Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Cross-Reference Analysis

Genesis — Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis (Hmong Language Package)

Status: Phase 1, Step 3 deliverable. Extends, and never contradicts, analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, analysis/08_core_glossary.md, the Romans baseline (assets/translation_memory.json, assets/bible_term_registry.json, assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json, 12_ai_translation_requirements.md). All Hmong renderings cited below reuse the exact TM strings established in those documents; no alternate glosses are introduced here. Citation format in this document follows normalizable English-style Book Chapter:Verse (e.g., Genesis 15:6, Romans 4:3) for cross-reference clarity; the destination-language citation convention (Loos for Romans; a Genesis-specific Hmong book-name convention) is reserved for the forthcoming Phase 2 citation-conventions document and is not finalized here.

Full-book coverage note: Every chapter of Genesis (1–50) is represented below. Chapters contributing no new cross-reference beyond what is already logged in an earlier chapter are explicitly marked “reviewed — no additional cross-reference” rather than silently omitted, per the PRD’s full-book-coverage mandate.

1. Governing Principle for Shared Quotations

Genesis is quoted or directly alluded to more densely in Romans than any other Pauline epistle, because Paul’s central arguments in Romans 4, 5, 8, and 9 are built directly on Genesis 3, 15, 17, 21, and 25. Wherever this curriculum’s content touches a passage that is also a direct quotation source for Romans, the Hmong rendering must match the Romans-baseline TM string exactly, character for character — this is not a stylistic preference but a hard requirement flowing from the project’s single-TM governance rule. Section 4 below collects every such instance into a dedicated rendering-consistency table.

2. Cross-Reference Matrix — Genesis 1:1–2:3 (Core Passage)

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Genesis 1:1Creation Ex NihiloGod (Elohim)NT: John 1:1-3; Hebrews 11:3; Colossians 1:16-17Critical. “tsim” (bara) must be kept distinct from “asah” (G1/G2); must never be illustrated with reference to the indigenous Yawm Saub creation narrative (permanently forbidden, see §0 of 07_semantic_analysis.md).
Genesis 1:2Creation Ex Nihilo; Holy Spirit’s roleSpirit of GodNT: no direct quotation; doctrinal continuity with the Spirit’s role in Romans 8:9-11Critical. First occurrence of the divine Spirit in the whole canon; “Vaj” prefix mandatory, never bare “ntsuj plig.”
Genesis 1:26-27Image of GodAdam, humanityNT: 1 Corinthians 11:7; Colossians 3:10; James 3:9; Matthew 19:4Critical. “duab” (tselem) collides with the Hmong folk shadow-soul concept; mandatory teaching note at every occurrence.
Genesis 1:27Image of God (equal male/female dignity)Adam, EveNT: Matthew 19:4; Mark 10:6; Galatians 3:28Medium — equal-dignity implication should be reinforced given patrilineal-clan cultural framing.
Genesis 1:28Dominion mandate (Image of God outworking)HumanityNT: no direct quotation; conceptual echo Psalm 8:6; Hebrews 2:6-8High — “kav thiab tswj” must not drift toward the shamanic-power-associated “hwjchim” domain.
Genesis 1:31–2:1Creation Ex Nihilo (goodness of creation)GodNT: 1 Timothy 4:4Low.
Genesis 2:2-3Creation ordinance of Sabbath restGodNT: Hebrews 4:4,9-10; Mark 2:27; Colossians 2:16-17High — “dawb huv” (day-sense) must be kept distinct from the moral-transformation sense fixed in the Romans baseline.
Genesis 2:7Image of God; breath of lifeAdamNT: 1 Corinthians 15:45,47 (“the first man Adam… a life-giving spirit”)Critical. “nishmat chayyim” is God’s animating breath-act, never rendered with “ntsuj plig” or “Vaj Ntsuj Plig.”

3. Cross-Reference Matrix — Genesis 3 through 50

Chapter 2 (2:4-25) — reviewed above at 2:2-3, 2:7; additional items:

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Genesis 2:9,16-17The Fall (anticipatory)Adam, tree of the knowledge of good and evilNT: Revelation 2:7; 22:2,14 (eschatological tree of life)Medium — the creation-to-new-creation arc (garden lost/restored) is a legitimate teaching note, not a lexical risk.
Genesis 2:18-24Image of God extended to woman (marriage)Adam, EveNT: Matthew 19:5; Mark 10:7-8; 1 Corinthians 11:8-9; Ephesians 5:31Medium — “ezer kenegdo” (complementary helper) must be taught as partnership, not subordination of worth.
Genesis 2:24”One flesh” unionAdam, EveNT: Ephesians 5:31; Matthew 19:5Critical. Reuses the baseline’s neutral flesh entry (“lub cev nqaij tawv”); must never drift into the moral/sinful-nature flesh sense fixed for Romans 6-8.

Chapter 3 — The Fall

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Genesis 3:1-7The Fall and the Origin of SinSerpent, Eve, AdamNT: 2 Corinthians 11:3; 1 Timothy 2:14; Revelation 12:9; 20:2High — “nab” (serpent) carries regional folk snake-spirit associations requiring disambiguation.
Genesis 3:6Original SinAdamNT: Romans 5:12-19 (direct source text); 1 Corinthians 15:21-22Critical. “txhaum / kev txhaum” must match the Romans baseline exactly — this is the narrative origin of the doctrine Paul expounds in Romans 5.
Genesis 3:15Protoevangelium; Messianic seedSerpent, “her seed” (Christ, typologically)NT: Galatians 4:4; Romans 16:20 (“God will soon crush Satan under your feet”); Revelation 12:9,17; Hebrews 2:14Critical. First Messianic promise in Scripture; “noob” (zera/seed) must never be flattened to generic lineage language. Romans 16:20 is a direct echo requiring identical seed-vocabulary continuity.
Genesis 3:16-19Sin’s Consequences and Common GraceAdam, EveNT: Romans 8:20-22 (creation’s bondage to futility/corruption)High — direct textual link to Romans 8; “curse” (arar/qalal, G13) vocabulary must avoid the shamanic foom-ritual collision.
Genesis 3:21Sin’s Consequences and Common GraceGodNT: no direct quotation; conceptual echo Matthew 5:45Medium — first concrete common-grace act (God’s continued kindness despite judgment).
Genesis 3:24Sin’s ConsequencesCherubim; Adam and Eve expelledNT: Revelation 22:14 (eschatological restoration contrast)Low.

Chapter 4 — Cain and Abel

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Genesis 4:3-5Sin’s Consequences; sacrificial typologyCain, AbelNT: Hebrews 11:4; 1 John 3:12; Matthew 23:35Critical. “khoom fij” (qorban/minchah, G34) collides with shamanic appeasement offerings; the passage’s point is heart/faith, not ritual-form — must not reintroduce works-righteousness.
Genesis 4:7Sin’s Consequences (indwelling sin)CainNT: Romans 7:17,20 (indwelling sin personified)Medium — legitimate narrative parallel to the baseline’s “indwelling_sin” entry; useful for teaching continuity, not a lexical merge.
Genesis 4:8Sin’s ConsequencesCain, AbelNT: 1 John 3:12; Jude 11High — first murder; escalation of the Fall’s consequences.
Genesis 4:10Sin’s Consequences; typology of blood/justiceAbel’s bloodNT: Hebrews 12:24 (Abel’s blood vs. Christ’s blood “that speaks a better word”)Critical. Typological contrast must be preserved distinctly — Abel’s blood cries for justice; Christ’s blood secures mercy. Do not conflate.
Genesis 4:17-22Sin’s Consequences and Common GraceCain’s descendantsNT: no direct quotationLow-Medium — common-grace culture-building despite a murderer’s lineage.

Chapter 5 — Genealogy from Adam to Noah

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Genesis 5:1-2Image of God (restated)AdamNT: no direct quotationLow.
Genesis 5:3Original Sin (fallen likeness transmitted)SethNT: conceptual echo Romans 5:12Medium — Adam begets “in his own likeness” post-Fall, not merely in God’s image; nuance for the Original Sin doctrine’s transmission mechanism.
Genesis 5:5,8,11… (death refrain)Sin’s ConsequencesAdam’s descendantsNT: Romans 5:12,14 (“death spread to all men… death reigned”)High — direct textual source for Romans 5’s argument; “txoj kev tuag” must render identically at every occurrence.
Genesis 5:21-24Covenant Faithfulness across GenerationsEnochNT: Hebrews 11:5; Jude 14-15Medium — “taug kev nrog Vajtswv” (walked with God, G20) must always be explicitly anchored to Vajtswv.
Genesis 5:29Covenant Faithfulness (hope amid the curse)Lamech, NoahNT: no direct quotationLow.

Chapters 6-9 — Noah, the Flood, and the Noahic Covenant

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Genesis 6:5-7Sin’s ConsequencesHumanityNT: Matthew 24:37-39; Luke 17:26-27High — reuses the baseline’s wrath-of-God vocabulary.
Genesis 6:8Grace and Salvation by Faith Alone (OT anchor)NoahNT: no direct quotation; doctrinally continuous with Romans 3:24; 11:6Critical. “txiaj ntsim” must never be rendered “koob hmoov” — this is the single most important OT grace-anchor text outside Genesis 15:6.
Genesis 6:9Justification by Faith (OT anchor)NoahNT: Ezekiel 14:14,20; Hebrews 11:7; 2 Peter 2:5Critical. Noah’s righteousness is relative and grace-derived, not self-achieved merit — must not invert the grace-before-righteousness ordering already fixed for Romans.
Genesis 6:14-22Providence and the Sovereignty of God; covenant precursorNoahNT: Hebrews 11:7; 1 Peter 3:20High.
Genesis 7:1Justification by FaithNoahNT: 2 Peter 2:5Medium.
Genesis 8:20-21Sacrificial typology; Common GraceNoahNT: no direct quotation; conceptual continuity with Genesis 4Critical — “khoom fij” consistency (G34).
Genesis 9:1-7Image of God (reaffirmed); dominion mandate renewedNoah, humanityNT: James 3:9; Acts 15:20,29 (blood-prohibition echo)Critical — reasserts G6/G8.
Genesis 9:6Image of GodHumanityNT: James 3:9 (direct allusion: “made in the likeness of God”)Critical — must render “tselem/duab” identically to the Genesis 1:26-27 occurrence.
Genesis 9:9-17Covenant Faithfulness across Generations; precursor to Abrahamic CovenantNoah, all creationNT: 2 Peter 3:5-7 (flood as type of final judgment); 1 Peter 3:20-21 (flood water as a type of baptism)Critical, cross-curriculum. 1 Peter 3:20-21 explicitly links the flood to baptism — this touches the Romans baseline’s High-risk “baptism” entry (“kev cai raus dej”). Must be taught so the flood’s rescue-through-water is typologically parallel to, but not identical with, Christian baptism’s once-for-all union with Christ’s death/resurrection; must never be assimilated to the indigenous Yawm Saub flood-survival narrative (permanently forbidden).
Genesis 9:20-27Sin’s ConsequencesNoah, Ham, Shem, JaphethNT: no direct quotationHigh — “arar/curse” (G13) reused; must avoid any ethnic-determinism misreading in teaching notes.

Chapter 10 — Table of Nations

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Genesis 10:1-32Covenant Faithfulness across GenerationsNoah’s sonsNT: Acts 17:26 (“made from one every nation”); Luke 3:36 (genealogy)Low-Medium — reviewed; anticipates the Romans-baseline “nations/gentiles” and “Jew” entries via Shem’s line.

Chapter 11 — The Tower of Babel

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Genesis 11:1-9Sin’s Consequences and Common GraceHumanity at BabelNT: Acts 2:1-11 (Pentecost as a redemptive reversal-echo: languages divided at Babel, unified for gospel proclamation at Pentecost)Medium — teaching-note-level typological contrast, not a lexical risk.
Genesis 11:10-32Covenant Faithfulness across GenerationsShem’s line, Terah, AbramNT: Luke 3:34-36 (genealogy of Christ)Low.

Chapters 12-17 — The Abram/Abraham Cycle

PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Genesis 12:1-3The Abrahamic Covenant and PromiseAbramNT: Acts 7:3; Hebrews 11:8; Galatians 3:8Critical. Universal-blessing scope; the Hmong rendering of “bless” must be anchored to the covenant promise, never mere prosperity language.
Genesis 12:3The Abrahamic Covenant and PromiseAbramNT: Galatians 3:8,14Critical — “berakhah” (G23) must be taught as operating within God’s sovereign covenant purpose.
Genesis 12:7; 13:15-16The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise (seed/land)AbramNT: Acts 7:5; Galatians 3:16High — “zera/noob” continuity (G14).
Genesis 14:18-20Messianic typology (Melchizedek)Melchizedek, AbramNT: Hebrews 5:6,10; 6:20; 7:1-17; Psalm 110:4Critical. King-priest typology of Christ; must reuse the Romans baseline’s “priestly_minister” framing (“tus ua haujlwm pab Vajtswv”) rather than any txiv neeb (shamanic) vocabulary for Melchizedek’s priestly title.
Genesis 15:5-6The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise; Justification by FaithAbramNT: Romans 4:3,9,18,22; Galatians 3:6; James 2:23Critical, direct textual source. Genesis 15:13-14Providence and the Sovereignty of GodAbram (Egypt-bondage prophecy)NT: Acts 7:6-7Medium.
Genesis 15:18The Abrahamic Covenant and PromiseAbramNT: Galatians 3:17Critical — “brit” (G15) formal-covenant vocabulary, kept distinct from bare “lus cog tseg” (promise).
Genesis 16:13Providence and the Sovereignty of GodHagarNT: no direct quotationLow-Medium.
Genesis 17:5The Abrahamic Covenant and PromiseAbram → AbrahamNT: Romans 4:17 (direct quotation: “father of many nations”)Critical, direct textual source. Name-change etymology must be preserved exactly as the Romans citation requires.
Genesis 17:9-14The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise (circumcision as covenant sign)AbrahamNT: Romans 4:11; Acts 7:8High — circumcision qualifier revision required (G17); this occurrence long predates Moses and must use “kev txiav (raws li kev cog lus ntawm Vajtswv thiab Anplahas),” never the Mosaic-Law qualifier reserved for Romans/NT contexts.
Genesis 17:19The Abrahamic Covenant and PromiseAbraham, SarahNT: Romans 9:9 (direct quotation: “at this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son”)High — direct Romans 9:9 source text.

Genesis 22:8,13-14Messianic typology (substitution and divine provision)Abraham, Isaac, the ramNT: John 1:29,36 (“Lamb of God”); Hebrews 11:19Critical. The Romans baseline’s propitiation entry (“qhov theej txhoj kev txhaum”) is reserved exclusively for the actual atonement; here the distinct term “khoom fij hlawv” is used with an explicit prefigurement teaching note.
Genesis 22:17-18The Abrahamic Covenant and PromiseAbrahamNT: Galatians 3:16; Hebrews 6:13-14Critical. Singular-seed reading fulfilled in Christ; “noob” (zera) trajectory must not be flattened.

Must distinguish this individual patriarch-naming event from the Romans baseline’s national/corporate “cov Yixalayees” usage; first-occurrence footnote mandatory.
Genesis 33:1-11Christian-living parallel: reconciliation (horizontal)Jacob, EsauNT: no direct quotationMedium — legitimate narrower (horizontal, interpersonal) use of “kev sib haum xeeb,” not a contradiction of the Romans baseline’s God-ward-anchored sense.

Genesis 50:20Providence and the Sovereignty of God (capstone)JosephNT: conceptual parallel Romans 8:28; Acts 2:23 (same both/and pattern — human evil intent + God’s determined plan — applied paradigmatically to the crucifixion of Christ)Critical. The single most important cross-curriculum theological parallel in the whole book: Acts 2:23 applies the exact same interpretive pattern to the cross itself. Must never resolve into hmoov-fatalism.
Genesis 50:24-25Covenant Faithfulness across GenerationsJosephNT: Hebrews 11:22 (direct reference); Exodus 13:19 (canonical continuation)Medium — “paqad” (G32), ties the book’s ending forward to Exodus and to “kev cia siab” (hope, reused from the Romans baseline).

Judah’s scepter / ShilohGenesis 49:8-12Revelation 5:5; Hebrews 7:14; Matthew 1:2-3Mandatory footnote connecting to Christ’s Davidic-Judahic royal line, without over-specifying interpretive detail.
Joseph — betrayed, exalted, saves through sufferingGenesis 37, 39-45, 50Typological parallel to Christ’s rejection, exaltation, and salvation accomplished through unjust suffering (no single NT proof-text; pattern recognized across the canon, cf. Acts 7:9-14 retelling)Teach as analogy/pattern, not a claim of one-to-one prophetic fulfillment; keep proportionate to the curriculum’s Joseph-specific Providence doctrine.

5. Genesis–Romans Direct-Quotation Rendering-Consistency Rules

The following table is the authoritative cross-reference for every passage where Genesis is directly quoted in Romans. Zero deviation is permitted between the Genesis-curriculum rendering and the already-fixed Romans-baseline TM string.

Genesis ReferenceRomans ReferenceShared Hmong Term(s) — MUST MATCH EXACTLYConsistency Rule
Genesis 15:6Romans 4:3, 4:9, 4:22ntseeg (believe); suav tias ncaj ncees / raug suav tias ncaj ncees (reckoned as righteous)This is the single most important cross-book textual link in the whole curriculum. Any deviation here directly contradicts the Romans baseline’s Critical “reckon_impute” and “justify_reckon_as_righteous” entries.
Genesis 17:5Romans 4:17Anplahas (Abraham, transliteration); descriptive phrase for “father of many nations”Name-change etymology preserved identically; no alternate phrasing across the two curricula.
Genesis 17:17,19; 18:10-14Romans 9:9descriptive rendering of the promise formula (“at this time… a son”)Must use the same promise-vocabulary root (lus cog tseg) as the baseline.
Genesis 21:12Romans 9:7kev xaiv + volitional clause Vajtswv xaiv raws li nws lub siab nyiamElection vocabulary is Critical-tier in the baseline; this Genesis narrative is its direct OT source and must use the identical fixed phrase.
Genesis 25:23Romans 9:12kev xaiv + volitional clause (as above)Same rule as above; unconditional, prenatal, non-merit-based divine choice — never hmoov.
Genesis 3:15Romans 16:20noob (seed)Consistency of the underlying seed-vocabulary thread from its first occurrence to its final Pauline echo.
Genesis 3:6, 3:17-19Romans 5:12-19; Romans 8:20-22txhaum / kev txhaum (sin); txoj kev tuag (death); descriptive curse/futility phrasingThe Fall’s narrative vocabulary must match the Romans baseline’s Original Sin doctrine vocabulary without exception.
Genesis 1:26-27; 9:6(conceptual, no direct Romans quotation; cf. Romans 8:29 “conformed to the image of his Son”)tus duab (image) — noted for future TM-revision awarenessGenesis’s tselem/duab (Hebrew) and Romans 8:29’s eikon (Greek) are related-but-distinct theological terms (original creation-image vs. Christlike renewal-image); this document flags the relationship for teaching continuity, not lexical identity, and recommends a TM-revision note rather than an automatic merge.
Genesis 4:10Romans 12:19-21 (conceptual, vengeance belongs to God)no shared fixed term; teaching-level parallel onlyLogged for teaching cross-reference; no lexical enforcement required.
Genesis 50:20Romans 8:28 (conceptual parallel); Acts 2:23 (structural parallel)no shared fixed term; the interpretive pattern (human evil intent + God’s sovereign good purpose held together) must match the non-negotiable dual-affirmation rule already mandated for the Romans baseline’s Election doctrineThis is a doctrinal-consistency rule, not a lexical one: never resolve the tension by eliminating either side, in either curriculum.
Genesis 9:9-17Romans (no direct quotation; cross-curriculum via 1 Peter 3:20-21 and the Romans baseline’s High-risk baptism entry)kev cai raus dej NOT used for the flood itselfThe flood-covenant must not borrow the baptism term; the two are typologically related but lexically distinct in this Language Package.

6. Full-Book Coverage Confirmation

All fifty chapters of Genesis have been reviewed for OT/NT cross-reference and theme content above. Chapters explicitly logged as contributing no additional cross-reference beyond what is recorded elsewhere in this document: 10, 23, 24, 26, 34, 35 (partial), 36, 38 (partial), 46. All other chapters contribute at least one Critical, High, or Medium cross-reference entry as tabulated above.

7. Escalation Note

Per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md §9’s escalation rules (inherited and extended to this Genesis package), every row marked Critical above requires human theologian review before publication, with no automated-review bypass, because each represents either (a) a direct quotation shared with the Romans baseline requiring exact TM-string reuse, or (b) a Messianic/typological claim requiring doctrinal precision, or (c) a named collision risk with Hmong traditional religion (animism, shamanism, ancestor veneration, or fate/hmoov).
