Job — hmong
TRI knowledge bundle for Job (hmong).
Executive Summary
Job — Executive Summary (Hmong Language Package, Baseline v1.0)
Why it matters
The Hmong-speaking discipleship audience for this curriculum lives inside an active, present-day worldview — animism, ancestor veneration, shamanism (txiv neeb), and fate (hmoov) — that overlaps the book of Job’s own subject matter more directly than almost any other book in the pipeline so far. Job is not a historical debate for this audience; its central claims (suffering is not always ritual payback, God’s power is not a bigger shamanic power, prosperity is not proof of spirit-favor, a coming Redeemer will bodily vindicate the sufferer) either confirm or directly confront live beliefs. Getting the Hmong rendering wrong here does not just create comprehension gaps — in several places it would invert the doctrine outright. This package’s core passage, Job 19:23-27 (“I know that my Redeemer lives…”), is the single highest cumulative-risk five-verse span identified across both the Romans and Job Language Packages to date.
Key findings
- 74 terms are now fixed in the Job translation memory (28 inherited verbatim from the Romans baseline + 46 newly surfaced in this book), covering all 42 chapters — no chapter was silently skipped; 15 chapters were explicitly logged as “reviewed, reinforces existing terms” per the full-book-coverage mandate.
- 33 of those 74 terms are Critical or High risk (14 Critical, 19 High) — nearly half the entire glossary — reflecting Job’s unusually dense concentration of collision-prone vocabulary (Satan/Xatas, Sheol/tub tuag teb, the Redeemer/tus txhiv, Leviathan, oath-language/kev twv lus, prosperity/vam meej).
- All 7 assigned doctrines are Critical or High risk — 4 Critical (The Problem of Suffering and Divine Justice; The Sovereignty and Incomprehensibility of God; The Mediator/Redeemer Hope; Satan’s Limited Power under God’s Sovereignty) and 3 High (Retribution Theology Challenged; Faith and Integrity amid Suffering; Repentance and Restoration). There is no Medium/Low-risk doctrine in this package, matching the Romans baseline’s pattern.
- Four genuine vocabulary gaps were identified where Hmong has no existing lexeme at all (non-retributive suffering, divine incomprehensibility-as-distinct-from-greatness, forensic vindication of the wrongly accused, permission-bounded hostile agency) — each resolved with a fixed, documented periphrasis rather than a coined neologism, consistent with the Romans baseline’s established methodology.
- The Mediator/Redeemer Hope doctrine converges the highest concentration of Critical-tier terms of any doctrine in either Language Package:
tus txhiv(Redeemer),yuav sawv saum lub ntiajteb(stand upon the earth), andhauv kuv lub cev nqaij tawv(in my flesh) all sit inside the five verses of the core passage alone.
Risks
- Highest-priority risk:
tus txhiv(Redeemer, 19:25) being taught or generated in isolation from vv.26-27. The term has a strong, positive Hmong cultural bridge (clan kinsman-redeemer) that actively invites an incomplete reading — this is the most likely silent failure mode in the whole package, because the shortened reading isn’t wrong, just radically under-weighted. - Second-priority risk:
vam meej(prosperity of the wicked, ch.21) presented as academic ancient debate rather than direct confrontation of the live, contemporary Hmong hmoov/spirit-favor prosperity belief — this is the single most culturally active doctrinal collision in the entire book. - Structural risk:
Xatasdrifting toward genericdabvocabulary in any unguarded paraphrase or simplification, which would silently invert Satan’s-Limited-Power doctrine by relocating him from “subordinate, permission-bound court member” into the populous, autonomous, ritually-negotiable spirit category. - Compliance-load risk: the new
Shaddaifixed collocation (~31 occurrences across the dialogue speeches) multiplies the Romans baseline’s already-flagged “never bare hwjchim” discipline, making accidental truncation under space constraints (titles, quiz options) statistically more likely here than anywhere in Romans. - All identified risks are Critical/High-tier and therefore route to mandatory human theologian review before publication — no automated-review bypass exists anywhere in this package.
Opportunities
- Hmong clan-based redemption and dispute-mediation customs (kinsman debt-redemption, elder-mediated disputes) provide a genuinely positive, ready-made cultural bridge for the entire Mediator/Redeemer Hope thread (chs.9, 16, 19, 33) — the task is deepening, not correcting, the audience’s existing intuitions.
- Job’s widow/orphan social-justice pairing (chs.22, 24, 29, 31) and its master-servant equal-dignity argument (ch.31) positively resonate with existing Hmong clan-obligation ethics, offering low-risk reinforcement material.
- The book’s climactic reversal — God’s wrath falling on the confident retribution-theologians rather than the sufferer (42:7-8) — is a uniquely powerful, culturally targeted corrective precisely because the friends’ worldview parallels a live Hmong belief; this is curriculum gold if taught explicitly as confrontation rather than left implicit.
Recommended actions
- Enforce the
tus txhiv+ 19:26-27 unit rule structurally (never generate/publish the Redeemer term without its co-text) — highest priority given its ranking as the single most likely silent failure mode. - Require explicit contrastive-teaching language at every occurrence of
vam meej(ch.21) andpub rov qab(42:10-12), naming the parallel Hmong belief being corrected rather than assuming the correction is self-evident. - Route all content touching any of the 7 doctrines (100% of the doctrinal footprint) to mandatory human theologian review before publication, per
assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json’s routing rule — budget review capacity accordingly, since this package has no automated-review-eligible doctrine. - Prioritize reviewer attention using the ranked risk list in
analysis/06_linguistic_gap_analysis.md§4 (12 items, tus txhivisolation ranked #1) rather than reviewing chapters in canonical order. - Carry forward all Romans-baseline forbidden substitutions unchanged and adopt this package’s 9 new Job-specific forbidden substitutions (§3.2 of
analysis/12_ai_translation_requirements.md) into any Phase 2 tooling’s validation layer before generation begins.
