Core Glossary

Core Glossary — Titus (English → Hindi)

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, drawn from the entire book of Titus (chapters 1–3), with the core passage (2:11–3:8) as the theological anchor. Terms already fixed in the baseline Romans/Galatians translation_memory.json are marked [TM: reused] and their recorded Hindi rendering is repeated here unchanged, per the hard rule that established renderings must be reused exactly. Terms new to the Titus curriculum are marked [NEW] and are proposed for addition to the translation memory in Phase 2, with a risk tier assigned using the same Critical/High/Medium/Low methodology as bible_term_registry.json and doctrine_risk_registry.json.

Column key: Term = English gloss label · Greek = original word/transliteration · Hindi = proposed/established rendering · Translit. = Hindi transliteration · Risk = Critical/High/Medium/Low · Doctrine = curriculum doctrine area · Status = TM: reused / NEW · Chapter(s).

TermGreek (translit.)HindiTranslit.DoctrineStatusCh.Notes
Graceχάρις (charis)अनुग्रहanugrahaSalvation by Grace not WorksTM: reused2,3Never कृपा/कर्म-फल/भाग्य/पुण्य.
Salvation / saveσωτηρία / σῴζω (sōtēria/sōzō)उद्धारuddhāraSalvation by Grace not WorksTM: reused2,3Never मुक्ति/मोक्ष.
Savior (title)σωτήρ (sōtēr)उद्धारकर्ताuddhārakartāSalvation by Grace not Works; Deity of ChristNEW1,2,3Applied identically to God the Father (1:3;2:10;3:4) and Jesus Christ (1:4;2:13;3:6) — the Father/Son title-sharing device is a deity-of-Christ argument. Must render identically every occurrence.
Righteousnessδικαιοσύνη (dikaiosynē)धार्मिकताdhārmikatāSalvation by Grace not WorksTM: reused3Never धर्म. Titus 3:5’s “works done in righteousness” is the letter’s flattest karma-collision point.
Justificationδικαίωσις / δικαιόω (dikaiōsis)धर्मी ठहराया जानाdharmī ṭaharāyā jānāSalvation by Grace not WorksTM: reused3Compound phrase mandatory; never abbreviated.
”Great God and Savior Jesus Christ”μέγας θεὸς καὶ σωτὴρ ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦς Χριστόςहमारे महान परमेश्वर और उद्धारकर्ता यीशु मसीहhamāre mahāna Parameśvara aura uddhārakartā Yīśu MasīhaDeity of ChristNEW2Single-referent grammatical structure (Titus 2:13) must be preserved — one person named by both titles, not two beings. Mandatory theologian review.
Regeneration / washing of regenerationπαλιγγενεσία / λουτρὸν παλιγγενεσίας (palingenesia / loutron palingenesias)नये जन्म का धोनाnaye janma kā dhonāRegeneration by the Holy SpiritNEW3Greek etymology (πάλιν “again” + γένεσις “birth”) is a direct calque-match for the forbidden पुनर्जन्म (reincarnation). Use नया जन्म per baseline new_birth; never a literal “again-birth” construction. λουτρόν (“washing”) must avoid स्नान (ritual bathing, Ganges-bathing collision) per baseline baptism caution. Mandatory theologian review, every occurrence, no exceptions — the single highest-risk term in the book.
Holy Spiritπνεῦμα ἅγιον (pneuma hagion)पवित्र आत्माPavitra ĀtmāRegeneration by the Holy SpiritTM: reused3Never ब्रह्म/परमात्मा alone.
Godθεός (theos)परमेश्वरParameśvara(foundational)TM: reused1,2,3Never भगवान.
Jesus / ChristἸησοῦς Χριστός (Iēsous Christos)यीशु मसीहYīśu MasīhaDeity of ChristTM: reused1,2,3Established BSI forms.

Table 2 — High-Risk Terms

TermGreek (translit.)HindiTranslit.DoctrineStatusCh.Notes
Appearing / epiphanyἐπιφάνεια / ἐπιφαίνω (epiphaneia/epiphainō)प्रकट होनाprakaṭa honāGrace That Trains for Godly Living; Deity of ChristNEW2,3Grace’s, Christ’s glory’s, and God’s kindness’s threefold “appearing” (2:11,13;3:4) structures the whole core passage. Never अवतार/अवतरण-family vocabulary — avatāra-collision. Mandatory translator note distinguishing a one-time historical/eschatological event from cyclical divine descent.
Training (grace that trains)παιδεύω (paideuō)प्रशिक्षित करनाpraśikṣit karanāGrace That Trains for Godly LivingNEW2Grace is the grammatical agent training the believer (2:12); never rendered with a term implying self-achieved ascetic discipline (तपस्या forbidden). Core term for this curriculum’s namesake doctrine.
Godlinessεὐσέβεια (eusebeia)भक्तिbhaktiGrace That Trains for Godly LivingNEW1,2Established BSI rendering; strong collision with Hindu bhakti-mārga devotional religion. Mandatory translator note on every occurrence distinguishing Christlike, Spirit-produced character (flowing from grace, 2:12) from generic devotional bhakti toward any chosen deity.
Good worksκαλά/ἀγαθὰ ἔργα (kala/agatha erga)भले कामbhale kāmaSound Doctrine and Good WorksNEW1,2,3Never भले कर्म — काम is mandatory throughout, extending baseline works_of_the_law rule. Occurs 6x (1:16;2:7,14;3:1,8,14); the letter’s single most frequent doctrinal phrase; must be rendered identically every time.
Lawlessnessἀνομία (anomia)व्यवस्था-उल्लंघनvyavasthā-ullaṅghanaSalvation by Grace not WorksNEW2अधर्म is available in common usage but risky — extends the baseline caution against अधर्म for “sin” (imports Hindu dharma-cosmology). Prefer व्यवस्था-उल्लंघन, built on established व्यवस्था.
Purify/cleanseκαθαρίζω (katharizō)शुद्ध करनाśuddha karanāSound Doctrine and Good WorksNEW1,2Ritual-purity connotation risk (per baseline caution against शुद्ध for “holy”); must be anchored to Christ’s completed cleansing work (2:14), not a repeatable self-performed ritual (cf. Hindu shuddhi).
Submission / be subjectὑποτάσσω (hypotassō)अधीन होनाadhīna honāSubmission to AuthorityNEW2,3Occurs at 2:5 (wives), 2:9 (slaves), 3:1 (civil rulers). Must convey voluntary, God-ordered submission, distinct from caste-based enforced subordination or implied inherent inferiority. Flag every occurrence for combined theologian + native speaker review.
Sound doctrine / healthy teachingὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία (hygiainousa didaskalia)खरी शिक्षाkharī śikṣāSound Doctrine and Good WorksNEW1,2Occurs 1:9,13;2:1,2,8 (five times) — the letter’s core positive doctrinal-content term. Alternative स्वस्थ शिक्षा preserves Paul’s health metaphor; whichever chosen, apply identically at all five occurrences.
Elder (church office)πρεσβύτερος (presbyteros)प्राचीनprācīnQualifications for EldersNEW1Distinguish from generic “old person” (बुज़ुर्ग) and from guru/panchayat-elder authority models; office requires the specific qualifications of 1:6-9, not age/lineage alone.
Overseerἐπίσκοπος (episkopos)अध्यक्षadhyakṣaQualifications for EldersNEW1Synonymous with πρεσβύτερος in 1:5-7 (same local-church office). Not a later hierarchical “bishop over many churches”; not a guru-figure.
Knowledge of the truthἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείας (epignōsis alētheias)सत्य का ज्ञानsatya kā jñānaSound Doctrine and Good WorksNEW1ज्ञान risks Advaita jñāna-mārga (self-attained liberating gnosis) collision; must be anchored as revealed, relational, apostolic truth received by faith, parallel to baseline known_by_god caution.
Divisive/factious personαἱρετικὸς ἄνθρωπος (hairetikos anthrōpos)विभाजन करनेवालाvibhājana karanevālāAvoiding Divisive ControversiesNEW3Must NOT be rendered as generic “heretic” (which would import a धर्म-based religious-identity framing and anachronistic heresy-trial connotation); Paul’s concern is intra-church factiousness, addressed pastorally.
Renewal (of the Holy Spirit)ἀνακαίνωσις πνεύματος ἁγίου (anakainōsis pneumatos hagiou)पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा नये किए जाने सेPavitra Ātmā ke dvārā naye kie jāne seRegeneration by the Holy SpiritNEW3Related to but distinct from baseline renewing_of_the_mind (Romans 12:2, ongoing sanctification); this is the Spirit’s initial regenerating renewal, co-occurring with new birth.
Faithπίστις (pistis)विश्वासviśvāsaSound Doctrine and Good Works; Salvation by Grace not WorksTM: reused1,2,3Object of faith always God/Christ.
Heirκληρονόμος (klēronomos)वारिसvārisaSalvation by Grace not WorksTM: reused3Governed by grace/promise framework, never merit-earned.
Eternal lifeζωὴ αἰώνιος (zōē aiōnios)अनन्त जीवनananta jīvanaSalvation by Grace not WorksTM: reused1,3Never अमरता/moksha-adjacent framing.
Conscienceσυνείδησις (syneidēsis)विवेकvivekaSound Doctrine and Good WorksTM: reused1Distinguish from ritual-purity discernment and Vedantic विवेक (discrimination).
Confession of profession vs. worksὁμολογέω (homologeō)अंगीकार करनाaṅgīkāra karanāSound Doctrine and Good WorksTM: reused1Public allegiance; here used ironically of false profession contradicted by works.

Present ageὁ νῦν αἰών (ho nyn aiōn)वर्तमान युगvartamāna yugaGrace That Trains for Godly LivingNEW2युग carries Hindu cyclical-cosmology overtones; context must anchor as a linear historical epoch bounded by Christ’s two appearings.

Mythsμῦθος (mythos)कल्पित कहानियाँkalpita kahāniyāṅAvoiding Divisive ControversiesNEW1Contextually anchor as “Jewish myths” specifically; avoid unqualified “myth” given itihāsa/purāṇa collision risk.
Foolish controversies / disputesζήτησις, ἔρις, μάχη (zētēsis, eris, machē)मूर्खतापूर्ण विवादmūrkhatāpūrṇa vivādaAvoiding Divisive ControversiesNEW3Distinguish from the doctrinal rebuking Titus is elsewhere commanded to do; only speculative/divisive debate is condemned.

Older menπρεσβύτης (presbytēs)बूढ़े पुरुषbūṛhe puruṣaQualifications for EldersNEW2Distinct from πρεσβύτερος (church office); glossary must record the distinction explicitly.

Pure/chaste (ἁγνός family)ἁγνός (hagnos)सतीत्व / शुद्ध चरित्रsatītvaQualifications for Elders (extended)NEW2Distinguish from ἅγιος (पवित्र) and καθαρός (शुद्ध) — three overlapping purity terms must not collapse into one Hindi word.
Adorn (the doctrine)κοσμέω (kosmeō)शिक्षा को शोभा देनाśikṣā ko śobhā denāSound Doctrine and Good WorksNEW2Vivid “beautify” image linking good conduct to gospel credibility; do not flatten.

Pure vs. defiled (paradox)καθαρός / μεμιαμμένος (katharos/memiammenos)शुद्ध / अशुद्धśuddha/aśuddhaSound Doctrine and Good WorksNEW1The verse itself argues against ritual-purity legalism — valuable but delicate teaching opportunity for śuddha/aśuddha-conditioned readers.

Risk Summary

Risk TierCount (approx.)Review Routing
Critical10Human theologian, every occurrence
High21Human theologian
Medium34Native speaker; theologian for flagged subset (submission, purity terms, hope)
Low30Automated review

All Critical and High risk terms above must be loaded into translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json before Phase 2 segment translation begins, per the Pre-flight Checklist in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md. New entries require theologian sign-off before enforcement status is granted, consistent with the baseline’s version-increment protocol.

Critical Risk Terms

Salvation

Approved rendering: उद्धार
Transliteration: uddhāra
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मुक्ति, मोक्ष, छुटकारा
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation

CRITICAL: NEVER use मुक्ति or मोक्ष — these carry Hindu liberation from samsara meaning. उद्धार = deliverance by God through Christ. छुटकारा may be used for ‘redemption’ in specific contexts. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:5 (‘he saved us, not because of works’) is the letter’s flattest karma-collision sentence; this verse requires sentence-level, not merely term-level, theologian review.

Righteousness

Approved rendering: धार्मिकता
Transliteration: dhārmikatā
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, पुण्य, न्याय
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation

CRITICAL: Never use धर्म (Hindu cosmic duty). धार्मिकता = right standing before God received through faith. Not a duty performed. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:5’s ‘works done by us in righteousness’ is co-fenced with काम and उद्धार in the single highest-density karma-collision clause in the book.

Justification

Approved rendering: धर्मी ठहराया जाना
Transliteration: dharmī ṭaharāyā jānā
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: माफी पाना, पुण्य प्राप्त करना
Original: δικαιωθέντες / δικαιόω
Category: Salvation

Compound phrase required. Forensic declaration of right standing. No single-word Hindi equivalent. Never abbreviate. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:7 (‘having been justified by his grace’) requires this exact compound phrase, immediately following 3:5’s works-exclusion.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: पवित्र आत्मा
Transliteration: Pavitra Ātmā
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ब्रह्म, परमात्मा, देव-आत्मा
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

CRITICAL: Never use ब्रह्म (Hindu Brahman) or परमात्मा alone (Hindu universal Self). पवित्र आत्मा is the personal Holy Spirit — third Person of the Trinity. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:5-6 names the Spirit as the explicit personal agent of the washing of regeneration and as the one ‘poured out’ — must never read as an impersonal life-force or the believer’s own ātman.

God

Approved rendering: परमेश्वर
Transliteration: Parameśvara
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वर, भगवान
Original: θεός
Category: God

परमेश्वर (Supreme Lord) is the BSI OV standard. भगवान has broad Hindu deity usage — avoid. Inherited from Romans package. Titus applies this term to both Father (1:3;2:10;3:4) and, at 2:13, directly to Jesus Christ — see great_god_and_savior entry below.

Jesus

Approved rendering: यीशु
Transliteration: Yīśu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ईसा, ईशू

BSI OV standard form. ईसा is used in Muslim/Urdu contexts; यीशु is the Hindi Christian standard. Inherited from Romans package. Combines with मसीह as यीशु मसीह throughout Titus.

Messiah

Approved rendering: मसीह
Transliteration: Masīha
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: अभिषिक्त व्यक्ति, देव-दूत

Transliterated term; established in all Hindi Bible traditions. Inherited from Romans package. Combines with यीशु as यीशु मसीह throughout Titus.

Lord

Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: Prabhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: स्वामी, ईश्वर

Established term. Must convey exclusive, supreme Lordship. Inherited from Romans package. Referenced in Titus as the reason स्वामी is FORBIDDEN for God/Christ (guru/ascetic-title collision) even though स्वामी is permitted for the human household master of Titus 2:9 — see master_human entry.

Resurrection

Approved rendering: पुनरुत्थान
Transliteration: punaruttāna
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: पुनर्जन्म, पुनर्जीवन

CRITICAL: NEVER use पुनर्जन्म (reincarnation). Inherited from Romans package. Not itself a Titus term, but the exact forbidden-term discipline this entry established (never पुनर्जन्म) is the direct precedent and rationale for the Titus-specific regeneration_washing entry below, whose Greek etymology independently calques onto the same forbidden word.

Freedom

Approved rendering: स्वतंत्रता
Transliteration: svatantratā
Doctrine: Freedom
Rejected alternatives: मुक्ति, मोक्ष

मुक्ति/मोक्ष absolutely forbidden. Inherited from Galatians baseline. Titus 3:3 describes the pre-conversion self as δουλεύοντες (‘enslaved’) to passions — the implicit slavery/freedom antithesis this entry governs, even though ‘freedom’ is not itself an explicit Titus term.

Jesus Christ

Approved rendering: यीशु मसीह
Transliteration: Yīśu Masīha
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς Χριστός
Category: Christology

Combined proper-name form built from the baseline jesus and messiah entries, reused exactly. Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline established forms. Occurs throughout Titus, most critically at 2:13 within the great_god_and_savior single-referent construction.

Savior Title

Approved rendering: उद्धारकर्ता
Transliteration: uddhārakartā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: σωτήρ
Category: Christology

NEW — Titus’s dominant Christological title (6x: 1:3,4; 2:10,13; 3:4,6), applied identically to both God the Father and Jesus Christ. Must be rendered with the IDENTICAL Hindi word every single occurrence regardless of referent. Any inconsistency (e.g., a more exalted word for the Father, a lesser one for the Son) erases Paul’s deliberate Father/Son title-sharing deity-of-Christ argument. Mandatory theologian review, every occurrence.

Great God And Savior

Approved rendering: हमारे महान परमेश्वर और उद्धारकर्ता यीशु मसीह
Transliteration: hamāre mahāna Parameśvara aura uddhārakartā Yīśu Masīha
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: comma/conjunction insertion implying two beings (‘हमारे महान परमेश्वर, और उद्धारकर्ता यीशु मसीह’ read as two separate figures)
Original: τοῦ μεγάλου θεοῦ καὶ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Christology

NEW — Titus 2:13’s single-referent (Granville Sharp construction) title identifying Jesus Christ directly as ‘our great God and Savior.’ The Hindi MUST preserve one-person reference; any syntax permitting a two-being reading (natural in a milieu accustomed to distinguishing a supreme deity from subordinate emissaries/avatars) destroys this direct affirmation of Christ’s full deity. Fixed template, applied verbatim, no paraphrase variation. Mandatory theologian review, every occurrence.

Regeneration Washing

Approved rendering: नये जन्म का धोना
Transliteration: naye janma kā dhonā
Doctrine: Regeneration
Rejected alternatives: पुनर्जन्म-आधारित रचना (any literal ‘again-birth’ calque construction), स्नान (ritual bathing)
Original: λουτρὸν παλιγγενεσίας
Category: Regeneration

NEW — the single highest-risk term in Titus. παλιγγενεσία (πάλιν ‘again’ + γένεσις ‘birth’) is a direct etymological calque-match for the forbidden पुनर्जन्म (reincarnation); a word-by-word rendering from Greek roots independently arrives at the forbidden term without any individual word being ‘wrong.’ λουτρόν (‘washing’) additionally risks a Ganges-bathing/tīrtha-snāna reading if rendered स्नान. Use नया जन्म (never a literal again-birth construction) plus a descriptive washing/cleansing phrase anchored to Christ’s completed, non-repeatable work. Fixed string, no paraphrase variation permitted. Mandatory theologian review, every occurrence, no exceptions. Titus 3:5, in combination with the works-exclusion clause of the same verse, is the single highest cumulative doctrinal-collision point in the entire curriculum.

High Risk Terms

Grace

Approved rendering: अनुग्रह
Transliteration: anugraha
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: कृपा, दया, वरदान, भाग्य, कर्म-फल, पुण्य
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Must convey unmerited favor apart from any human merit. Directly counters karma worldview. कृपा may be used for mercy/compassion in non-grace contexts only. Inherited from Romans package. In Titus 2:11-12, अनुग्रह is additionally the grammatical AGENT that ‘trains’ (प्रशिक्षित करना) believers — sentence-level review required to confirm अनुग्रह remains the acting subject, not a background gift the believer uses to train themselves. Foundational to Salvation by Grace not Works (2:11; 3:4-7) and Grace That Trains for Godly Living (2:12).

Law

Approved rendering: व्यवस्था
Transliteration: vyavasthā
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, शरीयत, नियम
Original: νόμος / νομικός
Category: Covenant

Torah/Mosaic law. NEVER use धर्म (Hindu dharma). व्यवस्था is established in BSI OV. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:9 (‘quarrels about the law’) and 3:13 (‘Zenas the lawyer,’ νομικός) both build on this term; also the base for the new व्यवस्था-उल्लंघन (lawlessness) compound.

Election

Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का चुनाव
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā cunāva
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, नियति, किस्मत
Original: ἐκλεκτῶν θεοῦ
Category: Salvation

God’s sovereign personal choice; not karma-determined fate or impersonal destiny. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 1:1’s ‘God’s elect’ (ἐκλεκτῶν θεοῦ) is rendered परमेश्वर के चुने हुए लोग, the plural-noun form of this same family; never भाग्य/नियति/किस्मत.

Promise

Approved rendering: प्रतिज्ञा
Transliteration: pratijñā
Doctrine: Covenant
Rejected alternatives: वरदान, वचन (alone, ambiguous with mere spoken word)
Original: ἐπηγγείλατο / ἐπαγγελία
Category: Covenant

God’s unilateral, unconditional covenant pledge. वरदान forbidden — would make the promise merit-conditioned. Inherited from Galatians baseline. Titus 1:2: God ‘promised eternal life before the ages began’ — grounds the letter’s opening hope and its 3:7 inclusio partner.

Eternal Life

Approved rendering: अनन्त जीवन
Transliteration: ananta jīvana
Doctrine: Eschatology
Rejected alternatives: अमरता (immortality-through-liberation framing)
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Eschatology

Gift-harvest from the Spirit; never liberation-immortality or moksha-style absorption. Inherited from Galatians baseline. Forms an inclusio in Titus between 1:2 and 3:7.

Conscience

Approved rendering: विवेक
Transliteration: viveka
Doctrine: Conscience
Rejected alternatives: अंतरात्मा
Original: συνείδησις
Category: Doctrine

Moral awareness before God; distinguish from Vedantic विवेक (discrimination between the real and unreal, Brahman/māyā). Inherited from Romans package. Titus 1:15’s pure/defiled paradox and 1:16’s confession-vs-works both hinge on this term.

Confession Of Faith

Approved rendering: अंगीकार करना
Transliteration: aṅgīkāra karanā
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: स्वीकार करना

Public, personal allegiance to Jesus as Lord. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 1:16 uses this term ironically of FALSE profession (‘profess to know God but deny him by their works’) — the inverse warning to 3:8’s genuine belief-then-good-works pattern.

Faith

Approved rendering: विश्वास
Transliteration: viśvāsa
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: श्रद्धा, आस्था, भरोसा
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Trust in a specific person (Christ/God); object of faith must always be specified in context. Inherited from Romans package. Occurs throughout Titus (1:1,4,13; 2:2,10; 3:8,15); precedes and grounds good works (3:8), never the reverse.

Redemption

Approved rendering: छुटकारा
Transliteration: chuṭakārā
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मुक्ति, मोक्ष
Original: λυτρώσηται
Category: Salvation

Deliverance secured at a price; never मुक्ति/मोक्ष. Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline. Titus 2:14: Christ’s decisive, price-paid rescue of believers ‘from all lawlessness.‘

New Birth

Approved rendering: नया जन्म
Transliteration: nayā janma
Doctrine: Regeneration
Rejected alternatives: पुनर्जन्म

Established Christian term. NEVER पुनर्जन्म (reincarnation). Inherited from Romans package. This is the base phrase incorporated into the Titus-specific compound नये जन्म का धोना (regeneration_washing, Titus 3:5) — never rendered as a literal ‘again-birth’ calque.

Works Of The Law

Approved rendering: व्यवस्था के काम
Transliteration: vyavasthā ke kāma
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: कर्म

NEVER कर्म for ‘works’ — karma imports merit-accumulation cosmology. Inherited from Galatians baseline. This is the direct precedent for Titus’s absolute, six-times-repeated काम (never कर्म) rule for the good_works refrain (1:16; 2:7,14; 3:1,8,14).

Sin

Approved rendering: पाप
Transliteration: pāpa
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: अधर्म, अशुद्धता

Moral transgression before a personal God; distinguish from ritual impurity (अशुद्धता) and bad karma. Inherited from Romans package. This entry’s rejection of अधर्म (imports Hindu dharma-cosmology) is the direct precedent governing the new lawlessness (व्यवस्था-उल्लंघन, Titus 2:14) entry, which extends the same prohibition to ἀνομία.

Glory

Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mahimā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: देव-ज्योति, प्रकाश

God’s radiant presence and honor. Avoid light-metaphors that could conflate with Hindu divine light concepts. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 2:13: ‘the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ’ — combines with the new epiphany_appearing entry.

Obedience Of Faith

Approved rendering: विश्वास की आज्ञाकारिता
Transliteration: viśvāsa kī ājñākāritā
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: धार्मिक नियम पालन, धार्मिक कर्तव्य

Obedience that flows from faith, not works-based obedience that achieves standing. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:3’s ἀπειθεῖς (‘disobedient’) is the direct antonym of this doctrine, describing the pre-conversion condition reversed at 3:4-7.

Power Of God

Approved rendering: परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य
Transliteration: Parameśvara kī sāmarthya
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: शक्ति, ताकत

Use सामर्थ्य; never शक्ति (Hindu Shakti concept). Inherited from Romans package. This entry’s prohibition of शक्ति is the direct governing rule for the new poured_out entry (Titus 3:6): the Spirit is poured out by a personal God, never like an impersonal shakti-force.

Holy

Approved rendering: पवित्र
Transliteration: pavitra
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: शुद्ध, निर्मल

Set apart for God; morally pure. शुद्ध has ritual purity connotations. Inherited from Romans package. Anchors one leg of Titus’s three-way purity-family distinction: ἅγιος→पवित्र, καθαρός→शुद्ध (never used for ‘holy’), ἁγνός→सतीत्व — the three Hindi words must never collapse into one another.

Unity In Christ

Approved rendering: तुम सब मसीह यीशु में एक हो
Transliteration: tuma saba Masīha Yīśu meṃ eka ho
Doctrine: Church

The apex anti-caste, anti-class, anti-gender-hierarchy text of Galatians. Inherited from Galatians baseline. Cited as the theological counterweight guarding Titus’s submission doctrine (2:5,9;3:1) from being misread as reinstating the very fixed social hierarchy this verse dismantles.

Known By God

Approved rendering: परमेश्वर ने तुम्हें जान लिया
Transliteration: Parameśvara ne tumheṃ jāna liyā
Doctrine: Salvation

Divine relational initiative, not attainment of jñāna (liberating self-realization). Inherited from Galatians baseline. Direct precedent and parallel caution for the new knowledge_of_truth entry (Titus 1:1’s ἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείας), which must likewise be anchored as revealed, relational truth received by faith, not self-attained jñāna-mārga gnosis.

Renewal Of Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा नये किए जाने से
Transliteration: Pavitra Ātmā ke dvārā naye kie jāne se
Doctrine: Regeneration
Original: ἀνακαίνωσις πνεύματος ἁγίου
Category: Regeneration

NEW — Titus 3:5: the Spirit’s renewing action, one event together with the washing of regeneration, naming the Holy Spirit as the explicit personal agent of new birth. Related to but distinct from the baseline renewing_of_the_mind entry (ongoing sanctification, Romans 12:2); this is the Spirit’s INITIAL regenerating renewal at conversion. पवित्र आत्मा must remain the personal, distinct divine agent, not an impersonal life-force renewing the believer’s own ātman.

Epiphany Appearing

Approved rendering: प्रकट होना
Transliteration: prakaṭa honā
Doctrine: Grace That Trains for Godly Living
Rejected alternatives: अवतार, अवतरण
Original: ἐπιφάνεια / ἐπιφαίνω
Category: Christology

NEW — the verb/noun family (ἐπιφάνεια/ἐπιφαίνω) describing grace’s past appearing (2:11), Christ’s future glorious appearing (2:13), and God’s kindness’s appearing (3:4) — a deliberate threefold structural inclusio around the core passage. Hellenistic ἐπιφάνεια vocabulary was used of a deity’s periodic visible manifestation, structurally parallel to avatāra/darśan. NEVER use अवतार/अवतरण-family vocabulary. Mandatory translator note on first use in every document distinguishing a one-time, historical/eschatological event from a repeatable cyclical divine descent.

Training Paideuo

Approved rendering: प्रशिक्षित करना
Transliteration: praśikṣit karanā
Doctrine: Grace That Trains for Godly Living
Rejected alternatives: तपस्या (ascetic self-discipline/penance), साधना
Original: παιδεύουσα (παιδεύω)
Category: Sanctification

NEW — Titus 2:12: grace itself, as grammatical subject, ‘trains’ believers to renounce ungodliness and live godly lives — the curriculum’s namesake doctrine term. अनुग्रह must remain the acting subject; तपस्या/साधना (self-achieved ascetic discipline) are categorically forbidden, since either would invert the doctrine into a karma/tapasya self-training model — precisely what Titus 3:5 rules out for salvation and 2:12 rules out for sanctification.

Godliness

Approved rendering: भक्ति
Transliteration: bhakti
Doctrine: Grace That Trains for Godly Living
Original: εὐσέβεια / εὐσεβῶς
Category: Sanctification

NEW — established BSI rendering of εὐσέβεια (1:1; 2:12), but simultaneously the primary Hindi term for Hindu devotional religion (bhakti-mārga, devotional love toward a chosen personal deity, one of three classical paths to liberation). No substitute word exists; every occurrence requires a mandatory standing translator note distinguishing Spirit-produced, grace-flowing Christlike character (2:12’s immediate context) from generic devotional bhakti toward any deity of one’s choosing. This is a fencing-by-annotation strategy, since substitution is not available.

Good Works

Approved rendering: भले काम
Transliteration: bhale kāma
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Rejected alternatives: भले कर्म
Original: καλὰ / ἀγαθὰ ἔργα
Category: Sanctification

NEW — καλά/ἀγαθὰ ἔργα, the letter’s single most frequent doctrinal phrase (1:16; 2:7,14; 3:1,8,14 — six occurrences). काम is mandatory, NEVER कर्म, extending the baseline works_of_the_law absolute prohibition. This is an override of ordinary stylistic register: कर्म is more idiomatic in casual spoken Hindi for ‘good deed,’ meaning natural drafting instinct actively works AGAINST doctrinal accuracy here. Must be rendered identically at all six occurrences without exception.

Lawlessness

Approved rendering: व्यवस्था-उल्लंघन
Transliteration: vyavasthā-ullaṅghana
Doctrine: Christ’s Self-Giving and Redemption
Rejected alternatives: अधर्म
Original: ἀνομία
Category: Sin

NEW — ἀνομία, Titus 2:14: the condition of being fundamentally opposed to God’s order, from which Christ’s self-giving redeems a people. अधर्म is available and common but forbidden, extending the baseline sin entry’s prohibition against अधर्म (imports Hindu dharma-cosmology). व्यवस्था-उल्लंघन, built compositionally on the already-established व्यवस्था, is the doctrinally safer construction.

Purify Cleanse

Approved rendering: शुद्ध करना
Transliteration: śuddha karanā
Doctrine: Christ’s Self-Giving and Redemption
Original: καθαρίσῃ / καθαρίζω
Category: Sanctification

NEW — καθαρίζω/καθαρίσῃ, Titus 2:14: Christ’s own completed cleansing action creating a holy people. शुद्ध carries ritual-purity connotations; must be anchored by context/note as Christ’s own once-for-all, completed cleansing work through his self-giving, never a repeatable ritual purification the redeemed people perform on themselves (the precise Hindu shuddhi-rite collision risk).

Submission

Approved rendering: अधीन होना
Transliteration: adhīna honā
Doctrine: Submission to Authority
Original: ὑποτάσσω / ὑποτάσσεσθαι
Category: Household Ethics

NEW — ὑποτάσσω/ὑποτάσσεσθαι, occurring at 2:5 (wives), 2:9 (slaves), 3:1 (civil rulers) — a consistent household/social-order vocabulary. Must convey voluntary, God-ordered submission within a relationally-entered structure, distinct from (a) caste-based enforced subordination assumed permanent and unchangeable by birth, and (b) any implication of inherent inferiority of the one submitting. Given the letter’s three distinct social contexts and India’s live caste/gender hierarchy, EVERY occurrence must be flagged for combined theologian and native speaker review, with a co-located translator note (not merely a glossary entry).

Sound Doctrine

Approved rendering: खरी शिक्षा
Transliteration: kharī śikṣā
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Rejected alternatives: स्वस्थ शिक्षा (viable alternative preserving the health metaphor, but must not be alternated with खरी शिक्षा once one is chosen)
Original: ὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία
Category: Doctrine

NEW — ὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία, occurring 5x (1:9,13; 2:1,2,8) — the letter’s central positive doctrinal-content term (teaching that produces spiritual health, vs. diseased/corrupting teaching). Whichever rendering is chosen must be applied IDENTICALLY at all five occurrences without alternation.

Elder

Approved rendering: प्राचीन
Transliteration: prācīn
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Rejected alternatives: बुज़ुर्ग (generic elderly person), गुरु
Original: πρεσβύτερος
Category: Church Leadership

NEW — πρεσβύτερος, the church office Titus is to establish in every town (1:5), synonymous in this text with ἐπίσκοπος. Must be distinguished from generic secular ‘old person’ and from guru/panchayat-elder authority models, where authority is unquestionable by virtue of age/lineage rather than the specific, checkable moral/doctrinal qualifications Paul lists (1:6-9).

Overseer

Approved rendering: अध्यक्ष
Transliteration: adhyakṣa
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Rejected alternatives: बिशप (transliterated ‘bishop,’ implying later monarchical hierarchy)
Original: ἐπίσκοπος
Category: Church Leadership

NEW — ἐπίσκοπος, used interchangeably with πρεσβύτερος for the same local-church office in 1:5-7. Must be read as functionally identical to प्राचीन in this text — shepherding oversight of a single local congregation, not a later monarchical bishop ranking over multiple congregations, and not a guru-figure whose authority rests on personal charisma.

Knowledge Of Truth

Approved rendering: सत्य का ज्ञान
Transliteration: satya kā jñāna
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: ἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείας
Category: Gospel

NEW — ἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείας, Titus 1:1: the objectively revealed apostolic truth Paul’s ministry serves. ज्ञान risks an Advaita jñāna-mārga reading (self-attained liberating gnosis); must be anchored by context as revealed, apostolic, relational truth received by faith, parallel to the baseline known_by_god caution.

Divisive Person

Approved rendering: विभाजन करनेवाला
Transliteration: vibhājana karanevālā
Doctrine: Avoiding Divisive Controversies
Rejected alternatives: पाखण्डी, विधर्मी, नास्तिक
Original: αἱρετικὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Church

NEW — αἱρετικὸς ἄνθρωπος, Titus 3:10: a person who fractures church unity through persistent quarrelsomeness, addressed with two pastoral warnings before avoidance. Must NOT be rendered with a generic ‘heretic’ term (विधर्मी/पाखण्डी are built on the धर्म morpheme and import a right-religion-vs-wrong-religion framing foreign to Paul’s actual, narrower pastoral concern with intra-church factiousness). Categorically reject any धर्म-rooted alternative for this term across all documents in the curriculum.

Confession Vs Works

Approved rendering: अंगीकार करना
Transliteration: aṅgīkāra karanā
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: θεὸν ὁμολογοῦσιν εἰδέναι, τοῖς δὲ ἔργοις ἀρνοῦνται
Category: Doctrine

NEW (Titus-specific application of the inherited confession_of_faith entry) — θεὸν ὁμολογοῦσιν εἰδέναι τοῖς δὲ ἔργοις ἀρνοῦνται, Titus 1:16: false teachers profess to know God but deny him by their works — the inverse warning to the 3:8 genuine-belief-then-good-works pattern. काम, never कर्म, must be maintained here as elsewhere so the confession/works contrast reads as a test of genuineness, not a karma-merit ledger.

Medium Risk Terms

Heir

Approved rendering: वारिस
Transliteration: vārisa
Doctrine: Covenant
Original: κληρονόμοι
Category: Covenant

Full inheritance by promise/adoption, never merit-earned. Inherited from Galatians baseline. Titus 3:7: believers ‘become heirs’ as a direct result of being justified by grace — must be governed by the surrounding grace/promise framework, never suggesting inheritance earned by dutiful family service.

Apostle

Approved rendering: प्रेरित
Transliteration: prerita
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: दूत, संदेशवाहक
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church

Established Hindi Christian term. Conveys authorized sent-out messenger with delegated authority. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 1:1: Paul’s self-identification, grounding all subsequent apostolic authority delegated to Titus (1:5; 2:15; 3:1).

Mercy

Approved rendering: दया
Transliteration: dayā
Doctrine: Mercy of God
Original: τὸ αὐτοῦ ἔλεος
Category: God

Kept distinct from अनुग्रह (grace, unmerited favor). दया = compassion toward the miserable. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:5: ‘according to his own mercy’ is the positive ground of salvation replacing human works.

Kindness Of God

Approved rendering: कृपा
Transliteration: kṛpā
Doctrine: Character of God
Original: χρηστότης
Category: God

Permitted per the grace entry’s note (कृपा allowed in non-grace contexts). Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:4: χρηστότης (‘the goodness/kindness of God our Savior’) maps to this entry exactly.

Zeal

Approved rendering: उत्साह
Transliteration: utsāha
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: जोश
Original: ζηλωτὴν (καλῶν ἔργων)
Category: Sanctification

Sincere religious energy that cannot save. Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline. Titus 2:14: believers made ‘zealous for good works’ — sincere devotion redirected toward the FRUIT of redemption, never toward earning it.

Governing Authorities

Approved rendering: शासन के अधिकारी
Transliteration: śāsana ke adhikārī
Doctrine: Civil Authority
Original: ἀρχαῖς ἐξουσίαις
Category: Civil Authority

For ‘civil order’ use नागरिक/सामाजिक सुव्यवस्था — never bare व्यवस्था, reserved for Torah. All Romans 13:1-7-style content routes to native speaker review. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:1: ‘submissive to rulers and authorities’ — routed to the same review lane as Romans 13:1-7 given identical honor/political-sensitivity profile.

Circumcision

Approved rendering: खतना
Transliteration: khatanā
Doctrine: Covenant
Original: περιτομή
Category: Covenant

BSI OV term. Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline. Titus 1:10: ‘those of the circumcision party,’ the faction among the false teachers on Crete.

Slavery

Approved rendering: दासत्व / दास
Transliteration: dāsatva / dāsa
Doctrine: Freedom
Original: δοῦλος / δουλεύω
Category: Household Ethics

Must be used consistently across all occurrences. Inherited from Galatians baseline. Titus uses this family at three distinct sites: Paul’s self-designation as God’s δοῦλος (1:1), the household ethics for believing slaves (2:9), and the pre-conversion bondage to passions (3:3) — consistency across all three is required.

Baptism

Approved rendering: बपतिस्मा
Transliteration: bapatismā
Doctrine: Union with Christ
Rejected alternatives: स्नान, दीक्षा

Established transliterated term; never ritual-bathing or initiation vocabulary. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 3:5’s λουτρόν (‘washing’) likely alludes to baptism as its visible sign; this entry’s prohibition of स्नान is the direct governing rule preventing a Ganges-bathing (tīrtha-snāna) reading of that verse.

Brotherly Love

Approved rendering: भाईचारे का प्रेम
Transliteration: bhāīcāre kā prema
Doctrine: Mutual Edification

Philadelphia-specific term. Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline. Kept distinct from the new Titus love_general entry (ἀγάπη, 2:2,4), which is generic Christian love, not the philadelphia-specific fellowship term.

Weak In Faith

Approved rendering: विश्वास में निर्बल
Transliteration: viśvāsa meṃ nirbala
Doctrine: Christian Liberty
Rejected alternatives: कमज़ोर विश्वासी

Descriptive of scruples, not spiritual inferiority — tone must stay non-contemptuous. Inherited from Romans package. This tone precedent directly governs the Titus submission entry (2:5,9;3:1): submission language must likewise remain non-contemptuous toward the submitting party.

Renewing Of The Mind

Approved rendering: मन का नया हो जाना
Transliteration: mana kā nayā ho jānā
Doctrine: Sanctification

Ongoing Spirit-worked renewal (Romans 12:2), not self-improvement technique or meditation practice. Inherited from Romans package. Distinct from Titus’s renewal_of_holy_spirit entry (3:5), which names the Spirit’s INITIAL regenerating renewal at conversion, not ongoing sanctification renewal — the two must not be conflated.

Worldly Passions

Approved rendering: संसारिक अभिलाषाएँ
Transliteration: saṃsārika abhilāṣāeṃ
Doctrine: Grace That Trains for Godly Living
Original: κοσμικαὶ ἐπιθυμίαι
Category: Sin

NEW — κοσμικαὶ ἐπιθυμίαι, Titus 2:12. Parallels the baseline flesh caution — must not read as body-negation/asceticism; the fault named is the present age’s orientation, not embodiment itself.

Present Age

Approved rendering: वर्तमान युग
Transliteration: vartamāna yuga
Doctrine: Grace That Trains for Godly Living
Original: ὁ νῦν αἰών
Category: Eschatology

NEW — ὁ νῦν αἰών, Titus 2:12. युग carries strong Hindu cyclical-cosmology connotation (Satya, Kali Yuga, etc.); context must make clear this is a single linear historical epoch bounded by Christ’s first and second appearing, not a point within an endless cosmic cycle.

Blameless

Approved rendering: निर्दोष
Transliteration: nirdoṣa
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Original: ἀνέγκλητος
Category: Church Leadership

NEW — ἀνέγκλητος, the repeated elder qualification standard (1:6,7). Moral credibility as a precondition for spiritual authority, not an assumed status of age or lineage.

Steward

Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का भण्डारी
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā bhaṇḍārī
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Original: θεοῦ οἰκονόμον
Category: Church Leadership

NEW — θεοῦ οἰκονόμον, Titus 1:7. Term-family reused from the baseline guardians_stewards (Galatians) entry. The elder/overseer manages what belongs to God, not a personal domain.

Rebuke

Approved rendering: उलाहना देना
Transliteration: ulāhanā denā
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: ἔλεγχε / ἐλέγχω
Category: Doctrine

NEW — ἐλέγχω/ἔλεγχε (1:9,13; 2:15). Firm doctrinal correction paired with encouragement as the full range of pastoral speech. Tone must remain corrective-pastoral and consistent across all three occurrences, matching the register of the baseline restore_gently entry.

Authority Command

Approved rendering: अधिकार
Transliteration: adhikāra
Doctrine: Submission to Authority
Original: ἐπιταγή
Category: Civil Authority

NEW — ἐπιταγή (1:3; 2:15; 3:1 background). Derived apostolic/teaching authority with which Titus is to speak, not merely personal opinion.

Obey

Approved rendering: आज्ञा मानना
Transliteration: ājñā mānanā
Doctrine: Submission to Authority
Original: πειθαρχεῖν
Category: Civil Authority

NEW — πειθαρχεῖν, Titus 3:1: active compliance with civil rulers and authorities, reinforcing ὑποτάσσεσθαι. Must not be read as unconditional or unlimited obedience overriding conscience toward God.

Master Human

Approved rendering: स्वामी
Transliteration: svāmī
Doctrine: Submission to Authority
Original: δεσπότης
Category: Household Ethics

NEW — δεσπότης, Titus 2:9: a human household-authority title (a slave’s earthly master), distinct in referent from θεός/κύριος. IMPORTANT CAUTION: the baseline lord entry explicitly REJECTS स्वामी for κύριος/God because of its Hindu guru/ascetic-title association (‘Swami’). Here स्वामी is permitted ONLY for this human referent; surrounding context must make the human, non-divine referent unmistakable in every occurrence, since Devanagari carries no case-distinction equivalent to English capitalization of ‘Lord’ vs. ‘lord.‘

Philanthropy

Approved rendering: मनुष्यों के प्रति प्रेम
Transliteration: manuṣyoṃ ke prati prema
Doctrine: Regeneration by the Holy Spirit
Original: φιλανθρωπία
Category: Regeneration

NEW — φιλανθρωπία, Titus 3:4: God’s own loving disposition toward humanity, paired with χρηστότης as the ground of the before/after salvation narrative. Must not be flattened into humanitarian benevolence divorced from the gospel.

Poured Out

Approved rendering: उंडेल दिया
Transliteration: uṇḍela diyā
Doctrine: Regeneration by the Holy Spirit
Original: ἐξέχεεν
Category: Regeneration

NEW — ἐξέχεεν, Titus 3:6: the Spirit’s giving is generous, personal, and abundant. Must retain the Spirit as a personal divine gift given by a personal God, not an impersonal energy/shakti ‘poured’ like a substance, per the baseline power_of_god caution against शक्ति.

Trustworthy Saying

Approved rendering: यह वचन विश्वासयोग्य है
Transliteration: yaha vacana viśvāsayogya hai
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος
Category: Doctrine

NEW — πιστὸς ὁ λόγος, Titus 3:8: a fixed Pastoral-Epistles formula marking 3:4-7 as a settled creedal summary of the gospel. Flag for cross-document consistency if other Pastoral Epistles using this same formula are added to the curriculum later.

Myths

Approved rendering: कल्पित कहानियाँ
Transliteration: kalpita kahāniyāṃ
Doctrine: Avoiding Divisive Controversies
Original: μύθοις (Ἰουδαϊκοῖς)
Category: Church

NEW — μῦθοι (Ἰουδαϊκοῖς μύθοις), Titus 1:14. Must be contextually anchored to ‘Jewish myths’ specifically, not left as an unqualified ‘myths’ — in the Indian context, an unqualified rendering readily maps onto itihāsa/purāṇa sacred narrative traditions the text does not itself address.

Foolish Controversies

Approved rendering: मूर्खतापूर्ण विवाद
Transliteration: mūrkhatāpūrṇa vivāda
Doctrine: Avoiding Divisive Controversies
Original: μωρὰς ζητήσεις
Category: Church

NEW — μωρὰς ζητήσεις, Titus 3:9. Must be carefully distinguished from the doctrinal rebuking Titus is elsewhere commanded to do (1:9,13; 2:15) — only speculative, unprofitable disputes are condemned, not necessary doctrinal correction.

Special Possession People

Approved rendering: अपनी निज प्रजा
Transliteration: apanī nija prajā
Doctrine: Christ’s Self-Giving and Redemption
Original: λαὸν περιούσιον
Category: Covenant

NEW — λαὸν περιούσιον, Titus 2:14, an LXX-echoing covenant term (Exodus 19:5). Must be read as inclusive New Covenant identity open to all who believe, not an ethnic-privilege or caste-like exclusive category conferring inherited spiritual rank.

Older Men

Approved rendering: बूढ़े पुरुष
Transliteration: būṛhe puruṣa
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Original: πρεσβύτας
Category: Church Leadership

NEW — πρεσβύτας, Titus 2:2: an age-category distinct from the church office πρεσβύτερος though sharing the same root. Must record the elder-office vs. older-man distinction explicitly to prevent conflation with the elder entry.

Love General

Approved rendering: प्रेम
Transliteration: prema
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Sanctification

NEW — ἀγάπη, Titus 2:2,4: general Christian love, distinct from the baseline brotherly_love (philadelphia-specific) entry. Recorded separately to avoid confusion between the two.

Reverent In Behavior

Approved rendering: पवित्रता के योग्य
Transliteration: pavitratā ke yogya
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Original: ἱεροπρεπεῖς
Category: Church Leadership

NEW — ἱεροπρεπεῖς, Titus 2:3, required of older women. Contains the ἱερός (‘sacred/priestly’) root, risking priestly/ritual-decorum overtone (cf. Hindu pujari ritual decorum); must be read as general godly dignity of character, not ritual performance.

Pure Chaste

Approved rendering: सतीत्व
Transliteration: satītva
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Original: ἁγνάς
Category: Church Leadership

NEW — ἁγνάς, Titus 2:5, required of younger wives. A distinct purity term from ἅγιος (पवित्र) and καθαρός (शुद्ध), carrying a specifically sexual/marital-fidelity nuance; the three overlapping Greek purity-family terms must never collapse into one Hindi word.

Adorn Doctrine

Approved rendering: शिक्षा को शोभा देना
Transliteration: śikṣā ko śobhā denā
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: τὴν διδασκαλίαν κοσμῶσιν
Category: Doctrine

NEW — τὴν διδασκαλίαν κοσμῶσιν, Titus 2:10: a slave’s godly conduct ‘adorns’/beautifies the teaching, making the gospel attractive to outside observers. Must not be flattened to a bland ‘make the teaching look good,’ losing the beautify/adorn nuance.

Hope

Approved rendering: आशा
Transliteration: āśā
Doctrine: Hope of Eternal Life
Original: ἐλπίς
Category: Salvation

NEW — ἐλπίς, forming the inclusio 1:2…2:13…3:7. Must be confident expectation grounded in God’s specific, prior promise, not generic wishful hope, and must not carry any resemblance to karma-conditioned rebirth-outcome uncertainty.

Transliteration: viśvāsa, prema, aura dhīraja meṃ khare
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: ὑγιαίνοντας τῇ πίστει τῇ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ὑπομονῇ
Category: Doctrine

NEW — ὑγιαίνοντας τῇ πίστει τῇ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ὑπομονῇ, Titus 2:2: the health-metaphor extended from doctrine to personal character. Must keep the medical/health image intact and consistent with whichever sound_doctrine rendering is chosen elsewhere.

Pure Vs Defiled

Approved rendering: शुद्ध / अशुद्ध
Transliteration: śuddha / aśuddha
Doctrine: Conscience and the Corrupted Mind
Original: καθαρὰ / μεμιαμμένοις
Category: Doctrine

NEW — καθαρὰ/μεμιαμμένοις, Titus 1:15: ‘to the pure all things are pure…to the defiled…nothing is pure’ — a paradoxical proverb SUBVERTING ritual-purity legalism, not affirming it. Requires careful contextual framing/note, since Hindi readers carry a strong prior śuddha/aśuddha framework that could cause the verse to be misread as endorsing rather than dismantling ritual-purity thinking.

Pre Conversion State

Transliteration: nirbuddhi, ājñā na mānanevālā, bhaṭakatā huā

Category: Regeneration

NEW — ἀνόητοι, ἀπειθεῖς, πλανώμενοι, Titus 3:3: ‘foolish, disobedient, led astray’ — the pre-conversion condition contrasted with 3:4-7’s salvation narrative. ἀπειθεῖς is the antonym-family of the baseline obedience_of_faith doctrine.

Unfruitful

Approved rendering: निष्फल
Transliteration: niṣphala
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: ἄκαρποι
Category: Doctrine

NEW — ἄκαρποι, Titus 3:14, contrasted with 3:8’s ‘profitable.’ Avoid फल-based phrasing that could evoke कर्म-फल merit-accumulation even in this negated form.

Transliteration: Parameśvara kā dāsa
Doctrine: Greeting and Apostolic Identity
Original: δοῦλος θεοῦ
Category: Church

NEW — δοῦλος θεοῦ, Titus 1:1: Paul’s self-identification as God’s bondservant, framing all subsequent authority as derived from total ownership by God — modeling the submission he later commends to others. Term-family reused from the baseline slavery entry.

Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Original: ἀνυπότακτα
Category: Household Ethics

NEW — ἀνυπότακτα, Titus 1:6,10: ‘not-submissive,’ unruly, used of disqualifying children’s conduct and of false teachers — the direct antonym of ὑποτάσσω. Must be kept lexically linked to अधीन होना so the antithesis remains audible.

Category: Church Leadership

NEW — σώφρονα, δίκαιον, ὅσιον, ἐγκρατῆ, Titus 1:8. ὅσιος (भक्त/धार्मिक) is distinct from ἅγιος (holy, पवित्र) — personal devout piety rather than cultic/relational set-apartness. ἐγκράτεια (self-control) must be kept consistent with the Fruit-of-the-Spirit self-control quality, distinct from Hindu ascetic brahmacharya self-mastery pursued for liberation.

Approved rendering: झगड़े और व्यवस्था के विषय में वाद-विवाद
Transliteration: jhagaṛe aura vyavasthā ke viṣaya meṃ vāda-vivāda
Doctrine: Avoiding Divisive Controversies
Original: ἔρεις καὶ μάχας νομικὰς

Guardians Stewards

Approved rendering: रक्षकों और भण्डारियों के अधीन

Exhort

Approved rendering: प्रोत्साहित करना
Transliteration: protsāhita karanā
Doctrine: Mutual Edification

Context-sensitive: use विनती (entreaty) for beseeching; प्रोत्साहित (encourage) for building up. Inherited from Romans package. Titus 2:15: παρακάλει, paired with ἔλεγχε (rebuke) as the full range of Titus’s pastoral speech.
