Core Glossary
Core Glossary: 2 Thessalonians (English–Hindi)
This glossary lists every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, drawn from all three chapters of 2 Thessalonians. Terms already fixed in the baseline translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json are marked [Reused] and must be rendered exactly as recorded there; no deviation is permitted regardless of context in this book. Terms newly introduced by this curriculum are marked [New] and carry a proposed Hindi rendering pending Phase 2 confirmation and, where flagged Critical/High, theologian review. Risk tiers and review routing follow the conventions established in doctrine_risk_registry.json.

Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Must be sharply distinguished from the lowercase ‘a spirit’ of 2:2 (see claimed_spirit_utterance, a false claimed prophecy) and from ‘the breath of his mouth’ (2:8, see breath_of_his_mouth, Christ’s own spoken judgment) — three distinct πνεῦμα-referents within one short letter.

Transliteration: dharmī ṭaharāyā jānā
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: माफी पाना, पुण्य प्राप्त करना
Original: δικαιωθῆναι
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Not directly attested in 2 Thessalonians, but its forensic structure is deliberately mirrored as the antonym pattern for judged_condemned (κριθῶσιν, 2:12) — दोषी ठहराए जाएँ. No deviation from this baseline phrase where it does occur.
Parousia
Approved rendering: आगमन
Transliteration: āgamana
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: उपस्थिति (used by Jehovah’s Witnesses NWT Hindi to deny a visible bodily return), पुनःआगमन (implies a repeated avatāra-cycle descent)
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:1,8,9. Christ’s singular, final, bodily, unrepeatable return. Never assimilate to Hindu avatāra-cycle expectations of repeated divine descents. Mandatory theologian review every occurrence.
Day Of The Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु का दिन
Transliteration: Prabhu kā dina
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: परमेश्वर के न्याय का दिन (loses the OT ‘Day of YHWH’ intertextual link Paul is invoking)
Original: ἡ ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:2; cf. 1:10 ‘that day’. CRITICAL COLLISION: identical to the common Hindi church idiom for ‘the Lord’s Day’ = Sunday worship (a distinct Greek phrase, κυριακὴ ἡμέρα, Revelation 1:10). Mandatory disambiguating translator note on every occurrence; theologian review required.
Apostasia
Approved rendering: विद्रोह
Transliteration: vidroha
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: धर्मत्याग (the live, legally charged Indian term for religious conversion away from one’s ancestral religion — using it here would invert Paul’s meaning), बड़ा विश्वासत्याग (accurate but heavier; retained only as a secondary gloss)
Original: ἡ ἀποστασία
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:3. The great end-times defection/rebellion against God preceding the man of lawlessness’s unveiling. Mandatory translator note distinguishing from धर्मत्याग; theologian review required every occurrence.
Man Of Lawlessness
Approved rendering: अधर्म का पुरुष / अधर्मी
Transliteration: adharma kā puruṣa / adharmī
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: व्यवस्था-विरोधी मनुष्य (avoids the अधर्म morpheme but sounds like a legal-code violator rather than an eschatological arch-opponent; recorded as alternatives_considered, not adopted), पापी मनुष्य (too generic, loses all technical specificity)
Original: ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας / ὁ ἄνομος
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:3,8 (ὁ ἄνομος at 2:8). HIGHEST COLLISION RISK IN THE BOOK: अधर्म activates Hindu cosmology in which a divine avatāra periodically descends ‘to establish dharma and destroy adharma’ (Bhagavad Gita 4:7-8) — risking the opposite of Paul’s meaning. Mandatory translator note on every occurrence distinguishing this specific, historical, personal opponent — judicially destroyed once for all by Christ (2:8) — from any dharma/adharma cosmological restoration cycle. Theologian review mandatory.
Exalts Himself
Approved rendering: अपने आप को परमेश्वर से बड़ा बनाना
Transliteration: apane āpa ko Parameśvara se baṛā banānā
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: स्वयं को ऊँचा उठाना (bare, too weak to convey illegitimate DIVINE self-elevation specifically)
Original: ὑπεραιρόμενος
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:4 (ὑπεραιρόμενος). Illegitimate self-elevation to divine status — the doctrinal heart of this figure. Direct relevance to contemporary self-declared ‘godman’ phenomena in India. Mandatory theologian review with pastoral-sensitivity note.
Temple Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का मन्दिर
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā mandira
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:4 (ναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ). No viable lexical alternative exists — मन्दिर is also the ordinary universal Hindi word for a Hindu temple. Resonates dangerously with narratives of deified gurus enshrined in temples/ashrams across India. Mandatory translator note and theologian review clarifying the referent (God’s own usurped sanctuary; record both the future-Jerusalem-Temple and symbolic readings as alternatives_considered) on every occurrence.
Claims To Be God
Approved rendering: स्वयं को परमेश्वर होने का दावा करना
Transliteration: svayaṃ ko Parameśvara hone kā dāvā karanā
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀποδεικνύντα ἑαυτὸν ὅτι ἔστιν θεός
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:4 (ἀποδεικνύντα ἑαυτὸν ὅτι ἔστιν θεός). The ultimate counterfeit of Christ’s true, eternal deity. Must be marked as a false, condemned claim, in sharp antithetical contrast to Christ’s true deity affirmed at 1:12.
Restrainer
Approved rendering: वह जो अब रोक रहा है
Transliteration: vaha jo aba roka rahā hai
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: a coined single noun e.g. रोकनेवाला (would falsely suggest exegetical resolution where none exists)
Original: τὸ κατέχον / ὁ κατέχων
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:6-7 (τὸ κατέχον / ὁ κατέχων). One of the most exegetically contested phrases in the NT. Render literally and preserve the genuine scholarly ambiguity — do not resolve. Record candidate identifications (Roman rule of law, Holy Spirit, an angelic figure, God’s own decree) as alternatives_considered only. Greek shifts neuter (2:6) to masculine (2:7); Hindi cannot reproduce this grammatically, so the distinction must be carried by explicit wording and a translator note. Theologian review mandatory.
Epiphany Of His Coming
Approved rendering: उसके आगमन का प्रगटन
Transliteration: usake āgamana kā pragaṭana
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: collapsing to a single word (erases Paul’s deliberate rhetorical doubling of epiphaneia + parousia for emphasis)
Original: τῇ ἐπιφανείᾳ τῆς παρουσίας αὐτοῦ
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:8. Keep प्रगटन (epiphaneia) and आगमन (parousia) visibly distinct despite pairing. Extends the Critical parousia flag.
Love Of The Truth
Approved rendering: सच्चाई का प्रेम
Transliteration: saccāī kā prema
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἡ ἀγάπη τῆς ἀληθείας
Category: Salvation
2 Thessalonians 2:10 (ἡ ἀγάπη τῆς ἀληθείας). Identifies the root cause of deception/damnation as a personal, willed rejection of truth, not impersonal fate. Theologian review mandatory.
Strong Delusion
Approved rendering: भ्रम की सामर्थ्य
Transliteration: bhrama kī sāmarthya
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: भ्रम का प्रभाव (understates that this is God’s own judicial action, not a vague ambient influence)
Original: ἐνέργεια πλάνης
Category: Judgment
2 Thessalonians 2:11 (ἐνέργεια πλάνης). God’s own righteous, judicial response to a prior, freely-chosen rejection of the truth. Mandatory translator note tying this to the baseline wrath_of_god Romans 1:24-28 ‘God gave them over’ pattern — never arbitrary cruelty, never impersonal karmic mechanism. Theologian review mandatory every occurrence.
Righteous Judgment
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का धार्मिक न्याय
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā dhārmika nyāya
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: bare न्याय (could drift toward an impersonal cosmic-justice-mechanism reading)
Original: δικαία κρίσις
Category: Judgment
2 Thessalonians 1:5 (δικαία κρίσις). Built on the baseline’s sanctioned धार्मिक adjective. Must be distinguished from बदला (personal vengeance) and from an impersonal karmic ledger. Always retain the full phrase.
Eternal Destruction
Approved rendering: अनन्त विनाश
Transliteration: ananta vināśa
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος
Category: Judgment
2 Thessalonians 1:9 (ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος). Direct antonym of अनन्त जीवन. Must never be softened toward eventual restoration through cyclical rebirth; final, irreversible ruin.
Our God And Lord Jesus Christ
Approved rendering: हमारे परमेश्वर और प्रभु यीशु मसीह
Transliteration: hamāre Parameśvara aura Prabhu Yīśu Masīha
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: inserting a possessive/connective that forces a two-referent split reading (would blunt the verse’s contribution to Christ’s deity)
Original: τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Christology
2 Thessalonians 1:12. A grammatical construction parallel to Titus 2:13 and 2 Peter 1:1 in which ‘our God and Lord’ may together identify a single referent, Jesus Christ. Must preserve, not resolve away, this grammatical ambiguity/identification. Theologian review required.
Stand Firm
Approved rendering: दृढ़ रहो
Transliteration: dṛḍha raho
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: στήκετε
Category: Tradition
2 Thessalonians 2:15 (στήκετε). Should echo धीरज (endurance, ch.1) vocabulary so the letter’s two central exhortations read as one unified appeal.
The Traditions
Approved rendering: परम्पराओं
Transliteration: paramparāoṃ
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Rejected alternatives: शिक्षाएँ (generic ‘teachings’ — avoids the collision but loses the technical ‘handed-down’ transmission sense)
Original: παραδόσεις
Category: Tradition
2 Thessalonians 2:15; 3:6 (παραδόσεις). Also the ordinary Hindi word for guru-paramparā — an open, ongoing human-teacher-succession authority structure fundamentally different from Paul’s closed, once-delivered apostolic deposit. Mandatory translator note on every occurrence tying it explicitly to 2:15’s ‘whether by word of mouth or by letter.’ Theologian review mandatory.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: सुसमाचार
Transliteration: susamācar
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: खुशखबरी, शुभ सन्देश
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. In 2 Thessalonians 1:8 and 2:14, obedience or belief toward this message determines final judgment or final glory. Established BSI OV term; do not use colloquial alternatives.
Grace
Approved rendering: अनुग्रह
Transliteration: anugraha
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: कृपा, दया, वरदान, भाग्य, कर्म-फल, पुण्य
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Opens and closes the letter (1:2; 3:18) and recurs at 2:16. Must convey unmerited favor apart from any human merit; कृपा permitted only in non-grace contexts.
Faith
Approved rendering: विश्वास
Transliteration: viśvāsa
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: श्रद्धा, आस्था, भरोसा
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies the new term lord_is_faithful (3:3), which applies the same root to God’s own faithfulness rather than human believing-trust. Object of faith must always be specified in context.
Glory
Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mahimā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: देव-ज्योति, प्रकाश
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Appears more densely in this short letter (1:9,12; 2:14; 3:1) than in comparable Romans passages of similar length.
Glorification
Approved rendering: महिमान्वित किया जाना
Transliteration: mahimānvita kiyā jānā
Doctrine: Glorification
Rejected alternatives: देवत्व प्राप्ति
Original: ἐνδοξάζομαι
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. Used at 1:10,12; 2:14. Deliberately contrasted with the man of lawlessness’s false self-exaltation (2:4) — must describe believers sharing Christ’s glory by grace, never Hindu-style divinization.
Called
Approved rendering: बुलाए हुए
Transliteration: bulāe hue
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: निमंत्रित, आमंत्रित
Inherited from Romans package. Context-sensitive; 2:14’s calling is through the gospel to obtain Christ’s glory.
Calling
Approved rendering: बुलाहट
Transliteration: bulāhaṭ
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: आह्वान
Original: κλῆσις / κλητός
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Used at 1:11; 2:14. Must signal sovereign, personal divine initiative, never karma-determined destiny.
Election
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का चुनाव
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā cunāva
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, नियति, किस्मत
Original: ἐκλογή (verb εἵλατο)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Used at 2:13 (εἵλατο); subject to the ἀπαρχή/ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς textual variant — record which base text is followed as a text-critical decision, not merely a translation decision.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: पवित्रीकरण
Transliteration: pavitrikaraṇa
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: सफाई, शुद्धिकरण
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. Paired with holy_spirit at 2:13.
Saints
Approved rendering: पवित्र जन
Transliteration: pavitra jana
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: संत, संतजन
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Used at 1:10.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य
Transliteration: Parameśvara kī sāmarthya
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: शक्ति, ताकत
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Used at 1:11. The same Hindi word सामर्थ्य is also applied, WITH a mandatory guardrail note, to Satan’s derivative counterfeit power at 2:9 (see false_signs_and_wonders) — Satan’s सामर्थ्य must never be read as co-equal with God’s own.
Works Of The Law
Approved rendering: व्यवस्था के काम
Transliteration: vyavasthā ke kāma
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: कर्म
Original: ἔργα νόμου (rule extended to ἔργον πίστεως)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. The काम-never-कर्म rule is extended to ἔργον πίστεως (‘work of faith,’ 1:11) — see work_of_faith.
Eternal Life
Approved rendering: अनन्त जीवन
Transliteration: ananta jīvana
Doctrine: Eschatology
Rejected alternatives: अमरता
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. Not directly attested in 2 Thessalonians, but this rendering is the deliberate structural antonym of the new term eternal_destruction (ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος, 1:9); both must remain final and non-cyclical.
Worship
Approved rendering: आराधना
Transliteration: ārādhanā
Doctrine: Worship
Rejected alternatives: पूजा
Inherited from Romans package. Reserved exclusively for TRUE worship of God; पूजा-vocabulary remains permitted only for false worship (see object_of_worship, 2:4).
Idolatry
Approved rendering: मूर्तिपूजा
Transliteration: mūrtipūjā
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Inherited from Romans package. Its acceptance of पूजा-vocabulary for false worship underlies the new object_of_worship (पूज्य वस्तु, 2:4) and false_god (देवता, 2:4) entries.
Wrath Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का क्रोध
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā krodha
Doctrine: Judgment
Rejected alternatives: बदला
Inherited from Romans package. The baseline’s ‘never बदला’ caution is extended throughout this book to vengeance (न्यायपूर्ण दण्ड, 1:8), repay_recompense (प्रतिफल देना, 1:6), and strong_delusion (भ्रम की सामर्थ्य, 2:11), the last of which is explicitly tied to the Romans 1:24-28 ‘God gave them over’ pattern.
Episynagoge
Approved rendering: उसके पास एकत्र होना
Transliteration: usake pāsa ekatra honā
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: सभा (collides with the ongoing congregational sense), मेला (trivializes a one-time eschatological event into a periodic festival)
Original: ἐπισυναγωγή
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:1. The eschatological gathering of believers to Christ at his coming, paired with parousia as the twin object of the Thessalonians’ confusion. Keep distinct from कलीसिया.
Enesteken
Approved rendering: आ चुका है
Transliteration: ā cukā hai
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: निकट है (blunts Paul’s actual argument that the false claim is the Day has ALREADY come, not merely is imminent)
Original: ἐνέστηκεν
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:2. Perfect tense: must render the completed-state force. Paul’s proof depends on this nuance: the Day cannot have already come because its precursor events have not occurred.
Son Of Destruction
Approved rendering: विनाश का पुत्र
Transliteration: vināśa kā putra
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: नाश का पुत्र (acceptable synonym, not adopted as primary to keep consistency)
Original: ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:3. Hebraic idiom ‘son of X’ = one destined for/characterized by X (cf. Judas, John 17:12). Must not be confused with the baseline Critical परमेश्वर का पुत्र (Son of God) — translator note required distinguishing the two ‘son of ___’ constructions.
False God
Approved rendering: देवता
Transliteration: devatā
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: झूठा परमेश्वर (risks collocating with the reserved Critical परमेश्वर term even in negation)
Original: λεγόμενος θεός
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:4 (λεγόμενος θεός, ‘what is called/termed a god’). Render देवता (the natural Hindi term for the many gods of Hindu devotion); NEVER परमेश्वर.
Mystery Of Lawlessness
Approved rendering: अधर्म का भेद
Transliteration: adharma kā bheda
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: τὸ μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:7. Reuses baseline भेद exactly; carries the same अधर्म-collision caution documented at man_of_lawlessness.
Breath Of His Mouth
Approved rendering: उसके मुख की श्वास
Transliteration: usake mukha kī śvāsa
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: आत्मा unqualified (would wrongly suggest the Holy Spirit personally slays the lawless one)
Original: τῷ πνεύματι τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:8. Allusion to Isaiah 11:4. πνεῦμα here means literal breath, NOT the Holy Spirit — mandatory disambiguation note on every occurrence.
Working Of Satan
Approved rendering: शैतान की क्रियाशीलता
Transliteration: śaitāna kī kriyāśīlatā
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: κατ᾽ ἐνέργειαν τοῦ Σατανᾶ
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:9 (κατ’ ἐνέργειαν τοῦ Σατανᾶ). Mandatory guardrail note: Satan’s power is derivative and permitted by God, never co-equal — avoid drift toward dualistic ‘God versus equally-matched Satan’ cosmology.
False Signs And Wonders
Approved rendering: झूठ की सेवा में सामर्थ्य, चिन्ह और अद्भुत काम
Transliteration: jhūṭha kī sevā meṃ sāmarthya, cinha aura adbhuta kāma
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: πάσῃ δυνάμει καὶ σημείοις καὶ τέρασιν ψεύδους
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:9. The baseline सामर्थ्य rule protects God’s power from Shakti-associations; applying it to Satan’s counterfeit power requires an explicit note that this is derivative, permitted, temporary power. Relevant to claimed चमत्कार performed by godmen; must warn against real deceptive power, not imply blanket fraud.
Deception Of Unrighteousness
Approved rendering: अधार्मिकता का छल
Transliteration: adhārmikatā kā chala
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἐν πάσῃ ἀπάτῃ ἀδικίας
Category: Judgment
2 Thessalonians 2:10 (ἐν πάσῃ ἀπάτῃ ἀδικίας). अधार्मिकता built transparently on the baseline धार्मिकता root as its direct antonym.
Those Who Are Perishing
Approved rendering: नाश होनेवाले लोग
Transliteration: nāśa honevāle loga
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: τοῖς ἀπολλυμένοις
Category: Judgment
2 Thessalonians 2:10 (τοῖς ἀπολλυμένοις). Word-family link to ‘son of destruction’ (2:3); antonym pairing with salvation/eternal_life word-families.
Truth
Approved rendering: सच्चाई
Transliteration: saccāī
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: सत्य (deep Sanskrit/Vedantic loading — Satya as ultimate cosmic reality; Gandhian Satyagraha — would import an unwanted metaphysical framework)
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Salvation
2 Thessalonians 2:10,12,13 (ἀλήθεια). सत्य is absolutely forbidden for this term throughout the letter.
Judged Condemned
Approved rendering: दोषी ठहराए जाएँ
Transliteration: doṣī ṭaharāe jāeṃ
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: κριθῶσιν
Category: Judgment

Endurance Perseverance
Approved rendering: धीरज
Transliteration: dhīraja
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: सहनशीलता (suggests passive stoic tolerance rather than hopeful, forward-looking endurance)
Original: ὑπομονή
Category: Perseverance
2 Thessalonians 1:4 (ὑπομονή). Must be distinguished from fatalistic ‘enduring one’s karma’ — biblical endurance is hopeful, forward-looking to vindication at Christ’s coming.
Persecutions
Approved rendering: सताव
Transliteration: satāva
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: διωγμοί
Category: Perseverance
2 Thessalonians 1:4 (διωγμοί). Paired consistently with क्लेश.
Afflictions
Approved rendering: क्लेश
Transliteration: kleśa
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: θλῖψις
Category: Perseverance
2 Thessalonians 1:4,6,7 (θλῖψις). Also the technical ‘five kleshas’ of Patanjali’s Yoga philosophy — inner obstacles overcome by self-effort. Translator note required distinguishing externally inflicted suffering met with God-given endurance from the yogic kleshas.
Repay Recompense
Approved rendering: प्रतिफल देना
Transliteration: pratiphala denā
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: बदला देना (personal-vengeance connotation, forbidden per the baseline wrath_of_god caution)
Original: ἀνταποδοῦναι
Category: Judgment
2 Thessalonians 1:6 (ἀνταποδοῦναι). God’s just, proportionate repayment, without a vindictive tone.
Vengeance
Approved rendering: न्यायपूर्ण दण्ड
Transliteration: nyāyapūrṇa daṇḍa
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: बदला (forbidden per the baseline wrath_of_god caution)
Original: ἐκδίκησις
Category: Judgment
2 Thessalonians 1:8 (ἐκδίκησις). Righteous, judicial retribution, consistent with 1:5-6’s δικαία κρίσις.
Work Of Faith
Approved rendering: विश्वास का काम
Transliteration: viśvāsa kā kāma
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: कर्म (forbidden per the baseline works_of_the_law rule — imports merit-accumulation cosmology)
Original: ἔργον πίστεως
Category: Perseverance
2 Thessalonians 1:11 (ἔργον πίστεως). Uses काम, never कर्म. Flows FROM faith as its fruit, paralleling the baseline faith_working_through_love logic.
Walking In Idleness
Approved rendering: अनुशासनहीनता से चलनेवाला
Transliteration: anuśāsanahīnatā se calanevālā
Doctrine: Diligence in Work and Christian Conduct
Rejected alternatives: आलसी (too narrow — ‘lazy’ loses the disorderly-conduct sense)
Original: ἀτάκτως περιπατοῦντος
Category: Tradition
2 Thessalonians 3:6,11 (ἀτάκτως περιπατοῦντος). CULTURAL COLLISION: voluntary renunciation of settled labor (sādhus, sannyāsīs living on alms) is a deeply honored religious vocation in India, not a social problem. Must be read narrowly: willful work-refusal tied to false eschatological urgency (2:2). Native speaker and theologian review recommended.
Work Maxim
Approved rendering: जो काम करना नहीं चाहता, वह खाए भी नहीं
Transliteration: jo kāma karanā nahīṃ cāhatā, vaha khāe bhī nahīṃ
Doctrine: Diligence in Work and Christian Conduct
Original: εἴ τις οὐ θέλει ἐργάζεσθαι, μηδὲ ἐσθιέτω
Category: Tradition
2 Thessalonians 3:10. Restrict strictly to willful refusal (θέλει), never applied to those unable to work. Historically weaponized maxim requiring mandatory pastoral framing.
Have Nothing To Do With
Approved rendering: मेल-जोल न रखो
Transliteration: mela-jola na rakho
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Restoration
Rejected alternatives: उसे बहिष्कृत करो (stronger ‘boycott/ostracize’ — resonates too strongly with caste-based social ostracism, historically permanent and punitive)
Original: μὴ συναναμίγνυσθαι
Category: Church
2 Thessalonians 3:14 (μὴ συναναμίγνυσθαι). CULTURAL COLLISION with caste-based social exclusion. A limited, corrective, restoration-aimed discipline, immediately qualified as ‘not as an enemy, but as a brother’ (3:15). Mandatory translator note; native speaker and theologian review recommended.
Claimed Spirit Utterance
Approved rendering: आत्मा के द्वारा कहा हुआ वचन
Transliteration: ātmā ke dvārā kahā huā vacana
Doctrine: Sanctification by the Spirit
Original: πνεῦμα (lowercase, 2:2)
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:2 (πνεῦμα, lowercase). A claimed prophetic/spirit-inspired oral message circulating among the Thessalonians, NOT the Holy Spirit’s own voice — the false report Paul corrects. Must be sharply disambiguated from पवित्र आत्मा with a translator note on every occurrence.
Medium Risk Terms
Peace
Approved rendering: शांति
Transliteration: śānti
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: चैन, सुकून
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. At 3:16 combines with lord as ‘Lord of peace’ (शान्ति का प्रभु). Relational, covenantal peace; distinguish from meditative/Yogic inner calm.
Church
Approved rendering: कलीसिया
Transliteration: kalīsiyā
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: मंदिर, गिरजाघर
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Used at 1:1,4. Never मंदिर, which is reserved as the ordinary term but flagged for false collision at temple_of_god (2:4).
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का राज्य
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā rājya
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वर का राष्ट्र
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package. 1:5 names present suffering for it as evidence of being counted worthy of it.
Mystery
Approved rendering: भेद
Transliteration: bheda
Doctrine: Revelation
Rejected alternatives: रहस्य
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Revelation
Inherited from Romans package. Combines with lawlessness at 2:7 as mystery_of_lawlessness — a now-secretly-active, not-yet-fully-manifest evil, not esoteric hidden knowledge.
Firstfruits
Approved rendering: पहले फल
Transliteration: pahale phala
Doctrine: Holy Spirit
Original: ἀπαρχή
Category: Holy Spirit
Inherited from Romans package. Applies at 2:13 IF the ἀπαρχή textual reading is followed rather than the ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς (‘from the beginning’) variant; record which base text is followed in Phase 2.
Brotherly Love
Approved rendering: भाईचारे का प्रेम
Transliteration: bhāīcāre kā prema
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Original: ἀδελφοί
Category: Mutual Edification

Transliteration: prerita
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: दूत, संदेशवाहक

Approved rendering: विरोधी
Transliteration: virodhī
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ ἀντικείμενος
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:4 (ὁ ἀντικείμενος). The one lying opposite, the opponent; used elsewhere of Satan (1 Timothy 5:14).
Object Of Worship
Approved rendering: पूज्य वस्तु
Transliteration: pūjya vastu
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: σέβασμα
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:4 (σέβασμα). An object of reverence/veneration (cf. Acts 17:23). Consistent with the baseline idolatry entry’s acceptance of पूजा-vocabulary reserved for false worship.
Appointed Time
Approved rendering: ठहराया हुआ समय
Transliteration: ṭhaharāyā huā samaya
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: समय (bare — loses the sense of a personally fixed moment, risks a fatalistic/cyclical kāla-cakra reading)
Original: καιρός
Category: Eschatology
2 Thessalonians 2:6 (καιρός). God’s own sovereignly-appointed, fitting moment — contrast with cyclical/fatalistic time concepts.
Already At Work
Approved rendering: पहले से ही कार्य कर रहा है
Transliteration: pahale se hī kārya kara rahā hai
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
