Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — Philippians
Full-Book Doctrine Matrix, Chapter 1–4
Destination Language: Burmese (Myanmar)
Purpose and Method
This document executes PRD Phase 1 Step 4/5 doctrine analysis for the Philippians curriculum. It is doctrinally and terminologically CONSISTENT with doctrine_risk_registry.json (Philippians extension): the same 21 doctrines, the same risk tiers, and the same burmese_doctrine_name values are used throughout. This file adds the required full-book, chapter-by-chapter coverage view that the registry (organized by doctrine) does not itself provide, plus an explicit “translation risk” column describing the specific mistranslation failure mode for Phase 2 reviewers.
Philippians 2:1-11 (the kenosis hymn) is the theological anchor of the curriculum but not its scope boundary. Every chapter of Philippians is reviewed below in full, including sections that carry low or no independent doctrinal load, per the full-book coverage mandate.
Risk tiers, exactly as defined in the baseline and Philippians registries:
- Critical — Mistranslation destroys essential doctrine. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
- High — Significant theological confusion/syncretism risk. Mandatory human theologian review.
- Medium — Reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning. Native speaker review recommended.
- Low — Minor imprecision. Automated review sufficient.
Part A: Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrine Walkthrough
Chapter 1 (Philippians 1:1-30)
| Section | Doctrine(s) Active | Supporting Verses | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Salutation | Servanthood and Christian Calling; Church Leadership and Service | 1:1-2 | High / Medium | ဒေါလ (doulos) rendered ကျွန် must read as honored voluntary belonging, echoing Christ’s own 2:7 self-designation, not chattel/debt-bondage degradation; ἐπίσκοπος/διάκονος must not be rendered with monastic-sangha office vocabulary. | Human theologian (servanthood) / Native speaker (offices) |
| Thanksgiving and prayer | Partnership in the Gospel | 1:3-8 | High | κοινωνία εἰς τὸ εὐαγγέλιον (“partnership in the gospel”) must convey active, shared investment, not passive spectator goodwill; risk of collapsing into generic “fellowship” (မိတ်သဟာယ) without the active-partnership sense. | Human theologian |
| Prayer for discernment and fruit | Sanctification (baseline-adjacent); Christian Identity in Christ | 1:9-11 | High | ”Fruit of righteousness” must not read as accumulated merit-fruit (ကုသိုလ်အသီး); righteousness here is the baseline ဖြောင့်မတ်ခြင်း, received/produced, not earned. | Human theologian |
| Paul’s imprisonment advances the gospel | Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment; Partnership in the Gospel | 1:12-18 | High | Imprisonment (ချည်နှောင်ခြင်း) reframed as gospel-advancing privilege, not misfortune or karmic consequence; joy must not be softened to mere resignation. | Human theologian |
| To live is Christ, to die is gain | Christian Identity in Christ; Resurrection Hope of Believers (implicit) | 1:19-24 | High | ”To live is Christ” (အသက်ရှင်ခြင်းသည် ခရစ်တော်ဖြစ်၏) is total identity-collapse into Christ; must not soften into “Christ matters to me.” “To die is gain” must not be read through a karmic/rebirth-improvement lens. | Human theologian |
| Exhortation to steadfastness and citizenship-worthy conduct | Citizenship in Heaven; Unity and Humility in the Church | 1:27-30 | High | πολίτευμα/πολιτεύεσθε (“let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel” / citizenship language) must be rendered consistently with 3:20 — a present grace-based status, not a future merit-earned deva-realm destination. | Human theologian |
| Suffering as gift and shared struggle | Suffering as a Grace-Given Gift; Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment | 1:29-30 | High | ἐχαρίσθη (“it has been granted/graciously given”) paired with ဆင်းရဲဒုက္ခ (the dukkha term) is the chapter’s highest-risk phrase: suffering as grace-gift, not karmic consequence to be escaped through detachment. | Human theologian |
Chapter 1 coverage note: All verses reviewed. No verse in chapter 1 is doctrinally inert; even the salutation (1:1-2) and closing greeting formulas carry load-bearing terms (servant, saints, grace, peace) already governed by baseline and registry entries.
Chapter 2 (Philippians 2:1-30) — Core Passage Chapter
| Section | Doctrine(s) Active | Supporting Verses | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Appeal to unity, one mind, humility | Unity and Humility in the Church; Fellowship of the Spirit and Christian Affection | 2:1-4 | High / Medium | ”Same mind,” “one accord” must be Christ-shaped shared disposition, not mere conflict-avoidance social harmony; κοινωνία πνεύματος is the Spirit’s own active bond, not generic camaraderie; compassion vocabulary (ကရုဏာ-cognate) must be taught as flowing from union with Christ, not self-cultivated brahmavihara meditation. | Human theologian / Native speaker |
| Kenosis hymn: form of God, did not grasp equality, emptied himself, form of a servant | Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis); Deity of Christ | 2:5-7 | Critical | HIGHEST-RISK PASSAGE IN THE BOOK. ἐκένωσεν must never be built on သုည (thonya/śūnyatā) or အနတ္တ (anatta); μορφῇ θεοῦ must not read as mere image/likeness (ဆင်းတု-adjacent); ἴσα θεῷ must not be softened to elevated-created-being status. Approved rendering: မိမိကိုယ်ကို စွန့်လှတ်တော်မူခြင်း, always paired with a mandatory teaching note that Christ remained fully God. | Human theologian, every occurrence, no exception |
| Found in human form, humbled himself, obedient to death on a cross | Humanity of Christ; Incarnation and Kenosis (continued) | 2:7-8 | Critical / High | σχήματι εὑρεθεὶς must convey real, verifiable physical humanness, not illusory/spirit-manifested appearance; ταπεινοφροσύνη must be voluntary self-lowering from genuine standing, distinguished from enforced hierarchical deference; “death of a cross” retains slave’s-death shame connotation. | Human theologian |
| Therefore God highly exalted him; name above every name | Christ’s Exaltation; Deity of Christ | 2:9 | Critical / High | ὑπερύψωσεν is the Father’s sovereign vindicating gift to the eternal Son, not merit-earned elevation (contra ဘုန်းကံ, merit-power accruing to a monk/king). | Human theologian |
| Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess Jesus Christ is Lord | Lordship of Christ; Deity of Christ | 2:10-11 | Critical | Confession ယေရှုခရစ်သည် သခင်ဖြစ်တော်မူ၏ must be verbatim-consistent with the baseline Romans 10:9 pattern. Kneeling (ဒူးတုပ်ခြင်း) is a devotional gesture already directed toward Buddha images, monks, and elders in Burmese life; must be taught as owed exclusively to the exalted Lord, never extendable. | Human theologian, every occurrence |
| Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; God who works in you | Sanctification and Working Out Salvation | 2:12-13 | Critical | SECOND HIGHEST grace/works-collision risk in the book. κατεργάζεσθε τὴν σωτηρίαν must be taught as outworking of a salvation already secured (v.13, “God who works in you”), never its procurement by effort; direct risk of ကုသိုလ်ပြုခြင်း (merit-making) misreading. | Human theologian, every occurrence |
| Blameless, lights in the world, holding fast the word of life | Sanctification (baseline-adjacent) | 2:14-16 | Medium / Low | ”Blameless” is Spirit-produced integrity, not a merit-scale sinlessness score; “lights in the world” is a visible-witness metaphor with minimal risk. | Native speaker |
| Poured out as a libation / sacrificial service | Suffering as a Grace-Given Gift; Church Leadership and Service | 2:17-18 | High / Medium | σπένδομαι must be distinguished from merit-transfer or spirit-propitiation libation practice; λειτουργία must not imply a distinct priestly caste separate from ordinary believers. | Human theologian / Native speaker |
| Commendation of Timothy and Epaphroditus | Servanthood and Calling; Partnership in the Gospel | 2:19-30 | High | ”Fellow soldier,” “risked his life for the work of Christ” reinforce voluntary Christ-devoted service; low novel-term risk beyond terms already governed above. | Human theologian |
Chapter 2 coverage note: All verses reviewed. Philippians 2:1-11 is confirmed as the highest doctrinal-density passage in the entire curriculum, carrying four of the six Critical-risk doctrines in the registry (kenosis, deity of Christ, lordship of Christ, and — via 2:12-13 — sanctification/working-out-salvation). Verses 2:19-30 (personal commendations) are lower risk but not doctrinally inert; they model the servanthood and partnership doctrines in narrative form.
Chapter 3 (Philippians 3:1-21)
| Section | Doctrine(s) Active | Supporting Verses | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Warning against confidence in the flesh; Paul’s pedigree | Righteousness by Faith versus the Law | 3:1-6 | Critical | Establishes the credentials Paul will call “rubbish”; law-keeping/heritage credentials must not be presented as neutral background but as the very thing being renounced. | Human theologian |
| Rubbish/dung; righteousness from law vs. through faith | Righteousness by Faith versus the Law | 3:7-9 | Critical | Direct parallel to Romans 3-4. σκύβαλα’s crude rhetorical force (total worthlessness of self-righteous credentials) must not be softened — a deliberate rhetorical assault on ကုသိုလ်စုဆောင်းခြင်း (merit-accumulation), the central Burmese Buddhist lay practice. Twin righteousness clauses (ἐκ νόμου / διὰ πίστεως) must be rendered with exact baseline terms ဖြောင့်မတ်ခြင်း / ယုံကြည်ခြင်း. | Human theologian, every occurrence |
| Knowledge of Christ; sharing his sufferings; resurrection power | Knowledge of Christ Surpassing All; Resurrection Hope of Believers; Suffering as Grace-Given Gift | 3:8-11 | High / Critical | γνῶσις Χριστοῦ is relational, personal knowing of a self-revealing Person, not self-generated vipassanā insight-knowledge; “power of his resurrection” and “share his sufferings” must not import a karmic cause-effect logic. | Human theologian |
| Pressing on, laying hold, the prize, mature/perfect | Pressing on toward the Goal in Christ | 3:12-16 | High | τέλειος must never be rendered with ပါရမီ (pāramī, the ten perfections cultivated across countless lifetimes toward Buddhahood); Spirit-enabled maturity within one lifetime, pursuit (διώκω) as response to Christ’s prior “laying hold,” not unaided self-effort. | Human theologian |
| Citizenship in heaven; awaiting a Savior who transforms the body | Citizenship in Heaven; Resurrection Hope of Believers | 3:17-21 | High / Critical | πολίτευμα must match 1:27 rendering exactly; “transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body” must be real bodily transformation patterned on Christ’s own resurrection, never rebirth into samsara — never ပဋိသန္ဓေတည်ခြင်း. | Human theologian |
Chapter 3 coverage note: All verses reviewed. Chapter 3 contains the book’s second Critical-density cluster (righteousness by faith vs. law, resurrection hope), directly parallel to Romans 3-4 and Romans 6/8 material, and must be held to identical baseline forbidden-substitution discipline.
Chapter 4 (Philippians 4:1-23)
| Section | Doctrine(s) Active | Supporting Verses | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Appeal to unity between Euodia and Syntyche; rejoice always | Unity and Humility in the Church; Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment | 4:1-4 | High | ”Agree in the Lord” reinforces Christ-shaped unity doctrine already governed in 2:1-4; “rejoice in the Lord always” must not be conflated with meditative piti-rapture. | Human theologian |
| Anxiety, prayer, thanksgiving, peace of God | The Peace of God | 4:5-7 | Medium | εἰρήνη τοῦ θεοῦ is God’s own relational gift guarding heart and mind, distinguished from meditative stilling of mental defilements (ကိလေသာငြိမ်းခြင်း) pursued through vipassana. | Native speaker |
| Whatever is true, honorable, etc.; God of peace | The Peace of God (extended); general virtue exhortation | 4:8-9 | Medium / Low | Virtue-list terms are largely shared human-moral vocabulary with low collision risk; “God of peace” reinforces the personal-God frame already secured elsewhere. | Native speaker / Automated |
| Contentment learned in all circumstances; who strengthens me | Contentment in All Circumstances | 4:10-13 | High | αὐτάρκης must be sharply distinguished from ဥပက္ခာ (upekkhā, equanimity through desire-extinguishing); Paul’s contentment is relational and Christ-dependent (ἐνδυναμοῦντί με), a learned posture sustained by an external Person, not self-achieved desirelessness. | Human theologian |
| Giving and receiving; fragrant offering acceptable to God | Partnership in the Gospel | 4:14-18 | High | δόσις καὶ λῆψις is grace-based gospel partnership between believers flowing from an already-established relationship, not merit-generating ဒါန (dana) offered to a religious institution/holy person; “fragrant offering” is thanksgiving to a personal God, not a ritual merit-offering. | Human theologian |
| God will supply every need; doxology | Providence (baseline-adjacent); Deity of Christ (doxology) | 4:19-20 | High / Critical | ”My God will supply” must retain personal, purposive divine care, not impersonal ကံ (karmic cause-effect); doxology (“glory forever”) reuses baseline ဘုန်းတော်. | Human theologian |
| Final greetings; grace benediction | Church as God’s People (baseline); Grace (baseline) | 4:21-23 | Medium / Critical | Standard closing-greeting and grace-benediction vocabulary; baseline ကျေးဇူးတော် enforced exactly, no new translation risk beyond baseline discipline. | Native speaker |
Chapter 4 coverage note: All verses reviewed. 4:8-9 and 4:21-23 are noted explicitly as lower-risk, largely baseline-governed sections that introduce no new doctrine beyond what chapters 1-3 and the registry already cover; they are not silently omitted, but confirmed as reviewed with no new terminological risk.
Part B: Consolidated Full-Book Doctrine Matrix
This table restates all 21 doctrines from doctrine_risk_registry.json in full-book form, confirming risk-tier and review-routing consistency and adding a book-wide “translation risk” summary column.
| Doctrine | Risk | Primary Passages (Philippians) | Translation Risk Summary | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis) | Critical | 2:6-8 | Never build on သုည/အနတ္တ; Christ retains full deity while setting aside glory’s visible display. | Human theologian |
| Deity of Christ | Critical | 2:6, 2:9-11 | μορφῇ θεοῦ ≠ image/idol; ἴσα θεῷ ≠ derivative elevated being. | Human theologian |
| Lordship of Christ | Critical | 2:9-11, 2:19, 2:24, 3:8, 3:20, 4:5 | Confession must match Romans 10:9 pattern verbatim; bowing owed exclusively to Christ. | Human theologian |
| Sanctification and Working Out Salvation | Critical | 2:12-15 | κατεργάζεσθε ≠ earning salvation; outworking of grace already given. | Human theologian |
| Righteousness by Faith versus the Law | Critical | 3:2-9 | σκύβαλα’s force retained; twin righteousness clauses exact baseline terms. | Human theologian |
| Resurrection Hope of Believers | Critical | 3:10-11, 3:21 | Real bodily transformation, never rebirth/samsara language. | Human theologian |
| Humanity of Christ | High | 2:7-8 | Real, verifiable humanness, not illusory manifestation. | Human theologian |
| Christ’s Exaltation | High | 2:9 | Father’s sovereign gift, not merit-earned elevation. | Human theologian |

| Servanthood and Christian Calling | High | 1:1, 2:7 | Honored voluntary belonging, echoing Christ, not chattel bondage. | Human theologian |
| Knowledge of Christ Surpassing All | High | 3:8, 3:10 | Relational knowing of a Person, not self-generated vipassanā insight. | Human theologian |
| Pressing on toward the Goal in Christ | High | 3:12-14 | τέλειος ≠ pāramī; pursuit is response to Christ’s prior grasp, not self-effort. | Human theologian |

| Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment | High | 1:4, 1:7, 1:12-18, 1:29, 2:17-18, 4:4 | χαρά ≠ piti (meditative rapture); relational joy persisting through suffering. | Human theologian |
| Suffering as a Grace-Given Gift | High | 1:29-30, 2:17, 3:10 | Grace-given privilege of gospel partnership, not karmic consequence to escape. | Human theologian |
| Contentment in All Circumstances | High | 4:6, 4:11-13 | αὐτάρκης ≠ upekkhā; relational, Christ-dependent, not self-achieved desirelessness. | Human theologian |
| Partnership in the Gospel | High | 1:5, 1:7, 4:10-18 | δόσις καὶ λῆψις ≠ merit-generating dana; grace-relationship among believers. | Human theologian |

| Church Leadership and Service | Medium | 1:1, 2:17, 2:30 | Congregational offices, not monastic sangha ranks; no priestly caste. | Native speaker |
| Fellowship of the Spirit and Christian Affection | Medium | 2:1 | Spirit’s active bond, not social camaraderie; compassion flows from union with Christ. | Native speaker |
| The Peace of God | Medium | 4:7, 4:9 | God’s relational gift, distinguished from meditative stilling of defilements. | Native speaker |
Risk summary (matches doctrine_risk_registry.json exactly): Critical: 6 · High: 12 · Medium: 3 · Low: 0 · Total requiring theologian review: 18 · Total requiring native speaker review: 3 · Total automated-only: 0.

This document is doctrinally and terminologically consistent with doctrine_risk_registry.json and translation_memory.json. It must be loaded alongside 08_core_glossary.md and 12_ai_translation_requirements.md before Phase 2 translation of Philippians begins.
Critical Risk Doctrines
Deity of Christ
Burmese name: ခရစ်တော်၏ဘုရားဇာတိ
Key terms: form_of_god, equal_with_god, name_above_every_name
Review routing: Human theologian
μορφῇ θεοῦ must not be rendered with a term implying only an outward representation like a Buddha image (ဆင်းတု/ဘုရားပုံ), and ἴσα θεῷ must not be softened to a derivative, elevated-but-created being status akin to a Brahma-realm deity — the same collision the baseline flags for father and son_of_god.
The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)
Burmese name: ခရစ်တော် လူ့ဇာတိခံယူ၍ မိမိကိုယ်ကို စွန့်လှတ်တော်မူခြင်း
Key terms: kenosis, form_of_god, equal_with_god, a_thing_to_be_grasped, form_of_a_servant, found_in_human_form
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: ἐκένωσεν must never be rendered with any term built on သုည (thonya, emptiness/śūnyatā) or အနတ္တ (anatta, no-self), the two core Theravada metaphysical categories, or hearers will read Christ’s self-emptying as the dissolution of his divine essence/self rather than the voluntary setting-aside of the visible display of glory. The approved rendering စွန့်လှတ်တော်မူ (relinquish/set aside) must always be paired with an explicit teaching note that Christ remained fully God and did not lose his divine nature.
Lordship of Christ
Burmese name: ခရစ်တော်၏အရှင်သခင်ဇာတိ
Key terms: jesus_christ_is_lord, every_knee_shall_bow, highly_exalted, name_above_every_name, lord
Review routing: Human theologian
The confession ယေရှုခရစ်သည် သခင်ဖြစ်တော်မူ၏ must be verbatim-consistent with the baseline Romans 10:9 pattern. Kneeling (ဒူးတုပ်ခြင်း) is a familiar devotional gesture in Burmese religious life toward Buddha images, monks, and elders, so teaching must make explicit that this bowing is owed exclusively to the exalted Lord Jesus, not extendable to any other venerated figure or image.
Resurrection Hope of Believers
Burmese name: ယုံကြည်သူတို့၏ ထမြောက်ခြင်းမျှော်လင့်ချက်
Key terms: conformed_transformed_body, resurrection
Review routing: Human theologian
A real, historical, bodily transformation patterned on Christ’s own resurrection, never rebirth into a new existence within the cycle of samsara; never render with ပဋိသန္ဓေတည်ခြင်း, consistent with the baseline resurrection forbidden-substitution rule.
Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Burmese name: ပညတ်တရားမှမဟုတ်၊ ယုံကြည်ခြင်းအားဖြင့်ဖြစ်သော ဖြောင့်မတ်ခြင်း
Key terms: righteousness_by_faith_vs_law, rubbish, faith, righteousness, law
Review routing: Human theologian
Direct parallel to the Romans 3-4 grace/law contrast; σκύβαλα’s crude force (total worthlessness of self-righteous credentials) must not be softened, since it is a deliberate rhetorical assault on the very logic of merit-accumulation (ကုသိုလ်စုဆောင်းခြင်း) central to Burmese Buddhist lay practice.
Sanctification and Working Out Salvation
Burmese name: ကယ်တင်ခြင်းကို ဆောင်ရွက်ခြင်းနှင့် သန့်ရှင်းခြင်း
Key terms: work_out_salvation, blameless, fear_and_trembling, salvation
Review routing: Human theologian
κατεργάζεσθε τὴν ἑαυτῶν σωτηρίαν is the single highest works/grace-collision risk in Philippians; if rendered as achieving salvation by effort it will map directly onto ကုသိုလ်ပြုခြင်း (merit-making) logic. Must always be taught as the outworking of a salvation already secured by grace (2:13), never its procurement.
High Risk Doctrines
Christian Identity in Christ
Burmese name: ခရစ်တော်၌ ခရစ်ယာန်အဖြစ်တည်ရှိခြင်း
Key terms: to_live_is_christ, servants_of_christ
Review routing: Human theologian
τὸ ζῆν Χριστός asserts total identity-collapse into Christ, comparable in force to Romans 6’s ‘in Christ’ union language, and must not be softened into ‘Christ is important to my life.‘
Christ’s Exaltation
Burmese name: ခရစ်တော်ကို အထွဋ်အထိပ်တင် မြှင့်စားတော်မူခြင်း
Key terms: highly_exalted, name_above_every_name
Review routing: Human theologian
ὑπερύψωσεν is the Father’s sovereign gift and vindication of the eternal Son, not merit-earned elevation comparable to ဘုန်းကံ (merit-power accruing to a monk or king through accumulated religious performance).
Citizenship in Heaven
Burmese name: ကောင်းကင်ဘုံ၌ နိုင်ငံသားခြင်း
Key terms: citizenship_in_heaven
Review routing: Human theologian
πολίτευμα is a present relational and legal status already possessed by grace through union with Christ, not a future deva-realm rebirth destination (နတ်ပြည်) earned by accumulated merit; must be rendered consistently between 1:27 and 3:20.
Contentment in All Circumstances
Burmese name: အခြေအနေမျိုးစုံတွင် ရောင့်ရဲခြင်း
Key terms: contentment, who_strengthens_me, anxiety
Review routing: Human theologian
αὐτάρκης must be sharply distinguished from ဥပက္ခာ (upekkhā, equanimity) and the broader Buddhist ideal of extinguishing desire through disciplined detachment; Paul’s contentment is explicitly relational and Christ-dependent (ἐνδυναμοῦντί με), a learned posture sustained by an external Person, not a self-achieved inward state of desirelessness.
Humanity of Christ
Burmese name: ခရစ်တော်၏လူ့ဇာတိ
Key terms: found_in_human_form, form_of_a_servant
Review routing: Human theologian
σχήματι εὑρεθεὶς ὡς ἄνθρωπος must convey genuinely real, physically verifiable humanity, not an illusory or spirit-manifested appearance as found in some Burmese folk-narrative accounts of miraculous or spirit-manifested births.
Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment
Burmese name: ဆင်းရဲဒုက္ခနှင့် အကျဉ်းချခြင်းတွင် ဝမ်းမြောက်ခြင်း
Key terms: joy, bonds_imprisonment, suffer_for_christ
Review routing: Human theologian
χαρά must never be conflated with ပီတိ (piti), the meditative-rapture jhāna factor attained through concentration practice; this joy is relational (grounded in Christ and others) and persists through, not by escaping, suffering, which is more commonly read locally through a karmic-consequence lens.
Knowledge of Christ Surpassing All
Burmese name: ခရစ်တော်ကိုသိမှတ်ခြင်း၏ အထွဋ်အမြတ်ဖြစ်ခြင်း
Key terms: knowledge_of_christ, rubbish
Review routing: Human theologian
γνῶσις Χριστοῦ is relational, personal knowledge of a self-revealing Person, not self-generated vipassanā insight-knowledge (ဝိပဿနာဉာဏ်) attained through one’s own disciplined meditative introspection.
Partnership in the Gospel
Burmese name: သတင်းကောင်းတွင် မိတ်သဟာယဖြစ်ခြင်း
Key terms: partnership_in_gospel, giving_and_receiving, shared_in_affliction, fragrant_offering, gospel
Review routing: Human theologian
δόσις καὶ λῆψις describes gospel partnership flowing from an already-established grace relationship between fellow believers, not merit-generating ဒါန (dana) offered to a religious institution or holy person in exchange for spiritual benefit — the central merit-generating act of Burmese Buddhist lay religious life.
Pressing on toward the Goal in Christ
Burmese name: ခရစ်တော်၌ ရည်မှန်းချက်သို့ ရှေ့သို့ရှုလျက်ပြေးလွှားခြင်း
Key terms: press_on, the_prize, mature_perfect, goal_mark
Review routing: Human theologian
τέλειος must never be rendered with ပါရမီ (pāramī), the Buddhist doctrine of ten perfections cultivated across countless lifetimes toward Buddhahood; this is Spirit-enabled maturity pursued within a single lifetime, and the pursuit (διώκω) is a response to Christ’s prior ‘laying hold’ (v.12), not unaided self-effort toward self-attainment.
Servanthood and Christian Calling
Burmese name: ခရစ်တော်၏ကျွန်အဖြစ် ခေါ်တော်မူခြင်း
Key terms: servants_of_christ, form_of_a_servant
Review routing: Human theologian
δοῦλος must be taught as an honored, voluntary identity of total belonging to Christ, deliberately echoing Christ’s own servant-form in 2:7, not the degradation of imposed chattel or debt-bondage slavery historically practiced in the region.
Suffering as a Grace-Given Gift
Burmese name: ကျေးဇူးတော်အားဖြင့် ချီးမြှင့်သော ဆင်းရဲဒုက္ခ
Key terms: suffer_for_christ, poured_out_as_libation, fellowship_of_sufferings, grace
Review routing: Human theologian
πάσχειν ὑπὲρ Χριστοῦ pairs ဆင်းရဲဒုက္ခ (dukkha, the very term for the First Noble Truth’s ‘suffering’) with grace/gift language (ἐχαρίσθη); this suffering is a grace-given privilege of gospel partnership, not karmic consequence to be escaped through detachment, and Paul’s self-offering (σπένδομαι) is a willing gift to God completing an already-secured relationship, not merit-transfer libation or spirit-propitiation.
Unity and Humility in the Church
Burmese name: အသင်းတော်တွင် စည်းလုံးမှုနှင့် နှိမ့်ချမှု
Key terms: one_mind, have_this_mind, vain_conceit, selfish_ambition, humility, count_others_more_significant, united_in_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
ταπεινοφροσύνη/ἐταπείνωσεν must be taught as a voluntary self-lowering freely chosen by one with genuine standing (as Christ himself), not the enforced social submission expected of a junior toward an elder or a layperson toward a monk in Burmese hierarchical culture; genuine doctrinal unity must also be distinguished from mere social harmony maintained to avoid conflict.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Church Leadership and Service
Burmese name: အသင်းတော်ခေါင်းဆောင်မှုနှင့် အမှုတော်ဆောင်ခြင်း
Key terms: overseers, deacons, sacrificial_service
Review routing: Native speaker review
ἐπίσκοπος/διάκονος name recognized offices of local congregational service, not monastic sangha ranks (ဆရာတော် abbot authority); λειτουργία must not imply a distinct priestly caste separate from ordinary believers.
Fellowship of the Spirit and Christian Affection
Burmese name: ဝိညာဉ်တော်၏မိတ်သဟာယနှင့် ခရစ်ယာန်ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာ
Key terms: fellowship_of_the_spirit, comfort_in_christ, consolation_of_love, compassion
Review routing: Native speaker review
κοινωνία πνεύματος names the Holy Spirit’s own active bond uniting believers, not mere social camaraderie; compassion language (σπλάγχνα, οἰκτιρμοί) uses the cognate ကရုဏာ shared with Buddhist brahmavihara vocabulary, so teaching should clarify this compassion flows from union with Christ, not a self-cultivated meditative attitude.
The Peace of God
Burmese name: ဘုရားသခင်၏ငြိမ်သက်ခြင်း
Key terms: peace
Review routing: Native speaker review
εἰρήνη τοῦ θεοῦ is God’s own relational gift guarding the heart and mind, distinguished from the meditative stilling of mental defilements (ကိလေသာငြိမ်းခြင်း) pursued through one’s own vipassana practice.
