Doctrine Analysis
11 — Doctrine Analysis: Isaiah (German)
This document is the full doctrine matrix for the Isaiah curriculum, generated consistent with doctrine_risk_registry.json (same 36 doctrines, same risk tiers, same routing). It supersedes no baseline doctrine; it extends the Romans–Galatians–Ephesians–Philippians–Colossians–Matthew–Mark–Luke–John doctrine set with Isaiah-specific material, cross-referencing the baseline wherever the same doctrine recurs (Deity of Christ, Election, Salvation, Righteousness/Justification, Auferstehung, etc.).
FULL-BOOK COVERAGE MANDATE: Every one of Isaiah’s 66 chapters is accounted for below, either as the primary supporting passage of a load-bearing doctrine or explicitly folded into the thematically nearest doctrine, per the folding notes already recorded in doctrine_risk_registry.json. No chapter is silently omitted.
The core passage, Isaiah 53:1-12, anchors the curriculum theologically (Doctrine 29, “The Suffering Servant and Substitutionary Atonement”) but is never the scope boundary — this analysis spans Isaiah 1–66.

Part 2 — Doctrine Matrix (organized by the seven curriculum doctrine clusters)
Risk tiers, doctrine names, and german_doctrine_name values below are identical to doctrine_risk_registry.json. “Translation Risk” summarizes the German-specific lexical/cultural risk; “Review Routing” matches the registry exactly.
Cluster A — The Holiness and Majesty of God (Isaiah 6)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Holiness and Majesty of God (Die Heiligkeit und Majestät Gottes) | 6:1-8; 1:4; 5:16; 37:23; 40:25; 41:14; 43:15; 57:15 | Critical | The “heilig, heilig, heilig” is already fixed in German Sanctus liturgy (Catholic Mass and Lutheran service alike); risk is under-teaching its confrontational force through liturgical familiarity, not mistranslation. “HERR der Heerscharen” needs reviewer sign-off per occurrence (Heerscharen vs. Zebaoth, cf. “Ein feste Burg”). | Human theologian |
| The LORD as Judge, Lawgiver, and King (Der HERR als Richter, Gesetzgeber und König) | 33:17-22 | Medium | Triple-office formula; useful proto-Trinitarian teaching illustration but must not be over-read as developed Trinitarian doctrine. | Native speaker review |
Cluster B — The Coming Messiah and Suffering Servant (core cluster; contains the core passage)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Sign of Immanuel and the Virgin Conception (Das Zeichen Immanuels und die Jungfrauengeburt) | 7:10-16; 8:8, 10 | Critical | Almah’s primary marker is age/marital status, not virginity; NT citation (LXX parthenos, Matthew 1:23) fixes “Jungfrau” as doctrinally authoritative. Mandatory dual framing. “Immanuel, das ist verdolmetscht: Gott mit uns” must match Matthew 1:23 exactly. | Human theologian |
| The Stone of Stumbling and the Tested Cornerstone (Der Stein des Anstoßes und der bewährte Eckstein) | 8:14-15; 22:22; 28:16 | Critical | Must align with baseline’s Romans 9:33 phrasing exactly; underlies Ephesians 2:20 and 1 Peter 2:6; 22:22 reapplied to Christ in Revelation 3:7. | Human theologian |
| The Messianic Child and His Divine Throne-Names (Das messianische Kind und seine göttlichen Thronnamen) | 9:1-7 | Critical | ”El Gibbor” (starker Gott) is direct deity ascription, continuing the baseline’s Critical deity_of_christ cluster. “Avi’ad” (ewiger Vater) risks collapsing Father/Son distinction if left unglossed — mandatory Trinitarian-framing gloss. | Human theologian |
| The Messianic Branch Motif and the Root of Jesse (Das messianische Zweig-Motiv und die Wurzel Jesse) | 4:2-6; 11:1-10, 16; (echoed 53:2) | High | Must track consistently across 4:2, 11:1/10, and 53:2 as one developing motif, not three unrelated images. Sevenfold Spirit-description (11:2) preserved unqualified, per the Ephesians 4:4-6 sevenfold-formula discipline. | Human theologian |
| The Servant of the LORD: Corporate and Individual (Der Knecht des HERRN: kollektiv und individuell) | 41:8-9; 44:1-2; 49:1-6 | High | ”Knecht” (never “Diener”) must serve both the corporate (Israel) and individual senses without lexical differentiation; the ambiguity requires exposition, not a different word. | Human theologian |
| A Light to the Nations: The First Servant Song (Ein Licht der Heiden: Das erste Knechtslied) | 2:1-5; 42:1-9 | Critical | Central OT proof-text quoted of Christ in Luke 2:32 (baseline’s nunc_dimittis); must reuse established Heiden exactly. | Human theologian |
| Cyrus, the LORD’s Anointed, and the Limits of Messiah Language (Kyrus, der Gesalbte des HERRN, und die Grenzen der Messias-Sprache) | 44:28; 45:1-13 | Critical | Mandatory disambiguation: lower-case “Gesalbter” for Cyrus, never capitalized “Messias” (reserved for the Davidic/Christological sense). | Human theologian |
| The Second and Third Servant Songs and Willing Submission (Das zweite und dritte Knechtslied und die freiwillige Unterwerfung) | 49:1-7; 50:4-11 | Critical | Concrete physical-abuse description (50:6) must remain as concrete in German as in Hebrew, matching the Schuldschein concreteness discipline; cross-reference the Gospel Passion accounts explicitly. | Human theologian |
| The Herald of Good News and the Arm of the LORD (Der Freudenbote und der Arm des HERRN) | 51:9-11; 52:1-12 | Critical | 52:7 is the OT root of the entire Evangelium concept, quoted in Romans 10:15. 52:13’s exaltation echoes the baseline’s Philippians 2:9 “hoch erhöht” pattern without forcing lexical identity. | Human theologian |
| The Suffering Servant and Substitutionary Atonement (Der leidende Knecht und die stellvertretende Sühne) | 52:13-53:12 (CORE PASSAGE) | Critical | 53:11’s causative-declarative yatsdiq is the single highest-priority cross-document consistency requirement in this curriculum: “gerecht machen” risks a transformative/infused-grace reading; “für gerecht erklären” preserves the forensic sense matching Rechtfertigung. Mandatory theologian review + translator note, every occurrence. Luther’s “durch seine Wunden sind wir heil geworden” (v.5) is a rare theologically appropriate historic “heil” use requiring explicit sign-off. | Human theologian |
| The Spirit-Anointed Herald and the Year of the LORD’s Favor (Der geistgesalbte Verkündiger und das Gnadenjahr des HERRN) | 61:1-11 | Critical | Mandatory exact reuse: must match the baseline’s fixed nazareth_manifesto term (“Der Geist des Herrn ist auf mir… den Armen gute Botschaft zu bringen”) verbatim per Luke 4:18-19. | Human theologian |
Cluster C — Judgment on Israel’s Idolatry and Injustice
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Covenant Lawsuit and Universal Human Accountability (Der Bundesrechtsstreit und die allgemeine Rechenschaftspflicht) | 1:2-31; 3:1-15 | High | Pesha (“Missetat/Übertretung”) must retain intensified “active rebellion” force distinct from generic Sünde, echoing the baseline’s colloquial-trivialization caution; same root recurs in the core passage (53:5, 8, 12). | Human theologian |
| Judgment on Israel’s Idolatry: The Impotence of False Gods (Das Gericht über Israels Götzendienst) | 2:8, 18-20; 40:18-20; 41:21-24; 44:9-20; 46:1-7; 57:5-13 | Critical | German-specific: “Idol” is dominated by pop-culture/celebrity usage; “Götzen/Götzenbilder” is mandatory throughout — the established biblical-register term actively protects the doctrine from trivialization. | Human theologian |
| The Woe Oracles as Prophetic Judgment Form (Die Weherufe als prophetische Gerichtsform) | 5:8-23; 9:8-10:4; 10:1-4; 28:1; 29:1; 30:1; 31:1; 33:1; 45:9-10 | Medium | ”Wehe” already fixed via the Matthew 23 baseline term; low lexical risk, but the recurring genre (funeral lament turned judgment oracle) should be taught as a deliberate structural feature spanning the book, not isolated warnings. | Native speaker review |
| God’s Justice and Social Ethics (Gottes Recht und soziale Ethik) | 1:17, 21; 5:1-7; 9:7 | High | Mishpat (Recht) must stay distinguishable from tsedaqah (Gerechtigkeit, Critical in the baseline); collapsing them blurs the forensic-declarative sense the core passage (53:11) depends on. | Human theologian |
| True Worship Versus Empty Ritual (Wahrer Gottesdienst statt leerer Ritualismus) | 1:11-15; 58:1-14 | Medium | Redefines fasting/worship as active social justice rather than ritual observance alone; low lexical risk. | Native speaker review |
| The Day Star Taunt and Its Later Christian Reception (Das Spottlied vom Morgenstern) | 14:4-21 | Critical | German-specific collision: “Morgenstern” carries Christ’s positive self-title (Revelation 22:16) alongside this taunt-song’s satirical use. The Latin-derived “Lucifer = Satan” tradition must be presented as later development, never merged with the passage’s own primary claim or with Christ’s title. | Human theologian |
Cluster D — Comfort and Restoration for God’s People
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Comfort and Restoration for God’s People (Trost und Wiederherstellung für Gottes Volk) | 39:1-8; 40:1-31; 54:1-17; 62:1-12; 63:15-19 | Critical | Core doctrine. “Tröstet, tröstet mein Volk” is fixed via Lutherbibel/Handel’s Messiah/Advent liturgy; must be preserved exactly. The chs. 1-39 judgment → ch. 40ff comfort hinge is a structural feature to teach explicitly. Chesed (54:8, 10) renders “Güte/Treue,” never bare “Gnade.” | Human theologian |
| Monotheism and God’s Incomparable Uniqueness (Der Monotheismus und Gottes unvergleichliche Einzigartigkeit) | 40:12-31; 41:21-29; 44:6-20; 45:5-7; 46:1-47:15 | High | ”Ich bin der Erste und der Letzte” (44:6) anticipates Revelation 1:17/22:13’s Christ self-designation. “Götzen,” never “Idole,” throughout this extended block. | Human theologian |
| God’s Faithfulness for His Own Name’s Sake (Gottes Treue um seines eigenen Namens willen) | 48:1-11 | Medium | Grounds God’s patience in his own character, not Israel’s merit — an OT echo of the baseline’s Critical grace-not-merit principle; low lexical risk. | Native speaker review |
| The Highway of Holiness and the Ransomed Return (Der Weg der Heiligkeit und die Heimkehr der Erlösten) | 35:1-10 | High | Directly anticipates 40:3’s “way of the LORD,” quoted of John the Baptist in all four Gospels (baseline scope); connection must be made explicit in teaching material. | Human theologian |
| Sheol and the Ambiguous Hope of the Afterlife (Scheol und die noch unbestimmte Hoffnung) | 38:9-20; 14:9, 15 | Medium | Transliterate “Scheol,” never translate as “Hölle” — avoids importing the later NT Gehenna/eternal-punishment category onto this shadowy OT term. | Native speaker review |
| The Everlasting Covenant of Peace and God’s Steadfast Love (Der ewige Bund des Friedens und Gottes beständige Güte) | 54:1-17; 63:7-14 | High | Chesed (Güte/Treue) must stay distinguishable from the baseline’s Critical Gnade (charis); German lacks one clean equivalent. | Human theologian |
| The Gracious Invitation and God’s Reliable Word (Die gnädige Einladung und Gottes zuverlässiges Wort) | 55:1-13 | Medium | Universal, unqualified gospel-invitation (“without money and without price”) anticipating the baseline’s grace-not-merit doctrine; low lexical risk. | Native speaker review |
Cluster E — The Sovereignty of God over the Nations
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| God’s Sovereignty over the Nations and Empires (Gottes Souveränität über Nationen und Weltmächte) | 10:5-34; 13:1-23:18; 34:1-17; 36:1-37:38 | High | Long oracle-against-nations block (Babylon, Moab, Damascus, Cush, Egypt, Tyre, Edom, Arabia, Assyria); “Tag des HERRN” must stay consistently distinguished from ordinary calendrical references across this extended material. | Human theologian |
| The LORD as Judge, Lawgiver, and King (see Cluster A) | 33:17-22 | Medium | (See Cluster A entry.) | Native speaker review |
| The Divine Warrior and the Day of Vengeance (Der göttliche Krieger und der Tag der Vergeltung) | 34:1-17; 63:1-6 | High | ”Tag der Rache” risks a merely personal-vindictiveness reading; “Tag der Vergeltung/Abrechnung” preserves the judicial-vindication sense. Must be paired with the co-occurring favor language (61:2) to avoid an imbalanced, vengeance-only reading. | Human theologian |
| Cosmic Judgment and the Hope of Bodily Resurrection (Das kosmische Gericht und die Hoffnung auf leibliche Auferstehung) | 24:1-27:13; 29:18; 35:5 | High | 26:19’s “your dead shall live” is among the clearest OT resurrection texts, feeding the baseline’s Auferstehung doctrine; must not be flattened into a merely national-restoration metaphor without also presenting genuine resurrection-hope. Healing-signs motif (29:18; 35:5) cited in Matthew 11:5. | Human theologian |
| Monotheism and God’s Incomparable Uniqueness (see Cluster D) | 40:12-31; 41:21-29; 44:6-20; 45:5-7; 46:1-47:15 | High | (See Cluster D entry.) | Human theologian |
| The Potter and the Clay: Divine Sovereignty in Election (Der Töpfer und der Ton) | 45:9; 64:7-8 | High | Direct source-image for Romans 9:20-21 (baseline’s Critical election cluster); must not be read as denying human moral responsibility, contrary to Isaiah’s own repeated repentance-calls. | Human theologian |
Cluster F — Salvation Extended to the Nations
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A Light to the Nations: The First Servant Song (see Cluster B) | 2:1-5; 42:1-9 | Critical | (See Cluster B entry.) | Human theologian |
| The Inclusion of Egypt and Assyria as God’s People (Die Einbeziehung Ägyptens und Assyriens als Gottes Volk) | 19:16-25 | High | Astonishingly inclusive covenant-people language applied to Israel’s historic oppressors; risk is exposition (must not minimize as poetic hyperbole), matching the baseline’s universality-claims seriousness (Romans 3:23; 10:12-13). | Human theologian |
| A House of Prayer for All Peoples (Ein Bethaus für alle Völker) | 56:1-8; 60:1-22; 66:1-14, 19-21 | Critical | Directly quoted by Jesus in Mark 11:17 (baseline scope); the single clearest OT proof-text for universal worship scope. Flag for exact consistency once a fixed TM entry exists for the Mark 11:17 citation. | Human theologian |
| The Redeemer and Savior of Israel (Der Erlöser und Retter Israels) | 12:1-6; 43:1-21; 44:6, 24; 47:4; 49:26; 59:1-21; 63:16 | Critical | Root chain yasha → yeshu’ah (Rettung) → Yeshua/Jesus; must reuse established Rettung family exactly. Go’el (Erlöser) retains concrete kinsman-redemption background. 59:20 directly cited in Romans 11:26. | Human theologian |
| Final Judgment and Universal Worship (Das Endgericht und die universale Anbetung) | 66:15-24 | High | The closing vision holds universal worship (v.23) and ongoing judgment (v.24) side by side without resolution; must not be prematurely harmonized. 66:24 is the direct source of Jesus’ Gehenna language in Mark 9:48 (baseline scope). | Human theologian |
Cluster G — The New Heavens and New Earth
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The New Heavens and New Earth (Die neuen Himmel und die neue Erde) | 65:17-25; 66:22 | Critical | Core doctrine; direct OT source-text for Revelation 21:1 and 2 Peter 3:13. Must stay lexically distinct from the baseline’s Galatians “neue Schöpfung” — related concept, distinct phrase, never silently merged. | Human theologian |
| Cosmic Judgment and the Hope of Bodily Resurrection (see Cluster E) | 24:1-27:13; 29:18; 35:5 | High | (See Cluster E entry.) | Human theologian |
| Final Judgment and Universal Worship (see Cluster F) | 66:15-24 | High | (See Cluster F entry.) | Human theologian |
Part 3 — Risk Summary (must match doctrine_risk_registry.json exactly)
| Risk Tier | Count | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 16 | Human theologian, every occurrence |
| High | 13 | Human theologian |
| Medium | 7 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 0 | Automated review only |
| Total requiring theologian review | 29 | |

| Total automated-only | 0 |
Note: several doctrines are cross-listed across two curriculum clusters (e.g. “A Light to the Nations” appears under both the Coming Messiah/Suffering Servant cluster and the Salvation Extended to the Nations cluster; “Monotheism and God’s Incomparable Uniqueness” and “The Potter and the Clay” appear under both Comfort/Restoration or Sovereignty and other clusters as thematically appropriate). These cross-listings reflect genuine multi-doctrine passages in Isaiah and do not inflate the total unique-doctrine count of 36, which matches the registry exactly.
Part 4 — Notes for Phase 2 Consumption
- Every doctrine above inherits its exact German rendering, risk tier, and routing from
doctrine_risk_registry.json; this document adds no new doctrines and changes no tier. - The core passage (Isaiah 52:13-53:12) requires the highest concentration of theologian review of any single text block in this curriculum (11 distinct key terms, all Critical, per
08_core_glossary.mdSection B). - Chapters not separately tabled above as “load-bearing directly” contribute no new terms or doctrines beyond their folding target and are confirmed reviewed in Part 1.
- Cross-pipeline consistency locks (Isaiah 61:1-2 ↔ Luke 4:18-19; Isaiah 7:14 ↔ Matthew 1:23; Isaiah 8:14/28:16 ↔ Romans 9:33; Isaiah 59:20 ↔ Romans 11:26; Isaiah 56:7 ↔ Mark 11:17; Isaiah 66:24 ↔ Mark 9:48) must be verified against the existing baseline
translation_memory.jsonentries before Phase 2 begins.
See 08_core_glossary.md for term-level detail and doctrine_risk_registry.json for the machine-readable routing table this document is derived from.
Critical Risk Doctrines
The Holiness and Majesty of God
German name: Die Heiligkeit und Majestät Gottes
Key terms: holy, glory, holy_one_of_israel, lord_of_hosts, seraphim
Review routing: Human theologian
The triple ‘heilig, heilig, heilig’ is already fixed in the German Sanctus liturgy (Catholic Mass and Lutheran liturgy alike), so the risk is not mistranslation but under-teaching its liturgical familiarity, which can lead to rote, unreflective hearing rather than confrontation with the text’s original overwhelming force. ‘HERR der Heerscharen’ requires reviewer sign-off per occurrence given competing liturgical conventions (Zebaoth vs. Heerscharen, cf. ‘Ein feste Burg’).
Judgment on Israel’s Idolatry: The Impotence of False Gods
German name: Das Gericht über Israels Götzendienst: Die Machtlosigkeit der Götzen
Key terms: idols
Review routing: Human theologian
GERMAN-SPECIFIC: contemporary German ‘Idol’ is dominated by pop-culture/celebrity usage (casting-show franchises), a genuine collision risk that would trivialize this doctrine’s polemic force into fandom language. ‘Götzen/Götzenbilder’ is mandatory throughout; this is a case where the established biblical-register German term actively protects the doctrine from an otherwise serious contemporary-usage collision.
The Sign of Immanuel and the Virgin Conception
German name: Das Zeichen Immanuels und die Jungfrauengeburt
Key terms: almah_virgin, immanuel
Review routing: Human theologian
The single most historically contested lexical choice in the book: almah’s primary marker is age/marital status, not virginity per se, while the NT’s own citation (via LXX parthenos, Matthew 1:23) establishes ‘Jungfrau’ as the doctrinally authoritative rendering for this curriculum’s Christian teaching context. Mandatory dual framing (historical-lexical note plus doctrinally-binding NT-citation rendering) is required, and ‘Immanuel, das ist verdolmetscht: Gott mit uns’ must match the Matthew 1:23 baseline term exactly, since any deviation would create an internal contradiction within this pipeline.
The Stone of Stumbling and the Tested Cornerstone
German name: Der Stein des Anstoßes und der bewährte Eckstein
Key terms: stone_of_stumbling, cornerstone
Review routing: Human theologian
Directly cited (conflated) in Romans 9:33, already within this pipeline’s baseline scope; German rendering must align with the baseline’s Romans 9:33 phrasing (‘Grundstein… Eckstein’) to preserve cross-document consistency. Also underlies Ephesians 2:20’s ecclesial foundation and 1 Peter 2:6; the minor court official’s ‘key of the house of David’ (22:22) is later reapplied to Christ’s own authority in Revelation 3:7, a cross-reference worth surfacing in teaching material.
The Messianic Child and His Divine Throne-Names
German name: Das messianische Kind und seine göttlichen Thronnamen
Key terms: wonderful_counselor, mighty_god, everlasting_father, prince_of_peace
Review routing: Human theologian
‘El Gibbor’ (starker Gott) is a direct ascription of full deity to the promised child, directly continuing the baseline’s Critical deity_of_christ doctrine cluster and must never be softened to a merely godlike-hero reading. ‘Avi’ad’ (ewiger Vater) risks a naive German reader collapsing the distinction between the Father and the Son if left unglossed, requiring mandatory Trinitarian-framing exposition.
The Day Star Taunt and Its Later Christian Reception
German name: Das Spottlied vom Morgenstern und seine spätere christliche Rezeption
Key terms: day_star_son_of_dawn
Review routing: Human theologian
GERMAN-SPECIFIC COLLISION: German ‘Morgenstern’ carries the exact double resonance of Christ’s own positive self-title in Revelation 22:16 and this taunt-song’s satirical use against a defeated Babylonian king. The later Latin-Vulgate-derived ‘Lucifer = Satan’s fall’ tradition must be presented as a non-mandatory later theological development, not the passage’s own primary historical claim, and the three referents (Babylonian king / Satan-fall tradition / Christ) must never be silently merged in German-language teaching material.
Comfort and Restoration for God’s People
German name: Trost und Wiederherstellung für Gottes Volk
Key terms: comfort, steadfast_love_chesed, father
Review routing: Human theologian
CORE DOCTRINE. ‘Tröstet, tröstet mein Volk’ is the fixed, liturgically established Lutherbibel rendering used in Handel’s Messiah German performances and Advent liturgy; must be preserved exactly. The doctrine’s tone-reversal (from judgment in chs. 1-39 to comfort from ch. 40 onward) must be taught as a structural hinge of the whole book, not merely one verse among many. Chesed (54:8, 10) must render as ‘Güte/Treue,’ not bare ‘Gnade,’ per the mandatory disambiguation note distinguishing it from the baseline’s Critical charis-based Gnade doctrine.
A Light to the Nations: The First Servant Song
German name: Ein Licht der Heiden: Das erste Knechtslied
Key terms: light_to_the_nations, gentiles, bruised_reed_smoking_flax
Review routing: Human theologian
The central OT proof-text for salvation extended to the nations, directly quoted of Christ in Luke 2:32 (already the baseline’s Critical nunc_dimittis term); must reuse established Heiden exactly and make the Simeon’s-song citation explicit in teaching material rather than leaving the connection implicit.
The Redeemer and Savior of Israel
German name: Der Erlöser und Retter Israels
Key terms: redeemer, savior
Review routing: Human theologian
The deepest OT root-connection in the book: yasha (‘to save’) -> yeshu’ah (‘salvation,’ established Rettung) -> Yeshua (Jesus’ own Hebrew name); German ‘Retter/Erretter’ must reuse the baseline’s Rettung family exactly, and teaching material should make this Hebrew-root-to-the-name-Jesus connection explicit. Go’el (‘Erlöser’) must retain its concrete legal-familial kinsman-redemption background. Isaiah 59:20 is directly cited in Romans 11:26 (already within this pipeline’s baseline scope, part of the Unity of Jews and Gentiles / Israel’s future doctrine) — flag this cross-reference explicitly.
Cyrus, the LORD’s Anointed, and the Limits of Messiah Language
German name: Kyrus, der Gesalbte des HERRN, und die Grenzen der Messias-Sprache
Key terms: anointed_one_general_sense, messiah
Review routing: Human theologian
MANDATORY DISAMBIGUATION. Mashiach here designates a pagan Persian emperor commissioned for a specific historical task, not the future Davidic Messiah; the German rendering must use lower-case ‘Gesalbter’ rather than the capitalized theological title ‘Messias’ (reserved by this curriculum, per the Romans baseline, for the Davidic/Christological sense), so that Cyrus is never confused with, or presented as, the Messiah proper.
The Second and Third Servant Songs and Willing Submission
German name: Das zweite und dritte Knechtslied und die freiwillige Unterwerfung
Key terms: called_from_the_womb, opened_my_ear, gave_my_back_to_those_who_strike
Review routing: Human theologian
The Servant’s willing, attentive obedience (50:5-6) precedes and grounds his willing suffering, directly anticipating 53:7’s silence under affliction; the concrete physical-abuse description (flogging, spitting) must remain as concrete in German as in the Hebrew, matching the concreteness discipline already established for other atonement metaphors in the baseline (e.g. Schuldschein, Colossians 2:14), and should be cross-referenced explicitly with the Gospels’ Passion accounts.
The Herald of Good News and the Arm of the LORD
German name: Der Freudenbote und der Arm des HERRN
Key terms: good_news_herald, arm_of_the_lord, exalted_and_lifted_up_servant
Review routing: Human theologian
52:7 is the OT’s clearest single-verse root of the entire ‘Evangelium’ concept, quoted directly in Romans 10:15 (already within this pipeline’s baseline scope); German rendering should echo established Evangelium vocabulary in exposition. 52:13’s exaltation language is a direct structural/thematic echo of the baseline’s Philippians 2:9 ‘hoch erhöht’ Christ-Hymn pattern and should draw on that vocabulary without forcing an artificial lexical identity between the Hebrew and Greek terms.
The Suffering Servant and Substitutionary Atonement
German name: Der leidende Knecht und die stellvertretende Sühne
Key terms: suffering_servant, man_of_sorrows, borne_our_griefs, pierced_and_crushed, by_his_wounds_we_are_healed, iniquity_laid_on_him, lamb_led_to_slaughter, guilt_offering, servant_justifies_many, poured_out_his_soul, intercession
Review routing: Human theologian
THE CORE DOCTRINE of this curriculum. Isaiah 53:11’s causative-declarative Hebrew verb (yatsdiq) is this pipeline’s single highest-priority cross-document consistency requirement: the Lutherbibel’s ‘gerecht machen’ can be heard as a transformative/infusive process, risking drift toward the Catholic infused-grace reading the Romans baseline explicitly guards against, whereas ‘für gerecht erklären’ more transparently preserves the forensic sense matching the baseline’s Rechtfertigung/zugerechnete Gerechtigkeit doctrine; mandatory theologian review with an explicit translator note is required for every occurrence. Additionally, Luther’s ‘durch seine Wunden sind wir heil geworden’ (v.5) is one of the rare theologically appropriate historic uses of ‘heil’ the Romans baseline’s Nazi-era-contamination caution anticipates, requiring explicit reviewer sign-off rather than blanket adoption or avoidance.
A House of Prayer for All Peoples
German name: Ein Bethaus für alle Völker
Key terms: house_of_prayer_for_all_peoples, gentiles
Review routing: Human theologian
Directly quoted by Jesus in the Temple-cleansing (Mark 11:17, already within this pipeline’s baseline scope); the single clearest OT proof-text for the universal, all-nations scope of true worship. German rendering must be flagged for exact consistency once a fixed TM entry exists for the Mark 11:17 citation.
The New Heavens and New Earth
German name: Die neuen Himmel und die neue Erde
Key terms: new_heavens_and_new_earth, former_things_not_remembered
Review routing: Human theologian
CORE DOCTRINE. Direct OT source-text for Revelation 21:1 and 2 Peter 3:13’s eschatological vision; must be flagged for mandatory theologian review given its status as this doctrine’s OT anchor text. Note the thematic (not lexical) connection to the baseline’s Galatians ‘neue Schöpfung’ term — a related concept, distinct phrase, must not be silently merged into a single rendering.
The Spirit-Anointed Herald and the Year of the LORD’s Favor
German name: Der geistgesalbte Verkündiger und das Gnadenjahr des HERRN
Key terms: holy_spirit, messiah, day_of_vengeance
Review routing: Human theologian
MANDATORY EXACT REUSE. This text is directly, verbatim quoted by Jesus in Luke 4:18-19, already fixed in the baseline as the Critical nazareth_manifesto term (‘Der Geist des Herrn ist auf mir… den Armen gute Botschaft zu bringen’); this curriculum’s German rendering of Isaiah 61:1-2 must match that established phrase exactly, since any deviation would create an internal contradiction between the Isaiah and Luke curricula within the same pipeline.
High Risk Doctrines
Covenant Lawsuit and Universal Human Accountability
German name: Der Bundesrechtsstreit und die allgemeine Rechenschaftspflicht
Key terms: sin, rebellion_transgression, justice_mishpat
Review routing: Human theologian
Pesha (‘Missetat/Übertretung’) must retain its intensified ‘active rebellion’ force distinct from generic Sünde, echoing the Romans baseline’s caution about colloquial trivialization of Sünde — this matters especially since the same root recurs in the Critical core passage (53:5, 8, 12). The courtroom-lawsuit genre (Rechtsstreit) applied here is a covenant proceeding, not a modern legal analogy, and must be taught as such.
God’s Justice and Social Ethics
German name: Gottes Recht und soziale Ethik
Key terms: justice_mishpat, righteousness
Review routing: Human theologian
Mishpat (Recht) must be kept distinguishable from tsedaqah (Gerechtigkeit, already Critical in the baseline) in exposition, since Isaiah regularly pairs the two as complementary, not identical, concepts; collapsing them would blur the forensic-declarative sense Gerechtigkeit carries in the baseline’s justification doctrine, which the core passage (53:11) depends on.
The Messianic Branch Motif and the Root of Jesse
German name: Das messianische Zweig-Motiv und die Wurzel Jesse
Key terms: branch_root_messianic, holy_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
Must be tracked consistently across 4:2, 11:1/10, and the core passage’s 53:2 so German learners see one developing Messianic-Branch motif rather than three unrelated botanical images. The sevenfold Spirit-description (11:2) should be preserved as a deliberate, complete, unqualified list per the discipline already established for other sevenfold formulas in the baseline (Ephesians 4:4-6).
God’s Sovereignty over the Nations and Empires
German name: Gottes Souveränität über Nationen und Weltmächte
Key terms: day_of_the_lord, providence
Review routing: Human theologian
This oracle-against-nations material spans a long block of text (Babylon, Moab, Damascus, Cush, Egypt, Tyre, Edom, Arabia, Assyria) with recurring ‘Day of the LORD’ vocabulary; German ‘Tag des HERRN’ is standard, but reviewers must keep it consistently distinguished from ordinary calendrical references across this extended, chapter-spanning material, and must not let the sheer length of the material cause inconsistent terminology to creep in.
The Inclusion of Egypt and Assyria as God’s People
German name: Die Einbeziehung Ägyptens und Assyriens als Gottes Volk
Key terms: gentiles, mission
Review routing: Human theologian
An astonishingly inclusive vision applying covenant-people language (‘mein Volk,’ ‘mein Werk,’ ‘mein Erbteil’) to Israel’s historic oppressors. The risk here is exposition rather than lexis: reviewers must not minimize this as poetic hyperbole given its direct support for the nations doctrine, and must present it with the same seriousness the baseline requires for universality claims (Romans 3:23; 10:12-13).
Cosmic Judgment and the Hope of Bodily Resurrection
German name: Das kosmische Gericht und die Hoffnung auf leibliche Auferstehung
Key terms: swallow_up_death, your_dead_shall_live
Review routing: Human theologian
26:19’s ‘your dead shall live’ is among the clearest OT bodily-resurrection texts, feeding directly into the baseline’s established Auferstehung doctrine; must not be flattened into a merely national-restoration metaphor (a live scholarly debate) without also presenting its canonical role as genuine resurrection-hope, cross-referenced with 1 Corinthians 15:54 and Revelation 21:4. The healing-signs motif (29:18; 35:5) anticipates Jesus’ ministry, cited in Matthew 11:5.
The Divine Warrior and the Day of Vengeance
German name: Der göttliche Krieger und der Tag der Vergeltung
Key terms: day_of_vengeance, trodden_the_winepress_alone
Review routing: Human theologian
German ‘Tag der Rache’ risks a merely personal-vindictiveness reading; ‘Tag der Vergeltung/Abrechnung’ better preserves the judicial-vindication sense. Must be paired in teaching material with its co-occurring comfort/favor language (61:2, already the baseline’s nazareth_manifesto passage) to avoid an imbalanced, vengeance-only reading of God’s justice.
The Highway of Holiness and the Ransomed Return
German name: Der Weg der Heiligkeit und die Heimkehr der Erlösten
Key terms: highway_of_holiness, ransomed_of_the_lord
Review routing: Human theologian
Directly anticipates 40:3’s ‘way of the LORD,’ quoted of John the Baptist in all four Gospels, already within this pipeline’s baseline scope; the connection must be made explicit in teaching material, not left implicit, since German ‘Weg der Heiligkeit’ alone does not surface this cross-reference automatically.
Monotheism and God’s Incomparable Uniqueness
German name: Der Monotheismus und Gottes unvergleichliche Einzigartigkeit
Key terms: idols
Review routing: Human theologian
‘Ich bin der Erste und der Letzte’ (44:6) directly anticipates the divine self-designation reapplied to Christ in Revelation 1:17/22:13, a supporting cross-reference for the baseline’s deity-of-Christ doctrine cluster. German idol-polemic across this extended block must consistently use ‘Götzen,’ never ‘Idole,’ given the pop-culture collision documented under the idolatry doctrine above.
The Servant of the LORD: Corporate and Individual
German name: Der Knecht des HERRN: kollektiv und individuell
Key terms: servant_of_god, election
Review routing: Human theologian
‘Servant’ is a genuinely flexible term shifting between the corporate nation (Israel/Jacob) and, increasingly from ch. 42 onward, a distinct individual figure who suffers on the nation’s behalf; this deliberate ambiguity requires explicit exposition rather than a different lexical choice, since German ‘Knecht’ (the fixed Lutherbibel/OT-scholarship term, never ‘Diener’) must serve both senses without collapsing the distinction.
The Everlasting Covenant of Peace and God’s Steadfast Love
German name: Der ewige Bund des Friedens und Gottes beständige Güte
Key terms: covenant, steadfast_love_chesed, peace
Review routing: Human theologian
Chesed (Güte/Treue) must be kept distinguishable from the baseline’s Critical Gnade (charis) term — German lacks one single clean equivalent for chesed, and using bare ‘Gnade’ risks conflating chesed’s covenant-loyalty sense with the merit-excluding, forensic sense central to the Romans justification doctrine that the core passage (53:11) also depends on; mandatory native-speaker review at each occurrence.
The Potter and the Clay: Divine Sovereignty in Election
German name: Der Töpfer und der Ton: Gottes Souveränität in der Erwählung
Key terms: clay_and_potter, election
Review routing: Human theologian
Direct source-image for Romans 9:20-21, already within this pipeline’s baseline scope as part of the Critical election_and_predestination doctrine cluster; theological risk is ensuring the sovereignty-of-God emphasis is not read as denying human moral responsibility, which the wider context of Isaiah’s repeated repentance-calls does not support.
Final Judgment and Universal Worship
German name: Das Endgericht und die universale Anbetung
Key terms: all_flesh_shall_worship, fire_not_quenched_undying_worm
Review routing: Human theologian
The book’s closing vision deliberately holds universal worship (v.23) and ongoing judgment (v.24) side by side without resolution; German teaching material must not force a premature harmonization of the two. 66:24’s imagery is the direct source of Jesus’ Gehenna language in Mark 9:48, already within this pipeline’s baseline scope.
Medium Risk Doctrines
The Woe Oracles as Prophetic Judgment Form
German name: Die Weherufe als prophetische Gerichtsform
Key terms: woe
Review routing: Native speaker review
‘Wehe’ is already fixed via the Matthew 23 baseline term; low lexical risk, but this recurring funeral-lament-turned-judgment-oracle genre should be taught as a deliberate structural feature spanning the whole book, not isolated one-off warnings.
True Worship Versus Empty Ritual
German name: Wahrer Gottesdienst statt leerer Ritualismus
Key terms: loose_the_bonds_of_injustice
Review routing: Native speaker review
Redefines fasting/worship as active social justice rather than ritual observance alone; low lexical risk, useful pastoral-ethical application text.
The Righteous King and the Outpoured Spirit
German name: Der gerechte König und der ausgegossene Geist
Key terms: holy_spirit, righteousness
Review routing: Native speaker review
Anticipates Pentecost-outpouring imagery; reuses established Heiliger Geist vocabulary with low collision risk in German.
The LORD as Judge, Lawgiver, and King
German name: Der HERR als Richter, Gesetzgeber und König
Key terms: lords_judge_lawgiver_king
Review routing: Native speaker review
A triple-office formula concentrating judicial/legislative/royal sovereignty in God alone; useful as a proto-Trinitarian threefold-office pattern in teaching material, but must not be over-read as fully developed Trinitarian doctrine.
Sheol and the Ambiguous Hope of the Afterlife
German name: Scheol und die noch unbestimmte Hoffnung auf ein Leben nach dem Tod
Key terms: sheol
Review routing: Native speaker review
German rendering must transliterate ‘Scheol’ rather than translate as ‘Hölle’ (Hell), which would wrongly import the later NT Gehenna/eternal-punishment category onto this shadowy OT term; flag for native-speaker review to prevent this common flattening.
God’s Faithfulness for His Own Name’s Sake
German name: Gottes Treue um seines eigenen Namens willen
Key terms: for_my_names_sake, grace
Review routing: Native speaker review
Grounds God’s patience in his own character rather than Israel’s merit, an OT echo of the grace-not-merit principle already Critical in the baseline; useful cross-reference, low lexical risk.
The Gracious Invitation and God’s Reliable Word
German name: Die gnädige Einladung und Gottes zuverlässiges Wort
Key terms: come_everyone_who_thirsts, prophecy
Review routing: Native speaker review
A universal, unqualified gospel-invitation (‘without money and without price’) anticipating the grace-not-merit doctrine already Critical in the baseline; low lexical risk.
