father/jesa caution — teach as Christ’s priority over, not license to abandon, filial love.
Luke 13:19Ezekiel 17:23; Daniel 4:12,21AllusionKingdom of God present/future growthLow-Medium.
Luke 13:27Psalm 6:8Direct quotationJudgment; false discipleshipMedium.

Luke 14:26Deuteronomy 21:15-17 (background idiom)AllusionCost of discipleshipCRITICAL — “hate father and mother” is a Semitic idiom of relative priority, not literal hatred; given the baseline’s Critical father/jesa-ancestor-rite caution, this is the single highest-sensitivity family-related discipleship saying in the entire book and requires explicit theologian-reviewed footnoting distinguishing “less love than owed to Christ” from actual filial disrespect or abandonment.
Luke 15:4-7Ezekiel 34:11-16; Psalm 119:176Direct allusionRepentance/forgiveness; God as seeking ShepherdHigh; God’s seeking initiative, not the sheep’s self-return, is the point.
Luke 15:11-32 (Prodigal Son)Deuteronomy 21:17 (inheritance law); Deuteronomy 30:1-10 (repentance/return-from-exile pattern); Hosea 11:1-11 (God’s fatherly compassion)TypologyRepentance and forgiveness of sins; Jesus’ compassionCRITICAL — the father’s culturally undignified run to embrace his son is the parable’s emotional center; teach so that the 아버지 (Father, Critical, jesa-aware) household-reunion imagery reads as personal relational restoration, not an ancestor-rite reconciliation.
Luke 16:19-31 (Rich Man & Lazarus)Deuteronomy 15:7-11; Amos 6:1-7; Proverbs 22:2AllusionRich/poor reversal; final judgmentHigh; see doc 07/08.

Luke 18:20Exodus 20:12-16; Deuteronomy 5:16-20Direct quotationLaw’s demand; insufficiency of law-keeping alonerich rulerHIGH — parallels Romans’ law/righteousness discussion (Romans 3:20, Romans 7:7, which also cites Decalogue commandments); render 율법 (law, baseline High) and specific commandment phrasing consistently with any Decalogue citation appearing in Romans materials (Rule 1/2).
Luke 19:9-10Ezekiel 34:16 (background)AllusionSavior for all — thesis verse (19:10)ZacchaeusCRITICAL — Luke 19:10’s “seek and save the lost” is the Gospel’s soteriological thesis-summary; see 08_core_glossary.md governance note requiring verbatim cross-document consistency.
Luke 19:38Psalm 118:26Direct quotationMessianic kingship acclamationCRITICAL — must render identically to Luke 13:35’s citation of the same verse. Note: thematically adjacent to, but textually distinct from, Romans 15:11’s citation of Psalm 117:1 in a Gentile-praise catena — do not conflate (Rule 5).
Luke 19:46Isaiah 56:7; Jeremiah 7:11Direct combined quotationTemple cleansing; true worshipMedium-High.
Luke 20:17Psalm 118:22Direct quotationRejected-stone ChristologyHIGH — related but textually distinct from Romans 9:33’s citation of Isaiah 28:16 (a separate “stone” testimonium tradition, also combined with Ps 118:22 in 1 Peter 2:6-8 outside this pipeline’s scope); cite each passage’s actual OT source distinctly (Rule 5).
Luke 20:37-38Exodus 3:6Direct quotationResurrection; God of the livingAbraham, Isaac, JacobHigh; ties baseline resurrection_of_christ/general resurrection doctrine (부활, Critical) to a Torah proof-text; retain 하나님 baseline term consistently in the divine self-identification formula.
Luke 20:42-43Psalm 110:1Direct quotationMessiah’s divine lordship, greater than DavidDavidCRITICAL — directly undergirds 주님 (Lord, Critical) doctrine; render with the same care as Romans 10:9’s Lordship confession.
Luke 21:9-11Isaiah 19:2; Haggai 2:6-7 (background apocalyptic imagery)AllusionKingdom present/future tensionMedium.
Luke 21:24Daniel/Zechariah background (“times of the Gentiles”)AllusionEschatological Gentile-inclusion timelineMedium-High.
Luke 21:27Daniel 7:13-14Direct quotation/allusionSon of Man’s future glorious comingCRITICAL — retains 인자 (Son of Man, High) at its full Danielic apocalyptic force; do not flatten to a merely human figure in this eschatological context.
Luke 22:19-20Exodus 24:8; Jeremiah 31:31-34; Exodus 12Direct typology/allusionNew covenant; atonementCRITICAL — Jeremiah 31:31 is the OT root text for “new covenant”; must be flagged explicitly whenever “새 언약” appears in teaching materials, paralleling how Romans 9-11 treats covenant theology, though Romans does not directly quote Jeremiah 31:31.
Luke 22:37Isaiah 53:12Direct quotationSuffering Servant fulfillment; atonementCRITICAL — mandatory cross-curriculum rendering rule: Isaiah 53 is the OT chapter underlying Romans’ own atonement language (Romans 4:25, Romans 5:19 both echo Isaiah 53:5,11,12 without direct quotation). Vocabulary (범죄자 “transgressors,” 담당하다 “to bear,” 의롭게 하다 “to justify many”) must be rendered identically wherever Isaiah 53 is cited or echoed in either curriculum (Rule 3).
Luke 22:69Psalm 110:1; Daniel 7:13Direct combined allusionSon of Man’s exaltationCritical.
Luke 23:34Isaiah 53:12 (intercession for transgressors); Psalm 22:18 (casting lots)Direct allusionChrist’s intercessory forgiveness; suffering MessiahCritical; see Isaiah 53 rule above.

Luke 23:44-45Amos 8:9; Exodus 26:31-33AllusionJudgment; access to God openedMedium.
Luke 23:46Psalm 31:5Direct quotationPrayer and dependence on God (Christ’s own model in death)HIGH — this is the Gospel’s paradigmatic text for trusting dependence on the Father at the point of greatest cost; recommend featuring alongside Luke 11:2-4 as the doctrine’s two anchor texts.
Luke 24:26-27, 44-47”Moses, Prophets, Psalms” (comprehensive)Direct programmatic hermeneutical statementFulfillment of prophecy; universal mission; repentance and forgivenessCRITICAL — Luke’s capstone claim that all Scripture testifies to Christ’s suffering, resurrection, and worldwide gospel proclamation. Cross-reference to Romans: structurally parallel to Romans 1:2-4 (“promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures… concerning his Son”). Render the “이같이 기록되었으되” (thus it is written) formula consistently across both curricula.
Luke 24:46Hosea 6:2 (debated background); Jonah 1:17Typological allusionResurrection on the third dayJonahHigh.

PART 3 — Typological Patterns Across Luke

TypeLuke PassagesOT AntecedentTheological Function
Adam typology3:38 (genealogy to Adam, “son of God”); 4:1-13 (temptation, contrast with Adam’s fall)Genesis 2-3Jesus as the obedient, faithful human where Adam failed; grounds universal-scope doctrine (all humanity’s representative).
Moses typology9:28-36 (Transfiguration, “listen to him”); 24:27,44Exodus 24, 34; Deuteronomy 18:15-19Jesus as the definitive prophet fulfilling and surpassing Moses; anchors inspiration/fulfillment doctrines.
Elijah/Elisha typology4:25-27; 7:11-17; 9:8,19,30,33,54; 1:17 (John as Elijah-forerunner)1 Kings 17; 2 Kings 4-5; Malachi 4:5-6Compassionate, wonder-working prophetic ministry extending to Gentiles and the marginalized; directly undergirds “good news to the poor” and “savior for all nations.”
Davidic typology1:32-33; 3:31; 6:3-4; 18:38-39; 20:41-442 Samuel 7; Psalm 110; 1 Samuel 21Messianic kingship, authority greater than David.
Suffering Servant typology2:34-35; 22:37; 23:34,46Isaiah 42, 49, 52-53Passion as fulfillment of the Isaianic Servant’s vicarious suffering; ties directly to Romans’ atonement theology (see Part 1 Rule 3).

PART 4 — Parallels to the Romans Curriculum

This section consolidates every point above where Luke and Romans share an OT text, character, or structurally parallel doctrinal argument, for direct use by Phase 2 translators working across both curricula.

Shared ElementLuke ReferenceRomans ReferenceRelationshipRendering-Consistency Rule
Leviticus 19:18 (“love your neighbor as yourself”)Luke 10:27Romans 13:9Identical OT verse quotedMANDATORY: identical Korean wording in both curricula (Rule 1).
Decalogue commandmentsLuke 18:20Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; Romans 13:9Same OT law-corpus (Exodus 20/Deuteronomy 5), different specific verses per contextRender commandment phrasing (살인, 간음, 도둑질, 탐심 등) consistently wherever cited in either curriculum.
Isaiah 53 (Suffering Servant)Luke 22:37 (direct quote); Luke 23:34,46 (allusion)Romans 4:25; Romans 5:19 (thematic dependence, no direct quotation)Same OT chapter underlying both curricula’s atonement doctrineMANDATORY: identical key-term rendering (범죄자, 담당하다, 의롭게 하다) across both curricula (Rule 3).
Elijah and the faithful remnantLuke 4:25-26 (widow of Zarephath)Romans 11:2-4 (1 Kings 19:10-18, the 7,000)Same OT character, parallel argument about God’s grace reaching unexpected/remnant recipientsRender 엘리야 identically (Rule 4); note the parallel argument structure in teaching materials without merging the two distinct OT episodes.
Abraham as paradigm of faithLuke 1:55,73; 3:8; 13:16; 16:22-31; 19:9; 20:37 (frequent narrative references)Romans 4:1-25 (direct exposition, quoting Genesis 15:6)Same patriarch, same covenant-faith theme; Romans supplies the direct verbal citation Luke’s narrative assumesRender 아브라함 and covenant-faith vocabulary consistently; treat as doctrinal-parallel, not verbal-citation-parallel (Rule 6).
”Stone” ChristologyLuke 20:17 (Psalm 118:22)Romans 9:33 (Isaiah 28:16)Related but textually distinct “stone” testimoniaDo NOT conflate; cite each OT source distinctly (Rule 5).
Habakkuk 2:4 / righteous-by-faith thesisLuke 18:9-14 (tax collector, narrative enactment)Romans 1:17 (direct quotation, curriculum thesis verse)Doctrinal parallel; no verbal citation overlapRender 의롭다 하심/믿음 consistently (baseline terms); note the parallel explicitly in teaching materials as “Luke’s narrative counterpart to Romans’ thesis text.”
Jeremiah 31:31 (new covenant)Luke 22:20 (direct institution)Romans 9-11 (covenant-theology background, no direct quotation)Same OT prophecy, same underlying covenant theologyFlag Jeremiah 31 explicitly whenever “새 언약” appears in either curriculum’s teaching materials.
”Today”/“now” as the day of salvationLuke 2:11; 4:21; 19:9; 23:43 (σήμερον)Romans 3:21; 5:9; 8:1 (“but now,” νυνί)Shared NT rhetorical structure marking the in-breaking of the eschatological age (no shared OT citation)Not a citation-rendering rule but a thematic-framing rule: teach both curricula’s “now/today” language as expressions of the same inaugurated-eschatology reality.
Psalm 110:1 (Messiah at God’s right hand)Luke 20:42-43; 22:69(Not directly quoted in Romans, but foundational to NT Lordship Christology shared by both curricula)Same OT text, parallel Christological functionRender with the same rigor as Romans 10:9’s Lordship confession; both anchor 주님 (Critical).

Cross-Document Consistency Mandates (Extending the Baseline’s Rule)

Per the baseline’s “Theological Consistency Rules Across Documents” (12_ai_translation_requirements.md), the following Luke-specific verses/phrases require identical, verbatim-consistent Korean rendering across every curriculum document in which they appear, on par with the baseline’s treatment of Romans 1:16-17, 8:28, and 10:9-10:

  1. Luke 4:16-21 (core passage, entire pericope)
  2. Luke 19:10 (“The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost”)
  3. Luke 24:46-47 (the programmatic Great Commission summary: “repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations”)
  4. Psalm 118:26 as quoted at both Luke 13:35 and Luke 19:38
  5. Isaiah 53:12 as quoted at Luke 22:37, and its echoes at Luke 23:34,46
