Cross-Reference Analysis

09 — Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis: Acts 1–28

How to read this document

This document maps every Old Testament quotation and allusion, every messianic reference, every typological pattern, and every substantive parallel to the Romans curriculum, chapter by chapter across the whole of Acts. Where a chapter contains no new cross-reference material beyond what is already tracked, it is explicitly marked “Reviewed — no new cross-references” rather than omitted, per the full-book coverage mandate. Translation sensitivity notes flag where the Kannada rendering must guard against the syncretism risks already documented in 07_semantic_analysis.md and the Romans baseline.

PART A — Core Passage Matrix: Acts 2:1–41

Acts PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Acts 2:1-4Holy Spirit and Pentecost; new covenant inaugurationThe apostles; the 120Typological reversal of Genesis 11:1-9 (Babel’s scattering/confusion of tongues reversed by Spirit-given unity of understanding); fulfillment of Exodus 19:16-19 Sinai theophany pattern (fire, sound, mountain/house shaking) — the Spirit-given “law written on the heart” replacing the law given at Sinai (cf. Jeremiah 31:33)The wind/fire/sound triad must not be softened into generic mystical atmosphere; keep the Sinai-covenant resonance so learners see Pentecost as the giving of the new covenant, not a free-floating spiritual experience
Acts 2:5-11Universal scope of the gospel; Gospel to Jews and Gentiles (seed form)Diaspora Jews and proselytes from every nationAnticipates Genesis 12:3 (“in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed”) worked out through language-inclusion rather than language-confusionRetain the specific, extensive nation-list; do not abbreviate — the list itself is the theological point (every nation representative, gospel already global at its birth)
Acts 2:17-21Holy Spirit and Pentecost; last days; universal callingPeter (preaching); “your sons and your daughters”Direct quotation: Joel 2:28-32Must render identically wherever Joel 2:32’s “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” recurs — this exact clause is quoted again by Paul at Romans 10:13. MANDATORY verbatim Kannada consistency across Acts and Romans curricula (see Part E below)
Acts 2:22Apostolic authority and miracles; deity of ChristJesus of NazarethEchoes Exodus 3:20 / Deuteronomy 34:11-12 pattern of God authenticating his messenger through mighty actsSee 07_semantic_analysis.md ch.2 note on ಸೂಚಕಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು/ಅದ್ಭುತಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು; distinguish from siddhi/godman miracle claims
Acts 2:23Providence; crucifixion as both God’s plan and human guilt”you” (the crowd); “lawless men” (Romans)Echoes Isaiah 53:10 (“it was the will of the LORD to crush him”) and Genesis 50:20 (Joseph typology: “you meant evil… God meant it for good”)Preserve the double-agency tension (divine plan + human responsibility); do not collapse into either fatalism (ಹಣೆಬರಹ) or pure human autonomy
Acts 2:25-28Resurrection of Christ; Messianic promiseDavid (as prophet); Christ (referent)Direct quotation: Psalm 16:8-11Also quoted again in the Acts curriculum itself at Acts 13:35; Kannada rendering of “you will not let your Holy One see corruption” must be identical at both occurrences
Acts 2:29-31Davidic covenant; resurrection; messianic promiseDavid; ChristAlludes to 2 Samuel 7:12-16 (Davidic covenant, “I will raise up your offspring… and I will establish his kingdom”) and Psalm 132:11Requires the same OT covenant background flagged High-risk in the Romans baseline’s davidic_covenant doctrine entry; Kannada learners need the 2 Samuel 7 background supplied in teaching notes, not assumed
Acts 2:30Davidic covenant; messianic promiseDavidAlludes to Psalm 132:11, 2 Samuel 7:12-13See above
Acts 2:33Lordship and exaltation of Christ; the promised SpiritChrist (exalted); the FatherFulfillment pattern of Psalm 68:18 (“you ascended on high… received gifts among men,” quoted directly in Ephesians 4:8, not in Acts, but the conceptual background to “poured out”)Note for teaching cross-reference only; no direct quotation in this verse
Acts 2:34-35Lordship of Christ; deity of Christ; Trinitarian distinctionThe Father (“The Lord”); Christ (“my Lord”)Direct quotation: Psalm 110:1CRITICAL: this is the single most quoted OT verse in the entire New Testament regarding Christ’s exaltation; render so both occurrences of κύριος are visibly ಕರ್ತ referring to two distinct persons in relationship, per baseline’s Trinitarian handling of ಕರ್ತ. Cross-reference Romans 8:34 (“at the right hand of God”) shares the same Psalm 110 background though it does not quote the verse directly
Acts 2:36Lordship of Christ; deity of Christ; Messianic promiseChristClimax of the Psalm 110/Psalm 16 argument; conceptually parallel to Romans 1:4 (“declared to be the Son of God… by his resurrection”)Both Acts 2:36 and Romans 1:4 assert the same truth: Christ’s identity as Lord/Son is publicly declared, not conferred by promotion. Kannada teaching notes should cross-reference this explicitly to prevent an adoptionist misreading in either passage
Acts 2:38Repentance and baptism; forgiveness of sins; gift of the SpiritPeter; the crowdEchoes Ezekiel 36:25-27 (cleansing water + new heart + God’s Spirit put within) as the OT conceptual background uniting repentance, washing, and Spirit-gift in one promiseKannada teaching notes may supply Ezekiel 36:25-27 as background even though Peter does not quote it directly — it explains why repentance, baptism, and Spirit-gift are bound together as one promise rather than three separate transactions
Acts 2:39Universal scope of the gospel; Gospel to Jews and GentilesPeter; “you,” “your children,” “all who are far off”Echoes Isaiah 57:19 (“peace, peace, to the far and to the near”) and anticipates Ephesians 2:13, 17 (not in this curriculum, but the same “far/near” language)Retain full universal scope; “far off” must be read as ethnic/covenantal (Gentile inclusion), not merely geographic distance from Jerusalem
Acts 2:40-41Repentance and baptism; the Church as communityPeter; the 3,000 baptizedEchoes Deuteronomy 32:5 (“crooked and twisted generation”)Numeric “3,000 souls added” (ψυχαί) should be rendered as persons, not souls-as-metaphysical-entities (see 07_semantic_analysis.md v.41 note)

Acts 1 — Ascension and Apostolic Commission

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 1:8Great Commission Fulfilled; mission structure of the whole bookThe apostlesEchoes Isaiah 49:6 (“a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth”) — quoted directly later at Acts 13:47This verse functions as the book’s own table of contents (Jerusalem → Judea/Samaria → ends of the earth); flag for teaching as the structural key to all 28 chapters
Acts 1:9-11Ascension; return of ChristJesus; two angels; the apostlesTypological parallel to 2 Kings 2:11 (Elijah taken up in a whirlwind) and Daniel 7:13-14 (“one like a son of man… with the clouds of heaven”)Must not be read as a generic apotheosis/translation-to-glory narrative parallel to guru or Sharana ascent traditions; this is bodily, visible, promised-to-return (v.11)
Acts 1:16-20Fulfillment of prophecy; Judas’s betrayal and replacementPeter; JudasDirect quotations: Psalm 69:25 and Psalm 109:8Standard messianic-suffering psalms; low syncretism risk, but note both psalms are also messianic-typological (Psalm 69 is quoted of Christ elsewhere, e.g. John 2:17, John 15:25)
Acts 1:24Divine election; God’s knowledge of the heartThe apostles (praying)Echoes 1 Samuel 16:7 (“the LORD looks on the heart”) and 1 Kings 8:39Supports ಆಯ್ಕೆ (election) doctrine already High-risk in Romans baseline; God’s choice, not the apostles’ own discernment alone, decides between the two candidates

Acts 3 — Healing at the Temple Gate; Peter’s Second Sermon

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity

Acts 3:25Davidic/Abrahamic covenant; universal scope of the gospelPeter; AbrahamDirect quotation/paraphrase: Genesis 22:18 (cf. Genesis 12:3, 26:4)Directly parallels Romans 4:13 (“the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world”) and Romans 4:16-17; this is the Abrahamic-covenant root of the Gospel to Jews and Gentiles doctrine unit — cross-reference required

Acts 4 — Peter and John Before the Sanhedrin

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 4:11Messianic promise; rejection and vindication of ChristPeter; the rulersDirect quotation: Psalm 118:22 (“the stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone”)Same verse quoted by Jesus himself (Luke 20:17) and by Paul-adjacent tradition at 1 Peter 2:7 (not in this curriculum); establish as a fixed messianic proof-text
Acts 4:12Exclusivity of salvation; salvationPeterConceptually completes Joel 2:32’s “calls on the name of the LORD” by identifying that name as Jesus’s aloneMANDATORY theologian review (already flagged in 08_core_glossary.md Section 3); parallels Romans 10:9-13’s exclusive confession structure
Acts 4:24-26Providence; opposition to God’s MessiahThe believers (praying); “rulers… against the Lord and against his Anointed”Direct quotation: Psalm 2:1-2Psalm 2 recurs at Acts 13:33 (v.7, “You are my Son”); track both occurrences for consistent psalm-numbering citation and consistent rendering of ಕರ್ತ/ಮೆಸ್ಸೀಯ
Acts 4:32-35Church as community; graceThe Jerusalem believersEchoes Deuteronomy 15:4 (“there will be no poor among you,” the Jubilee/covenant-community ideal)Partial cultural resonance with kayaka-dasoha ethic (already noted in Romans baseline); teach as grace-motivated response, not a duty that earns standing

Acts 5 — Ananias and Sapphira; Gamaliel’s Counsel

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 5:3-4Deity/personhood of the Holy SpiritAnanias; PeterNo direct OT quotation; theological argument (lying to the Spirit = lying to God) functions as an implicit high Christology/pneumatology proof textKey trinitarian data point; cross-reference with Romans baseline’s ಪವಿತ್ರಾತ್ಮ Critical-tier entry
Acts 5:30-31Resurrection; exaltation; forgiveness of sinsPeter; the SanhedrinEchoes Deuteronomy 21:22-23 (“hanged on a tree,” also used at Galatians 3:13, not in this curriculum)The “tree” (ξύλον) language for the cross recurs at Acts 10:39, 13:29; consistent rendering recommended
Acts 5:38-39Providence; divine sovereignty over human plansGamalielEchoes wisdom-literature pattern (cf. Proverbs 19:21, “many are the plans… but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand”)Descriptive wisdom-saying, not asserted apostolic doctrine; low risk but useful providence cross-reference

Acts 6 — The Seven; Stephen Seized

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 6:7Obedience of faith; growth of the word”a great many… obedient to the faith”Conceptually parallel to Romans 1:5, 16:26’s ὑπακοὴ πίστεως (obedience of faith)Direct doctrinal parallel — reuse Romans TM ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ವಿಧೇಯತ್ವ rendering pattern if this exact phrase is echoed in lesson material
Acts 6:13-14Law and Temple; fulfillment in ChristFalse witnesses against StephenAlludes to Jesus’s own temple-destruction saying (cf. Mark 14:58, not in this curriculum)Sets up ch.7’s fuller Temple critique

Acts 7 — Stephen’s Speech and Martyrdom

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 7:2-16Salvation history; Abrahamic/Josephic typologyAbraham; JosephExtended narrative summary of Genesis 12, 15, 17, 37–50Joseph is a recognized typological forerunner of Christ (rejected by his own, exalted to save many, including former enemies) — flag for typology table below
Acts 7:17-44Salvation history; Moses typology; lawMosesExtended narrative summary of Exodus 1–20; quotes Exodus 3:5-10 (burning bush) directly at 7:33-34Moses as deliverer-mediator type of Christ; foundational for “Christ as Prophet” typology
Acts 7:37Messianic promise; Christ as the ProphetStephen; MosesDirect quotation: Deuteronomy 18:15 (repeats Acts 3:22)Render identically to Acts 3:22
Acts 7:42-43Idolatry; false worship; judgmentStephen; Israel in the wildernessDirect quotation: Amos 5:25-27Background to Romans 1:23,25’s idolatry indictment; both texts name the exchange of true worship for false objects
Acts 7:49-50God’s transcendence; critique of temple/idol confinementStephenDirect quotation: Isaiah 66:1-2 (“heaven is my throne… what house will you build for me?”)Directly parallels Acts 17:24’s “does not live in temples made by hands”; the two passages should use identical Kannada phrasing for χειροποίητος (ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ)
Acts 7:51-53Resistance to the Spirit; hardened heartsStephen; the SanhedrinEchoes Isaiah 63:10 (“they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit”) and Jeremiah 6:10 (“their ears are uncircumcised”)“Stiff-necked” (σκληροτράχηλοι) echoes Exodus 32:9, 33:3, 5 directly
Acts 7:54-60First martyrdom; bold witness; forgivenessStephenEchoes Jesus’s own words on the cross (Luke 23:34, 46, not in this curriculum) — Stephen’s death is patterned typologically after Christ’sFoundational event for the developing μάρτυς (witness→martyr) semantic arc tracked since Acts 1:8; flag for cross-chapter doctrinal note

Acts 8 — Philip, Simon Magus, the Ethiopian Eunuch

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 8:26-38Messianic promise; suffering Servant; Gospel to Gentiles (proto-Gentile)Philip; the Ethiopian eunuchDirect quotation: Isaiah 53:7-8Central messianic Servant-Song text; render consistently with any Isaiah 53 material elsewhere in the wider curriculum. The eunuch’s inclusion (cf. Deuteronomy 23:1 exclusion reversed) is a key Gospel-to-Gentiles/universal-scope marker
Acts 8:20-23Grace vs. purchased power; sinPeter; Simon MagusEchoes Deuteronomy 29:18 (“root bearing poisonous fruit”) in Peter’s rebuke (“gall of bitterness”)Reinforces grace-vs-merit distinction already High-risk in Romans baseline; Simon’s attempt to buy the Spirit’s gift is the narrative antithesis of grace

Acts 9 — The Conversion of Paul

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 9:1-19Conversion of Paul; election; graceSaul/Paul; Ananias; ChristEchoes prophetic call-narratives: Jeremiah 1:5 (“before I formed you in the womb I knew you”), Isaiah 49:1Cross-reference Galatians 1:15 (not in this curriculum, but same “set apart from my mother’s womb” language Paul later uses of himself)
Acts 9:15Election; mission to Gentiles and kingsChrist (to Ananias, of Paul)Conceptually parallel to Romans 9:11-13 (election prior to merit) and Romans 8:28-30 (God’s purposive calling)ಆಯ್ಕೆಯ ಸಾಧನ (“chosen instrument”) directly reuses Romans TM ದೇವರ ಆಯ್ಕೆ; cross-reference required
Acts 9:20Deity/Sonship of ChristPaul (newly converted)Echoes Psalm 2:7 background (Son of God title)First proclamation by Paul; parallels Romans 1:4’s “Son of God” declaration

Acts 10 — Cornelius and the Gentile Pentecost

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 10:9-16Ritual purity dismantled; Gospel to GentilesPeter (vision)Echoes Leviticus 11 (clean/unclean food laws) being reinterpretedHandle with the same pastoral care the baseline recommends for caste-sensitive material; do not soften the vision’s plain meaning
Acts 10:34-35Impartiality of God; unity of Jews and GentilesPeterEchoes Deuteronomy 10:17 (“God… who is not partial”)Direct doctrinal parallel to Romans 2:11 (“God shows no partiality”) — MANDATORY consistent rendering: ದೇವರು ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತ ಮಾಡುವವನಲ್ಲ should match however Romans 2:11 is rendered in the Romans curriculum

Jeremiah 31:34, Isaiah 53:5)Cross-reference Romans 4’s “blessed is the one whose sin is not counted” (Psalm 32, quoted at Romans 4:7-8, not directly in Acts)
Acts 10:44-48Holy Spirit and Pentecost (Gentile repetition); universal scopeCornelius’s householdDeliberate narrative parallel to Acts 2:1-4 — “the Gentile Pentecost”This is the single most important internal cross-reference in Acts: the Spirit falls on Gentiles exactly as at Jerusalem, without prior circumcision/law-keeping. Teaching material should explicitly link back to the core passage

Acts 11 — Jerusalem’s Response; Antioch

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 11:15-18Repentance unto life; Gospel to Gentiles confirmedPeter (reporting); Jerusalem churchRecalls Acts 2 and Acts 10 directly by Peter’s own words (“as on us at the beginning”)Internal Acts cross-reference; confirms Gentile inclusion is not a lesser-tier repentance
Acts 11:26Church as community; Christian identityBelievers at AntiochNo OT quotation; first occurrence of ΧριστιανοίEstablish ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ as a distinct communal identity, not a generic religious label

Acts 12 — Herod’s Persecution and Death

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 12:1-19Persecution and bold witness; providence; intercessionJames; Peter; the church (praying)Typological parallel to Israel’s deliverances from hostile kings (cf. Exodus 12-14 pattern of deliverance by night)Reinforces ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆ (intercession) and ದೇವರ ಪರಿಪಾಲನೆ (providence) doctrines
Acts 12:20-23Judgment on self-exalting rulers; deity of God aloneHerod Agrippa IEchoes Ezekiel 28:2-10 and Daniel 4:28-33 (proud kings struck down for accepting worship/glory belonging to God alone)Reinforces ಮಹಿಮೆ (glory) as God’s alone, not to be received by any human figure — directly relevant to the “godman”/deification-of-humans risk already flagged for Acts 14

Acts 13:35Resurrection of ChristPaul; ChristDirect quotation: Psalm 16:10 (repeats Acts 2:27)Render identically to Acts 2:27/2:31
Acts 13:38-39Justification apart from the Law; forgiveness of sinsPaulDirect doctrinal statement; conceptually parallels Genesis 15:6 (Abraham’s faith counted as righteousness, quoted at Romans 4:3) and Romans 3:20-28CRITICAL — this is the Acts curriculum’s central “Justification apart from the Law” passage. MANDATORY identical rendering of ನೀತಿವಂತರೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸುವುದು and ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ per the Romans baseline; mandatory theologian review
Acts 13:41Warning against unbeliefPaul (quoting)Direct quotation: Habakkuk 1:5Note: Habakkuk 2:4 (“the righteous shall live by faith”) is the thesis-verse of Romans 1:17; Acts quotes a different verse from the same prophetic book — flag the shared book for teaching continuity but do not conflate the two citations

Acts 15 — The Jerusalem Council

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 15:10-11Justification apart from the Law; gracePeterConceptually parallels Romans 3:24, 11:6 (grace vs. works)Same grace/law tension as Acts 13; reuse identical ಕೃಪೆ/ರಕ್ಷಣೆ terms

Acts 15:28Holy Spirit’s authority in church decisionsThe Jerusalem councilNo OT quotation; landmark statement of Spirit-guided corporate discernmentSee semantic analysis note; preserve Spirit named first

Acts 16 — Lydia, the Jailer, the Python Spirit

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 16:16-18Apostolic authority over occult powersPaul; the slave girlNo direct OT quotation; the underlying category (false/deceptive spirits vs. true prophecy) echoes Deuteronomy 18:10-14’s prohibition of divination immediately preceding the “prophet like me” promise (Deuteronomy 18:15, already quoted Acts 3:22/7:37)Strong internal Deuteronomy 18 cross-reference: the same chapter that promises the true Prophet also forbids the divination this spirit represents
Acts 16:30-31Salvation; faithThe Philippian jailer; Paul and SilasConceptually parallel to Romans 10:9 (“if you confess… and believe… you will be saved”)MANDATORY verbatim-consistent rendering across Acts and Romans curricula (already flagged in 08_core_glossary.md Section 3)

Acts 17:28Creaturely dependence on God (NOT ontological union)PaulQuotes Greek poets (Epimenides; Aratus’s Phainomena), not OT scripture — used apologetically the way Paul cites pagan sources elsewhere (cf. Titus 1:12, not in this curriculum)CRITICAL Aikya-adjacent risk already flagged; mandatory theologian review; must not be rendered as ontological merger
Acts 17:29Idolatry critiquePaulEchoes Isaiah 40:18-20, Isaiah 44:9-20 (idol-making polemics)Direct conceptual parallel to Romans 1:23 (“exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images”)

Acts 18 — Corinth: Gallio’s Ruling

Reviewed — no new OT quotations. Continues synagogue-ministry pattern established since Acts 9; Acts 18:6 (“your blood be on your own heads… I am innocent”) echoes Ezekiel 33:4 and 2 Samuel 1:16 (prophetic responsibility-transfer formula). Low risk; supports the bold-witness doctrine unit but introduces no new syncretism concern beyond what chapters 4 and 7 already establish.

Acts 19 — Ephesus: Exorcism and the Artemis Riot

Acts 20 — Farewell to the Ephesian Elders

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 20:28Deity of Christ; church oversight; atonementPaul; the Ephesian elders”Church of God, which he obtained with his own blood” — echoes Psalm 74:2 (“the congregation… which you have purchased of old”)High doctrinal density; implies deity of Christ (God’s “own blood”); cross-reference Romans baseline’s Deity of Christ Critical-tier entry
Acts 20:35Generosity; grace-motivated givingPaul (quoting Jesus)Cites an unwritten saying of Jesus not found in the Gospels (“it is more blessed to give than to receive”) — an agraphonLow risk; note for teaching that this is an authentic saying of Jesus preserved only here, not an OT quotation

Acts 21 — Paul’s Vow and Arrest

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 21:23-26Cultural sensitivity; the Nazirite vowPaul; four men under a vowEchoes Numbers 6:1-21 (Nazirite vow regulations)ಹರಕೆ risk already flagged High in semantic analysis; must be glossed as OT ritual consecration for cultural sensitivity, not a transactional votive bargain
Acts 21:10-11Prophecy; prophetic sign-actAgabusTypological parallel to OT prophetic sign-acts: Isaiah 20:2-4, Jeremiah 13:1-11, Ezekiel 4:1-3Reinforces legitimate prophecy category, distinct from ch.16’s Python-spirit divination

Acts 22 — Paul’s Defense: Conversion Retold

Reviewed — no new OT quotations beyond those already tracked at Acts 9. Acts 22:14 (“the God of our fathers appointed you”) echoes the patriarchal covenant-formula pattern from Exodus 3:15-16 (see Acts 3:13). Acts 22:20’s reference to “the blood of your witness Stephen” completes the μάρτυς semantic arc tracked since Acts 1:8/2:32/7:54-60 — flag for the cross-chapter witness/martyr doctrinal note.

Acts 23 — The Sanhedrin and Roman Custody

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 23:5Respect for authority; scriptural self-correctionPaulDirect quotation: Exodus 22:28 (“you shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people”)Low risk; supports the “government/authority” flagged-category from the Romans baseline’s escalation rules (parallel to Romans 13:1-7)
Acts 23:6-8Resurrection; Pharisee/Sadducee disputePaul; Pharisees; SadduceesConceptually parallel to Romans 6:5, 8:11Both parties (unlike reincarnation frameworks) agree resurrection means one bodily return from death; they dispute only whether it occurs

Acts 24 — Before Felix

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 24:14-15Resurrection of the just and unjust; hope in the Law and ProphetsPaulEchoes Daniel 12:2 (“many… shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt”)Directly parallels Romans 2:6-11; final, universal, once-for-all bodily resurrection to judgment, never a cycle
Acts 24:25Righteousness, self-control, coming judgmentPaul; FelixConceptually parallel to Romans 2:1-16ನೀತಿವಂತಿಕೆ Critical-tier rendering required

Acts 25 — Appeal to Caesar

Reviewed — no new OT quotations or theologically load-bearing new terms. Continues persecution/bold-witness and Roman-legal-process narrative threads already established.

Acts 26:6-7Promise to the fathers; hope of IsraelPaulEchoes the patriarchal covenant promises (Genesis 12:1-3, 2 Samuel 7:12-16)Ties Paul’s own hope to the same Abrahamic/Davidic covenant threads already tracked at Acts 3:25, 13:22-23
Acts 26:18Conversion; light/darkness; Satan’s authority endedChrist (commissioning Paul)Echoes Isaiah 42:6-7 (“open the eyes that are blind, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon… a light for the nations”)Direct link to Isaiah 49:6 (quoted Acts 13:47) — same Servant-Song complex
Acts 26:22-23Fulfillment of prophecy; resurrection; light to Jews and GentilesPaulGeneral reference to “what the prophets and Moses said would happen,” echoing Isaiah 53 and Isaiah 49:6Summarizing statement; ties together the whole book’s OT argument

Acts 27 — Voyage and Shipwreck

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 27:21-26Providence; angelic reassurance; deliverance through (not from) the stormPaul; the angel; the ship’s companyTypological contrast with Jonah 1:4-16 (Jonah flees, storm calms only when he is thrown overboard; Paul is faithful, and all are saved together through the storm because of him)Positive typological contrast — Paul as an obedient counter-Jonah; reinforces ದೇವರ ಪರಿಪಾಲನೆ (providence), not fatalism

Acts 28 — Rome; Israel’s Mixed Reception

PassageThemeCharacter(s)OT/NT ConnectionSensitivity
Acts 28:25-27Fulfillment of prophecy; hardening; Gospel to GentilesPaul; Roman Jewish leadersDirect quotation: Isaiah 6:9-10This exact text is quoted independently in Romans 11:8 (paraphrased “a spirit of stupor”) and in all four Gospels (Matthew 13:14-15, Mark 4:12, Luke 8:10, John 12:40) — the most cross-referenced hardening text in the NT. MANDATORY cross-document consistency check with any Romans 11 material
Acts 28:28Great Commission Fulfilled; Gentile inclusionPaulBookends Acts 1:8’s programmatic statement — “this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles”Structural closure of the whole book’s mission arc; reuse ಅನ್ಯಜನಾಂಗದವರು (Gentiles, Medium, REUSE Romans TM)

PART C — Messianic References Summary

Reference TypeActs PassagesOT SourceNote

Prophet like Moses3:22-23; 7:37Deuteronomy 18:15, 18-19Christ as covenant mediator/lawgiver-fulfillment; render identically at both occurrences
Rejected cornerstone4:11Psalm 118:22Vindication-through-rejection pattern
Suffering Servant8:32-33Isaiah 53:7-8The only fully-quoted Servant-Song text in Acts; foundational for atonement teaching
Light to the nations13:47; 26:18, 23Isaiah 49:6; Isaiah 42:6-7Grounds the Great Commission Fulfilled doctrine unit in explicit OT Servant-Song prophecy
Opposed Anointed One4:25-26Psalm 2:1-2Nations/rulers conspiring against God’s Messiah, fulfilled in the crucifixion (4:27-28)

PART D — Typological Patterns

Type (OT figure/event)Antitype (Acts referent)PassagesTeaching Note
Joseph — rejected by brothers, exalted, saves many including former enemiesChrist — rejected by his own people, exalted, saves Jew and Gentile alikeActs 7:9-16 (Stephen’s speech)Joseph typology is a safe, widely-resonant bridge for teaching rejection-then-exaltation without invoking avatar/incarnation vocabulary directly
Moses — deliverer, mediator, lawgiver, forerunner-prophetChrist — greater Prophet, Deliverer, Mediator of the new covenantActs 3:22-23; 7:17-44Ties directly into “Christ as the Prophet like Moses” messianic category
Sinai theophany (fire, sound, covenant-giving)Pentecost (fire, sound, Spirit-given new covenant)Acts 2:1-4; Exodus 19:16-19Central typological key to the core passage; teach explicitly
Babel’s confusion of tongues (judgment, scattering)Pentecost’s gift of tongues (grace, gathering/understanding)Acts 2:5-11; Genesis 11:1-9Deliberate narrative reversal; strong teaching point for Kannada learners on Pentecost as reversal of judgment, not merely a miracle of speech
Jonah — disobedient prophet, storm calms only after his expulsionPaul — obedient apostle, storm endured together, all delivered because of his faithful presenceActs 27:1-44; Jonah 1Positive contrast typology; reinforces obedient bold witness amid danger
Tabernacle/Temple as localized dwellingThe Spirit-indwelt believer/church; God who does not dwell in houses made with handsActs 7:44-50; 17:24-25Foundational for teaching against locating God’s presence exclusively in a building or image, while remaining pastorally careful in a murti-worship context

PART E — Parallels to the Romans Language Package

Acts PassageRomans ParallelShared DoctrineRendering-Consistency Rule
Acts 2:21, 2:17-21 (Joel 2:32 quotation)Romans 10:13 (same Joel 2:32 quotation)Salvation; universal callMANDATORY: render Joel 2:32’s “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” with byte-for-byte identical Kannada wording in both curricula’s delivered lesson text
Acts 4:12Romans 10:9-13Exclusivity of salvation in ChristMust retain full, unqualified exclusivity in both; no comparative softening (“a name among names”)
Acts 13:38-39Romans 3:21-31; Romans 4:1-25 (esp. Genesis 15:6 citation at Romans 4:3)Justification apart from the LawMANDATORY identical use of ನೀತಿವಂತರೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸುವುದು (justification) and ನಿಯಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ (law); never ಧರ್ಮ in either curriculum
Acts 13:33Romans 1:4Sonship/deity of Christ declared via resurrectionBoth must avoid adoptionist reading; “declared/begotten” language is public disclosure of an eternal identity, not promotion from a lesser status
Acts 15:16-18 (Amos 9:11-12)Romans 11:25-26 (partial hardening, fullness of Gentiles, “all Israel will be saved”)Unity of Jews and Gentiles; Israel’s futureTeach as a matched pair; both texts resolve the Jew/Gentile question with the same Davidic-restoration logic
Acts 10:34-35Romans 2:11Impartiality of GodIdentical Kannada phrasing recommended: ದೇವರು ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತ ಮಾಡುವವನಲ್ಲ
Acts 14:15-17Romans 1:19-20General revelation; creation testifies to GodBoth must preserve the “plain, without excuse” force of general revelation without overstating natural theology’s sufficiency for salvation
Acts 16:30-31Romans 10:9Personal salvation confession/faith formulaMANDATORY verbatim-consistent rendering, per baseline’s own principle for high-use pastoral verses
Acts 17:28(Structural parallel to the Romans baseline’s Critical-tier Aikya caution on ಐಕ್ಯ/ಪರಶಿವ under “salvation” and “god”)Creaturely dependence vs. ontological mergerMANDATORY theologian review in both curricula; never render as identity-dissolution
Acts 28:26-27 (Isaiah 6:9-10)Romans 11:8 (same OT text, paraphrased)Israel’s partial hardeningCross-check both renderings for consistency of the underlying Isaiah citation even though the NT wording differs slightly between the two quotations
Acts 7:42-43 (Amos 5:25-27, idolatry)Romans 1:23, 25 (exchange of God’s glory for images)Idolatry as false worshipConsistent ಮಹಿಮೆ (glory) and ವಿಗ್ರಹಾರಾಧನೆ (idolatry) usage across both curricula
Acts 9:15; 22:14 (chosen instrument/appointed)Romans 9:11-13; 8:28-30Election / effectual callingReuse ದೇವರ ಆಯ್ಕೆ (REUSE Romans TM, High) consistently

PART F — Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared OT Quotations (Governing Rule Set)

  1. Joel 2:32 / Acts 2:21 / Romans 10:13 — identical Kannada wording required across both curricula; highest-priority consistency item in this document.
  2. Psalm 16:10 / Acts 2:27, 2:31 / Acts 13:35 — identical Kannada wording required at all three internal Acts occurrences.
  3. Deuteronomy 18:15 / Acts 3:22 / Acts 7:37 — identical Kannada wording required at both occurrences.
  4. Psalm 2:7 / Acts 4:25-26 (v.1-2 quoted) / Acts 13:33 (v.7 quoted) — same psalm, different verses; cite psalm number consistently, do not render as unrelated texts.
  5. Isaiah 66:1-2 / Acts 7:49-50 and Acts 17:24-25 (echo, not direct re-quotation) — render χειροποίητος (ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ) identically in both passages.
  6. Isaiah 6:9-10 / Acts 28:26-27 / Romans 11:8 — cross-check wording; note Romans paraphrases rather than quotes directly, but the underlying doctrinal point (partial hardening) must be taught as the same reality.
  7. Amos 9:11-12 / Acts 15:16-18 and Romans 11:25-26 — teach as a matched theological pair even though Amos is quoted directly only in Acts.
  8. Genesis 12:3 / 22:18 / Acts 3:25 and Romans 4:13, 16-17 — Abrahamic covenant “blessing to all nations” language must be rendered so Kannada readers can trace the same promise from Genesis through both Acts and Romans.
  9. Any verse listed in 08_core_glossary.md Section 3 (“Verses Flagged for Mandatory Cross-Document Consistency”) takes priority over all other stylistic considerations in Phase 2 translation.

This document, together with 07_semantic_analysis.md and 08_core_glossary.md, completes the Phase 1 Step 3 cross-reference deliverable. Proceed to 10_biblical_theme_map.md for the full thematic architecture of Acts.
