Doctrine Analysis

1 Peter — Full Doctrine Matrix (Phase 1, Step 4)

Purpose

This document is the full-book doctrine matrix for the 1 Peter curriculum in Kannada, produced under PRD Phase 1 Step 4. It is generated to be fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: same 30 doctrines, same names, same risk tiers, same review routing. This matrix adds the supporting-passage detail, translation-risk reasoning, and full chapter-by-chapter coverage sweep that the registry’s compact JSON does not display in narrative form.

Coverage mandate: every chapter of 1 Peter (1–5) is surveyed below. No chapter or major section is silently omitted. Where a section contributes no new doctrine beyond what is already tabulated, that section is explicitly marked “reviewed — no new doctrinal risk” rather than skipped.

Risk tiers and review routing follow the baseline Romans Language Package definitions without modification:

  • Critical — Human theologian review required for every occurrence.
  • High — Human theologian review required.
  • Medium — Native speaker review recommended.
  • Low — Automated review sufficient.

Part A — Full Doctrine Matrix (All 30 Doctrines, Whole Book)

#DoctrineSupporting Passages (1 Peter)RiskTranslation Risk (Kannada-specific)Review Routing
1The Living Hope of the Resurrection1:3–5, 1:21CriticalCore curriculum doctrine. ಜೀವಂತ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆ must retain content specifically secured by ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ (never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ). Risk of flattening into generic ಆಶಾಭಾವನೆ (wishful optimism) or absorption into the fatalistic ಹಣೆಬರಹ idiom, both of which strip the phrase of its resurrection-grounded certainty.Human theologian
2Regeneration / New Birth1:3, 1:23Criticalಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸಿದನು / ನೂತನ ಜನ್ಮ must NEVER render as ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ. A once-for-all monergistic new-creation event, not another turn of the birth–death–rebirth cycle, and not a step toward eventual Aikya-style dissolution of the self.Human theologian
3Inheritance and Assurance1:4–5, 5:10Highಬಾಧ್ಯತೆ must stay anchored to sonship, not a merit- or karma-accumulated estate. ಅಕ್ಷಯ must be avoided for “imperishable” (Sanskrit-loaded ritual/karmic-merit associations, cf. Akshaya Tritiya) — use ನಾಶವಾಗದ. ಕಾಪಾಡಲ್ಪಡುವ (guarded) must convey active, ongoing divine protection, distinguished from the incremental, uncertain shatsthala ascent.Human theologian
4Providence and Election1:1–2, 1:20HighGod’s personal foreknowing/choosing (ದೇವರ ಪೂರ್ವಜ್ಞಾನ) must not be absorbed into ಹಣೆಬರಹ (fatalism) or ಕರ್ಮದ ನಿಯಮ (impersonal karma-law), both common everyday Kannada explanatory frames.Human theologian
5Divine Calling1:15, 2:9, 2:21, 5:10HighGod is always the initiator of the call — out of darkness into light, and into suffering-then-glory — distinct from the devotee-initiated shatsthala ascent and from a Haridasa devotee’s self-chosen “dasa” identity.Human theologian
6Grace1:2, 2:19–20, 4:10, 5:5, 5:12HighStands against both the general Hindu karma-merit economy and the Lingayat kayaka-dasoha ethic of standing built through disciplined sacred work. 2:19–20 uniquely calls unjust, patiently-endured suffering itself “gracious” (χάρις) — must be preserved as God’s favorable regard, never a merit the sufferer has earned.Human theologian
7Faith1:5, 1:7–9, 5:9Highನಂಬಿಕೆ = personal trust in the unseen but believed-in Christ (1:8), distinguished from ಭಕ್ತಿ, the devotional surrender directed toward Krishna (Haridasa) or Shiva/ishtalinga (Lingayat).Human theologian
8Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake1:6–7, 3:14, 3:17, 4:12–16, 4:19CriticalCore curriculum doctrine. ನೀತಿಗಾಗಿ ಬಾಧೆ must never collapse into ಧರ್ಮ (caste-duty/cosmic-order framing). ವಿಧವಿಧವಾದ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳು (various trials) must be distinguished from the karma-consequence framework common in Kannada folk explanations of misfortune (suffering as payback for past-deed demerit).Human theologian
9Participatory Suffering with Christ2:21, 4:1, 4:13HighBelievers’ identificational, experiential sharing in Christ’s sufferings (ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಬಾಧೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲುಗಾರಿಕೆ) must be kept theologically distinct from Christ’s own unique, atoning, substitutionary suffering (3:18) — related but never conflated doctrines.Human theologian
10Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering1:18–19, 2:24, 3:18CriticalCore curriculum doctrine. Sacrificial-system/Isaiah 53 background required for an audience with low OT literacy. “Only once” (ಒಂದೇ ಸಲ) must be preserved to prevent reading this as a repeatable ritual sacrifice; ರಕ್ತದ ಚಿಮುಕಿಸುವಿಕೆ must avoid the Vedic ritual term ಪ್ರೋಕ್ಷಣೆ, which would recast Christ’s blood as a repeatable purificatory substance.Human theologian
11The Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood2:4–10HighCore curriculum doctrine. ಯಾಜಕ required, never ಪುರೋಹಿತ (caste-inherited Brahmin ritual priest) — the whole point is universal, non-caste priesthood. “Chosen race” (ಆಯ್ಕೆಯ ಜನಾಂಗ) must never render as ಜಾತಿ (birth-caste), which would recast gospel-election as a new birth-caste. “Living stone” risks assimilation to the Lingayat ishtalinga (wearable personal Shiva-stone) rather than the intended OT builder’s-cornerstone metaphor (Ps 118:22; Isa 28:16).Human theologian
12Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance2:13–17, 2:18–25, 3:1–7HighCore curriculum doctrine. ಅಧೀನರಾಗಿರಿ must be taught as a freely-chosen, Christ-modeled witness response, not fatalistic acceptance of unchangeable caste-style social order nor a works-based means of securing standing before God. “Gentle and quiet spirit” (3:4) risks collapsing into culturally normative feminine social deference rather than active, Christ-like inner strength.Human theologian
13Holiness in Conduct1:14–16, 2:11–12, 3:1–2, 3:16HighCore curriculum doctrine. ನಡತೆ (conduct) must be the visible fruit of already-given holy status, never its merit-earning cause — paralleling the baseline’s grace-vs-kayaka-dasoha distinction. ಭಯಭಕ್ತಿ (reverent fear) must be filial awe before a righteous Father-Judge, not superstitious fear of capricious spirits as in Bhuta Kola propitiation.Human theologian
14Elders and Humility5:1–5HighCore curriculum doctrine. Eldership (ಸಭೆಯ ಹಿರಿಯರು) must be distinguished from hereditary caste/village-council eldership and from the Lingayat ಜಂಗಮ office. ದೀನಮನಸ್ಸು (humility) risks being heard as mere social politeness or caste/gender-hierarchy deference rather than the mutual, freely-chosen, Christ-modeled self-lowering commanded of “all of you.”Human theologian
15Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits3:18–22, 4:6CriticalCore curriculum doctrine; highest-priority cultural flag in this curriculum, exceeding the baseline’s ordinary Critical bar. Coastal Karnataka’s Bhuta Kola / Daiva ārādhane tradition treats spirits as approachable and communicable-with via ritual mediums. Risks Christ being read as functioning like a spirit-medium, or the passage being taken as validation of ancestral-spirit communication/propitiation. Must be taught as a unique, one-time proclamation of triumph over rebellious spiritual powers by the risen Christ — never a repeatable practice. Mandatory dedicated translator’s note at every occurrence, in addition to standard Critical-tier routing.Human theologian (mandatory, dedicated note every occurrence)
16Lordship of Christ1:3, 3:15, 3:22Critical3:15’s “sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts” is 1 Peter’s own equivalent of Romans 10:9 and must be rendered with identical, non-negotiable exclusivity — never softened toward the Veerashaiva Aikya picture of the devotee’s destiny being to merge into and lose distinction from the Lord.Human theologian
17Deity and Glory of Christ1:11, 1:21, 3:22Highಮಹಿಮೆ must avoid light-only imagery that could merge with mystical-illumination associations of the Aikya path. Christ’s supremacy over angels, authorities, and powers (ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ, never ಶಕ್ತಿ) must be read as undiminished divine authority, not one honored spiritual figure among many venerated powers.Human theologian
18Resurrection of Christ1:3, 3:18, 3:21Criticalಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ required, never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ. The disputed “made alive in the spirit” phrase (3:18) must be explicitly anchored to this same bodily, historical, once-for-all resurrection, not read as a merely inward/mystical experience.Human theologian
19Sanctification1:2, 1:15–16, 4:1–2HighThe Spirit’s ongoing sanctifying work (ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ) must be distinguished from the disciplined, self-directed ascent through the Lingayat shatsthala stages, however much outward ethical behavior overlaps.Human theologian
20Holy Spirit and Inspiration of Scripture1:10–12, 1:23–25, 4:11HighNever ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ for the Spirit (impersonal Vedantic Universal Self). “Oracles of God” must never render as ವಚನ — the revered technical term for the Lingayat Sharana poet-saints’ devotional-philosophical corpus (Vachana Sahitya), genuinely treasured but categorically distinct from God-breathed Scripture.Human theologian
21Household Relationships3:1–7Highκύριος applied to a human husband (3:6, “Sarah calling Abraham lord”) must be rendered ಒಡೆಯ, NOT ಕರ್ತ, preserving ಕರ್ತ’s exclusive reservation for Christ’s divine Lordship. Submission here must be read as freely-chosen Christian witness, not culturally normative gender hierarchy alone.Human theologian
22Spiritual Gifts and Mutual Service4:10–11Mediumಆತ್ಮಿಕ ವರಗಳು must be used as the full compound; never ವರ or ಸಿದ್ಧಿ alone, which would suggest a merit-earned or yogic self-attained ability rather than Spirit-given enablement for serving others.Native speaker review
23Assurance of Salvation and Perseverance1:5, 5:4, 5:10HighAssurance rests on God’s own settled, active protection and stabilizing action (guard/restore/confirm/strengthen/establish), distinguished from the incremental, uncertain progress of the Lingayat shatsthala path toward Aikya.Human theologian
24Spiritual Warfare and the Adversary5:8–9HighPrefer the transliterated proper name ಸೈತಾನ over generic ಪಿಶಾಚ/ದೆವ್ವ, which in Kannada usage — especially the coastal Bhuta Kola / spirit-belief context — denote a broad category of local, placatable, ritually-manageable spirits. Satan must be the singular, supremely dangerous cosmic Adversary resisted through faith, never appeased or ritually managed.Human theologian
25Baptism and the Appeal of Conscience3:20–21MediumThe text’s own qualifying clause distinguishing baptism from ritual purification must be preserved clearly, since ceremonial ritual bathing (snana) for purification in sacred rivers is a widespread and meaningful Hindu practice that could otherwise be conflated with ದೀಕ್ಷಾಸ್ನಾನ.Native speaker review
26Love and Mutual Care in the Church1:22, 4:8–9Medium”Love covers a multitude of sins” must not be taught as human love atoning for sin (which belongs only to Christ’s substitutionary blood, 3:18); it names patient, forgiving love among believers, not a competing source of atonement.Native speaker review
27Judgment Beginning at the Household of God4:17–19MediumMust be read as purifying discipline within God’s own family, not punitive condemnation; ನಂಬಿಗಸ್ತ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಕರ್ತ keeps trust in a personal, faithful Maker distinguished from the impersonal, self-operating cosmic order (karma/fate).Native speaker review
28Christian Identity as Sojourners and Exiles1:1, 1:17, 2:11MediumAvoid ಯಾತ್ರಿಕ (“pilgrim”), which carries strong associations with Hindu pilgrimage practice (yatra to a sacred site) rather than the NT sense of displaced, homeward-looking exile identity in a world that is not one’s true home.Native speaker review
29God’s Faithful Providence Amid Suffering4:19, 5:7MediumTrust in God’s personal, faithful governance amid suffering must be distinguished from resignation to ಹಣೆಬರಹ (fatalism) or the impersonal ಕರ್ಮದ ನಿಯಮ, both common everyday explanatory frames for hardship in Kannada speech.Native speaker review
30Thanksgiving and Christian Fellowship5:12–14LowStandard low-risk closing greeting vocabulary; minor risk of over-literalizing the “kiss of love” as a required practice rather than a culturally-specific expression of affection.Automated review

  • 1:1–2 — Greeting, elect exiles, Trinitarian formula. Doctrines active: Providence and Election (#4), Christian Identity as Sojourners and Exiles (#28), Sanctification (#19, “sanctification of the Spirit”), Grace (#6, opening greeting formula “grace and peace”). Doctrine active: The Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood (#11, High) — this is the doctrine’s primary and defining passage in the whole book. Election vocabulary here also reinforces Providence and Election (#4) and Divine Calling (#5, “called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”).

Chapter 2 coverage: complete. Section 2:1–3 explicitly reviewed and noted as contributing no new doctrinal category beyond existing entries.

Chapter 3 (3:1–22)

  • 3:1–7 — Wives and husbands, Sarah calling Abraham lord, gentle and quiet spirit, fellow heirs of the grace of life. Doctrines active: Household Relationships (#21, High — note the ὁδεσπότης/κύριος-for-husband rendering caution), Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance (#12, High), Holiness in Conduct (#13).
  • 3:8–12 — Unity, sympathy, blessing instead of reviling, quotation of Psalm 34. Reviewed — no new doctrinal risk; reinforces Love and Mutual Care (#26) and Holiness in Conduct (#13) already tabulated.
  • 3:13–17 — Suffering for righteousness, sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, ready defense, good conscience. Doctrines active: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake (#8, Critical), Lordship of Christ (#16, Critical — this is the passage’s defining occurrence, 1 Peter’s Romans-10:9 equivalent).
  • 3:18–22 — Christ suffered once for sins, righteous for unrighteous, put to death in flesh/made alive in spirit, proclamation to spirits in prison, days of Noah, baptism now saves you, resurrection, angels/authorities/powers subject to him. This is the single densest and highest-risk passage cluster in the book. Doctrines active: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering (#10, Critical), Resurrection of Christ (#18, Critical), Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits (#15, Critical — highest-priority cultural flag in the entire curriculum), Baptism and the Appeal of Conscience (#25, Medium), Deity and Glory of Christ (#17, High), Lordship of Christ (#16, Critical).

Chapter 3 coverage: complete. Section 3:8–12 explicitly reviewed with no new doctrinal category introduced.

Chapter 4 (4:1–19)

  • 4:1–6 — Arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, done with sin, licentious Gentile living contrasted, gospel preached to the dead. Doctrines active: Participatory Suffering with Christ (#9, High), Sanctification (#19, “ceased from sin”), Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits (#15, Critical — 4:6’s “gospel preached to the dead” is the book’s second occurrence of this doctrine and requires the same mandatory theologian routing and dedicated note as 3:18–22).
  • 4:7–11 — The end is at hand, love covers a multitude of sins, hospitality, spiritual gifts, God’s varied grace, good stewards. Doctrines active: Love and Mutual Care in the Church (#26, Medium), Spiritual Gifts and Mutual Service (#22, Medium), Grace (#6, High — “God’s varied grace”), Holy Spirit and Inspiration of Scripture (#20, “oracles of God,” 4:11).

  • 5:6–7 — Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand, cast your anxieties on him. Doctrines active: Elders and Humility (#14), God’s Faithful Providence Amid Suffering (#29, Medium — “he cares for you”).
  • 5:8–9 — Adversary the devil, roaring lion, resist him firm in faith. Doctrine active: Spiritual Warfare and the Adversary (#24, High).
  • 5:10–11 — God of all grace, restore/confirm/strengthen/establish, eternal glory in Christ. Doctrines active: Assurance of Salvation and Perseverance (#23, High), Grace (#6, High — “God of all grace”), Divine Calling (#5, “who has called you to his eternal glory”), Deity and Glory of Christ (#17).
  • 5:12–14 — Peter’s closing testimony, Silvanus, Babylon, Mark, kiss of love, peace to all in Christ. Doctrine active: Thanksgiving and Christian Fellowship (#30, Low). “Babylon” (coded reference to Rome) is a low-risk historical/literary note item, tracked here but not elevated to its own doctrine entry, consistent with the registry.

Chapter 5 coverage: complete. No section omitted.

Part C — Cross-Chapter Doctrine Occurrence Index

For Phase 2 routing convenience, the doctrines with the widest cross-chapter footprint (requiring the most consistent, repeated enforcement) are:

DoctrineChapters PresentOccurrence Count (approx.)
Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake1, 3, 47 passage clusters
Grace1, 2, 4, 55 passage clusters
Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering1, 2, 33 passage clusters
Holiness in Conduct1, 2, 34 passage clusters
Divine Calling1, 2, 54 passage clusters
Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits3, 42 passage clusters (both mandatory theologian sign-off)
Lordship of Christ1, 33 passage clusters
Resurrection of Christ1, 33 passage clusters

These cross-chapter doctrines are the highest priority for translation-memory consistency checks in Phase 2, since the same Kannada rendering must recur identically across all listed chapters per the Theological Consistency Rules established in the Romans baseline (12_ai_translation_requirements.md).

Part D — Confirmation of Registry Consistency

This matrix is generated to be structurally identical to assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json:

  • Same 30 doctrine entries, same names, same Kannada doctrine names.
  • Same risk tiers per doctrine (Critical: 7; High: 16; Medium: 6; Low: 1).
  • Same review routing per doctrine.
  • No doctrine renamed, merged, split, or re-tiered relative to the registry.

Any future update to risk tier or routing for any doctrine listed here must be made simultaneously in assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json to preserve this consistency, per the version-increment discipline established in the Romans baseline translation_memory.json.

This document extends the Romans Language Package for the 1 Peter curriculum and does not contradict any baseline term, tier, or convention. See assets/translation_memory.json, assets/bible_term_registry.json, and assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json for the enforcement databases, and analysis/08_core_glossary.md for the full term-level rationale underlying each doctrine entry above.

Critical Risk Doctrines

The Living Hope of the Resurrection

Kannada name: ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನದ ಮೂಲಕ ಜೀವಂತ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆ
Key terms: living hope, resurrection, born again, inheritance
Review routing: Human theologian

The curriculum’s core doctrine, anchored to ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ (never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ, the reincarnation term). ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆ (hope) must retain specific, resurrection-secured content and must not be flattened into either wishful ಆಶಾಭಾವನೆ or the fatalistic ಹಣೆಬರಹ idiom already forbidden in the baseline for providence/election.

Regeneration / New Birth

Kannada name: ನೂತನ ಜನ್ಮ
Key terms: born again, imperishable seed, living and abiding word
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ (reincarnation within saṃsāra). Regeneration is a single, once-for-all, monergistic new-creation event producing a settled new status — not another turn of the birth-death-rebirth cycle and not a step toward eventual Aikya-style dissolution of the self.

Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake

Kannada name: ನೀತಿಗಾಗಿ ಬಾಧೆ
Key terms: suffer for righteousness’ sake, various trials, fiery trial, reproached for the name of Christ
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: ‘suffering for righteousness’ (ನೀತಿ) must never collapse into ಧರ್ಮ, which would recast suffering as fulfillment of caste-duty or cosmic moral order. Trials must also be distinguished from the karma-consequence framework (suffering as payback for past-deed demerit) common in Kannada folk explanations of misfortune.

Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering

Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿ ಬಾಧೆ
Key terms: bore our sins in his body on the tree, by his wounds healed, Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, lamb without blemish
Review routing: Human theologian

This is substitutionary, sacrificial-system atonement language (Isaiah 53 background) requiring explicit OT teaching for an audience with low OT narrative literacy. ‘Only once’ (ಒಂದೇ ಸಲ) must be preserved to guard against reading this as a repeatable ritual sacrifice; ರಕ್ತದ ಚಿಮುಕಿಸುವಿಕೆ must avoid the Vedic ritual term ಪ್ರೋಕ್ಷಣೆ, which would recast Christ’s blood as a repeatable purificatory substance.

Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits

Kannada name: ಆತ್ಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆ
Key terms: spirits in prison, proclaimed, gospel preached to the dead, days of Noah
Review routing: Human theologian

HIGHEST-PRIORITY CULTURAL FLAG IN THIS CURRICULUM, exceeding even the baseline’s ordinary Critical-tier bar. Coastal Karnataka’s Bhuta Kola / Daiva ārādhane tradition treats spirits as approachable, communicable-with, and capable of continued relationship through ritual mediums. This passage risks being read as Christ functioning like a spirit-medium, or as validating ancestral-spirit communication/propitiation. Must be taught as a unique, one-time proclamation of triumph over rebellious spiritual powers by the risen Christ, never a repeatable practice or warrant for engaging ancestral/local spirits. Mandatory human theologian review and dedicated translator’s note for every occurrence.

Lordship of Christ

Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಕರ್ತೃತ್ವ
Key terms: sanctify Christ as Lord, Lord Jesus Christ, not domineering (elders under the one Lord)
Review routing: Human theologian

1 Peter 3:15’s command to ‘sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts’ is this letter’s own equivalent of Romans 10:9’s confession and must be rendered with identical, non-negotiable exclusivity — never softened toward the Veerashaiva Aikya picture in which the devotee’s ultimate destiny is to merge into and lose distinction from the Lord.

Resurrection of Christ

Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ
Key terms: resurrection, raised from the dead, made alive in the spirit
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ, never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ. The disputed ‘made alive in the spirit’ phrase of 3:18 must be explicitly anchored to this same bodily, historical, once-for-all resurrection, not read as a merely inward/mystical experience.

High Risk Doctrines

Inheritance and Assurance

Kannada name: ಬಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಮತ್ತು ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಭರವಸೆ
Key terms: inheritance, imperishable, undefiled, unfading, guarded
Review routing: Human theologian

ಬಾಧ್ಯತೆ must stay anchored to sonship, not a generic estate gained through merit or karmic accumulation; ಅಕ್ಷಯ must be avoided for ‘imperishable’ since it carries Sanskrit-loaded associations with inexhaustible ritual/karmic merit (cf. Akshaya Tritiya). ಕಾಪಾಡಲ್ಪಡುವ (guarded) must convey active divine protection, distinguished from the incremental, uncertain progress of the Lingayat shatsthala path.

Providence and Election

Kannada name: ದೇವರ ಪೂರ್ವಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಆಯ್ಕೆ
Key terms: foreknowledge, elect exiles, foreknown before the foundation of the world
Review routing: Human theologian

God’s personal, purposive foreknowing and choosing must not be absorbed into ಹಣೆಬರಹ (fatalistic ‘forehead-writing’) or ಕರ್ಮದ ನಿಯಮ (impersonal karma-law) — both common everyday Kannada explanatory frameworks for why things happen.

Divine Calling

Kannada name: ದೇವರ ಕರೆ
Key terms: called, calling, called out of darkness into light, called to suffer
Review routing: Human theologian

God’s initiating, sovereign call must be distinguished from the devotee-initiated ascent of the Lingayat shatsthala stages and from a Haridasa devotee’s own chosen ‘dasa’ identity — in 1 Peter, God is always the one who calls, out of darkness and into suffering-then-glory.

Grace

Kannada name: ಕೃಪೆ
Key terms: grace, this is a gracious thing, God’s varied grace, grace to the humble
Review routing: Human theologian

Grace stands against both the general Hindu karma-merit economy and the Lingayat kayaka-dasoha ethic, in which right standing is demonstrated through disciplined sacred work and generous sharing; 1 Peter 2:19-20 uniquely calls unjust, patiently-endured suffering itself ‘gracious’ (χάρις), which must be preserved as God’s favorable regard, not a merit the sufferer has earned.

Faith

Kannada name: ನಂಬಿಕೆ
Key terms: faith, believe, tested genuineness of faith, firm in faith
Review routing: Human theologian

Personal trust in the unseen but believed-in Christ specifically (1:8) must be distinguished from ಭಕ್ತಿ, the devotional surrender a Haridasa devotee directs toward Krishna or a Lingayat devotee toward Shiva through the personal ishtalinga.

Participatory Suffering with Christ

Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಬಾಧೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲುಗಾರಿಕೆ
Key terms: share Christ’s sufferings, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, example
Review routing: Human theologian

Believers’ identificational, experiential sharing in Christ’s sufferings must be kept theologically distinct from Christ’s own unique, atoning, substitutionary suffering (3:18) — related doctrines that translators and reviewers must not conflate.

The Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood

Kannada name: ಪವಿತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಯಾಜಕವರ್ಗವಾದ ಸಭೆ
Key terms: living stone, spiritual house, holy priesthood, royal priesthood, chosen race, holy nation
Review routing: Human theologian

ಯಾಜಕ must be used, never ಪುರೋಹಿತ (the caste-inherited Brahmin ritual priest), since the entire point is that every believer, regardless of birth status, is now a priest. ‘Chosen race’ (ಜನಾಂಗ) must never be rendered ಜಾತಿ, which would recast gospel-election as a new birth-caste. ‘Living stone’ also risks assimilation to the Lingayat ishtalinga (a wearable personal stone-symbol of Shiva) rather than the intended OT builder’s-cornerstone metaphor.

Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance

Kannada name: ಅಧಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಅಧೀನತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನಂತಹ ತಾಳ್ಮೆ
Key terms: submit / be subject, household servants, honor the king, gentle and quiet spirit
Review routing: Human theologian

ಅಧೀನರಾಗಿರಿ must be taught as a freely-chosen, Christ-modeled response for the sake of witness, not fatalistic acceptance of an unchangeable caste-style social order nor a works-based means of securing standing before God. ‘Gentle and quiet spirit’ (3:4) risks collapsing into culturally normative feminine social deference rather than the active, Christ-like inner strength the text commends.

Holiness in Conduct

Kannada name: ನಡತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪವಿತ್ರತೆ
Key terms: be holy, conduct, reverent fear, abstain from passions
Review routing: Human theologian

ನಡತೆ (conduct) must be taught as the visible fruit of an already-given holy status, never its merit-earning cause — the same distinction the baseline draws between grace and the Lingayat kayaka-dasoha ethic of disciplined sacred work building standing. ಭಯಭಕ್ತಿ (reverent fear) must be filial awe before a righteous Father-Judge, not superstitious fear of capricious spirits as in Bhuta Kola propitiation.

Elders and Humility

Kannada name: ಹಿರಿಯರು ಮತ್ತು ದೀನಮನಸ್ಸು
Key terms: elders, shepherd the flock, not domineering, Chief Shepherd, humility, clothe yourselves with humility
Review routing: Human theologian

Eldership must be distinguished from hereditary caste/village-council eldership and from the Lingayat ಜಂಗಮ wandering-teacher office. ದೀನಮನಸ್ಸು (humility) risks being heard as mere social politeness or as the deference expected of a lower-status person within a caste or gender hierarchy, rather than the mutual, freely-chosen, Christ-modeled self-lowering by all members the text commands (‘all of you, clothe yourselves’).

Deity and Glory of Christ

Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ದೇವತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಿಮೆ
Key terms: glory, glories to follow, angels, authorities, and powers subject to him
Review routing: Human theologian

ಮಹಿಮೆ must avoid light-only imagery that could merge with mystical-illumination associations of the Aikya path; Christ’s cosmic supremacy over angels, authorities, and powers (rendered with ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ, never ಶಕ್ತಿ) must be read as undiminished divine authority, not one honored spiritual figure among many venerated powers.

Sanctification

Kannada name: ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ
Key terms: sanctification of the Spirit, be holy, ceased from sin
Review routing: Human theologian

The Spirit’s ongoing sanctifying work must be distinguished from the disciplined, self-directed ascent through the Lingayat shatsthala stages, however much the outward ethical behavior may overlap.

Holy Spirit and Inspiration of Scripture

Kannada name: ಪವಿತ್ರಾತ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ಪವಿತ್ರ ಗ್ರಂಥದ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ
Key terms: Spirit of Christ, prophets searched and inquired, living and abiding word of God, oracles of God
Review routing: Human theologian

Never ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ for the Spirit (impersonal Vedantic Universal Self). ‘Oracles of God’ must never be rendered ವಚನ, the revered technical term for the Lingayat Sharana poet-saints’ devotional-philosophical corpus (Vachana Sahitya) — genuinely treasured local literature but categorically distinct from God-breathed Scripture.

Household Relationships

Kannada name: ಕುಟುಂಬ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳು
Key terms: wives be subject, husbands live with understanding, Sarah calling Abraham lord, fellow heirs of the grace of life
Review routing: Human theologian

κύριος applied to a human husband (3:6) must be rendered ಒಡೆಯ, not ಕರ್ತ, to preserve ಕರ್ತ’s exclusive reservation for Christ’s divine Lordship; submission here must be read as freely-chosen Christian witness, not culturally normative gender hierarchy alone.

Assurance of Salvation and Perseverance

Kannada name: ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಭರವಸೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಥಿರತೆ
Key terms: guarded through faith, unfading crown, restore, confirm, strengthen, establish
Review routing: Human theologian

Assurance rests on God’s own settled, active protection and stabilizing action, distinguished from the incremental, uncertain progress of the Lingayat shatsthala path toward Aikya, where advancement is a matter of ongoing personal spiritual attainment rather than a gifted, settled status.

Spiritual Warfare and the Adversary

Kannada name: ಆತ್ಮಿಕ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮತ್ತು ವಿರೋಧಿ
Key terms: adversary, the devil, roaring lion, resist him, firm in faith
Review routing: Human theologian

Prefer the transliterated proper name ಸೈತಾನ over generic terms like ಪಿಶಾಚ or ದೆವ್ವ, which in Kannada usage — especially in the coastal Bhuta Kola / spirit-belief context — denote a broad category of local, placatable, ritually-manageable spirits. Satan must be presented as the singular, supremely dangerous cosmic Adversary resisted through faith, never appeased or ritually managed.

Medium Risk Doctrines

Spiritual Gifts and Mutual Service

Kannada name: ಆತ್ಮಿಕ ವರಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸೇವೆ
Key terms: spiritual gift, God’s varied grace, good stewards
Review routing: Native speaker review

ಆತ್ಮಿಕ ವರಗಳು must be used as the full compound; never ವರ or ಸಿದ್ಧಿ alone, which would suggest a merit-earned or yogic self-attained ability rather than Spirit-given enablement for serving others.

Baptism and the Appeal of Conscience

Kannada name: ದೀಕ್ಷಾಸ್ನಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಮನಸ್ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯ ಮನವಿ
Key terms: baptism, not a removal of dirt from the body, appeal to God for a good conscience
Review routing: Native speaker review

The text’s own qualifying clause distinguishing baptism from ritual purification must be preserved clearly, since ceremonial ritual bathing (snana) for purification in sacred rivers is a widespread and meaningful Hindu practice that could otherwise be conflated with ದೀಕ್ಷಾಸ್ನಾನ.

Love and Mutual Care in the Church

Kannada name: ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಕಾಳಜಿ
Key terms: sincere brotherly love, love covers a multitude of sins, hospitable without grumbling
Review routing: Native speaker review

‘Love covers a multitude of sins’ must not be taught as human love atoning for sin (which belongs only to Christ’s substitutionary blood, 3:18); it names patient, forgiving love among believers, not a competing source of atonement.

Judgment Beginning at the Household of God

Kannada name: ದೇವರ ಮನೆತನದ ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರ್ಪು
Key terms: judgment begins at the household of God, faithful Creator
Review routing: Native speaker review

Must be read as purifying discipline within God’s own family, not punitive condemnation; ನಂಬಿಗಸ್ತ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಕರ್ತ keeps trust in a personal, faithful Maker distinguished from the impersonal, self-operating cosmic order (karma/fate) that governs suffering in other worldview frameworks.

Christian Identity as Sojourners and Exiles

Kannada name: ಪರದೇಶಿಗಳಾದ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ ಗುರುತು
Key terms: sojourners, exiles of the dispersion, time of your exile
Review routing: Native speaker review

Avoid ಯಾತ್ರಿಕ (‘pilgrim’), which carries strong associations with Hindu pilgrimage practice (yatra to a sacred site) rather than the NT sense of displaced, homeward-looking exile identity in a world that is not one’s true home.

God’s Faithful Providence Amid Suffering

Kannada name: ಬಾಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಂಬಿಗಸ್ತ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಕರ್ತನ ಪರಿಪಾಲನೆ
Key terms: faithful Creator, entrust your souls while doing good, cast all your anxieties on him
Review routing: Native speaker review

Trust in God’s personal, faithful governance amid suffering must be distinguished from resignation to ಹಣೆಬರಹ (fatalism) or the impersonal ಕರ್ಮದ ನಿಯಮ, both common everyday explanatory frames for hardship in Kannada speech.

Low Risk Doctrines

Thanksgiving and Christian Fellowship

Kannada name: ಕೃತಜ್ಞತಾಸ್ತುತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ
Key terms: kiss of love, peace to all of you who are in Christ, greet one another
Review routing: Automated review

Standard low-risk closing greeting vocabulary; minor risk of over-literalizing the ‘kiss of love’ as a required practice rather than a culturally-specific expression of affection.
