Doctrine Analysis
11 — Doctrine Analysis: Galatians (English → Kannada)
Purpose
This document is the full-book doctrine matrix mandated by PRD Phase 1 Step 4. It:
- Walks every chapter of Galatians, first to last, confirming which doctrines are active in each chapter and which supporting passages carry them.
- Explicitly notes chapters or sub-sections that introduce no new doctrinal risk beyond what is already tracked, so no portion of the book is silently skipped.
- Reconciles the chapter-level findings into the consolidated 15-doctrine matrix that is authoritative in
assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json, without altering any risk tier or doctrine name recorded there. - Cross-references the Romans-baseline doctrines (Gospel, Grace, Faith, Salvation, Sin, Church, etc.) that recur in Galatians under their locked baseline tier, so translators see the complete doctrinal picture per chapter, not only the Galatians-specific additions.
The Core Passage (Galatians 2:15-21) anchors the curriculum theologically but is never treated as the boundary of analysis — coverage below runs from 1:1 through 6:18.
Part A — Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrine Walkthrough
Galatians 1 (vv. 1-24)
| Section | Doctrines Active | Key Terms | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1:1-2 | Paul’s Apostleship | apostle (ಅಪೊಸ್ತಲ), “not from men nor through man,” resurrection (ಪುನರುತ್ಥಾನ, baseline) | High | Paul’s opening emphatically denies human origin/appointment for his apostleship — stronger than any Romans parallel. Must not soften into a guru/ಜಂಗಮ-style humanly-recognized teaching authority. | Human theologian |
| 1:3-4 | True Gospel vs. False Gospels; Crucified with Christ (anticipatory: “gave himself for our sins”); Grace (baseline); Father (baseline) | grace (ಕೃಪೆ), peace (ಶಾಂತಿ), “gave himself up” (ತನ್ನನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟನು), present evil age (ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ದುಷ್ಟ ಯುಗ) | Critical (atonement language) / High (age language) | Substitutionary self-giving language triggers the baseline’s mandatory-escalation rule for atonement/propitiation content. ಯುಗ must be clarified as one linear, morally-qualified epoch, not a turn of the cyclical yuga wheel. | Human theologian |
| 1:5 | Glory (baseline) | ಮಹಿಮೆ | High | Standard baseline usage; doxology. | Human theologian (per baseline Glory tier) |
| 1:6-9 | True Gospel vs. False Gospels | different/false gospel (ಬೇರೊಂದು ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ), accursed (ಶಾಪಗ್ರಸ್ತನಾಗಲಿ), gospel (ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ, baseline) | High | The rhetorically strongest denial of religious pluralism in the epistle — must not read as “a different but valid spiritual option,” a serious risk given Karnataka’s genuine multiplicity of respected devotional paths. ಶಾಪಗ್ರಸ್ತ must avoid folk-curse register. | Human theologian |
| 1:10 | Paul’s Apostleship | servant/slave of Christ (ದಾಸ, positive sense) | High | Direct lexical collision with the Haridasa bhakti “dāsa” self-designation; must be anchored Christ-exclusive and commission-based, not devotee-chosen bhakti identity. | Human theologian |
| 1:11-12 | Paul’s Apostleship; True Gospel vs. False Gospels | revelation (ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆ), gospel (ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ) | Medium / High | Direct divine unveiling as the gospel’s source, not human transmission or accumulated teacher-lineage wisdom. | Human theologian |
| 1:13-14 | Paul’s Apostleship | Judaism (ಯೆಹೂದ್ಯ ಮತ), traditions of the fathers (ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳು), church (ಸಭೆ, baseline persecuted) | Medium-High | ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳು is a term shared across Hindu devotional lineages generally; here it must read narrowly as Paul’s own pre-conversion Jewish inheritance, not a slight against any Kannada reader’s own family tradition. | Human theologian (recommended) |
| 1:15-17 | Divine Calling (baseline, intensified); Paul’s Apostleship | called (ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ, “set apart from my mother’s womb”), grace (ಕೃಪೆ) | High | The womb-calling image intensifies the baseline’s sovereign, unearned sense of “called” well beyond Romans 1:1; must not be read as a devotee’s chosen entry into a bhakti “dasa” identity or a Lingayat’s chosen entry into the shatsthala path. | Human theologian |
| 1:18-24 | Church (baseline); Glory (baseline) | church (ಸಭೆ), glorified God (ಮಹಿಮೆಪಡಿಸಿದರು) | Medium/High | Historical-narrative; standard baseline usage. | Native speaker / Human theologian per baseline tiers |
Chapter 1 coverage note: Every verse contributes to either Paul’s Apostleship or True Gospel vs. False Gospels; no verse is without doctrinal load in this chapter.
Galatians 2 (vv. 1-21)
| Section | Doctrines Active | Key Terms | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2:1-5 | Freedom in Christ; Circumcision and the New Creation; True Gospel vs. False Gospels | freedom (ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ), slavery/bondage (ಗುಲಾಮಗಿರಿ), circumcision (ಸುನ್ನತಿ), truth of the gospel (ಸುವಾರ್ತೆಯ ಸತ್ಯ) | Critical/High | Titus’s uncircumcised status defended as a gospel-truth issue, not a negotiable cultural accommodation; “spying out our freedom” frames freedom as relational/gospel-grounded, not political independence. | Human theologian |
| 2:6-10 | Paul’s Apostleship; Unity in Christ | pillars (ಸ್ತಂಭಗಳು), gospel (ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ), Gentiles (ಅನ್ಯಜನಾಂಗದವರು), fellowship (ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯತೆ, “right hand of fellowship”), grace (ಕೃಪೆ) | Low/High | Apostolic recognition of a shared, undivided gospel mission to Jew and Gentile alike. | Native speaker (Low items) / Human theologian (Unity in Christ) |
| 2:11-14 | Unity in Christ; True Gospel vs. False Gospels | hypocrisy (ಕಪಟ), truth of the gospel (ಸುವಾರ್ತೆಯ ಸತ್ಯ), circumcision party, Gentiles (ಅನ್ಯಜನಾಂಗದವರು) | High | Peter’s withdrawal from Gentile table-fellowship under social pressure is the paradigm case for caste-like table-separation risk in a Kannada context; must be rendered so the moral failure is unmistakable, not softened as a matter of etiquette. | Human theologian |
| 2:15-16 | Justification by Faith (Core Passage anchor); Law and Grace | justification (ನೀತಿವಂತರೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸುವುದು ×3), works of the law (ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು ×2), faith (ನಂಬಿಕೆ ×3), law (ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ) | Critical | The doctrinal center of the whole epistle. ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು must be anchored to circumcision/food-law/Sabbath boundary markers, never generalized into “good deeds,” “karma-merit,” or Lingayat kayaka-labor framing. All three occurrences of “justified” in one verse must render identically. | Human theologian |
| 2:17-18 | Justification by Faith; Law and Grace | ”minister of sin” (ಸೇವಕ), “may it never be” (ಅದು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಆಗದಿರಲಿ), transgressor (ಉಲ್ಲಂಘಿಸುವವನು) | Medium/Critical | The emphatic denial formula must retain its rhetorical force; the logic of the passage (does justification-by-faith make Christ a servant of sin?) must not be flattened. | Human theologian |
| 2:19-20 | Crucified with Christ (Core Passage anchor); Adoption/Sonship (Son of God) | crucified with Christ (ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಶಿಲುಬೆಗೆ ಹಾಕಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ), “I no longer live but Christ lives in me,” love (ಪ್ರೀತಿ), Son of God (ದೇವರ ಮಗ), “gave himself for me” | Critical | Christ-accomplished, once-for-all union — never self-mortification/tapas or Lingayat shatsthala self-effort. “Christ lives in me” must not be rendered so as to suggest dissolution of Paul’s personal identity (Aikya-merger risk already flagged in the baseline for salvation/lord); Paul remains a distinct, living, believing subject. | Human theologian |
| 2:21 | Law and Grace (Core Passage anchor); Justification by Faith | grace (ಕೃಪೆ), nullify/set aside (ನಿರಾಕರಿಸು), righteousness (ನೀತಿವಂತಿಕೆ), “in vain” (ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾಗಿ) | Critical | The Core Passage’s climactic conditional (“if righteousness were through the law, Christ died in vain”) is the sharpest statement in the epistle of grace vs. self-effort; ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾಗಿ here means “for nothing,” distinct from the “freely given” sense of the same Greek root elsewhere — confirm sense at every occurrence. | Human theologian |
Chapter 2 coverage note: vv. 1-14 (Jerusalem council and Antioch incident) carry Unity in Christ, Freedom, and True-Gospel doctrine; vv. 15-21 constitute the Core Passage and carry the epistle’s three heaviest doctrines simultaneously. No verse lacks doctrinal load.
Galatians 3 (vv. 1-29)
| Section | Doctrines Active | Key Terms | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3:1-5 | True Gospel vs. False Gospels; Law and Grace; Holy Spirit (baseline) | bewitched (ಮರುಳುಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ), Spirit (ಪವಿತ್ರಾತ್ಮ), works of the law (ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು), hearing with faith (ನಂಬಿಕೆ) | Critical | ಮರುಳುಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ must avoid literal ಮಾಟಮಂತ್ರ given Karnataka’s live evil-eye/sorcery-accusation culture; Paul’s rhetorical question is about false teaching’s power to deceive, not literal magical binding. | Human theologian |
| 3:6-9 | Abrahamic Covenant and Promise; Justification by Faith | imputed righteousness (ಆರೋಪಿತ ನೀತಿ, Genesis 15:6 citation — must render identically to Romans 4:3), blessing (ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ), Gentiles (ಅನ್ಯಜನಾಂಗದವರು), faith (ನಂಬಿಕೆ) | Critical/High | ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ must be read as God’s covenantal favor, not a human elder’s/guru’s ritual blessing — a near-universal Kannada social-religious practice that could otherwise domesticate the term. | Human theologian |
| 3:10-14 | The Law’s Purpose; Abrahamic Covenant and Promise | curse (ಶಾಪ), redeem/redemption (ವಿಮೋಚಿಸು/ವಿಮೋಚನೆ), blessing (ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ), promise of the Spirit (ವಾಗ್ದಾನ) | Critical | ಶಾಪ collides with familiar Puranic sage/deity curse narratives (personal, often reversible by penance); Paul’s covenantal curse is impersonal, textually fixed, and lifted once-for-all by substitution. ವಿಮೋಚನೆ must never shade into ಮೋಕ್ಷ/ಮುಕ್ತಿ — this is a legal purchase-transaction, not attained liberation of consciousness. | Human theologian |
| 3:15-18 | Abrahamic Covenant and Promise | covenant (ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ), promise (ವಾಗ್ದಾನ), seed/offspring (ಸಂತಾನ) | High/Critical | ವಾಗ್ದಾನ and ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ must remain terminologically distinct — the entire argument (promise precedes and cannot be annulled by later law) depends on this. ಸಂತಾನ must preserve the singular-collective grammatical reading; mandatory translator footnote. | Human theologian |
| 3:19-25 | The Law’s Purpose | mediator (ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥ), guardian/paidagōgos (ಪಾಲಕ), law (ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ), promise (ವಾಗ್ದಾನ), faith (ನಂಬಿಕೆ) | Critical/High | ಪಾಲಕ must not be rendered “teacher/guru,” which would wrongly elevate a temporary, now-obsolete custodial office into an ongoing revered teaching role. ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥ must be kept distinct from ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆ (intercession) — a time-bound, salvation-historical office, not a permanent guru-mediator role. | Human theologian |
| 3:26-29 | Adoption and Sonship; Circumcision and the New Creation; Unity in Christ | sons of God (ದೇವರ ಮಕ್ಕಳು), baptized into Christ (ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಪ್ತಿಸ್ಮ ಪಡೆಯುವುದು), put on Christ (ಧರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು), “neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female,” heir (ವಾರಸುದಾರ) | Critical/High | ಬಾಪ್ತಿಸ್ಮ must be transliterated, never ದೀಕ್ಷೆ (guru-initiation rite). The threefold unity formula extends the baseline’s Jew-Gentile unity claim to slave/free and male/female — full unqualified sweep must be retained across all three pairs, resonant with (but not reducible to) the historic Lingayat rejection of caste hierarchy. | Human theologian |
Chapter 3 coverage note: The chapter’s entire argument (Abraham → law → promise → Christ → sons) is doctrinally dense throughout; every section above carries at least one Critical or High doctrine.
Galatians 4 (vv. 1-31)
| Section | Doctrines Active | Key Terms | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4:1-3 | The Law’s Purpose; Adoption and Sonship | heir (ವಾರಸುದಾರ), elemental things (ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳು), slave (ಗುಲಾಮ, negative sense) | Critical | ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳು must avoid astrological (navagraha) or pañcabhūta elemental-cosmology associations; this names elementary/preparatory teaching now superseded, not a cosmic force. | Human theologian |
| 4:4-7 | Adoption and Sonship; Son of God (baseline)/Incarnation-adjacent; Abrahamic Covenant | fullness of time (ಕಾಲದ ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣತೆ), Son of God (ದೇವರ ಮಗ), redeem (ವಿಮೋಚಿಸು), adoption (ದತ್ತು ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ), Abba Father (ಅಬ್ಬಾ, ತಂದೆ), heir (ವಾರಸುದಾರ), slave/son contrast (ಗುಲಾಮ/ಮಗ) | Critical | ಕಾಲದ ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣತೆ must convey a linear, one-time salvation-historical climax — not yuga-cycle timing or astrological muhurta calculation, both live interpretive frames in Kannada culture. ಅಬ್ಬಾ/ತಂದೆ must render identically to the Romans 8:15 baseline occurrence per cross-document consistency rule. | Human theologian |
| 4:8-11 | Law and Grace; Freedom in Christ; God (baseline, exclusivity) | “those who by nature are not gods” (ಸ್ವಭಾವತಃ ದೇವರಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೆ), elemental things (ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳು), slavery (ಗುಲಾಮಗಿರಿ) | High/Critical | This is the sharpest polytheism-critique statement in the epistle; register must remain historical-descriptive of the Galatians’ own pre-conversion past rather than a live present-tense confrontation, per the baseline’s God-exclusivity handling. Extends the baseline’s Critical rating on ದೇವರು’s exclusivity claim. | Human theologian |
| 4:12-20 | Christian identity/relational appeal (pastoral, supports Adoption and Sonship) | “Christ formed in you” (ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನು ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದು), physical infirmity | Medium | Relational Spirit-wrought formation over time, not mystical identity-merger or a step toward Aikya-style dissolution. | Native speaker / Human theologian (recommended given Adoption doctrine linkage) |
| 4:21-31 | Abrahamic Covenant and Promise; Freedom in Christ; Law and Grace | allegory (ಸಾಂಕೇತಿಕ ಅರ್ಥ), two covenants (ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ), Jerusalem above (ಮೇಲಣ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮ್), slavery (ಗುಲಾಮಗಿರಿ), freedom, children of promise (ವಾಗ್ದಾನ) | High/Critical | Controlled, apostolically-authorized typology only — not open-ended mystical hermeneutics that a reader might extend on their own authority. ಮೇಲಣ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮ್ names a real future/present heavenly city and citizenship, not a plane for eventual mystical merger. | Human theologian |
Chapter 4 coverage note: Every section carries Adoption, Law’s Purpose, Covenant/Promise, or Freedom doctrine; vv. 12-20’s personal appeal is the chapter’s lowest-risk section but still supports Adoption and Sonship and is retained in scope, not skipped.
Galatians 5 (vv. 1-26)
| Section | Doctrines Active | Key Terms | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5:1 | Freedom in Christ (thesis verse) | freedom (ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ), yoke of slavery (ಗುಲಾಮಗಿರಿಯ ನೊಗ) | Critical | The doctrine’s anchor verse; full liberating force plus the responsibility not to be re-enslaved to law-based righteousness must both be retained. ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ must be kept relational (freedom FOR sonship/service), distinguished from Indian political-independence connotations and from moksha-style release. | Human theologian |
| 5:2-6 | Circumcision and the New Creation; Law and Grace; Faith Working through Love | circumcision (ಸುನ್ನತಿ), fallen from grace (ಕೃಪೆಯಿಂದ ದೂರ ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದೀರಿ), faith working through love (ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಸಾಧಿಸುವ ನಂಬಿಕೆ) | Critical | ಕೃಪೆಯಿಂದ ದೂರ ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದೀರಿ must be anchored specifically to re-adopting law-based justification, not general moral lapse or karma-demerit loss of standing. 5:6’s genitive construction must not imply love as a second, co-equal ground of justification alongside faith — this would contradict 2:16. | Human theologian |
| 5:7-12 | True Gospel vs. False Gospels; Circumcision and New Creation | stumbling block of the cross (ಶಿಲುಬೆಯ ಎಡವುಗಲ್ಲು), leaven, “mutilate themselves” | High | The scandal of a crucified savior must not be softened for palatability or comparative-religion diplomacy. | Human theologian |
| 5:13-15 | Freedom in Christ; Faith Working through Love | freedom (ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ), servant (ದಾಸ, positive), love (ಪ್ರೀತಿ), law (νόμος — “whole law fulfilled in loving neighbor,” generic sense) | Critical/High | Freedom explicitly redirected toward loving service, not license nor a self-standing goal; ದಾಸ here again engages the Haridasa bhakti-dāsa collision and must be read as Christ-directed loving service flowing from freedom, not renewed bondage. | Human theologian |
| 5:16-18 | Flesh versus Spirit | flesh (ಶರೀರಭಾವ, moral sense), walk by the Spirit (ಆತ್ಮನಿಂದ ನಡೆಯಿರಿ), law (ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, “not under the law”) | High | ಶರೀರಭಾವ must be lexically distinguished from neutral ಶರೀರ (physical body) so Paul’s target reads as a moral-relational disposition, not embodiment itself — important given ascetic/yogic traditions that denigrate the body as such. “Walk by the Spirit” is ongoing Spirit-empowered conduct, not a mystical mārga of self-effort ascent. | Human theologian |
| 5:19-21 | Flesh versus Spirit | works of the flesh (ಶರೀರಭಾವದ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು), idolatry (ವಿಗ್ರಹಾರಾಧನೆ), sorcery (ಮಾಟಮಂತ್ರ/ಮಂತ್ರವಾದ), kingdom of God (ದೇವರ ರಾಜ್ಯ, baseline) | Critical | ವಿಗ್ರಹಾರಾಧನೆ collides directly with mūrti/vigraha worship; ಮಾಟಮಂತ್ರ engages Karnataka’s live, socially volatile folk-magic/evil-eye accusation culture. The full vice list must be translated plainly without euphemism, paired with careful pastoral framing in lesson material rather than removed or softened. | Human theologian |
| 5:22-23 | Fruit of the Spirit (highest-priority collision doctrine in curriculum) | fruit of the Spirit (ಆತ್ಮನ ಫಲ), peace (ಶಾಂತಿ, list item, baseline) | Critical | ಫಲ is the foundational pan-Indian karma-phala term; “fruit of the Spirit” risks being heard as karmic result produced by one’s own spiritual effort, the precise inverse of Paul’s point that this is the Spirit’s organic, gift-given growth. Mandatory dedicated translator note at every occurrence. | Human theologian |
| 5:24-26 | Crucified with Christ; Flesh versus Spirit | crucified the flesh with its passions, live by the Spirit, keep in step with the Spirit (ಆತ್ಮನ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯೋಣ) | Critical/Medium | Extends the once-for-all, Christ-accomplished “crucified with Christ” pattern from 2:20 to the believer’s ongoing flesh-denial — must not collapse into an ascetic self-mortification program run under the believer’s own power. | Human theologian |
Chapter 5 coverage note: Every verse in this chapter carries at least one Critical or High doctrine; this is, together with the Core Passage, the highest doctrinal density chapter in the epistle.
Galatians 6 (vv. 1-18)
| Section | Doctrines Active | Key Terms | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6:1-5 | Bearing One Another’s Burdens | restore gently (ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸುವುದು, baseline), bear one another’s burdens (ಒಬ್ಬರ ಹೊರೆಯನ್ನು ಒಬ್ಬರು ಹೊರುವುದು), law of Christ (ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ನಿಯಮ), one’s own load (ಸ್ವಂತ ಹೊರೆ) | Medium | Two distinct Greek burden-words (βάρος at 6:2, φορτίον at 6:5) must be rendered with visibly distinct Kannada phrasing so the apparent tension between communal burden-sharing and personal accountability is preserved, not flattened. ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ನಿಯಮ must use generic ನಿಯಮ, never ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, to avoid implying Torah-reinstatement. | Native speaker |
| 6:6-10 | Fruit of the Spirit; Bearing One Another’s Burdens | sow/reap (ಬಿತ್ತು/ಕೊಯ್ಯು), household of faith (ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ಮನೆಯವರು) | Critical/Low-Medium | ಬಿತ್ತು/ಕೊಯ್ಯು collides with the proverbial Kannada expression “ಬಿತ್ತಿದಂತೆ ಬೆಳೆ” (karmic-mechanical reading); must clarify a personal, Spirit-relational outcome, consistent with the 5:22-23 fruit doctrine, not impersonal karmic mechanics. | Human theologian |
| 6:11-16 | Circumcision and the New Creation; Crucified with Christ; Unity in Christ | boast (ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಪಡುವುದು), circumcision (ಸುನ್ನತಿ), new creation (ಹೊಸ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ), Israel of God (ದೇವರ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್), peace (ಶಾಂತಿ) | Critical | ಹೊಸ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ is the epistle’s climactic statement and collides directly with the cyclical Hindu cosmological pattern ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ-ಸ್ಥಿತಿ-ಲಯ (creation-preservation-dissolution, repeating without end); must convey a linear, once-for-all, non-repeating divine remaking. ದೇವರ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್’s referent is genuinely debated among interpreters — flag as open ambiguity, do not silently resolve. | Human theologian |
| 6:17-18 | Paul’s Apostleship; Grace (baseline) | marks of Jesus (ಯೇಸುವಿನ ಗುರುತುಗಳು), grace (ಕೃಪೆ) | High/Critical | ಯೇಸುವಿನ ಗುರುತುಗಳು must be distinguished from intentional devotional body-marking (namam, vibhūti, ishtalinga worn as marks of devotion); these are involuntary persecution-scars, evidence of costly faithfulness, not chosen ritual marking. | Human theologian |
Chapter 6 coverage note: The closing chapter carries Bearing One Another’s Burdens (its dedicated doctrine, Medium tier — the epistle’s only non-Critical/High doctrine besides the baseline Low-tier items), plus the epistle’s climactic restatements of Fruit of the Spirit, Crucified with Christ, and Circumcision/New Creation. Confirmed reviewed in full; no verse is without at least Medium-tier doctrinal content.

Part C — Baseline (Romans) Doctrines Recurring in Galatians
These doctrines are already tiered and defined in the Romans baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json; their tiers are locked and reused, not re-assessed here. This table exists purely so translators can see, chapter by chapter, where baseline doctrine also carries weight in Galatians, ensuring full-book coverage is not limited to the 15 Galatians-specific doctrines above.
| Baseline Doctrine | Baseline Risk | Galatians Chapters Present | Galatians-Specific Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gospel | High | 1, 2, 3, 4 | Contrasted against a named counterfeit (1:6-9), a sharper polemical use than in Romans. |
| Grace | High | 1, 2, 5, 6 | Central to the Law and Grace doctrine’s Galatians-specific extension. |
| Faith | High | 2, 3, 5 | Appears three times in Galatians 2:16 alone; anchor term of the Core Passage. |
| Righteousness | Critical | 2, 3, 5 | Never ಧರ್ಮ; 2:21 and 3:6 are load-bearing occurrences. |
| Salvation | Critical | (conceptual, throughout) | Term itself less frequent than in Romans; concept underlies Justification by Faith and Freedom in Christ. |
| Sin | High | 1, 2, 3 | 1:4; 2:15, 17; 3:22 (“Scripture imprisoned everything under sin”). |
| Divine Calling (called/calling) | High | 1, 5 | 1:6, 15 intensify sovereign, unearned calling via the womb-calling image. |
| Holy Spirit | Critical | 3, 4, 5, 6 | Central to chapters 3-6; the Spirit/flesh contrast and Fruit of the Spirit both depend on this term’s precision. |
| Father | Critical | 1, 4 | 1:1, 3, 4; 4:6 (paired with Abba). |
| Abba | High | 4 | Must render identically to Romans 8:15. |
| Son of God | Critical | 2, 4 | 2:20 (Core Passage) and 4:4 (fullness of time) both anchor this term. |
| Lord | Critical | 6 | 6:14, 18; never ಸ್ವಾಮಿ. |
| Resurrection | Critical | 1 | 1:1, establishing Paul’s apostolic commission’s divine source. |
| Peace | Medium | 1, 5, 6 | Also the Fruit of the Spirit list item (5:22) — same rendering, no separate sense required. |
| Fellowship | Low | 2 | 2:9, “right hand of fellowship.” |
| Church | Medium | 1 | 1:2, 13, 22. |
| Law | High | 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 | Never ಧರ್ಮ; kept terminologically distinct from the Galatians-specific “law of Christ” (6:2). |
| Gentiles | Medium | 1, 2, 3 | 1:16; 2:2-15; 3:8, 14. |
| Glory | High | 1 | 1:5, 24. |
| Covenant | High | 3, 4 | Kept distinct from the Galatians-specific “promise” (ವಾಗ್ದಾನ). |
| Israel | Medium | 6 | 6:16, “the Israel of God” — referent debated, flagged for theologian review. |
| God | Critical | throughout | 4:8’s “those who by nature are not gods” directly engages this term’s exclusivity claim. |
| Adoption | High | 3, 4 | 4:5; must render identically to Romans 8. |
| Imputed Righteousness | Critical | 3 | 3:6, identical Genesis 15:6 citation to Romans 4:3; must render identically. |
| Exhort | Low | 6 | 6:1, “restore… gently.” |

Conclusion: All 6 chapters of Galatians have been reviewed first to last. Every chapter contributes load-bearing doctrinal content; none is a doctrinal gap. The Core Passage (2:15-21) is confirmed as the theological anchor carrying three of the epistle’s eight Critical-tier doctrines simultaneously, but chapters 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 each independently carry Critical- or High-tier doctrine and are fully in scope for Phase 2 translation review routing.

No new doctrine, tier, or routing decision is introduced in this document beyond what assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json already records. This file exists to demonstrate, chapter by chapter, that the registry’s 15 doctrines were derived from full first-to-last book coverage and to give Phase 2 translators a chapter-indexed navigation aid alongside the doctrine-indexed registry.
This document extends, and must be read alongside, assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (Galatians v1) and analysis/08_core_glossary.md. It does not supersede the Romans baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json, which remains authoritative for all doctrines shared across curricula (Gospel, Grace, Faith, Righteousness, Salvation, Sin, Calling, Holy Spirit, Father, Son of God, Lord, Resurrection, Peace, Fellowship, Church, Law, Gentiles, Glory, Covenant, Israel, God, Adoption, Imputed Righteousness, Exhort).
Critical Risk Doctrines
Justification by Faith
Kannada name: ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ನೀತಿವಂತರೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವುದು
Key terms: justification, righteousness, faith, works of the law
Review routing: Human theologian
ನೀತಿವಂತರೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸುವುದು (never abbreviated) must remain a one-time forensic declaration received by ನಂಬಿಕೆ. The paired phrase ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು is exposed to the same collision risk the baseline flags for ಧರ್ಮ: Kannada readers of any background may hear ‘works’ as pointing to the near-universal karma-merit framework or the Lingayat kayaka ethic of sacred labor as a ground of standing. This is the Core Passage’s central doctrine and must never be softened or generalized.
Law and Grace
Kannada name: ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃಪೆ
Key terms: law, grace, works of the law, fallen from grace, nullify grace
Review routing: Human theologian
This is the epistle’s central polemic and its highest-stakes syncretism risk: ಕೃಪೆ (unmerited favor) must stand against both the pan-Indian karma-merit economy and the Lingayat kayaka-dasoha ethic (disciplined sacred work and sharing as the ground of standing). ಕೃಪೆಯಿಂದ ದೂರ ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದೀರಿ (5:4) must be anchored specifically to re-adopting law-based justification, not general moral lapse or loss of karmic merit-standing.
Crucified with Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಶಿಲುಬೆಗೆ ಹಾಕಲ್ಪಡುವುದು
Key terms: crucified with Christ, gave himself up, I no longer live, love
Review routing: Human theologian
ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಶಿಲುಬೆಗೆ ಹಾಕಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ must be understood as a once-for-all, Christ-accomplished union done TO the believer, never as the Hindu ascetic tapas ideal of self-imposed mortification accumulating merit, nor as the Lingayat devotee’s progressive self-effort through the shatsthala stages toward Aikya. ‘Christ lives in me’ (2:20) must not read as dissolution of Paul’s personal identity (a live risk given the Aikya-merger conceptual field already flagged for ‘salvation’ and ‘lord’ in the baseline) — Paul remains a living, willing subject.
The Law’s Purpose
Kannada name: ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಉದ್ದೇಶ
Key terms: guardian/paidagogos, curse of the law, mediator, elemental things
Review routing: Human theologian
ಶಾಪ (curse of the law) collides with deeply familiar Puranic sage/deity curse narratives (Ramayana, Mahabharata, Puranas) in which a curse is a personal, often-reversible act of an offended being; Paul’s covenantal curse is impersonal, textually-fixed, and lifted once-for-all by substitution, not penance. ಪಾಲಕ (paidagōgos) must not be rendered as ‘teacher/guru,’ which would wrongly elevate the law’s now-obsolete custodial function to an ongoingly-revered teaching office. ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳು (stoicheia) must avoid Karnataka’s live astrological (navagraha) and pañcabhūta elemental cosmology associations.
Freedom in Christ
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ
Key terms: freedom, yoke of slavery, slavery/bondage, law of Christ
Review routing: Human theologian
ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ carries strong Indian political-independence connotations (Swatantrya Samara) and a secondary risk of conflation with the Hindu soteriological goal of release from the rebirth cycle; this freedom must remain relational — freedom FOR sonship and loving service (5:13), not a dissolving of constraint as an end in itself. ಗುಲಾಮಗಿರಿಯ ನೊಗ (yoke of slavery, 5:1) is the doctrine’s thesis-verse and must retain the full force of decisive, Christ-accomplished liberation coupled with the responsibility to resist re-enslavement to law-based righteousness.
Circumcision and the New Creation
Kannada name: ಸುನ್ನತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊಸ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ
Key terms: circumcision, baptized into Christ, new creation
Review routing: Human theologian
ಸುನ್ನತಿ is most culturally associated in contemporary Karnataka with Islamic practice; readers must understand this concerns the Old Testament covenant sign and its status for Gentile believers, not a contemporary interfaith comparison. ಹೊಸ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ (6:15, the epistle’s climactic statement) collides directly with the Hindu cyclical cosmological pattern ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ-ಸ್ಥಿತಿ-ಲಯ (creation-preservation-dissolution, repeating without end); must convey a linear, once-for-all, non-repeating divine remaking.
Fruit of the Spirit
Kannada name: ಆತ್ಮನ ಫಲ
Key terms: fruit of the Spirit, sow and reap, keep in step with the Spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
ಫಲ (phala) is the foundational Kannada/Sanskrit term for the ‘fruit/result’ of an action in the pan-Indian karma-phala doctrine, assumed background knowledge for nearly every reader regardless of tradition; ‘fruit of the Spirit’ risks being heard as karmic result produced by one’s own spiritual effort — the precise opposite of Paul’s point that this is the Spirit’s organic, gift-given growth (5:25). The companion sow/reap saying (6:7-8) collides with the proverbial Kannada expression ‘ಬಿತ್ತಿದಂತೆ ಬೆಳೆ.’ This is assessed as the single highest cultural-collision risk in the entire curriculum and requires a dedicated translator note at every occurrence.
Faith Working through Love
Kannada name: ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಸಾಧಿಸುವ ನಂಬಿಕೆ
Key terms: faith working through love, love, faith
Review routing: Human theologian
The Greek genitive construction is genuinely ambiguous (love as faith’s expression vs. love as faith’s co-constitutive activator); given Galatians’ overwhelming insistence elsewhere (2:16; 3:2-5) on faith alone apart from works, the Kannada rendering must not imply love functions as a second, added ground of justification alongside faith, which would contradict the Core Passage’s argument. ಪ್ರೀತಿ itself must be distinguished from Haridasa bhakti-love directed devotee-to-deity, since here the initiating love flows from Christ toward the sinner (2:20).
High Risk Doctrines
The True Gospel versus False Gospels
Kannada name: ನಿಜವಾದ ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸುಳ್ಳು ಸುವಾರ್ತೆಗಳು
Key terms: gospel, different gospel, accursed, truth of the gospel, bewitched
Review routing: Human theologian
ಬೇರೊಂದು ಸುವಾರ್ತೆ must never read as a second legitimate religious option comparable to Karnataka’s own flourishing devotional traditions (Haridasa bhakti, Veerashaiva Sharana teaching) alongside the true gospel — Paul explicitly denies (1:7) it is a gospel at all. ಶಾಪಗ್ರಸ್ತನಾಗಲಿ (anathema) must convey covenantal-judicial total repudiation without triggering folk-magic ಶಾಪ associations. ಮರುಳುಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ (bewitched, 3:1) must avoid literal ಮಾಟಮಂತ್ರ given Karnataka’s live and sometimes volatile evil-eye/sorcery-accusation culture.
Paul’s Apostleship
Kannada name: ಪೌಲನ ಅಪೊಸ್ತಲತ್ವ
Key terms: apostle, revelation, called, servant of Christ, traditions of the fathers
Review routing: Human theologian
Paul’s insistence that his apostleship is ‘not from men nor through man’ (1:1) intensifies the baseline’s caution against ಗುರು/ಜಂಗಮ collision, since a guru’s or jangama’s authority is precisely humanly-recognized and attained. ದಾಸ (Christ’s servant, 1:10) directly collides with the Haridasa bhakti tradition’s own ‘dāsa’ self-designation (Dāsa Sāhitya literature); must be anchored as Christ-exclusive and apostolically-commissioned, not a devotee-chosen bhakti pattern. ಯೇಸುವಿನ ಗುರುತುಗಳು (marks of Jesus, 6:17) risks assimilation to intentional devotional body-marking (namam, vibhūti, ishtalinga) rather than involuntary persecution scars.
The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Kannada name: ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಾಗ್ದಾನ
Key terms: promise, covenant, seed/offspring, blessing, imputed righteousness
Review routing: Human theologian
ವಾಗ್ದಾನ (promise) must remain terminologically distinct from ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆ (covenant), since the chapter’s argument (the promise given 430 years before the law cannot be annulled by the law) depends on this distinction. ಸಂತಾನ (seed, singular-collective) must preserve Paul’s grammatical argument that the promised offspring is Christ, not many descendants. ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ (blessing) must be read as God’s covenantal favor, not a human elder’s or guru’s ritual blessing (a nearly universal Kannada social-religious practice).
Adoption and Sonship
Kannada name: ದತ್ತು ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ
Key terms: adoption, Abba, Father, heir, no longer a slave but a son, Christ formed in you
Review routing: Human theologian
ದತ್ತು ಪುತ್ರತ್ವ and ಅಬ್ಬಾ must render identically to their Romans 8 baseline occurrences per the cross-document consistency rule. The ದಾಸ/ಗುಲಾಮ distinction is essential here: 4:7’s ‘no longer a slave (ಗುಲಾಮ) but a son’ uses the negative slavery-under-law sense, contrasted with full inheritance-bearing sonship, and must not be confused with the positive ದಾಸ (servant of Christ) sense used at 1:10 and 5:13.
Flesh versus Spirit
Kannada name: ಶರೀರಭಾವ ಮತ್ತು ಆತ್ಮ
Key terms: flesh (moral sense), walk by the Spirit, works of the flesh, idolatry, sorcery
Review routing: Human theologian
ಶರೀರಭಾವ (moral ‘flesh’) must be lexically distinguished from neutral ಶರೀರ (physical body), since several Hindu ascetic/yogic traditions denigrate embodiment itself; Paul’s target is a moral-relational disposition, not materiality. Within the works-of-the-flesh list, ವಿಗ್ರಹಾರಾಧನೆ (idolatry) collides directly with mūrti/vigraha worship, and ಮಾಟಮಂತ್ರ (sorcery) engages Karnataka’s live, socially volatile folk-magic/evil-eye accusation culture; both must be translated plainly without euphemism but flagged for careful pastoral framing.
Unity in Christ (Jew/Greek, Slave/Free, Male/Female)
Kannada name: ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನಲ್ಲಿ ಏಕತೆ
Key terms: no distinction, one in Christ Jesus, circumcision, Gentiles
Review routing: Human theologian
Extends the Romans baseline’s Jew-Gentile unity doctrine to slave/free and male/female categories, a scope broader than the Romans doctrine registry captures. This claim resonates with (but is not identical to) the historic Lingayat reform movement’s own rejection of caste-based religious hierarchy; the full, unqualified sweep across all three listed categories must be retained without softening, consistent with the baseline’s instruction never to qualify universality claims.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Bearing One Another’s Burdens
Kannada name: ಒಬ್ಬರ ಹೊರೆಯನ್ನು ಒಬ್ಬರು ಹೊರುವುದು
Key terms: bear one another’s burdens, one’s own load, law of Christ, household of faith
Review routing: Native speaker review
Two distinct Greek burden-words (βάρος at 6:2, φορτίον at 6:5) must be rendered with visibly distinct Kannada phrasing (ಹೊರೆ vs. ಸ್ವಂತ ಹೊರೆ) so the apparent tension between communal burden-sharing and personal accountability is preserved rather than flattened. ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ನಿಯಮ (law of Christ) must use generic ನಿಯಮ, never ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, to avoid suggesting Paul reinstates Torah-observance under a new label.
