Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 2 Chronicles (English → Hindi)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, drawn from all 36 chapters of 2 Chronicles. Terms already established in the baseline Romans/Galatians translation_memory.json are marked [REUSED] and their recorded Hindi rendering is carried over exactly, without modification. New terms required by this curriculum are marked [NEW] and are proposed here for addition to translation memory at the appropriate risk tier, per the Phase 2 instructions in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.
Risk tiers follow the baseline definitions: Critical (theologian review every occurrence), High (theologian review), Medium (native speaker review), Low (automated review).
1. Temple Worship and God’s Presence
| Term | Hebrew | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Hindi Rendering | Risk | Chapters | Status |

Cross-doctrinal note: मन्दिर/temple terminology intersects directly with the baseline’s explicit prohibition of मंदिर for ekklesia/church (Romans/Galatians). That prohibition targets the New Testament assembly of believers, a different referent; the physical Israelite Temple in Jerusalem is architecturally and functionally an actual temple, so मन्दिर is contextually correct here — but every occurrence still requires a framing note that this is the exclusive, non-idolatrous dwelling of the one true God, not one shrine among many, and that no image (mūrti) of God was ever housed within it (contra the golden calves it implicitly polemicizes against throughout, e.g., ch.11,13).

8. Special Note on יהוה (YHWH) — Required New Critical-Tier Term
The baseline Romans/Galatians translation_memory.json contains an entry for lord (κύριος → प्रभु, Critical) used of Christ’s NT Lordship confession, but has no entry for the OT tetragrammaton, since Romans and Galatians do not directly render YHWH. 2 Chronicles requires this term on nearly every page.
| Term | Hebrew | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Hindi Rendering | Risk | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YHWH (the LORD, the divine Name) | יהוה | YHWH (traditionally vocalized “Adonai” in reading) | God’s personal, revealed covenant Name | The one true God’s proper, unique, unrepeatable Name — distinct from generic אֱלֹהִים/Elohim (“God”) | the LORD, YHWH, Yahweh, Jehovah | यहोवा | Critical | Established BSI OV/NV rendering for the tetragrammaton throughout the Hindi Old Testament tradition. MUST be kept distinct from प्रभु (reserved for κύριος/Christ’s NT Lordship per baseline) and from परमेश्वर (used for the generic divine title Elohim). Never use a Hindu deity proper name. Every occurrence in kingship-evaluation formulas (“did evil/right in the eyes of the LORD”) and the core passage (7:11-22) carries this term; consistency across all 36 chapters is mandatory. |
This glossary, together with 07_semantic_analysis.md, provides full-book coverage of 2 Chronicles 1–36 with the core passage (7:11-22) receiving verse-by-verse treatment as mandated. All entries are proposed for incorporation into an updated translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json in subsequent Phase 1 steps, without contradicting any existing baseline entry.
Critical Risk Terms
God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर
Transliteration: Parameśvara
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वर, भगवान
Original: אֱלֹהִים
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. परमेश्वर (Supreme Lord) is the BSI OV standard. भगवान has broad Hindu deity usage — avoid. In 2 Chronicles renders אֱלֹהִים (Elohim), the generic divine title, and must be kept lexically distinguishable from यहोवा (the personal covenant Name, see yhwh entry) in passages where the text deliberately alternates the two (e.g., 6:18, 7:22).
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: Prabhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: स्वामी, ईश्वर
Inherited from Romans package. Reserved exclusively for New Testament κύριος / Christ’s Lordship confession. Must NEVER be used to render יהוה (YHWH) in 2 Chronicles — that is यहोवा’s exclusive role (see yhwh entry). This lexical separation is one of the highest-priority consistency checks across the whole curriculum.
Messiah
Approved rendering: मसीह
Transliteration: Masīha
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: अभिषिक्त व्यक्ति, देव-दूत
Inherited from Romans package. Relevant to 2 Chronicles’ anoint (מָשַׁח) entries (22:11; 23:11) — royal anointing in this book is the historical background of the title ‘Anointed One’ fulfilled in Christ; consistency here reinforces rather than dilutes that later connection.
Yhwh
Approved rendering: यहोवा
Transliteration: Yahovā / YHWH
Doctrine: The Name of YHWH and Divine Identity
Rejected alternatives: प्रभु, ईश्वर, भगवान, कृष्ण/शिव/कोई भी हिन्दू देवता का नाम
Original: יהוה
Category: God
Established BSI OV/NV rendering of the tetragrammaton, appearing on nearly every page of 2 Chronicles, most densely in royal-evaluation formulas and the core passage (7:11-22). Must be kept lexically distinct from प्रभु (reserved for NT Lordship of Christ) and from परमेश्वर (generic Elohim title) — never collapse the deliberate YHWH/Elohim alternation (e.g., 6:18, 7:22) into one flattened Hindi word. Never use a Hindu deity’s proper name.
Temple House Of The Lord
Approved rendering: यहोवा का भवन / मन्दिर
Transliteration: Yahovā kā bhavana / mandira
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence
Rejected alternatives: मन्दिर (alone, without exclusivity framing)
Original: בֵּית־יְהוָה
Category: Temple Worship
मन्दिर collides with the Hindu multi-deity, image-housing temple concept. यहोवा का भवन is preferred in doctrinally sensitive passages; मन्दिर may be used descriptively only once an exclusivity + no-image framing note is established in the lesson. Every occurrence (2:1,4; 5-8; 23-24; 26; 28-29; 34; 36) requires this framing.
Called By My Name
Approved rendering: मेरे लोग जो मेरे नाम से बुलाए जाते हैं
Transliteration: mere loga jo mere nāma se bulāe jāte haiṃ
Doctrine: Conditional Blessing and National Repentance
Rejected alternatives: मेरे लोग (bare, dropping the Name-ownership clause)
Original: עַמִּי אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא־שְׁמִי עֲלֵיהֶם
Category: Repentance
עַמִּי אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא־שְׁמִי עֲלֵיהֶם, 7:14. A God-conferred covenant identity, not a self-chosen or birth-based/caste-based religious identity. Connect explicitly to the baseline बुलाए हुए/बुलाहट (calling) doctrine family so learners recognize continuity with the NT sovereign-call theology.
Humble Oneself
Approved rendering: अपने आपको दीन करना
Transliteration: apane āpako dīna karanā
Doctrine: Conditional Blessing and National Repentance
Rejected alternatives: तपस्या, आत्म-दमन, आत्म-मर्दन
Original: כָּנַע
Category: Repentance
כָּנַע (niphal), the book’s pivotal repentance-response verb (7:14; 12:6-7,12; 28:19; 30:11; 32:26; 33:12,19,23; 34:27; 36:12). Voluntary or imposed covenant self-abasement before a personal God who responds with mercy — NEVER ascetic self-mortification generating merit or spiritual power. Governs the theological logic of the entire book; drift here corrupts the interpretive key applied to every reform/judgment narrative, not just one verse.
Turn Return
Approved rendering: मन फिराव (doctrinal, repentance direction) / फिरना, लौटना, मुड़ जाना (literal, apostasy direction)
Transliteration: mana phirāva / phiranā, lauṭanā, muḍa jānā
Doctrine: Conditional Blessing and National Repentance
Rejected alternatives: पश्चाताप (mere remorse)
Original: שׁוּב
Category: Repentance
שׁוּב, used bidirectionally: toward God (7:14; 30:6,9 — render मन फिराव, doctrinally aligned with the baseline repentance entry) and away from God (7:19; 36:13 — render फिरना/मुड़ जाना). Hindi has no single root doing both jobs; every occurrence must carry an explicit direction cue or the book’s two-directional covenant theology collapses into ambiguity exactly at its thesis verse.
Consecrate Sanctify
Approved rendering: पवित्र करना / पवित्रीकरण
Transliteration: pavitra karanā / pavitrikaraṇa
Doctrine: Reform under Hezekiah
Original: קָדַשׁ
Category: Reform
קָדַשׁ, applied to the Temple’s original dedication (7:16) and Hezekiah’s reconsecration after cleansing (29:5,15-19). The Temple is set apart for God’s exclusive worship, not one consecrated site among many shrines — Critical tier inherited from the baseline sanctification doctrine’s collision risk with Hindu ritual-purification concepts.
Exile Captivity
Approved rendering: बंधुआई
Transliteration: bandhuāī
Doctrine: The Exile as Covenant Consequence
Original: גָּלוּת / שְׁבִי
Category: Exile
גָּלוּת / שְׁבִי, 36:17-20. The book’s climactic, most theologically loaded event. Must carry two simultaneous guardrails at every occurrence: (i) personal-agency framing (यहोवा ने…किया, executing his own previously stated warnings, 7:20) — never impersonal karmic downfall; and (ii) non-finality framing — never final or irrevocable, since the same chapter pivots immediately to restoration hope (36:22-23).
Abandoned The Lord
Approved rendering: उन्होंने यहोवा को त्याग दिया
Transliteration: unhoṃne Yahovā ko tyāga diyā
Doctrine: The Exile as Covenant Consequence
Rejected alternatives: वे परंपरा से भटक गए (they drifted from tradition — forbidden softening), वे रास्ता भूल गए (they lost their way — forbidden softening)
Original: עָזְבוּ אֶת־יְהוָה
Category: Exile
עָזְבוּ אֶת־יְהוָה, 7:22 and 36:15-16. The book’s own built-in theodicy — its explicit hermeneutical key for the exile. Must carry full covenant-desertion force identical to the forsake entry at both anchor verses; softening undermines the entire Exile doctrine at its most explicit textual anchor.
High Risk Terms
Covenant
Approved rendering: वाचा
Transliteration: vācā
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: अनुबंध, समझौता
Original: בְּרִית
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Governs the ark’s covenant identity (5:2,7), the Davidic throne-promise (7:18), and public covenant-renewal ceremonies (15:12-15; 23:1,3,16). Consistency across all these scenes is required.
Holy
Approved rendering: पवित्र
Transliteration: pavitra
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: शुद्ध, निर्मल
Inherited from Romans package. Root term underlying consecrate_sanctify (קָדַשׁ) below; must be kept distinct from शुद्ध करना (cleanse), which addresses removal of defilement rather than exclusive set-apartness.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: पवित्रीकरण
Transliteration: pavitrikaraṇa
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: सफाई, शुद्धिकरण
Inherited from Romans package. Applies to the Temple’s consecration process (7:16; 29:5,15-19) as an extension of the baseline’s sanctification doctrine to sacred space, not only to persons.
Glory
Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mahimā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: देव-ज्योति, प्रकाश
Original: כָּבוֹד
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. In 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 and 7:1-3 names the specific cloud-borne theophanic glory filling the Temple. Must be kept distinct from Solomon’s descriptive royal splendour/wealth (ch. 9), which should use वैभव/प्रतिष्ठा instead, so the technical divine-glory sense is not diluted.
Sin
Approved rendering: पाप
Transliteration: pāpa
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: अधर्म, अशुद्धता
Original: חַטָּאת
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Solomon’s dedication prayer states plainly that ‘there is no one who does not sin’ (6:36); पाप must retain moral transgression before a personal God, resisting drift toward a merit/demerit ledger.
Idolatry
Approved rendering: मूर्तिपूजा
Transliteration: mūrtipūjā
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Original: עֲבוֹדָה זָרָה / פֶּסֶל
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Recurs across nearly every unfaithful-king narrative (11:15; 23:17; 24:18; 25:14-15; 28:2-4; 33:1-9; 34:3-7); handle pastorally but do not soften the biblical condemnation.
Wrath Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का क्रोध
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā krodha
Doctrine: Judgment
Rejected alternatives: बदला
Original: חֵמָה / אַף
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Recurs at 12:7,12; 19:2,10; 24:18; 28:9,11,13; 29:8,10; 32:25-26; 34:21,25; 36:16. Always God’s settled, righteous judgment against covenant infidelity, repeatedly shown as avertable through the humbling/seeking/turning pattern of 7:14 — never personal revenge or capricious anger.
Remnant
Approved rendering: बचे हुए लोग
Transliteration: bace hue loga
Doctrine: Election
Original: שְׁאֵרִית
Category: Restoration
Inherited from Romans package. Applies to the northern-tribe worshippers included in Hezekiah’s Passover (30:6) and the exiles addressed by Cyrus’s decree (36:20); the remnant is preserved and restored by grace, not by its own survival-worthiness.
Election
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का चुनाव
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā cunāva
Doctrine: Divine Election of Place and People
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, नियति, किस्मत
Inherited from Romans package. Applies to God’s sovereign choice of the Temple site, Jerusalem, and David’s line (6:5-6; 7:12,16) — personal and purposive, never karma-determined fate or geomantically auspicious (vastu-shastra-style) site-selection.
Law
Approved rendering: व्यवस्था
Transliteration: vyavasthā
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, शरीयत, नियम
Original: תּוֹרָה
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER धर्म. Underlies both general covenant-law references throughout the book and the book_of_the_law entry (34:14-15) specifically.
Worship
Approved rendering: आराधना
Transliteration: ārādhanā
Doctrine: Worship
Rejected alternatives: पूजा
Original: עָבַד / הִשְׁתַּחֲוָה
Category: Reform
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER पूजा. Must be preserved consistently across both legitimate-worship narratives (chs. 5-7, 29-30) and the idolatry polemic against ‘worship’ of other gods (7:19; 33:3).
Name Theology
Approved rendering: नाम
Transliteration: nāma
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence
Original: שֵׁם
Category: Temple Worship
God’s own revealed character and covenant presence localized at the Temple (‘a house for my Name,’ 2:1,4; 6:5-6; 7:16). Bare नाम under-translates; always co-occur with a possessive/purpose clause rather than standing as a floating noun. Not a mantra or a deity’s ritually-invoked secret name.
Dwelling Presence
Approved rendering: निवास करना
Transliteration: nivāsa karanā
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence
Original: שָׁכַן
Category: Temple Worship
שָׁכַן (shakan), 6:18. Must convey personal, covenantal nearness, never pantheistic immanence nor a deity confined within an idol. Always pair with Solomon’s transcendence caveat (‘heaven of heavens cannot contain you’) in the same teaching unit.
Ark Of The Covenant
Approved rendering: वाचा का सन्दूक
Transliteration: vācā kā sandūka
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence
Original: אֲרוֹן הַבְּרִית
Category: Covenant
2 Chronicles 5. A covenant-guarantee object, not an idol-image; nothing is depicted on it as a deity-form (contra Hindu murti). Preserve this distinction in accompanying teacher/translator notes.
Holy Of Holies
Approved rendering: परम पवित्र स्थान
Transliteration: parama pavitra sthāna
Doctrine: Graded Holiness and the Holiness of God
Original: קֹדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים
Category: Temple Worship
2 Chronicles 3:8-10. Graded sanctuary access (outer court → holy place → most holy place) must not be read as caste-graded ritual-purity access restrictions found in some Hindu temple practice; access here is holiness-based and mediation-based, not birth-based.
Sacrifice Burnt Offering
Approved rendering: बलिदान / होमबलि
Transliteration: balidāna / homabali
Doctrine: Legitimate Sacrifice and the God-Ordained Altar
Original: זֶבַח / עֹלָה
Category: Temple Worship
זֶבַח / עֹלָה. Must be kept distinct from Vedic yajna conceptions of feeding/appeasing the gods (7:1’s fire signifies acceptance, not divine need) AND from child_sacrifice vocabulary (28:3; 33:6) — the two offering-word families must never bleed into one another.
House Of Sacrifice
Approved rendering: बलिदान का भवन
Transliteration: balidāna kā bhavana
Doctrine: Legitimate Sacrifice and the God-Ordained Altar
Original: בֵּית זֶבַח
Category: Temple Worship
בֵּית זֶבַח, 7:12. God’s own naming of the Temple’s central function in direct first-person divine speech; retain the divine-speech frame (‘I have chosen this… as a house of sacrifice’), not a flattened architectural label.
Seek
Approved rendering: खोजना
Transliteration: khojanā
Doctrine: Conditional Blessing and National Repentance
Original: דָּרַשׁ / בָּקַשׁ
Category: Repentance
דָּרַשׁ / בָּקַשׁ. Must be read as seeking the person of God himself, never a ritual technique, oracle, or astrological/auspicious-timing consultation. Object must always be explicit and personal (7:14; 14:4,7; 15:2,4,12-13; 17:4; 20:4; 22:9; 30:19; 31:21; 34:3).
Forgive
Approved rendering: क्षमा करना (future: क्षमा करूँगा)
Transliteration: kṣamā karanā
Doctrine: The Mercy and Forgiveness of God
Original: סָלַח
Category: Repentance
סָלַח, repeated seven times in Solomon’s dedication prayer (ch.6) and again at 7:14. Relational, judicial covenant pardon by the wronged sovereign God — never automatic karmic cancellation of demerit, never an achievement earned by the sinner’s own ritual expiation. Keep grammatically God-as-subject.
Heal The Land
Approved rendering: चंगा करना (future: चंगा करूँगा)
Transliteration: caṅgā karanā
Doctrine: Conditional Blessing and National Repentance
Original: רָפָא
Category: Repentance
רָפָא, 7:14. Corporate covenant-restoration of agricultural fertility, peace, and blessing to the land itself — not an individual health-and-wealth guarantee, and not karmic balancing of collective national merit. Keep भूमि/देश as grammatical object.
Reciprocal Presence Formula
Approved rendering: यहोवा तुम्हारे साथ रहेगा जब तक तुम उसके साथ रहोगे
Transliteration: Yahovā tumhāre sātha rahegā jaba taka tuma usake sātha rahoge
Doctrine: The Reciprocal Presence of God
Original: יְהוָה עִמָּכֶם בִּהְיוֹתְכֶם עִמּוֹ
Category: Repentance
Azariah’s oracle, 15:2,4. Must preserve strict covenant reciprocity as a personal relationship a personal God freely maintains or withdraws, never an impersonal cause-effect karmic mechanism.
Eyes Of The Lord
Approved rendering: यहोवा की आँखें सारी पृथ्वी पर फिरती हैं
Transliteration: Yahovā kī āṃkheṃ sārī pṛthvī para phiratī haiṃ
Doctrine: Providence and God’s Sovereignty over the Nations
Original: עֵינֵי יְהוָה מְשֹׁטְטוֹת בְּכָל־הָאָרֶץ
Category: God
16:9. A relational Watcher who personally responds to faith, not an impersonal, mechanical karma-monitoring system. Structurally echoes 7:15’s ‘my eyes and my heart will be there’ — see eyes_and_heart_perpetually_there entry.
Unfaithfulness Trespass
Approved rendering: विश्वासघात करना
Transliteration: viśvāsaghāta karanā
Doctrine: Faithful and Unfaithful Kings
Original: מַעַל
Category: Sin
מַעַל, boundary-violation against God’s ordained sacred order (Uzziah’s priestly usurpation 26:16,18; the whole nation 36:14). Must retain the specific sense of sacrilege against divinely instituted structures, not a generic ethical fault or ordinary interpersonal betrayal.
Anoint
Approved rendering: अभिषेक करना
Transliteration: abhiṣeka karanā
Doctrine: Royal Anointing and Divinely Established Kingship
Original: מָשַׁח
Category: Kingship
מָשַׁח, 22:11; 23:11. God’s own act of setting a person apart for office, never a merit-based or astrologically-timed (muhurta) coronation ritual. Ties forward to the baseline’s Critical Messiah/Anointed One vocabulary — consistency here reinforces that later connection.
Wisdom
Approved rendering: बुद्धि
Transliteration: buddhi
Doctrine: Wisdom as a Divine Gift for Governance
Original: חָכְמָה
Category: Kingship
חָכְמָה, ch.1; ch.9. बुद्धि carries strong Vedantic/Sankhya connotations as an inner faculty on the path to liberating self-realization (jñāna). Must be anchored every occurrence as a specific, God-given practical gift for just governance and worship — never a path to spiritual liberation or enlightened consciousness.
Kingdom Throne Davidic
Approved rendering: राज्य / सिंहासन
Transliteration: rājya / siṃhāsana
Doctrine: The Davidic Covenant and Dynastic Promise
Original: מַמְלָכָה / כִּסֵּא
Category: Covenant
מַמְלָכָה / כִּסֵּא, established under divine covenant promise (7:18) and threatened but preserved through Athaliah’s usurpation (22-23) and exile (36). Must be tethered to वाचा so the throne’s interruption reads as suspended, not annulled.
Child Sacrifice
Approved rendering: आग में से निकालना (बच्चों की बलि)
Transliteration: āga meṃ se nikālanā (baccoṃ kī bali)
Doctrine: Idolatry and Religious Syncretism
Rejected alternatives: सामान्य बलिदान वाली भाषा (generic sacrifice-vocabulary euphemism)
Original: הֶעֱבִיר בָּאֵשׁ
Category: Sin
הֶעֱבִיר בָּאֵשׁ, Ahaz (28:3) and Manasseh (33:6). Must be named plainly, un-euphemized, and lexically separated from sacrifice_burnt_offering vocabulary — the horror such legitimate offerings must never be confused with.
Cleanse
Approved rendering: शुद्ध करना
Transliteration: śuddha karanā
Doctrine: Reform under Hezekiah
Original: טָהֵר
Category: Reform
טָהֵר, 29:15-19. Must be distinguished from the Hindu shuddhikaran ritual-purity economy tied to caste/pollution; this restores a specific covenant sanctuary from a specific historical defilement (Ahaz’s idolatry), a one-time historical corrective, never an ongoing purity-maintenance system.
Book Of The Law
Approved rendering: व्यवस्था की पुस्तक
Transliteration: vyavasthā kī pustaka
Doctrine: Reform under Josiah
Original: סֵפֶר הַתּוֹרָה
Category: Reform
סֵפֶר הַתּוֹרָה, 34:14-15,30. Reuses व्यवस्था exactly, never धर्म. The rediscovery-and-response narrative (34:19-33) models the ideal response to God’s written word — this renews covenant loyalty, it does not inaugurate a new religious system.
Pluck Up Uproot
Approved rendering: उखाड़ देना
Transliteration: ukhāḍa denā
Doctrine: The Exile as Covenant Consequence
Original: נָתַשׁ
Category: Exile
נָתַשׁ, 7:20, fulfilled at 36. Agricultural uprooting metaphor for exile; must never be taught apart from its counterpart healing promise (7:14) or replanting fulfillment (36:22-23).
Forsake
Approved rendering: त्याग देना / छोड़ देना
Transliteration: tyāga denā / choḍa denā
Doctrine: Faithful and Unfaithful Kings
Original: עָזַב
Category: Sin
עָזַב, the operative apostasy-verb across every unfaithful-king narrative (7:19,22; 12:1,5; 13:11; 15:2; 21:10; 24:18,20,24; 28:6; 29:6; 34:25; 36:14-16). Must retain full covenant-desertion force across all recurrences so the book’s repeated self-diagnosis reads as one consistent theological thread.
Stirred Spirit Of Cyrus
Approved rendering: यहोवा ने कुस्रू के मन को उभारा
Transliteration: Yahovā ne Kusrū ke mana ko ubhārā
Doctrine: Providence and God’s Sovereignty over the Nations
Original: וַיהוָה הֵעִיר אֶת־רוּחַ כֹּרֶשׁ
Category: God
וַיהוָה הֵעִיר אֶת־רוּחַ כֹּרֶשׁ, 36:22. Reuses the baseline providence doctrine (परमेश्वर का विधान). Personal, purposive divine governance even over a non-covenant foreign ruler’s free decisions — never fatalistic destiny, and no implication that Cyrus becomes a YHWH-worshipper by this act alone.
Curse
Approved rendering: श्राप / श्रापित
Transliteration: śrāpa / śrāpita
Doctrine: Covenant Curse Enacted through the Created Order
Original: אָלָה / קְלָלָה
Category: Covenant
אָלָה / קְלָלָה. Not present as a standalone key in the Romans/Galatians baseline TM (only within anathema/atonement_curse_bearing entries); formalized here as its own entry for 2 Chronicles’ covenant-curse sanctions (drought, locust, plague, exile, 7:13,19-22; 34:24; 36:20-21). Must be read as a personal, righteous God’s own judicial sanction operating through the created order, never a liftable folk-curse reversible by counter-ritual.
Covenant Curse Triad
Approved rendering: आकाश को बन्द करना (टिड्डी, महामारी)
Transliteration: ākāśa ko banda karanā (ṭiḍḍī, mahāmārī)
Doctrine: Covenant Curse Enacted through the Created Order
עָצַר שָׁמַיִם / אַרְבֶּה / דֶּבֶר, 7:13. The three coordinated covenant-curse instruments (withheld rain, locust, pestilence) function as a single rhetorical unit directly answered by 7:14’s remedy. Translator note required stating these name literal historical judgment-mechanisms (Leviticus 26/Deuteronomy 28 background), not a generic ‘bad things happen’ summary.
High Places
Approved rendering: ऊँचे स्थान
Transliteration: ūṃce sthāna
Doctrine: Idolatry and Religious Syncretism
בָּמָה (bamah), the illegitimate worship sites repeatedly condemned (14:3,5; 33:3; 34:3-7) in explicit contrast to the single legitimate altar (see altar entry). The polemic depends on there being only one legitimate site — the opposite of a multi-shrine religious landscape.
Medium Risk Terms
David
Approved rendering: दाऊद
Transliteration: Dāūda
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Original: דָּוִד
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Proper name; BSI OV established form. Central figure across the book’s dynastic-promise narrative (7:17-18; 13:5,8; 21:7; 23:3; 36:1).
Israel
Approved rendering: इस्राएल
Transliteration: Isrāela
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Original: יִשְׂרָאֵל
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. In 2 Chronicles denotes both the united and the divided-kingdom northern tribes; theological usage should remain unambiguous in context per contemporary political sensitivity around this proper name.
Mercy
Approved rendering: दया
Transliteration: dayā
Doctrine: Mercy of God
Original: חֶסֶד / רַחֲמִים
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Invoked in Solomon’s dedication prayer and the forgiveness formula (6:21-39; 7:14; 30:9); kept distinct from अनुग्रह (grace) per the baseline’s established distinction.
Sorcery
Approved rendering: जादू-टोना
Transliteration: jādū-ṭonā
Doctrine: Idolatry and Religious Syncretism
Original: אוֹב וְיִדְּעֹנִי / כֶּשֶׁף
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package (originally the Galatians φαρμακεία entry). Applies to Manasseh’s revival of mediums, necromancers, and occult divination practice (33:6). See also the new mediums_and_necromancers entry below for the specific occult-practice pairing.
Cherubim
Approved rendering: करूब
Transliteration: karūb
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence
Original: כְּרוּבִים
Category: Temple Worship
2 Chronicles 3. Transliterated. Native speaker review needed so readers do not assimilate cherubim to Hindu vahana (a deity’s animal mount/vehicle) iconography.
Veil
Approved rendering: परदा
Transliteration: pardā
Doctrine: Graded Holiness and the Holiness of God
Original: פָּרֹכֶת
Category: Temple Worship
פָּרֹכֶת, 2 Chronicles 3. Standard, low-ambiguity term.
Altar
Approved rendering: वेदी
Transliteration: vedī
Doctrine: Legitimate Sacrifice and the God-Ordained Altar
Original: מִזְבֵּח
Category: Temple Worship
מִזְבֵּח. Must be distinguished from Hindu havan-kund/yajna fire-altars — this is the singular, God-appointed site of covenant sacrifice, directly polemicized against the book’s repeated condemnation of ‘high places’ (14:3,5; 33:3; 34:3-7).
Assembly
Approved rendering: सभा / मण्डली
Transliteration: sabhā / maṇḍalī
Doctrine: Temple Worship and God’s Presence
Original: קָהָל
Category: Temple Worship
קָהָל. The covenant community gathered specifically before YHWH; distinguish from a merely civic gathering.

Transliteration: prārthanā
Doctrine: Prayer and Access to God at the Temple
Original: תְּפִלָּה / פָּלַל
Category: Repentance
תְּפִלָּה / פָּלַל. Distinguish from Hindu puja (ritual offering-worship directed at an image) and from petitioning intermediary saints/ancestors; this is direct petition to the personal covenant God.
Disaster Calamity
Approved rendering: विपत्ति / बुराई
Transliteration: vipatti / burāī
Doctrine: Covenant Curse Enacted through the Created Order
Original: רָעָה
Category: Repentance
רָעָה, 7:22; 20:9; 36:16. The enacted covenant-curse outcome of persistent sin, forming an inclusio with ‘wicked ways’ (7:14).
Did Evil Formula
Approved rendering: यहोवा की दृष्टि में बुराई करना
Transliteration: Yahovā kī dṣṭi meṃ burāī karanā
Doctrine: Faithful and Unfaithful Kings
Original: עָשָׂה הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה
Category: Kingship
עָשָׂה הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה. Formulaic royal-evaluation refrain (21:6; 22:4; 24; 25; 28:1; 33:2,22; 36:5,9,12). Lock the exact phrase; any lexical variation across occurrences weakens its function as a structuring device marking reign transitions.
Trust Rely
Approved rendering: भरोसा रखना
Transliteration: bharosā rakhanā
Doctrine: Military Trust in the LORD
Original: בָּטַח
Category: Kingship
בָּטַח (13:18; 14:11; 16:7-8; 32:10). Military-covenantal reliance on YHWH versus alliances/numbers — must stay lexically distinct from विश्वास (saving faith in Christ, reserved by the baseline exclusively for personal trust in Christ/God for salvation).
Rebellion
Approved rendering: बलवा / विद्रोह
Transliteration: balavā / vidroha
Doctrine: Rebellion against Davidic Rule
Original: פֶּשַׂע
Category: Kingship
פֶּשַׂע, 10:19. Israel’s secession is framed as covenant-political revolt against the Davidic promise-line, a loaded theological verdict, not a neutral description of a political split.
Pride
Approved rendering: घमण्ड / गर्व
Transliteration: ghamaṇḍa / garva
Doctrine: Faithful and Unfaithful Kings
Original: גָּבַהּ / רוּם
Category: Kingship
גָּבַהּ / רוּם, Uzziah’s downfall (26:16) and Hezekiah’s near-downfall (32:25, contrasted with his subsequent humbling 32:26). Reuses the baseline घमण्ड root.
Justice
Approved rendering: न्याय
Transliteration: nyāya
Doctrine: Justice and Impartial Judgment
Original: מִשְׁפָּט
Category: Kingship
מִשְׁפָּט, 19:4-11. Human justice is theologically accountable to God (‘judge not for man but for the LORD,’ v.6); must retain unqualified impartiality, resisting caste- or status-based leniency readings.
Temple Damage Repair
Approved rendering: भवन की टूट-फूट की मरम्मत
Transliteration: bhavana kī ṭūṭa-phūṭa kī marammata
Doctrine: Reform under Hezekiah
Original: בֶּדֶק הַבַּיִת

Rejected alternatives: मुक्ति का भोज, एक सामान्य त्योहार
Original: פֶּסַח
Category: Reform
פֶּסַח, chs. 30, 35. Transliterated with mandatory Exodus-deliverance gloss on first occurrence per lesson; no Hindu festival carries an equivalent covenant-redemptive-history referent.
Tithe
Approved rendering: दशमांश
Transliteration: daśamāṃśa
Doctrine: Reform under Hezekiah
Original: מַעֲשֵׂר
Category: Reform

Doctrine: Reform under Josiah
Original: בְּכָל־לִבּוֹ וּבְכָל־נַפְשׁוֹ
Category: Reform
בְּכָל־לִבּוֹ וּבְכָל־נַפְשׁוֹ, 34:31. Must be read as total covenant loyalty expressed in concrete covenant-obedience actions, not a yogic/meditative absorption formula describing an inward state.
Praise Corporate
Approved rendering: स्तुति
Transliteration: stuti
Doctrine: Corporate Worship through Scripted Praise
Original: הָלַל / תְּהִלָּה
Category: Reform
הָלַל / תְּהִלָּה (5:11-14; 7:6; 20:19-22; 29:25-30). Commanded, scripted, Davidic-Levitical corporate obedience, not individual ecstatic bhakti-kirtan devotionalism, though the two may look functionally similar to an outside observer.
Levite Priest
Approved rendering: लेवीय / याजक
Transliteration: leviya / yājaka
Doctrine: Priestly and Levitical Mediation
Original: לֵוִי / כֹּהֵן
Category: Kingship
לֵוִי / כֹּהֵן (11:13-14; 13:9-10; 17:8; 23; 29-31; 34:9,12-13). Must be distinguished from the hereditary Brahmin priest-caste concept — hereditary within Levi but not a birth-based hierarchy of inherent spiritual worth; the office serves the whole covenant community on God’s terms.
Land Sabbath Fulfilled
Approved rendering: भूमि ने अपने विश्राम के वर्षों को पूरा किया
Transliteration: bhūmi ne apane viśrāma ke varṣoṃ ko pūrā kiyā
Doctrine: The Exile as Covenant Consequence

Doctrine: Covenant Curse Enacted through the Created Order
Rejected alternatives: विश्राम का दिन (paraphrase alone, insufficient)
Original: שַׁבָּת
Category: Covenant
שַׁבָּת, 36:21. Transliterated to preserve the term’s identity as a covenant sign across the whole canon, not merely ‘a day off.‘
Proverb And Byword
Approved rendering: दृष्टान्त और उलाहना
Transliteration: dṣṭānta aura ulāhanā
Doctrine: The Exile as Covenant Consequence
Original: מָשָׁל וְשִׁנִינָה
Category: Exile
מָשָׁל וְשִׁנִינָה, 7:20. Public shame-idiom for national disgrace; route for native speaker review per the honor/shame convention to verify sufficient public-disgrace force.
Restoration
Approved rendering: बहाली
Transliteration: bahālī
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration
Rejected alternatives: चक्रीय पुनर्नवीनीकरण (cyclical yuga-style renewal framing)
Original: (narrative theme; שׁוּב-related)
Category: Restoration
Not present as a standalone key in the Romans/Galatians baseline TM; formalized here for 2 Chronicles, consistent with the baseline’s established restoration-adjacent vocabulary (e.g., remnant, redemption). Must remain grace-grounded, personal, historically anchored covenant restoration (Manasseh 33:12-13; Cyrus 36:22-23), never cyclical cosmic renewal or automatic karmic rebalancing.
Decree
Approved rendering: फरमान / आदेश

תֵּל / שָׁמֵם, 7:21. An idiom of total, visible, public architectural humiliation; no single Hindi word carries both the physical-ruin and public-shock senses, so a two-clause rendering is required rather than a forced single-word equivalent.
