Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Cross-Reference Analysis

Deuteronomy — Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis (Hmong Language Package)

§0. Method and Citation Normalization

All citations in this document use the normalizable form Book Chapter:Verse (e.g., Deuteronomy 6:4, Genesis 15:6, Romans 10:6-8). Verse ranges within a single chapter use a hyphen (Deuteronomy 30:12-14); cross-chapter ranges are cited as two separate references joined by a semicolon (Deuteronomy 27:26; Deuteronomy 28:1), never a single cross-chapter range string, consistent with the citation convention already established in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md §7 for the Romans package (there rendered as Loos; the equivalent Hmong book-name convention for Deuteronomy — proposed Nqe Lus / Kevcai or a transliterated Ntawv Nteg Dua — is NOT fixed by this document and is flagged [TRANSLATOR REVIEW NEEDED: Hmong book-name convention for Deuteronomy] for resolution in the Phase 1 Step 4 requirements document).

Every Hmong rendering cited below reuses the exact strings fixed in assets/translation_memory.json (baseline), analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, and analysis/08_core_glossary.md (Deuteronomy candidates D1–D51). No new renderings are introduced in this document; only cross-reference relationships and consistency rules are established.

This document covers, per the task mandate: (1) every chapter of Deuteronomy, logging OT quotations/allusions and NT quotations/echoes found in or of that chapter; (2) messianic references and typology; (3) parallels to the Romans curriculum in this same language pipeline; (4) rendering-consistency rules for shared quotations.

Part A — Chapter-by-Chapter Cross-Reference Matrix

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Deuteronomy 1:8Covenant RenewalAbraham, Isaac, Jacob, MosesAlludes to Genesis 15:18-21, Genesis 17:8, Genesis 22:16-18 (patriarchal oath); echoed in Acts 7:5, Hebrews 11:9Medium. The patriarchal oath must render as baseline lus cog tseg (promise), kept lexically distinct from D14 kev cog lus (ntawm Yawmsaub) (covenant as comprehensive relationship) per the glossary’s D14 note — a promise is one pledge within the covenant, not the covenant itself.
Deuteronomy 1:17Warnings against Idolatry (justice integrity)Judges appointed by MosesDraws on Leviticus 19:15; echoed in Romans 2:11, James 2:1 (God’s own impartiality)Low. Exact reuse of baseline impartiality_of_god (tsis saib ntsej muag) — must render identically here and in any Romans-package citation of Romans 2:11.
Deuteronomy 1:28(background) fear vs. faithThe twelve spies, AnakimAlludes to Numbers 13:33; echoed in Hebrews 3:19 (unbelief barred entry)Low. Comprehension-level only.
Deuteronomy 2(background) God’s sovereignty over all nationsEsau/Edom, Lot/Moab-AmmonAlludes to Genesis 19:37-38, Genesis 36; thematic parallel Acts 17:26, Romans 9:1-5 (God’s sovereign allotment of peoples)Low. Historical-genealogical; no doctrinal collision.
Deuteronomy 3Covenant Renewal (leadership consequence)Moses, Og of BashanAlludes to Numbers 20:12, Numbers 27:12-14 (reason Moses is barred)Medium. Must not be conflated with the general unbelief-motif of Hebrews 3:16-19 without a note — Moses’ exclusion has a distinct, particular cause.
Deuteronomy 4:12,15Warnings against IdolatryMoses, Israel at HorebAlludes to Exodus 19:16-19; echoed/resolved in John 1:18, John 5:37, Colossians 1:15, Hebrews 1:1-3High. dab mlom (idol, baseline reuse) applies; recommend teaching note on the “no form seen at Horeb” → Incarnation trajectory (God unseen in Deuteronomy, God seen in the Son) as a positive, non-colliding messianic bridge.
Deuteronomy 4:24Warnings against IdolatryAlludes to Exodus 24:17; directly quoted in Hebrews 12:29 (“our God is a consuming fire”)High. D4 (Vajtswv uas khib heev...) must render consistently for future TM continuity into a Hebrews curriculum.
Deuteronomy 4:31Covenant RenewalParallels Leviticus 26:44-45Medium. Connects to baseline mercy (txoj kev khuv leej) — verify consistent use.
Deuteronomy 5:6-21Covenant Renewal; The LawMoses, all IsraelNear-verbatim parallel to Exodus 20:1-17; Deuteronomy 5:21 directly quoted in Romans 7:7; commandments cited in Romans 13:9, Matthew 19:18-19, Mark 10:19, Luke 18:20, James 2:11Critical. Txoj Kevcai (ntawm Vajtswv / Mauxes) qualifier mandatory throughout. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #1 below (Deut 5:21 / Romans 7:7).
Deuteronomy 5:16The LawParallels Exodus 20:12; quoted in Ephesians 6:2-3, Matthew 15:4, Matthew 19:19Medium. “hwm” (honor, D-adjacent) reused consistently.
Deuteronomy 5:15Remembering God’s RedemptionContrasts with Exodus 20:11’s creation-rest motive (intra-canonical variation worth teaching); echoed in Mark 2:27-28, Colossians 2:16-17Medium. D25 (Hnub Xanpateb) must retain redemption-memory clause.
Deuteronomy 6:4-5The Shema and Exclusive Love for GodMoses, IsraelTHE anchor text; directly quoted in Mark 12:29-30, Matthew 22:37, Luke 10:27; echoed in James 2:19, 1 Corinthians 8:4-6, Galatians 3:20, Ephesians 4:6, 1 Timothy 2:5Critical. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #2 below — the single richest cross-reference node in the book.
Deuteronomy 6:13,16The Shema; IdolatryMoses; Jesus (fulfillment)Directly quoted by Jesus in Matthew 4:7,10, Luke 4:8,12 (wilderness temptation, reversing Israel’s failure)High. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #3 below.
Deuteronomy 6:7Obedience Motivated by Love not MeritEchoed in Ephesians 6:4, 2 Timothy 3:15, Proverbs 22:6Low. D30 (qhia thiab qhia dua tsis tu ncua) — comprehension-level.
Deuteronomy 7:6-8Obedience Motivated by Love not Merit (election)Israel, the patriarchsDraws on Exodus 19:5-6; directly echoed in 1 Peter 2:9 (“chosen race… holy nation… own possession”), Titus 2:14; parallels Romans 9:4-5Critical. D27 (haiv neeg raug xaiv cia ua tug) must always carry the baseline’s mandatory volitional-choice clause; strongest OT anchor for the baseline’s anti-hmoov rule. Log 1 Peter 2:9 phrase for future TM continuity.
Deuteronomy 7:1-5,16Warnings against IdolatryCanaanite nationsDraws on Exodus 23:23-33, Exodus 34:11-16; fulfilled in Joshua 6-11Critical. cherem (D40) — bounded, historical; never a violence template.
Deuteronomy 8:3Remembering God’s Redemption; ObedienceMoses/Israel; Jesus (antitype)Directly quoted by Jesus, Matthew 4:4, Luke 4:4 — Christ as true Israel trusting God’s wordHigh. Key typological fulfillment; D20 (nco ntsoov) parallels Christ’s own scriptural reliance.
Deuteronomy 8:15Remembering God’s Redemption (typology)Moses/IsraelAlludes to Exodus 17:6, Numbers 20:11, Numbers 21:4-9 (bronze serpent); echoed in John 3:14-15, 1 Corinthians 10:4,9Medium-High. Connects forward to D12 “Pob Zeb” (ch.32) — ensure consistency between this implicit rock-allusion and the explicit later title.
Deuteronomy 9:4-6Obedience Motivated by Love not MeritIsraelDirectly parallels Titus 3:5, Ephesians 2:8-9; thematic parallel Romans 9:11-12, Romans 11:6Critical. Excellent OT counterpart to Romans’ sola gratia argument; teach alongside Romans 4:4-5, Romans 11:6 — but do NOT retroactively insert txiaj ntsim/charis vocabulary into the OT text itself; keep the doctrinal parallel in the teaching note only.
Deuteronomy 9:9-21Warnings against IdolatryAaron, IsraelDraws on Exodus 32; retold in Acts 7:39-41; echoed in 1 Corinthians 10:7High. dab mlom applies.
Deuteronomy 10:16-17Obedience Motivated by Love not MeritParallels Jeremiah 4:4, Jeremiah 9:25-26; fulfilled in Romans 2:28-29, Colossians 2:11, Philippians 3:3High. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #4 below (heart-circumcision Spirit-agency caution).
Deuteronomy 10:18-19Remembering God’s Redemption (ethics)Parallels Exodus 22:21, Leviticus 19:34; echoed Matthew 25:35, Hebrews 13:2Low.
Deuteronomy 11:26-29Blessings and Curses of the CovenantMoses, IsraelParallels Leviticus 26; fulfilled ceremonially Joshua 8:33-34; echoed Galatians 3:10Critical. First formal introduction; cross-reference chs. 27-28.
Deuteronomy 12:2-3Warnings against IdolatryHistorically enacted/violated 2 Kings 23; echoed 1 Corinthians 10:20-21High. D38 (thaj chaw teev dab).
Deuteronomy 12:5-14Warnings against Idolatry; WorshipFulfilled typologically 1 Kings 8; transformed in John 4:21-24 (worship “in spirit and truth”)Medium-High. Teach the single-sanctuary → Christ-as-true-meeting-place → Spirit-and-truth trajectory without implying the OT command was mistaken.
Deuteronomy 12:23Warnings against Idolatry (sacrifice)Draws on Leviticus 17:11; retained Acts 15:20,29; echoed Hebrews 9:22Medium. D39 (khoom xyeem rau Yawmsaub).
Deuteronomy 13:1-5The Coming Prophet like Moses (negative counterpart); IdolatryFalse prophetsEchoed Matthew 7:15-23, Matthew 24:24, 1 John 4:1, 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10High. D33/D34.
Deuteronomy 14(background — dietary law)Parallels Leviticus 11; typologically resolved Acts 10:9-16, Mark 7:19; directly engaged in Romans 14:14,20Medium. Notable cross-curriculum bridge: this chapter is the OT background Paul directly engages in Romans 14’s “disputable matters” (already a Romans doctrine, Christian Living and Unity in the Church). Reviewed — no new Critical/High Deuteronomy vocabulary, but recommend a cross-curriculum teaching note linking Deuteronomy 14 to Romans 14.
Deuteronomy 15:1-11Remembering God’s RedemptionParallels Leviticus 25 (Jubilee); echoed Luke 4:18-19, 2 Corinthians 8-9Low-Medium. D26.
Deuteronomy 15:12-18Remembering God’s RedemptionParallels Exodus 21:2-11; violated Jeremiah 34:14; ethical parallel Philemon, Galatians 3:28Medium. Important cross-curriculum caution: this is literal chattel/debt slavery being regulated and released as an act of mercy — the Hmong word “qhev” here has a concretely different connotative load than the Romans package’s positive, voluntary-bondservice metaphor (servant_slave_doulos, baseline High risk). Teaching must distinguish “Deuteronomy regulates and limits real slavery, commanding release” from “Romans repurposes the same word to describe total, honored devotion to a good Master.”
Deuteronomy 16:1-8Remembering God’s Redemption (Passover)Moses; Christ (antitype, the Lamb)Parallels Exodus 12-13; fulfilled 1 Corinthians 5:7, John 19:36, 1 Peter 1:19Critical. D23 (Kevcai Hla Dhau) — anchor firmly to the historical Exodus deliverance AND note forward fulfillment in Christ without collapsing historical particularity.
Deuteronomy 16:9-12Remembering God’s RedemptionParallels Leviticus 23:15-21; fulfilled Acts 2:1 (Pentecost, Spirit outpouring)Medium-High. Valuable typological bridge: grain-harvest firstfruits → Spirit-firstfruits (cf. baseline firstfruits, already flagging Romans 8:23).
Deuteronomy 16:13-15Remembering God’s RedemptionParallels Leviticus 23:33-43; echoed John 7:2,37-38, Zechariah 14:16, Revelation 21:3Medium.
Deuteronomy 17:14-20(background) King under the LawFuture kings; contrast to SolomonFulfilled/violated 1 Samuel 8, 1 Kings 11; contrasted with Revelation 19:16Medium. Background to Coming Prophet doctrine — a law-bound human king contrasted with the greater Prophet/King.
Deuteronomy 17:6, 19:15(background) JusticeQuoted/echoed Matthew 18:16, John 8:17-18, 2 Corinthians 13:1, 1 Timothy 5:19, Hebrews 10:28Low. Baseline witness (tus timkhawv) reuse.
Deuteronomy 18:10-12Warnings against IdolatryIsrael; forbidden mediums/divinersParallels Leviticus 19:31, Leviticus 20:6,27; violated 1 Samuel 28; echoed Acts 16:16-18, Galatians 5:20High. Direct collision with Hmong shamanic divination (ua neeb) practice at the level of practice, not merely image-worship. Recommend logging a NEW glossary candidate term for divination/necromancy in a future TM-revision cycle — not yet separately flagged in 08_core_glossary.md.
Deuteronomy 18:15,18-19The Coming Prophet like MosesMoses (type); Jesus Christ (fulfillment)Directly quoted Acts 3:22-23, Acts 7:37; echoed John 1:21,45, John 5:46, Matthew 17:5 (“listen to him” — direct verbal echo), Hebrews 1:1-2, Hebrews 3:1-6Critical. THE messianic anchor-doctrine of the curriculum. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #5 below.
Deuteronomy 19:1-13(background) refuge/justice typologyParallels Numbers 35:9-34; fulfilled Joshua 20; echoed Hebrews 6:18 (“fled for refuge”)Medium. D51 (lub nroog cawm siav) non-theological “cawm” sense must stay disambiguated even as Hebrews 6:18 reuses refuge-imagery typologically for gospel hope.
Deuteronomy 19:21(background) Law’s justice ethicParallels Exodus 21:23-25, Leviticus 24:19-20; contrasted Matthew 5:38-39Medium. Jesus reframes personal-retaliation ethics, not judicial proportionality — avoid implying the OT principle was wrong.
Deuteronomy 20(background) bounded holy warThematic echo Judges 7Medium. Cross-reference ch.7 cherem note.
Deuteronomy 21:22-23Blessings and Curses of the Covenant (messianic fulfillment)Jesus Christ (fulfillment/antitype)Enacted Joshua 8:29, Joshua 10:26-27; directly quoted Galatians 3:13; echoed Acts 5:30, Acts 10:39, 1 Peter 2:24Critical. THE decisive messianic fulfillment of the curse-doctrine. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #6 below.
Deuteronomy 21:15-17(background) election-pattern echoJacob, Esau, JosephParallels Genesis 25:23,27, Genesis 48-49; echoed Hebrews 12:16Medium. Secondary echo of Election doctrine (cf. Romans 9:10-13).
Deuteronomy 22(background)Distant echo Matthew 10:29, Luke 12:6Low. No new Critical/High vocabulary; reviewed.
Deuteronomy 23:1-8(background) covenant boundary/inclusionEunuchs, foreignersReversed eschatologically Isaiah 56:3-8; fulfilled Acts 8:26-39; echoed Ephesians 2:11-19Medium-High. Good bridge to Romans’ Gentile-inclusion material (Romans 9-11); recommend an exclusion-under-Law → inclusion-in-Christ teaching note.
Deuteronomy 23:19-20(background) economic ethicsParallels Leviticus 25:35-37; echoed Ezekiel 18:8,13, Luke 6:34-35Low.
Deuteronomy 24:1-4(background) divorce lawMoses; Jesus (reinterpreter)Reframed by Jesus in Matthew 5:31-32, Matthew 19:3-9, Mark 10:2-12; used metaphorically Jeremiah 3:1,8Medium. Background for a future Gospels curriculum.
Deuteronomy 24:14-15,17-22Remembering God’s RedemptionParallels Exodus 22:21-27, Leviticus 19:9-10; echoed James 1:27, James 5:4Low-Medium.
Deuteronomy 25:4(background)Directly quoted 1 Corinthians 9:9, 1 Timothy 5:18Medium. Literal agricultural law applied by “how much more” analogy in NT; log for TM continuity toward a future 1 Corinthians/1 Timothy curriculum.
Deuteronomy 25:5-10(background) heir/inheritance; messianic genealogyTamar, Judah; Ruth, BoazPrecedent Genesis 38; fulfilled positively Ruth 4; cited Matthew 22:24-28, Mark 12:19-23, Luke 20:28-33Medium. Positive messianic-genealogical thread (Ruth in Matthew 1:5).
Deuteronomy 25:17-19Remembering (negative form)AmalekSource Exodus 17:8-16; enacted 1 Samuel 15; echoed narratively EstherLow-Medium.
Deuteronomy 26:5-10Remembering God’s RedemptionFormal-genre parallel Joshua 24:2-13; NT creedal-recital parallel 1 Corinthians 15:3-7Medium. D24 (thawj phaus qoob loo), baseline reuse.
Deuteronomy 27:2-8Covenant RenewalFulfilled Joshua 8:30-32, Joshua 24:26Medium.
Deuteronomy 27:15-26Blessings and Curses of the CovenantDeuteronomy 27:26 directly quoted Galatians 3:10Critical. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #7 below.
Deuteronomy 28:1-14Blessings and Curses of the CovenantThematic echo 1 Peter 2:9, Romans 8:37 (distant, non-quotational)Critical. Explicit anti-prosperity-gospel note required — extend the baseline’s own forbidden-pattern discipline (12_ai_translation_requirements.md §3, prosperity-gospel drift already forbidden for the Romans package) to this chapter without exception.
Deuteronomy 28:49-68Blessings and Curses of the Covenant; Future of IsraelFulfilled 2 Kings 17, 2 Kings 25; parallels Leviticus 26:33; echoed Luke 21:24; directly connected in concept to Romans 11:25 (“fullness of the Gentiles”)Critical. Crucial direct link between Deuteronomy’s curse-doctrine and Romans 11’s Future-of-Israel doctrine (shared doctrine title across curricula). lwm Haiv Neeg (baseline nations_gentiles) must render identically at this theological junction in both books.
Deuteronomy 29:4Election and the Sovereignty of God (hardening)Combined by Paul with Isaiah 29:10 and directly quoted in Romans 11:8; source-parallel Isaiah 6:9-10 (also quoted Matthew 13:14-15, John 12:40, Acts 28:26-27)Critical. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #8 below — upgrades the glossary’s D45 “thematic parallel” note to a direct quotation dependency.
Deuteronomy 29:29(background)Thematic parallel Romans 11:33-36, 1 Corinthians 2:7-10, Matthew 11:25-27Low-Medium. D17.
Deuteronomy 30:1-5Covenant Renewal; Choosing Life over DeathSuccessor text Jeremiah 29:10-14, Jeremiah 31:31-34; Ezekiel 36:24-28, Ezekiel 37:1-14; echoed Acts 3:19-21High. Recommend explicit forward-link to Jeremiah’s New Covenant and its NT fulfillment (Luke 22:20, 1 Corinthians 11:25, Hebrews 8:8-12). Establishes Deuteronomy as seedbed of New Covenant theology.
Deuteronomy 30:6Obedience Motivated by Love not MeritParallels Jeremiah 31:33, Ezekiel 36:26-27; fulfilled Romans 2:29, Romans 5:5, 2 Corinthians 3:3,6Critical. Doctrinal high point of the whole book for this theme. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #4.
Deuteronomy 30:11-14Choosing Life over Death; Obedience Motivated by Love not MeritDirectly quoted, Christologically re-read, in Romans 10:6-8Critical — highest-priority finding in this analysis. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #9 below.
Deuteronomy 30:15,19Choosing Life over DeathParallels Joshua 24:15, Jeremiah 21:8; echoed Matthew 7:13-14, John 3:16, Galatians 6:7-8Medium. Keep D35 (txoj sia) distinct from baseline eternal_life; note Galatians 6:8’s flesh/Spirit-death/life polarity as a structural NT echo.
Deuteronomy 31:6,8Covenant Renewal (succession); typologyMoses, Joshua; Jesus (fulfillment of abiding presence)Repeated Joshua 1:5-9; directly quoted Hebrews 13:5; echoed Matthew 28:20Medium-High. Log despite ch.31 having “no new vocabulary” per the glossary — this is an intertextual connection, not a new term, and belongs here regardless.
Deuteronomy 31:10-13Remembering/transmissionContinued Nehemiah 8:1-8; echoed 2 Timothy 4:2, Acts 15:21Low.
Deuteronomy 32:4,15,18,30-31The Shema and Exclusive Love for God (typology)Parallels 2 Samuel 22:3,32,47 / Psalm 18:2,31,46; directly identified with Christ in 1 Corinthians 10:4; echoed 1 Peter 2:6-8Medium. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #10 below.
Deuteronomy 32:21Future of Israel / ElectionDirectly quoted in Romans 10:19Critical. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #11 below.
Deuteronomy 32:35-36(background, divine justice)Directly quoted in Romans 12:19, Hebrews 10:30High. See Rendering-Consistency Rule #12 below.
Deuteronomy 32:39The Shema and Exclusive Love for GodParallels 1 Samuel 2:6, Isaiah 45:5-7; echoed Revelation 1:8,17-18Medium.
Deuteronomy 32:43 (LXX)Future of Israel / Gentile inclusionDirectly quoted in Romans 15:10High — see Rendering-Consistency Rule #13 below; LXX/MT textual variant flagged for translator review.
Deuteronomy 33Blessings and Curses (positive form); election/heirTwelve tribesStructural precedent Genesis 49; eschatological echo Revelation 7:4-8Low-Medium. Comprehension-level, genealogical specificity.
Deuteronomy 34:9The Coming Prophet like Moses (typology)Joshua (Heb. Yehoshua, “YHWH is salvation”)Source Numbers 27:18-23; structural NT parallel Acts 6:6, 1 Timothy 4:14High (positive typology). Joshua’s name shares its root with “Yeshua/Jesus” — a doctrinally safe, non-colliding messianic teaching bridge, distinct from the culturally-loaded “Yaj Saub” (D32) used elsewhere. Recommend as supplementary teaching resource.
Deuteronomy 34:10The Coming Prophet like Moses (closing bracket)Moses; Jesus Christ (fulfillment)Source Exodus 33:11,20, Numbers 12:6-8; fulfilled/contrasted John 1:14,18, Hebrews 3:1-6Critical. Literary/theological setup for the doctrine’s NT resolution; teach in tandem with Deuteronomy 18:15-19.

Part B — Messianic References and Typology Summary

Type/FigureDeuteronomy ReferenceFulfillment/NT ReferenceNotes
The Prophet like MosesDeuteronomy 18:15-19, Deuteronomy 34:10Acts 3:22-23, Acts 7:37, John 1:21,45, Matthew 17:5, Hebrews 3:1-6Central messianic doctrine of this curriculum; culturally double-edged via “Yaj Saub” (D32).
The Curse-BearerDeuteronomy 21:22-23Galatians 3:13, Acts 5:30, 1 Peter 2:24Decisive resolution of the covenant-curse doctrine.
The RockDeuteronomy 32:4,15,18,30-311 Corinthians 10:4, 1 Peter 2:6-8Must stay disambiguated from baseline stumbling_block “pob zeb.”
The True Israel (obedient Son)Deuteronomy 6:13,16, Deuteronomy 8:3Matthew 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13Christ succeeds in the wilderness testing where Israel failed.
Joshua as forerunner-typeDeuteronomy 31:6-8, Deuteronomy 34:9Name-typology only (Yehoshua/Yeshua); Hebrews 4:8-11 (greater rest)Safe, positive, comprehension-building bridge.
The Word made nearDeuteronomy 30:11-14Romans 10:6-8Highest-value direct textual link to the Romans curriculum; see Rule #9.
The New-Covenant heartDeuteronomy 30:6, Deuteronomy 10:16Jeremiah 31:33, Ezekiel 36:26-27, Romans 2:29, 2 Corinthians 3:3,6Obedience-from-transformed-heart doctrine; Spirit-agency caution applies (Rule #4).
The Lamb / PassoverDeuteronomy 16:1-81 Corinthians 5:7, John 19:36Must not collapse OT historical particularity into premature NT fulfillment language in the base translation.

Part C — Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared/Quoted Texts

The following rules govern every occurrence of a Deuteronomy passage that is directly quoted (not merely echoed) by the New Testament, with special attention to passages quoted in Romans, since Romans is the sibling curriculum sharing this Hmong Translation Memory.

#Deuteronomy SourceNT Quotation(s)Shared/Required Hmong Term(s)Consistency RuleRisk
1Deuteronomy 5:21Romans 7:7Txoj Kevcai (ntawm Vajtswv / Mauxes); command form for “covet”The Decalogue’s “you shall not covet” clause must use identical phrasing in both the Deuteronomy base text and any Romans-package citation of Romans 7:7.Critical
2Deuteronomy 6:4-5Mark 12:29-30, Matthew 22:37, Luke 10:27, James 2:19tib leeg (xwb) (D6); kev hlub (D7, TM love); lub siab (D8)The exclusivity clause “tib leeg xwb, tsis muaj lwm tus Vajtswv” and the love-triad formula must appear unmodified whenever a future Gospels curriculum renders the Great Commandment; this is the book’s single highest-stakes term and must never be weakened at the point of NT quotation.Critical
3Deuteronomy 6:13,16, Deuteronomy 8:3Matthew 4:4,7,10, Luke 4:4,8,12hwm thiab ntshai Yawmsaub (D11); baseline pehawm (+object, D47)The fear/worship/serve compound must render consistently between Deuteronomy’s command form and the Gospels’ narration of Jesus quoting it — “pehawm” must always carry its object, matching the baseline’s mandatory qualifier rule.High
4Deuteronomy 10:16, Deuteronomy 30:6Romans 2:29, 2 Corinthians 3:3,6kev txiav siab rau Yawmsaub (D28); Yawmsaub yuav txiav koj lub siab (D29)Do NOT insert Vaj Ntsuj Plig into the Deuteronomy base text at 10:16 (human-responsibility command) or 30:6 (divine-promise form, which does not name the Spirit); reserve explicit Spirit-agency language for teaching notes only, cross-referencing Romans 2:29’s “by the Spirit” as the NT’s fuller disclosure.High
5Deuteronomy 18:15,18-19Acts 3:22-23, Acts 7:37tus yaj saub (D32); tus yaj saub cuav (D33, negative form only)Every occurrence of “tus yaj saub” in a NT-quotation teaching context (this book or any future Acts/Gospels curriculum) must carry the mandatory Hmong-messianic-folklore disambiguation note without exception, per the glossary’s existing D32 requirement.Critical
6Deuteronomy 21:22-23Galatians 3:13, Acts 5:30, Acts 10:39, 1 Peter 2:24raug foom tsis zoo ntawm Vajtswv (D42); kev raug foom / lus foom tsis zoo (D19)Paul’s entire atonement argument in Galatians 3:13 depends on quoting this exact clause; the curse-terminology must be rendered with absolute consistency across Deuteronomy 21:22-23, Deuteronomy 27:26, and Deuteronomy 28’s curse material, and logged now for a future Galatians curriculum’s TM-revision.Critical
7Deuteronomy 27:26Galatians 3:10raug foom / D19 curse terms; Txoj Kevcai (ntawm Vajtswv / Mauxes)This is the third of three major NT-quoted curse-texts (21:23; 27:26; 28’s framework); all three plus the future Galatians citation must use unified terminology.Critical
8Deuteronomy 29:4Romans 11:8 (combined with Isaiah 29:10)lub siab tawv (baseline hardening, D45)Because Paul directly quotes/combines this verse, the glossary’s existing D45 teaching note (distinguishing Deuteronomy 9’s historical stubbornness from Romans 11’s hardening) must be upgraded from “thematic parallel” to “direct quotation dependency” — the Hmong phrase must render identically in both contexts, not merely analogously.Critical
9Deuteronomy 30:11-14Romans 10:6-8”word” (davar/rhema); “mouth”; “lub siab” (heart)Highest-priority finding of this analysis. Paul directly quotes the LXX wording of this passage and Christologically re-reads it (replacing “the commandment” with “Christ” in his argument). The Hmong phrase used for “the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart” in Deuteronomy 30:14 must be usable without modification (or only minimally, clearly-marked Christological expansion) in a rendering of Romans 10:8. If the Deuteronomy package’s wording for “word,” “mouth,” and “lub siab” diverges from what a Romans-curriculum revision would independently produce for Romans 10:8, the intertextual link Paul intends becomes invisible to Hmong readers. Recommend a formal TM-revision proposal now, flagged for human theologian review, even though the Romans package is already baseline v1.0.Critical
10Deuteronomy 32:41 Corinthians 10:4Pob Zeb (D12, divine title)Must never be confused with the baseline’s stumbling_block “pob zeb ua rau dawm ceg” (opposite valence) even where a single NT passage (e.g., 1 Peter 2:6-8) uses rock-imagery in both positive and negative senses for different audiences.Medium
11Deuteronomy 32:21Romans 10:19tej uas tsis yog Vajtswv tiag (D13, no-gods); baseline lwm Haiv Neeg (nations/Gentiles)Both terms must render identically across the Deuteronomy base text and any Romans-package citation of Romans 10:19, since Paul directly quotes this verse to argue for Gentile inclusion provoking Israel to jealousy.Critical
12Deuteronomy 32:35-36Romans 12:19, Hebrews 10:30Baseline wrath_of_god (kev npau taws ntawm Vajtswv)Paul quotes this OT source-text for the very wrath-of-God doctrine already fixed as High-risk in the baseline; the phrase must match exactly.High
13Deuteronomy 32:43 (LXX)Romans 15:10Baseline nations_gentiles (lwm Haiv Neeg)The LXX and Masoretic Hebrew forms of this verse differ meaningfully; if the Deuteronomy base rendering follows the Hebrew Vorlage (as expected for an OT translation), the Romans 15:10 quotation may look textually unrelated to Hmong readers. [TRANSLATOR REVIEW NEEDED: LXX/MT variant at Deuteronomy 32:43] — flag for whoever finalizes this verse’s exact wording so the intertextual link with Romans 15:10 remains visible.High

Part D — Explicit Parallels to the Romans Curriculum (Doctrine-Level)

Deuteronomy DoctrineRomans Doctrine(s) EngagedNature of Connection
The Shema and Exclusive Love for God(implicit throughout); Romans 3:29-30Paul’s “one God” who justifies both circumcised and uncircumcised by the same faith directly presupposes the Shema’s exclusivity; also grounds baseline impartiality_of_god.
Covenant RenewalElection and the Sovereignty of God; The Future of IsraelRomans 9:4 lists “the covenants” as Israel’s privilege; Romans 11:27 quotes covenant-renewal language from Isaiah, itself downstream of Deuteronomic covenant theology.
Blessings and Curses of the CovenantOriginal Sin and Universal Guilt; The Gospel as the Power of God for SalvationRomans 3:19-20 (the Law brings wrath); Christ’s curse-bearing (Galatians 3:13, cross-referenced) resolves in Romans 8:1’s “no condemnation” (baseline no_condemnation entry).
Remembering God’s RedemptionUnion with ChristRomans 6’s baptismal identification-language is itself a “remember and re-enact” structure, structurally parallel to Deuteronomy’s redemption-memory festivals.
Obedience Motivated by Love not MeritGrace and Salvation by Faith AloneDirect doctrinal parallel; baseline obedience_of_faith (Romans 1:5, 16:26) shares its exact conceptual shape with Deuteronomy 30:6’s heart-transformation-precedes-obedience logic.
The Coming Prophet like Moses(Christological substrate of all Romans doctrines)Romans 10:4 (Christ as telos of the Law); Romans 1:3-4 (son_of_god baseline entry).
Choosing Life over Death(soteriological polarity throughout Romans)Romans 6:23, Romans 8:6, Romans 5:12-21 — Deuteronomy 30’s life/death choice is the OT precursor of Romans’ entire death-through-Adam/life-through-Christ argument.
Warnings against IdolatryOriginal Sin and Universal GuiltRomans 1:18-32 is the direct doctrinal descendant of Deuteronomy’s idolatry warnings; Romans 1:23’s catalog of images echoes the form of Deuteronomy 4:15-18.

Closing Note

All Critical- and High-risk cross-references identified above — especially Rendering-Consistency Rules #5, #6, #8, and #9 — require human theologian review before any Phase 2 content is generated that touches them, per the escalation discipline already established in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md §9. Rule #9 (Deuteronomy 30:11-14 / Romans 10:6-8) in particular should be escalated as a formal TM-revision proposal given its direct bearing on the already-baselined Romans package.
