Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Core Glossary

Philippians — Core Glossary (Hmong Language Package)

This glossary lists every load-bearing theological term surfaced in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, covering the whole book of Philippians chapter by chapter. Terms marked [Inherited] reuse the exact Romans-baseline TM rendering verbatim and carry forward the same risk tier, per the hard rule that established renderings must never be altered. Terms marked [NEW] have no prior TM entry and are proposed here PENDING TM-REVISION per the baseline’s escalation rules (§9 of 12_ai_translation_requirements.md); none may be treated as permanent until formally reviewed.

Risk tier definitions (identical to baseline): Critical / High / Medium / Low — see bible_term_registry.json → registry_metadata.risk_tier_definitions.

B3Same mind / one mind (unity)τὸ αὐτὸ φρονεῖν / to auto phroneinib lub siab ib lub ntswsMedium32Existing Hmong unity idiom; do not flatten to mere social harmony devoid of the Christ-pattern of 2:5-11.
B4Of one soul / in full accordσύμψυχοι / symphysoisib koom ua ib lub siabMedium32Use siab, never ntsuj plig, to avoid multi-soul animistic overtones.
B5Humility / to humble oneselfταπεινοφροσύνη, ταπεινόω / tapeinophrosynē, tapeinoōkev txo hwv siab / txo nws tus kheejHigh1, 32Collision with Hmong honor-culture loss-of-face (poob ntsej muag); must be taught as voluntary, Christ-modeled, honor-preceding self-lowering.
B6Form of Godμορφὴ θεοῦ / morphē theoutus yam ntxwv ntawm VajtswvCritical12Full, eternal deity of Christ; must not suggest a temporary spirit-medium’s borrowed form.
B7Equality with Godἴσα θεῷ / isa theōkev sib npaug nrog VajtswvCritical12Must never be softened into a lesser/derivative status (parallels “diminished-Sonship” forbidden pattern).
B8Emptied himself (Kenosis)ἑαυτὸν ἐκένωσεν / heauton ekenōsennws muab nws tus kheej ua kom khoobCritical12HIGHEST-RISK TERM: must not imply Christ ceased being God, and must not echo shamanic trance/spirit-journey “emptied body” imagery. Mandatory teaching note every occurrence.
B9Form of a servantμορφὴν δούλου / morphēn douloutus yam ntxwv ntawm ib tug qhevCritical12Combines B6 with inherited qhev (A8); intensified because subject is the divine Son.
B10Likeness of menὁμοιώματι ἀνθρώπων / homoiōmati anthrōpōnzoo yam li tib neeg tiag tiagMedium-High12tiag tiag (truly) qualifier mandatory to foreclose docetic/spirit-appearance misreading.

B12Every knee shall bowπᾶν γόνυ κάμψῃ / pan gony kampsētxhua txhia lub hauv caug yuav txhosMedium12”Under the earth” scope must be taught as Christ’s supremacy over spirit-categories, not equivalence with them.

B14Saints / holy onesἅγιοι / hagioicov ntseeg dawb huvHigh3 (church identity)1Shares flagged dawb huv root with baseline sanctification entry (folk ritual-purity collision); teach as Spirit-conferred status, not ritual purity.

B16Partnership in the gospelκοινωνία εἰς τὸ εὐαγγέλιον / koinōnia eis to euangelionkev koom tes hauv Txoj Moo ZooHigh71, 4Central term for Doctrine 7; teach as active co-participation (financial/spiritual/suffering), not passive membership.
B17Day of Christἡμέρα Χριστοῦ / hēmera ChristouHnub uas Yexus Khetos yuav rov qab losMedium8 (eschatological goal)1Comprehension-level, no collision.
B18Fruit of righteousness (ethical sense)καρπὸς δικαιοσύνης / karpos dikaiosynēscov txiv ntawm kev ncaj ncees uas Yexus Khetos pubMedium41Must be kept distinct from the forensic-imputation sense (A17-A18) to avoid works-righteousness drift.
B19Bonds/Imprisonmentδεσμά / desmakev raug kaw (txim)Low-Medium21Concrete referent, no collision; sets the letter’s suffering context.
B20To live is Christ, to die is gainτὸ ζῆν Χριστός, τὸ ἀποθανεῖν κέρδοςkuv txoj sia yog Khetos, thiab kuv txoj kev tuag yog qhov tau ntxivHigh1, 21Collision risk with Hmong ancestral-reunion afterlife framework; must anchor explicitly to “with Christ” (not generic ancestral company).
B21To depart and be with Christἀναλῦσαι καὶ σὺν Χριστῷ εἶναιtawm ntawm lub cev mus nrog Khetos nyobHigh1, 21Same collision as B20; “nrog Khetos” qualifier mandatory.

B25Work out your salvation with fear and tremblingκατεργάζεσθε μετὰ φόβου καὶ τρόμουntshai thiab tshee hnyo (+ A27)Critical4, 52Must be taught as sanctification’s response, never salvation’s ground — coordinate with Doctrine 4.
B26Poured out as a libationσπένδομαι / spendomairaug hliv tawm ua khoom fijHigh1, 22Direct collision with Hmong ancestor-libation ritual (hliv dej/cawv rau yawg koob); must anchor to Paul’s self-giving for the gospel, not ancestor appeasement.
B27Citizenship (noun: commonwealth)πολίτευμα / politeumapeb lub tebchaws yog nyob saum ntuj ceeb tsheejCritical63Tebchaws bound to clan/ancestral-land identity; mandatory “already/not yet” dual-citizenship teaching note; bridge via A35 (Nceeg Vaj).
B28Savior (noun)σωτήρ / sōtērtus Cawm SeejHigh63Noun form of A27; same Christ-anchoring discipline required.
B29Fellowship of his sufferingsκοινωνία παθημάτων αὐτοῦ / koinōnia pathēmatōn autoukev koom tes hauv Khetos txoj kev raug kev txom nyemCritical/High1, 2, 73Compound term linking B1/B16 (partnership) and B23 (suffering); same anti-fatalism teaching required.
B30Rubbish/loss (crude register)ζημία, σκύβαλα / zēmia, skybalakev poob qis… khib nyiabMedium43Register-mismatch: Greek is crude (dung); formal Hmong register softens to “garbage/rubbish” — teaching note may explain stronger literal force without vulgar text.
B31Knowing Christγνῶσις, γινώσκω / gnōsis, ginōskōkev paub Yexus KhetosLow-Medium4, 83Relational/experiential knowing; comprehension-level distinction from generic intellectual knowledge.

B36Their god is their bellyἡ κοιλία / hē koilialawv tus vajtswv yog lawv lub plabMedium-High63Flag for native-speaker review — potential unintended resonance with food-offering-to-spirits practice; avoid comic/dismissive tone.
B37Earthly-mindedτὰ ἐπίγεια φρονοῦντες / ta epigeia phronountesxav txog tej uas nyob hauv ntiajteb xwbLow-Medium63No collision.

B42Guard your hearts and mindsφρουρήσει τὰς καρδίας… καὶ τὰ νοήματαtsom kwm nej lub siab thiab tej kev xavMedium54CAUTION: νόημα = “thought,” not “spirit” — do NOT use ntsuj plig here.
B43Think on these things (ordinary sense)λογίζεσθε / logizesthexav txog (NOT suav tias)High4, 54Same Greek lemma as A22 (reckon/impute); mandatory lexical divergence from the reflex TM formula to prevent confusing this ethical exhortation with the justification doctrine.

Critical Risk Terms

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: Vaj Ntsuj Plig
Transliteration: pneuma hagion
Doctrine: Unity and Humility in the Church
Rejected alternatives: bare ntsuj plig — forbidden for this referent

Inherited from Romans package. ‘Vaj’ prefix mandatory at every occurrence, most notably within the compound koinōnia pneumatos rendering (see fellowship_of_the_spirit, this file) at Filipis 2:1.

Grace

Approved rendering: txiaj ntsim
Transliteration: charis
Doctrine: Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment
Rejected alternatives: koob hmoov — PERMANENTLY FORBIDDEN

Inherited from Romans package. Used in the greeting (1:2) and, critically, at 1:29 where suffering itself is described as granted grace — see suffering_granted_as_gift below.

Flesh Neutral Descent Body

Approved rendering: lub cev nqaij tawv
Transliteration: sarx (neutral)
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Rejected alternatives: bare nqaij used unmarked for both senses

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 3:5 for Paul’s Israelite ethnic lineage; must be kept lexically distinct from flesh_moral_sinful_nature within the same two-verse span (3:3-5).

Flesh Moral Sinful Nature

Approved rendering: kev xav/kev ua raws li lub cev nqaij tawv
Transliteration: sarx (moral)
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Rejected alternatives: bare nqaij tawv reused unmarked from neutral sense

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 3:3-4 for misplaced confidence in physical/religious credentials; flag both flesh senses explicitly per verse since they occur in immediate succession.

Righteousness Of God Righteous

Approved rendering: Vajtswv txoj kev ncaj ncees / tus ncaj ncees
Transliteration: dikaiosynē theou / dikaios
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘kev ncaj ncees’ without reckoning qualifier

Inherited from Romans package. Central to 3:9; must always co-occur with justify_reckon_as_righteous. Also underlies the ethical-fruit sense at 1:11 (see fruit_of_righteousness_ethical) which must be kept distinct.

Justify Reckon As Righteous

Approved rendering: ua kom ncaj ncees / raug suav tias ncaj ncees
Transliteration: dikaioō / logizomai
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Rejected alternatives: ‘ua zoo’ (do good) framing

Inherited from Romans package. Fixed accounting-metaphor phrase for imputation at 3:9; kept distinct from fruit_of_righteousness_ethical (1:11) and from the ordinary-cognition sense at 4:8 (see think_on_these_things_ordinary_sense).

Law Mosaic Divine

Approved rendering: Txoj Kevcai (ntawm Vajtswv / Mauxes)
Transliteration: nomos
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘Txoj Kevcai’ without qualifier, imported loanword

Inherited from Romans package. Qualifier mandatory at every occurrence in chapter 3’s dense Law-vocabulary concentration.

Reckon Impute

Approved rendering: suav / suav tias
Transliteration: logizomai
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law

Inherited from Romans package. Forensic-accounting verb underlying 3:9’s doctrinal argument. Must be kept terminologically distinct from the ordinary-cognition sense at 4:8 and the ethical-regard sense at 2:3, both of which use different Hmong renderings by design (see think_on_these_things_ordinary_sense and consider_others_more_significant).

Form Of God

Approved rendering: tus yam ntxwv ntawm Vajtswv
Transliteration: morphē theou
Doctrine: The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)
Rejected alternatives: any wording implying a spirit-medium’s borrowed appearance

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 2:6. Load-bearing full-deity term; mandatory teaching note establishing full, eternal, unchanged deity, never mere resemblance/representation. Part of the closed morphē/schēma fenced set (see form_of_a_servant, likeness_of_men, outward_form_appearance, transform_to_a_glorious_body); no sixth ad hoc periphrasis permitted without TM-revision review.

Equality With God

Approved rendering: kev sib npaug nrog Vajtswv
Transliteration: isa theō
Doctrine: The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)
Rejected alternatives: any softened/lesser-status rendering — forbidden, diminished-Sonship pattern

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 2:6. Must never be softened to a derivative status.

Emptied Himself Kenosis

Approved rendering: nws muab nws tus kheej ua kom khoob
Transliteration: heauton ekenōsen
Doctrine: The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)
Rejected alternatives: any transliterated loanword — would forfeit necessary contrast-teaching purchase

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 2:7. HIGHEST-RISK TERM in the Philippians package. ‘Khoob’ (hollow/empty) resonates with a shaman’s (txiv neeb) vacated body during trance/spirit-journey (ua neeb). MANDATORY teaching note at every occurrence, with zero exceptions: Christ’s self-emptying is voluntary addition of humanity and servanthood while retaining full deity, never a departure or vacating of his person. Must always be taught as a single unit with form_of_god and equality_with_god (deity retained → humanity added → servant-form assumed).

Form Of A Servant

Approved rendering: tus yam ntxwv ntawm ib tug qhev
Transliteration: morphēn doulou
Doctrine: The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 2:7. Combines form_of_god’s morphē vocabulary with the inherited servant_slave_doulos term; intensified because the divine Son, not merely a believer, takes this form.

Highly Exalted

Approved rendering: Vajtswv tsa nws mus rau qib siab dhau ntawm txhua yam
Transliteration: hyperypsōsen
Doctrine: The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)
Rejected alternatives: ‘promoted’/‘honored among many’ framing — rejected, must be superlative and unique

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 2:9. Structural hinge of the humiliation-then-exaltation pattern; must always be taught paired with humility_self_humbling.

Suffering Granted As Gift

Approved rendering: kev raug kev txom nyem (nrog txiaj ntsim)
Transliteration: paschein / charizomai
Doctrine: Joy in Suffering and Imprisonment
Rejected alternatives: any hmoov (fate) vocabulary — permanently forbidden

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 1:29. Directly inverts the Hmong traditional causal chain (suffering = ancestral/spirit displeasure); requires explicit contrast teaching parallel in force to the baseline’s wrath_of_god and election_choose cautions. Never render with hmoov vocabulary.

Work Out Salvation Fear Trembling

Approved rendering: ntshai thiab tshee hnyo (nrog kev cawm dim)
Transliteration: katergazesthe meta phobou kai tromou
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 2:12. Mandatory teaching note: sanctification’s effortful response to a salvation already secured (2:13), never salvation’s ground — must be coordinated with justify_reckon_as_righteous to prevent contradiction with justification-by-faith-alone.

Citizenship Noun Commonwealth

Approved rendering: peb lub tebchaws yog nyob saum ntuj ceeb tsheej
Transliteration: politeuma
Doctrine: Citizenship in Heaven

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 3:20. ‘Tebchaws’ is deeply bound to Hmong clan-and-ancestral-land identity; risks being heard as demanding abandonment of ethnic identity, or as a purely abstract metaphor with no present-tense force. Mandatory already/not-yet dual-citizenship teaching note; must always be introduced VIA the inherited kingdom_of_god bridge term, never cold.

Contentment

Approved rendering: kev txaus siab (rau txhua yam)
Transliteration: autarkēs
Doctrine: Contentment in All Circumstances
Rejected alternatives: any hmoov (fate) vocabulary or framing — permanently forbidden

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 4:11. Must never be recast as passive resignation to a fixed, spirit-assigned lot; teach as active, learned, Christ-empowered equanimity (4:13), identical forbidden-substitution discipline to the Romans baseline’s election_choose/foreknow_predestine.

High Risk Terms

Human Spirit Soul

Approved rendering: ntsuj plig
Transliteration: pneuma (anthropological)
Doctrine: General / Cross-cutting
Rejected alternatives: Vaj Ntsuj Plig — forbidden for this referent

Inherited from Romans package. Used at Filipis 4:23’s closing benediction (‘grace be with your spirit’); must NEVER receive the ‘Vaj’ prefix here, since the referent is the believers’ own human spirit, not the Holy Spirit — the opposite discipline from fellowship_of_the_spirit above.

Servant Slave Doulos

Approved rendering: qhev
Transliteration: doulos
Doctrine: The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)
Rejected alternatives: koom tes (co-worker/partner) — rejected softening

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 1:1 (Paul/Timothy’s self-designation) and intensified at 2:7 as the Greek morphēn doulou combines this term with the new form_of_a_servant entry, since it is the divine Son, not merely a believer, taking this form.

Power

Approved rendering: hwjchim
Transliteration: dynamis
Doctrine: Contentment in All Circumstances
Rejected alternatives: bare, unqualified hwjchim — FORBIDDEN

Inherited from Romans package. Always qualified as ‘Vajtswv hwjchim’ or ‘Khetos hwjchim,’ never bare. Underlies both name_above_every_name (2:9) and strengthened_by_christ (4:13) below.

Salvation Save

Approved rendering: kev cawm dim / cawm
Transliteration: sōtēria / sōzō
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Rejected alternatives: unanchored ‘dim’ parallel to shamanic soul-rescue

Inherited from Romans package. Always anchored explicitly to Yexus Khetos; underlies work_out_salvation_fear_trembling (2:12) and savior_noun (3:20) below.

Living Sacrifice

Approved rendering: khoom fij uas muaj txoj sia nyob
Transliteration: thysia zōsa
Doctrine: Partnership in the Gospel
Rejected alternatives: unqualified ‘fij’ identical to ancestor/spirit offerings

Inherited from Romans package. The ‘fij’ sacrificial-offering domain caution is extended in Philippians to two further distinct senses: poured_out_as_a_libation (2:17) and sacrifice_acceptable_pleasing_to_god (4:18, financial-gift sense). All four senses (atonement, ethical devotion, libation, financial-gift) must be kept individually disambiguated.

Worship Serve Cultic

Approved rendering: pehawm / pab teev
Transliteration: latreuō
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Rejected alternatives: bare, unanchored pehawm — FORBIDDEN

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 3:3, ‘we… worship by the Spirit of God,’ contrasted with confidence in the flesh. Object of ‘pehawm’ must always be stated.

In Christ Union Formula

Approved rendering: nyob hauv Khetos
Transliteration: en Christō
Doctrine: The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)
Rejected alternatives: bare spatial ‘hauv’ with no fixed co-text

Fellowship Of The Spirit

Approved rendering: kev koom tes ntawm Vaj Ntsuj Plig
Transliteration: koinōnia pneumatos

Humility Self Humbling

Approved rendering: kev txo hwv siab / nws txo nws tus kheej
Transliteration: tapeinophrosynē / tapeinoō
Doctrine: Unity and Humility in the Church

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 2:3, 2:8. Collides with Hmong honor-culture (poob ntsej muag, shameful loss of face); mandatory catechetical note distinguishing voluntary, secure, Christ-modeled self-lowering (which precedes exaltation, 2:9) from involuntary shame. Must always be taught paired with highly_exalted within the same lesson unit.

Transliteration: hagioi
Doctrine: Unity and Humility in the Church

Approved rendering: kev koom tes hauv Txoj Moo Zoo
Transliteration: koinōnia eis to euangelion
Doctrine: Partnership in the Gospel

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 1:5, 4:15. Central term for this doctrine; teach as active co-participation (financial, prayer, suffering), not passive membership. Approved rendering: kuv txoj sia yog Khetos, thiab kuv txoj kev tuag yog qhov tau ntxiv
Transliteration: to zēn Christos, to apothanein kerdos

Think On These Things Ordinary Sense

Approved rendering: xav txog
Transliteration: logizesthe
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law
Rejected alternatives: ‘suav tias’ — forbidden here, would smuggle forensic-imputation vocabulary into an ordinary ethical exhortation

NEW — PENDING TM-REVISION. Filipis 4:8. Same Greek lemma as reckon_impute (logizomai) but entirely ordinary sense here; deliberate lexical divergence mandatory to protect Doctrine 4’s forensic boundary.

Transliteration: pan gony kampsē
Doctrine: The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)
