Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Doctrine Analysis

Doctrine Analysis: 2 Thessalonians (English → Korean)

This document provides the complete chapter-by-chapter and section-by-section doctrine matrix for 2 Thessalonians, consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json. Doctrine names, risk tiers, and review routing below are identical to the registry; this document adds the supporting-passage mapping, section-level coverage, and translation-risk rationale required for Phase 2 routing decisions. No new doctrines or risk-tier changes are introduced here — this is the analytical justification layer beneath the registry.

1. Full-Book Doctrine Matrix

#DoctrineKorean Doctrine NameSupporting Passages (2 Thess)RiskTranslation Risk (Summary)Review Routing
1The Day of the Lord주의 날2:1-2Critical주의 날 must not soften into a generic “someday” or read through Korean folk-astrological day-selection (택일) practice; the “has already come” false claim being corrected must survive translation intact or Paul’s whole argument (vv.3-4) collapses.Human theologian
2The Man of Lawlessness불법의 사람2:3-4, 2:8-9Critical불법 must never be confused with 율법 (Mosaic Law) nor trivialized via secular-legal usage; self-deifying enthronement in God’s temple (2:4) must retain exact 하나님 naming to preserve the horror of the false claim.Human theologian
3The Apostasy (The Falling Away)배교2:3CriticalDenotes a decisive, corporate, climactic end-times falling-away, not ordinary individual doubt; a weaker term (이탈) would lose the religious-betrayal force needed as one of the two required precursor signs.Human theologian
4Satan’s Counterfeit Power and Signs사탄의 거짓 능력과 표적2:9-10CriticalStages the baseline’s Critical 능력 collision directly: Korean charismatic emphasis on 능력-language and church leaders’ own self-caution about power-ministry sliding toward shamanistic 영력-seeking requires explicit “false, satanic” framing, distinguished from folk 징조/점괘.Human theologian
5The Restrainer (Deliberate Ambiguity)막는 자/막는 것의 정체2:6-7CriticalThe Greek referent is intentionally ambiguous (neuter in v.6, masculine in v.7); Korean rendering must preserve this openness rather than presupposing an identity (e.g., pre-identifying as 성령), which would foreclose exegesis inside the translated text itself.Human theologian
6God’s Righteous Judgment하나님의 의로운 심판1:5-10, 2:10-12CriticalFuses two highest-risk terms — 의 (collision with 의리, loyalty-ethics) and 심판 (must avoid 인과응보 karmic-retribution and 액운 fatalistic-misfortune framings); must be taught as a personal God’s forensic verdict, vindicating and condemning.Human theologian
7God’s Judicial Sending of Delusion하나님의 심판적 미혹2:10-12CriticalSevere judicial-hardening act; 미혹 touches shamanistic spirit-affliction vocabulary — must be explicitly taught as God’s moral, sequential, judicial response to prior unbelief (v.10 precedes v.11), not an arbitrary curse.Human theologian
8Standing Firm in the Traditions전통(사도의 가르침)을 굳게 지킴2:15, 3:6, 3:14CriticalHighest Korean-context risk doctrine in the letter: 전통 evokes Confucian ancestral-rite custom (제사) and ritual propriety (예); readers could mishear “hold the traditions” as endorsing jesa-continuity rather than apostolic gospel teaching received from Paul. Every occurrence requires explicit sense-distinguishing teaching.Human theologian
9Perseverance under Persecution박해 속에서의 인내1:3-7High인내 must be distinguished from 한 (han, hopeless sorrowful endurance) and from Confucian honor-based stoicism; biblical endurance here is hope-fueled, grounded in Christ’s coming and God’s righteous judgment, not silent resignation.Human theologian
10Divine Vengeance and Retribution하나님의 보응1:6-9HighGod’s own righteous retribution (not human vengeance or impersonal 인과응보 cosmic payback); must be taught as a personal, judicial act reserved to God alone.Human theologian
11Eternal Destruction and Separation from God주의 얼굴을 떠나 받는 영원한 멸망1:9HighFinal, personal, relational separation from a personal God’s presence, not impersonal dissolution/non-self as could be misheard through a Buddhist annihilation lens; reuses 멸망 root shared with 2:3, 2:10 for thematic consistency.Human theologian
12Divine Calling and Being Counted Worthy부르심과 합당히 여기심1:5, 1:11, 2:14HighGod’s personal, gracious summons (2:14) must not be read as birth-chart fate (사주팔자); “counted worthy” must not be misread as human merit earning the calling but as evidence of God’s own gracious work in believers.Human theologian
13Election and Sanctification unto Salvation구원을 위한 선택과 성화2:13-14High선택 must not read as competitive merit-based selection (echoing Korea’s exam/hiring culture) or fate (팔자/운); 성화 must not reduce to ascetic self-cultivation (수행, 도 닦기); both anchor to God’s own prior unmerited initiative culminating in 구원.Human theologian
14Gospel Obedience and Judgment for Disobedience복음에 대한 순종과 불순종에 대한 심판1:8HighRefusal to obey the gospel (not imperfect obedience) draws judgment; must not reduce to hierarchical Confucian social-status compliance — this is decisive rejection of a personal God.Human theologian
15Assurance and Stability Amid Eschatological Confusion종말론적 혼란 속에서의 확신2:1-2HighThe false claim corrected is that the Day has already come (perfect-tense present-arrival claim), not merely “is near”; this precision must survive translation or vv.3-4’s argument becomes incoherent; must avoid feeding passive, fatalistic acceptance of any end-times teaching that arrives.Human theologian
16The Faithfulness of God Amid Persecution박해 중에도 신실하신 하나님3:3Medium신실하신 주님 describes God’s/Christ’s own unchanging character as the ground of assurance, not an ongoing 기복신앙 exchange judged by the believer’s maintenance; correct honorific verb form required.Native speaker review
17Comfort and Hope through Grace은혜로 말미암은 위로와 소망2:16-17Medium위로 must not conflate with 권면 (exhort) despite shared παρακαλέω root; “good hope through grace” must reinforce, not dilute, the Critical-tier 은혜 doctrine — hope from unearned favor, not 기복신앙 exchange.Native speaker review
18Church Discipline and Disorderly Conduct교회의 권징과 무질서한 행실3:6-15MediumIdleness fueled by eschatological over-excitement is framed as deviation from received apostolic tradition (v.6), reinforcing doctrine #8; discipline is corrective/relational (“warn as a brother,” v.15), not a shaming/체면 (face)-based ostracism.Native speaker review
19Grace and Peace (Epistolary Greeting)은혜와 평강의 인사1:2Medium은혜 requires full Critical-tier 기복신앙 caution even in fixed greeting form; 평강 (distinct from 화평, reserved for Rom 5:1 sense) is the established greeting-formula rendering, to be recorded consistently for future Pauline-corpus work.Native speaker review
20Church as God’s People하나님의 백성으로서의 교회1:1, 1:4, 2:13MediumNew covenant community, not a shamanistic village shrine (당집) or Buddhist temple institution (절); reuses baseline reasoning.Native speaker review
21Growth in Faith and Love믿음과 사랑의 성장1:3Medium사랑 (agapē) must anchor to self-giving, Spirit-produced NT sense, not ordinary romantic/familial usage; 믿음 continues baseline distinction from superstitious belief (미신) or folk-astrological confidence.Native speaker review
22Kingdom of God as the Goal of Present Suffering고난을 통한 하나님 나라를 향함1:5LowKorea has no live competing state ideology claiming a rival “divine kingdom” framing; comparatively low-risk per baseline reasoning.Automated review
23Thanksgiving for God’s Work in Believers성도 안에서 이루신 하나님의 일에 대한 감사1:3, 2:13LowStandard vocabulary; minor risk of generic secular gratitude detached from God specifically.Automated review
24Epistolary Authentication and Apostolic Authority사도의 친필 표와 권위2:2, 3:17LowPaul’s handwritten authentication mark (표) is an everyday, non-eschatological sense; must not be conflated with 2:9’s eschatological “signs and wonders” (표적).Automated review

Tier totals (matching registry doctrine count, n=24): Critical: 8 · High: 7 · Medium: 6 · Low: 3. (Note: the registry’s risk_summary block records slightly higher aggregate counts (High: 8, Medium: 7) than the 24 named doctrine entries strictly sum to; this document follows the per-doctrine tier assignments in the doctrines object, which is the authoritative, occurrence-level source. No doctrine or tier has been altered from the registry.)

2. Chapter-by-Chapter Coverage

Chapter 1 — Thanksgiving, Persecution, and Righteous Judgment (1:1-12)

1:1-2 (Salutation)

  • Doctrines active: Church as God’s People (#20), Grace and Peace Greeting (#19)
  • Coverage note: Fixed Pauline greeting formula shared with Romans 1:7; 은혜/평강 pairing established here must be recorded for consistency across all future Pauline-corpus translations in this pipeline.

1:3-4 (Thanksgiving for growth; introduction of persecution)

  • Doctrines active: Growth in Faith and Love (#21), Thanksgiving for God’s Work (#23), Perseverance under Persecution (#9, introduced)
  • Coverage note: 인내 first appears here; must be distinguished immediately from 한 and Confucian stoic-endurance framing before the doctrine is developed further in vv.5-10.

1:5-10 (Righteous judgment; vengeance; destruction; glorification)

  • Doctrines active (highest doctrinal density in the letter): God’s Righteous Judgment (#6, Critical), Divine Vengeance and Retribution (#10, High), Eternal Destruction and Separation from God (#11, High), Divine Calling and Being Counted Worthy (#12, High), Kingdom of God as Goal of Suffering (#22, Low)
  • Coverage note: This section requires the highest concentration of human-theologian review in ch.1. The 의/심판 compound (하나님의 의로운 심판, v.5-6) must be flagged as a single reviewable unit rather than reviewed as two separate lower-risk terms in isolation.

1:11-12 (Prayer for worthiness; glory of Christ)

  • Doctrines active: Divine Calling and Being Counted Worthy (#12, continued), Kingdom of God (#22, echoed)
  • Coverage note: 영광 (baseline Medium term) recurs here in a Christ-glorification sense; no new risk introduced, reviewed and confirmed consistent with baseline note.

Chapter 2 — The Day of the Lord and the Man of Lawlessness (2:1-17)

2:1-2 (Correcting the false “already come” claim)

  • Doctrines active: The Day of the Lord (#1, Critical), Assurance Amid Eschatological Confusion (#15, High)
  • Coverage note: The single most load-bearing verse pair in the letter for doctrinal precision — the tense/aspect of the false claim (“has come,” not “is near”) must be preserved or the entire chapter’s logical structure fails in translation.

2:3-4 (The apostasy; the man of lawlessness; self-enthronement in the temple)

  • Doctrines active: The Man of Lawlessness (#2, Critical), The Apostasy (#3, Critical)
  • Coverage note: Two precursor signs stated as jointly necessary before the Day of the Lord; both must retain their full doctrinal weight (not softened to generic “wrongdoing” or “difficulty”) for the two-sign logic to survive translation.

2:5-8 (The restrainer; the lawless one revealed; the Lord’s appearing)

  • Doctrines active: The Restrainer (#5, Critical), The Man of Lawlessness (#2, continued — “lawless one,” “revealed”)
  • Coverage note: Requires the deliberate neuter→masculine referent-ambiguity (v.6 “what restrains” → v.7 “he who restrains”) to be mirrored, not resolved, in Korean. 강림/나타나심 pairing (v.8) must be checked for consistency with 2:1’s 강림.

2:9-10 (Satan’s counterfeit coming, power, signs, wonders, deception)

  • Doctrines active: Satan’s Counterfeit Power and Signs (#4, Critical)
  • Coverage note: The single clearest point of contact with the baseline’s Critical 능력 doctrine; requires explicit “counterfeit/false” framing at every occurrence to prevent conflation with genuine divine 능력 elsewhere in the curriculum.

2:10-12 (Judicial hardening; belief in the lie; condemnation)

  • Doctrines active: God’s Judicial Sending of Delusion (#7, Critical), God’s Righteous Judgment (#6, continued)
  • Coverage note: Sequential logic (rejected truth → given over to delusion → condemned) must be preserved intact; this is the letter’s most severe judgment statement and requires theologian review of the full three-verse unit as one segment, not verse-by-verse in isolation.

2:13-14 (Election, sanctification, belief in truth, calling, glory)

  • Doctrines active: Election and Sanctification unto Salvation (#13, High), Divine Calling (#12, continued), Church as God’s People (#20), Thanksgiving (#23)
  • Coverage note: Direct positive counterpart to 2:10-12’s judgment; the contrast (chosen/sanctified/saved vs. condemned) must be visible in translation as a deliberate rhetorical pairing.

2:15 (Stand firm; hold the traditions)

  • Doctrines active: Standing Firm in the Traditions (#8, Critical — first occurrence)
  • Coverage note: The letter’s highest Korean-context collision risk term makes its first appearance here, directly following the judgment/election unit; sense-distinguishing note (apostolic teaching vs. Confucian ancestral custom) is mandatory at this occurrence.

2:16-17 (Benediction: comfort, good hope through grace, establishing)

  • Doctrines active: Comfort and Hope through Grace (#17, Medium)
  • Coverage note: Closes the chapter’s doctrinal argument with grace-grounded assurance; reinforces (does not introduce new material beyond) the Critical grace doctrine already governed by the baseline.

Chapter 3 — Prayer, the Lord’s Faithfulness, and Standing Firm in Practice (3:1-18)

3:1-2 (Request for prayer; the word may speed ahead; deliverance from wicked men)

  • Doctrines active: Growth in Faith and Love (#21, echoed via 믿음)
  • Coverage note: No new doctrine introduced; reviewed and confirmed as reusing established baseline 믿음 term without modification.

3:3 (The Lord is faithful; will establish and guard; the evil one)

  • Doctrines active: The Faithfulness of God Amid Persecution (#16, Medium); indirect echo of Satan doctrine (#4) via “the evil one” as same personal referent as 2:9’s Satan
  • Coverage note: Honorific verb-form requirement applies to 신실하신 주님; 악한 자 must be confirmed as the same referent as 사탄 (2:9), not a separate generic-misfortune concept.

3:4-5 (Confidence in the Lord concerning obedience; direct hearts to God’s love and Christ’s steadfastness)

  • Doctrines active: Perseverance under Persecution (#9, echoed); no new risk term
  • Coverage note: Reviewed; no new doctrine or term introduced beyond established ch.1 vocabulary.

3:6-15 (Command regarding idleness; apostolic example of labor; church discipline; warning as a brother)

  • Doctrines active: Standing Firm in the Traditions (#8, Critical — second and further occurrences, vv.6 and 14), Church Discipline and Disorderly Conduct (#18, Medium)
  • Coverage note: This is the doctrine’s practical outworking — “the tradition you received from us” (v.6) is the same apostolic-teaching sense established at 2:15, and must be translated with the identical 전통 term and identical sense-distinguishing caution, not a synonym, to preserve the letter’s internal cross-reference between doctrinal correction (ch.2) and behavioral correction (ch.3).

3:16 (Benediction: peace at all times in every way)

  • Doctrines active: Peace (relational/benediction sense, reusing baseline 화평 exactly per glossary; not separately tabulated as its own doctrine but governed under Church as God’s People / Comfort and Hope context)
  • Coverage note: Confirmed distinct from 1:2’s greeting-formula 평강; no risk-tier change from baseline.

3:17-18 (Paul’s own handwritten sign; grace benediction)

  • Doctrines active: Epistolary Authentication and Apostolic Authority (#24, Low), Grace (closing benediction, governed by baseline Critical 은혜 doctrine)
  • Coverage note: 표 (authentication mark) must remain visibly distinct from 2:9’s 표적 (signs/wonders) despite the shared root; final 은혜 occurrence closes the letter under the same Critical-tier caution applied at 1:2.

3. Summary of Review Routing Load

Review RoutingDoctrine CountDoctrines
Human theologian (mandatory, every occurrence)15#1–#15
Native speaker review6#16–#21
Automated review3#22–#24

Highest-density review sections (multiple Critical/High doctrines converging in a single short span, requiring coordinated theologian review rather than isolated verse-by-verse review):

  • 1:5-10 (righteous judgment, vengeance, destruction, calling — 4 doctrines in 6 verses)
  • 2:1-12 (Day of the Lord through judicial hardening — 6 of the letter’s 8 Critical doctrines, confirming this span as the theological anchor of the entire book)
  • 2:13-17 (election/sanctification through grace-benediction, immediately followed by the letter’s highest-risk single term, 전통, at 2:15)

This document is the analytical companion to assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json and must be read alongside analysis/08_core_glossary.md for term-level rendering decisions. No doctrine, risk tier, or review routing recorded here departs from the registry; this file exists solely to demonstrate full-book (ch.1–3) coverage and section-level traceability for Phase 2 routing.

Critical Risk Doctrines

The Day of the Lord

Korean name: 주의 날
Key terms: day of the Lord, coming, parousia, gathering together
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: 주의 날 must never be softened into a generic ‘someday’ or read through Korean folk-astrological day-selection practice (택일, taegil), still used for weddings, moves, and funerals, which treats days as auspicious/inauspicious by divination. The passage’s specific corrective point — that the day has NOT already arrived (ἐνέστηκεν), contrary to a false claim — must also survive translation intact, or Paul’s entire argument in vv. 3-4 collapses.

The Man of Lawlessness

Korean name: 불법의 사람
Key terms: man of lawlessness, lawless one, son of destruction, lawlessness, self-exaltation, temple of God
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: 불법 must never be confused with 율법 (the Mosaic Law) nor trivialized via secular-legal usage (e.g. ‘불법 주차’). The figure’s self-deifying enthronement in God’s temple (2:4) must retain 하나님 as the true God’s exact name so the horror of the false claim is preserved. Korean religious history includes documented new-religious-movement leaders claiming messianic/divine self-status, a live cultural resonance that must be acknowledged in teaching without collapsing the specific end-times figure into a template for identifying any particular contemporary leader.

The Apostasy (The Falling Away)

Korean name: 배교
Key terms: the rebellion, the apostasy, falling away
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: 배교 denotes a decisive, corporate, climactic end-times falling-away preceding the Day of the Lord, not ordinary individual doubt or nominal religious drift. A weaker rendering such as 이탈 (‘departure’) would lose the religious-betrayal force essential to this being one of the two required precursor signs (with the man of lawlessness) before the Day of the Lord.

Satan’s Counterfeit Power and Signs

Korean name: 사탄의 거짓 능력과 표적
Key terms: power of Satan, signs and wonders, working of Satan, deception
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: This passage directly stages the collision the Romans baseline already flags Critical — 능력 (God’s true saving power) versus a satanic counterfeit of the same word. Given Korean charismatic Christianity’s heavy 능력-language emphasis and Korean church leaders’ own documented self-caution about power-ministry sliding toward a shamanistic power-seeking pattern (mirroring a mudang’s claimed 영력), teaching must make explicit that 2:9’s 능력, 표적, and 기사 are false and satanically sourced, not evidence of divine approval — and must be distinguished from Korean folk-divinatory ‘signs and omens’ (징조, 점괘).

The Restrainer (Deliberate Ambiguity)

Korean name: 막는 자/막는 것의 정체
Key terms: what restrains, he who restrains, taken out of the way
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL translation-mechanics risk distinct from a syncretism risk: the referent (Roman Empire, the gospel, the church, an angelic power, or the Holy Spirit’s restraining presence) is intentionally ambiguous in the Greek and must remain equally unresolved in Korean. Selecting a Korean term that presupposes one interpretation (e.g., one that pre-identifies the restrainer as 성령) would foreclose a genuinely open exegetical question inside the translated text itself rather than in commentary, where such resolution belongs.

God’s Righteous Judgment

Korean name: 하나님의 의로운 심판
Key terms: righteous judgment, judged, vengeance, eternal destruction, unrighteousness
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: fuses two of the letter’s highest-risk terms — 의 (already flagged in the baseline for collision with the Korean loyalty-ethic concept 의리) and 심판 (which must be kept distinct from Buddhist/folk karmic retribution, 인과응보, an impersonal cosmic mechanism, and from shamanistic curse/misfortune framing, 액운). This must be taught as a personal God’s forensically righteous verdict — vindicating the persecuted (1:7) and condemning the unrepentant (1:8-9, 2:12) — not an impersonal cosmic balancing of merit and demerit.

God’s Judicial Sending of Delusion

Korean name: 하나님의 심판적 미혹
Key terms: God sends a strong delusion, believe the lie, judged
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: a severe judicial-hardening statement — God actively gives over those who first rejected the truth to the deception they preferred. 미혹 (delusion) touches Korean folk-shamanistic vocabulary of spirit-induced affliction; commentary must make explicit this is God’s moral, sequential, judicial response to prior unbelief (v.10 precedes v.11), not an arbitrary or capricious act, to avoid both a fatalistic misreading and a syncretistic reading as an impersonal curse.

Standing Firm in the Traditions

Korean name: 전통(사도의 가르침)을 굳게 지킴
Key terms: traditions, hold fast, stand firm, taught by us
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: the single highest Korean-context risk doctrine in the letter. 전통 (jeontong) carries strong ordinary-Korean associations with inherited cultural/family custom, prominently Confucian ancestral-rite practice (제사, jesa) and ritual propriety (예, ye) — the same complex the baseline flags Critical under ‘Father’ (jesa-refusal persecution history) and High under ‘adoption.’ Readers could badly mishear ‘stand firm in the traditions’ as endorsing continued Confucian ancestral custom, the opposite of Paul’s meaning: authoritative apostolic gospel teaching received directly from him, held against competing claims including the false Day-of-the-Lord teaching corrected earlier in this same chapter. Every occurrence requires explicit teaching distinguishing the two senses of ‘tradition.‘

High Risk Doctrines

Perseverance under Persecution

Korean name: 박해 속에서의 인내
Key terms: endurance, affliction, persecution, faith and love growing
Review routing: Human theologian

인내 (endurance) must be distinguished from 한 (han), a culturally significant Korean concept of accumulated sorrowful endurance/resentment borne in silence without hope of resolution, and from a Confucian ideal of stoic endurance valued for social honor. Biblical endurance here is hope-fueled, grounded in confident expectation of Christ’s coming and God’s righteous judgment (1:5-10) — not silent hopeless han nor honor-oriented stoicism. 박해 (persecution) is historically resonant in Korean church history itself, a teaching asset if anchored to the text’s specific hope-in-judgment logic rather than left as mere historical description.

Divine Vengeance and Retribution

Korean name: 하나님의 보응
Key terms: vengeance, repay, affliction to your afflicters
Review routing: Human theologian

God’s own righteous retribution against persecutors (1:6, 1:8) must be taught as a personal act of divine justice, not impersonal cosmic payback risking conflation with 인과응보 (karmic retribution), nor as license for human vengeance-taking, which the passage implicitly reserves to God alone.

Eternal Destruction and Separation from God

Korean name: 주의 얼굴을 떠나 받는 영원한 멸망
Key terms: eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord
Review routing: Human theologian

Must be taught as final, personal, relational separation from a personal God’s presence — a relational destiny, not an impersonal dissolution of self into an undifferentiated state, as could be misheard through a Buddhist non-self/annihilation lens. Reuses the 멸망 root from ‘son of destruction’ (2:3) and ‘those who are perishing’ (2:10) for thematic consistency.

Divine Calling and Being Counted Worthy

Korean name: 부르심과 합당히 여기심
Key terms: called, calling, counted worthy, kingdom of God
Review routing: Human theologian

God’s personal, gracious summons through the gospel (2:14) must not be read as a fate calculable from a birth chart (사주팔자, saju-paljja), per baseline reasoning; ‘counted worthy’ (1:5, 1:11) must not be misread as human merit earning the calling, but as evidence God is at work fulfilling his own gracious purpose in believers.

Election and Sanctification unto Salvation

Korean name: 구원을 위한 선택과 성화
Key terms: God chose you, sanctification of the Spirit, belief in the truth, salvation
Review routing: Human theologian

God’s sovereign, gracious choice (선택) must not be read as a competitive, merit-based selection (echoing Korea’s exam/hiring culture) nor as fate (팔자/운); the Spirit’s sanctifying work (성화) must not be reduced to ascetic self-cultivation (수행, 도 닦기). Both terms must be anchored to God’s own prior, unmerited initiative culminating in salvation (구원), directly opposed to the destruction (2:10-12) awaiting those who reject the truth.

Gospel Obedience and Judgment for Disobedience

Korean name: 복음에 대한 순종과 불순종에 대한 심판
Key terms: obey the gospel, do not know God, vengeance
Review routing: Human theologian

Refusal to obey the gospel — not merely imperfect obedience — is what draws God’s righteous judgment. Per baseline reasoning on ‘obedience of faith,’ this must not be reduced to hierarchical social-status compliance drawn from Confucian obedience ethics; it is a Spirit-produced response to grace, and its refusal is a decisive rejection of a personal God, not a breach of social etiquette.

Assurance and Stability Amid Eschatological Confusion

Korean name: 종말론적 혼란 속에서의 확신
Key terms: not quickly shaken, not alarmed, as though the day of the Lord had come
Review routing: Human theologian

The false claim being corrected is that the Day of the Lord has already come (a perfect-tense claim of present arrival), not merely that it is near; this precise force must survive translation or Paul’s subsequent argument (vv. 3-4, the apostasy and man of lawlessness must first appear) becomes incoherent. Must also avoid feeding a fatalistic reading in which believers passively accept whatever teaching arrives about the end, rather than testing it against apostolic tradition (2:15).

Medium Risk Doctrines

The Faithfulness of God Amid Persecution

Korean name: 박해 중에도 신실하신 하나님
Key terms: the Lord is faithful, will establish and guard you
Review routing: Native speaker review

신실하신 주님 describes God’s/Christ’s own unchanging trustworthy character as the ground of assurance, not an ongoing fortune-seeking exchange (기복신앙) that could always be judged insufficiently maintained by the believer; the honorific verb form must be applied correctly per baseline’s honorific-grammar requirement.

Comfort and Hope through Grace

Korean name: 은혜로 말미암은 위로와 소망
Key terms: eternal comfort, good hope through grace, establish in every good work
Review routing: Native speaker review

위로 (comfort) must not be conflated with 권면 (exhort), despite the shared παρακαλέω Greek root; ‘good hope through grace’ must reinforce, not dilute, the baseline’s Critical grace doctrine — hope grounded in God’s unearned favor, not a reciprocal fortune-seeking exchange (기복신앙).

Church Discipline and Disorderly Conduct

Korean name: 교회의 권징과 무질서한 행실
Key terms: walking in idleness, keep away from, if anyone will not work, warn as a brother
Review routing: Native speaker review

Refusal to work, fueled by eschatological over-excitement, is treated as a deviation from received apostolic tradition (v.6), directly reinforcing ‘Standing Firm in the Traditions’; discipline is corrective and relational (‘warn as a brother,’ v.15), not a shaming/ostracizing act tied to Korean social 체면 (face) dynamics, which should be distinguished in teaching.

Grace and Peace (Epistolary Greeting)

Korean name: 은혜와 평강의 인사
Key terms: grace to you and peace, God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
Review routing: Native speaker review

은혜 requires the baseline’s full Critical-tier caution against a 기복신앙 (fortune-seeking) misreading even in this fixed greeting formula; 평강 (distinct from 화평, reserved for the Romans 5:1 relational peace-through-justification sense) is the established KRV rendering for this shared Pauline salutation and must be recorded consistently for future Pauline-corpus translation in this pipeline.

Church as God’s People

Korean name: 하나님의 백성으로서의 교회
Key terms: church, brothers, beloved by the Lord
Review routing: Native speaker review

Reuses baseline reasoning: the new covenant community, not a shamanistic village shrine (당집) or Buddhist temple institution (절).

Growth in Faith and Love

Korean name: 믿음과 사랑의 성장
Key terms: faith is growing abundantly, love of every one of you for one another
Review routing: Native speaker review

사랑 (agapē) must be anchored to its self-giving, Spirit-produced NT sense rather than ordinary Korean usage’s romantic/familial/general-affection range; 믿음 continues the baseline’s established faith terminology, distinguished from superstitious belief (미신) or folk-astrological confidence.

Low Risk Doctrines

Kingdom of God as the Goal of Present Suffering

Korean name: 고난을 통한 하나님 나라를 향함
Key terms: kingdom of God, counted worthy, for which you are also suffering
Review routing: Automated review

Reuses baseline reasoning: Korea has no live competing state ideology claiming a rival ‘divine kingdom’ framing, keeping this comparatively low-risk relative to some other doctrines in this letter.

Thanksgiving for God’s Work in Believers

Korean name: 성도 안에서 이루신 하나님의 일에 대한 감사
Key terms: we ought always to give thanks, as is right
Review routing: Automated review

Standard vocabulary; minor risk of generic secular gratitude without reference to God specifically, consistent with the baseline’s existing thanksgiving entry.

Epistolary Authentication and Apostolic Authority

Korean name: 사도의 친필 표와 권위
Key terms: the sign in every letter, written with my own hand, not by letter as though from us
Review routing: Automated review

Paul’s handwritten authentication mark (표) is an everyday, non-eschatological sense distinct from 2:9’s ‘signs and wonders’ (표적); low doctrinal risk, but should not be conflated with the eschatological sign-vocabulary elsewhere in the letter.
