Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Cross-Reference Analysis

Psalms — Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis (Hmong Language Package, Psalms Extension)

0. Methodology and Citation Convention

  • Citation format: All citations in this document use the normalizable English-book-name convention requested for Phase 1 analysis (Book Chapter:Verse, e.g. Genesis 15:6, Romans 3:13, Psalm 23:1). This is the analysis-layer convention and is distinct from the destination-language liturgical citation convention (e.g. Loos 1:17 for Romans) fixed in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md §7, which governs Phase 2 curriculum output. A parallel Hmong-language book-name convention for Psalms (likely Nkauj Qhuas or a transliteration, per existing Hmong Bible tradition) is not yet fixed and is flagged [TRANSLATOR REVIEW NEEDED: destination-language book-name convention for Psalms] for resolution before Phase 2 generation.
  • Scope: This document covers (a) every documented direct NT quotation of a Psalm, (b) every Psalm’s own quotation of or clear allusion to earlier Torah/historical material, (c) messianic typology, and (d) rendering-consistency parallels to the Romans Hmong Language Package, per the PRD Phase 1 Step 3 mandate. Every one of the 150 chapters is named explicitly; chapters with no direct quotation/allusion beyond already-logged thematic material are marked “reviewed — no direct quotation” with their thematic connection still recorded, per the full-book-coverage mandate.
  • Translation Sensitivity tiers reuse the Romans baseline’s Critical/High/Medium/Low definitions exactly (bible_term_registry.json registry_metadata).

2.1 Note on Imprecatory Cross-References

Psalm 109:8 is applied to Judas in Acts 1:20 within a narrative-fulfillment frame, not a directive to imitate imprecatory prayer. This must be taught alongside the pastoral-framing note already established for Psalm 109 and Psalm 137 (07_semantic_analysis.md) — the NT’s use of this verse identifies a historical fulfillment, not an endorsement of personal cursing.

4. Romans Parallel Cross-Walk and Rendering-Consistency Rules

Since Romans directly quotes at least fourteen psalms in doctrinally load-bearing arguments, and since both curricula share the same Hmong translation-memory infrastructure, the following rendering-consistency rules are mandatory for any Phase 2 Psalms content touching these overlap points.

4.1 Direct Quotation Overlaps (Psalms text appearing inside Romans’ own argument)

Psalm passageRomans citationShared Hmong TM term(s)Rendering-Consistency Rule
Psalm 14:1-3 / Psalm 53:1-3Romans 3:10-12tus ncaj ncees (righteous, TM A6/#25); rashatus limhiam (Psalms-only, B3)The “none righteous” clause in Psalms 14/53 MUST use the identical tus ncaj ncees string Romans 3:10 uses for the same underlying LXX δίκαιος; tus limhiam (wicked) is a Psalms-specific refinement and is NOT to be back-imported into Romans content, which uses tus tsis hwm Vajtswv (asebēs) for its own distinct emphasis.
Psalm 5:9, 10:7, 36:1, 140:3Romans 3:13-18 (catena)general sin vocabulary, txhaum (TM A8)These four psalm fragments form a single continuous quotation in Romans 3:13-18; if the Psalms curriculum renders any of these verses independently, the phrase-level Hmong wording should be checked against Romans’ existing Phase 2 output (where available) for exact-string alignment, since hearers will recognize the catena across both curricula.
Psalm 32:1-2Romans 4:7-8raug suav tias ncaj ncees / suav / suav tias (TM #26/#40, Critical)Highest-priority consistency rule in this cross-walk. Psalm 32’s “blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven… the LORD will not impute sin” is Paul’s proof-text for imputed righteousness. The Psalms rendering of “impute” MUST use suav / suav tias exactly as fixed in the Romans TM — no alternate verb (e.g., a bare “count” or “consider”) may be substituted, and blessed here must still carry the koob-hmoov prohibition (B2) simultaneously with the imputation qualifier.
Psalm 51:4Romans 3:4ua kom ncaj ncees (justify, TM #26)Psalm 51:4 (“that thou mightest be justified”) applies dikaioō-family vocabulary to God’s vindication, not the sinner’s; render distinctly from the sinner-directed justification formula to avoid implying David is claiming to justify himself.
Psalm 44:22Romans 8:36txoj kev tuag (death, TM A31)Identical phrase reused; no divergence permitted.
Psalm 19:4Romans 10:18general revelation vocabularyLow-risk; no special rule beyond standard consistency.
Psalm 69:22-23Romans 11:9-10lub siab tawv (hardening, TM #58)The “hardening” vocabulary in the Future-of-Israel doctrine (Romans doctrine #8) is directly sourced from this Psalm 69 quotation; Psalms curriculum content on Psalm 69 must use lub siab tawv exactly, reinforcing (not re-coining) the Romans-fixed term.
Psalm 69:9Romans 15:3Messianic-suffering framingNo fixed TM term collision; both curricula should cross-reference each other’s Messianic-typology teaching notes for Psalm 69.
Psalm 18:49Romans 15:9lwm Haiv Neeg (nations/Gentiles, TM A14/#19)Identical phrase reused; no divergence permitted.
Psalm 117:1Romans 15:11lwm Haiv Neeg (TM A14/#19)Identical phrase reused; no divergence permitted.

4.2 Shared Doctrinal-Term Overlaps (same TM term, different books, no direct quotation)

Shared TM termRomans doctrinePsalms doctrineRendering-Consistency Rule
Vaj Ntsuj Plig / ntsuj pligSanctification and Life in the Spirit (#7)Confession and Forgiveness (Psalm 51:11-12)The Romans baseline’s mandatory Vaj-prefix discipline applies with equal or greater stringency in Psalms, since Psalm 51:11-12 places both forms one verse apart. Any Psalms Phase 2 content must pass the identical prefix-discipline validation check used for Romans.
Vajtswv hwjchim (never bare hwjchim)The Gospel as the Power of God for Salvation (#9)Character of God as Refuge (Psalm 91, “Shaddai”)Extend the qualifier rule verbatim to every occurrence of Shaddai/might-vocabulary in the Psalter; no exceptions for poetic compression.
kev cawm dim (anchored to Yexus Khetos)The Gospel as the Power of God for Salvation (#9)Character of God/Shepherd/Refuge (throughout Psalter)In Psalms, kev cawm dim frequently lacks an explicit NT-era Christ-referent within the Hebrew text itself (e.g., Psalm 3:8, “salvation belongeth unto the LORD”); the anchoring-to-Christ rule still applies at the teaching-note level (typological/eschatological fulfillment) even where the verse itself names YHWH, not Yexus Khetos, as agent — the anchoring must be added in commentary, not retrojected into the translated verse text itself.
dab mlom (idol)Original Sin and Universal Guilt (#2)Praise and Worship (Psalm 96, 97, 115, 135)Identical term, identical High-risk handling; Psalms’ idol-polemic psalms are strong positive reinforcement material for the Romans 1:23 idol-exchange teaching and should be cross-taught together.
raug suav tias ncaj nceesJustification by Faith (#1)Confession and Forgiveness (Psalm 32)See §4.1 above — this is the single most important term-level bridge between the two curricula.
kev xaiv (election)Election and the Sovereignty of God (#6)Covenant Faithfulness (Hesed) — Psalm 89, 105, 132 (God’s choice of David/Israel)Where Psalms describes God’s choosing of David or Israel, reuse the Romans-fixed volitional formula Vajtswv xaiv raws li nws lub siab nyiam; never let David’s “chosenness” in the Psalter be rendered with hmoov (fate) vocabulary — the identical prohibition from the Romans baseline applies without modification.
chesed-adjacent terms (txiaj ntsim for grace, txoj kev khuv leej for mercy)Grace and Salvation by Faith Alone (#3)Covenant Faithfulness (Hesed) (#7 in Psalms doctrine list)Critical distinction rule: chesed is NOT simply the OT equivalent of Pauline charis. Romans’ txiaj ntsim denotes unmerited favor toward the guilty within a legal-forensic frame; Psalms’ chesed denotes covenant-loyal love sustained within an already-existing relational bond. Do not substitute one TM term for the other across curricula; both remain permanently distinct per 08_core_glossary.md B1.
Leej Tub ntawm Vajtswv (Son of God)Union with Christ (#4)Kingship and the Messianic King (Psalm 2, 45, 89, 110)The OT “sonship” texts (Psalm 2:7 especially) must be taught with the two-layer distinction (B5) so that Romans’ full-deity Sonship teaching is not read backward into the OT text as though the Davidic king himself possessed ontological deity, while still preserving the typological trajectory toward Christ.
tus pov thawj (priest, Psalms-specific, B6) vs. tus ua haujlwm pab Vajtswv (priestly minister, Romans TM #12/#63)Christian Living and Unity in the Church (#10)Kingship and the Messianic King (Psalm 110, Melchizedek)These are deliberately DIFFERENT Hmong terms for different referents (OT cultic priestly office vs. Paul’s general ministry self-description); do not conflate. Both share the identical txiv neeb prohibition.

4.4 Structural Consistency Requirement

Per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md §5’s consistency requirement (inherited and extended here): the 26-fold chesed refrain in Psalm 136, the recurring “blessed” formula (Psalm 1, 32, 41, 112, 118, 128, 146), and every cross-quoted verse identified in §4.1 above must render identically at every occurrence within the Psalms curriculum, and must align at the term level (not necessarily verse-string level, since genre differs) with the corresponding Romans TM entries identified in §4.1-4.2. Any proposed deviation requires the same TM-revision review process defined in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md §10.

5. Full-Book Coverage Confirmation

All 150 chapters of the Psalter have been explicitly named in §§1-3 above, each with an identified theme, related character, OT/NT connection (or explicit “reviewed — no direct quotation” notation with thematic connection preserved), and translation-sensitivity tier, per the mandatory full-book-coverage rule inherited from the Romans baseline and restated in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md’s system prompt.
