Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis: Luke 1–24 (English → Kannada)
Purpose and Scope
This document provides the full-book doctrine matrix required by PRD Phase 1 Step 4. It maps every doctrine identified in doctrine_risk_registry.json (Luke) to its supporting passages chapter by chapter across the entire Gospel, with translation risk notes specific to the Kannada destination-culture context (mainstream Hindu devotional practice, Haridasa Krishna-bhakti centered at Udupi, Lingayat/Veerashaiva theology and social history, and Karnataka’s Shakta and Bhuta Kola traditions). Risk tiers and review routing are fully consistent with doctrine_risk_registry.json — no doctrine here is assigned a tier different from that registry. The core passage, Luke 4:16-21, is the theological anchor of the curriculum but not its analytical boundary; every chapter of Luke is reviewed below, including chapters that contribute no new doctrinal load, which are noted explicitly rather than omitted.

Part II — Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrine Matrix
Chapter 1 — Annunciations, Incarnation Announced, Magnificat, Benedictus
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Incarnation | 1:26-35 | Critical | Gabriel’s announcement to Mary is the curriculum’s founding incarnation text. Never ಅವತಾರ. ಕನ್ಯೆ (virgin, 1:27,34) must retain a literal, biological sense, not “young woman.” ನೆರಳಿನಂತೆ ಆವರಿಸು (overshadow, 1:35) must not suggest a repeatable divine descent. | Human theologian |
| Sonship of Christ | 1:32,35 | Critical | ”He will be called ದೇವರ ಮಗ” — the full phrase is mandatory; must not be softened to an honorific. | Human theologian |
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 1:31-33,69-70 | Critical | The angel’s promise of David’s throne forever (1:32-33) and Zechariah’s prophecy (1:69-70) both assert linear, historical, one-time fulfillment. | Human theologian |
| Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History | 1:15,35,41,67 | High | The Spirit fills John before birth, comes upon Mary, fills Elizabeth and Zechariah — active personal agency; never ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ. | Human theologian |
| Divine Calling and Election | 1:13-17 (John), 1:26-33 (Mary) | High | God’s sovereign initiative in choosing Zechariah/Elizabeth’s son and Mary; not devotee-initiated spiritual ascent. | Human theologian |
| Reversal Theology: Rich and Poor | 1:46-55 (Magnificat) | High | ”He has brought down rulers… lifted up the humble… filled the hungry… rich sent away empty” is a concrete social-economic reversal, not generic moral uplift. | Human theologian |
| Sanctification and Holiness | 1:15,35,49,70,72 | High | ಪವಿತ್ರ used repeatedly of God’s name, the Spirit, and Israel’s calling; relational/moral holiness, not ritual purity alone. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 1:37 (“nothing is impossible with God”); 1:68-79 | High | God’s purposive redemptive plan across generations (Benedictus); not fatalistic ಹಣೆಬರಹ. | Human theologian |
| Joy in Salvation | 1:14,44 | Medium | ಸಂತೋಷ, not ಆನಂದ, for John’s leap of joy and the promised joy of his birth. | Native speaker review |
Chapter 2 — Birth of Jesus, Shepherds, Simeon, Anna, Boy Jesus in the Temple
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Incarnation | 2:1-7 | Critical | The historical birth narrative (census, manger) grounds the incarnation in real time and place — not myth or repeatable descent. | Human theologian |
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 2:11,26 | Critical | ”Savior… ಮೆಸ್ಸೀಯ ಕರ್ತ” (Christ the Lord) — triad of titles must each retain full technical force. | Human theologian |
| Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People | 2:10-11,29-32 | Critical | Simeon’s Nunc Dimittis names Jesus “a light for revelation to the ಅನ್ಯಜನಾಂಗದವರು and the glory of your people ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್” in a single breath — the paired universality must not be separated or ranked. | Human theologian |
| Lordship of Christ | 2:11 | Critical | ಕರ್ತ, not ಸ್ವಾಮಿ, for the infant already named “the Lord.” | Human theologian |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 2:49 (δεῖ, “must be in my Father’s house”) | High | Boy Jesus’ first recorded words assert purposive necessity tied to Sonship, not impersonal fate. | Human theologian |
| Sanctification and Holiness | 2:22-27,39 (presentation “according to the Law”) | High | Ritual fulfillment of ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ frames Jesus’ obedience within, not against, Israel’s covenant law. | Human theologian |
| Joy in Salvation | 2:10 | Medium | ಸಂತೋಷ (“good news of great joy”) consistent with 1:14. | Native speaker review |
| Inspiration and Fulfillment of Scripture | 2:22-24 (referencing Torah); implied continuity | High | Establishes that the infancy narrative is bound to written covenant Scripture, not oral vachana-style testimony. | Human theologian |
Chapter 3 — John the Baptist’s Preaching, Baptism of Jesus, Genealogy
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 3:3,8 | Critical | ಮಾನಸಾಂತರ (“baptism of repentance for the ಪಾಪ ಕ್ಷಮೆ”) introduces the compound doctrine that will recur through the Gospel; distinguish from ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ ritual self-expiation. | Human theologian |
| Baptism and Repentance | 3:3,7,12,16,21 | High | ದೀಕ್ಷಾಸ್ನಾನ collides with guru-lineage ದೀಕ್ಷೆ/liṅga-dīkṣe; catechetical note required distinguishing once-for-all public identification from an ongoing initiatory path. | Human theologian |
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 3:4-6,15-17 | Critical | Isaiah quotation (“all flesh shall see the salvation of God,” 3:6) anticipates the universal-scope doctrine; John’s denial of messianic status for himself sharpens the unique referent of ಮೆಸ್ಸೀಯ. | Human theologian |
| Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History | 3:16,22 | High | The Spirit’s descent “in bodily form like a dove” at Jesus’ baptism, and the promise of Spirit-and-fire baptism, must retain personal agency; avoid any ಶಕ್ತಿ-empowerment framing. | Human theologian |
| Sonship of Christ | 3:22,38 | Critical | The heavenly voice (“You are my ಪ್ರಿಯ ಮಗ”) at 3:22 is the unique divine Sonship; 3:38’s “Adam, the son of God” is a different, creational sense and requires a disambiguating translator note so the two are never conflated. | Human theologian |
| Reversal Theology: Rich and Poor | 3:11-14 | High | John’s ethical instructions (share coats/food, take no more than appointed, no extortion) anticipate Luke’s economic-justice theme; concrete, not merely spiritualized generosity. | Human theologian |
Chapter 4 — CORE PASSAGE: Nazareth Sermon (4:16-21), Temptation, Galilean Ministry Begins
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 4:16-21 (core passage), 4:24 | Critical | ”ಇಂದು ಈ ವಚನ ನೆರವೇರಿತು” (today this Scripture is fulfilled, 4:21) is the single most theologically load-bearing sentence in the curriculum: one historical, once-for-all fulfillment, not a cyclical yuga-return or an individual mystic’s stage-attainment. The emphatic, sentence-initial “today” (ಇಂದು) must be fixed here first and reused verbatim at 2:11; 19:5,9; 23:43. | Human theologian |
| Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History | 4:1,14,18 | High | ”The Spirit of the Lord is upon me… has ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸು (anointed) me” — the Spirit’s anointing must be distinguished from Śaiva liṅga-abhiṣeka ritual anointing; mandatory translator note at every occurrence of ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸು. | Human theologian |
| Good News to the Poor and Marginalized | 4:18 | High | ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ names actual economically poor people as the gospel’s first-named addressee — this exact phrase must be fixed in the core passage and reused identically at 7:22. | Human theologian |
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 4:18 (ἄφεσις as “release to captives”) | Critical | The same Greek word aphesis renders both “release” (ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ) here and “forgiveness” (ಪಾಪ ಕ್ಷಮೆ) elsewhere (1:77; 3:3; 24:47); this wordplay is unavoidably lost in Kannada and requires a mandatory translator note every time either term appears in a Lukan Isaiah-Jubilee context. | Human theologian |
| Kingdom of God Present and Future | 4:18-19,43 | High | ”ಕರ್ತನ ಕೃಪಾವರುಷ” (year of the Lord’s favor, 4:19) names an unrepeatable historical Jubilee-fulfillment, not an astrologically auspicious year (ಶುಭ ವರ್ಷ); 4:43’s “I must (δεῖ) proclaim the kingdom” ties kingdom-preaching to divine necessity. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 4:43 | High | δεῖ (“I must”) expresses purposive divine plan, never ಹಣೆಬರಹ. | Human theologian |
| Sonship of Christ / Deity of Christ | 4:3,9,41 | Critical | The devil’s and demons’ address “ದೇವರ ಮಗ” (Son of God) in the temptation and exorcism accounts must retain full titular weight even from hostile/unclean-spirit speakers. | Human theologian |
| Authority Over Evil Spirits | 4:33-36,41 | High | Jesus commands unclean spirits with sovereign ಅಧಿಕಾರ (authority), not negotiation or propitiation — distinguish sharply from Bhuta Kola ritual spirit-appeasement. | Human theologian |
| Sanctification and Holiness | 4:34 (“Holy One of God”) | High | ಪವಿತ್ರ used as a titular confession by an unclean spirit — theological irony requiring careful handling so as not to read as ritual-purity language. | Human theologian |
Chapter 5 — Calling of Disciples, Healing the Paralytic, Levi’s Feast, Fasting Question
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost and Joy of Discipleship | 5:1-11,27-28 | High | Peter, James, John, and Levi “left everything and ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸಿದರು (followed)” — immediate, costly response to a sovereign call. | Human theologian |
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 5:20-24,32 | Critical | The paralytic’s ಪಾಪ ಕ್ಷಮೆ provokes “who can forgive sins but God alone?” — this is simultaneously a forgiveness text and a deity-of-Christ text; both doctrines must be flagged together. | Human theologian |
| Deity of Christ | 5:20-24 | Critical | Jesus’ direct claim to forgive sins on his own authority (not “God forgives” but “your sins are forgiven,” followed by proof-miracle) is a direct divine claim; must not be softened to “on behalf of God.” | Human theologian |
| Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners | 5:27-32 | High | Levi’s banquet with “ಸುಂಕದವರು ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಪಿಗಳು” (tax collectors and sinners) is Luke’s first table-fellowship scandal; must retain full social scandal, not generic hospitality. | Human theologian |
| Divine Calling and Election | 5:32 (“I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance”) | High | ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ used here for God’s initiative in calling sinners specifically, not the self-righteous. | Human theologian |
| Grace versus Merit | 5:31-32 | High | ”It is not the healthy who need a doctor” — grace directed at the needy, not the meritorious. | Human theologian |
Chapter 6 — Sermon on the Plain, Choosing the Twelve, Blessings and Woes
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Good News to the Poor and Marginalized | 6:20-23 | High | ”ಧನ್ಯರು ಬಡವರೇ” (Blessed are the poor) — must retain Luke’s economically concrete sense against Matthew’s “poor in spirit,” per this curriculum’s emphasis. | Human theologian |
| Reversal Theology: Rich and Poor | 6:20-26 | High | The paired blessings/woes structure (6:24-26, ಅಯ್ಯೋ to the rich, full, laughing, well-spoken-of) is Luke’s clearest reversal-theology unit; must not be flattened into a single moral generalization. | Human theologian |
| Divine Calling and Election | 6:13 | High | Jesus “called (ಕರೆದು) his disciples and chose (ಆಯ್ದುಕೊಂಡನು) twelve of them to be apostles” — sovereign selection, not merit-based recognition. | Human theologian |
| Apostleship and Sent Ministry | 6:13 | Medium | ಅಪೊಸ್ತಲ, never ಗುರು/ಜಂಗಮ, for the Twelve’s commissioned office. | Native speaker review |
| Grace versus Merit | 6:27-36 (love enemies, lend expecting nothing) | High | Ethic of grace-shaped generosity contrasted with reciprocal exchange (“if you love those who love you, what credit/ಕೃಪೆ is that to you?” v.32-34) — must preserve the grace-vs-transactional-merit contrast. | Human theologian |
| Sanctification and Holiness | 6:43-45 (fruit) | High | ಫಲ (fruit) as evidence of inner character, distinct from karma-phala merit-accumulation. | Human theologian |
Chapter 7 — Centurion’s Faith, Widow’s Son at Nain, John’s Question, Sinful Woman Forgiven
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Faith of Jew and Gentile | 7:1-10,9 | High | ”Not even in ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ have I found such great ನಂಬಿಕೆ” — a Gentile centurion’s faith explicitly commended above native Israelite response; must not be softened. | Human theologian |
| Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People | 7:1-10 | Critical | The centurion account is a key supporting passage for the whole-book universal-savior doctrine. | Human theologian |
| Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners | 7:13,36-50 | High | ಕನಿಕರಪಡು (compassion, 7:13) for the widow of Nain; the sinful woman’s welcome at Simon’s table (7:36-50) is a direct table-fellowship scandal involving a “ಪಾಪಿಗಳು” woman touching Jesus. | Human theologian |
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 7:47-49 | Critical | ”Her many ಪಾಪ have been forgiven, for she loved much” — forgiveness precedes and produces love, not the reverse; care needed not to invert grace and merit here. | Human theologian |
| Assurance of Salvation | 7:50 | High | ”ನಿನ್ನ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದೆ; ಸಮಾಧಾನದಿಂದ ಹೋಗು” (your faith has saved you; go in peace) — first occurrence of the formula that must be verbatim-fixed and reused at 8:48; 17:19; 18:42. | Human theologian |
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 7:18-23 | Critical | Jesus’ answer to John (the blind see, poor have good news preached) directly echoes 4:18, tying John’s question to the core passage’s fulfillment claim. | Human theologian |
| Resurrection of Christ | 7:11-17 (widow’s son raised) | Critical | While not Christ’s own resurrection, this raising is a foreshadowing type; must use ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ-adjacent bodily-restoration language, never any rebirth-cycle term. | Human theologian |
Chapter 8 — Parable of the Sower, Calming the Storm, Gerasene Demoniac, Jairus’ Daughter
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kingdom of God Present and Future | 8:1,10 | High | ”Secrets of the ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ” given to disciples — kingdom as present, hidden growth (parable of sower). | Human theologian |
| Authority Over Evil Spirits | 8:22-25 (storm), 8:26-39 (Legion) | High | The calming of the storm and the Gerasene exorcism both display sovereign, command-based authority over nature and evil spirits; the demons’ request and permission-seeking (8:31-33) must not read as negotiation Jesus enters into as an equal party — he grants or denies by sovereign right. | Human theologian |
| Faith of Jew and Gentile | 8:25,48 | High | Jesus’ rebuke (“Where is your ನಂಬಿಕೆ?”) and the healed woman’s faith (8:48, reusing the fixed assurance formula) both stress personal trust in him specifically. | Human theologian |
| Assurance of Salvation | 8:48 | High | Second occurrence of the fixed formula; must be verbatim-identical to 7:50. | Human theologian |
| Resurrection of Christ | 8:49-56 (Jairus’ daughter) | Critical | ”Talitha… arise” — bodily restoration to ordinary life, a distinct category from Christ’s own resurrection to imperishable life, but must still avoid any rebirth-cycle vocabulary. | Human theologian |
Chapter 9 — Feeding of 5000, Peter’s Confession, Transfiguration, Passion Predictions, Cost of Discipleship
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 9:18-20 | Critical | Peter’s confession “ದೇವರ ಮೆಸ್ಸೀಯ” (the Christ of God) is the Gospel’s narrative turning point. | Human theologian |
| Son of Man Christology | 9:22,26,44,56,58 | Critical | Extremely high concentration of ಮನುಷ್ಯಕುಮಾರ occurrences in this chapter (suffering prediction, glory-coming, second passion prediction, mission, homelessness saying); each requires theologian review per the registry’s blanket rule. | Human theologian |
| Resurrection of Christ | 9:22 | Critical | First explicit passion-and-resurrection prediction (“on the third day be raised,” ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನಗೊಳ್ಳುವನು) — never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 9:22 (δεῖ) | High | ”The Son of Man must (δεῖ) suffer” — purposive divine plan, not tragic fate. | Human theologian |
| Sonship of Christ / Deity of Christ | 9:35 | Critical | Transfiguration voice: “This is my Son, my Chosen One (ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾದವನು)” — unique divine election of the Son, distinct from general believers’-election doctrine; overshadowing cloud (9:34) reuses incarnation-adjacent ನೆರಳಿನಂತೆ ಆವರಿಸು vocabulary and must not suggest a repeatable mystical ascent experience. | Human theologian |
| Cost and Joy of Discipleship | 9:23-25,57-62 | High | ”Take up his cross (ಶಿಲುಬೆ) daily and ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸು me,” and the three would-be-followers’ excuses (9:57-62) — cost language must retain the shame/execution sense of ಶಿಲುಬೆ and the absolute priority of following. | Human theologian |
| Divine Calling and Election | 9:1-6 (sending of Twelve) | High | Delegated, sent authority, not self-attained teaching status. | Human theologian |
| Apostleship and Sent Ministry | 9:1-6,10 | Medium | Mission of the Twelve; ಅಪೊಸ್ತಲ framing continues. | Native speaker review |
Chapter 10 — Sending of the Seventy, Good Samaritan, Mary and Martha
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apostleship and Sent Ministry | 10:1-12 | Medium | The Seventy(-two) are sent “two by two” with delegated ಅಧಿಕಾರ; distinguish from a self-appointed itinerant guru/jangama role. | Native speaker review |
| Joy in Salvation | 10:17,21 | Medium | Jesus “rejoiced (ಸಂತೋಷಪಟ್ಟನು) in the Holy Spirit” — relational joy tied to the Father’s revelation, not mystical bliss-absorption; ಆನಂದ avoided. | Native speaker review |
| Divine Calling and Election | 10:21-22 | High | ”You have hidden these things… and revealed them to little children” — the Father’s sovereign, gracious disclosure, paralleling election language. | Human theologian |
| Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners / Unity and Universal Scope of the Gospel | 10:25-37 (Good Samaritan) | High | ನೆರೆಯವನು (neighbor) must not be limited to one’s own caste/community; ಸಮಾರ್ಯದವನು (Samaritan) requires background explanation given no OT-literacy assumption. The Samaritan’s compassion (10:33, ಕನಿಕರಪಡು) models cross-boundary mercy directly relevant to Karnataka’s caste-conditioned social patterns. | Human theologian |
| Eternal Life and Paradise | 10:25 | Critical | The lawyer’s question “what must I do to ನಿತ್ಯಜೀವ (inherit eternal life)” opens Luke’s clearest inheritance-of-eternal-life unit; must never be assimilated to mokṣa/mukti. | Human theologian |
| Christian Fellowship and Mutual Care | 10:38-42 | Low | Martha and Mary; “the good portion” — low risk, ensure ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ/fellowship language is not reduced to social caste-community framing. | Automated review |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 10:21-22 | High | The Father’s sovereign will in revelation/concealment. | Human theologian |
Chapter 11 — The Lord’s Prayer, Ask-Seek-Knock, Beelzebul Controversy, Woes Against Pharisees
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prayer and Dependence on God | 11:1-13 | High | The Lord’s Prayer (ತಂದೆ address) and the ask/seek/knock teaching (ಕೇಳಿರಿ/ಹುಡುಕಿರಿ/ತಟ್ಟಿರಿ) model confident child-to-Father asking; must not read as puja/harake vow-bargaining. | Human theologian |
| Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History | 11:13 | High | ”How much more will the Father give the ಪವಿತ್ರಾತ್ಮ to those who ask” — the Spirit as the Father’s own gracious gift, personal not impersonal. | Human theologian |
| Authority Over Evil Spirits | 11:14-26 | High | Beelzebul controversy; “if I cast out demons by the finger of God, the ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ has come upon you” (11:20) links exorcism-authority directly to kingdom-arrival doctrine, not to any negotiated spirit-power. | Human theologian |
| Kingdom of God Present and Future | 11:20 | High | ”Has come upon you” (ἔφθασεν) is a strong present-kingdom claim requiring careful already/not-yet balance. | Human theologian |
| Sanctification and Holiness | 11:39-41 | High | Woe against cleansing “the outside of the cup” while inside is full of greed — explicit warning against substituting ritual precision for genuine inner holiness; directly useful for distinguishing ಪವಿತ್ರ from ಶುದ್ಧ. | Human theologian |
| Inspiration and Fulfillment of Scripture | 11:29-32 (sign of Jonah) | High | Historical, once-for-all sign-fulfillment logic consistent with 4:21’s pattern. | Human theologian |
Chapter 12 — Blasphemy Against the Spirit, Anxiety and Trust, Rich Fool, Watchfulness
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit | 12:10 | Critical | The one unforgivable sin — must be rendered with precise reference to willful, settled rejection of the Spirit’s testimony to Christ, not a vague catch-all formula; requires non-sensationalized pastoral framing. | Human theologian |
| Prayer and Dependence on God | 12:22-32 | High | ”Do not worry… your Father knows” — trust in the Father’s care as the antidote to anxiety, paralleling 11:1-13’s dependence theme. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 12:6-7,22-31 | High | God’s personal, attentive care (“not one sparrow is forgotten”) — distinguish from impersonal karma or fatalistic ಹಣೆಬರಹ explanations of circumstance. | Human theologian |
| Reversal Theology: Rich and Poor | 12:13-21 (rich fool) | High | Wealth accumulation without regard for God ends in loss — reinforces Luke’s economic-reversal theme from 1:46-55 and 6:20-26. | Human theologian |
| Cost and Joy of Discipleship | 12:49-53 | High | ”I have come to bring division, not peace” — the cost of allegiance to Christ within families; must not soften the text’s deliberately jarring claim. | Human theologian |
| Son of Man Christology | 12:8,10,40 | Critical | Three occurrences requiring theologian review; the Son of Man’s future acknowledgment/rejection of persons before the angels and unexpected coming both carry titular apocalyptic weight. | Human theologian |
Chapter 13 — Call to Repentance, Healing the Bent Woman, Kingdom Parables, Lament over Jerusalem
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 13:1-5 | Critical | ”Unless you ಮಾನಸಾಂತರ ಹೊಂದಿರಿ (repent), you will all likewise perish” — repentance tied to universal accountability, not proportional to visible tragedy/karma. | Human theologian |
| Sanctification and Holiness / Authority Over Evil Spirits | 13:10-17 | High | Healing the woman “bound by Satan” on the Sabbath — Jesus’ sovereign authority over both physical affliction and spiritual bondage, exercised in defiance of ritual-Sabbath objections. | Human theologian |
| Kingdom of God Present and Future | 13:18-21 (mustard seed, leaven), 13:28-29 | High | Present hidden growth alongside future consummation (“people will come from east and west… recline at table in the ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ”) — ties kingdom doctrine to universal-scope doctrine. | Human theologian |
| Unity and Universal Scope of the Gospel | 13:29 | High | Explicit east-west-north-south inclusion at the kingdom banquet anticipates 14:15-24’s climactic universality. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 13:33 (δεῖ, “I must journey on”) | High | Jesus’ Jerusalem-bound necessity is purposive, not tragic accident. | Human theologian |
| Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People | 13:34-35 (lament over Jerusalem) | Critical | Jesus’ grief over the city that “kills the prophets” reveals the Savior’s compassion extending even to those who reject him. | Human theologian |
Chapter 14 — Sabbath Healing, Teaching on Humility, Great Banquet Parable, Cost of Discipleship
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners | 14:1-24 | High | Sabbath healing at a Pharisee’s table, humility teaching on seating, and the Great Banquet parable together form Luke’s densest table-fellowship unit. | Human theologian |
| Good News to the Poor and Marginalized | 14:12-14,21 | High | ”Invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind” — concrete social marginalization named explicitly as the proper object of hospitality, echoing 4:18/6:20. | Human theologian |
| Unity and Universal Scope of the Gospel | 14:15-24 | High | The banquet’s final extension to “the roads and hedges” is Luke’s climactic universal-invitation image; must retain full inclusivity, not be narrowed to a single social class. | Human theologian |
| Reversal Theology: Rich and Poor | 14:11 (“whoever exalts himself will be humbled”) | High | Direct restatement of the reversal principle first sounded in the Magnificat (1:52). | Human theologian |
| Cost and Joy of Discipleship | 14:25-33 | High | The “hate father and mother” idiom (14:26) requires a mandatory idiom-handling translator note — a Semitic comparative-priority expression, not a literal command; count-the-cost sayings (tower-builder, king at war) reinforce this. | Human theologian |
Chapter 15 — Lost Sheep, Lost Coin, Prodigal Son
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 15:7,10,18,21 | Critical | All three parables culminate in repentance-and-restoration language; the prodigal’s confession (“I have sinned… I am no longer worthy”) models genuine ಮಾನಸಾಂತರ received freely, not earned back through service (the son’s proposed servant-status is explicitly refused by the father). | Human theologian |
| Grace versus Merit | 15:11-32 (esp. the elder brother, vv.28-30) | High | The elder brother’s merit-accounting complaint (“I have served you these many years”) is Luke’s clearest dramatization of a merit-economy mindset rejected by grace; directly parallels the kayaka-dasoha service-based standing risk named in the baseline. | Human theologian |
| Joy in Salvation | 15:7,10,32 | Medium | ”There is joy (ಸಂತೋಷ) in heaven”/the father’s celebratory joy — relational joy over the recovery of a person, not mystical absorption-bliss. | Native speaker review |
| Good News to the Poor and Marginalized | 15:1-2 | High | Frame narrative: “tax collectors and sinners were all gathering to hear him” — the parables’ setting is itself an enactment of table-fellowship-with-marginalized doctrine. | Human theologian |
| Divine Calling and Election | 15:4-7,8-10 (God’s active seeking) | High | The shepherd and woman actively “seek until found” — God’s initiative in seeking the lost, not the lost person’s self-attained discovery. | Human theologian |
Chapter 16 — Dishonest Manager, Rich Man and Lazarus, Law and the Kingdom
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eternal Life and Paradise | 16:19-31 | Critical | The rich man and Lazarus depicts a permanent, conscious, unbridgeable post-mortem state (“a great chasm has been fixed,” v.26) — must never be assimilated to a temporary karma-purifying naraka preceding rebirth. ಪಾತಾಳ/ನರಕ requires careful distinction from that cosmology. | Human theologian |
| Reversal Theology: Rich and Poor | 16:19-31 | High | Explicit economic reversal in the afterlife narrative (Lazarus comforted, the rich man in torment) — concrete, not merely symbolic of general virtue/vice. | Human theologian |
| Kingdom of God Present and Future | 16:16 | High | ”The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ is preached” — a hinge statement of salvation-historical progression. | Human theologian |
| Grace versus Merit | 16:1-13 (dishonest manager, mammon) | High | ಮಮ್ಮೋನ as a rival-master personification; stewardship contrasted with self-serving accumulation. | Human theologian |
| Inspiration and Fulfillment of Scripture | 16:17,29-31 | High | ”It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to become void” and “they have Moses and the Prophets” affirm Scripture’s abiding authority as the ground of accountability, not a merely useful teaching tradition among others. | Human theologian |
Chapter 17 — Forgiveness and Faith, Ten Lepers, The Kingdom Within/Among You
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 17:3-4 | Critical | ”If your brother sins… and repents, forgive him” — repeated, relational forgiveness modeled on God’s own, continuing the ಪಾಪ ಕ್ಷಮೆ doctrine into interpersonal ethics. | Human theologian |
| Faith of Jew and Gentile | 17:11-19 | High | The one leper who returns to give thanks is “ಸಮಾರ್ಯದವನು” (a Samaritan) — again an outsider’s response is commended, directly reinforcing the doctrine across chapters 7, 8, and 17. | Human theologian |
| Assurance of Salvation | 17:19 | High | ”ನಿನ್ನ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಸ್ವಸ್ಥಪಡಿಸಿದೆ/ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದೆ” — third occurrence of the fixed assurance formula; verbatim consistency with 7:50 and 8:48 is mandatory. | Human theologian |
| Thanksgiving and Gratitude | 17:11-19 | Low | The Samaritan’s return to give thanks (ಕೃತಜ್ಞತಾಸ್ತುತಿ) carries low doctrinal risk in itself, though it is embedded in the higher-risk faith-of-Gentile doctrine above. | Automated review |
| Kingdom of God Present and Future | 17:20-21 | Critical | ”The ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ…ἐντὸς ὑμῶν” is this chapter’s flashpoint text. ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ (“in your midst”) is the safer default given the hostile Pharisee audience; ನಿಮ್ಮ ಒಳಗೆ (“within you”) risks direct collision with Lingayat iṣṭaliṅga-indwelling theology and the Vedantic antaryāmin doctrine of an indwelling divine Self. A single theologian-approved rendering must be fixed before any Phase 2 segment translation proceeds. | Human theologian |
| Son of Man Christology | 17:22-30 | Critical | The Son of Man’s future “day” compared to the days of Noah and Lot — apocalyptic, titular usage requiring theologian review per the blanket rule. | Human theologian |
Chapter 18 — Persistent Widow, Pharisee and Tax Collector, Rich Ruler, Blind Beggar
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prayer and Dependence on God | 18:1-8 | High | The persistent widow parable teaches confident, persevering prayer grounded in God’s character, not transactional bargaining for a favorable outcome. | Human theologian |
| Justification by Faith | 18:9-14 | Critical | The tax collector’s humble plea (“God, be merciful to me, a sinner”), not the Pharisee’s self-listed merits, results in “this man went down to his house ನೀತಿವಂತನೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟನು (justified)” — the baseline’s exact compound phrase must be used without abbreviation; this is Luke’s single clearest justification-by-faith text and a direct enactment of the Critical caution against ಧರ್ಮ or self-attained ನೀತಿ. | Human theologian |
| Grace versus Merit | 18:9-14 | High | Directly paired with justification doctrine above; the Pharisee’s merit-listing (fasting, tithing) is the explicit foil. | Human theologian |
| Reversal Theology: Rich and Poor | 18:18-25 | High | The rich ruler’s sorrowful refusal and Jesus’ “how hard it is for the rich to enter the ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ” continue the reversal theme with a named individual case. | Human theologian |
| Eternal Life and Paradise | 18:18,30 | Critical | The ruler’s question (“what must I do to ನಿತ್ಯಜೀವ ಬಾಧ್ಯಸ್ಥನಾಗಲು/inherit eternal life”) and Jesus’ promise of eternal life “in the age to come” both require the non-mokṣa rendering fixed at 10:25. | Human theologian |
| Cost and Joy of Discipleship | 18:22,28-30 | High | ”Sell all you have… come, ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸು me” and Peter’s “we have left all” — cost of discipleship applied concretely to possessions. | Human theologian |
| Assurance of Salvation / Faith of Jew and Gentile | 18:42 | High | Fourth and final occurrence of the fixed assurance formula (blind beggar); “Son of David” (18:38-39) ties in messianic/Davidic doctrine as well. | Human theologian |
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 18:38-39 | Critical | ”ದಾವೀದನ ಮಗನೇ” (Son of David) as a messianic title used by the blind beggar. | Human theologian |
Chapter 19 — Zacchaeus, Parable of the Minas, Triumphal Entry, Weeping over Jerusalem, Temple Cleansing
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People | 19:9-10 | Critical | ”ಇಂದು ಈ ಮನೆಗೆ ರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಬಂದಿತು” (today salvation has come to this house) and “the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost” — Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector, receives salvation by name; must reuse the fixed “today” rendering from 4:21. | Human theologian |
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 19:1-10 | Critical | Zacchaeus’ restitution follows from, rather than earns, his welcome by Jesus — sequence must be preserved (grace precedes fruit). | Human theologian |
| Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners | 19:5-7 | High | Jesus invites himself to Zacchaeus’ house; the crowd’s grumbling (“he has gone to be the guest of a ಪಾಪಿಗಳು man”) makes the table-fellowship scandal explicit. | Human theologian |
| Son of Man Christology | 19:10 | Critical | ”The Son of Man came to seek and save the lost” — a summary Son-of-Man mission statement. | Human theologian |
| Kingdom of God Present and Future | 19:11-27 (Ten Minas) | High | Parable addresses the delay before the kingdom’s visible consummation, balancing present stewardship against future accounting. | Human theologian |
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 19:28-40 | Critical | Triumphal entry acclamation (“blessed is the king who comes in the name of the ಕರ್ತ”) is a direct messianic/Davidic-kingship fulfillment scene. | Human theologian |
| Lordship of Christ | 19:38 | Critical | ”ಕರ್ತನ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಅರಸನು” — exclusive royal-divine acclamation. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 19:41-44 | High | Jesus weeps over Jerusalem’s coming judgment “because you did not know the time of your visitation (ಪರಾಂಬರಿಸಿದ ಕಾಲ)” — purposive redemptive visitation, not casual event. | Human theologian |
Chapter 20 — Authority Question, Wicked Tenants, Taxes to Caesar, Resurrection Debate, David’s Lord
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sonship of Christ / Deity of Christ | 20:9-18 (wicked tenants) | Critical | The beloved son sent last and killed is an unmistakable Sonship allegory; “the son, the ಪ್ರಿಯ ಮಗ” must retain full Sonship weight distinct from the earlier “servants” (prophets) sent. | Human theologian |
| Kingdom of God Present and Future | 20:20-26 (render to Caesar) | High | Distinguishes God’s sovereign claim from any single earthly political kingdom — relevant to keeping ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ non-political. | Human theologian |
| Resurrection of Christ | 20:27-40 | Critical | The Sadducee debate affirms bodily resurrection (“they are like angels… sons of the resurrection”) against denial of any afterlife; must not be read through a reincarnation lens — the resurrected state is categorically different from, not a repetition of, earthly life. | Human theologian |
| Lordship of Christ | 20:41-44 | Critical | ”David himself calls him ಕರ್ತ; how then can he be David’s son?” — the Davidic-Lord paradox is a direct assertion of Christ’s transcendence over his own human ancestor. | Human theologian |
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 20:41-44 | Critical | Ties directly to the Davidic covenant doctrine established from 1:32-33 onward. | Human theologian |
Chapter 21 — Widow’s Offering, Olivet Discourse, Signs of the End
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reversal Theology: Rich and Poor | 21:1-4 | High | The poor widow’s two coins are commended above the rich donors’ large gifts “out of their abundance” — a direct enactment of reversal theology in worship-giving. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 21:8-24 | High | Predicted historical events (wars, persecutions, Jerusalem’s destruction) unfold within God’s purposive plan, not impersonal fate; must avoid ಹಣೆಬರಹ/ಕರ್ಮದ ನಿಯಮ framing. | Human theologian |
| Son of Man Christology | 21:27,36 | Critical | ”They will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great ಮಹಿಮೆ” — apocalyptic return imagery requiring theologian review. | Human theologian |
| Kingdom of God Present and Future | 21:31 | High | ”When you see these things happening, know that the ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ is near” — future-consummation emphasis balancing the present-kingdom texts of chapters 11 and 17. | Human theologian |
Chapter 22 — Last Supper, New Covenant, Gethsemane, Betrayal, Peter’s Denial, Sanhedrin Trial
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New Covenant and the Lord’s Supper | 22:14-20 | Critical | ”This cup…ಹೊಸ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ (new covenant) in my ರಕ್ತ (blood)” — must be clearly distinguished from prasāda (Hindu ritual food consumption transmitting divine blessing/merit); this is a proclamation-memorial of a completed, unrepeatable atoning death, not an ongoing means of merit-transfer. | Human theologian |
| Prayer and Dependence on God | 22:39-46 | High | Gethsemane prayer (“not my will, but yours, be done”) models trustful submission to the Father, not fatalistic resignation or transactional bargaining. | Human theologian |
| Cost and Joy of Discipleship | 22:31-34,54-62 (Peter warned/denies) | High | ನಿರಾಕರಿಸು (deny) is used in the opposite sense here (denial of Christ) from 9:23’s self-denial — the context-sensitive distinction flagged in the glossary must be enforced. | Human theologian |
| Deity of Christ / Sonship of Christ | 22:66-70 | Critical | ”Are you the Son of God?” “You say that I am” — Jesus’ own trial-testimony affirms his divine Sonship under oath before the Sanhedrin, precipitating the blasphemy charge. | Human theologian |
| Son of Man Christology | 22:22,48,69 | Critical | ”From now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of ದೇವರು” — a climactic exaltation claim. | Human theologian |
| Lordship of Christ | 22:69 | Critical | Right-hand enthronement language directly supports the exclusive-Lordship doctrine. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Divine Necessity | 22:22,37 | High | ”The Son of Man goes as it has been determined… this Scripture must be (δεῖ) fulfilled in me” — Jesus’ death is purposive and Scripture-fulfilling, not accidental or fated impersonally. | Human theologian |
Chapter 23 — Trial, Crucifixion, Words from the Cross, Burial
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 23:34 | Critical | ”ತಂದೆಯೇ, ಇವರನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಮಿಸು” (Father, forgive them) — forgiveness extended even to Jesus’ executioners, the ultimate demonstration of grace-based forgiveness. | Human theologian |
| Eternal Life and Paradise | 23:43 | Critical | ”ಇಂದು ನೀನು ನನ್ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪರದೈಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವೆ” (today you will be with me in paradise) — the repentant criminal receives paradise by grace alone, having performed no meritorious religious act; ಪರದೈಸು preferred over ಸ್ವರ್ಗ to avoid merit-based-heavenly-abode connotations; reuses the fixed ಇಂದು rendering from 4:21. | Human theologian |
| Assurance of Salvation | 23:43 | High | This promise is one of the doctrine’s key supporting texts alongside the fourfold “your faith has saved you” formula. | Human theologian |
| Prayer and Dependence on God | 23:46 | High | ”ತಂದೆಯೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಆತ್ಮವನ್ನು ಒಪ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ” (Father, into your hands I commit my spirit) — trustful relational self-giving in death, not fatalistic resignation. | Human theologian |
| Justification by Faith / Deity of Christ | 23:47 | High | The centurion’s confession “certainly this man was ನೀತಿವಂತ (righteous/innocent)” is both a justice-vindication statement and an implicit witness to Jesus’ true identity. | Human theologian |
| Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 23:35,39 | Critical | Mockery using “the Messiah/Christ” title (ironically true) continues the messianic doctrine even in the crucifixion narrative. | Human theologian |
Chapter 24 — Resurrection, Emmaus Road, Commission, Ascension
| Doctrine | Passages | Risk | Translation Risk Note | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Resurrection of Christ | 24:1-49 | Critical | The empty tomb, angelic proclamation, and multiple appearances are the Gospel’s climactic resurrection unit; ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ throughout, never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ; the risen body that eats (24:41-43) and can be touched (24:39) must be preserved as bodily, historical, once-for-all — not a repeatable spiritual state. | Human theologian |
| Inspiration and Fulfillment of Scripture | 24:25-27,32,44-45 | High | Jesus “opened their minds to understand the ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳು (Scriptures)” and interpreted “all the Scriptures” concerning himself — must be distinguished from ವಚನ (Sharana vachana literature), which is treasured spiritual wisdom but not God-breathed, historically fulfilled Scripture. | Human theologian |
| Christian Fellowship and Mutual Care | 24:13-35 | Low | The Emmaus meal and “breaking of bread” recognition scene — low doctrinal risk, ensure ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ retains shared-participation-in-Christ sense. | Automated review |
| Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins / Unity and Universal Scope of the Gospel | 24:47 | Critical | ”ಮಾನಸಾಂತರ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಪ ಕ್ಷಮೆ…ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನಾಂಗಗಳಿಗೂ (to all nations)” — the Great Commission must reuse, without variation, the exact ಮಾನಸಾಂತರ and ಪಾಪ ಕ್ಷಮೆ renderings fixed since chapters 3–4, now extended explicitly to every nation. | Human theologian |
| Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People | 24:47 | Critical | The commission’s universal scope is the Gospel’s final and clearest statement of this whole-book doctrine. | Human theologian |
| Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History / Ascension and Empowerment for Mission | 24:49 | Critical | ”ಮೇಲಿನಿಂದ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ತನಕ” (until you are clothed with power from on high) — ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ mandatory; never ಶಕ್ತಿ, given the latter’s Chamundeshwari Shakta-tradition associations. | Human theologian |
| Ascension and Empowerment for Mission | 24:50-53 | Critical | Christ’s bodily, historical, once-for-all ascension (ಆರೋಹಣ) must not be conflated with a yogi’s or mystic’s repeatable spiritual ascent of consciousness. | Human theologian |
| Worship Due to Christ | 24:52 | High | The disciples “ಆರಾಧಿಸಿದರು (worshiped) him” — ಆರಾಧಿಸು required, never ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸು, to retain the claim of unique, exclusive worship due to Christ as God. | Human theologian |
| Joy in Salvation | 24:41,52 | Medium | Joy (disbelief for joy at the appearance; great joy after the ascension) — ಸಂತೋಷ, not ಆನಂದ. | Native speaker review |
| Thanksgiving and Gratitude | 24:53 | Low | Continual temple worship/praise following the ascension — standard, low-risk. | Automated review |
Part III — Core Passage Spotlight: Luke 4:16-21
As the curriculum’s theological anchor, Luke 4:16-21 carries the single highest concentration of interlocking Critical and High doctrines in the book and must be finalized as a fixed reference translation before any other Phase 2 segment proceeds:
| Verse | Doctrine(s) Engaged | Fixed Kannada Anchor Term(s) |
|---|---|---|
| 4:18a | Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History | ಕರ್ತನ ಆತ್ಮವು ನನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ಅದೆ |
| 4:18b | Messianic Promise / Fulfillment of Prophecy | ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ (anointed) — mandatory translator note vs. Śaiva abhiṣeka |
| 4:18c | Good News to the Poor and Marginalized | ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ ಸಾರಲು |
| 4:18d | Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins (aphesis wordplay) | ಸೆರೆಯವರಿಗೆ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ (release to captives) |
| 4:19 | Kingdom of God Present and Future | ಕರ್ತನ ಕೃಪಾವರುಷ (year of the Lord’s favor) |
| 4:21 | Messianic Promise / Fulfillment of Prophecy | ಇಂದು ಈ ವಚನ ನೆರವೇರಿತು (today this Scripture is fulfilled) |
This anchor set feeds directly into the cross-document consistency requirements already identified in 08_core_glossary.md Section D and must not be re-derived independently by any downstream Phase 2 worker.
Part IV — Coverage Confirmation
Every chapter of Luke (1–24) has been reviewed above. No chapter was silently omitted. Chapters with especially dense doctrinal load (1, 4, 7, 9, 15, 17, 18, 22, 24) receive proportionally fuller treatment; no chapter’s absence of new terminology occurs in this book — even the driest genealogical and controversy material (e.g., ch. 3’s genealogy, ch. 20’s controversy dialogues) is shown above to carry direct load-bearing doctrinal content. This full-book matrix is fully consistent with, and introduces no doctrine or risk tier absent from, doctrine_risk_registry.json.
This document must be loaded alongside 08_core_glossary.md, doctrine_risk_registry.json (Luke), and the Romans baseline translation_memory.json/bible_term_registry.json as part of the Phase 1 artifact set feeding Phase 2 translation tooling.
Critical Risk Doctrines
Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People (Jew and Gentile, Rich and Poor)
Kannada name: ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನಾಂಗಗಳಿಗೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರಿಗೂ ರಕ್ಷಕನಾದ ಯೇಸು
Key terms: savior, gentiles, poor, rich, faith, samaritan, israel
Review routing: Human theologian
Luke repeatedly commends the faith of Gentiles (the centurion, the Samaritan leper) above that found ‘in Israel,’ and Simeon explicitly names Jesus ‘a light for revelation to the Gentiles’ alongside Israel’s glory. This universal, no-distinction claim has real resonance with the Lingayat reform movement’s own historic rejection of caste hierarchy, but must not be reduced to that movement’s social-reform agenda; the doctrine is that one specific historical Savior, not a social ideal, is for every nation, caste, and economic class without exception. Requires theologian review given its Critical load-bearing role across the whole Gospel.
Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins
Kannada name: ಮಾನಸಾಂತರ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಪ ಕ್ಷಮೆ
Key terms: repentance, forgiveness_of_sins, release_of_captives, baptism, fruit_of_repentance
Review routing: Human theologian
ಮಾನಸಾಂತರ must be distinguished from ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ, the Hindu concept of self-performed ritual expiation that removes sin’s effect through prescribed acts; here forgiveness is received as a gift after a God-ward reorientation, not earned through ritual performance. Additionally, the single Greek word aphesis covers both ‘release’ (4:18) and ‘forgiveness’ (1:77; 3:3; 24:47) — this wordplay is lost when split into ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ and ಪಾಪ ಕ್ಷಮೆ in Kannada, requiring a mandatory translator note at every occurrence and strict cross-passage consistency.
Incarnation
Kannada name: ದೇಹಧಾರಣೆ
Key terms: incarnation, virgin, overshadow, son_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: NEVER ಅವತಾರ, especially salient for readers formed by coastal Karnataka’s Haridasa Krishna-bhakti tradition centered at Udupi. A distinct risk applies to Lingayat-background readers, who reject avatar theology themselves but may instead receive Christ as an exceptionally realized human Sharana figure who attained Aikya, rather than the eternal, uncreated Son uniquely taking on flesh through a literal virginal conception.
Deity of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ದೇವತ್ವ
Key terms: son_of_god, lord, worship, authority
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’ claim to forgive sins (5:20-24, provoking ‘who can forgive sins but God alone’) and the disciples’ exclusive worship of him (24:52, rendered ಆರಾಧಿಸು not ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸು) both assert co-equal, undiminished divine nature — not a divinely-elevated human teacher (the closest available Lingayat category, a Sharana who reached Aikya) and not one devotional lord among several chosen personal deities in Haridasa practice.
Sonship of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ
Key terms: son_of_god, chosen_one
Review routing: Human theologian
Eternal, unique Sonship distinct from Adam’s ‘son of God by creation’ (3:38, requiring a context-disambiguating translator note) and from the general believers’-election doctrine also present in Luke; must never be diluted to a title of honor bestowed on an especially devoted or enlightened figure.
Messianic Promise and Fulfillment of Prophecy
Kannada name: ಮೆಸ್ಸೀಯನ ವಾಗ್ದಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರವಾದನೆಯ ನೆರವೇರಿಕೆ
Key terms: messiah, prophecy, today, scripture, david
Review routing: Human theologian
The ‘today, this Scripture is fulfilled’ announcement (4:21) is a single, historical, once-for-all fulfillment for all peoples — not the cyclical yuga-time of mainstream Hindu cosmology, nor the incremental, individual, stage-by-stage ascent of the Lingayat shatsthala path. The emphatic sentence-initial ‘today’ (sēmeron) must be rendered consistently across 2:11, 4:21, 19:5,9, and 23:43.
Resurrection of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ
Key terms: resurrection, son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: bodily, historical, once-for-all; ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ, never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ. The Sadducee debate (20:34-38) affirms bodily resurrection against denial of any afterlife and must not be read through a reincarnation lens; the resurrected state is categorically different from, not a repetition of, earthly life.
Lordship of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಕರ್ತೃತ್ವ
Key terms: lord, david, son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
ಕರ್ತ must convey a living, exclusive, presently-reigning sovereign — never ಸ್ವಾಮಿ, the common address for a guru or the Lingayat jangama teacher-office, which could suggest one honored teacher among several rather than the exclusive Lord who is also, per 20:41-44, David’s Lord as well as descendant.
Son of Man Christology
Kannada name: ಮನುಷ್ಯಕುಮಾರನ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ
Key terms: son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
ಮನುಷ್ಯಕುಮಾರ is Luke’s most frequent Christological self-title, combining genuine humanity with hidden Danielic apocalyptic authority; it must never be flattened to mean merely ‘a human being’ or ‘a son of Adam’ generically, which would erase its titular, technical, singular force. Given its extremely high frequency, every occurrence requires theologian review.
Justification by Faith
Kannada name: ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ನೀತಿವಂತರೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಯ
Key terms: justification, righteousness, grace
Review routing: Human theologian
The tax collector’s humble plea, not the Pharisee’s self-listed merits, results in God’s forensic declaration of righteousness — a direct enactment of the baseline’s Critical caution against ಧರ್ಮ or ಸ್ವಂತ ಸಾಧನೆಯ ನೀತಿ, explicitly including the self-attained, stage-by-stage Lingayat shatsthala ascent toward Aikya. The exact baseline compound phrase must be used without abbreviation.
New Covenant and the Lord’s Supper
Kannada name: ಹೊಸ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕರ್ತನ ಔತಣ
Key terms: new_covenant, body_blood, covenant
Review routing: Human theologian
The Lord’s Supper must be clearly distinguished from prasada, the Hindu temple practice of consuming food ritually offered to and blessed by a deity to transmit divine grace through the substance; this is a proclamation-memorial of a completed, unrepeatable atoning death sealing a new covenant, not an ongoing means of merit or blessing-transfer.
Ascension and Empowerment for Mission
Kannada name: ಆರೋಹಣ ಮತ್ತು ಸೇವೆಗಾಗಿ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ
Key terms: ascension, clothed_with_power, worship, power_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s bodily, historical, once-for-all ascension must not be conflated with a yogi’s or mystic’s repeatable spiritual ascent of consciousness (e.g., kundalini ascent); and the promised empowerment ‘from on high’ must use ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ, never ಶಕ್ತಿ, given the latter’s association with Karnataka’s prominent Chamundeshwari Shakta tradition.
Eternal Life and Paradise
Kannada name: ನಿತ್ಯಜೀವ ಮತ್ತು ಪರದೈಸು
Key terms: eternal_life, paradise, hades, redemption
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: ನಿತ್ಯಜೀವ and ಪರದೈಸು must never be assimilated to mokṣa/mukti (release from the rebirth cycle) or to the Hindu cosmology of svarga (a temporary, merit-earned heavenly abode) and naraka (a temporary, karma-purifying hell preceding rebirth). Luke 16:26’s ‘great chasm…fixed’ depicts a permanent, conscious, unbridgeable state, and the dying criminal in 23:43 receives paradise by grace alone, having performed no meritorious religious act.
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
Kannada name: ಪವಿತ್ರಾತ್ಮನ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ದೂಷಣೆ
Key terms: blasphemy_against_holy_spirit, holy_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
The one unforgivable sin must not be reduced to a vague formula detached from its specific referent — a willful, settled rejection of the Spirit’s testimony to Christ — and requires careful, non-sensationalized handling to avoid either trivializing or wrongly applying it pastorally.
High Risk Doctrines
The Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History
Kannada name: ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಪವಿತ್ರಾತ್ಮನ ಕಾರ್ಯ
Key terms: holy_spirit, overshadow, anointed, power_of_god, clothed_with_power
Review routing: Human theologian
The Spirit’s active, personal, purposive work in conception, empowerment, and commissioning must never be rendered with ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ (the impersonal Vedantic Universal Self) nor described using ಶಕ್ತಿ-based empowerment language, which in Karnataka evokes the distinct devotional-feminine power of the prominent Chamundeshwari Shakta tradition centered at Mysore.
Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Kannada name: ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವವರಿಗೆ ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ
Key terms: poor, blessed, woe, rich, gospel
Review routing: Human theologian
ಬಡವರು must retain Luke’s insistence on actual economic and social poverty as the first-named addressee of the gospel, not be spiritualized into a purely metaphorical ‘humble in spirit’ reading that loses the concrete social reversal Luke repeatedly teaches (rich sent away empty, poor exalted).
Prayer and Dependence on God
Kannada name: ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮತ್ತು ದೇವರ ಮೇಲಿನ ಅವಲಂಬನೆ
Key terms: prayer, ask_seek_knock, good_portion, commit_my_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’ pattern of dependent, relational prayer to a personal Father must be distinguished from puja/harake vow-bargaining practices common at Karnataka shrines (where a vow or offering is promised in exchange for a granted favor) and from the meditative discipline of engaging the ishtalinga in Lingayat devotion; prayer here is confident child-to-Father address, not transactional exchange.
The Kingdom of God Present and Future
Kannada name: ವರ್ತಮಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ
Key terms: kingdom_of_god, kingdom_near, kingdom_within_among_you, today, son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
The already/not-yet tension is doctrinally essential and must not collapse into either a purely future political hope or a purely inward, already-fully-realized mystical state. Luke 17:21’s ‘kingdom…entos hymon’ is a particular flashpoint given its potential collision with Lingayat ishtalinga-indwelling theology and the Vedantic antaryamin doctrine of an indwelling divine Self; ‘ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ’ (in your midst) is the safer default given the hostile Pharisee audience.
The Cost and Joy of Discipleship
Kannada name: ಶಿಷ್ಯತ್ವದ ಬೆಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂತೋಷ
Key terms: disciple, follow, cross, deny_self, hate_priority_idiom, joy
Review routing: Human theologian
The ‘hate father/mother’ idiom (14:26) is a Semitic comparative-priority expression, not a literal command, and requires an idiom-handling translator note to avoid either a false literal reading or a softened loss of Christ’s absolute claim. The accompanying joy of discipleship must use ಸಂತೋಷ, not ಆನಂದ, to avoid the latter’s strong Vedantic/bhakti mystical-bliss connotations.
Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners
Kannada name: ಪಾಪಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಯೇಸುವಿನ ಕರುಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಔತಣ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ
Key terms: table_fellowship, sinners, tax_collector, compassion, neighbor, samaritan
Review routing: Human theologian
Shared eating across social/purity/status boundaries is a live, high-stakes marker in Karnataka given persistent caste-conditioned commensality norms (who may cook for, serve, or dine with whom). Jesus’ table fellowship with ‘sinners’ is a direct, deliberate boundary-crossing act that must not be softened into generic hospitality; it must retain its full social scandal while being framed pastorally as invitation rather than confrontation.
Grace versus Merit
Kannada name: ಕೃಪೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವಂತ ಸಾಧನೆಯ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸ
Key terms: grace, justification, righteousness, lost_and_found
Review routing: Human theologian
Unmerited favor stands against both the karma-merit economy of popular Hindu devotion and the Lingayat kayaka-dasoha ethic, where right standing is demonstrated through disciplined sacred work and generous sharing. Luke 18:9-14’s tax collector, justified through humble plea rather than the Pharisee’s self-listed merits, is one of Luke’s clearest grace-not-merit texts.
Faith of Jew and Gentile
Kannada name: ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರ ಮತ್ತು ಅನ್ಯಜನಾಂಗದವರ ನಂಬಿಕೆ
Key terms: faith, samaritan, gentiles
Review routing: Human theologian
ನಂಬಿಕೆ must convey personal trust placed in Jesus specifically, not the devotional surrender (bhakti) a Haridasa devotee directs toward Krishna; Luke repeatedly commends this specific trust in Gentiles and Samaritans above native Israelite response, reinforcing the doctrine that ethnicity is irrelevant to the object and efficacy of saving faith.
Unity and Universal Scope of the Gospel
Kannada name: ಸುವಾರ್ತೆಯ ಏಕತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾರ್ವತ್ರಿಕತೆ
Key terms: gentiles, israel, gospel, gospel_to_all_nations
Review routing: Human theologian
No caste, ethnic, or geographic barrier limits the gospel’s reach — a claim with real resonance in Karnataka given the Lingayat reform movement’s own historic rejection of caste hierarchy, though caste distinctions persist socially; the universal invitation of the great banquet parable (14:15-24, extending finally to ‘the roads and hedges’) must retain its full climactic inclusivity without cultural narrowing.
Sanctification and Holiness
Kannada name: ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾವಿತ್ರ್ಯ
Key terms: holy, saints
Review routing: Human theologian
ಪವಿತ್ರ conveys moral and relational set-apartness for God, not merely ritual purity; Jesus’ woes against Pharisees who cleanse the outside of the cup (11:39-41) directly warn against substituting ritual precision for genuine inner holiness.
Divine Calling and Election
Kannada name: ದೇವರ ಕರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆಯ್ಕೆ
Key terms: called, calling, election, chosen_one
Review routing: Human theologian
God’s initiating, sovereign call and choice must be distinguished from the devotee-initiated entry into and progression through the Lingayat shatsthala stages, and never rendered with ಹಣೆಬರಹ (the vivid Kannada fatalism idiom, literally ‘forehead-writing’) or ವಿಧಿ (impersonal destiny).
Providence and Divine Necessity
Kannada name: ದೇವರ ಪರಿಪಾಲನೆ ಮತ್ತು ದೈವಿಕ ಅಗತ್ಯ
Key terms: providence, divine_necessity
Review routing: Human theologian
The recurring dei (‘it is necessary’) pattern expresses God’s personal, purposive plan, not an impersonal, unchangeable fate. This is highly vulnerable to being absorbed into ಹಣೆಬರಹ (fatalism) or ಕರ್ಮದ ನಿಯಮ (the impersonal law of karma), both common everyday explanatory frameworks in Kannada speech for why events happen.
Assurance of Salvation
Kannada name: ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಭರವಸೆ
Key terms: salvation, faith, today
Review routing: Human theologian
The formulaic ‘your faith has saved you; go in peace’ (recurring at 7:50; 8:48; 17:19; 18:42) and the promise of Paradise to the repentant criminal (23:43) ground assurance in God’s own settled word, not the uncertain, incremental progress of the Lingayat shatsthala path toward eventual Aikya; these renderings must be verbatim consistent across all occurrences.
Baptism and Repentance
Kannada name: ದೀಕ್ಷಾಸ್ನಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನಸಾಂತರ
Key terms: baptism, repentance, forgiveness_of_sins
Review routing: Human theologian
ದೀಕ್ಷೆ is precisely the term for guru-lineage initiation in Karnataka religion, most concretely the Lingayat linga-dikshe bestowing the personal ishtalinga; catechesis must clarify that Christian baptism is a once-for-all public identification with repentance, not entry into an ongoing guru-directed spiritual-attainment path.
Authority Over Evil Spirits
Kannada name: ದುರಾತ್ಮಗಳ ಮೇಲಿನ ಅಧಿಕಾರ
Key terms: unclean_spirit, authority, finger_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
Coastal and rural Karnataka’s living Bhuta Kola tradition involves ritual propitiation and negotiation with spirit-beings through possession and offerings; Jesus’ exorcism narratives must not be assimilated to this framework, since he expels unclean spirits by sovereign command rather than negotiating with, honoring, or feeding them.
Reversal Theology: Rich and Poor, First and Last
Kannada name: ಧನಿಕ-ಬಡವರ ಮತ್ತು ಮೊದಲಿಗ-ಕಡೆಯವರ ಹಿಮ್ಮುಖ ಸಿದ್ಧಾಂತ
Key terms: blessed, woe, rich, poor, mammon
Review routing: Human theologian
Luke’s sustained reversal motif (the humble exalted, the rich humbled) must be preserved as a real historical and social claim about status before God, not softened into a generic moral lesson about humility divorced from Luke’s specific concern for actual economic poverty and social marginalization.
Inspiration and Fulfillment of Scripture
Kannada name: ಪವಿತ್ರ ಗ್ರಂಥದ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ನೆರವೇರಿಕೆ
Key terms: scripture, prophet, prophecy, today
Review routing: Human theologian
ಗ್ರಂಥ (Scripture) must be distinguished from ವಚನ, the term for the inspired-but-not-scriptural vachana literature of the Veerashaiva Sharana poet-saints, which is genuinely treasured as spiritual wisdom born of mystical experience but categorically different from God-breathed, historically fulfilled Scripture.
Worship Due to Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನಿಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲತಕ್ಕ ಆರಾಧನೆ
Key terms: worship, lord, son_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
The disciples’ worship of the risen and ascending Christ must be rendered ಆರಾಧಿಸು, not ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸು, since ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ functions in everyday Kannada as a generic respectful gesture offered to elders, deities, and revered teachers alike, and would understate the text’s claim of unique, exclusive worship due to Christ as God.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Joy in Salvation
Kannada name: ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂತೋಷ
Key terms: joy
Review routing: Native speaker review
ಆನಂದ carries strong Vedantic/bhakti ‘mystical bliss/union’ connotations (sat-chit-ananda; Krishna-prema-ananda; Aikya-bliss) that could reframe gospel joy as a state of mystical absorption; ಸಂತೋಷ is preferred throughout to keep joy relational and tied to specific historical events of salvation.
Apostleship and Sent Ministry
Kannada name: ಅಪೊಸ್ತಲತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಕಳುಹಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಸೇವೆ
Key terms: apostle, mission
Review routing: Native speaker review
Risk of apostleship or the sending of the Seventy collapsing into the Lingayat jangama wandering-teacher office or a generic guru role recognized for personal spiritual attainment, rather than a commissioned, delegated sending under Christ’s authority.
Low Risk Doctrines
Thanksgiving and Gratitude
Kannada name: ಕೃತಜ್ಞತಾಸ್ತುತಿ
Key terms: thanksgiving
Review routing: Automated review
Standard term; the healed Samaritan leper’s return to give thanks carries mild risk of over-ritualization but no significant doctrinal collision.
Christian Fellowship and Mutual Care
Kannada name: ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಕಾಳಜಿ
Key terms: fellowship, good_portion
Review routing: Automated review
Shared table and shared listening to Jesus’ word (Martha and Mary; the Emmaus meal) carry low doctrinal risk beyond ensuring ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ is not reduced to mere social or caste-community association.
