Doctrine Analysis
2 John — Full Doctrine Analysis
Kannada Translation Requirements | Doctrine Matrix Across the Entire Book
Curriculum: 2 John (single chapter, verses 1–13)
Core passage (theological anchor, not scope): 2 John 1:4–11
Destination language: Kannada
Baseline authority: Romans Language Package (translation_memory.json, bible_term_registry.json, doctrine_risk_registry.json, 12_ai_translation_requirements.md) — all conventions, risk tiers, script, and register are inherited and extended, never contradicted.
Purpose
This document provides the complete doctrine-by-doctrine risk matrix for 2 John, covering the entire letter from the salutation (v. 1) through the closing greeting (v. 13). Per the PRD Phase 1 full-book coverage mandate, every verse of 2 John is accounted for below — either as the primary support passage for a named doctrine, or explicitly logged as reviewed with no new doctrinal or terminological load. The core passage (1:4–11) is the letter’s theological center and receives the most granular treatment, but it is never treated as the boundary of analysis.
This matrix is fully consistent with analysis/assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (v1): the same 15 doctrines, the same risk tiers, and the same review routing are used here. No doctrine, tier, or routing decision in this file differs from that registry. This document adds the structural, sequential, whole-book view (organized by the letter’s own verse order) that the registry’s flat doctrine list does not provide.
1. Structural Overview of 2 John
2 John is a single 13-verse pastoral letter with a tight, sequential argument. Because it has only one chapter, “full-book coverage” in this analysis is organized by verse-block section rather than by chapter number:
| Section | Verses | Content |
|---|---|---|
| A. Salutation and Authorship | 1:1–3 | Elder, elect lady, children, truth, grace/mercy/peace, Father and Son |
| B. Joy and the Walk of Truth | 1:4 | Rejoicing that “children” walk in truth per the Father’s commandment |
| C. The Commandment of Love | 1:5–6 | Love defined as obedience; not a new commandment but from the beginning |
| D. Warning: Deceivers and the Incarnation | 1:7 | Many deceivers who deny Jesus Christ coming in the flesh; the antichrist |
| E. Warning: Watch Yourselves, Forfeited Reward | 1:8 | Watchfulness so as not to lose what was worked for; full reward |
| F. Doctrine of Christ: Abide, Do Not Go Beyond | 1:9 | Going beyond the teaching of Christ forfeits God; abiding secures both Father and Son |
| G. Hospitality and Discernment | 1:10–11 | Do not receive or greet one who does not bring this teaching; complicity in evil works |
| H. Closing: Fellowship and Joy | 1:12–13 | Desire for face-to-face fellowship, joy made full, greetings from “children” of the elect sister |
Every section below is mapped to one or more registry doctrines. No verse in 2 John is left unaddressed.
2. Full Doctrine Matrix
Section A — Salutation and Authorship (1:1–3)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (2 John) | Risk Level | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pastoral Eldership | 1:1 | Medium | ಹಿರಿಯ (elder) must be kept distinct from ಸ್ವಾಮಿ or ಗುರು (self-attained teaching-authority, cf. baseline Apostleship entry). The Elder writes in submission to “the teaching of Christ,” not as an independent guru figure recognized for personal spiritual attainment. | Native speaker review |
| Divine Election of the Church | 1:1, 1:13 | High | ಆಯ್ಕೆಗೊಂಡ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ (“elect lady”) reuses the baseline ಆಯ್ಕೆ root and must convey God’s sovereign, personal choice — never ಹಣೆಬರಹ (fatalism) or ವಿಧಿ (impersonal destiny). The referential ambiguity between an individual matron and a personified congregation must be preserved, not resolved, in the Kannada text. | Human theologian |
| Walking in Truth and Love | 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 | High | ಸತ್ಯ (“truth,” introduced here before its central use in v. 4) risks collapse into Advaita Vedanta’s impersonal Sat/Satya, realized through meditative self-effort, rather than revealed, relational, propositional truth “abiding in us forever” and given by the Father. | Human theologian |
| Sonship and Deity of Christ | 1:3 | Critical | ತಂದೆಯ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೇಸು ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ (“Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father”) must convey eternal, unique, co-equal Sonship — not an honorific bestowed on an especially devoted human teacher (nearest Lingayat category: a Sharana who attained Aikya), nor one devotional lord among several chosen personal deities in Haridasa bhakti practice. This is precisely the relationship the letter’s deceivers will deny in v. 7. | Human theologian |
| Grace, Mercy, and Peace | 1:3 | High | The unique threefold salutation (grace + mercy + peace, unlike Paul’s usual twofold form) risks ಕರುಣೆ (mercy) being read as impersonal, universally-diffused karuṇā rather than God’s personal compassion toward specific believers named as coming “from God the Father and from Jesus Christ.” | Human theologian |
Section B — Joy and the Walk of Truth (1:4)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (2 John) | Risk Level | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Walking in Truth and Love | 1:4 | High | ನಡೆಯುವುದು (“walk,” of conduct) risks assimilation to mārga as a self-chosen spiritual path (bhakti-mārga, jnana-mārga, or the Lingayat shatsthala ascent) rather than obedient conduct within a relationship and commandment already given “from the Father.” Truth here is something children are found walking in, not a goal being progressively attained. | Human theologian |
Section C — The Commandment of Love (1:5–6)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (2 John) | Risk Level | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Love as Commanded Obedience | 1:5, 1:6 | High | ಪ್ರೀತಿ risks collapse into ಭಕ್ತಿ, the devotee-initiated, often merit-conditioned devotional surrender directed at Krishna (Haridasa) or Shiva via the ishtalinga (Lingayat). 2 John explicitly defines love as obedience to an already-given commandment (“this is love, that we walk according to his commandments”), not an emotive or mystical devotional practice generating its own spiritual credit. “Not a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning” (ಆರಂಭದಿಂದ) must read as a fixed historical starting point, not cyclical cosmic time. | Human theologian |
Section D — Deceivers and the Denial of the Incarnation (1:7)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (2 John) | Risk Level | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Denial of the Incarnation | 1:7 | Critical | The letter’s Christological center. ಶರೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದ (“coming in the flesh”) must never be rendered with ಅವತಾರ, which for Haridasa Krishna-bhakti readers (coastal Karnataka, Udupi) implies a repeatable, non-permanent, non-unique divine visitation — the very error this verse condemns. A distinct risk applies to Lingayat-background readers, who reject avatar theology yet may still receive Christ merely as an exceptionally realized human Sharana-type teacher rather than the eternal Son who took on real, permanent flesh. Always pair with ದೇಹಧಾರಣೆ. | Human theologian |
| Antichrist and the Spirit of Denial | 1:7 | Critical | ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ ವಿರೋಧಿ must retain full force as direct theological opposition to Christ’s unique incarnation and lordship — never softened to “a rival teacher” or “a religious opponent.” ವಂಚಕ (deceiver) must be scoped narrowly to this doctrinal denial and never generalized to sincere adherents of Karnataka’s own devotional or reform traditions, who are not in view here. | Human theologian |
| Confession of Christ’s Incarnation | 1:7 | High | ಅರಿಕೆಮಾಡುವುದು (“confess”) must convey a specific, verbal, public doctrinal affirmation, not private conviction or generic piety — directly paralleling the Romans 10:9 confession pattern (ಯೇಸು ಕರ್ತನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ). Cross-document consistency with the Romans package is required. | Human theologian |
| The World as Sphere of Deception | 1:7 | Medium | ಲೋಕ is the standard rendering, but readers may associate it with the tiered loka cosmology (bhūloka, svarga-loka, etc.) rather than 2 John’s single, unified, morally-charged sphere of human society into which the deceivers “have gone out.” | Native speaker review |
Section E — Watch Yourselves; Forfeited Reward (1:8)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (2 John) | Risk Level | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Forfeiture of Reward | 1:8 | High | ಪ್ರತಿಫಲ risks conflation with the near-identical compound ಕರ್ಮಫಲ (“fruit of one’s actions”), already rejected in the baseline for “grace” as implying impersonal, self-generated karmic merit. The reward in view is the fruit of persevering within a relationship of grace already given, not merit independently accumulated through effort or sacred labor. | Human theologian |
Section F — Doctrine of Christ: Abide, Do Not Go Beyond (1:9)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (2 John) | Risk Level | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ | 1:9 | High | The single highest-risk verse in the letter for a Kannada audience. ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು (“going ahead/beyond”) closely parallels the culturally prestigious pattern of the Lingayat/Veerashaiva shatsthala path’s progressive stages of spiritual ascent and the Vedantic jnana-mārga’s advancement through levels of realization. 2 John inverts this entirely: going beyond the received apostolic teaching about Christ is condemned as losing God, not commended as spiritual maturity. ನೆಲೆಗೊಂಡಿರುವುದು (“abide”) must convey settled, secure, permanent relational possession of “both the Father and the Son,” never a preliminary stage meant to be spiritually outgrown. Mandatory translator note required distinguishing this inverted valence from progressive-attainment spiritualities. | Human theologian |
| Sonship and Deity of Christ | 1:9 | Critical | ”Has both the Father and the Son” restates the Sonship claim from v. 3 as the direct stake of doctrinal perseverance — losing the teaching of Christ means losing God himself, not merely losing one teacher among several. | Human theologian |
Section G — Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment (1:10–11)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (2 John) | Risk Level | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment | 1:10, 1:11 | High | Withholding hospitality (ಮನೆ) and a customary greeting (ವಂದನೆ) cuts directly against Karnataka’s deeply held hospitality ethic (“ಅತಿಥಿ ದೇವೋ ಭವ” — the guest is God) and the strong social weight of withholding ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ. A mandatory translator note must scope this narrowly to a teacher actively denying Christ’s incarnation (v. 7’s specific ವಂಚಕ), and must never be read as license for general inhospitality toward non-Christian neighbors or Haridasa/Lingayat-background guests. | Human theologian |
| Moral Complicity in False Teaching | 1:11 | Medium | ಪಾಲುಗಾರನಾಗುವುದು (“share/partake in evil works”) must be kept strictly distinct from the baseline’s positive ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ (“fellowship”); using the same root for both would blur the sharp moral contrast the verse draws between godly participation in Christ and sinful complicity in another’s evil works through even a small act of social legitimation. | Native speaker review |
Section H — Closing: Fellowship and Joy (1:12–13)
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (2 John) | Risk Level | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Christian Fellowship and Joy | 1:12, 1:13 | Low | Standard vocabulary (ಸಂತೋಷ, ಮುಖಾಮುಖಿಯಾಗಿ, ವಂದನೆ ತಿಳಿಸು) with low ambiguity risk. Reinforces, by contrast, that v. 10’s withholding of greeting is a narrow doctrinal exception rather than the community’s general relational posture, which remains warm, communicative, and eager for face-to-face fellowship. “Children of your elect sister” echoes the productive ambiguity of ಆಯ್ಕೆಗೊಂಡ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ from v. 1 and should be preserved rather than resolved. | Automated review |
3. Full-Chapter Coverage Confirmation
Because 2 John consists of a single chapter, the “chapter-first-to-last” mandate is satisfied at the verse level. Every verse is logged below, confirming no silent omissions:

| 1:11 | Yes | Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment; Moral Complicity in False Teaching | Included above (Section G) |
| 1:12 | Yes | Christian Fellowship and Joy | Included above (Section H) — reviewed; no new Critical/High term, logged explicitly rather than omitted |
| 1:13 | Yes | Christian Fellowship and Joy; Divine Election of the Church (echo) | Included above (Section H) — reviewed; closing greeting, low doctrinal load, logged explicitly |
Coverage statement: All 13 verses of 2 John have been reviewed. The core passage (1:4–11) carries the highest concentration of Critical- and High-risk doctrine (7 of the letter’s 8 High-risk and all 3 Critical-risk doctrines occur within or adjacent to it) and receives correspondingly dense treatment above, but the salutation (1:1–3) and closing (1:12–13) are full participants in this analysis, not appendices to it.
4. Risk Summary (must match doctrine_risk_registry.json v1 exactly)
| Risk Tier | Doctrine Count | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 3 (Denial of the Incarnation; Antichrist and the Spirit of Denial; Sonship and Deity of Christ) | Human theologian — mandatory, every occurrence |
| High | 8 (Walking in Truth and Love; Love as Commanded Obedience; Confession of Christ’s Incarnation; Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ; Forfeiture of Reward; Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment; Grace, Mercy, and Peace; Divine Election of the Church) | Human theologian |
| Medium | 3 (Moral Complicity in False Teaching; Pastoral Eldership; World as Sphere of Deception) | Native speaker review |
| Low | 1 (Christian Fellowship and Joy) | Automated review |
| Total doctrines | 15 | 11 theologian / 3 native speaker / 1 automated |
This matches doctrine_risk_registry.json’s risk_summary block exactly: Critical: 3, High: 8, Medium: 3, Low: 1, total_requiring_theologian_review: 11, total_requiring_native_speaker_review: 3, total_automated_only: 1.
5. Verses Requiring Mandatory Human Theologian Review at Every Occurrence
Per the baseline’s Escalation Rules for Human Review (extended here for 2 John):
- 2 John 1:3 — Sonship and Deity of Christ; Grace, Mercy, and Peace
- 2 John 1:7 — Denial of the Incarnation; Antichrist and the Spirit of Denial; Confession of Christ’s Incarnation (highest-density verse; every Critical-risk doctrine intersects here)
- 2 John 1:9 — Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ; Sonship and Deity of Christ (mandatory translator note required on the inverted valence of ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು relative to progressive-attainment spiritualities)
- 2 John 1:10–11 — Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment (mandatory translator note scoping the exception narrowly to incarnation-denying teachers)
These verses may never be marked “approved” in Phase 2 without theologian sign-off, consistent with the baseline’s routing for Incarnation, Deity of Christ, Sonship of Christ, and Lordship-adjacent confession passages in Romans.
6. Consistency Notes with the Baseline Romans Package
(Son of God) are all reused exactly per
08_core_glossary.mdSection A; no divergence is introduced here. - The FORBIDDEN substitution list from
12_ai_translation_requirements.md(never ಅವತಾರ, ಮೋಕ್ಷ/ಮುಕ್ತಿ/ಐಕ್ಯ, ಧರ್ಮ for law/righteousness, ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮ, ಶಕ್ತಿ for God’s power, ಶರಣರು for saints) applies without exception throughout 2 John, most acutely at 1:7 and 1:9. - New doctrines introduced by 2 John (Denial of the Incarnation, Antichrist and the Spirit of Denial, Confession of Christ’s Incarnation, Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ, Forfeiture of Reward, Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment, Moral Complicity in False Teaching, Divine Election of the Church as applied to 2 John, Grace/Mercy/Peace as a threefold salutation) extend but do not contradict the baseline doctrine set; all inherit its Critical/High/Medium/Low tier definitions verbatim.
This document extends analysis/assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (v1) with full sequential, whole-book verse coverage and must be read alongside analysis/08_core_glossary.md for term-level detail. No doctrine, tier, or routing decision here may be altered without a corresponding version increment to the registry.
Critical Risk Doctrines
Denial of the Incarnation
Kannada name: ದೇಹಧಾರಣೆಯ ನಿರಾಕರಣೆ
Key terms: coming_in_the_flesh, incarnation, confess, jesus, christ
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: this verse is 2 John’s Christological center. ಶರೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದ must never be rendered with ಅವತಾರ, which for readers formed by coastal Karnataka’s Haridasa Krishna-bhakti tradition (Udupi) would import a repeatable, non-permanent, non-unique divine visitation — precisely the false teaching this verse condemns. Lingayat-background readers who themselves reject avatar theology face a distinct risk of instead receiving Christ as an exceptionally realized human Sharana-type teacher rather than the eternal Son who took on real, permanent flesh.
Antichrist and the Spirit of Denial
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ ವಿರೋಧಿಯ ಆತ್ಮ
Key terms: antichrist, deceiver, world
Review routing: Human theologian
ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ ವಿರೋಧಿ must retain full force as direct theological opposition to Christ’s unique incarnation and lordship, never softened to a generic ‘rival teacher’ or ‘religious opponent.’ ವಂಚಕ (deceiver) must be scoped specifically to this doctrinal denial and not generalized to sincere adherents of Karnataka’s own devotional or reform traditions (Haridasa, Lingayat), who are not in view in this verse.
Sonship and Deity of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ದೇವತ್ವ
Key terms: son_of_god, father, jesus, christ
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL, reusing the baseline’s Sonship of Christ conventions: ತಂದೆಯ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೇಸು ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತ must convey eternal, unique, co-equal Sonship, not a title of honor bestowed on an especially devoted or enlightened human teacher (the closest available Lingayat category, a Sharana who reached Aikya) and not one devotional lord among several chosen personal deities in a Haridasa devotee’s practice. This Sonship is precisely what the letter’s deceivers deny by rejecting the incarnation.
High Risk Doctrines
Walking in Truth and Love
Kannada name: ಸತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವುದು
Key terms: truth, walk, commandment, father
Review routing: Human theologian
ಸತ್ಯ (truth) risks collapse into Advaita Vedanta’s Sat/Satya, an impersonal metaphysical Absolute realized through meditative insight or self-effort, rather than the revealed, relational, propositional content anchored in Christ that 2 John describes as received ‘from the Father’ and abiding permanently in believers. ನಡೆಯುವುದು (walk/conduct) risks assimilation to mārga as a self-chosen spiritual path (bhakti-mārga, jnana-mārga) rather than obedient conduct within a relationship already given.
Love as Commanded Obedience
Kannada name: ಆಜ್ಞೆಗೆ ವಿಧೇಯವಾದ ಪ್ರೀತಿ
Key terms: love, commandment, from_the_beginning
Review routing: Human theologian
ಪ್ರೀತಿ risks collapse into ಭಕ್ತಿ, the devotional-surrender love a Haridasa devotee directs toward Krishna or a Lingayat devotee toward Shiva through the ishtalinga — devotee-initiated and often merit-conditioned. 2 John defines love explicitly as obedience to an already-received commandment (‘this is love, that we walk according to his commandments’), not a mystical or emotional devotional practice generating its own spiritual credit.
Confession of Christ’s Incarnation
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ದೇಹಧಾರಣೆಯ ಅರಿಕೆ
Key terms: confess, jesus, christ, coming_in_the_flesh
Review routing: Human theologian
ಅರಿಕೆಮಾಡುವುದು must convey a specific, verbal, public doctrinal affirmation rather than private conviction or general piety, directly paralleling the confession pattern already fixed for Romans 10:9 (ಯೇಸು ಕರ್ತನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ). Consistency across both curricula is required per the baseline’s cross-document Theological Consistency Rules.
Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಬೋಧನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಗೊಂಡಿರುವುದು
Key terms: teaching, abide, go_ahead, god, father
Review routing: Human theologian
The single highest-risk verse in the book for a Kannada audience. ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು (‘going ahead/beyond’) closely parallels the Lingayat/Veerashaiva shatsthala path’s progressive stages of spiritual ascent and Vedantic jnana-mārga’s advancement through levels of realization — both culturally prestigious patterns of ‘going further.’ 2 John inverts this entirely: going beyond the received apostolic teaching about Christ is condemned as losing God, not commended as spiritual maturity. ನೆಲೆಗೊಂಡಿರುವುದು (‘abide’) must convey settled, secure, permanent relational possession, not a preliminary stage meant to be outgrown.
Forfeiture of Reward
Kannada name: ಪ್ರತಿಫಲದ ನಷ್ಟ
Key terms: reward
Review routing: Human theologian
ಪ್ರತಿಫಲ risks conflation with the near-identical compound ಕರ್ಮಫಲ (‘fruit of one’s actions’), already rejected in the baseline for ‘grace’ because it implies an impersonal, self-generated merit economy. This reward is the fruit of persevering within a relationship of grace already given, not merit independently accumulated through effort.
Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
Kannada name: ಆತಿಥ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಬೋಧನಾ ವಿವೇಚನೆ
Key terms: house, greeting, teaching, deceiver
Review routing: Human theologian
Withholding hospitality (ಮನೆ) and greeting (ವಂದನೆ) cuts directly against Karnataka’s deeply held hospitality ethic (‘ಅತಿಥಿ ದೇವೋ ಭವ,’ the guest is God) and the strong social weight of withholding a customary greeting (comparable to withholding ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ). Translator notes must scope this narrowly to a teacher actively denying Christ’s incarnation, not license general inhospitality toward non-Christian neighbors or Haridasa/Lingayat-background guests.
Grace, Mercy, and Peace
Kannada name: ಕೃಪೆ, ಕರುಣೆ, ಶಾಂತಿ
Key terms: grace, mercy, peace, father, jesus
Review routing: Human theologian
This unique threefold salutation (grace, mercy, peace — unlike Paul’s usual twofold grace-and-peace) risks having ಕರುಣೆ (mercy) read as the impersonal, universally-diffused cosmic compassion of karuṇā in Buddhist and broader Hindu ethical usage, rather than God’s personal compassion toward specific believers in a specific danger. All three gifts must be taught as named, personal, distinct gifts ‘from God the Father and from Jesus Christ,’ not generic blessings.
Divine Election of the Church
Kannada name: ಸಭೆಯ ದೇವರ ಆಯ್ಕೆ
Key terms: elect_lady, election, sister
Review routing: Human theologian
ಆಯ್ಕೆಗೊಂಡ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ reuses the baseline’s ಆಯ್ಕೆ root and must retain God’s sovereign, personal choice, not ಹಣೆಬರಹ (fatalism) or ವಿಧಿ (impersonal destiny). The referential ambiguity between an individual matron and a personified congregation should be preserved in translation rather than resolved.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Moral Complicity in False Teaching
Kannada name: ಸುಳ್ಳು ಬೋಧನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲುಗಾರಿಕೆ
Key terms: partake_in_evil, evil_works, greeting
Review routing: Native speaker review
ಪಾಲುಗಾರನಾಗುವುದು must be kept distinct from the baseline’s positive ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ (‘fellowship’); using the same root for both would blur the sharp moral contrast the verse draws between godly participation in Christ and sinful complicity in another’s evil works through a small act of social legitimation.
Pastoral Eldership
Kannada name: ಸಭಾ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಸೇವೆ
Key terms: elder
Review routing: Native speaker review
ಹಿರಿಯ must be kept distinct from ಸ್ವಾಮಿ or ಗುರು, terms already flagged in the baseline’s Apostleship entry as importing a self-attained teaching status; the Elder’s authority here is a recognized pastoral office exercised in submission to ‘the teaching of Christ,’ not an independently authoritative guru role.
The World as Sphere of Deception
Kannada name: ವಂಚನೆಯ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವಾದ ಲೋಕ
Key terms: world, deceiver, antichrist
Review routing: Native speaker review
ಲೋಕ is standard, but Kannada readers from Hindu backgrounds may associate it with the tiered loka cosmology (bhūloka, svarga-loka, etc.) rather than 2 John’s single, unified, morally-charged sphere of human society into which the deceivers ‘have gone out.‘
Low Risk Doctrines
Christian Fellowship and Joy
Kannada name: ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂತೋಷ
Key terms: fellowship, joy, face_to_face, send_greetings, children, sister
Review routing: Automated review
Standard vocabulary (ಸಂತೋಷ, ಮುಖಾಮುಖಿಯಾಗಿ, ವಂದನೆ ತಿಳಿಸು) with low ambiguity risk; reinforces that the letter’s earlier withholding of greeting (v. 10) is a narrow doctrinal exception rather than the community’s general relational posture, which remains warm and communicative.
