09 Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis — 1 Corinthians (English → Burmese)
Methodology
Per PRD Phase 1 Step 3, this analysis covers every Old Testament quotation and allusion, every messianic reference, and every typological connection found across the full text of 1 Corinthians (chapters 1–16), together with parallels to the baseline Romans Language Package curriculum already delivered in Burmese. Citations are normalized in the “Book Chapter:Verse” style (e.g., “Genesis 15:6”, “Isaiah 53:5”) for consistent machine and human cross-referencing. Where a quotation or theme is shared between 1 Corinthians and Romans, an explicit rendering-consistency rule is recorded so that Phase 2 translation produces identical Burmese wording for the shared source text and identical doctrinal framing for the shared theme.
Every chapter of 1 Corinthians is reviewed. Chapters with no formal OT quotation (4, 7, 12, 13) are explicitly noted as reviewed, with allusive/background material documented where present, per the full-book coverage mandate.
Risk tiers follow the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions and drive the same review routing (Critical/High → human theologian; Medium → native speaker; Low → automated).
Citation and Book-Name Conventions (extending the baseline)
The baseline 12_ai_translation_requirements.md establishes Myanmar Bible Society book-name conventions for Romans, Genesis, Psalms, Isaiah, Habakkuk, and Joel. This curriculum’s cross-references require the following additional established Myanmar Bible book names, which must be used exactly and consistently in all Phase 2 materials and citation footnotes:
| English Book | Burmese Book Name |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians | ၁ကောရိန္သု |
| Exodus | ထွက်ရာကျမ်း |
| Leviticus | ဝတ်ပြုရာကျမ်း |
| Numbers | ဂဏန်းကျမ်း |
| Deuteronomy | တရားဟောရာကျမ်း |
| Job | ယောဘကျမ်း |
| Jeremiah | ယေရမိကျမ်း |
| Hosea | ဟောရှေကျမ်း |
| Jonah | ယောနကျမ်း |
| Malachi | မာလခိကျမ်း |
| Daniel | ဒံယေလကျမ်း |
Verse numbering in the working segment cache remains Arabic numerals per baseline convention; published Myanmar output uses Myanmar numerals. Example normalized citation: “ရောမ ၁:၃-၄” (Romans 1:3-4); “၁ကောရိန္သု ၁၅:၃-၄” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
Part 1 — Cross-Reference Matrix by Chapter
Chapter 1 — Christian Unity versus Factionalism; The Cross as Wisdom and Power
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 1:19 | Cross as Wisdom and Power | (none — corporate “the wise”) | Quotation: Isaiah 29:14 (“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart”) | High. The verb “destroy” must retain full force; must not be softened into merely “surpass.” Sets up the ပညာတော် (God’s wisdom) vs. ပညာ (human/self-attained wisdom) contrast documented in 08_core_glossary.md. |
| 1 Corinthians 1:31 | Christian Unity (boasting redirected) | (none) | Quotation: Jeremiah 9:24 (“Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord”); cf. also 2 Corinthians 10:17 | Medium. ကြွားဝါခြင်း (boasting) must be rendered identically whenever this same Jeremiah quotation recurs; the point is exclusive redirection of boasting to God, not mere moderation of pride. |
Chapter 2 — The Cross as Wisdom and Power (continued)
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 2:9 | Cross as Wisdom and Power (hidden, now-revealed wisdom) | (none) | Composite allusion: Isaiah 64:4 and Isaiah 65:17 (“what no eye has seen… God has prepared for those who love him”) | Medium. Must be presented as a genuine, though partial, quotation-composite already treated as authoritative Scripture by Paul; do not render as a loose folk-proverb. |
| 1 Corinthians 2:16 | Cross as Wisdom and Power; the “mind of Christ” | (none) | Quotation: Isaiah 40:13 (“who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him?”) — SHARED with Romans 11:34, which quotes the same verse in the doxology closing Romans 9–11 | Critical rendering-consistency requirement. The Burmese rendering of Isaiah 40:13 in 1 Corinthians 2:16 must be verbatim identical to its rendering in the Romans curriculum (Romans 11:34). See Part 3 below for the specific rule and locked Burmese text. |
Chapter 3 — Christian Unity versus Factionalism (continued)
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 3:19 | Cross as Wisdom and Power | Job (as speaker/context of the quoted verse) | Quotation: Job 5:13 (“He catches the wise in their craftiness”) | Medium. Reinforces that worldly cleverness is no match for God; must retain the ironic “catches… in their craftiness” reversal. |
| 1 Corinthians 3:20 | Cross as Wisdom and Power | (none) | Quotation: Psalm 94:11 (“The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile”) | Medium. “Futile” (မှားယွင်းသော / အချည်းနှီးဖြစ်သော) must echo the μάτην (“in vain”) vocabulary already used in 15:2, keeping the futility-motif consistent within the letter. |
Chapter 4 — Apostolic Ministry (Christian Unity, continued)
Reviewed. No formal OT quotation occurs in this chapter. Background allusion: Paul’s language of stewards entrusted with “the mysteries of God” (4:1) draws on the general OT/Second Temple category of faithful household stewardship (cf. Genesis 39:4-6, Joseph as steward) but without a direct citation; no rendering-consistency rule is required.
Chapter 5 — Church Discipline and Holiness
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 5:7 | Church Discipline and Holiness; The Cross as fulfillment | Moses, Israel (Exodus generation) | Typology: Exodus 12:1-13, 21-23 (the Passover lamb whose blood secures deliverance from judgment) | Critical. “Christ our Passover has been sacrificed” (ခရစ်တော်ကား ငါတို့၏ပသခါသိုးဖြစ်၍ ယဇ်ပူဇော်ခြင်းကို ခံတော်မူပြီ) requires explicit teaching of the Exodus 12 background — without it, Burmese readers unfamiliar with the OT narrative will miss the substitutionary-sacrifice logic entirely. Reuses the baseline pattern already applied to “seed_of_david” (OT-background-dependent terms). |
| 1 Corinthians 5:13 | Church Discipline and Holiness | (none) | Quotation: Deuteronomy 17:7 (“Purge the evil person from among you”) | High. Must retain the congregational, corrective (not vindictive) force of communal discipline; consistent with the ecclesial κρίνω (judge/discipline) term documented in 08_core_glossary.md. |
Chapter 6 — Church Discipline and Holiness (continued); the body as temple
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 6:16 | Marriage and Singleness (foundational text); Church Discipline | Adam, Eve (implicitly) | Quotation: Genesis 2:24 (“the two shall become one flesh”) | High. Same Genesis verse underlies the Marriage and Singleness doctrine in chapter 7; render identically in both contexts within this curriculum for internal consistency. |
| 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 | Church Discipline and Holiness; body as temple | (none) | Typology: Exodus 25:8, Leviticus 26:11-12 (God’s promise to dwell among his people in the tabernacle/temple) | Critical. Extends the tabernacle-indwelling motif to the individual believer’s body; see ဗိမာန်တော် note in 07_semantic_analysis.md chapter 6 — must not be flattened into a merely decorative body-as-shrine metaphor. |
Chapter 7 — Marriage and Singleness
Reviewed. No formal OT quotation occurs. Background allusion: the entire chapter presupposes Genesis 2:18-24 (the creation ordinance of marriage) and echoes the general prophetic disapproval of divorce in Malachi 2:14-16, though neither is directly quoted. No new rendering-consistency rule beyond the Genesis 2:24 rule already noted under chapter 6.
Chapter 8 — Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 8:4, 8:6 | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat (monotheism as foundation) | (none) | Allusion: Deuteronomy 6:4 (the Shema, “the Lord is one”); cf. Deuteronomy 4:35, Isaiah 45:5 | Critical. The entire idol-meat argument depends on strict, uncompromised monotheism; the Burmese rendering must not permit any reading that idols possess even a lesser, real divine status — this directly undergirds the ရုပ်တု (idol) term’s Critical risk rating in 08_core_glossary.md. |
Chapter 9 — Apostolic Rights Surrendered for the Gospel
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 9:9 | Apostolic Ministry / Christian Liberty | Moses | Quotation: Deuteronomy 25:4 (“You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain”) | Medium. An agrarian image requiring a brief cultural gloss for readers unfamiliar with oxen-treading threshing; the theological point (laborers deserve support) must not be lost in translation of the rural detail. |
| 1 Corinthians 9:13 | Apostolic Ministry | Levitical priests | Typology/allusion: Numbers 18:8-24; Leviticus 6:16, 7:6 (priests receiving a portion of the offerings) | Medium. Establishes a priestly-support pattern as precedent for gospel-worker support; requires brief OT priesthood background. |
Chapter 10 — Christian Liberty and Idol Meat (continued); Israel’s wilderness warnings; The Lord’s Supper
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 10:1-4 | The Lord’s Supper; Christian Liberty; typology of Christ | Moses, Israel | Typology: Exodus 13:21-22 (the cloud), Exodus 14:21-22 (the sea crossing), Exodus 17:6 and Numbers 20:11 (water from the Rock) | Critical. “That Rock was Christ” (10:4) is a direct typological/pre-existence identification of Christ with the OT rock that accompanied Israel — a christological claim of the same weight as the baseline’s “son_of_god” and “lordship_of_christ” entries. Must be rendered so that Christ’s active, personal presence with Israel in the wilderness is unmistakable, not merely a poetic metaphor. |
| 1 Corinthians 10:7 | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat (warning) | Israel (golden calf generation) | Quotation: Exodus 32:6 (“the people sat down to eat and drink [and rose up to play]“) | High. Directly parallels the church’s own communal-meal context (idol feasts, and later the Lord’s Supper in ch.11); the connection between careless eating/drinking and idolatry must be preserved. |
| 1 Corinthians 10:8 | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat (warning) | Israel; Baal of Peor incident | Allusion: Numbers 25:1-9 (sexual immorality with Moabite women; 23,000 fell) | High. Links πορνεία (sexual immorality, ch.5-6) directly with idolatry; the numeric detail underlines real historical judgment, not a moralizing fable. |
| 1 Corinthians 10:9 | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat; pre-existence of Christ | Israel; the fiery serpents | Allusion: Numbers 21:5-6 (testing “the Lord” in the wilderness, judged by serpents) | Critical. Some manuscript traditions read “tested Christ” — regardless of textual variant chosen for the base translation, the theological point (Israel’s tested Lord = Christ, the same divine person) should be preserved in translator notes, consistent with the Rock typology of 10:4. |
| 1 Corinthians 10:10 | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat (warning) | Israel; Korah’s rebellion; “the destroyer” | Allusion: Numbers 16:41-49 (grumbling, plague, the destroying angel) | Medium. “The destroyer” (ဖျက်ဆီးသူ) must be understood as an agent of God’s own judgment, not an independent evil power acting apart from God’s sovereign permission. |
| 1 Corinthians 10:20 | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat; spiritual warfare | (none) | Allusion: Deuteronomy 32:17 (“they sacrificed to demons, not God”) | Critical. Directly underlies the နတ်ဆိုး (demon) term’s Critical risk rating in 08_core_glossary.md; the OT background confirms that pagan sacrifice, however religiously sincere, is in reality directed to hostile spiritual powers, not merely inert wood/stone. |
| 1 Corinthians 10:22 | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat | (none) | Allusion: Deuteronomy 32:21 (“provoke the Lord to jealousy”) — thematically shared with Romans 10:19, which directly quotes the same verse (“I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation”) | High rendering-consistency requirement. Although Romans 10:19 and 1 Corinthians 10:22 draw on the same Deuteronomy 32:21 source in different clauses of that verse, the key phrase “provoke to jealousy” (မနာလိုစိတ်ကို နှိုးဆွစေခြင်း / စိတ်တော်ကို လှုပ်ရှားစေခြင်း) must be rendered with the same vocabulary in both curricula so that a learner moving from Romans to 1 Corinthians recognizes the shared OT root. See Part 3. |
| 1 Corinthians 10:26 | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat | (none) | Quotation: Psalm 24:1 (“the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it”) | Medium. Grounds the liberty to eat marketplace food in God’s total ownership of creation — must retain the exuberant, unqualified scope (“everything in it”). |
Chapter 11 — Order in Worship; The Lord’s Supper
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 11:7 | Order in Worship (headship) | Adam, Eve | Allusion: Genesis 1:27 (mankind created in God’s image, male and female) | High. Must be held together with the full equality also affirmed later in the same passage (11:11-12) and with Genesis 1:27’s shared “image of God” dignity for both sexes. |
| 1 Corinthians 11:8-9 | Order in Worship (headship) | Adam, Eve | Allusion: Genesis 2:18-23 (woman formed from man, as a helper corresponding to him) | High. Relational order/origin, not differential worth — consistent with the κεφαλή (head/headship) note in 08_core_glossary.md. |
| 1 Corinthians 11:23-25 | The Lord’s Supper | Jesus (Last Supper night) | Direct historical parallel (NT-to-NT): Matthew 26:26-28, Mark 14:22-24, Luke 22:19-20 (the institution narratives); OT typology: Exodus 24:8 (covenant-sealing blood) | Critical. Paul’s account (received “from the Lord,” 11:23) must align terminologically with how the Gospel institution accounts are rendered elsewhere in the destination language’s existing Bible translation, especially “body… given for you” and “blood… covenant.” |
| 1 Corinthians 11:25 | The Lord’s Supper (new covenant) | (none) | Allusion: Jeremiah 31:31-34 (the promised new covenant) | Critical. ပဋိညာဉ်သစ် (new covenant) directly fulfills Jeremiah’s promise; TM reuse of ပဋိညာဉ် (covenant) from the Romans baseline is mandatory — see Part 3. |
Chapter 12 — Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
Reviewed. No formal OT quotation occurs in this chapter. The “one body, many members” image has no single OT citation source but functions as Paul’s own extended metaphor; it stands in strong thematic (not citational) continuity with Romans 12:4-5, documented in Part 3 below as a cross-curriculum parallel rather than an OT cross-reference.
Chapter 13 — Love as the Greater Way
Reviewed. No formal OT quotation occurs. Background allusion: the love-command tradition of Leviticus 19:18 (“love your neighbor as yourself”) stands behind the whole NT ἀγάπη ethic (cf. Matthew 22:39, Romans 13:9, which does directly quote Leviticus 19:18) but is not itself quoted within 1 Corinthians 13. No new OT rendering rule is required here; see Part 3 for the Romans 13:9/Leviticus 19:18 cross-curriculum note.
Chapter 14 — Order in Worship; Tongues and Prophecy
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 14:21 | Order in Worship (tongues as a sign) | Isaiah (as prophetic speaker) | Quotation: Isaiah 28:11-12 (“by people of strange tongues… I will speak to this people”) | High. The OT context is a judgment-sign to unbelieving Israel; Paul repurposes it to explain why uninterpreted tongues in worship are not primarily for believers. Must retain the sign-to-outsiders logic, not merely a general proof-text for tongues’ existence. |
Chapter 15 — The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
(Verses 1-11 are treated in exhaustive detail in 07_semantic_analysis.md; this section covers OT connections across the whole chapter, including the core passage.)
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 | Core passage; Resurrection of Christ; fulfillment of prophecy | Christ | Allusion/fulfillment: Isaiah 53:5-12 (the Suffering Servant “died for our sins”); Psalm 16:10 (“you will not abandon me to Sheol”); Hosea 6:2 (“on the third day he will raise us up”); typological sign: Jonah 1:17 / 2:1 (three days and three nights) | Critical — directly shared doctrinal territory with the Romans baseline’s messianic_promise, fulfillment_of_prophecy, and resurrection_of_christ doctrines (Romans 1:2-4). “According to the Scriptures” (ကျမ်းစာလာသည်နှင့်အညီ) must be taught with this specific cluster of OT texts named, not left as a vague generic gesture toward “the Bible somewhere.” |
| 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 | Resurrection of Christ and Believers; Adam-Christ typology | Adam, Christ | Allusion: Genesis 2:7, 3:17-19 (Adam’s creation and the death sentence following the Fall) — typologically identical territory to Romans 5:12-21 | Critical rendering-consistency requirement. “In Adam all die… in Christ all will be made alive” must use the exact same Burmese rendering of “Adam” (အာဒံ) and the same theological framing of Adam as covenant-head as established for Romans 5:12-21. See Part 3. |
| 1 Corinthians 15:25 | Resurrection of Christ; Lordship of Christ | Christ; David (as the Psalm’s original messianic voice) | Quotation: Psalm 110:1 (“he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet”) | Critical. A key messianic-enthronement Psalm (also foundational elsewhere in the NT, e.g. Matthew 22:44, Hebrews 1:13); must retain the “reign until” temporal structure — Christ’s present reign is real but not yet consummated. |
| 1 Corinthians 15:27 | Resurrection of Christ | Christ; humanity (Psalm 8’s original referent) | Quotation: Psalm 8:6 (“God has put everything under his feet”) | High. Applies a psalm about humanity’s dominion to Christ specifically as the last Adam — reinforces the Adam-Christ typology of 15:21-22, 45-49. |
| 1 Corinthians 15:32 | Resurrection of Christ (the argument’s stakes) | (none — quoted as a fatalistic slogan) | Quotation: Isaiah 22:13 (“Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die”) | Medium. Paul quotes this as the logical (and undesirable) conclusion IF there is no resurrection — must not be rendered as Paul’s own recommendation; the irony/rebuttal framing must be clear. |
| 1 Corinthians 15:45 | Resurrection of Christ; Adam-Christ typology | Adam, Christ | Quotation: Genesis 2:7 (“the first man Adam became a living being”) — typologically parallel to Romans 5:14, which names Adam “a type of the one who was to come” | Critical rendering-consistency requirement, identical concern to 15:21-22 above; “the last Adam” (နောက်ဆုံးအာဒံ) must be built on the same အာဒံ proper-name form used throughout, consistent with Romans. |
| 1 Corinthians 15:54 | Resurrection of Christ and Believers | (none) | Quotation: Isaiah 25:8 (“death is swallowed up in victory”) | High. Consistent with the baseline’s assurance_of_salvation doctrine (Romans 8:28-39); death’s defeat is total and final, not a temporary reprieve within an ongoing cycle. |
| 1 Corinthians 15:55 | Resurrection of Christ and Believers | (none) | Quotation: Hosea 13:14 (“O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?”) | High. The rhetorical taunt against death must retain its triumphant, mocking tone — death is a defeated enemy, not a natural cyclical stage to be accepted with equanimity. |
Chapter 16 — Closing Instructions
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| 1 Corinthians 16:1-4 | Christian Unity (practical); the collection | Paul; the Jerusalem saints | Direct historical/curriculum parallel: Romans 15:25-27 (Paul’s identical description of the same Jerusalem collection project) | High. This is the same historical event described in both letters; the terminology for “the collection” (အလှူငွေ စုဆောင်းခြင်း) and “the saints [at Jerusalem]” (သန့်ရှင်းသူများ) must match the Romans rendering exactly. See Part 3. |
| 1 Corinthians 16:22 | Resurrection hope; Second Coming | Christ | NT-forward connection: Revelation 22:20 (“Come, Lord Jesus”), the fullest later echo of this same eschatological cry; structural parallel to the preserved Aramaic “Abba” in Romans 8:15 | Medium-High. “Marana tha” (မာရနာသာ) should be transliterated and glossed exactly as the baseline treats “Abba” — retained in transliteration with an explicit gloss, not translated away, to preserve its ancient liturgical urgency. |
Part 2 — Messianic References and Typology Summary
| Type/Figure | 1 Corinthians Passage | OT Root | Fulfillment/Antitype | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|
| Passover Lamb | 1 Corinthians 5:7 | Exodus 12:1-13 | Christ, whose sacrificial death delivers from judgment | Critical — requires explicit Exodus 12 teaching; ပသခါ transliteration retained. |
| The Rock in the wilderness | 1 Corinthians 10:4 | Exodus 17:6; Numbers 20:11 | Christ, personally present with and sustaining Israel before his incarnation | Critical — direct pre-existence/deity claim; must not be flattened to poetic metaphor. |
| The tested LORD | 1 Corinthians 10:9 | Numbers 21:5-6 | Christ, identified with the OT LORD whom Israel tested | Critical — reinforces the Rock typology; consistent divine-identity claim. |
| First Adam / Last Adam | 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, 45-49 | Genesis 2:7; 3:17-19 | Christ as the life-giving “last Adam,” reversing the first Adam’s death sentence | Critical — must match Romans 5:12-21 Adam/Christ typology exactly. |
| Suffering Servant | 1 Corinthians 15:3 (via “died for our sins according to the Scriptures”) | Isaiah 53:5-12 | Christ’s substitutionary atoning death | Critical — same doctrine as Romans’ atonement-adjacent material; anchors the gospel content of the core passage. |
| The enthroned Son (Davidic-messianic Psalms) | 1 Corinthians 15:25, 27 | Psalm 110:1; Psalm 8:6 | Christ’s present reign and coming total victory | Critical — extends the baseline’s davidic_covenant and lordship_of_christ doctrines into the resurrection argument. |
| New Covenant mediator | 1 Corinthians 11:25 | Jeremiah 31:31-34 | Christ, whose blood inaugurates the promised new covenant | Critical — TM reuse of ပဋိညာဉ် mandatory. |
Part 3 — Parallels to Romans and Rendering-Consistency Rules
Because Burmese learners will move between the Romans and 1 Corinthians curricula, the following rules are mandatory for Phase 2 translation and must be loaded alongside translation_memory.json whenever a segment falls under one of these cross-references.
| # | Shared Element | Romans Location | 1 Corinthians Location | Rendering-Consistency Rule |
|---|
| 1 | Isaiah 40:13 quotation (“who has known the mind of the Lord”) | Romans 11:34 | 1 Corinthians 2:16 | Lock a single Burmese rendering of this verse at first translation and reuse it verbatim in both curricula. Recommended base: “အဘယ်သူသည် ထာဝရဘုရား၏စိတ်တော်ကို သိသနည်း” — do not introduce lexical variation between the two occurrences. |
| 2 | Deuteronomy 32:21 (“provoke to jealousy”) | Romans 10:19 | 1 Corinthians 10:22 | Use the same Burmese verb phrase for “provoke to jealousy” (e.g., မနာလိုစိတ်ကို နှိုးဆွသည်) in both locations, even though the surrounding clause differs. |
| 3 | Genesis 2:24 (“the two shall become one flesh”) | (Not directly quoted in Romans; thematically underlies Romans’ creation-order allusions in ch.1) | 1 Corinthians 6:16; 7 (background) | Render identically within 1 Corinthians itself (chs. 6 and 7); flag for consistency check if a future Genesis-focused curriculum quotes this verse. |
| 4 | Adam/Christ typology | Romans 5:12-21 | 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, 45-49 | The proper name “Adam” (အာဒံ), the concept of Adam as covenant/representative head, and the “one man… many” structural logic must match the Romans rendering exactly. This is the single most important cross-curriculum consistency rule in this analysis, given that both curricula independently teach the doctrine now unified under resurrection_of_christ/resurrection in the baseline. |
| 5 | ”Grace, not merit” argument structure | Romans 4:4-5; 11:5-6 | 1 Corinthians 15:10 | Both passages pivot on the identical doctrinal move (“not I, but the grace of God”/salvation “not of works”). Use identical vocabulary for ကျေးဇူးတော် (grace) contrasted with ကုသိုလ် (rejected merit term) in both curricula’s teaching notes. |
| 6 | Jerusalem collection | Romans 15:25-27 | 1 Corinthians 16:1-4 | Same historical referent; render “the collection,” “the saints at Jerusalem,” and “the Gentile churches’ gift” identically across both curricula. |
| 7 | Preserved Aramaic liturgical cry | Romans 8:15 (“Abba, Father” — အဗ္ဘ) | 1 Corinthians 16:22 (“Marana tha” — မာရနာသာ) | Apply the same translation policy: retain the transliteration, gloss its meaning in-line or in a translator note, and do not substitute a fully-translated Burmese equivalent that loses the term’s ancient, intimate/urgent liturgical character. |
| 8 | Resurrection doctrine core vocabulary | Romans 1:4; 4:25; 6:4-5; 8:11 | 1 Corinthians 15 (entire) | ထမြောက်ခြင်း (resurrection) and all its forbidden-substitution rules from the baseline (never ပဋိသန္ဓေတည်ခြင်း) apply identically; 1 Corinthians 15 extends the doctrine from Christ alone to all believers, requiring the additional Critical-risk term ဝိညာဉ်ခန္ဓာကိုယ် (spiritual body) documented in 08_core_glossary.md. |
| 9 | Body of Christ / one-body ecclesiology | Romans 12:4-5 | 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 | Both passages teach the same doctrine; render ခရစ်တော်၏ကိုယ်ခန္ဓာတော် (body of Christ) consistently, and ensure the Jew-Gentile unity emphasis already documented in the Romans baseline’s unity_of_jews_and_gentiles doctrine is carried forward into 1 Corinthians 12:13’s “Jews or Greeks… one body” clause. |
| 10 | Leviticus 19:18 love-command background | Romans 13:9 (direct quotation) | 1 Corinthians 13 (thematic background only, not quoted) | Where a future teaching note in either curriculum cites Leviticus 19:18, use the same Burmese rendering already fixed for Romans 13:9. |
| 11 | Lordship confession | Romans 10:9-10 | 1 Corinthians 12:3 (“no one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit”) | The confession “Jesus is Lord” must use the baseline’s locked rendering “ယေရှုသည် သခင်ဖြစ်တော်မူ၏” verbatim in both curricula, per the baseline’s Theological Consistency Rules Across Documents. |
| 12 | Providence / testing under a personal God | Romans 8:28 | 1 Corinthians 10:13 (“God is faithful… he will provide a way of escape”) | Both passages must be rendered to exclude any impersonal-karma reading; reuse ဘုရားသခင်၏ကြည့်ရှုစောင့်ရှောက်မှု (providence) framing language from the baseline where contextually appropriate, even though 10:13 does not use that exact baseline term. |
Full-Book Coverage Confirmation
All sixteen chapters of 1 Corinthians have been reviewed for OT quotations, allusions, typology, and Romans parallels. Chapters 4, 7, 12, and 13 contain no formal OT quotation and are explicitly noted above as reviewed, with relevant background allusions and cross-curriculum thematic parallels documented in place of citation-level entries. All identified shared quotations and shared doctrines with the Romans baseline carry mandatory rendering-consistency rules recorded in Part 3, to be enforced alongside translation_memory.json in Phase 2.
