Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Cross-Reference Analysis

Isaiah — Cross-Reference Analysis (Hmong Language Package)

§0. Methodology and Citation Convention

This document maps every OT quotation and allusion touching each of Isaiah’s 66 chapters, together with the book’s own backward allusions to earlier Scripture (chiefly Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy, Psalms) and forward citations/allusions in the New Testament. Because this analysis document is an internal cross-reference tool (not destination-language curriculum output), citations here use normalizable full-book-name English formatIsaiah 53:1, Romans 10:16, Genesis 15:6 — rather than the Hmong-facing Loos [chapter]:[verse] convention fixed in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md §7. That Hmong citation convention still governs all destination-language curriculum output derived from this analysis; it does not govern this internal document.

Every row is tagged with a Translation Sensitivity rating using the identical Critical/High/Medium/Low tier definitions fixed in assets/bible_term_registry.json’s registry_metadata.risk_tier_definitions. Where a row touches a term already governed by the Romans-baseline TM or by analysis/08_core_glossary.md Section A/B, the exact Hmong rendering is cited so that Phase 2 generation never re-glosses a shared quotation differently across the two curricula.

§1. Section A — Master Table: Direct New Testament Quotations of Isaiah

This is the highest-priority table in this document for rendering-consistency purposes, because every row below represents a passage that could appear verbatim, or in close paraphrase, in both an Isaiah curriculum lesson and a Romans curriculum lesson (or another future NT curriculum) in this same Hmong Language Package. The governing rule: the Hmong rendering of the quoted clause must be identical wherever it recurs, per the hard rule that established TM renderings are reused exactly.

#Isaiah PassageNT QuotationThemeRelated CharacterTranslation Sensitivity
1Isaiah 7:14Matthew 1:23Coming Messiah — virgin birth, ImmanuelAhaz; the MessiahCritical — B4/B5 (Emanuyees; tus ntxhais dawb huv uas tsis tau sib deev); must retain unambiguous virginity marker and full-deity “God with us” sense in both curricula.
2Isaiah 9:1-2Matthew 4:15-16Coming Messiah — light to GalileeThe MessiahMedium — light/darkness imagery; no collision, reuses glory/creation framework.
3Isaiah 6:9-10Matthew 13:14-15; Mark 4:12; Luke 8:10; John 12:40; Acts 28:26-27Judgment on Idolatry/Injustice — hardeningIsaiah; “this people” (Israel)Medium — TM-inherited hardening (lub siab tawv); must render identically to the Romans 11:8 quotation of Isaiah 29:10 (see row 6) since both derive from the same Hmong TM entry, even though they quote different Isaiah verses.
4Isaiah 53:4Matthew 8:17Suffering Servant — vicarious healingJesus; the ServantCritical — B7 (Vajtswv txoj kev kho...ib zaug xwb); Matthew explicitly applies this to Jesus’ healing ministry, so the once-for-all/substitutionary qualifier must not be dropped even in a narrative-healing-miracle context.
5Isaiah 29:13Matthew 15:8-9; Mark 7:6-7Judgment on Idolatry/Injustice — empty ritualismPharisees (typological)Low-Medium — reuses ch.1 sacrifice-critique vocabulary; no new collision.
6Isaiah 29:10Romans 11:8Election/Sovereignty — hardeningIsraelMedium — TM-inherited hardening (lub siab tawv); MUST match rendering of row 3’s Matthew 13:14-15 quotation of Isaiah 6:9-10, since Paul’s Romans 11:8 citation and the Gospel citations of Isaiah 6 describe the identical theological phenomenon using the same Hmong idiom.
7Isaiah 56:7Matthew 21:13; Mark 11:17; Luke 19:46Salvation to Nations — house of prayer for all nationsJesusHigh — B20 (lwm Haiv Neeg uas koom nrog tus Tswv); reuses TM nations_gentiles; must be rendered identically to Isaiah 56:3-8’s own text.
8Isaiah 61:1-2Luke 4:18-19Suffering Servant — Spirit-anointed gospel-commissionJesus (self-identification)Critical — B21; combines TM-inherited Vaj Ntsuj Plig and Txoj Moo Zoo; among the highest-priority rows in this whole table because Jesus explicitly claims this text of Himself — the Hmong rendering used in the Isaiah 61:1 lesson and in any Luke 4 curriculum must be character-for-character identical.
9Isaiah 53:1John 12:38; Romans 10:16Suffering Servant — universal unbelief at the Servant’s messageThe Servant; unbelieving hearersCritical — core passage v.1; reuses TM faith_believe; this is the single most important shared-quotation row in the entire matrix, since it is the literal opening verse of the assigned core passage AND a verse Paul quotes directly in Romans. The Hmong rendering fixed for Isaiah 53:1 in Phase 2 generation becomes, by this cross-reference, the mandatory rendering for any future Romans 10:16 citation in this pipeline, and vice versa — no alternate phrasing permitted between the two curricula.
10Isaiah 6:1,10John 12:40-41Holiness/Majesty of God — hardened perception of gloryIsaiahCritical — reuses B2 (Dawb Huv...) and TM glory; John explicitly identifies the “Him” Isaiah saw as Christ’s glory — a strong typological deity-of-Christ text requiring the same full-deity handling as B4/B5.
11Isaiah 54:13John 6:45Comfort/Restoration — Spirit-taught peopleGod’s peopleLow-Medium — new-covenant teaching image; no collision.
12Isaiah 53:7-8Acts 8:32-33Suffering Servant — silent sacrificial lambThe Servant; Philip; the Ethiopian eunuchCritical — core passage v.7-8; direct narrative application to Jesus in the earliest recorded gospel-explanation-from-Isaiah-53 scene in Acts; the Hmong rendering of raug coj mus tua zoo li ib tug menyuam yaj (v.7) and raug txiav tu ntawm cov neeg tseem ciaj sia (v.8) must be usable without modification in any Acts 8 curriculum lesson.
13Isaiah 55:3Acts 13:34Comfort/Restoration — sure mercies of David, resurrectionDavid (typological); JesusHigh — B15/B16 (covenant, chesed); ties resurrection-vindication to the Davidic covenant.
14Isaiah 49:6Acts 13:47Salvation to Nations — light to the GentilesThe Servant; Paul and BarnabasCritical — reuses TM nations_gentiles; Paul and Barnabas explicitly apply the Servant’s Gentile-light commission to their own apostolic mission — direct bridge to the Romans-package apostle (tus Tub Txib) entry.
15Isaiah 52:5Romans 2:24Judgment on Idolatry/Injustice — God’s name blasphemed among the nationsIsraelMedium — reuses nations_gentiles; no new collision.
16Isaiah 59:7-8Romans 3:15-17Judgment on Idolatry/Injustice — universal unrighteousnessHumanity generallyHigh — reuses TM sin_act_and_condition/unrighteousness; part of Paul’s catena of OT texts proving universal guilt (Romans 3:9-20), directly supporting the Romans-baseline Critical doctrine “Original Sin and Universal Guilt.”
17Isaiah 52:7Romans 10:15Gospel as Power of God — beautiful feet bringing good newsThe messenger (typologically the Servant/apostles)CriticalTM-inherited gospel (Txoj Moo Zoo) and salvation_save; this is the single clearest OT anchor for the Romans-baseline gospel entry and must be reused unchanged in both curricula.
18Isaiah 28:16Romans 9:33; Romans 10:11; 1 Peter 2:6Justification by Faith — the tested cornerstoneThe Messiah (typologically Christ)CriticalTM-inherited stumbling_block and faith_believe; a triple-attested NT quotation, meaning the Hmong rendering fixed here also governs any future 1 Peter curriculum in this pipeline.
19Isaiah 8:14Romans 9:33; 1 Peter 2:8Election/Sovereignty — stone of stumblingIsrael; ChristCriticalTM-inherited stumbling_block (qhov/pob zeb ua rau dawm ceg); must match row 18 exactly since Romans 9:33 conflates both Isaiah verses into a single composite citation.
20Isaiah 10:22-23Romans 9:27-28Election/Sovereignty; Future of Israel — the remnantIsraelTM-inherited — Low; remnant (cov seem).
21Isaiah 1:9Romans 9:29Election/Sovereignty; Future of Israel — remnant like Sodom’s survivorsIsraelTM-inherited — Low; cov seem; also carries backward allusion to Genesis 19:1-29 (see §3 below).
22Isaiah 29:16; Isaiah 45:9Romans 9:20-21Election/Sovereignty — potter and clayGod; humanityMedium — reuses ch.64:8 potter-image (tus puab av thiab peb cov av); must render identically wherever the potter metaphor recurs (Isaiah 29:16, 45:9, 64:8; Romans 9:20-21).
23Isaiah 65:1-2Romans 10:20-21Salvation to Nations; Election — God found by those not seeking HimGentiles; rebellious IsraelHigh — reuses nations_gentiles, election_choose, and B22 (kev fav xeeb); confirms Isaiah 65 as a direct bridge-chapter to Romans 9-11.
24Isaiah 59:20-21Romans 11:26-27Future of Israel; Comfort/Restoration — the Redeemer comes to ZionThe Redeemer (Messiah); IsraelCritical — reuses B14 (Tus Txhiv), TM holy_spirit; direct textual root of the Romans-baseline all_israel_will_be_saved entry — must be taught as a single continuous doctrine across both curricula.
25Isaiah 40:13Romans 11:34; 1 Corinthians 2:16Sovereignty of God over the Nations — the LORD’s unsearchable mindGodTM-inherited — Medium; will_of_god (Vajtswv lub siab nyiam).
26Isaiah 11:10Romans 15:12Salvation to Nations; Coming Messiah — Root of Jesse, ensign to nationsThe Messiah (Davidic Root)Medium — reuses nations_gentiles; direct confirmation of Isaiah 11’s doctrinal weight for both curricula.
27Isaiah 52:15Romans 15:21Suffering Servant; Salvation to Nations — sprinkling many nationsThe ServantHigh — reuses nations_gentiles; immediately precedes the core passage (52:13-15 as its overture) and is quoted by Paul in his own missionary self-description.
28Isaiah 45:23Romans 14:11; Philippians 2:10-11Sovereignty of God over the Nations — universal submissionGod; every creatureLow-Medium — txhua lub hauv caug yuav txhos; Philippians 2 applies this text christologically (every knee bows to Christ), reinforcing the full-deity doctrine already flagged at B3/B4.
29Isaiah 25:81 Corinthians 15:54; Revelation 21:4New Heavens/New Earth — death swallowed upGod’s peopleCritical — reuses TM death; connects the Isaiah 25:8 “swallow up death” image forward through Paul’s resurrection chapter to Revelation’s final consummation — a single unbroken theme-thread requiring consistent rendering across three possible curricula.
30Isaiah 22:131 Corinthians 15:32Judgment on Idolatry/Injustice — eat, drink, for tomorrow we die (fatalism rebuked)Jerusalem’s revelersLow — cited by Paul as a foil for resurrection hope; no new collision.
31Isaiah 64:41 Corinthians 2:9Comfort/Restoration — what God has prepared for those who waitGod’s peopleLow-Medium — reuses TM hope.
32Isaiah 40:6-81 Peter 1:24-25Comfort/Restoration; Sovereignty over Nations — the word of God stands foreverHumanity (frailty); God’s wordMedium — reuses flesh_neutral_descent_body framework (mortality sense) and TM scripture.
33Isaiah 53:51 Peter 2:24Suffering Servant — by His wounds you were healedThe Servant; Jesus; believersCritical — core passage v.5; the single most theologically dense shared-quotation row after row 9; Peter applies the healing-substitution claim directly to Jesus’ cross, meaning the mandatory once-for-all healing qualifier (B7) must appear identically in both the Isaiah 53 core-passage lesson and any 1 Peter 2 curriculum lesson.
34Isaiah 53:91 Peter 2:22Suffering Servant — sinlessness of the ServantThe Servant; JesusCritical — core passage v.9; establishes the moral-perfection ground necessary for substitution to be valid; must render identically.
35Isaiah 8:12-131 Peter 3:14-15Holiness/Majesty of God — fear not, but sanctify the Lord in your heartsBelieversHigh — reuses B11/B12 (“fear not” vs. “fear/reverence”) distinction; 1 Peter deliberately combines both senses in one clause, requiring extra care that the two Isaiah-derived Hmong entries are not confused when quoted together.
36Isaiah 54:1Galatians 4:27Comfort/Restoration — barren woman’s many childrenSarah (typological); the Jerusalem aboveMedium — Zion/covenant-community imagery; ties to adoption_as_sons framework already fixed in the Romans TM.
37Isaiah 52:112 Corinthians 6:17Comfort/Restoration — come out, be separateGod’s peopleLow — call to holiness/separation; reuses B2 dawb huv framework at a comprehension level.
38Isaiah 49:82 Corinthians 6:2Comfort/Restoration; Salvation to Nations — the acceptable time, day of salvationGod’s peopleTM-inherited — Medium; salvation_save; anchoring convention applies.
39Isaiah 65:17; Isaiah 66:222 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1New Heavens/New EarthGod; the redeemedCritical — B17; must be rendered identically wherever “new heavens and new earth” recurs in this pipeline, including any future Revelation curriculum — this is the book’s doctrinal capstone term.
40Isaiah 35:10; Isaiah 25:8Revelation 21:4New Heavens/New Earth; Comfort/Restoration — no more tears, sorrow, or deathGod’s peopleHigh — reuses death, ties chs. 25, 35, 65-66 into a single unbroken eschatological-hope thread that must be taught as one doctrine, not three isolated poetic texts.
41Isaiah 60:19-20Revelation 21:23-25; Revelation 22:5New Heavens/New Earth; Sovereignty over Nations — the LORD as everlasting lightGod; the nationsMedium-High — reuses glory, nations_gentiles.
42Isaiah 49:10Revelation 7:16Comfort/Restoration — no more hunger or thirstThe redeemed multitude from all nationsMedium — reuses nations_gentiles, shepherd imagery.
43Isaiah 6:3Revelation 4:8Holiness/Majesty of God — Holy, Holy, HolyThe seraphim; the four living creaturesCritical — B2, the book’s programmatic holiness statement, quoted verbatim in Revelation’s throne-room vision; must render identically in both a future Isaiah 6 lesson and any Revelation 4 curriculum.
44Isaiah 11:4Revelation 19:15Coming Messiah — striking the nations with the rod of His mouthThe MessiahHigh — reuses power(hwjchim)-qualified sovereignty framework; must be qualified Vajtswv hwjchim per the standing rule even in this end-times-judgment application.
45Isaiah 63:1-3Revelation 19:13-15Sovereignty of God over the Nations — the divine warrior’s bloodstained garmentsThe Divine Warrior (Messiah)High — reuses wrath_of_god; judicial, not capricious, character must be preserved (see §3 ch.63 note).
46Isaiah 14:12-15Luke 10:18 (allusion)Sovereignty of God over the Nations — the fall of the “day star”Babylon’s king (historically); traditionally applied to Satan’s fall[TRANSLATOR REVIEW NEEDED: possible collision with spirit-being vocabulary] — Medium; flagged in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md ch.13-14 note; must not be assimilated to existing Hmong fallen-spirit/evil-spirit concepts without careful, explicit non-syncretistic teaching.
47Isaiah 34:4; Isaiah 13:10Matthew 24:29; Revelation 6:13-14Sovereignty of God over the Nations — cosmic judgment imagery, sun/moon/starsCreation (cosmic order)Medium-High — apocalyptic cosmic-collapse imagery; reuses wrath_of_god, creation; must be taught as literal-future/typological-present dual reading consistent with Jesus’ own use in Matthew 24.
48Isaiah 66:24Mark 9:48Judgment on Idolatry/Injustice — the undying worm, final judgmentThe unrepentantHigh — reuses wrath_of_god/no_condemnation; the book’s own final verse, quoted by Jesus of final judgment; must be preserved as sober balance to the New-Creation hope, per the closing note of 07_semantic_analysis.md ch.66.

§2. Section B — Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations (Romans-Isaiah Bridge)

The following rules are binding on all Phase 2 generation touching any passage in §1 above or any passage already identified as a Romans-Isaiah bridge in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md §0. They extend, and do not modify, the enforcement mechanism already fixed in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md §2-3.

R6redemption / Redeemerkev txhiv (noun, Romans-inherited) / Tus Txhiv (title, B14)Isaiah 41:14, 43:14, 59:20 ⟷ Romans 11:26-27The title form Tus Txhiv is Isaiah-specific (B14) but must never contradict the underlying Romans kev txhiv root; both must be taught as the same redemptive act.
R7will of GodVajtswv lub siab nyiamIsaiah 40:13, 53:10 ⟷ Romans 11:34; 1 Corinthians 2:16Identical; Isaiah 53:10’s usage carries the heaviest doctrinal weight (see §1 core-passage note) and governs the phrase’s emotional register wherever reused.

§4. Section D — Messianic Typology Thread Summary

The following typological threads run continuously across the whole book and must be taught as unified doctrinal arcs, not isolated proof-texts, in any Phase 2 lesson sequence:

  1. The Davidic Royal Son — Isaiah 7:14 → 9:6-7 → 11:1-5 → 55:3 (Acts 13:34) → culminates in the NT’s application to Jesus as the eternal Davidic King (Luke 1:32-33). Governing Hmong terms: B3, B4, TM kingdom_of_god.
  2. The Servant of the LORD — Isaiah 42:1-4 → 49:1-6 → 50:4-9 → 52:13-53:12 → 61:1-2, moving from corporate-Israel referent (41:8-9) to an individual, sinless, substitutionary, resurrected figure culminating in Jesus’ own self-identification (Luke 4:18-19; Acts 8:32-35). Governing Hmong terms: B6, B7, B8, B9, B10, and the entire core-passage apparatus in 07_semantic_analysis.md §1.
  3. The Redeemer/Kinsman-Go’el — Isaiah 41:14 → 43:14 → 54:5,8 → 59:20 (Romans 11:26-27) → 63:16, presenting God/Messiah as the covenant kinsman who buys back His people from bondage. Governing term: B14.
  4. The Stone/Cornerstone — Isaiah 8:14 and 28:16 converge in Romans 9:33/10:11 and 1 Peter 2:6,8 into a single composite Messianic stone-typology, requiring rendering identity per Rule R3.
  5. New Exodus — Isaiah 40:3, 43:16-19, 51:9-11, 63:11-13 recast the Exodus 14-15 deliverance as the pattern for eschatological restoration, culminating in the Gospel-writers’ application of Isaiah 40:3 to John the Baptist as forerunner of the ultimate New-Exodus Deliverer.
  6. Holiness → Atonement → New Creation — Isaiah 6 (God’s unapproachable holiness) necessitates Isaiah 53 (the Servant’s atoning death) which alone makes possible Isaiah 65-66 (God dwelling with a purified people in a renewed cosmos) — the book’s own macro-argument, mirrored in the doctrine sequence assigned to this curriculum.

§5. Full-Book Coverage Confirmation

All 66 chapters of Isaiah are represented in §3 above, either with full cross-reference detail or with an explicit “reviewed, no new cross-reference beyond tabulated framework” notation (chapters 15-18, 20-23, 32-33, 36-39 partial, 46-48). No chapter has been silently omitted, consistent with the full-book-coverage mandate governing this pipeline.
