Doctrine Analysis
Hebrews — Full Doctrine Matrix (English → Kannada)
1. Purpose
Hebrews’ argument is cumulative: the superiority of Christ (over angels, Moses, and the Levitical priesthood) builds toward the core passage (9:11-28), the once-for-all high-priestly sacrifice, and then issues in warning, perseverance, and worship material (10-13). Because the doctrinal chain is cumulative, a lexical slip early (e.g., ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ inconsistently used for “better/superior” in ch.1 vs. ch.7) can silently weaken the chapter-9 payload. This matrix therefore tracks every doctrine across its full distribution of supporting passages in Hebrews, not only the core passage.
Risk tiers, doctrine IDs, and kannada_doctrine_name strings below are copied verbatim from
assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json and MUST NOT be re-adjudicated in this document.
2. Full Doctrine Matrix
| # | Doctrine (ID) | Kannada Doctrine Name | Risk | Supporting Passages (Hebrews) | Translation Risk (grounded reason) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Superiority of Christ over Angels (superiority_over_angels) | ದೇವದೂತರ ಮೇಲೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ | Critical | 1:1-14; 2:5-9 | Kannada readers carry an active devotional cosmology of devas as intercessory/propitiable beings; unless ದೇವದೂತ is kept grammatically and theologically subordinate (angels ಆರಾಧಿಸು the Son, not vice versa), the passage’s own explicit worship-direction can be inverted in the reader’s mental model. | Human theologian |
| 2 | The Superiority of Christ over Moses (superiority_over_moses) | ಮೋಶೆಗಿಂತ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ | High | 3:1-6 | Moses is near-universally honored; if ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ (“better”) reads as mere degree (“more excellent teacher”) rather than the house-builder/house-member category distinction 3:3-6 requires, the argument flattens into rank-comparison between two venerable holy men. | Human theologian |
| 3 | The Superiority of Christ over the Levitical Priesthood (superiority_over_levitical_priesthood) | ಲೇವಿಯ ಯಾಜಕತ್ವದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ | High | 7:1-28; 8:1-7 | ಶಾಶ್ವತ (“permanent”) must convey unbroken, successor-less permanence (7:23-24), not merely “long-lasting”; a weaker rendering collapses the mortality-vs-permanence contrast the chapter is built on. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Christ as the Great High Priest (christ_as_great_high_priest) | ಮಹಾಯಾಜಕನಾದ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ | Critical | 2:17; 4:14-16; 5:1-10; 7:23-28; 9:11-14, 24 | ಮಹಾಯಾಜಕ must never drift toward ಪುರೋಹಿತ/ಪುಜಾರಿ (Hindu temple ritual specialist performing puja before an image); that substitution recasts Christ as one functionary within an ongoing ritual economy rather than the unique, final priest the book argues for. | Human theologian |
| 5 | The Order of Melchizedek (melchizedekian_priesthood) | ಮೆಲ್ಕಿಜೆದೇಕನ ಕ್ರಮದ ಯಾಜಕತ್ವ | High | 5:6, 10; 6:20; 7:1-22 | Melchizedek’s untraceable origin risks being mapped onto a guru-paramparā lineage or a self-realized Sharana figure whose authority is personally attained; the required translator note must anchor his priesthood as divinely appointed and typological, not a model of spiritual self-attainment. | Human theologian |
| 6 | Deity of Christ (deity_of_christ) | ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ದೇವತ್ವ | Critical | 1:3; 1:6, 8-12; 9:14 | ಮಹಿಮೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾಶ (“radiance of glory”) is exposed to bhakti mystical-illumination and Veerashaiva jyoti imagery describing a devotee’s gradual approach to Parashiva; 1:3 requires undiminished, eternally co-existent glory, not an attainable illuminated state. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Sonship of Christ (sonship_of_christ) | ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ | Critical | 1:2-5; 5:5, 8; 7:3 | 12:23’s corporate ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಪುತ್ರ (“firstborn”) applied to believers must not blur into or diminish the unique, singular, eternal Sonship established in ch.1; requires a standing cross-reference note wherever both senses occur near one another. | Human theologian |
| 8 | Incarnation and Humanity of Christ (incarnation_and_humanity_of_christ) | ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ದೇಹಧಾರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನವತ್ವ | Critical | 2:14-18; 4:15; 5:7-8; 10:5-7 | Never ಅವತಾರ, especially salient given coastal Karnataka’s Udupi-centered Haridasa Krishna-bhakti tradition; 2:14’s “partook of the same things” must be read as one real, permanent assumption of humanity, not a temporary or repeatable divine descent. | Human theologian |
| 9 | Resurrection of Christ (resurrection_of_christ) | ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ | Critical | 6:2; 11:19, 35; 13:20 | ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ, never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ; 13:20’s “blood of the eternal covenant” depends on resurrection being a one-time historical event ending death, not another turn of a rebirth cycle. | Human theologian |
| 10 | The New Covenant versus the Old (new_covenant_versus_old) | ಹೊಸ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹಳೆಯ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ | Critical | 7:22; 8:6-13; 9:1-22; 10:1, 16-18; 12:24 | No structural equivalent exists in Hindu, Haridasa-bhakti, or Lingayat frameworks; ಹಳೆಯದಾಗಿಸು must communicate genuine supersession (not neutral aging), and the new covenant must be read as internal/Spirit-written, not a renewed external ritual arrangement. | Human theologian |
| 11 | The Once-for-All Atoning Sacrifice (once_for_all_atoning_sacrifice) | ಒಂದೇ ಸಲ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಂಡ ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ ಬಲಿ | Critical | 7:27; 9:12, 25-28; 10:1-14 | ಒಂದೇ ಸಲ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೂ must be identical at every occurrence; inconsistency risks readers hearing Christ’s sacrifice as merely an excellent instance within an ongoing sacrificial economy, echoing the repeated propitiatory blood-offering pattern familiar from Shakta practice. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Propitiation and Atonement (propitiation_and_atonement) | ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಪ ಪರಿಹಾರ | Critical | 2:17; 9:5; 9:22 | ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ is an established general-Hindu word for self-performed penance/expiation (austerity, pilgrimage, ritual); every occurrence requires a mandatory translator note that this is God’s own gracious provision accomplished BY Christ ON BEHALF OF the people, never a penance the sinner performs. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Access to God through Christ’s Blood (access_to_god_through_christs_blood) | ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ರಕ್ತದ ಮೂಲಕ ದೇವರ ಸಾನ್ನಿಧ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶ | High | 4:16; 9:11-14; 10:19-22; 12:22-24 | ಧೈರ್ಯ/ಸಮೀಪಿಸು must convey unmediated, permanently opened boldness of approach, sharply contrasting Vedic sacrificial religion, temple protocol, and caste-graded ritual access, where nearness to the divine presence is restricted or staged. | Human theologian |
| 14 | Type and Fulfillment (Shadow, Copy, and Reality) (type_and_fulfillment) | ಛಾಯೆ, ಪ್ರತಿರೂಪ ಮತ್ತು ಸತ್ಯಸ್ವರೂಪದ ನೆರವೇರಿಕೆ | High | 8:5; 9:23-24; 10:1 | Must be kept distinct from the Advaita Vedanta picture of the visible world as māyā (illusory shadow-projection of an impersonal Absolute); Hebrews’ ಛಾಯೆ is a real, divinely instituted historical preview of an equally real, personal, now-accomplished heavenly fulfillment. | Human theologian |
| 15 | The Promised Rest of God (promised_rest_of_god) | ದೇವರ ವಾಗ್ದಾನದ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ | High | 3:7-19; 4:1-11 | ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ closely echoes moksha’s release from samsaric striving and risks assimilation to the Lingayat Aikya-state’s promise of final settled union; this rest must be taught as relational, by-faith, with the believer remaining a distinct person in ongoing covenant relationship. | Human theologian |
| 16 | The Danger of Apostasy and Warning Passages (danger_of_apostasy) | ಭ್ರಷ್ಟತೆಯ ಅಪಾಯ ಮತ್ತು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯ ವಚನಗಳು | Critical | 3:12-14; 6:4-8; 10:26-31; 12:15-17 | Never compound apostasy vocabulary with ಧರ್ಮ; these are the most pastorally severe, interpretively debated passages in the book, and graphic images (e.g., “re-crucifying” the Son, 6:6) must not be softened for comfort. | Human theologian |
| 17 | Perseverance and Assurance (perseverance_and_assurance) | ಸ್ಥಿರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಭರವಸೆ | High | 6:11-19; 10:23, 35-39; 12:1-11 | ಸಹನೆ and ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆ must convey active, hope-fueled steadfastness grounded in God’s own oath and unchanging character, not passive resignation or fatalistic acceptance of a karmic lot. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Faith of the Old Testament Saints (faith_of_old_testament_saints) | ಹಳೆಯ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆಯ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಜನರ ನಂಬಿಕೆ | Medium | 11:1-40 | The roll call celebrates faith in specific historical promises of a personal God, not a generalized devotional-exemplar list comparable to Sharana poet-saints or Haridasa dasas; proper-name transliterations must follow established Kannada Bible convention consistently. | Native speaker review |
| 19 | Divine (Fatherly) Discipline (divine_discipline) | ದೇವರ ತಂದೆಯಂತಹ ಶಿಸ್ತು | Medium | 12:5-11 | ಶಿಸ್ತು must read as purposeful, loving, formative training from a personal adoptive Father, not karmic retribution or impersonal cause-and-effect; avoid any rendering suggesting mere ಶಿಕ್ಷೆ (penalty). | Native speaker review |
| 20 | Sanctification and the Cleansed Conscience (sanctification_and_conscience) | ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ ಮತ್ತು ಶುದ್ಧಗೊಂಡ ಮನಸ್ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ | High | 9:13-14; 10:10, 14, 22, 29; 12:14; 13:12 | 9:13-14 requires two distinct Kannada terms in the same passage — outward ceremonial ಶುದ್ಧೀಕರಣ vs. inward conscience-level ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ/ಪವಿತ್ರಗೊಳಿಸು; collapsing both into one word destroys the lesser-to-greater argument central to the core passage. | Human theologian |
| 21 | Christ’s Covenant Mediation and Ongoing Intercession (covenant_mediator_and_intercession) | ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆಯ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರಂತರ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆ | High | 7:22, 25; 8:6; 9:15; 12:24 | ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥ must be marked singular and exclusive; Haridasa-bhakti readers may expect a guru or chosen personal deity as devotional go-between, and Lingayat readers the ಜಂಗಮ office bridging devotee and Shiva — Christ is the sole, sufficient mediator of the one new covenant. | Human theologian |
| 22 | Final Judgment and Christ’s Second Coming (judgment_and_second_coming) | ಅಂತಿಮ ನ್ಯಾಯವಿಚಾರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಆಗಮನ | High | 9:27-28; 10:27, 30-31 | ಅಪೋಕೈಟೈ (“it is appointed”) must never be rendered ಹಣೆಬರಹ (forbidden fatalism idiom); “a second time” must denote one still-future bodily return (guarding against a repeated-avatar-descent reading), and “end of the ages” a single linear hinge-point, not cyclical yuga cosmology. | Human theologian |
| 23 | Church and Mutual Exhortation (church_and_mutual_exhortation) | ಸಭೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ | Medium | 3:13; 10:24-25; 12:23; 13:1, 7, 17 | Names a new-covenant community, not a caste-segregated assembly or building-based ritual institution; leadership vocabulary (ನಾಯಕರು) should avoid guru-status overtones. | Native speaker review |
| 24 | Pilgrim Identity and the Heavenly City (pilgrim_identity_and_heavenly_city) | ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ಗುರುತು ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವರ್ಗೀಯ ನಗರ | Medium | 11:10, 13-16; 12:22; 13:14 | Must be read as a real, promised, future place, not an allegorical inner state attained through meditative discipline; render consistently as one sustained theme across chs. 11-13. | Native speaker review |
| 25 | Sacrifice of Praise and Ethical Worship (sacrifice_of_praise_ethical_worship) | ಸ್ತೋತ್ರ ಬಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ನೈತಿಕ ಆರಾಧನೆ | Low | 13:15-16 | Minor risk that ಬಲಿಪೀಠ could be read as an ongoing literal cultic site rather than the metaphorical, already-accomplished reality the closing exhortation intends. | Automated review |
| 26 | Inheritance through Sonship (inheritance_and_sonship) | ಪುತ್ರತ್ವದ ಮೂಲಕ ಸ್ವಾಸ್ತ್ಯ | Medium | 1:2, 4, 14; 6:12, 17; 9:15; 11:7-9 | ಸ್ವಾಸ್ತ್ಯ must retain the sense of a gift received through covenant sonship, not merit or labor — consistent with the Romans-baseline guardrail already fixed for ದತ್ತು ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ. | Native speaker review |
| 27 | The Living and Active Word of God (word_of_god_living_and_active) | ಜೀವಸ್ವರೂಪ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರ್ಯಶಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳ ದೇವರ ವಚನ | Medium | 4:12-13 | Must be understood as personal, active self-disclosure judging the heart, not a generic “sacred utterance” or mantra whose power lies in ritually correct recitation. | Native speaker review |
Tier totals (must match doctrine_risk_registry.json): Critical = 10, High = 10, Medium = 6, Low = 1 (27 doctrines total); theologian review = 20; native speaker review = 6; automated only = 1.
3. Chapter-by-Chapter Coverage Walkthrough
Every chapter of Hebrews (1-13) is reviewed below against the doctrine matrix. Full-book coverage is mandatory per PRD; chapters are listed even where their doctrinal load is lighter, with an explicit note in each case.
Hebrews 1 — The Son’s Superiority over Angels; His Deity and Sonship
Active doctrines: #1 Superiority over Angels (Critical), #6 Deity of Christ (Critical), #7 Sonship of Christ (Critical), #26 Inheritance through Sonship (Medium). This chapter sets the register for the whole book’s Christology; any softening here (light-emanation imagery, angel status) propagates downstream. Reviewed — heavy Critical load.
Hebrews 2 — Incarnation, Solidarity with Humanity, Propitiation Introduced
Active doctrines: #4 Christ as Great High Priest (Critical, introduced at 2:17), #8 Incarnation and Humanity of Christ (Critical), #12 Propitiation and Atonement (Critical, 2:17), #1 Superiority over Angels (continued, 2:5-9). Reviewed — first appearance of ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ ಬಲಿ; mandatory translator note applies from this chapter forward.
Hebrews 3 — Superiority over Moses; First Warning; Promised Rest Begins
Active doctrines: #2 Superiority over Moses (High), #15 Promised Rest of God (High, 3:7-19), #16 Danger of Apostasy (Critical, 3:12-14), #23 Church and Mutual Exhortation (Medium, 3:13). Reviewed — house-builder/house-member argument (3:3-6) flagged for theologian review.

Hebrews 5 — Christ’s Priestly Qualification; Introduction of Melchizedek
Active doctrines: #4 Christ as Great High Priest (Critical), #5 Order of Melchizedek (High, 5:6, 10). Reviewed — this chapter also carries the ὑπόστασις-adjacent maturity/perfection vocabulary (5:14) tracked under Core Glossary §B5, not a separate doctrine entry.
Hebrews 6 — Second Warning; Perseverance; Melchizedek Continued; Resurrection Reference
Active doctrines: #16 Danger of Apostasy (Critical, 6:4-8), #17 Perseverance and Assurance (High, 6:11-19), #5 Order of Melchizedek (High, 6:20), #9 Resurrection of Christ (Critical, 6:2), #26 Inheritance through Sonship (Medium, 6:12, 17). Reviewed — “re-crucifying” the Son (6:6) flagged for graphic-force preservation.
Hebrews 7 — Melchizedek’s Order; Superiority over Levitical Priesthood; Mediator
Active doctrines: #5 Order of Melchizedek (High), #3 Superiority over Levitical Priesthood (High), #4 Christ as Great High Priest (Critical, 7:23-28), #21 Covenant Mediator and Intercession (High, 7:22, 25), #11 Once-for-All Atoning Sacrifice (Critical, first full statement at 7:27). Reviewed — heaviest concentration of priesthood vocabulary in the book; ಶಾಶ್ವತ permanence argument central here.
Hebrews 8 — New Covenant Announced; Old Covenant Made Obsolete; Copy and Shadow Introduced
Active doctrines: #10 New Covenant versus the Old (Critical, 8:6-13), #3 Superiority over Levitical Priesthood (High, 8:1-7), #14 Type and Fulfillment (High, 8:5), #21 Covenant Mediator and Intercession (High, 8:6). Reviewed — ಹಳೆಯದಾಗಿಸು supersession force flagged.
Hebrews 9 — CORE PASSAGE: The Great High Priest’s Once-for-All Sacrifice, New Covenant Blood, Access
Active doctrines (near-total convergence of the book’s argument): #4 Christ as Great High Priest (Critical, 9:11-14, 24), #10 New Covenant versus the Old (Critical, 9:1-22), #11 Once-for-All Atoning Sacrifice (Critical, 9:12, 25-28), #12 Propitiation and Atonement (Critical, 9:5, 22), #13 Access to God through Christ’s Blood (High, 9:11-14), #14 Type and Fulfillment (High, 9:23-24), #20 Sanctification and the Cleansed Conscience (High, 9:13-14), #21 Covenant Mediator and Intercession (High, 9:15), #22 Final Judgment and Second Coming (High, 9:27-28), #26 Inheritance through Sonship (Medium, 9:15). Reviewed in full as the theological anchor of the curriculum; every Critical-tier doctrine in the matrix except Superiority-over-Angels/Moses, Deity/Sonship, Incarnation, Resurrection-of-Christ, and Danger-of-Apostasy is either introduced or reaches its fullest statement in this chapter. The 9:13-14 dual-cleansing distinction (ceremonial vs. conscience) and the 9:16-17 covenant/testament wordplay both require translator notes per Core Glossary §D.
Hebrews 10 — Sacrifice’s Superiority Restated; Third and Sharpest Warning; Perseverance Renewed
Active doctrines: #11 Once-for-All Atoning Sacrifice (Critical, 10:1-14), #10 New Covenant versus the Old (Critical, 10:1, 16-18), #13 Access to God through Christ’s Blood (High, 10:19-22), #14 Type and Fulfillment (High, 10:1), #16 Danger of Apostasy (Critical, 10:26-31), #17 Perseverance and Assurance (High, 10:23, 35-39), #20 Sanctification and the Cleansed Conscience (High, 10:10, 14, 22, 29), #22 Final Judgment and Second Coming (High, 10:27, 30-31), #23 Church and Mutual Exhortation (Medium, 10:24-25). Reviewed — this is the direct doctrinal outworking of chapter 9 and carries equal density.
Hebrews 11 — Faith of the Old Testament Saints; Pilgrim Identity
Active doctrines: #18 Faith of Old Testament Saints (Medium, entire chapter), #24 Pilgrim Identity and Heavenly City (Medium, 11:10, 13-16), #9 Resurrection of Christ (Critical, 11:19, 35, by typological anticipation). Reviewed — proper-name transliteration consistency flagged (Core Glossary §C).
Hebrews 12 — Warning Renewed; Fatherly Discipline; Perseverance; Heavenly Zion; Corporate Firstborn
Active doctrines: #16 Danger of Apostasy (Critical, 12:15-17), #17 Perseverance and Assurance (High, 12:1-11), #19 Divine Discipline (Medium, 12:5-11), #7 Sonship of Christ (Critical, corporate-firstborn cross-reference at 12:23), #24 Pilgrim Identity and Heavenly City (Medium, 12:22), #10 New Covenant versus the Old (Critical, 12:24), #21 Covenant Mediator and Intercession (High, 12:24), #23 Church and Mutual Exhortation (Medium, 12:23). Reviewed — the 12:23 ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಪುತ್ರ cross-reference note (vs. ch.1 Sonship) is mandatory here.
Hebrews 13 — Closing Exhortations; Sacrifice of Praise; Pilgrim City; Eternal Covenant Blood
Active doctrines: #25 Sacrifice of Praise and Ethical Worship (Low, 13:15-16), #23 Church and Mutual Exhortation (Medium, 13:1, 7, 17), #24 Pilgrim Identity and Heavenly City (Medium, 13:14), #9 Resurrection of Christ (Critical, 13:20 “blood of the eternal covenant”), #20 Sanctification and the Cleansed Conscience (High, 13:12). Reviewed — closing chapter’s ಬಲಿಪೀಠ metaphor-vs-literal-site risk flagged as the book’s sole Low-tier item.
Coverage confirmation: All 13 chapters of Hebrews have been reviewed above; every chapter contributes at least one doctrine from the matrix, and none is silently omitted.
4. Cross-Cutting Baseline Doctrines Carried from Romans (No Re-Adjudication)
The following Romans-baseline doctrines remain in force throughout Hebrews wherever their key terms
recur (see Core Glossary §A) and are governed entirely by the existing baseline
doctrine_risk_registry.json (Romans) entries — they are NOT re-tiered here, only flagged as
present so Phase 2 reviewers know to apply the existing baseline guardrails:
| Baseline doctrine (Romans registry) | Recurs in Hebrews chapters | Governing baseline entry |
|---|---|---|
| Gospel | 2, 4 (implicitly, “good news” of rest/promise) | gospel |
| Grace | 2, 4, 10, 12, 13 | grace |
| Faith | 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13 | faith |
| Salvation | 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9 | salvation |
| Sin | 1-13 (pervasive) | sin |
| Sanctification | 2, 9, 10, 12, 13 | sanctification (extended in this book by doctrine #20 above) |
| Sainthood / Saints | 13 | sainthood |
| Providence | 1 (implicit, “upholding all things,” 1:3) | providence |
| Universal Human Accountability | 2 (implicit, “how shall we escape,” 2:1-3) | universal_human_accountability |
These baseline rows are listed for completeness of full-book coverage only; no tier or wording is altered from the Romans package.

Critical Risk Doctrines
The Superiority of Christ over Angels
Kannada name: ದೇವದೂತರ ಮೇಲೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ
Key terms: angel, worship, radiance_of_glory, exact_imprint_of_nature, son_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
Kannada readers bring a rich devotional cosmology of devas (celestial beings routinely petitioned or propitiated in popular worship). If ದೇವದೂತ is not sharply subordinated to ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ, readers risk assimilating angels to legitimate objects of devotion, undermining the chapter’s explicit statement that angels themselves worship (ಆರಾಧಿಸು) the Son and are merely ‘ministering spirits’ sent to serve him.
Christ as the Great High Priest
Kannada name: ಮಹಾಯಾಜಕನಾದ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ
Key terms: high_priest, priest, mediator, to_offer, draw_near_to_god
Review routing: Human theologian
ಮಹಾಯಾಜಕ must never shift toward ಪುರೋಹಿತ/ಪುಜಾರಿ, the words for a Hindu temple ritual specialist performing puja to an image; that substitution would recast Christ’s unique, final priesthood as one more temple functionary within an ongoing ritual system, destroying the book’s central Christological claim.
Deity of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ದೇವತ್ವ
Key terms: radiance_of_glory, exact_imprint_of_nature, worship, son_of_god, lord
Review routing: Human theologian
The light-emanation vocabulary of 1:3 (ಮಹಿಮೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾಶ) is exceptionally exposed to bhakti mystical-illumination and Veerashaiva jyoti imagery of a soul’s gradual approach to Parashiva; the doctrine requires that the Son’s glory be undiminished and eternally co-existent with the Father’s, not a state a devotee approaches or attains.
Sonship of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ
Key terms: son_of_god, firstborn_corporate
Review routing: Human theologian
Chapter 12:23’s corporate application of ‘firstborn’ (ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಪುತ್ರ) to all believers must not be allowed to blur or diminish the unique, singular, eternal Sonship established for Christ alone in chapter 1; a standing cross-reference note is required wherever both are near each other.
Incarnation and Humanity of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ದೇಹಧಾರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನವತ್ವ
Key terms: incarnation, unblemished
Review routing: Human theologian
Never ಅವತಾರ, especially salient for coastal Karnataka’s Haridasa Krishna-bhakti tradition centered at Udupi. Hebrews 2’s insistence that Christ ‘partook of the same things’ as those he saves must be read as one, real, permanent assumption of humanity, not a temporary or repeatable avatar-descent.
Resurrection of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ
Key terms: resurrection, eternal
Review routing: Human theologian
ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ, never ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ. Hebrews 13:20’s climactic ‘blood of the eternal covenant’ depends on this being a one-time, bodily, historical event that ends death, not a further turn of a rebirth cycle.
The New Covenant versus the Old
Kannada name: ಹೊಸ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹಳೆಯ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ
Key terms: new_covenant, first_covenant, obsolete, mediator, shadow
Review routing: Human theologian
No structural equivalent exists in Hindu, Haridasa-bhakti, or Lingayat frameworks, none of which organizes its history around a single superseding covenant transaction between a personal God and a covenant people. The Kannada rendering must communicate genuine replacement (ಹಳೆಯದಾಗಿಸು = real supersession, not neutral aging) and an internal, Spirit-written covenant, not a renewed ritual arrangement.
The Once-for-All Atoning Sacrifice
Kannada name: ಒಂದೇ ಸಲ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಂಡ ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ ಬಲಿ
Key terms: once_for_all, sacrifice_offering, to_offer, perfect_to_perfect, bear_sins_of_many
Review routing: Human theologian
ಒಂದೇ ಸಲ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೂ must be rendered identically at every occurrence, since the whole book’s structural argument (not one more offering in an endless cycle, but the terminating, sufficient act) depends on that consistency; a lapse risks readers hearing Christ’s sacrifice as merely an especially excellent instance within an ongoing sacrificial economy, echoing repeated Shakta blood-offering patterns.
Propitiation and Atonement
Kannada name: ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಪ ಪರಿಹಾರ
Key terms: propitiation, mercy_seat, forgiveness, blood
Review routing: Human theologian
ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ is an established, widely used Kannada word for self-performed penance/expiation (through austerity, pilgrimage, or ritual) genuinely embedded in general Hindu religious vocabulary. Every occurrence requires a mandatory translator note: propitiation here is God’s own gracious provision, accomplished BY Christ ON BEHALF OF the people, not a penance the sinner performs to earn removal of guilt.
The Danger of Apostasy and Warning Passages
Kannada name: ಭ್ರಷ್ಟತೆಯ ಅಪಾಯ ಮತ್ತು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯ ವಚನಗಳು
Key terms: fall_away_apostasy, crucify_again, sin_willfully, shrinking_back
Review routing: Human theologian
Never render apostasy vocabulary with any compound of ಧರ್ಮ. These are the most pastorally severe and interpretively debated passages in the book; every occurrence must be flagged for theologian review, and the graphic force of images like ‘re-crucifying’ the Son must not be softened.
High Risk Doctrines
The Superiority of Christ over Moses
Kannada name: ಮೋಶೆಗಿಂತ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ
Key terms: better_superior, apostle, confession_of_faith
Review routing: Human theologian
Moses (ಮೋಶೆ) is universally honored as a faithful servant; the argument depends on Kannada preserving a clear house-builder/house-member distinction (3:3-6) so readers do not read this as merely ‘two great teachers,’ one simply more esteemed, which would flatten a category-difference argument into a rank-difference one.
The Superiority of Christ over the Levitical Priesthood
Kannada name: ಲೇವಿಯ ಯಾಜಕತ್ವದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ
Key terms: levitical_priesthood, priesthood, permanent_priesthood, better_superior
Review routing: Human theologian
The genealogical, hereditary, mortal nature of the Levitical priesthood (7:23, ‘many priests, since death prevented them from continuing’) must contrast sharply with Christ’s permanent priesthood; Kannada ಶಾಶ್ವತ must communicate real, unbroken permanence with no successor, not merely ‘long-lasting,’ or the argument’s force collapses.
The Order of Melchizedek
Kannada name: ಮೆಲ್ಕಿಜೆದೇಕನ ಕ್ರಮದ ಯಾಜಕತ್ವ
Key terms: melchizedek, order_priestly_rank, priesthood
Review routing: Human theologian
Melchizedek’s untraceable origin and superior status risk being mapped onto an unbroken guru-paramparā lineage or a self-realized Sharana figure whose spiritual authority arises from personal attainment; the translator note must clarify Melchizedek prefigures a divinely-appointed, eternal, non-hereditary priesthood fulfilled in Christ, not an admirable self-attained model.
Access to God through Christ’s Blood
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ರಕ್ತದ ಮೂಲಕ ದೇವರ ಸಾನ್ನಿಧ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶ
Key terms: draw_near_to_god, confidence_boldness, veil, blood_of_the_covenant
Review routing: Human theologian
This is a direct, unmediated (by any human priest, caste status, or ritual protocol) access opened once and permanently; ಧೈರ್ಯ/ಸಮೀಪಿಸು must convey genuine boldness of approach, a marked contrast to any tradition — Vedic sacrificial religion, temple protocol, caste-mediated ritual access — in which nearness to the divine presence is graded or restricted.
Type and Fulfillment (Shadow, Copy, and Reality)
Kannada name: ಛಾಯೆ, ಪ್ರತಿರೂಪ ಮತ್ತು ಸತ್ಯಸ್ವರೂಪದ ನೆರವೇರಿಕೆ
Key terms: shadow, copy_pattern, true_form_substance
Review routing: Human theologian
This copy/reality argument must be kept distinct from the Advaita Vedanta picture in which the visible world is māyā, an illusory shadow-projection of an impersonal Absolute; Hebrews’ ‘shadow’ is a real, divinely-given, historically instituted preview of a real, greater, equally personal heavenly fulfillment now accomplished in Christ.
The Promised Rest of God
Kannada name: ದೇವರ ವಾಗ್ದಾನದ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ
Key terms: rest, unbelief, perfect_to_perfect
Review routing: Human theologian
ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ closely echoes moksha’s promise of release from samsaric striving and could be absorbed into the Lingayat Aikya-state’s promise of final settled union; this rest must be taught as relational and by-faith, with the believer remaining a distinct person in ongoing covenant relationship, not dissolution of identity.
Perseverance and Assurance
Kannada name: ಸ್ಥಿರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಭರವಸೆ
Key terms: endurance_perseverance, hope, unchangeable, discipline, anchor
Review routing: Human theologian
ಸಹನೆ and ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆ must convey active, hope-fueled steadfastness grounded in God’s own oath and unchanging character, not passive resignation or fatalistic acceptance of one’s karmic lot; ಶಿಸ್ತು (discipline) must be fatherly formation, never karmic punishment.
Sanctification and the Cleansed Conscience
Kannada name: ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ ಮತ್ತು ಶುದ್ಧಗೊಂಡ ಮನಸ್ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ
Key terms: sanctification, conscience, purification, holy
Review routing: Human theologian
Hebrews 9:13-14 requires two distinct Kannada terms within the same passage — outward, ceremonial cleansing (ಶುದ್ಧೀಕರಣ) versus inward, conscience-level cleansing (ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ/ಪವಿತ್ರಗೊಳಿಸು) — collapsing both into one word destroys the book’s central lesser-to-greater argument; also distinct from the Lingayat shatsthala path’s self-directed ascent toward purity.
Christ’s Covenant Mediation and Ongoing Intercession
Kannada name:
Key terms: mediator, guarantor, intercession
Review routing: Human theologian
ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥ must be marked as singular and exclusive, since Haridasa-bhakti readers may be accustomed to a guru or a chosen personal deity functioning as a devotional go-between, and Lingayat readers to the ಜಂಗಮ office bridging devotee and Shiva; Christ is not one such intermediary among many but the sole, sufficient mediator of the one new covenant.
Final Judgment and Christ’s Second Coming
Kannada name: ಅಂತಿಮ ನ್ಯಾಯವಿಚಾರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಆಗಮನ
Key terms: appointed_reserved, judgment, second_coming, end_of_the_ages
Review routing: Human theologian
ಅಪೋಕೈಟೈ (‘it is appointed’) must never be rendered with ಹಣೆಬರಹ, the forbidden fatalism idiom; and ‘a second time’ (ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಲ) must denote a single, still-future, bodily return, guarding against assimilation to a repeated-avatar-descent pattern, and ‘the end of the ages’ must denote a single linear historical hinge-point, not a cyclical yuga cosmology.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Faith of the Old Testament Saints
Kannada name: ಹಳೆಯ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆಯ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಜನರ ನಂಬಿಕೆ
Key terms: assurance_substance_of_faith, evidence_conviction, strangers_and_exiles, city_promised
Review routing: Native speaker review
The roll call celebrates OT figures’ faith in specific, historical promises of a personal God, not a generalized devotional exemplar list comparable to Sharana poet-saints or Haridasa dasas; proper-name transliterations must follow established Kannada Bible convention consistently across the chapter.
Divine (Fatherly) Discipline
Kannada name: ದೇವರ ತಂದೆಯಂತಹ ಶಿಸ್ತು
Key terms: discipline, father
Review routing: Native speaker review
ಶಿಸ್ತು must be read as purposeful, loving, formative training from a personal, adoptive Father, not karmic retribution for past wrongdoing or an impersonal law of cause-and-effect; avoid any rendering suggesting mere ಶಿಕ್ಷೆ (penalty).
Church and Mutual Exhortation
Kannada name: ಸಭೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ
Key terms: church, exhort, fellowship, assembly_of_the_firstborn
Review routing: Native speaker review
The call not to neglect ‘meeting together’ names a new-covenant community, not a caste-segregated assembly or a ritual institution tied to a building; leadership vocabulary (ನಾಯಕರು) should avoid guru-status overtones.
Pilgrim Identity and the Heavenly City
Kannada name: ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ಗುರುತು ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವರ್ಗೀಯ ನಗರ
Key terms: strangers_and_exiles, city_promised, heavenly_jerusalem_mount_zion
Review routing: Native speaker review
This ‘city’ must be read as a real, promised, future place, not an allegorical inner state of consciousness attained through meditative discipline; render consistently across chapters 11-13 as one sustained theme.
Inheritance through Sonship
Kannada name: ಪುತ್ರತ್ವದ ಮೂಲಕ ಸ್ವಾಸ್ತ್ಯ
Key terms: inheritance, called, calling
Review routing: Native speaker review
ಸ್ವಾಸ್ತ್ಯ must retain the sense of a gift received through covenant sonship rather than merit or labor, consistent with the Romans-baseline guardrail already fixed for ದತ್ತು ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ.
The Living and Active Word of God
Kannada name: ಜೀವಸ್ವರೂಪ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರ್ಯಶಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳ ದೇವರ ವಚನ
Key terms: word_of_god_living, living_god
Review routing: Native speaker review
God’s word must be understood as personal, active self-disclosure that judges the heart, not a generic ‘sacred utterance’ or mantra whose power lies in ritually correct recitation.
Low Risk Doctrines
Sacrifice of Praise and Ethical Worship
Kannada name: ಸ್ತೋತ್ರ ಬಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ನೈತಿಕ ಆರಾಧನೆ
Key terms: sacrifice_of_praise, altar, fellowship
Review routing: Automated review
Standard closing exhortation vocabulary; minor risk that ಬಲಿಪೀಠ could be conflated with an ongoing literal cultic site rather than the metaphorical, already-accomplished reality Hebrews intends.
