Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis — Revelation (Kannada)
0. Method and Scope
Per the FULL-BOOK COVERAGE mandate, this analysis walks through every chapter of Revelation, 1 through 22, identifying which doctrines from the curriculum’s doctrine set are active in that chapter, which glossary terms carry the doctrinal weight, and what specific syncretism/translation risk applies. Chapters that primarily restate a doctrine already fully documented elsewhere are noted as “reviewed — no new doctrinal content” rather than omitted. The 24 doctrines below are identical in name, wording, and risk tier to assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json; nothing here contradicts that registry. Section 2 provides the consolidated matrix required by Step 4.
1. Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrinal Walkthrough
Revelation 1 — Prologue, Vision of the Risen Christ
- Inspiration and Reliability of Prophecy (1:1-3) — the book announces itself as ἀποκάλυψις, a disclosed prophecy to be read aloud and kept; ಪ್ರವಾದನೆ/ಪ್ರಕಟನೆ framing must be set from verse 1.
- Epistolary Greetings and Closing Benedictions (1:4-5) — opens exactly as Paul’s letters; baseline ಕೃಪೆ/ಶಾಂತಿ/ಯೇಸು renderings apply.
- Priesthood and Royal Identity of Believers (1:6) — “made us a kingdom, priests to his God.”
- Deity of Christ (extended in Revelation) (1:8, 17-18) — Christ’s self-declaration “Alpha and Omega,” “the first and the last,” “I died and behold I am alive forevermore,” directly identifying him with God’s own self-title.
- The Sovereignty of God over History / The Almighty and the Nature of Divine Power (1:8) — first of nine παντοκράτωρ occurrences; forbidden-substitution rule against ಶಕ್ತಿ-rooted renderings applies from this first instance.
- Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution (1:9) — John’s own “tribulation… testimony of Jesus,” establishing the pattern for chs. 2-3, 6, 12.
- The Return and Reign of Christ (1:7) — “every eye will see him,” anchors the book’s climactic theme from its opening lines.
Revelation 2 — Letters to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira
- Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution (2:10 “be faithful unto death”; 2:7,11,17,26 “the one who overcomes”) — the ὁ νικῶν refrain begins here; every occurrence must anchor to grace-based victory (cf. 12:11), not self-attained spiritual ascent.
- Sin and Idolatry (the excluded and their end) (2:14, 2:20) — Balaam’s teaching and “Jezebel” associated with food sacrificed to idols and sexual immorality; establishes the vice-list pattern completed in 21:8/22:15.
- Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (2:17 hidden manna, white stone) — Low-risk symbolic reward imagery requiring light interpretive framing.
- Book of Life and the Ground of Final Judgment — not yet named in ch.2 but the “tree of life” (2:7) and “crown of life” (2:10) begin the life/reward vocabulary completed at 3:5, 20:12, 21:27.
Revelation 3 — Letters to Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea
- Book of Life and the Ground of Final Judgment (3:5) — first explicit mention of τὸ βιβλίον τῆς ζωῆς; the Chitragupta-ledger collision risk must be flagged here at its first occurrence, not only at ch. 20-21.
- Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution (3:10-12, 3:21 “the one who overcomes… to sit with me on my throne”).
- Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (3:18 gold refined by fire; 3:16 lukewarm) — Low-risk standard metaphors.
- The Sovereignty of God over History (3:7 “key of David”) reuses baseline ದಾವೀದ; establishes Christ’s authority over redemptive history.
Revelation 4 — The Throne Room
- The Sovereignty of God over History (4:1-11) — the enthroned vision governs the whole book’s remaining action.
- The Almighty and the Nature of Divine Power (4:8) — second παντοκράτωρ occurrence, in the living creatures’ unceasing worship.
- Worship of the Lamb (anticipatory; full doctrine begins ch. 5) — the twenty-four elders’ worship pattern (4:10-11) establishes the liturgical template the Lamb will share in ch. 5.
- Liturgical Worship Forms and Doxology (4:9-11) — Low-risk established worship vocabulary.
Revelation 5 — The Lamb Who Was Slain
- Worship of the Lamb (5:1-14) — doctrinal center: the Lamb receives the same worship as the One on the throne; ಕುರಿಮರಿ must not read as an ongoing sacrificial-animal ritual (bali).
- Deity of Christ (extended in Revelation) (5:6-14) — the Lamb is worshiped alongside God by every creature; foundational evidence text.
- Priesthood and Royal Identity of Believers (5:10) — “made them a kingdom and priests.”
- Prayer and Intercession (extended) (5:8) — golden bowls of incense, “the prayers of the saints”; ಧೂಪ collision with puja practice flagged.
- Liturgical Worship Forms and Doxology (5:9-14) — “new song,” Low-risk worship vocabulary carrying High-risk doctrinal freight from the surrounding Lamb-worship context.
Revelation 6 — The Seals Opened
- The Sovereignty of God over History (6:1-8) — the four horsemen; God’s controlled unveiling of history, not an impersonal cosmic mechanism.
- Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (6:9-11) — martyrs’ cry “how long,” the first vindication-of-saints text.
- Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (6:1-8) — four horsemen require interpretive, non-speculative framing.
Revelation 7 — The Sealed and the Great Multitude
- The Sovereignty of God over History (7:1-8) — sealing of the 144,000; God’s ownership/protection, not a human ritual forehead-mark.
- Unity of Jews and Gentiles (consummated in the New Jerusalem) (7:9) — “great multitude… from every nation, tribe, people, language” — universality must not be narrowed.
- Salvation (extended: deliverance vs. the second death) (7:9-10) — “salvation belongs to our God” declared by this innumerable, still-distinct multitude.
Revelation 8 — Seventh Seal, Trumpets Begin
- The Sovereignty of God over History (8:1-13) — trumpet judgments continue the seal-sequence’s controlled unveiling.
- Prayer and Intercession (extended) (8:3-4) — incense mingled with “the prayers of all the saints” rising before God.
Revelation 9 — The Fifth and Sixth Trumpets
- Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (9:1-11) — locusts, Abaddon/Apollyon; transliterated proper names glossed “Destroyer,” not treated as independent deities.
- Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan (9:1-2, 11) — the ἄβυσσος (abyss) first appears; ಪಾತಾಳ forbidden due to Nāga-loka collision.
- Sin and Idolatry (the excluded and their end) (9:20-21) — survivors “did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons and idols”; direct doctrinal statement on idolatry’s futility.
Revelation 10 — The Little Scroll
- Inspiration and Reliability of Prophecy (10:7 “the mystery of God” to be fulfilled as he announced to his servants the prophets) — μυστήριον here is revealed truth, not esoteric/tantric hidden knowledge.
Revelation 11 — The Two Witnesses, Seventh Trumpet
- Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution (11:3-12) — the two witnesses, killed and raised; witness sustained through martyrdom.
- The Return and Reign of Christ (11:15-18) — “the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ” — total, accomplished, permanent transfer of sovereignty.
- The Sovereignty of God over History (11:15-18) — climactic seventh-trumpet doxology.
- Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (11:1-2) — temple-measuring imagery.
Revelation 12 — The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon
- Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan (12:7-9) — Michael defeats the dragon; the dragon explicitly identified as “that ancient serpent… called the devil and Satan” — must not be softened despite nāga-veneration resonance.
- Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil (12:10-11) — “the accuser… has been thrown down,” “they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb.”
- Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution (12:11, 12:17) — the grace-basis anchor verse for every “overcomer” occurrence in chs. 2-3, 21.
- Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (12:1) — “woman clothed with the sun” requires explicit framing against goddess-iconography resonance.
Revelation 13 — The Two Beasts
- Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (13:1-18) — the sea-beast and land-beast, and “666” (13:18); discourage numerological code-breaking.
- Sin and Idolatry (the excluded and their end) (13:4,8,14-15) — worship of the dragon and the beast, “mark of the beast” (13:16-17) as parody of God’s seal (ch. 7).
- Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (13:8) — “everyone whose name has not been written… in the Lamb’s book of life” — negative-mention foreshadowing of ch. 20’s judgment scene.
Revelation 14 — The Lamb on Zion, Three Angels, Harvest
- Worship of the Lamb (14:1-5) — the 144,000 with the Lamb on Mount Zion, singing before the throne.
- Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (14:9-11) — the wrath of God/the Lamb poured on beast-worshipers “in the presence of the holy angels and… the Lamb,” and the smoke of torment “forever and ever” — must be taught as final, not a temporary purgation.
- Inspiration and Reliability of Prophecy (14:6) — “an eternal gospel to proclaim,” reusing baseline ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ.
- Sin and Idolatry (the excluded and their end) (14:9-11) — worship of the beast/image and its mark.
Revelation 15 — Song of Moses and of the Lamb, Bowls Introduced
- The Sovereignty of God over History (15:1-8) — the seven bowl-plagues introduced as the completion of God’s wrath.
- The Almighty and the Nature of Divine Power (15:3) — “Great and amazing are your deeds, Lord God the Almighty” — third major worship-scene παντοκράτωρ occurrence.
- Liturgical Worship Forms and Doxology (15:3-4) — the Song of Moses and of the Lamb.
Revelation 16 — The Seven Bowls
- The Sovereignty of God over History (16:1-21) — bowls poured out; God’s controlled judgment, not impersonal cosmic mechanism.
- The Almighty and the Nature of Divine Power (16:14) — “the great day of God the Almighty.”
- Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (16:16,19) — Armageddon gathered for judgment; Babylon remembered “to make her drain the cup.”
Revelation 17 — The Great Prostitute and the Beast Explained
- Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (17:1-6, 15-18) — “Babylon the great,” the corrupt idolatrous power-system under judgment.
- Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (17:1-18) — the passage’s own self-interpretation (17:7-15) is the interpretive anchor against speculative allegorizing elsewhere in the book.
- The Return and Reign of Christ (17:14) — “King of kings and Lord of lords,” reusing baseline ಕರ್ತ; exclusive, singular, supreme sovereignty, not merely the greatest among comparable rulers.
Revelation 18 — The Fall of Babylon
- Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (18:1-24) — Babylon’s fall lamented by kings and merchants, celebrated in heaven.
- Sin and Idolatry (the excluded and their end) (18:4) — “Come out of her, my people” — ethical call to separation from complicity in corrupt idolatrous systems.
Revelation 19 — Hallelujah, Marriage Supper of the Lamb, Rider on the White Horse
- Worship of the Lamb (19:1-10) — fourfold “Hallelujah,” culminating heavenly worship scene.
- The Church as Bride of Christ (19:6-9) — “the marriage supper of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready.”
- Grace (extended: freely given water/inheritance vs. merit) (19:8) — the Bride’s fine linen “was granted her,” ಪವಿತ್ರ ಜನರ ನೀತಿಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು are fruit, not ground, of righteousness.
- The Return and Reign of Christ / Deity of Christ (extended) (19:11-16) — the rider on the white horse, “King of Kings and Lord of Lords,” Word of God.
- The Almighty and the Nature of Divine Power (19:6, 15) — “the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.”
- Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (19:20) — beast and false prophet cast into the lake of fire, first explicit mention.
Revelation 20 — The Thousand Years, Final Judgment
- The Thousand-Year Reign and Linear (Non-Cyclical) History (20:1-7) — six-fold repeated “thousand years”; must resist assimilation into yuga-cycle cosmology.
- Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan (20:1-3, 10) — Satan bound, then finally thrown into the lake of fire “forever and ever.”
- Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints / Book of Life and the Ground of Final Judgment (20:11-15) — the great white throne, “books” (of deeds) and “the book of life” opened; the sharpest Chitragupta-ledger collision point in the whole book.
- Salvation (extended: deliverance vs. the second death) (20:6, 14) — “the second death has no power,” “this is the second death, the lake of fire.”
Revelation 21 — CORE PASSAGE: The New Heaven and New Earth (21:1-8), New Jerusalem
- The New Heaven and New Earth (21:1-8; 21:22-27) — theological anchor of the entire curriculum; a single, final, non-repeating renewal, not a pralaya/sṛṣṭi cycle.
- The Church as Bride of Christ (21:2, 9-10) — “the holy city… prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”
- Salvation (extended: deliverance vs. the second death) (21:7-8) — the overcomer’s inheritance contrasted directly with “the second death” in the same breath (vv.7-8), the doctrine’s clearest single-passage juxtaposition.
- Adoption and Sonship (extended: permanent, undissolved relationship) (21:3, 7) — “I will be his God and he will be my son.”
- Unity of Jews and Gentiles (consummated in the New Jerusalem) (21:12-14, 24-26) — twelve tribes’ gates, twelve apostles’ foundations, “the glory and honor of the nations.”
- Sin and Idolatry (the excluded and their end) (21:8, 27) — the vice list culminates the pattern begun in chs. 2, 9, 13, 18.
- Book of Life and the Ground of Final Judgment (21:27) — only those written in the Lamb’s book of life may enter.
- Grace (extended: freely given water/inheritance vs. merit) (21:6) — “to the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment,” ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ.
Revelation 22 — River and Tree of Life, Epilogue
- The New Heaven and New Earth (22:1-5) — river of the water of life, tree of life, no more curse; completion of ch. 21’s vision.
- The Return and Reign of Christ (22:5) — “they will reign forever and ever” — distinct persons in ongoing relationship with God, not Aikya-style merger.
- Worship of the Lamb / Deity of Christ (extended) (22:1, 3, 13) — the singular, shared “throne of God and of the Lamb”; Christ’s “Alpha and Omega” self-title repeated.
- Adoption and Sonship (extended) (22:5, implicitly with 21:7) — permanence of relationship into eternity.
- Inspiration and Reliability of Prophecy (22:6-7, 18-19) — “these words are trustworthy and true,” with the book’s severe warning against addition or subtraction.
- Grace (extended: freely given water/inheritance vs. merit) (22:17) — “let the one who desires take the water of life without price.”
- Sin and Idolatry (the excluded and their end) (22:15) — final restatement of the vice list, “outside” the city.
- Epistolary Greetings and Closing Benedictions (22:21) — “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all,” closing exactly as Paul’s letters close.
2. Consolidated Doctrine Matrix (Full Book)
This table lists all 24 doctrines, matching assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json exactly in name and risk tier, with supporting passages spanning the full book and a specific, grounded translation risk statement.
| # | Doctrine (English) | ಕನ್ನಡ Doctrine Name | Risk | Supporting Passages (Revelation) | Translation Risk (grounded reason) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Return and Reign of Christ | ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುನರಾಗಮನ ಮತ್ತು ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆ | Critical | 1:7-8; 11:15-18; 17:14; 19:11-16; 20:4-6; 22:5 | ”King of kings and Lord of lords” must convey exclusive, singular, supreme, permanent sovereignty — not one great ruler among Karnataka’s historically remembered regional kings and enthroned deities. “Thousand years” (20:2-7) risks assimilation into cyclical yuga cosmology rather than a bounded, linear-historical reign. | Human theologian |
| 2 | The Sovereignty of God over History | ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಮೇಲೆ ದೇವರ ಸಾರ್ವಭೌಮತ್ವ | High | 1:8; 4:1-11; 5:1-14; 6:1-8:1; 11:15-18; 15:1-16:21; 21:1 | παντοκράτωρ recurs nine times in worship scenes; never render with the ಶಕ್ತಿ root (Chamundeshwari/Shakta collision). The seal-trumpet-bowl sequence must be God’s own controlled unveiling, not an impersonal self-operating mechanism like karma. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution | ಹಿಂಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದೃಢತೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಂಬಿಗಸ್ತ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ | High | 1:9; 2:7,10-11,17,26; 3:5,12,21; 6:9-11; 11:3-12; 12:11,17; 21:7 | ”ಜಯ ಹೊಂದುವವನು” (overcomer) risks a self-attained-accomplishment reading paralleling the Lingayat shatsthala ascent; every occurrence must anchor to 12:11’s grace basis (“by the blood of the Lamb”). | Human theologian |
| 4 | Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints | ದುಷ್ಟರ ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರ್ಪು ಮತ್ತು ಪವಿತ್ರ ಜನರ ಸಮರ್ಥನೆ | Critical | 6:9-11; 13:8; 14:9-11; 16:16-19; 17:1-18:24; 19:20; 20:11-15; 21:8 | ”Lake of fire” and “second death” must be final and unending, not a temporary purgatorial Naraka preceding rebirth (Garuḍa Purāṇa-style cosmology). “Books of deeds” (20:12-13) collide directly with the Chitragupta karma-ledger tradition. | Human theologian |
| 5 | The New Heaven and New Earth | ಹೊಸ ಆಕಾಶ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊಸ ಭೂಮಿ | Critical | 21:1-8 (core passage); 21:22-27; 22:1-5 | Readers instinctively map “world ends, new world appears” onto the pralaya/sṛṣṭi dissolution-recreation cycle recurring across yugas/kalpas; this must be taught as a single, final, non-repeating renewal. “Death is no more” (21:4) risks a moksha/mukti reading (escape into formlessness) rather than embodied resurrection life. | Human theologian |
| 6 | The Church as Bride of Christ | ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ವಧುವಾಗಿ ಸಭೆ | High | 19:6-9; 21:2,9-10; 22:17 | Haridasa-bhakti madhurya bhāva (an individual soul as bride longing for Krishna) risks individualizing what Revelation presents as the corporate covenant community’s climactic consummation. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Worship of the Lamb | ಕುರಿಮರಿಯ ಆರಾಧನೆ | Critical | 4:1-5:14; 7:9-17; 14:1-5; 19:1-10; 22:1,3 | ಕುರಿಮರಿ must never be assimilated to folk Hindu/Shakta animal-sacrifice (bali). ಆರಾಧನೆ is the generic word for worship of any deity, so the Lamb’s exclusive right to worship (equal to God’s) must be reinforced by the book’s own worship-vs-idolatry contrasts (19:10; 22:9). The singular shared throne (22:1,3) must not be pluralized. | Human theologian |
| 8 | Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation | ಸಾಂಕೇತಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಕಟನಾ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ | Medium | 1:20; 2:17; 6:1-8; 9:1-11; 12:1; 13:1-18; 17:1-18 | Revelation’s own self-interpreting method (17:7-15) should anchor teaching against speculative allegorizing. “666” invites folk numerology/divination; serpent/dragon and goddess-adjacent imagery (ch.12) require explicit framing given living Kannada devotional practice. | Native speaker review |
| 9 | Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil | ದುಷ್ಟತ್ವದ ಮೇಲೆ ದೇವರ ಅಂತಿಮ ಜಯದ ಭರವಸೆ | High | 12:7-12; 19:11-21; 20:7-10; 21:4-6 | Assurance rests on God’s decisive, once-for-all victory over the dragon (explicitly identified as Satan, 12:9), not an ongoing cosmic balance between good and evil as in some folk-cosmological frameworks; must be preserved without softening despite nāga-veneration resonance. | Human theologian |
| 10 | Deity of Christ (extended in Revelation) | ಪ್ರಕಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ದೇವತ್ವ | Critical | 1:8,17-18; 5:6-14; 19:11-16; 22:1,3,13 | Christ shares the divine self-title “Alpha and Omega” (22:13) and a single, undivided throne with God (22:1,3, singular noun). Must not be read as a divinely-elevated human teacher (Sharana/Aikya category) or one devotional lord among several in a Haridasa devotee’s practice. | Human theologian |
| 11 | Book of Life and the Ground of Final Judgment | ಜೀವ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮತ್ತು ಅಂತಿಮ ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರ್ಪಿನ ಆಧಾರ | Critical | 3:5; 13:8; 17:8; 20:12,15; 21:27; 22:19 | Sharpest collision with the Chitragupta tradition (Yama’s scribe, karma-ledger determining rebirth). Book of Life = register of grace-given belonging through the Lamb, written before creation; distinct from “books of deeds” which confirm, not determine, the justice of a one-time final judgment. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Grace (extended: freely given water/inheritance vs. merit) | ಕೃಪೆ (ಪ್ರಕಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿತ) | High | 1:4; 19:8; 21:6; 22:17,21 | Water of life given ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ (freely); the Bride’s fine linen is “granted,” not self-achieved. Must be taught against both the general Hindu karma-merit economy and the Lingayat kayaka-dasoha ethic, exactly as the baseline documents for Romans 3-4 and 11:5-6. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Salvation (extended: deliverance vs. the second death) | ರಕ್ಷಣೆ (ಎರಡನೆಯ ಮರಣಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿತ) | Critical | 7:9-10; 12:10; 19:1; 20:6,14; 21:7-8 | Sharpens the baseline’s Critical prohibition against ಮೋಕ್ಷ/ಮುಕ್ತಿ/ಐಕ್ಯ by contrasting salvation directly with “the second death” — a single final terminal separation, never a rebirth-cycle event. The saved “great multitude” (7:9-10) remains identifiably distinct persons, not identities dissolved into the divine. | Human theologian |
| 14 | Adoption and Sonship (extended: permanent, undissolved relationship) | ದತ್ತು ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಸಂಬಂಧ | High | 21:3,7; 22:5 | ”I will be his God and he will be my son” and “they will reign forever and ever” confirm a permanent, personal, distinct relationship at history’s end — not a preliminary stage before Aikya-style merger/dissolution of individual identity. | Human theologian |
| 15 | Unity of Jews and Gentiles (consummated in the New Jerusalem) | ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಅನ್ಯಜನಾಂಗದವರ ಏಕತೆಯ ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣತೆ | High | 5:9; 7:9; 21:12-14,24-26; 22:2 | The New Jerusalem’s gates (twelve tribes) and foundations (twelve apostles) unite God’s whole people without caste or ethnic hierarchy — a claim with real resonance given the Lingayat reform movement’s own historic rejection of caste hierarchy. Universality (“every nation, tribe, people, language”) must not be qualified or narrowed. | Human theologian |
| 16 | Inspiration of Scripture (extended: trustworthy and true prophetic words) | ಪ್ರವಾದನೆಯ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾರ್ಹತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ | High | 1:1-3; 10:7; 19:9-10; 21:5; 22:6-7,18-19 | Revelation calls itself “faithful and true” with a severe warning against addition/subtraction (22:18-19) — distinguish this God-breathed, self-authenticating Scripture from the vachana literature of the Sharana poet-saints and Haridasa devotional kirtane, both treasured but categorically different from biblical inspiration. | Human theologian |
| 17 | Sin and Idolatry (the excluded and their end) | ಪಾಪ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಗ್ರಹಾರಾಧನೆ | Critical | 2:14,20; 9:20-21; 13:4,8,14-15; 18:4; 21:8,27; 22:15 | ವಿಗ್ರಹಾರಾಧಕರು is the single most sensitive term in the curriculum: ಆರಾಧನೆ is used throughout for legitimate worship of God/the Lamb, so the contrast must remain doctrinally sharp — this names worship misdirected toward images/created things, not a blanket condemnation of the reader’s family, neighbors, or wider devotional culture. Term itself must not be softened per the no-softening rule; pastoral framing belongs in surrounding notes. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan | ಆತ್ಮಿಕ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮತ್ತು ಸೈತಾನನ ಸೋಲು | Critical | 9:1-11; 12:7-9,10-11; 20:1-3,10 | The “ancient serpent” identified explicitly as Satan (12:9) collides directly with living, widespread nāga (serpent) veneration across Karnataka (nāgakal shrines, Nāgapañcami). ಪಾತಾಳ is forbidden for abyss/Hades due to its Puranic Nāga-loka association; the biblical abyss/Hades is a place of confinement and judgment, categorically different. | Human theologian |
| 19 | The Almighty and the Nature of Divine Power | ಸರ್ವಸಮರ್ಥ ದೇವರು ಮತ್ತು ದೈವಿಕ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯದ ಸ್ವರೂಪ | Critical | 1:8; 4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:14; 19:6,15; 21:22 | Extends the baseline’s forbidden-substitution rule (never ಶಕ್ತಿ for God’s power) into Revelation’s dense, repeated worship-liturgy use of παντοκράτωρ; any ಶಕ್ತಿ-rooted adjective (e.g., ಸರ್ವಶಕ್ತ) risks being read through Karnataka’s prominent Shakta goddess tradition (Chamundeshwari at Mysore) as a distinct divine-feminine power. | Human theologian |
| 20 | The Thousand-Year Reign and Linear (Non-Cyclical) History | ಸಾವಿರ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ರೇಖಾತ್ಮಕ ಇತಿಹಾಸ | High | 20:1-7; 21:1 | The bounded, six-times-repeated “thousand years” is vulnerable to assimilation into the cyclical yuga cosmology of mainstream Hindu thought (repeating cosmic ages across millions of years); must be taught as a specific, historically real, linear period moving toward the single, final consummation of chs. 21-22. | Human theologian |
| 21 | Prayer and Intercession (extended: incense before the throne) | ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆ (ಪ್ರಕಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿತ) | Medium | 5:8; 8:3-4 | ಧೂಪ (incense) is also central to Hindu puja ritual; must be taught as symbolic of the saints’ prayers being received in heaven, not a claim that ritual incense itself carries efficacy apart from Christ’s mediation. | Native speaker review |
| 22 | Priesthood and Royal Identity of Believers | ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಿಗಳ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಯಾಜಕತ್ವದ ಗುರುತು | Medium | 1:6; 5:10; 20:6 | ಯಾಜಕರು risks being read as a hereditary/caste-based priestly office, paralleling both the Brahmin priestly caste and the Lingayat Jangama teacher-office; must be taught as a grace-given status shared equally by all believers. | Native speaker review |
| 23 | Liturgical Worship Forms and Doxology | ಸ್ತುತಿಗೀತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆರಾಧನಾ ಕ್ರಮ | Low | 4:9-11; 5:9-14; 7:12; 15:3-4; 19:1-6 | Standard established transliterations (ಆಮೆನ್, ಹಲ್ಲೆಲೂಯಾ) and worship vocabulary; minor risk of over-ritualization but no significant doctrinal collision on its own — doctrinal weight carried instead by the Worship of the Lamb and Almighty doctrines these passages overlap. | Automated review |
| 24 | Epistolary Greetings and Closing Benedictions | ಪತ್ರಿಕಾ ವಂದನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಪನ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ | Low | 1:4-5; 22:21 | Revelation opens and closes exactly as Paul’s letters do; standard baseline ಕೃಪೆ/ಕರ್ತ/ಯೇಸು renderings apply with low additional risk beyond the baseline’s own Grace doctrine entry. | Automated review |

4. Notes for Phase 1 Next Steps
- Every chapter of Revelation (1-22) has been explicitly reviewed above; no chapter was silently omitted. Chapters whose content chiefly restates an already-documented doctrine (e.g., ch. 8’s trumpet continuation of ch. 6’s seal doctrine; ch. 16’s bowl continuation of ch. 15) are noted within the walkthrough as extensions rather than re-analyzed as new doctrine.
- The core passage, Revelation 21:1-8, carries the single heaviest doctrinal concentration in the book (New Heaven and New Earth, Salvation/second death, Adoption and Sonship, Unity of Jews and Gentiles, Sin and Idolatry, Book of Life, Grace) and should anchor Phase 2 quality-review sampling, without treating it as the boundary of curriculum scope.
- This matrix should be loaded alongside
analysis/08_core_glossary.mdandassets/doctrine_risk_registry.jsonbefore Phase 1 Step 5 (translation memory / term registry updates) and before any Phase 2 segment translation begins.
Critical Risk Doctrines
The Return and Reign of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಪುನರಾಗಮನ ಮತ್ತು ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆ
Key terms: king of kings and lord of lords, thousand years, kingdom transferred, reign forever, alpha and omega
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s reign must be taught as an exclusive, singular, supreme, and permanent sovereignty (ಅರಸರ ಅರಸನೂ ಕರ್ತರ ಕರ್ತನೂ), not one great king/lord distinguished only by degree among India’s rich historical memory of many regional kingdoms and enthroned deities. The ‘thousand years’ (20:2-7) risks assimilation into the cyclical yuga cosmology of mainstream Hindu thought (repeating cosmic ages within an eternally recurring cycle); it must be taught as a bounded, historically real period within a single linear history.
Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints
Kannada name: ದುಷ್ಟರ ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರ್ಪು ಮತ್ತು ಪವಿತ್ರ ಜನರ ಸಮರ್ಥನೆ
Key terms: lake of fire, second death, book of life, books of deeds, judgment according to deeds, great prostitute babylon
Review routing: Human theologian
The ‘books of deeds’ opened at final judgment (20:12-13) collide directly with the popular Chitragupta tradition (Yama’s divine scribe, keeping a karma-ledger of every soul’s deeds to determine its next rebirth). Both the ‘lake of fire’ and ‘second death’ must be taught as final and unending, not a temporary purgatorial Naraka preceding rebirth as in Puranic cosmology (e.g., Garuḍa Purāṇa). The ‘book of life’ (distinct from the books of deeds) must be taught as a register of grace-given belonging through the Lamb, not an achievement ledger.
The New Heaven and New Earth
Kannada name: ಹೊಸ ಆಕಾಶ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊಸ ಭೂಮಿ
Key terms: new heaven and new earth, death no more, no more curse, tree of life, river of water of life, holy city new jerusalem
Review routing: Human theologian
Kannada readers instinctively map ‘world ends, new world appears’ onto the pralaya/sṛṣṭi (dissolution/re-creation) cycle of Puranic cosmology, recurring endlessly across cosmic ages (yugas/kalpas). This must be taught as a single, final, non-repeating renewal. ‘Death is no more’ (21:4) risks being read through a moksha/mukti lens (escape from the death-rebirth cycle into formlessness) rather than embodied bodily-resurrection life in a renewed physical creation.
Worship of the Lamb
Kannada name: ಕುರಿಮರಿಯ ಆರಾಧನೆ
Key terms: lamb, worthy, throne, worship, new song, throne of god and lamb
Review routing: Human theologian
The Lamb (ಕುರಿಮರಿ) must never be assimilated to folk Hindu/Shakta animal-sacrifice practice (bali) offered at regional shrines including to Chamundeshwari; it is a unique, once-slain, now-reigning divine person receiving worship equal to God’s. ಆರಾಧನೆ (worship) is the generic Kannada word for worship of any deity, so the Lamb’s exclusive right to worship must be taught alongside the book’s own worship-vs-idolatry contrasts (e.g., the angel refusing worship, 19:10; 22:9). The singular shared throne of God and the Lamb (22:1,3) is the clearest grammatical evidence for the Lamb’s undivided deity and must not be pluralized.
Deity of Christ (extended in Revelation)
Kannada name: ಪ್ರಕಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ದೇವತ್ವ
Key terms: alpha and omega, word of god title, throne of god and lamb, king of kings and lord of lords, first and the last
Review routing: Human theologian
Extends the baseline’s Critical Deity-of-Christ doctrine with Revelation’s fullest evidence: Christ shares the divine self-title ‘Alpha and Omega’ (22:13) and a single, undivided throne with God (22:1,3, singular noun, not plural). Must not be read as a divinely-elevated human teacher (the closest available Lingayat category, a Sharana who reached Aikya) nor as one devotional lord among several chosen personal deities in a Haridasa devotee’s practice.
Book of Life and the Ground of Final Judgment
Kannada name: ಜೀವ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮತ್ತು ಅಂತಿಮ ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರ್ಪಿನ ಆಧಾರ
Key terms: book of life, books of deeds, lamb’s book of life
Review routing: Human theologian
This is the sharpest collision point in the whole book with the popular Chitragupta tradition — the divine scribe-assistant to Yama widely known in Indian folk religion as keeper of a ledger recording every soul’s deeds, determining the soul’s next rebirth. The Book of Life must be taught as a register of those who belong to God by grace through the Lamb (written from before the foundation of the world), categorically distinct from a merit-accumulation ledger governing reincarnation; the parallel ‘books of deeds’ confirm rather than determine the justice of a one-time, final judgment.
Salvation (extended: deliverance vs. the second death)
Kannada name: ರಕ್ಷಣೆ (ಎರಡನೆಯ ಮರಣಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿತ)
Key terms: salvation, second death, lake of fire, great multitude
Review routing: Human theologian
Revelation sharpens the baseline’s Critical prohibition against ಮೋಕ್ಷ/ಮುಕ್ತಿ/ಐಕ್ಯ by contrasting salvation directly with the ‘second death’ — never a rebirth-cycle event, always a single final terminal separation. Salvation here remains a personal deliverance for a person who remains a person in relationship with God (7:9-10’s ‘great multitude,’ still identifiably distinct individuals from every nation), not a dissolution of identity into the divine.
Sin and Idolatry (the excluded and their end)
Kannada name: ಪಾಪ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಗ್ರಹಾರಾಧನೆ
Key terms: idolaters vice list, mark of the beast, great prostitute babylon, image of the beast
Review routing: Human theologian
ವಿಗ್ರಹಾರಾಧಕರು (‘idol-worshipers’) is the single most sensitive term in the whole curriculum: the same root ಆರಾಧನೆ (worship) is used throughout Revelation for legitimate worship of God/the Lamb, so the contrast must remain doctrinally sharp — this names worship misdirected toward images/created things, not a blanket condemnation of the reader’s own family, neighbors, or wider devotional culture. Per the baseline’s no-softening rule for universality/exclusivity claims, the term itself must not be paraphrased away, though pastoral framing belongs in surrounding teaching notes.
Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan
Kannada name: ಆತ್ಮಿಕ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮತ್ತು ಸೈತಾನನ ಸೋಲು
Key terms: dragon, abyss, hades, accuser
Review routing: Human theologian
The ‘ancient serpent’ identified explicitly as Satan (12:9) collides directly with the living, widespread devotional practice of nāga (serpent) veneration across Karnataka (nāgakal shrines beside village temples, the major Nāgapañcami festival). Likewise, ಪಾತಾಳ is rejected for ‘abyss’/‘Hades’ because of its specific Puranic association with a Nāga-inhabited, often splendorous lower world; the biblical abyss/Hades is a place of confinement and judgment, categorically different. Both terms require explicit teaching notes anticipating this collision.
The Almighty and the Nature of Divine Power
Kannada name: ಸರ್ವಸಮರ್ಥ ದೇವರು ಮತ್ತು ದೈವಿಕ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯದ ಸ್ವರೂಪ
Key terms: almighty, power of god, throne
Review routing: Human theologian
Extends the baseline’s forbidden-substitution rule (never ಶಕ್ತಿ for God’s power) into Revelation’s dense, repeated worship-liturgy use of παντοκράτωρ. Any ಶಕ್ತಿ-rooted adjective (e.g., ಸರ್ವಶಕ್ತ) risks being read through Karnataka’s prominent Shakta goddess tradition (Chamundeshwari at Mysore, tutelary deity of the former Mysore royal house) as a specific divine-feminine power distinct from the one true God’s sovereign might.
High Risk Doctrines
The Sovereignty of God over History
Kannada name: ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಮೇಲೆ ದೇವರ ಸಾರ್ವಭೌಮತ್ವ
Key terms: almighty, throne, seal, trumpet, bowl, no more sea
Review routing: Human theologian
παντοκράτωρ (Almighty) recurs nine times in Revelation’s worship scenes and must never use the ಶಕ್ತಿ root (ಸರ್ವಶಕ್ತ), extending the baseline’s forbidden-substitution rule against Karnataka’s prominent Shakta tradition (Chamundeshwari, tutelary deity of the former Mysore royal house). The unfolding seal-trumpet-bowl sequence must be taught as God’s own controlled unveiling of history, not an impersonal cosmic mechanism akin to karma’s self-operating law.
Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Kannada name: ಹಿಂಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದೃಢತೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಂಬಿಗಸ್ತ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ
Key terms: testimony of jesus, tribulation, overcomer, two witnesses, blood of the lamb and word of testimony
Review routing: Human theologian
ಜಯ ಹೊಂದುವವನು (‘the one who overcomes’) risks being read as a self-attained spiritual accomplishment, closely paralleling the Lingayat devotee’s progressive, self-disciplined ascent through the shatsthala stages toward Aikya. Every occurrence must be anchored to 12:11 (‘by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony’) — victory secured by Christ’s finished work and received by persevering faith, not merit or ascetic discipline.
The Church as Bride of Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ವಧುವಾಗಿ ಸಭೆ
Key terms: bride, marriage supper of the lamb, bride makes herself ready, spirit and bride say come
Review routing: Human theologian
Kannada readers formed by the Haridasa-bhakti tradition carry the madhurya bhāva devotional pattern, in which an individual devotee’s soul is imagined as bride longing for Krishna the divine bridegroom. Revelation’s Bride is the corporate covenant community consummated at history’s climax, not each soul’s private mystical romance with God; this distinction must be taught explicitly wherever ವಧು occurs.
Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil
Kannada name: ದುಷ್ಟತ್ವದ ಮೇಲೆ ದೇವರ ಅಂತಿಮ ಜಯದ ಭರವಸೆ
Key terms: dragon, accuser, it is done, wipe away every tear, wrath of the lamb, reign forever
Review routing: Human theologian
The dragon/ancient serpent, explicitly identified in-text as Satan (12:9), must be preserved without softening despite the living, widespread Kannada devotional practice of nāga (serpent) veneration (nāgakal shrines, Nāgapañcami). Final assurance rests on God’s decisive, once-for-all victory, not an ongoing cosmic balance between good and evil forces as in some folk-cosmological frameworks.
Grace (extended: freely given water/inheritance vs. merit)
Kannada name: ಕೃಪೆ (ಪ್ರಕಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿತ)
Key terms: grace, water of life freely, righteous deeds of saints, bride makes herself ready
Review routing: Human theologian
Revelation restates Romans’ grace-not-merit doctrine at its most climactic: the water of life is given ‘ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ’ (freely, without cost), and the Bride’s fine linen ‘ಪವಿತ್ರ ಜನರ ನೀತಿಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು’ is explicitly ‘granted’ to her (19:8) rather than self-achieved. Must be taught against both the general Hindu karma-merit economy and the Lingayat kayaka-dasoha ethic (disciplined sacred work and sharing establishing standing), exactly as the baseline already documents for Romans 3-4 and 11:5-6.
Adoption and Sonship (extended: permanent, undissolved relationship)
Kannada name: ದತ್ತು ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಸಂಬಂಧ
Key terms: sonship confirmed, reign forever, father
Review routing: Human theologian
‘I will be his God and he will be my son’ (21:7) and ‘they will reign forever and ever’ (22:5) confirm the baseline’s Adoption doctrine at history’s end: a permanent, personal, distinct relationship between God and each redeemed son, not a preliminary stage before an eventual Aikya-style merger or dissolution of individual identity into the divine.
Unity of Jews and Gentiles (consummated in the New Jerusalem)
Kannada name: ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಅನ್ಯಜನಾಂಗದವರ ಏಕತೆಯ ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣತೆ
Key terms: great multitude, glory and honor of nations, foundations gates wall, gentiles
Review routing: Human theologian
The New Jerusalem’s gates (named for the twelve tribes) and foundations (named for the twelve apostles) unite the whole people of God, old and new covenant, without caste or ethnic hierarchy — a claim with real resonance in Karnataka given the Lingayat reform movement’s own historic rejection of caste hierarchy in religious life. Universality (‘every nation, tribe, people, and language,’ 7:9) must not be qualified or narrowed.
Inspiration of Scripture (extended: trustworthy and true prophetic words)
Kannada name: ಪ್ರವಾದನೆಯ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾರ್ಹತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ
Key terms: prophecy, trustworthy and true, mystery
Review routing: Human theologian
Revelation calls itself ‘faithful and true’ (ನಂಬಿಗಸ್ತವೂ ಸತ್ಯವೂ) and attaches a severe warning against addition or subtraction (22:18-19) — distinguish this God-breathed, self-authenticating Scripture from the vachana literature of the Sharana poet-saints (revered as inspired spiritual wisdom born of mystical experience, but not claiming to be God’s own spoken word) and from Haridasa devotional compositions (kirtane), both genuinely treasured but categorically different from biblical inspiration.
The Thousand-Year Reign and Linear (Non-Cyclical) History
Kannada name: ಸಾವಿರ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ರೇಖಾತ್ಮಕ ಇತಿಹಾಸ
Key terms: thousand years, first resurrection, new heaven and new earth
Review routing: Human theologian
The bounded, six-times-repeated ‘thousand years’ (ch. 20) is vulnerable to assimilation into the cyclical yuga cosmology of mainstream Hindu thought (Krita/Tretā/Dvāpara/Kali yugas, vast repeating cosmic ages measured across the millions of years). Must be taught as a specific, historically real, linear period moving toward the single, final, non-repeating consummation of Revelation 21-22, not one age within an eternally recurring cosmic cycle.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation
Kannada name: ಸಾಂಕೇತಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಕಟನಾ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ
Key terms: beast, number of the beast, mystery, woman clothed with sun, four horsemen, seal
Review routing: Native speaker review
Revelation’s own self-interpreting method (e.g., 17:7-15 explaining the woman and the beast) should anchor teaching against speculative allegorizing. Numerology/number-divination (666, 13:18) is a live popular practice in Indian folk religion and must not invite open-ended numerological ‘code-breaking.’ Serpent/dragon imagery (ch. 12) and goddess-adjacent imagery (woman clothed with the sun, 12:1) require explicit interpretive framing given their strong resonance with living Kannada devotional practice (Nāgapañcami, goddess iconography).
Prayer and Intercession (extended: incense before the throne)
Kannada name: ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆ (ಪ್ರಕಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿತ)
Key terms: incense prayers of saints
Review routing: Native speaker review
ಧೂಪ (incense) is also central to Hindu puja ritual; must be taught as a symbolic image for the saints’ prayers being received in heaven, not a claim that ritual incense-offering itself carries spiritual efficacy independent of Christ’s mediation.
Priesthood and Royal Identity of Believers
Kannada name: ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಿಗಳ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಯಾಜಕತ್ವದ ಗುರುತು
Key terms: priesthood of believers, elders
Review routing: Native speaker review
ಯಾಜಕರು (priests) risks being read as a hereditary or caste-based priestly office, paralleling both the Brahmin priestly caste and the Lingayat Jangama teacher-office; must be taught as a grace-given status shared equally by all believers, not an inherited or self-attained office.
Low Risk Doctrines
Liturgical Worship Forms and Doxology
Kannada name: ಸ್ತುತಿಗೀತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆರಾಧನಾ ಕ್ರಮ
Key terms: hallelujah, amen, new song, thanksgiving
Review routing: Automated review
Standard established transliterations and worship vocabulary; minor risk of over-ritualization but no significant doctrinal collision.
Epistolary Greetings and Closing Benedictions
Kannada name: ಪತ್ರಿಕಾ ವಂದನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಪನ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ
Key terms: grace of the lord jesus benediction
Review routing: Automated review
Revelation opens and closes exactly as Paul’s letters do; standard baseline ಕೃಪೆ/ಕರ್ತ/ಯೇಸು renderings apply with low additional risk beyond the baseline’s own Grace doctrine entry.
