Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Cross-Reference Analysis

Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis: Hebrews (Korean Destination Language)

Scope and Method

This document extends analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md and analysis/08_core_glossary.md by mapping every Old Testament quotation and allusion in Hebrews 1–13, every messianic/typological pattern, and every parallel to other curricula in this language pipeline (Romans as the baseline anchor; Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians as documented in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md’s tag list). Its purpose is to give Phase 2 translators a single reference for (a) recognizing when a Hebrews segment is quoting or echoing another biblical text that already has, or will need, a fixed Korean rendering, and (b) applying rendering-consistency rules so that shared quotations, titles, and theological formulas read identically wherever they recur across this curriculum’s full source corpus.

Citation format: All citations in this document use the normalizable English form (Book Chapter:Verse, e.g. Genesis 15:6, Hebrews 9:20) for cross-document machine consistency. Final Korean-language output must follow the Korean Revised Version book-name conventions already established in the baseline (히브리서, 로마서, 창세기, etc.; see 12_ai_translation_requirements.md, Cross-Reference Preservation Rules) with Arabic verse numerals retained.

Section 1 — Old Testament Quotation and Allusion Matrix (Hebrews 1–13)

Hebrews PassageOT SourceTypeThemeRelated Character(s)Translation Sensitivity
Hebrews 1:5aPsalm 2:7Direct quotationSonship of ChristThe Son, God the FatherReuses 하나님의 아들 (Critical, baseline). “Today I have begotten you” (오늘 내가 너를 낳았다) must not be read as Christ’s origin-in-time; KRV tradition reads this as declarative enthronement language, not an ontological beginning.
Hebrews 1:5b2 Samuel 7:14Direct quotationDavidic Covenant / Sonship of ChristDavid, Solomon (typologically Christ)Reuses 다윗 (Low, baseline) and 하나님의 아들 (Critical); grounds Christ’s sonship in the Davidic covenant promise.
Hebrews 1:6Deuteronomy 32:43 (LXX) / Psalm 97:7Direct quotationSuperiority over AngelsAngels천사 (Medium); angelic worship of the Son is the argument’s climax for ch. 1 — must render “let all God’s angels worship him” with unambiguous exclusivity, not as one deity among a heavenly court.
Hebrews 1:7Psalm 104:4Direct quotationSuperiority over AngelsAngels천사 (Medium); “winds… flame of fire” is a subordination formula, contrasted with the Son’s enthronement in 1:8.
Hebrews 1:8-9Psalm 45:6-7Direct quotationDeity of ChristThe Son (addressed as “God”)Critical — explicitly addresses the Son as 하나님 (God); this is one of the strongest direct deity-of-Christ proof texts in the NT and must render with full force, not softened to an honorific title.
Hebrews 1:10-12Psalm 102:25-27Direct quotationDeity of Christ / CreatorThe Lord (applied to the Son)Critical; identifies the Son as the changeless Creator, reusing 주님 (Critical, baseline) and creation language.
Hebrews 1:13Psalm 110:1Direct quotationLordship and Exaltation of ChristDavid (author), the SonCritical — “Sit at my right hand” is among the most-cited OT verses in the NT (cf. Romans 8:34; Matthew 22:44; Acts 2:34-35; 1 Corinthians 15:25; Ephesians 1:20); render 내 우편에 앉으라 consistently with parallel occurrences in other curriculum documents.
Hebrews 2:6-8Psalm 8:4-6Direct quotationHumanity and Exaltation of Christ”Son of Man” (typologically Christ), humanityHigh; establishes the “for a little while lower than the angels” argument developed through the chapter; must not blur the human/creaturely referent of Psalm 8 with the divine referent of Psalm 110 quoted immediately before it.
Hebrews 2:12Psalm 22:22Direct quotationChrist’s Solidarity with BelieversChrist, “brothers” (believers)Medium; Psalm 22 is the crucifixion psalm quoted elsewhere in the Gospels (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34); this citation shows the risen Christ leading the congregation’s praise.
Hebrews 2:13Isaiah 8:17-18Direct quotationChrist’s Solidarity with BelieversIsaiah, Christ, believers (“children”)Medium; “I will put my trust in him” reuses 믿음/신뢰 field (High, baseline faith); grounds Christ’s own exercised trust in the Father.
Hebrews 3:7-11Psalm 95:7-11 (cf. Exodus 17:1-7; Numbers 14)Direct quotation, extendedDanger of Apostasy / Warning PassagesWilderness generation, MosesCritical — foundational text for the whole book’s first major warning passage; 오늘 (today) and 완고하게 하다 (harden) must render with urgency preserved; repeated verbatim in Hebrews 3:15 and 4:7, requiring internal consistency within this document as well as with any Psalms curriculum material.
Hebrews 3:16-19Numbers 14:1-38; Exodus 17Narrative allusionDanger of Apostasy / UnbeliefMoses, the wilderness generationHigh; establishes 불신앙 (unbelief, High, this curriculum) as the specific cause of failure to enter rest — historical exemplum, not merely poetic warning.
Hebrews 4:3-4Psalm 95:11; Genesis 2:2Direct quotationPerseverance and Assurance / RestGod (Creator), the wilderness generationHigh; ties creation Sabbath-rest (Genesis 2:2) to eschatological rest doctrine (안식, High); must not collapse into a merely calendrical Sabbath-observance reading.
Hebrews 4:7Psalm 95:7-8 (repeated)Direct quotation (repetition)Danger of ApostasyWilderness generationCritical — must render identically to Hebrews 3:7-11’s rendering of the same psalm within this document.
Hebrews 5:5-6Psalm 2:7; Psalm 110:4Direct quotationChrist as the Great High PriestThe Son, Melchizedek (typologically)Critical — Psalm 110:4 (“a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek”) is the single OT verse on which the entire Melchizedek-priesthood argument of chapters 5–7 depends; must render 멜기세덱의 서열을 따라 영원한 제사장 consistently at every recurrence (5:6, 5:10, 6:20, 7:17, 7:21).
Hebrews 5:7(Allusion, not direct quotation) Gospel Gethsemane accountsNarrative allusionChrist’s Learned ObedienceChristMedium; “loud cries and tears” alludes to the Gethsemane narrative parallel in Matthew 26:36-46, Mark 14:32-42, Luke 22:39-46 in this curriculum; render consistently with those Gospel documents’ Gethsemane vocabulary when produced.
Hebrews 6:13-14Genesis 22:16-17Direct quotationFaith of the OT Saints / AssuranceAbraham, Isaac (typologically)High; God’s oath to Abraham after the binding of Isaac (Genesis 22) grounds the “two unchangeable things” (oath and promise) argument of 6:17-18; connects directly to Hebrews 11:17-19’s treatment of the same event.
Hebrews 6:20Psalm 110:4; Genesis 14:18-20Combined allusionChrist as the Great High PriestMelchizedek, ChristCritical (see 5:5-6 and ch. 7 entries).
Hebrews 7:1-2Genesis 14:17-20Narrative quotation/summarySuperiority over the Levitical PriesthoodMelchizedek, AbrahamHigh; the name etymology (“king of righteousness… king of peace”) reuses 의 (Critical) and 화평 (Medium); must render the etymological wordplay so the argument’s logic survives in Korean, even though 멜기세덱 as a transliterated proper noun carries no native Korean etymological meaning.
Hebrews 7:17, 7:21Psalm 110:4 (repeated)Direct quotation (repetition)Superiority over the Levitical PriesthoodMelchizedek, ChristCritical — must render identically to 5:6 and 6:20 within this document.
Hebrews 8:5Exodus 25:40Direct quotationNew Covenant versus Old / Typology of the TabernacleMosesMedium; “pattern shown you on the mountain” grounds the copy/shadow (모형/그림자, Medium) argument developed through chapters 8–10.
Hebrews 8:8-12Jeremiah 31:31-34Direct quotation, extendedThe New Covenant versus the OldJeremiah, “the house of Israel and the house of Judah”Critical — the single longest OT quotation in the NT and the doctrinal center of the New Covenant doctrine for this curriculum; must render with absolute internal consistency between this occurrence and its repetition in Hebrews 10:16-17; “새 언약,” “내가 그들의 죄를 다시 기억하지 아니하리라,” and “그들의 마음에 내 법을 기록하리라” are fixed phrases requiring verbatim reuse.
Hebrews 9:19-20Exodus 24:6-8Direct quotationOnce-for-All Atoning Sacrifice / Access to God through Christ’s BloodMoses, Israel at SinaiCritical — “언약의 피” (blood of the covenant) must render identically at Hebrews 9:20 and Hebrews 13:20, and align with the Last Supper institution accounts (Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:24; Luke 22:20; 1 Corinthians 11:25) elsewhere in this curriculum’s corpus, since Christ’s own words at the Supper deliberately echo this Exodus formula.
Hebrews 9:1-10 (background)Leviticus 16 (Day of Atonement); Numbers 19 (red heifer)Sustained typological background, not direct quotationOnce-for-All Atoning Sacrifice; Superiority over Levitical PriesthoodAaron, the high priest, the congregationCritical — the entire core-passage argument (9:11-28) depends on readers grasping the Day of Atonement pattern (annual entry, animal blood, repeated action) as the “old” pole the passage systematically surpasses; teaching materials should include a brief Leviticus 16 explanatory note for OT-narrative-literacy purposes.
Hebrews 10:5-7Psalm 40:6-8Direct quotationOnce-for-All Atoning SacrificeChrist (speaking in the Psalm, per the author’s Christological reading)Critical — “a body have you prepared for me” grounds the incarnation (성육신, Critical baseline) in an OT text read as the pre-incarnate Son’s own voice; “sacrifices and offerings you have not desired” directly relativizes 제사/제물 (Critical) language, a key move preparing 13:15’s redefinition of sacrifice.
Hebrews 10:16-17Jeremiah 31:33-34 (repeated)Direct quotation (repetition)The New Covenant versus the OldJeremiahCritical — must render identically to 8:8-12 within this document.
Hebrews 10:30Deuteronomy 32:35-36Direct quotationDanger of Apostasy / Warning PassagesGod (as judge)Critical — “Vengeance is mine, I will repay” and “the Lord will judge his people” is quoted identically in Romans 12:19 within this pipeline’s baseline; render consistently with the existing Romans 12:19 Korean rendering if already fixed in translation memory, or establish and record the rendering here for reuse.
Hebrews 10:37-38Habakkuk 2:3-4Direct quotationFaith of the OT Saints / PerseveranceHabakkuk, “the righteous”Critical — “the righteous shall live by faith” (의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라) is the SAME OT citation quoted in Romans 1:17 (thesis statement of the baseline curriculum) and Galatians 3:11. Per the baseline’s cross-document consistency rule for Romans 1:16-17, this exact clause MUST render identically across Hebrews, Romans, and Galatians documents. The added clause unique to Hebrews (“if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him”) introduces 뒤로 물러가다 (High, this curriculum) as the antonym-pole to persevering faith.
Hebrews 11:3Genesis 1 (creation, general allusion)AllusionFaith of the OT SaintsLow; “the universe was created by the word of God” is a general allusion to the creation account, not a direct quotation.
Hebrews 11:4Genesis 4:3-10Narrative allusionFaith of the OT SaintsAbel, CainMedium; Abel’s blood (Genesis 4:10) is directly contrasted with Christ’s “sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel” in Hebrews 12:24 — these two passages must be read and rendered as a deliberate pair.
Hebrews 11:5Genesis 5:21-24Narrative allusionFaith of the OT SaintsEnochLow.
Hebrews 11:7Genesis 6:13-22Narrative allusionFaith of the OT SaintsNoahLow-Medium.
Hebrews 11:8-12, 17-19Genesis 12:1-4; 15:1-6; 17:15-19; 21:1-7; 22:1-18Narrative allusion, extendedFaith of the OT SaintsAbraham, Sarah, IsaacCritical — this is Hebrews’ single most theologically loaded OT-saints case study and its thematic parallel to Romans 4 (Abraham’s faith) is the most important cross-curriculum link in the whole book. Note that Hebrews 11 does not directly quote Genesis 15:6 (“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”) as Romans 4:3, Galatians 3:6, and James 2:23 do elsewhere in Scripture — Hebrews instead narrates Abraham’s faith through the Isaac-sacrifice and the “as good as dead” body/womb language (11:11-12). Translators must recognize this as the same Abraham-faith tradition as Romans 4 even though the specific proof-text differs, and must NOT import Romans 4’s imputed-righteousness (의로 여기심, Critical, baseline) vocabulary into Hebrews 11 where the author’s own emphasis is on persevering, obedient trust rather than the forensic-declaration point Paul is making in Romans.
Hebrews 11:18Genesis 21:12Direct quotationFaith of the OT SaintsAbraham, IsaacMedium; “through Isaac shall your offspring be named” grounds the promise-line argument.
Hebrews 11:20Genesis 27:27-29, 39-40Narrative allusionFaith of the OT SaintsIsaac, Jacob, EsauLow.
Hebrews 11:21Genesis 48:1-20Narrative allusionFaith of the OT SaintsJacob, Joseph’s sonsLow.
Hebrews 11:22Genesis 50:24-25Narrative allusionFaith of the OT SaintsJosephLow.
Hebrews 11:23-28Exodus 1-14Narrative allusion, extendedFaith of the OT SaintsMoses, Moses’ parents, PharaohHigh; 11:26 (“he considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt”) retroactively applies Christ’s reproach (그리스도를 위하여 받는 수모, Medium) to Moses, a typological/anachronistic theological reading that must be taught clearly as the author’s inspired retrospective interpretation, not a claim that Moses had explicit knowledge of Jesus of Nazareth.
Hebrews 11:29Exodus 14:21-31Narrative allusionFaith of the OT SaintsIsrael, Pharaoh’s armyLow; this is the same Red Sea event referenced typologically in 1 Corinthians 10:1-2 within this curriculum’s broader corpus — note the parallel for consistency in any shared imagery of “passing through” as a type of deliverance.
Hebrews 11:30Joshua 6Narrative allusionFaith of the OT SaintsIsrael, JerichoLow.
Hebrews 11:31Joshua 2; 6:22-25Narrative allusionFaith of the OT SaintsRahabMedium; a Gentile woman commended for faith — connects thematically to the baseline’s unity_of_jews_and_gentiles doctrine field (High, Romans baseline).
Hebrews 11:32-38Judges (Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah); 1 Samuel (Samuel, David); Daniel 3, 6; 1 Kings 17-19, 2 Kings 2 (Elijah/Elisha); extrabiblical martyrdom tradition (“sawn in two,” associated in later Jewish tradition with Isaiah)Narrative allusion, extended listFaith of the OT Saints; Perseverance under SufferingGideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, the prophets, the three in the furnace, Daniel, Elijah, ElishaMedium-High; the martyrdom catalogue (stoned, sawn in two, killed with the sword, destitute, afflicted, mistreated) is theologically important background for the danger-of-apostasy/perseverance doctrine cluster and for Hebrews 13:13’s call to bear reproach; note that “sawn in two” reflects extra-canonical martyrology tradition rather than an OT narrative explicitly recorded, and should be flagged for a brief explanatory footnote rather than treated as a direct canonical citation.
Hebrews 12:2(Allusion) Gospel Passion narrativesNarrative allusionChrist’s Endurance / Model for PerseveranceChristHigh; “endured the cross, despising the shame” (십자가를 참으사 부끄러움을 개의치 아니하시더니) connects directly to the Gospel crucifixion accounts across Matthew, Mark, Luke, John in this curriculum and to Korea’s face/shame cultural register (see 08_core_glossary.md #12:2 note).
Hebrews 12:5-6Proverbs 3:11-12Direct quotationPerseverance and Assurance / Divine DisciplineGod (as Father)High; reuses 아버지 (Critical) and 양자 (High); must be rendered so discipline (징계) reads as loving formation, not rejection.
Hebrews 12:12Isaiah 35:3Direct quotation (adapted)Perseverance and AssuranceLow-Medium; “strengthen the weak knees” is an exhortation drawn from an eschatological-restoration passage.
Hebrews 12:13Proverbs 4:26Direct quotation (adapted)Perseverance and AssuranceLow.
Hebrews 12:15Deuteronomy 29:18Direct quotation (adapted)Danger of ApostasyMedium; “root of bitterness” warns against covenant-community members who turn from God, directly relevant to the apostasy-warning doctrine cluster.
Hebrews 12:16-17Genesis 25:29-34; 27:30-40Narrative allusionDanger of ApostasyEsau, Jacob, IsaacHigh; Esau’s forfeited birthright and blessing function as Hebrews’ clearest OT type of apostasy’s tragic finality; must be taught carefully alongside assurance material (per the doctrine risk registry’s note on 배교/apostasy requiring theologian review).
Hebrews 12:18-21Exodus 19:12-13, 16-19; Exodus 20:18-21; Deuteronomy 4:11-12; 5:22-27; 9:19Narrative allusion, extendedNew Covenant versus Old; Access to GodMoses, Israel at SinaiCritical — the Sinai theophany (terror, fire, trumpet, God’s voice) is the direct rhetorical foil to the “Mount Zion” description in 12:22-24; this contrast is one of the book’s climactic arguments and must render with full force on both poles (terrifying Sinai vs. welcoming Zion) to preserve the argument’s logic.
Hebrews 12:20Exodus 19:12-13Direct quotationNew Covenant versus OldMoses, IsraelMedium.
Hebrews 12:21Deuteronomy 9:19Direct quotationNew Covenant versus OldMosesLow-Medium.
Hebrews 12:24Genesis 4:10 (contrastive allusion)AllusionOnce-for-All Atoning Sacrifice / New CovenantAbel, ChristCritical — “sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel” directly pairs with 11:4; must render 아벨의 피보다 더 나은 것을 말하는 뿌린 피 with the 더 나은 (Medium, comparative) term consistent with every other “better” occurrence in the book.
Hebrews 12:26Haggai 2:6Direct quotationPerseverance and Assurance / EschatologyMedium; “yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens” grounds the “unshakeable kingdom” (흔들리지 않는 나라, Low) of 12:28.
Hebrews 12:29Deuteronomy 4:24; 9:3Direct quotationPerseverance and AssuranceCritical (through 하나님, Critical); “our God is a consuming fire” balances the chapter’s warmth with holy fear — must not be omitted or softened as merely rhetorical.
Hebrews 13:2Genesis 18:1-8; 19:1-3Narrative allusionChristian Ethics / HospitalityAbraham, Lot, angelic visitorsLow; “entertained angels unawares” reuses 천사 (Medium).
Hebrews 13:5Deuteronomy 31:6, 8; Joshua 1:5Direct quotationPerseverance and AssuranceMoses, JoshuaHigh; “I will never leave you nor forsake you” — a covenant-faithfulness promise given first to Israel entering Canaan, now applied to all believers; grounds contentment ethics in God’s unchanging presence.
Hebrews 13:6Psalm 118:6Direct quotationPerseverance and AssuranceMedium.
Hebrews 13:11-13Leviticus 16:27 (Day of Atonement disposal); Gospel crucifixion-site accounts (e.g. John 19:17-20)Combined typological allusionAccess to God through Christ’s Blood; Danger of Apostasy (bearing reproach)Aaron, ChristCritical — “outside the camp” typologically fulfilled in Christ’s crucifixion “outside the gate”; must render consistently with any Gospel-curriculum treatment of the crucifixion location (Golgotha, outside Jerusalem’s walls) and reuse 진영 밖/성문 밖 (Medium-High, this curriculum) exactly.
Hebrews 13:15Psalm 50:14, 23; Hosea 14:2AllusionAccess to God through Christ’s Blood (redefinition of sacrifice)Critical — “sacrifice of praise… fruit of lips” reinterprets OT “sacrifice of thanksgiving” language as verbal praise under the new covenant; must render 찬송의 제사 with the redefinition made explicit per the core glossary’s note (#6).
Hebrews 13:20Isaiah 55:3; Ezekiel 37:26; Exodus 24:8 (echoed)Combined allusionAccess to God through Christ’s Blood; New CovenantGod, Christ (the Shepherd)Critical — “blood of the eternal covenant” (영원한 언약의 피) must render identically to Hebrews 9:20’s “blood of the covenant” phrase, with 영원한 (eternal) added consistently; “great Shepherd of the sheep” echoes Isaiah 63:11, Ezekiel 34:23, and Psalm 23 pastoral imagery.

Section 2 — Messianic Typology Summary

The following typological patterns recur across multiple chapters and must be taught as a coherent typological system, not isolated proof-texts:

Type (OT)Antitype (Christ)Key Hebrews PassagesKey OT PassagesTranslation Note
Melchizedek — a priest-king with no recorded genealogy, superior to Abraham/LeviChrist’s eternal, non-Levitical, unchangeable priesthoodHebrews 5:6, 10; 6:20; 7:1-28Genesis 14:17-20; Psalm 110:4멜기세덱 (Low) as proper noun; but the argument from silence (no genealogy) must be positively framed against Korea’s jokbo (족보) lineage-legitimacy culture (see 08_core_glossary.md #20).
The Aaronic/Levitical high priest entering the Most Holy Place once yearly with animal bloodChrist entering the heavenly sanctuary once, with his own blood, permanentlyHebrews 9:6-14, 24-28Leviticus 16Central to the 제사/대제사장/단번에 (all Critical) term cluster; the annual/once-for-all contrast is the chapter’s argumentative spine.
The Day of Atonement scapegoat and sin offering, whose bodies were burned “outside the camp”Christ’s suffering “outside the gate” of JerusalemHebrews 13:11-13Leviticus 16:27See Section 1 entry above; 진영 밖/성문 밖 (Medium-High).
The Passover/Sinai covenant-ratification blood (Exodus 24)The blood of the new covenant (echoed also at the Last Supper in the Gospels/1 Corinthians 11)Hebrews 9:18-22; 13:20Exodus 24:3-8언약의 피 (Critical) — cross-document consistency required with Gospel Last Supper texts.
The wilderness generation’s forfeited entry into Canaan through unbeliefThe greater “rest” believers may forfeit through unbelief/apostasyHebrews 3:7-4:11Numbers 14; Psalm 95안식 (High); this is simultaneously typology and direct warning-passage application.
The bronze/copper tabernacle and its furnishings, a “copy and shadow”The heavenly sanctuary, the true tabernacleHebrews 8:1-5; 9:1-10, 23-24Exodus 25:40장막/성막, 모형/그림자 (Medium); governs the whole ch. 8-10 argument.
Moses as a faithful servant “in” God’s houseChrist as the faithful Son “over” God’s houseHebrews 3:1-6Numbers 12:7하나님의 집 (Medium); a superiority argument, not a denigration of Moses’ genuine faithfulness.
Abraham’s near-sacrifice of Isaac, “as good as dead,” received back “figuratively”Foreshadows resurrection faith and, typologically, the Father’s giving of the SonHebrews 11:17-19Genesis 22:1-18High; must not overstate the typology into a strict one-to-one substitutionary reading beyond what the text itself claims (the author’s own point is resurrection-faith, not substitutionary atonement per se here).
The “righteous shall live by faith” pattern of the OT righteous remnant (Habakkuk)The perseverance of NT believers who do not “shrink back”Hebrews 10:37-39Habakkuk 2:3-4Critical; shared with Romans 1:17 and Galatians 3:11 — see Section 4 rendering rule below.

Section 3 — Cross-Curriculum Parallels (Romans and Other Documented Curricula)

Per the curriculum tag list in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md (Romans, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians), the following parallels require rendering coordination between Hebrews and these other documents when they are produced.

Hebrews PassageParallel Passage(s)Shared Term/ThemeRendering-Consistency Requirement
Hebrews 10:37-38Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11”The righteous shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4)MUST render 의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라 identically in all three curricula; this is flagged in the baseline (12_ai_translation_requirements.md) as a “same rendering across all documents” requirement for Romans 1:16-17 and must extend to Hebrews and Galatians.
Hebrews 11:8-19Romans 4:1-25; Galatians 3:6-9Abraham’s faith; Genesis 15:6/22 backgroundBoth Hebrews 11 and Romans 4 treat Abraham’s faith, but with different emphases (Hebrews: persevering trust and hope in resurrection; Romans/Galatians: forensic imputed righteousness via Genesis 15:6). Do NOT import 의로 여기심 (imputed_righteousness, Critical, Romans baseline) into Hebrews 11 renderings unless the Hebrews text itself makes the forensic point — Hebrews’ own vocabulary here is 믿음으로 (by faith) and 이루어질 줄로 여겼으니 (considered/reckoned, a related but contextually distinct usage from Romans 4:3’s technical imputation formula). Translators should note the family resemblance without collapsing the two books’ distinct rhetorical purposes.
Hebrews 9:5 (mercy seat, 속죄소)Romans 3:25 (ἱλαστήριον, “propitiation”)Same Greek root ἱλαστήριον/ἱλάσκομαιRomans 3:25 uses ἱλαστήριον Christologically (“God put forward [Christ] as a propitiation”); Hebrews 9:5 uses the same word of the OT ark’s literal mercy seat, and Hebrews 2:17 uses the cognate verb ἱλάσκεσθαι of Christ’s priestly work. All three must be recognized as one semantic family; Korean renderings (속죄소 for the object, 속량/화목제물 for the Christological application) must be cross-checked for consistency once the Romans 3:25 Korean rendering is finalized in Phase 2, since Romans 3:25 is not included with a fixed rendering in the current baseline translation_memory.json and will need one recorded that aligns with Hebrews’ 속죄소/속량 vocabulary.
Hebrews 9:15, 15-17 (“mediator,” 중보자)1 Timothy 2:5 (outside this curriculum, referenced for completeness); Galatians 3:19-20Christ as sole mediator중보자 (High, this curriculum) should be checked against any future Galatians-curriculum rendering of μεσίτης in Galatians 3:19-20, which discusses Moses’ mediatorial role at Sinai — a natural point of comparison to Hebrews’ Christ-as-mediator argument.
Hebrews 9:20; 13:20 (“blood of the covenant,” 언약의 피)Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:24; Luke 22:20; 1 Corinthians 11:25Institution of the Lord’s Supper, echoing Exodus 24:8MUST render 언약의 피 (and its Supper-context expansions, e.g. “이것은 내 피니 언약의 피니라” / “새 언약”) identically across Hebrews and all Gospel/1 Corinthians Supper-institution texts in this pipeline. This is the single highest-priority cross-curriculum consistency requirement generated by this analysis.
Hebrews 10:19-22 (access through the veil/curtain, torn flesh)Matthew 27:51; Mark 15:38; Luke 23:45 (temple veil torn at the crucifixion)휘장 (veil/curtain, High)Hebrews 10:20 identifies Christ’s flesh with “the curtain,” directly echoing the Synoptic accounts of the temple veil tearing at the moment of his death. Render 휘장 identically across Hebrews and the Synoptic Gospel curricula; the theological link between these passages should be made explicit in teaching notes.
Hebrews 8-10 (new covenant, veil, glory fading)2 Corinthians 3:6-18New covenant ministry; veil imagery; fading glory of the old covenantBoth texts use veil imagery for the old covenant’s limitations, though 2 Corinthians 3 uses it of Moses’ veiled face (Exodus 34) rather than the tabernacle curtain. Distinguish these as related but not identical images when the 2 Corinthians curriculum is produced; do not merge the two veil-referents under a single Korean term without a clarifying note.
Hebrews 12:18-24 (Sinai versus Zion)Galatians 4:21-31 (two covenants, Sinai and the Jerusalem above); Galatians 3:11Old covenant/new covenant contrast; law versus promiseBoth passages contrast an earthly, fear-inducing Sinai-covenant reality with a heavenly, grace-based reality; when the Galatians curriculum is produced, cross-check that 시온 산/하늘의 예루살렘 language and Galatians’ “Jerusalem above” (위에 있는 예루살렘) do not conflict in rendering.
Hebrews 4:14-16; 10:19-22 (bold access to God, “throne of grace”)Romans 5:1-2 (peace with God, access by faith into grace); Ephesians 2:18; 3:12Access to God through Christ은혜의 보좌 (throne of grace, Critical through 은혜) and Romans’ 화평 (peace with God, Medium) both describe the same reconciled-access reality from different angles; Ephesians 2:18’s “access… to the Father” (아버지께 나아감) should render with the same 나아가다 (draw near/approach) verb family used in Hebrews 4:16 and 10:22 for consistency of the “access” motif across curricula.
Hebrews 3:7-4:11 (wilderness generation, rest)1 Corinthians 10:1-11Wilderness generation as a warning typeBoth texts treat the wilderness generation as a typological warning to the church; 1 Corinthians 10:4’s “the Rock was Christ” adds a Christological dimension not explicit in Hebrews — flag for consistency check when the 1 Corinthians curriculum is produced, particularly around 시험 (testing) and 넘어지다 (falling) vocabulary.
Hebrews 1:1-3 (Son as radiance of God’s glory, sustaining all things)John 1:1-14 (the Word became flesh); Romans 1:3-4Deity and incarnation of Christ영광의 광채/본체의 형상 (Critical) and John’s 말씀이 육신이 되어 (the Word became flesh, reusing 성육신, Critical baseline) both open their respective books with a dense Christological prologue; ensure these are read as complementary, not competing, formulations when the John curriculum is produced.
Hebrews 2:14-18 (Christ shared in flesh and blood to destroy the devil’s power over death)Romans 8:3 (God sending his Son in the likeness of sinful flesh); baseline incarnation doctrine fieldIncarnation and its purposeReuses 성육신 (Critical, baseline); Hebrews adds the specific purpose clause (defeating the one who holds the power of death) not explicit in Romans 8:3 — a complementary emphasis, not a contradiction, to be noted in teaching material.
Hebrews 12:5-11 (divine discipline, sonship)Romans 8:15-17 (Spirit of adoption, “Abba, Father,” fellow heirs)Adoption/sonship and its outworking양자 (High, baseline) grounds both passages; Hebrews adds the disciplinary dimension (징계, High) as evidence of genuine sonship, complementing Romans 8’s assurance emphasis.
Hebrews 11:32-38 (catalogue of suffering faith)Acts 7:2-53 (Stephen’s speech, a similar OT-history survey: Abraham, Joseph, Moses, the tabernacle, the prophets)Shared OT-history survey pattern; suffering for faithfulnessWhen the Acts curriculum is produced, note that Stephen’s speech traverses much of the same historical ground (Abraham, Moses, tabernacle) as Hebrews 11 and 8-9; consistent proper-noun and event-vocabulary rendering (아브라함, 모세, 성막, etc.) should be verified across both documents.

Section 4 — Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations

The following rules are binding for Phase 2 translation whenever these specific quotations, titles, or formulas recur across Hebrews and any other curriculum document in this pipeline:

  1. Habakkuk 2:4 / “the righteous shall live by faith” (Hebrews 10:38; Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11) — render 의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라 identically in all three occurrences. This is a Critical-risk, non-negotiable consistency rule inherited directly from the baseline’s Romans 1:16-17 requirement.

  2. Psalm 110:1 / “sit at my right hand” (Hebrews 1:13; also echoed in Romans 8:34, Matthew 22:44, Acts 2:34-35, 1 Corinthians 15:25, Ephesians 1:20 when those curricula are produced) — render 내 우편에 앉으라 (or the equivalent enthronement clause) consistently; do not vary the verb or honorific form between occurrences.

  3. Psalm 110:4 / “a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek” (Hebrews 5:6, 5:10, 6:20, 7:17, 7:21) — render 멜기세덱의 서열을 따라 영원한 제사장 (or an agreed fixed variant) identically at every one of its five occurrences within Hebrews itself before any cross-document concern arises; internal consistency within this single book is itself Critical given how load-bearing this citation is to the ch. 5-7 argument.

  4. Jeremiah 31:31-34 / the New Covenant oracle (Hebrews 8:8-12; repeated in part at 10:16-17) — render the full oracle identically at both occurrences within Hebrews; key clauses (“새 언약을 맺으리라,” “내가 그들의 죄를 다시 기억하지 아니하리라,” “그들의 마음에 내 법을 기록하리라”) are fixed phrases.

  5. Exodus 24:8 / “blood of the covenant” (Hebrews 9:20; 13:20 with “eternal” added; echoed in the Last Supper institution texts of Matthew 26:28, Mark 14:24, Luke 22:20, and 1 Corinthians 11:25) — render 언약의 피 (and 영원한 언약의 피 at 13:20) identically across every occurrence in every curriculum document; this is the single highest cross-curriculum priority identified in this analysis, since the phrase deliberately links the Sinai covenant, the Last Supper, and Hebrews’ theology of Christ’s blood into one continuous scriptural thread.

  6. Genesis 4:10 / the blood of Abel (Hebrews 11:4; 12:24) — render the contrast (“아벨의 피보다 더 나은 것을 말하는 뿌린 피”) so that both Hebrews occurrences are recognizably paired; 더 나은 (better) must match its rendering everywhere else the comparative runs through the book (see rule 8).

  7. Deuteronomy 32:35-36 / “vengeance is mine… the Lord will judge his people” (Hebrews 10:30; also quoted in Romans 12:19) — render identically across Hebrews and Romans; check the Romans 12:19 Korean rendering (not yet fixed in the current baseline translation_memory.json) and record a single agreed rendering usable in both documents during Phase 2.

  8. κρείττων / “better” — although not a quotation per se, this comparative adjective functions as a fixed rhetorical marker throughout Hebrews (better covenant, promises, sacrifices, hope, country, resurrection, word — 1:4; 6:9; 7:7, 19, 22; 8:6; 9:23; 10:34; 11:16, 35, 40; 12:24) and must render as 더 나은 consistently at every occurrence; inconsistent translation would obscure the book’s cumulative superiority argument, which is also the curriculum’s overarching doctrinal theme.

  9. σκιά/ὑπόδειγμα/ἀντίτυπος — “shadow/copy/pattern” (Hebrews 8:5; 9:23-24; 10:1) — render with a consistent Korean pairing (모형, 그림자) distinguishing “shadow” (임시적 예표) from “copy/antitype” (실물에 대응하는 모형) without conflating either with the “true/real” (참된, 실제의) pole of the contrast.

  10. Proper nouns and established transliterations — all names shared with Romans and the other pipeline curricula (다윗, 아브라함, 모세, 이스라엘, 예수, 그리스도) must use the exact baseline KRV forms; no new transliteration may be introduced for any name already fixed in translation_memory.json.

Section 5 — Citation Normalization Conventions

  • All citations in Phase 1 analysis documents use the normalizable English form: Book Chapter:Verse (e.g., Hebrews 9:11, Genesis 15:6, Habakkuk 2:4).
  • Multi-verse ranges use a hyphen without spaces: Hebrews 8:8-12.
  • Discontinuous verse sets use a comma: Hebrews 11:17, 19.
  • In Phase 2 final Korean-language output, all citations convert to Korean Revised Version book-name conventions per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md’s Cross-Reference Preservation Rules (e.g., 히브리서 9:11, 창세기 15:6, 하박국 2:4), retaining Arabic verse numerals.
  • Where this document references a passage from a curriculum not yet translated (e.g., a future Galatians or 1 Corinthians document), the citation is recorded in English form as a forward-compatibility placeholder; the Korean rendering is deferred to that curriculum’s own Phase 1/Phase 2 cycle but MUST be checked against the consistency rules recorded in Section 4 above at that time.
  • Old Testament book names follow the Korean Revised Version’s established short-form abbreviations where the destination document uses abbreviated in-text citation (e.g., 창 15:6 for 창세기 15:6); Phase 2 translators should default to the unabbreviated form unless the source document itself abbreviates.

Coverage Confirmation

Every chapter of Hebrews (1–13) has been surveyed for Old Testament quotations and allusions in Section 1; no chapter was found to contain zero OT reference material — even the most exhortation-heavy closing chapter (13) contains multiple direct quotations and typological allusions. Messianic typology has been consolidated in Section 2. Cross-curriculum parallels to Romans and to the other nine documented curricula in this language pipeline’s tag list are recorded in Section 3, with binding rendering-consistency rules in Section 4.
