Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis — Gospel of John (English → Korean)
This document is the full-book doctrine matrix for the Gospel of John (chapters 1–21), produced under PRD Phase 1 Step 4. It is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: the same 26 doctrines, the same risk tiers, the same review routing, and the same Korean-specific collision notes. This document adds (a) a chapter-by-chapter walkthrough demonstrating full-book coverage, and (b) a consolidated master matrix suitable for Phase 2 routing reference. It must never be edited to contradict doctrine_risk_registry.json; if a discrepancy is ever found, the registry is authoritative and this document must be corrected to match it.
The core passage, John 3:1–21 (the New Birth and God’s love for the world), is the theological anchor of the curriculum, but every chapter of John has been reviewed for load-bearing doctrinal and terminological content, per the full-book coverage mandate.
Part 1 — Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrine Coverage
Every chapter 1–21 is reviewed below. Where a chapter carries new doctrinal weight, the relevant doctrine(s) from the master matrix (Part 2) are cited by name. Where a chapter’s content is already fully covered by a doctrine documented elsewhere and introduces no new risk, this is stated explicitly rather than silently omitted.

Part 2 — Master Doctrine Matrix
Risk tiers, doctrine names, key terms, primary passages, and review routing below are reproduced exactly from assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json and must not be altered independently of that file. “Translation Risk” summarizes the Korean-specific collision risk documented there.
| # | Doctrine | Supporting Passages (John) | Risk | Translation Risk (Korean-specific) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Deity and Pre-existence of Christ (the Word) | 1:1–3; 1:14; 1:18; 3:13; 3:31; 5:26; 8:58; 17:5 | Critical | 말씀 (Logos) risks conflation with 도 (Confucian/Daoist “the Way”), sharpened by the well-known cult-recruitment phrase “도를 아십니까?”; the absolute “I am” (8:58) must render with 있다 to preserve Exodus 3:14 self-existence, not read as a mere comparative age claim. | Human theologian |
| 2 | Incarnation of the Word | 1:14 | High | NEVER 화신 (a Buddhist avatar/incarnation-of-a-buddha concept, provisional and repeatable); the Word’s incarnation is permanent and unique. Must stay distinct from the negative fallen-flesh sense of σάρξ in 3:6. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Sonship of Christ | 1:14; 1:18; 1:49; 3:16; 3:18; 20:31 | High | Korea’s Dangun/Hwanung founding-myth echo (son of heavenly god Hwanin) is legendary, not a living state ideology; 독생자 must denote unique, eternal, natural Sonship, distinct from believers’ adoptive sonship (양자) and from the founder-myth pattern. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Deity of Christ — Equality with God | 5:18; 10:30–33; 20:28 | Critical | Must retain full ontological equality with God, not merely an elevated or especially powerful spirit-figure — a softening risk given Korean shamanism’s hierarchy of increasingly powerful spirits. 20:28 applies both Critical baseline terms 주님 and 하나님 directly to Jesus. | Human theologian |
| 5 | The New Birth and Regeneration by the Spirit | 3:3–8; 3:36 | Critical | 거듭나다 conveys only “again,” not ἄνωθεν’s “from above” sense — must be taught explicitly so the doctrine is never assimilated to Buddhist 윤회/환생 as a repeatable process. “Water and Spirit” must not be read as shamanistic ritual purification (부정을 씻다). | Human theologian |
| 6 | Eternal Life through Faith in Christ | 3:15–16; 3:36; 4:14; 5:24; 6:35–68; 11:25–26; 17:3; 20:31 | Critical | 영생 must be distinguished from (a) Buddhist/folk soteriology’s view of endless samsaric existence as a problem to escape, and (b) the folk-Daoist 불로장생 (immortality-elixir) tradition. John 17:3 supplies the Gospel’s own relational definition. | Human theologian |
| 7 | God’s Love for the World | 3:16–17; 4:42; 13:34; 15:9–13 | High | κόσμος is genuinely dual-sense in Korean as in Greek (object of God’s love vs. hostile world-system); explicit contextual disambiguation required at every occurrence to prevent reading 3:16 as endorsing the world-system. | Human theologian |
| 8 | Judgment and Belief/Unbelief | 3:17–21; 3:36; 5:24–29; 9:39–41; 12:31; 12:40; 16:8 | High | 심판 must NEVER be framed as impersonal karmic retribution (인과응보); Johannine judgment is relational, based on response to Christ, executed by a personal God. Light/darkness antithesis must not soften into 음양-style complementary balance. | Human theologian |
| 9 | The Seven “I Am” Statements | 6:35,48; 8:12; 8:58; 10:7,9; 10:11,14; 11:25; 14:6; 15:1,5 | Critical | Absolute “I am” (8:58, etc.) must render with 있다, echoing Exodus 3:14, not a bare copula; the crowd’s stoning attempt (8:59) and guards falling backward (18:6) confirm contemporaries heard a deity claim. Six predicated statements require one consistent parallel structure (나는 ~이다/이니) across all documents. | Human theologian |
| 10 | The Holy Spirit as Counselor | 3:5; 7:38–39; 14:16–17; 14:26; 15:26; 16:7–15; 20:22 | Critical | 보혜사/성령 must never be framed as a generic shamanistic helper-spirit, ancestral spirit, or channeled spirit-guide (cf. mudang practice with 신령/수호신 during 굿); the Spirit is the personal, divine third Person continuing Christ’s presence and advocacy. | Human theologian |
| 11 | Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection | 1:29,36; 3:14; 10:11; 12:32–34; 19:16–37; 20:1–29 | Critical | The Lamb of God’s sacrifice must be taught as God’s own unique, sufficient provision — explicitly reversing the direction of Korean shamanistic gut-ritual animal offerings made by humans to appease spirits. 다 이루었다 (19:30) must retain completed, once-for-all force. 부활 never rendered 환생/윤회. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Unity of the Father and the Son | 10:30; 14:10–11; 17:11; 17:21–22 | Critical | 나와 아버지는 하나이다 must convey unity of divine essence with distinction of persons, NOT Korean folk-monistic/Buddhist non-dual “all is one” concepts (e.g., popular 불이/무아 renderings in some new religious movements). Neither two gods nor an undifferentiated being. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Witness and Testimony to Christ | 1:7–8,15,19,32,34; 3:11; 5:31–39; 8:14–18; 15:26–27 | Medium | 증언/증거 must retain courtroom/eyewitness force, not soften into mere opinion or impression; recurs across chs. 1, 3, 5, 8, 15 and requires consistent rendering. | Native speaker review |
| 14 | Light and Darkness Dualism | 1:4–9; 3:19–21; 8:12; 9:1–41; 12:35–36,46 | Medium | 빛/어둠 must stay a moral-spiritual antithesis (light exposes culpable sin; darkness is willed rebellion), not soften into Korea’s yin-yang-adjacent 음양 concept of complementary, non-moral cosmic balance. | Native speaker review |
| 15 | Truth Embodied in Christ | 1:14,17; 3:21; 8:32; 14:6; 14:17; 16:13; 18:37–38 | High | 진리 must be distinguished from a generic Confucian/philosophical abstract 道 detached from a personal God — the same collision risk flagged for 말씀 (Logos). Truth in John is always personally anchored in Christ. | Human theologian |
| 16 | True Worship in Spirit and Truth | 4:20–24; 9:38 | High | 예배/경배 must be distinguished from ancestor-rite worship (제사, cf. baseline father Critical caution) and from shamanistic spirit-appeasement in 굿 ritual; true worship is relational engagement with a personal, spiritual God, not location-bound ritual performance. | Human theologian |
| 17 | Grace and Truth as Fulfillment of the Law | 1:14–17 | Critical | 은혜 must retain baseline Critical-risk force as unearned, non-transactional favor, resisting 기복신앙 (fortune-seeking faith); 1:17 must be taught as Christ FULFILLING the Law (율법) through grace and truth, not rejecting or opposing it. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Signs and Belief | 2:11,23; 3:2; 4:54; 9:1–41; 12:37; 20:30–31 | Medium | 표적 must be kept distinct from shamanistic power-display (영력, cf. baseline power_of_god caution) or mere magic trick (마술); signs point to Christ’s identity and produce genuine faith, not personal wonder-working prestige. | Native speaker review |
| 19 | Children of God (Adoptive Family through New Birth) | 1:12–13; 3:3–8 | High | 하나님의 자녀 must be clearly distinguished from Christ’s unique natural Sonship (독생자); connects to baseline adoption caution that Korea’s historic instrumental heir-adoption (for continuing 제사 ancestor-rites) risks reducing this relational, gracious sonship to an instrumental family-continuation arrangement. | Human theologian |
| 20 | The Good Shepherd’s Substitutionary Love | 10:1–18 | Critical | 선한 목자는 목숨을 버리거니와 must retain voluntary, substitutionary self-giving, contrasted with the 삯꾼 (hired hand) who lacks ownership-level commitment; doubly weighted as both an “I Am” saying and the clearest shepherd-atonement image. | Human theologian |
| 21 | Abiding in Christ | 15:1–10 | High | 거하다 denotes commanded, life-giving relational DEPENDENCE — the theological opposite of the Buddhist ideal of non-attachment/non-clinging (무집착, 집착을 버림). Teaching must make explicit that biblical abiding is commanded and life-giving, not clinging to be transcended. | Human theologian |
| 22 | Costly Discipleship and Servanthood | 9:22; 13:1–17,34–35; 15:13–15; 21:19,22 | Medium | 종 should retain full “slave/bondservant” force rather than a merely voluntary-employee sense, while distinguished from Confucian hierarchical-status servitude (cf. baseline obedience_of_faith caution); social cost of confession (9:22) is real, not merely rhetorical. | Native speaker review |
| 23 | Unity of Jews and Gentiles (One Flock, One Shepherd) | 10:16; 11:51–52; 12:20–24 | High | 한 무리와 한 목자 must avoid ethnic-particularist softening, paralleling the baseline caution against Korea’s ethnic-nationalist 단일민족 (“single, homogeneous ethnic nation”) self-conception, which risks an ethnic-insider reading rather than the Gospel’s universal ingathering. | Human theologian |
| 24 | Confession of Christ’s Deity (Thomas) | 20:24–29 | Critical | 나의 주님이시요 나의 하나님이시니이다 combines two already-Critical baseline terms applied directly to Jesus in personal worship-address; positioned before the purpose statement (20:30–31), it is the Gospel’s climactic deity confession and must never be softened toward a merely honorific/exclamatory reading. | Human theologian |
| 25 | Mission and Sending | 4:34–38; 13:16; 17:18; 20:21 | Medium | As with the baseline mission doctrine, Korea’s leading missionary-sending church culture creates a success-and-growth-oriented risk rather than a foreign-stigma risk; teaching should emphasize gospel-motivated sending (“as the Father sent me, I send you,” 20:21) over numbers-driven achievement. | Native speaker review |
| 26 | The Wrath and Judgment of God on Unbelief | 3:18; 3:36; 5:24; 9:39–41 | High | 하나님의 진노 must be a personal, righteous judicial response of a personal God to unbelief specifically, not an impersonal karmic force (인과응보) operating automatically apart from relationship with God — same collision caution as Judgment and Belief/Unbelief above. | Human theologian |
Part 3 — Risk Summary (must match doctrine_risk_registry.json)
| Risk Tier | Count | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 11 | Human theologian, every occurrence |
| High | 10 | Human theologian |
| Medium | 5 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 0 | Automated review |
| Total | 26 | 21 theologian / 5 native speaker |
This matches the risk_summary block of assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json exactly: Critical: 11, High: 10, Medium: 5, Low: 0, total_requiring_theologian_review: 21, total_requiring_native_speaker_review: 5, total_automated_only: 0.
Part 4 — Relationship to Baseline Romans Doctrines
Several John doctrines directly extend baseline Romans doctrines and must never contradict the baseline’s Korean-specific cautions:
- Grace and Truth as Fulfillment of the Law extends baseline
grace(Critical, 기복신앙 non-transactional caution) and baselinelaw(율법, not Confucian ritual-propriety code). - Children of God (Adoptive Family through New Birth) extends baseline
adoption(양자, instrumental-heir-adoption/제사 caution). - Confession of Christ’s Deity (Thomas) combines baseline
lord(주님) and baselinegod(하나님), both already Critical. - The Wrath and Judgment of God on Unbelief and Judgment and Belief/Unbelief both extend the general personal-God-vs-impersonal-fate caution documented under baseline
providence(섭리) andcalling/called(against 팔자/운명). - Mission and Sending extends baseline
mission(선교) and its achievement-culture caution. - Unity of Jews and Gentiles (One Flock, One Shepherd) extends baseline
gentiles(이방인) and its 단일민족 caution. - Costly Discipleship and Servanthood extends baseline
obedience_of_faith(믿음의 순종) and its Confucian hierarchical-compliance caution.

Critical Risk Doctrines
The Deity and Pre-existence of Christ (the Word)
Korean name: 그리스도(말씀)의 신성과 선재
Key terms: word_logos, word_was_god, i_am_absolute, life_in_himself, glory
Review routing: Human theologian
The single highest-stakes risk is 말씀 (Logos) potentially being conflated with 도 (Do, ‘the Way’), the Confucian/Daoist term for an impersonal cosmic ordering principle — a danger sharpened in Korea by the well-known syncretistic cult recruitment phrase ‘도를 아십니까?’ Additionally, the absolute ‘I am’ sayings (8:58 etc.) echo Exodus 3:14’s divine self-existence and must render with 있다 rather than a bare copula so self-existence is not read as a mere comparative claim about age or precedence.
Deity of Christ — Equality with God
Korean name: 그리스도의 신성 — 하나님과 동등하심
Key terms: equal_with_god, my_lord_and_my_god, father_son_one
Review routing: Human theologian
Must retain full ontological equality with God, not merely an especially powerful or elevated spirit-figure — a softening risk given Korean shamanism’s hierarchy of increasingly powerful spirits. Thomas’s confession (20:28) directly applies both baseline Critical terms 주님 and 하나님 to Jesus and is the Gospel’s climactic worship-confession of deity.
The New Birth and Regeneration by the Spirit
Korean name: 거듭남과 성령으로 말미암은 중생
Key terms: born_again, water_and_spirit, flesh_fallen, wind_spirit_wordplay
Review routing: Human theologian
거듭나다 lexically conveys only the ‘again’ sense of ἄνωθεν, not the ‘from above’ (heavenly-origin) sense; teaching must supply this explicitly so the doctrine is never assimilated to Buddhist 윤회 (reincarnation cycle) or 환생 (rebirth) as a repeatable process. ‘Water and Spirit’ must not be taught as a shamanistic ritual-purification rite (부정을 씻다) or a two-step ritual-then-spiritual formula.
Eternal Life through Faith in Christ
Korean name: 그리스도를 믿음으로 얻는 영생
Key terms: eternal_life, believe_verb, living_water, words_of_eternal_life, i_am_bread_of_life, i_am_resurrection_life, i_am_way_truth_life
Review routing: Human theologian
영생 carries two live Korean collision risks: (1) Buddhist/folk soteriology treats endless existence in samsara as the problem to be escaped, so eternal life must be taught as itself the relational gift, not a feared endless cycle; (2) Korea’s popular 불로장생 (immortality/longevity-elixir) folk-Daoist tradition must be explicitly distinguished from 영생, which is relational union with God through Christ, not unaging biological extension through spiritual technique. John 17:3 supplies the Gospel’s own authoritative definition (knowing the Father and the Son).
The Seven ‘I Am’ Statements
Korean name: 일곱 가지 ‘나는 ~이다’ 선언
Key terms: i_am_absolute, i_am_bread_of_life, i_am_light_of_world, i_am_door, i_am_good_shepherd, i_am_resurrection_life, i_am_way_truth_life, i_am_true_vine
Review routing: Human theologian
The absolute, unpredicated ‘I am’ (8:58 etc.) must render with 있다 to echo Exodus 3:14’s divine self-existence, not a bare copula that would read as an ordinary comparative claim; the crowd’s stoning attempt (8:59) and the arresting party falling backward (18:6) are textual confirmations that first-century hearers understood this as a deity claim. The six predicated statements must all use a single consistent parallel grammatical structure (나는 ~이다/이니) across every document for cross-curriculum consistency.
The Holy Spirit as Counselor
Korean name: 보혜사이신 성령
Key terms: holy_spirit, paraclete, spirit_of_truth, rivers_of_living_water, receive_holy_spirit, convict_expose
Review routing: Human theologian
보혜사 and 성령 must never be framed as a generic spirit-guide, ancestral spirit, or channeled helper-spirit as understood in Korean shamanism, where a mudang claims aid from or possession by various spirits (신령/수호신) during a 굿 ritual. The Spirit is the personal, divine third Person of the Trinity continuing Christ’s own presence and advocacy, not a channeled power source.
Christ’s Substitutionary Death and Resurrection
Korean name: 그리스도의 대속적 죽음과 부활
Key terms: lamb_of_god, lifted_up, good_shepherd_lays_down_life, it_is_finished, crucify, resurrection, blood_and_water
Review routing: Human theologian
The Lamb of God’s sacrifice must be taught as God’s own unique, sufficient provision, explicitly distinguished from Korean shamanistic gut-ritual animal offerings made by humans to appease spirits — here God himself provides the sacrifice, reversing the shamanistic pattern’s direction entirely. 다 이루었다 (John 19:30) must retain the perfect-tense sense of a fully sufficient, completed, once-for-all redemptive accomplishment. 부활 must never be rendered with 환생 or 윤회.
Unity of the Father and the Son
Korean name: 아버지와 아들의 하나 되심
Key terms: father_son_one, mutual_indwelling, that_they_may_be_one
Review routing: Human theologian
나와 아버지는 하나이다 must be taught as unity of divine essence/nature with distinction of persons, and must NOT be conflated with Korean folk-monistic or Buddhist non-dual ‘all is one’ concepts (e.g., popular renderings of 불이/무아 non-duality) found in some Korean new religious movements. This is a Trinitarian unity-in-distinction claim, neither two separate gods nor a single undifferentiated being.
Grace and Truth as Fulfillment of the Law
Korean name: 율법의 성취인 은혜와 진리
Key terms: grace_and_truth, grace, law
Review routing: Human theologian
은혜 must retain its baseline Critical-risk force as unearned, non-transactional favor, resisting the 기복신앙 (fortune-seeking faith) transactional pattern; John 1:17 must be taught as Christ FULFILLING the Law (baseline 율법) through grace and truth, not rejecting or replacing it with something opposed to it.
The Good Shepherd’s Substitutionary Love
Korean name: 선한 목자의 대속적 사랑
Key terms: i_am_good_shepherd, good_shepherd_lays_down_life, hired_hand
Review routing: Human theologian
선한 목자는 목숨을 버리거니와 must retain the voluntary, substitutionary force of Christ’s self-giving, contrasted with the 삯꾼 (hired hand) who has no ownership-level commitment; this is doubly weighted as both an ‘I Am’ saying and the Gospel’s clearest shepherd-atonement image.
Confession of Christ’s Deity (Thomas)
Korean name: 도마의 그리스도 신성 고백
Key terms: my_lord_and_my_god, lord, god
Review routing: Human theologian
나의 주님이시요 나의 하나님이시니이다 combines two already-Critical baseline terms applied directly to Jesus in personal worship-address; positioned immediately before the Gospel’s purpose statement (20:30-31), it functions as the Gospel’s climactic deity confession and must never be softened toward a merely honorific or exclamatory reading.
High Risk Doctrines
Incarnation of the Word
Korean name: 말씀의 성육신
Key terms: incarnation, flesh_fallen
Review routing: Human theologian
NEVER 화신 (a Buddhist avatar/incarnation-of-a-buddha concept describing a provisional, repeatable manifestation); John’s incarnation is the eternal Word’s permanent, unique assumption of humanity. Must also be kept distinct from the negative, fallen sense of σάρξ used in John 3:6.
Sonship of Christ
Korean name: 그리스도의 아들 되심
Key terms: son_of_god, only_begotten, son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
Korea’s own founding myth (Dangun/Hwanung as son of the heavenly god Hwanin) offers a real but comparatively low-intensity legendary echo of a heaven-descended founder-son; 독생자 must be taught as denoting Christ’s unique, eternal, natural Sonship, categorically distinct from believers’ adoptive sonship (양자) and from any founder-myth pattern.
God’s Love for the World
Korean name: 세상을 향한 하나님의 사랑
Key terms: god_so_loved, world_humanity, world_hostile_system, love_agapao, savior_of_the_world
Review routing: Human theologian
세상 (kosmos) is genuinely dual-sense, just as in Greek: the object of God’s saving love (3:16) and the hostile world-system Satan rules (12:31, 15:18-19). Korean does not resolve this ambiguity lexically, so explicit contextual disambiguation is required in every occurrence to prevent readers from confusing ‘God loved the world’ with an endorsement of the world-system as such.
Judgment and Belief/Unbelief
Korean name: 심판과 믿음/불신앙
Key terms: judgment_krisis, already_condemned, light, darkness, wrath_of_god, blindness_spiritual
Review routing: Human theologian
심판 must NEVER be framed as impersonal karmic retribution (인과응보), a deeply entrenched Korean Buddhist-folk cause-and-effect concept operating apart from any personal God; Johannine judgment is relational, based on one’s response to Christ, executed by a personal God. Light/darkness dualism (3:19-21) must not be softened into Korea’s yin-yang-adjacent 음양 balance concept, where light and dark are complementary, non-moral cosmic forces rather than a morally loaded, culpable antithesis.
Truth Embodied in Christ
Korean name: 그리스도 안에 있는 진리
Key terms: truth, i_am_way_truth_life, grace_and_truth, spirit_of_truth
Review routing: Human theologian
진리 must be distinguished from a generic Confucian or philosophical abstract moral/cosmic notion of 道 detached from a personal God — the same collision risk flagged for 말씀 (Logos). In John, truth is always personally anchored in Christ himself.
True Worship in Spirit and Truth
Korean name: 영과 진리로 드리는 예배
Key terms: worship, spirit_and_truth
Review routing: Human theologian
예배/경배 must be distinguished from ritual worship of ancestors (제사, cf. baseline father Critical caution) and from spirit-appeasement performed in shamanistic 굿 ritual; true worship is relational engagement with the personal, spiritual God, not location-bound or ritual-performance-based.
Children of God (Adoptive Family through New Birth)
Korean name: 새롭게 나서 하나님의 자녀가 됨
Key terms: children_of_god, only_begotten, born_again
Review routing: Human theologian
하나님의 자녀 must be clearly distinguished from Christ’s unique natural Sonship (독생자); connects to baseline adoption doctrine and its caution that Korea’s historic instrumental heir-adoption practice (for continuing 제사 ancestor-rites) risks reducing this relational, gracious sonship to an instrumental family-continuation arrangement.
Abiding in Christ
Korean name: 그리스도 안에 거함
Key terms: abide_remain, i_am_true_vine, fruit
Review routing: Human theologian
거하다 denotes a positively commanded, life-giving relational DEPENDENCE that is the theological opposite of the Buddhist ideal of non-attachment/non-clinging (무집착, 집착을 버림), where continued attachment is viewed as the root of suffering to be released. Teaching must make explicit that biblical abiding is commanded and life-giving, not a form of clinging to be transcended.
Unity of Jews and Gentiles (One Flock, One Shepherd)
Korean name: 유대인과 이방인이 한 무리가 됨
Key terms: one_flock_one_shepherd, world_humanity
Review routing: Human theologian
한 무리와 한 목자 must avoid any ethnic-particularist softening, directly paralleling the baseline’s caution against Korea’s ethnic-nationalist 단일민족 (‘single, homogeneous ethnic nation’) self-conception, which risks reinforcing an ethnic-insider reading rather than the Gospel’s universal ingathering.
The Wrath and Judgment of God on Unbelief
Korean name: 불신앙에 대한 하나님의 진노와 심판
Key terms: wrath_of_god, already_condemned, judgment_krisis
Review routing: Human theologian
하나님의 진노 must be taught as a personal, righteous judicial response of a personal God to unbelief specifically, not an impersonal karmic force (인과응보) operating automatically apart from relationship with God — the same collision caution documented for judgment_krisis.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Witness and Testimony to Christ
Korean name: 그리스도에 대한 증언
Key terms: sign
Review routing: Native speaker review
증언/증거 must retain courtroom/eyewitness force, not soften into mere ‘opinion’ or ‘impression’; this is a major structural motif recurring across chapters 1, 3, 5, 8, and 15 and requires consistent rendering.
Light and Darkness Dualism
Korean name: 빛과 어둠의 대조
Key terms: light, darkness
Review routing: Native speaker review
빛/어둠 must be kept as a moral-spiritual antithesis (light exposes culpable sin; darkness is willed rebellion), not softened into Korea’s yin-yang-adjacent 음양 concept of complementary, non-moral cosmic balance.
Signs and Belief
Korean name: 표적과 믿음
Key terms: sign, believe_verb
Review routing: Native speaker review
표적 must be kept distinct from a shamanistic power-display (영력, cf. baseline power_of_god caution) or mere magic trick (마술); signs point to Christ’s identity, producing genuine faith, not personal wonder-working prestige.
Costly Discipleship and Servanthood
Korean name: 값비싼 제자도와 섬김
Key terms: slave_servant, put_out_of_synagogue, follow_me, new_commandment
Review routing: Native speaker review
종 should retain the fuller ‘slave/bondservant’ force rather than a merely voluntary employee sense, while being distinguished from Confucian hierarchical-status servitude (cf. baseline obedience_of_faith caution); the social cost of confession (9:22) should be taught as a real, not merely rhetorical, cost.
Mission and Sending
Korean name: 보내심을 받은 사명
Key terms: harvest, apostle_sent_one
Review routing: Native speaker review
As in the baseline mission doctrine, Korea’s leading missionary-sending church culture creates a success-and-growth-oriented risk rather than a foreign-stigma risk; teaching should emphasize gospel-motivated sending (‘as the Father sent me, I send you,’ 20:21) over numbers-driven achievement.
