Cross-Reference Analysis
09 Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis — 1 Peter (English–German)
Scope and Method
This document catalogs every Old Testament quotation and allusion, every messianic reference, every typological pattern, and every parallel to other curricula already present in the German Language Package (Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) across the entire text of 1 Peter, chapter by chapter, in canonical order. Citations are given in normalizable form (Book Chapter:Verse, e.g. “1 Peter 2:6”, “Isaiah 28:16”) so Phase 2 tooling can match them programmatically. German book-name mapping for citation display follows the convention already fixed in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md (Römer, Galater, Epheser, Philipper, Kolosser, Matthäus, Markus, Lukas, Johannes; 1 Peter = 1. Petrus, cited as “1. Petrus 2,6” in German-facing material).
Where a shared OT text or a shared NT theme already has an established German rendering fixed elsewhere in this pipeline, this document flags the exact rendering-consistency rule required so that German learners moving between the Romans/Galatians/Ephesians/Philippians/Colossians/Matthew/Mark/Luke/John curriculum and this 1 Peter curriculum encounter recognizably identical vocabulary for the same underlying text.
PART A — Old Testament Quotations (Direct Citations), by Chapter
| # | 1 Peter passage | OT citation | Quotation type | Theme / doctrine | Related character(s) | Translation sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | 1 Peter 1:16 | Leviticus 11:44; 11:45; 19:2; 20:7 | Direct quotation, formulaic (“Seid heilig, denn ich bin heilig”) | Holiness in Conduct | Moses (lawgiver), Israel (addressee) | High. Reuses baseline heilig (Critical, holy) at full doctrinal weight; this is 1 Peter’s own foundational proof-text for the doctrine and must be recognized as a direct OT holiness-code citation, not a paraphrase. |
| A2 | 1 Peter 1:24-25 | Isaiah 40:6-8 (LXX) | Direct quotation (“alles Fleisch ist wie Gras…”) | Living Hope of the Resurrection (contrast: God’s enduring word vs. human transience) | — | Medium. Uses baseline Fleisch in its creaturely-mortal sense (see semantic analysis note on the letter’s four Fleisch senses); must not be confused with the ethical sense at 1 Peter 2:11. |
| A3 | 1 Peter 2:3 | Psalm 34:8 (LXX 33:9) | Direct quotation (“geschmeckt, dass der Herr gütig ist”) | Living Hope of the Resurrection / Holiness in Conduct | David (psalmist) | Medium. Reuses baseline Herr exactly (Critical, lord). |
| A4 | 1 Peter 2:6 | Isaiah 28:16 (LXX) | Direct quotation (“Siehe, ich lege in Zion einen Eckstein, erwählt und wertvoll…”) | Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood | — | Critical. Also quoted (in combination with Isaiah 8:14) at Romans 9:33 in this pipeline’s own baseline curriculum. Rendering-consistency rule: the German wording of Isaiah 28:16 in 1 Peter 2:6 and Romans 9:33 must be verbatim-identical, per the pipeline’s shared-citation discipline already applied to the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39/Romans 13:9/Galatians 5:14). |
| A5 | 1 Peter 2:7 | Psalm 118:22 | Direct quotation (“Der Stein, den die Bauleute verworfen haben, der ist zum Eckstein geworden”) | Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood; Messianic Promise | David (traditional psalmist) | Critical. This exact verse is also quoted by Jesus (Matthew 21:42; Mark 12:10; Luke 20:17) and by Peter himself before the Sanhedrin (Acts 4:11, outside this pipeline). Three of the four quoting contexts (Matthew, Mark, Luke) are already part of this German Language Package. Rendering-consistency rule: Psalm 118:22 must render identically in 1 Peter 2:7 and in Matthew 21:42 / Mark 12:10 / Luke 20:17. This is one of the most structurally important shared-quotation consistency requirements in the whole pipeline, since it is the single OT text quoted the most times across these curricula’s combined Gospel and Epistle material. |
| A6 | 1 Peter 2:8 | Isaiah 8:14 | Direct quotation (“ein Stein des Anstoßes und ein Fels des Ärgernisses”) | Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood | — | Critical. Also underlies Romans 9:32-33. Rendering-consistency rule: identical German wording required in both curricula. Isaiah 8:14 is quoted a second time, in a different application, at 1 Peter 3:14 (see A9) — the two occurrences must be distinguished in teaching material as two separate citations from the same OT chapter, not treated as one repeated idea. |
| A7 | 1 Peter 2:9 | Exodus 19:5-6; Isaiah 43:20-21 (composite) | Direct/composite quotation (“königliches Priestertum,” “heiliges Volk,” “Volk zum Eigentum”) | Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood (core doctrine) | Moses (Exodus lawgiver) | Critical. The single highest-stakes citation in this curriculum: the direct OT source-text for Luther’s doctrine of the allgemeines Priestertum. Mandatory theologian review; German rendering must reuse baseline heilig exactly and must never render γένος as “Rasse” (see Part D below). |
| A8 | 1 Peter 2:10 | Hosea 1:6, 9; 2:23 | Direct quotation (“Einst nicht ein Volk, jetzt aber Gottes Volk; einst nicht mit Erbarmen bedacht, jetzt aber mit Erbarmen bedacht”) | Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood; Unity of Jews and Gentiles (adjacent) | Hosea (prophet), Gomer (typological background) | Critical. This exact Hosea passage is also quoted at Romans 9:25-26 in this pipeline’s baseline curriculum, applying the same “once not a people, now God’s people” language to God’s mercy toward Gentiles. Rendering-consistency rule: Hosea 1:6/1:9/2:23 must render identically in 1 Peter 2:10 and Romans 9:25-26. Flag for mandatory theologian review given the shared Jew/Gentile-inclusion sensitivity already documented in the baseline for both passages. |
| A9 | 1 Peter 2:22 | Isaiah 53:9 | Direct quotation (“Er hat keine Sünde begangen, und in seinem Mund wurde kein Betrug gefunden”) | Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering | The Suffering Servant (messianic) | Critical. Core Isaiah 53 Suffering-Servant citation; reuses baseline Sünde exactly. |
| A10 | 1 Peter 2:24 | Isaiah 53:4, 12 (allusive echo, not verbatim LXX) | Allusive quotation/echo (“er selbst hat unsere Sünden getragen in seinem Leibe am Holz”) | Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering | The Suffering Servant | Critical. See Part D below for the Deuteronomy 21:23 / Galatians 3:13 cross-reference this verse’s “tree/Holz” language shares. |
| A11 | 1 Peter 2:24 | Isaiah 53:5 | Direct quotation (“durch seine Wunden seid ihr heil geworden / geheilt”) | Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering | The Suffering Servant | Critical. Verb-form “heilen,” distinct contamination-risk profile from the noun “Heil” (see semantic analysis). |
| A12 | 1 Peter 2:25 | Isaiah 53:6 | Direct quotation/echo (“ihr gingt in die Irre wie Schafe…”) | Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering; Elders and Humility (generative link) | The Suffering Servant | Critical. Introduces the Shepherd/Overseer Christological title that directly generates the 1 Peter 5:1-4 elder-shepherding doctrine (see Part D, D6). |
| A13 | 1 Peter 3:10-12 | Psalm 34:12-16 (LXX 33:13-17) | Direct, extended quotation | Holiness in Conduct; Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake | David (psalmist) | Medium. Substantial verbatim block; keep the whole unit together in teaching material rather than excerpting. |
| A14 | 1 Peter 3:14-15 | Isaiah 8:12-13 | Direct quotation with a deliberate Christological substitution: the LXX’s “the LORD of hosts, him you shall sanctify” (YHWH) becomes “sanctify Christ the Lord” | Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake; Deity of Christ / Lordship of Christ (baseline doctrines, directly implicated) | — | Critical. This is one of the most theologically significant OT quotations in the letter for Christology: Peter applies an OT divine-name text directly to Christ, exactly the kind of “divine-name transfer to Jesus” pattern already flagged as Critical throughout the John package (e.g. before_abraham_i_am, i_and_the_father_are_one). Must combine baseline heilig and Herr at full weight (per semantic analysis’s “Christus als Herrn heiligen” entry). Mandatory theologian review, explicitly noting the substitution as intentional Christological affirmation. |
| A15 | 1 Peter 4:8 | Proverbs 10:12 (LXX) | Direct quotation (“die Liebe deckt der Sünden Menge”) | Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering (contrast — see Part D, D7) | Solomon (traditional author) | Critical. Must never be read as a rival atonement to 2:24/3:18; mandatory cross-reference framing. |
| A16 | 1 Peter 4:18 | Proverbs 11:31 (LXX) | Direct quotation (“der Gerechte wird kaum gerettet”) | Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake | Solomon (traditional author) | Medium. Reuses baseline Gerechtigkeit and Rettung exactly. |
| A17 | 1 Peter 5:5 | Proverbs 3:34 (LXX) | Direct quotation (“Gott gibt den Demütigen Gnade”) | Elders and Humility | Solomon (traditional author) | High. Reuses baseline Gnade in its full technical soteriological sense — a useful teaching anchor immediately following the letter’s one non-technical use of χάρις at 2:19-20. |
PART B — Old Testament Allusions and Typological Echoes (Non-Quotation), by Chapter
| # | 1 Peter passage | OT background | Theme / doctrine | Related character(s) | Typological pattern | Translation sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| B1 | 1 Peter 1:1 | Deuteronomy 28:64; Jeremiah 29:1-14; Daniel 1-2 (exilic dispersion narrative) | Living Hope of the Resurrection (social-theological framing) | Israel (collective), Daniel | Diaspora-Israel identity applied metaphorically to a largely Gentile church | High. See Part D, D1 for the Israel/Diaspora sensitivity already documented in the baseline. |
| B2 | 1 Peter 1:2 | Exodus 24:8 (Mosaic covenant-ratification blood) | Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering (covenant background) | Moses | Old covenant blood-ratification typologically fulfilled in Christ’s blood | High. New term for the glossary (“Besprengung”); requires explicit Exodus 24:8 explanation for a low-OT-literacy audience. Conceptually parallel (not verbally identical) to Matthew 26:28’s “Blut des Bundes” (Words of Institution, already Critical in the baseline) — see Part D, D8. |
| B3 | 1 Peter 1:10-12 | The OT prophetic corpus generally (Isaiah, Micah, Jeremiah, etc.) | Fulfillment of Prophecy; Messianic Promise (baseline doctrines) | “the prophets” (collective) | Prophets searched out, in advance, the grace/suffering/glory later revealed in Christ | Medium. Direct continuation of the baseline’s fulfillment_of_prophecy and messianic_promise doctrines (Romans 1:2-4). |
| B4 | 1 Peter 1:17 | Deuteronomy 10:17; 2 Chronicles 19:7 (God’s impartial judgment) | Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake | — | Impartial divine judgeship, echoed again at 1 Peter 4:5 | Medium. Cross-reference baseline’s universal_scope_of_gospel/no-partiality material (Romans 2:11). |
| B5 | 1 Peter 1:18 | Exodus 6:6; 15:13 (redemption/ransom from Egypt); general “futility of the fathers” motif (cf. Jeremiah 2:5) | Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering | Moses, Israel (Exodus generation) | Exodus-redemption typologically fulfilled by Christ’s ransom | Critical. Reuses baseline erlöst/ransom theology exactly (son_of_man_ransom, Matthew 20:28). |
| B6 | 1 Peter 1:19 | Exodus 12:5 (Passover lamb without blemish); Leviticus 22:19-21 (sacrificial standards); Isaiah 53:7 (lamb led to slaughter) | Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering | — | Passover-lamb typology directly fulfilled in Christ | Critical. Direct continuation of the baseline’s Gottes Lamm doctrine (John 1:29, lamb_of_god) — see Part D, D2. |
| B7 | 1 Peter 1:20 | Proverbs 8:22-31 (wisdom before creation, typological background); more directly parallels the NT’s own pre-existence statements | Deity of Christ / Sonship of Christ (baseline doctrines) | — | Christ’s pre-temporal foreordination for redemption | High. Direct parallel to Ephesians 1:4 (“chosen…before the foundation of the world”) — see Part D, D3. |
| B8 | 1 Peter 2:4 | Psalm 118:22; Isaiah 53:3 (rejected by men) | Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood | — | Christ as the rejected-yet-divinely-chosen stone | Critical. Introduces the stone-catena unit continued through A4-A6. |
| B9 | 1 Peter 2:5 | 1 Kings 6-8 (Solomon’s Temple); Exodus 19:6 (priesthood) | Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood | Solomon | The church as the true, living temple replacing the physical Jerusalem temple’s function | High. See semantic analysis note on geistliches Haus. |
| B10 | 1 Peter 2:12 | Isaiah 10:3 (“day of visitation/punishment”) | — | — | Eschatological day of divine reckoning | High. False-friend risk with colloquial German “Heimsuchung” (see semantic analysis). |
| B11 | 1 Peter 2:11 | Genesis 23:4 (Abraham as “sojourner and foreigner”); Psalm 39:12 | — | Abraham | Patriarchal sojourner-identity applied to the church | Medium-High. Continues the diaspora-sensitivity noted at B1. |
| B12 | 1 Peter 3:1-6 | Genesis 18:12 (Sarah calling Abraham “lord/master”); Genesis 12-23 (Sarah’s narrative generally) | Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance | Sarah, Abraham | Sarah held up as an OT example of the ordinary, non-divine use of “lord” and of a wife’s respectful bearing | Critical disambiguation opportunity. See Part D, D9 and the semantic analysis’s flag on the mundane sense of κύριος/Herr. |
| B13 | 1 Peter 3:18-22 | Genesis 6:1-8:19 (Noah, the flood, the ark) | Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits | Noah and his household (eight persons) | The flood as a type of baptismal deliverance-through-judgment | Critical. See Part C (Typology) and Part D, D5 for the parallel to Matthew 24:37-39 (already in this pipeline’s Matthew package). |
| B14 | 1 Peter 3:19 | Genesis 6:1-4 (background for “sons of God”/fallen spiritual beings, as later developed extra-biblically) | Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits | — | Disobedient spirits from Noah’s generation as the object of Christ’s proclamation | Critical. Exegetically disputed; flag per the pipeline’s non-adjudication convention (cf. the Matthew Words of Institution and John 7:53-8:11 textual-note precedent). Teaching material may note, as historical-background only, that later Jewish apocalyptic literature (1 Enoch, non-canonical) developed this Genesis 6 material further, without granting it scriptural authority. |
| B15 | 1 Peter 3:22 | Psalm 110:1 (“sit at my right hand”); Daniel 7:14 (universal authority given to the Son of Man) | Deity of Christ; Lordship of Christ | — | Christ’s exaltation and cosmic authority | High. See Part D, D4. |
| B16 | 1 Peter 4:5 | Psalm 96:13; 98:9 (God/the coming one judges the earth) | — | — | Eschatological judgment of living and dead | Critical. Must match the Apostles’/Nicene Creed’s fixed German wording (see semantic analysis). |
| B17 | 1 Peter 4:14 | Isaiah 11:2 (“the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,” messianic) | Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake | — | The messianic Spirit resting on the Servant, now resting on suffering believers | Critical. Combines baseline Herrlichkeit and Heiliger Geist; cross-reference the Spirit’s descent at Jesus’ baptism (Matthew 3:16-17/Mark 1:10-11, already in the pipeline). |
| B18 | 1 Peter 5:2 | Ezekiel 34:1-10; Jeremiah 23:1-4; Psalm 23 (shepherd/flock imagery, shepherds who fail Israel) | Elders and Humility | Ezekiel, David (as shepherd-king type) | OT failed-shepherd critique reversed into a positive charge for Christian elders | Critical. See Part D, D6 for the John 21:15-17 direct parallel. |
| B19 | 1 Peter 5:7 | Psalm 55:22 (“cast your burden on the LORD”) | — | David | — | Low-Medium. |
| B20 | 1 Peter 5:8 | Psalm 22:13 (roaring imagery); Job 1:7 (the adversary “going about”) | — | Job | Satan’s predatory activity | Medium. |
PART C — Messianic References and Typology: Consolidated Summary
| Typological/messianic pattern | OT source | 1 Peter occurrence(s) | Fulfillment claim | Cross-pipeline connection | Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Passover lamb without blemish | Exodus 12:5; Leviticus 22:19-21 | 1 Peter 1:19 | Christ as the sacrificial Lamb whose precious blood ransoms | John 1:29, 1:36 (lamb_of_god, Critical baseline doctrine) | Critical — must be taught as the same Lamb theology, not a separate image |
| Suffering Servant | Isaiah 52:13-53:12 (multiple verses quoted/echoed: 53:4, 5, 6, 9, 12) | 1 Peter 2:22-25; 3:18 | Christ’s sinless, substitutionary, vicarious suffering “for us/for sins” | Underlies the whole christs_substitutionary_suffering doctrine; conceptually parallel to Matthew 20:28’s “Lösegeld für viele” (son_of_man_ransom) | Critical |
| Rejected-yet-chosen stone / cornerstone | Psalm 118:22; Isaiah 28:16; Isaiah 8:14 | 1 Peter 2:4-8 | Christ, rejected by human authorities, is God’s own chosen foundation | Romans 9:32-33 (Isaiah 28:16 + 8:14 combined); Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:10, Luke 20:17 (Psalm 118:22) | Critical — see Part D, D2 for the full verbatim-match requirement |
| Divine-name text applied to Christ | Isaiah 8:12-13 (LXX: “the LORD of hosts”) | 1 Peter 3:14-15 (“sanctify Christ the Lord”) | Direct ascription of an OT YHWH-text to Jesus | Same pattern as John 8:58 (before_abraham_i_am), John 10:30 (i_and_the_father_are_one) | Critical |
| Exaltation to God’s right hand, cosmic authority | Psalm 110:1; Daniel 7:14 | 1 Peter 3:22 | Christ’s resurrection-exaltation with angels/authorities/powers subjected | Ephesians 1:20-22 (christs_supremacy_and_headship); Philippians 2:9-11 (highly_exalted, universal_lordship_confession); Colossians 1:16 (creator_and_sustainer_of_all) | Critical |
| Noah’s flood as deliverance-through-judgment | Genesis 6:1-8:19 | 1 Peter 3:20-21 | The flood prefigures baptism’s saving pattern | Matthew 24:37-39 (Olivet Discourse; already in this pipeline’s Matthew package) | Critical |
| Shepherd of Israel / Good Shepherd | Ezekiel 34; Psalm 23 | 1 Peter 2:25 (Christ as “Shepherd and Overseer”); 5:4 (“chief Shepherd”) | Christ fulfills and exceeds the OT shepherd ideal; human elders serve under him | John 10:11, 14 (seven_i_am_statements, “I am the good shepherd,” Critical baseline doctrine); John 21:15-17 (Peter’s own commissioning) | Critical |
| Foreknown/foreordained before creation | (typological background: Proverbs 8:22-31) | 1 Peter 1:20 | Christ’s redemptive role fixed in the eternal divine plan, not an afterthought | Ephesians 1:4 (election_and_predestination) | High |
| Priestly, royal, holy covenant-people identity | Exodus 19:5-6; Isaiah 43:20-21 | 1 Peter 2:9 | The church inherits and fulfills Israel’s own covenant-identity titles | No exact pipeline parallel term, but conceptually adjacent to Romans 12:1’s “living sacrifice” | Critical — see Part D, D2 |
| Israel’s “not my people” restored | Hosea 1:6, 9; 2:23 | 1 Peter 2:10 | Gentile-majority church included among God’s own people | Romans 9:25-26 (identical OT citation) | Critical — see Part D, D2 |
PART D — Parallels to Other Curricula in This Language Package (with Rendering-Consistency Rules)
| # | 1 Peter passage | Parallel passage(s) elsewhere in the German Language Package | Shared term/theme | Rendering-consistency rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| D1 | 1 Peter 1:1-2 (“elect exiles of the Dispersion”) | Romans 9-11 (Israel material); baseline israel and gentiles entries | Diaspora/Israel identity applied to the church | Use Erwählung/erwählt and Zerstreuung/Diaspora exactly as fixed in the baseline; apply the same historical-typological framing discipline already required for israel given Germany’s Staatsräson-linked sensitivity. Mandatory theologian review. |
| D2 | 1 Peter 2:4-10 (stone catena; priesthood; Hosea citation) | Romans 9:25-26 (Hosea); Romans 9:32-33 (Isaiah 28:16/8:14); Matthew 21:42 / Mark 12:10 / Luke 20:17 (Psalm 118:22) | Shared OT stone/people-of-God citations | Mandatory verbatim German match for each shared OT quotation across all citing curricula (see Part A, A4-A8). This is the single most extensive shared-citation cluster in the pipeline to date and should be treated as one coordinated terminology set, not translated independently per document. |
| D3 | 1 Peter 1:20 | Ephesians 1:4 (election_and_predestination) | Foreordination before the foundation of the world | Use the same phrase pattern (“vor Grundlegung der Welt” / “vor der Grundlegung der Welt”) consistently across both curricula. |
| D4 | 1 Peter 3:22 | Ephesians 1:20-22 (christs_supremacy_and_headship); Philippians 2:9-11 (highly_exalted, universal_lordship_confession); Colossians 1:16 (creator_and_sustainer_of_all) | Christ’s exaltation over angels, authorities, and powers | Render “Engel und Gewalten und Mächte” (or equivalent triad) consistently with the vocabulary already fixed for these baseline doctrines; echo Jesus Christus ist der Herr wherever the confessional formula from Philippians 2:11/Romans 10:9 is naturally in view. |
| D5 | 1 Peter 3:20 (Noah, the flood) | Matthew 24:37-39 (Olivet Discourse, “as it was in the days of Noah”) | Noah/flood typology | Keep “Noah,” “Arche” (ark), and “Sintflut” (flood) consistent in both curricula’s teaching material; note the shared narrative source (Genesis 6-8) explicitly. |
| D6 | 1 Peter 2:25; 5:1-4 (Shepherd/Overseer Christology; elder-shepherding charge) | John 10:11, 14 (seven_i_am_statements, “Ich bin der gute Hirte”); John 21:15-17 (Jesus’s threefold commission to Peter, “Weide meine Schafe / Hüte meine Lämmer”) | Shepherd/flock word-family | Render the Hirte word-family (Hirte/Ποιμήν, weiden or hüten/ποιμαίνω, Herde/ποίμνιον, Erzhirte/ἀρχιποίμην, Aufseher/ἐπίσκοπος) consistently across John 10, John 21, and 1 Peter 2:25/5:1-4, since these three passages together form one deliberate biographical and theological arc: Christ the Good Shepherd (John 10) commissions Peter to shepherd (John 21), and Peter in turn charges the church’s elders to shepherd under Christ’s own pattern (1 Peter 5). Mandatory theologian review of this cluster as a unit. |
| D7 | 1 Peter 4:8 (“love covers a multitude of sins”) | 1 Peter 2:24; 3:18 (Christ’s substitutionary suffering, within the same letter) | Interpersonal forbearance vs. atonement — must not be conflated | Mandatory cross-reference note in all teaching material: 4:8 describes believers covering one another’s faults through love, never a rival or supplementary atonement to Christ’s own once-for-all substitutionary death. |
| D8 | 1 Peter 1:2 (sprinkling of the blood, Exodus 24:8 background) | Matthew 26:28 (words_of_institution, “mein Blut des Bundes”) | Covenant-ratification blood theology | These are conceptually parallel (both draw on OT covenant-blood typology) but use different Greek vocabulary (ῥαντισμός vs. αἷμα…διαθήκης) and should NOT be forced into identical German wording; instead, surface the shared Exodus 24 background explicitly as a cross-reference in teaching notes. |
| D9 | 1 Peter 3:6 (Sarah calling Abraham “lord,” an ordinary marital usage) | Romans 10:9 (lord, Critical Lordship confession) | The mundane vs. exalted senses of κύριος/Herr | Use 1 Peter 3:6 as a positive teaching opportunity to explicitly distinguish the everyday German “Herr” (as in “Herr Müller”) from the exclusive divine-Lordship confession of Romans 10:9 — precisely the flattening risk the baseline’s lord entry already anticipated. Do not translate differently; teach the distinction explicitly instead. |
| D10 | 1 Peter 2:13-17 (submission to civil authority) | Romans 13:1-7 (civil-authority submission) | Submission to governing authorities | Keep terminology for “Obrigkeit”/civil authority and sich unterordnen consistent between the two curricula’s teaching material; both passages should be cross-referenced as complementary treatments of the same doctrine. |
| D11 | 1 Peter 2:18-25 (household servants); 3:1-7 (wives/husbands); 5:5 (younger/elders) | Ephesians 5:21-6:9; Colossians 3:18-4:1 (household codes) | Household submission code | Reuse baseline sich unterordnen exactly across all occurrences; apply the same mandatory theologian-AND-native-speaker review already required for the Ephesians/Colossians household codes, given identical German constitutional (Grundgesetz Art. 3) sensitivity. |
| D12 | 1 Peter 2:21-25 (Christ’s suffering as pattern for imitation) | Philippians 2:5-8 (Christ’s humility as pattern, christlike_humility, kenosis) | Imitatio Christi through suffering/humility | Cross-reference explicitly in teaching material: both passages ground ethical imitation in Christ’s own self-giving pattern, though via different vocabulary (ὑπογραμμός/Vorbild vs. the Christ Hymn’s κένωσις/entäußerte sich). |
| D13 | 1 Peter 4:10-11 (spiritual gifts, stewardship) | Romans 12:6-8 (spiritual_gifts) | Grace-gifts for community service | Reuse baseline Gnadengaben exactly. |
| D14 | 1 Peter 4:11 (closing doxology, “to him be glory and dominion”) | Romans 11:36; 16:27 (doxological formulas) | Doxology pattern | Keep the “ihm sei…in Ewigkeit, Amen” doxological cadence consistent in register across curricula. |
| D15 | 1 Peter 5:1 (“witness of the sufferings of Christ”) | Matthew 26-27; Mark 14-15; Luke 22-23; John 18-19 (Passion Narratives, all already in this pipeline); Matthew 17:1-13 (Transfiguration, where Peter himself is present) | Peter as eyewitness apostolic authority | Teaching material should explicitly name Peter as a first-person witness within the very Gospel narratives already translated in this pipeline, strengthening the letter’s own claimed authority. No specific German rendering conflict, but a valuable pedagogical cross-reference. |
| D16 | 1 Peter 3:21 (“baptism…saves”); 1:3, 1:23 (“wiedergeboren”) | Matthew 28:19 (great_commission, Trinitarian baptismal formula); Romans 6:3-4 (baptism into Christ’s death and resurrection) | Baptismal theology | Do not force these into identical wording (each passage makes a distinct theological point), but explicitly cross-reference all three in mandatory theologian-authored framing material addressing the German Lutheran/Catholic sacramental (Taufe als Gnadenmittel) versus Reformed/Believer’s-church divide already flagged in the baseline’s grace entry. |
| D17 | 1 Peter 5:13 (“Mark, my son”) | Gospel of Mark (entire book, already in this pipeline) | Traditional authorship link (Papias/Eusebius: John Mark as Peter’s amanuensis for the Gospel of Mark) | Historical-background note recommended, consistent with the pipeline’s practice of transparent textual/historical footnoting (cf. the Mark 16:9-20 and Babylon=Rome notes); not a translation-risk item, but a valuable teaching cross-reference tying two curricula together. |
PART E — Chapter Coverage Confirmation
| Chapter | OT quotations found | OT allusions found | Messianic/typological content | Cross-pipeline parallels | Status |

| 1 Peter 2 | A3-A12 | B8-B12 | Stone catena, Suffering Servant, priesthood/nation titles | D2, D6 (partial), D9, D10, D11 (partial) | Reviewed — highest-density chapter in the letter |
| 1 Peter 3 | A13, A14 | B12-B15 | Sarah/Abraham, Isaiah 8 divine-name substitution, Noah/flood, exaltation | D4, D5, D9, D11 (partial), D16 (partial) | Reviewed — dense coverage |

| 1 Peter 5 | A17 | B18-B20 | Shepherd/chief Shepherd Christology, humility | D6, D12 (n/a direct restated), D15, D17 | Reviewed — moderate coverage, structurally significant (elders doctrine) |
No chapter of 1 Peter lacks load-bearing OT or cross-pipeline content; all five chapters are represented above with specific, citable passages rather than general summary.
PART F — Summary Table of Mandatory Verbatim-Match Shared Citations
| Shared OT text | 1 Peter location | Other pipeline location(s) | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
