Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Malachi
English → Hindi | Consolidated term glossary, Malachi 1–4 (core passage: Malachi 3:1–4)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md. Terms marked [Baseline reuse] are already established in the Romans/Galatians translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json and MUST be rendered exactly as recorded there. All other terms are [New — Malachi] entries proposed for addition to the Language Package’s translation memory, pending the same theologian/native-speaker review routing used in the baseline.

New Terms Proposed for This Curriculum
| Term ID | English gloss | Hebrew (translit.) | LXX Greek (translit.) | Hindi rendering | Transliteration | Doctrine | Risk | Alternatives rejected | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
yhwh_lord_of_hosts | LORD (YHWH) / LORD of hosts | יְהוָה / יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת (YHWH / YHWH Tseva’ot) | κύριος / κύριος παντοκράτωρ (kyrios / kyrios pantokratōr) | यहोवा / सेनाओं का यहोवा | Yahowā / senāoṃ kā Yahowā | God’s Unchanging Love; all five curriculum doctrines (recurring divine self-identification formula) | Critical | परमेश्वर (too generic; loses the proper-name specificity of the Tetragrammaton and would erase the אָדוֹן/יהוה distinction in 3:1); प्रभु (reserved by baseline for Adonai/Kyrios contexts, especially Messianic Lordship) | New proper-name term extending the baseline’s OT-name handling. Occurs ~24 times as “says the LORD of hosts” (נְאֻם־יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת). Must remain visually/lexically distinct from प्रभु (§0 of the semantic analysis explains the rationale) and from परमेश्वर (generic Elohim/God title). Every occurrence flagged for theologian review given the divine-name stakes. |
messenger | messenger (mal’akh) | מַלְאָךְ / מַלְאָכִי (mal’akh / mal’akhi) | ἄγγελος (angelos) | दूत | dūta | The Coming Messenger and the Day of the LORD | High | स्वर्गदूत (over-specifies an angelic being; the NT fulfillment, John the Baptist, is human); संदेशवाहक (baseline already rejected this for apostle; avoid reusing here to prevent register confusion) | Wordplay with the prophet’s own name (Malachi = “my messenger”). Applies to 1:1’s implicit authorial self-naming, 2:7’s priest-as-messenger, and 3:1’s eschatological forerunner. Keep दूत consistent across all three senses; distinguish sense by context note, not by lexical variation. |
messenger_of_the_covenant | messenger of the covenant | מַלְאַךְ הַבְּרִית (mal’akh haberit) | ἄγγελος διαθήκης (angelos diathēkēs) | वाचा का दूत | vācā kā dūta | The Coming Messenger and the Day of the LORD; Sonship/Deity of Christ | Critical | — | Compound of messenger (दूत) + baseline covenant (वाचा). Likely identifies the same figure as “the LORD” earlier in 3:1 — Messianic. Mandatory theologian review. |
burden_oracle | the burden / oracle | מַשָּׂא (massa) | λῆμμα (lēmma) | भारी वचन | bhārī vacana | Inspiration/authority of prophetic Scripture (adjacent to baseline fulfillment_of_prophecy) | Medium | संदेश (too weak — loses the “heavy, compelled utterance” force) | Book’s superscription term, 1:1. |
gods_covenant_love | I have loved you | אָהַבְתִּי אֶתְכֶם (ahavti etkhem) | ἠγάπησα ὑμᾶς (ēgapēsa hymas) | मैंने तुम से प्रेम किया है | maiṃne tuma se prema kiyā hai | God’s Unchanging Love for His People | High | अनुग्रह-only framing (grace and covenant love are related but not identical; do not collapse this term into the baseline grace entry) | Grounding verse of the whole book, 1:2. |
election_love_hate_idiom | Jacob I loved, Esau I hated | אֶת־יַעֲקֹב… וְאֶת־עֵשָׂו שָׂנֵאתִי (et-Ya’akov… ve’et-Esav saneti) | τὸν δὲ Ησαυ ἐμίσησα (ton de Ēsau emisēsa) | याकूब से मैंने प्रेम किया, परन्तु एसाव से बैर रखा | Yākūba se maiṃne prema kiyā, parantu Esāva se baira rakhā | God’s Unchanging Love for His People; Election (baseline election = परमेश्वर का चुनाव) | Critical | घृणा की (risks reading as capricious emotional hatred rather than the Semitic covenantal-election idiom) | Verbatim quoted at Romans 9:13; mandatory cross-check against Romans package rendering; mandatory translator note on the Hebrew “love/hate” election idiom. |
priest | priest(s) | כֹּהֵן / כֹּהֲנִים (kohen / kohanim) | ἱερεύς / ἱερεῖς (hiereus / hiereis) | याजक | yājaka | Corrupt Worship and a Broken Covenant | Medium | पुजारी (Hindu temple-priest connotation) | Established Hindi Christian/Bible term; 1:6–2:9 passim. |
cultic_offering | offering / tribute (minchah) | מִנְחָה (minchah) | θυσία / δῶρον (thysia / dōron) | भेंट | bheṇṭa | Corrupt Worship and a Broken Covenant; Faithfulness in Tithing | Medium | यज्ञ, बलि (Hindu ritual-offering vocabulary; forbidden per baseline living_sacrifice logic) | General cultic gift term; reserve बलिदान for animal-sacrifice-specific contexts, consistent with baseline living_sacrifice. |
blemished_offering | polluted/blemished offering | לֶחֶם מְגֹאָל (lechem megoal) | ἄρτους ἠλισγημένους (artous ēlisgēmenous) | अशुद्ध भेंट | aśuddha bheṇṭa | Corrupt Worship and a Broken Covenant | Medium | — | Legitimate ritual-impurity context (1:7–8); unlike baseline’s general caution against अशुद्धता for moral sin, here the ritual-purity sense is exegetically correct. |
table_of_the_lord | the table of the LORD | שֻׁלְחָן יְהוָה (shulchan Yahowah) | τράπεζα κυρίου (trapeza kyriou) | यहोवा की मेज़ | Yahowā kī meza | Corrupt Worship and a Broken Covenant | Medium | — | 1:7,12; potential future cross-reference to 1 Corinthians 10:21 if processed. |
great_king | great King | מֶלֶךְ גָּדוֹל (melekh gadol) | βασιλεὺς μέγας (basileus megas) | महान राजा | mahāna rājā | God’s Unchanging Love (God’s universal sovereignty); adjacent to baseline kingdom_of_god | Medium | — | 1:14; keep distinct from kingship_of_jesus (यीशु का राजत्व), which is Christ-specific in the baseline. |
levi_proper_name | Levi | לֵוִי (Levi) | Λευί (Leui) | लेवी | Levī | Corrupt Worship and a Broken Covenant | Low | — | Proper name/tribe; 2:4,8; 3:3. |
marital_treachery | deal treacherously / betray | בָּגַד (bagad) | καταφρονεῖ (kataphronei) | विश्वासघात करना | viśvāsaghāta karanā | Faithfulness in Tithing and Marriage | High | बेवफाई (too casual/secular register) | Used structurally parallel of both idolatrous covenant-breaking (2:10–11) and marital betrayal (2:14–16); keep terminology consistent across both to preserve Malachi’s own argument. |
wife_of_covenant | wife of your covenant / of your youth | אֵשֶׁת בְּרִיתֶךָ / אֵשֶׁת נְעוּרֶיךָ (esheth beritekha / esheth ne’urekha) | γυναῖκα διαθήκης σου (gynaika diathēkēs sou) | तेरी वाचा की पत्नी | terī vācā kī patnī | Faithfulness in Tithing and Marriage | High | — | Marriage explicitly framed as covenant (वाचा), witnessed by God; 2:14. |
divorce | divorce / put away | שִׁלֵּח / כְּרִיתוּת (shalach / kritut) | ἐξαποστείλῃς (exaposteilēs) | त्याग देना / तलाक | tyāga denā / talāqa | Faithfulness in Tithing and Marriage | High | — | Textually disputed Hebrew (2:16); flag for combined native speaker and theologian review before finalizing register (talāq carries Islamic-legal-procedure connotation in Hindi/Urdu registers — verify acceptability with native reviewers; त्याग देना is the safer default). |
one_father_one_god | one Father / one God | אָב אֶחָד / אֵל אֶחָד (av echad / el echad) | πατὴρ εἷς… θεὸς εἷς (patēr heis… theos heis) | एक पिता…एक परमेश्वर | eka pitā…eka Parameśvara | Faithfulness in Tithing and Marriage (grounding of interpersonal covenant faithfulness) | Medium | — | 2:10; distinct in force from baseline unity_of_jews_and_gentiles — do not conflate. |
return_to_me | return to me, and I will return to you | שׁוּבוּ אֵלַי וְאָשׁוּבָה אֲלֵיכֶם (shuvu elai ve’ashuvah aleikhem) | ἐπιστράφητε πρός με (epistraphēte pros me) | मेरी ओर फिरो, तो मैं तुम्हारी ओर फिरूँगा | merī ora phiro, to maiṃ tumhārī ora phirūṃgā | The Call to Repentance before the Great Day | High | — | 3:7; root shared with baseline repentance (मन फिराव); relational, not transactional, restoration. |
rob_god | rob (God) | קָבַע (qava) | πτερνίζει (pternizei) | लूटना | lūṭanā | Faithfulness in Tithing and Marriage | High | धोखा देना (too weak; loses the “theft” force) | 3:8–9; rhetorical shock term. |
tithe | tithe | מַעְשֵׂר (ma’aser) | ἐπιδέκατα (epidekata) | दशमांश | daśamāṃśa | Faithfulness in Tithing and Marriage | High | दान (too generic/voluntary; loses the covenantal-proportion specificity) | 3:8,10; guard against merit-transaction framing per baseline works_of_the_law logic. |
windows_of_heaven | windows of heaven | אֲרֻבּוֹת הַשָּׁמַיִם (arubot hashamayim) | καταρράκτας τοῦ οὐρανοῦ (katarraktas tou ouranou) | आकाश की खिड़कियाँ | ākāśa kī khiḍakiyāṃ | Faithfulness in Tithing and Marriage | Medium | — | 3:10; keep concrete metaphor, do not abstract. |
book_of_remembrance | book of remembrance | סֵפֶר זִכָּרוֹן (sefer zikaron) | βιβλίον μνημοσύνου (biblion mnēmosynou) | स्मरण की पुस्तक | smaraṇa kī pustaka | The Call to Repentance before the Great Day | Medium | कर्म-पुस्तक (would import karma-ledger cosmology) | 3:16; personal-God record-keeping, not impersonal cosmic accounting. |
fear_of_the_lord | those who fear the LORD | יִרְאֵי יְהוָה (yirei Yahowah) | οἱ φοβούμενοι τὸν κύριον (hoi phoboumenoi ton kyrion) | यहोवा का भय मानने वाले | Yahowā kā bhaya mānane vāle | The Call to Repentance before the Great Day | Medium | भक्त (too generic-devotional; loses the covenantal/relational specificity of यहोवा as object) | 3:16; reverent covenant piety, not terror. |
refiners_fire | refiner’s fire | אֵש מְצָרֵף (esh metsaref) | πῦρ χωνευτηρίου (pyr chōneutēriou) | परिष्कृत करने वाली आग | pariṣkṛta karane vālī āga | Corrupt Worship and a Broken Covenant; Day of the LORD (purifying, not destructive) | High | — | 3:2; keep distinct from the destructive “oven” fire of 4:1. |
fullers_soap | fullers’ soap | בֹּרִית מְכַבְּסִים (borit mekhabsim) | πόα πλυνόντων (poa plynontōn) | धोबी का साबुन | dhobī kā sābuna | Corrupt Worship and a Broken Covenant | Medium | — | 3:2; complementary purification image. |
purify_sons_of_levi | purify the sons of Levi | וְטִהַר אֶת־בְּנֵי־לֵוִי (vetihar et-bene-Levi) | καθαρίσει τοὺς υἱοὺς Λευί (katharisei tous huious Leui) | लेवी के वंशजों को शुद्ध करेगा | Levī ke vaṃśajoṃ ko śuddha karegā | Corrupt Worship and a Broken Covenant | High | — | 3:3; adjacent to but distinct from baseline sanctification (general believer holiness) — here specifically priestly purification. |
offering_in_righteousness | offering(s) in righteousness | מִנְחָה בִּצְדָקָה (minchah bitsdaqah) | θυσία ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ (thysia en dikaiosynē) | धार्मिकता में भेंट | dhārmikatā meṃ bheṇṭa | Faithfulness in Tithing and Marriage; Corrupt Worship and a Broken Covenant | Critical | धर्म में भेंट (forbidden — धर्म never substitutes for धार्मिकता, per baseline standing rule) | 3:3; combines baseline righteousness with new cultic_offering term. |
sun_of_righteousness | sun of righteousness | שֶׁמֶש צְדָקָה (shemesh tsedaqah) | ἥλιος δικαιοσύνης (hēlios dikaiosynēs) | धार्मिकता का सूर्य | dhārmikatā kā sūrya | The Coming Messenger and the Day of the LORD; Deity/Sonship of Christ (Messianic reading) | Critical | ज्योति/प्रकाश-based renderings (would intensify, not mitigate, the light/divine-radiance collision the baseline already flags under glory and armor_of_light) | 4:2. This curriculum’s single highest religious-collision term, given India’s Surya (sun-deity) worship traditions. Mandatory translator note distinguishing this poetic Messianic image from solar deity worship. Every occurrence requires theologian review. |
day_of_the_lord_malachi | the day is coming / day of the LORD | הִנֵּה הַיּוֹם בָּא / יוֹם בֹּאוֹ (hinneh hayom ba / yom bo’o) | ἰδοὺ ἡμέρα κυρίου ἔρχεται (idou hēmera kyriou erchetai) | यहोवा का दिन आ रहा है | Yahowā kā dina ā rahā hai | The Coming Messenger and the Day of the LORD | Critical | — | 3:2, 4:1; must consistently incorporate the यहोवा proper-name decision (§0 of the semantic analysis). |
oven_of_judgment | burning like an oven | בֹּעֵר כַּתַּנּוּר (bo’er katanur) | καιόμενος ὡς κλίβανος (kaiomenos hōs klibanos) | भट्टी के समान जलता हुआ | bhaṭṭī ke samāna jalatā huā | The Coming Messenger and the Day of the LORD | High | — | 4:1; keep distinct from the purifying refiners_fire. |
healing_in_wings | healing in its wings | מַרְפֵּא בִּכְנָפֶיהָ (marpe bikhnafeha) | ἴασις ἐν ταῖς πτέρυγιν αὐτοῦ (iasis en tais pterygin autou) | उसके पंखों में आरोग्यता | usake paṅkhoṃ meṃ ārogyatā | The Coming Messenger and the Day of the LORD | Medium | — | 4:2; balances judgment with restoration. |
elijah_the_prophet | Elijah the prophet | אֵלִיָּהוּ הַנָּבִיא (Eliyahu hanavi) | Ηλίας ὁ Θεσβίτης (Ēlias ho Thesbitēs) | एलिय्याह भविष्यद्वक्ता | Eliyyāha bhaviṣyadvaktā | The Coming Messenger and the Day of the LORD | High | — | 4:5; typologically fulfilled in John the Baptist (Luke 1:17). Cross-reference with messenger (3:1) mandatory. |
turn_hearts_of_fathers | turn the hearts of fathers to children | וְהֵשִׁיב לֵב־אָבוֹת עַל־בָּנִים (veheshiv lev-avot al-banim) | ἀποκαταστήσει καρδίαν πατρὸς πρὸς υἱόν (apokatastēsei kardian patros pros huion) | पितरों के मन को उनकी सन्तान की ओर फेरना | pitaroṃ ke mana ko unakī santāna kī ora pheranā | The Coming Messenger and the Day of the LORD | Medium | — | 4:6; distinct from baseline reconciliation (Godward) — this is intra-family. |
cherem_curse | curse (utter destruction) | חֵרֶם (cherem) | ἄρδην (ardēn) | सर्वनाश / अभिशाप | sarvanāśa / abhiśāpa | The Coming Messenger and the Day of the LORD | High | श्राप-only (would wrongly conflate with the baseline Galatians curse entry’s distinct judicial-covenant-curse doctrine without a distinguishing note) | 4:6; do not merge with the baseline curse entry without an explicit translator note distinguishing חֵרֶם (total ban/destruction) from קְלָלָה/κατάρα (judicial covenant-curse). |
Risk Summary for This Curriculum
| Risk | Count | Review routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 8 | Human theologian (every occurrence) |
| High | 13 | Human theologian |
| Medium | 12 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 2 | Automated review |
Critical-risk terms: yhwh_lord_of_hosts, messenger_of_the_covenant, election_love_hate_idiom, offering_in_righteousness, sun_of_righteousness, day_of_the_lord_malachi, plus the two baseline reuses elevated by context: lord (प्रभु, Messianic reading of Malachi 3:1) and righteousness (धार्मिकता, as it recurs in both 3:3 and 4:2).
Mandatory cross-curriculum checks before Phase 2 finalization:
- Malachi 1:2–3 against the Romans 9:13 quotation.
- Malachi 3:1 against Matthew 11:10 / Mark 1:2 / Luke 7:27 (if/when those curricula are processed).
- Malachi 4:5–6 against Luke 1:17.
- The
cherem_curseterm against the Galatians-packagecurse/atonement_curse_bearingentries, to keep the two Hebrew concepts distinguishable.
This document is Phase 1 Step 1 output, paired with 07_semantic_analysis.md. All new terms listed here are proposed additions to the Language Package’s translation_memory.json, pending theologian/native-speaker review per the baseline’s escalation rules.
Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: धार्मिकता
Transliteration: dhārmikatā
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, पुण्य, न्याय
Original: צְדָקָה
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: Never धर्म. Malachi extension: governs two Critical compound terms unique to this book — offering_in_righteousness (3:3) and sun_of_righteousness (4:2). Any drift toward धर्म in either compound collapses Malachi’s contrast between corrupt duty-based worship and worship flowing from a right standing before God.
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: Prabhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: स्वामी, ईश्वर
Original: הָאָדוֹן / κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Exclusive, supreme Lordship. Malachi extension: renders הָאָדוֹן at Malachi 3:1, the coming divine visitor NT tradition applies to Christ (Matthew 11:10; Mark 1:2; Luke 7:27). CRITICAL — must never be interchanged with यहोवा (the Tetragrammaton) even though both occur within this same verse; English ‘LORD’/‘Lord’ capitalization conventions obscure that these are two distinguishable Hebrew referring expressions.
God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर
Transliteration: Parameśvara
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वर, भगवान
Original: אֱלֹהִים
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Preferred over ईश्वर for doctrinal precision; भगवान avoided (broad Hindu deity usage). Malachi extension: renders אֱלֹהִים throughout Malachi. Must remain lexically distinct from यहोवा (the personal covenant name, used ~24 times in this book’s ‘says the LORD of hosts’ formula) — Malachi’s argument frequently trades on the personal, covenantal specificity of יהוה rather than the generic divine title.
Father
Approved rendering: पिता
Transliteration: Pitā
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: ब्रह्मा, सृष्टिकर्ता
Inherited from Romans package. God as personal Father; never Hindu creator-deity names. Malachi extension: Malachi 1:6 and 2:10 use פִיתא/אָב in a distinct but related sense — shared creaturely fatherhood grounding interpersonal covenant fidelity (‘have we not all one father?’) — rather than the Romans adoption-into-sonship doctrine specifically. Keep both senses distinguishable in accompanying notes; do not conflate one_father_one_god with the baseline adoption doctrine.
Atonement Curse Bearing
Approved rendering: मसीह ने हमारे लिये श्रापित बनकर हमें व्यवस्था के श्राप से छुड़ाया
Transliteration: Masīha ne hamāre liye śrāpita banakara hameṃ vyavasthā ke śrāpa se chuṛāyā
Doctrine: Atonement
Inherited from Galatians addition to the Romans package. Christ’s substitutionary curse-bearing (Galatians 3:13). Malachi extension: retained here only for cross-reference discipline — Malachi never uses this Christological formula directly, but its presence in the shared Language Package is why cherem_curse (4:6) requires an explicit distinguishing note rather than silent reuse of this vocabulary.
Yhwh Lord Of Hosts
Approved rendering: यहोवा / सेनाओं का यहोवा
Transliteration: Yahowā / senāoṃ kā Yahowā
Doctrine: The Divine Name — YHWH of Hosts
Rejected alternatives: परमेश्वर (too generic; erases the Tetragrammaton’s proper-name specificity and the אָדוֹן/יהוה distinction in 3:1), प्रभु (reserved for Adonai/Kyrios titles, especially Messianic Lordship)
Original: יְהוָה / יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת
Category: God
New — Malachi. The personal covenant name (Tetragrammaton) plus the epithet ‘of hosts,’ recurring in the self-identification formula ‘says the LORD of hosts’ over 20 times across the book. Must remain visually/lexically distinct from प्रभु and परमेश्वर in every one of these occurrences without exception. Every occurrence requires human theologian review given the divine-name stakes.
Messenger Of The Covenant
Approved rendering: वाचा का दूत
Transliteration: vācā kā dūta
Doctrine: The Coming Messenger
Original: מַלְאַךְ הַבְּרִית
Category: Christology
New — Malachi. Compound of दूत + covenant (वाचा). Likely identifies the same figure as ‘the LORD’ earlier in Malachi 3:1 — a Messianic self-disclosure. The covenant genitive must stay grammatically attached so the figure reads as the covenant’s own enforcing agent, not a subordinate errand-carrier resembling messenger-figures in Hindu narrative tradition. Mandatory theologian review every occurrence.
Election Love Hate Idiom
Approved rendering: याकूब से मैंने प्रेम किया, परन्तु एसाव से बैर रखा
Transliteration: Yākūba se maiṃne prema kiyā, parantu Esāva se baira rakhā
Doctrine: Divine Election (Jacob and Esau)
Rejected alternatives: घृणा की (risks capricious emotional hatred rather than the Semitic covenantal-election idiom)
Original: אֶת־יַעֲקֹב אָהַבְתִּי וְאֶת־עֵשָׂו שָׂנֵאתִי
Category: God
New — Malachi. Verbatim quoted at Romans 9:13. Mandatory translator note on every occurrence explaining the Hebrew idiom of relative covenantal election (cf. Genesis 29:31-33’s use of the same idiom for Leah/Rachel) — must not be heard as capricious divine favoritism resembling boons/curses in popular Hindu narrative, nor as personal damnation of Esau’s descendants rather than non-selection of a covenant line. Cross-check rendering against the Romans 9:13 citation.
Offering In Righteousness
Approved rendering: धार्मिकता में भेंट
Transliteration: dhārmikatā meṃ bheṇṭa
Doctrine: Messianic Purification of the Priesthood (Core Passage)
Rejected alternatives: धर्म में भेंट (forbidden — धर्म never substitutes for धार्मिकता per the standing baseline prohibition)
Original: מִנְחָה בִּצְדָקָה
Category: Worship
New — Malachi. Core passage, Malachi 3:3. Offerings rendered from a right standing before God, made possible only after the priesthood’s purification — not offerings performed as religious duty. धर्म में भेंट would flatten Malachi’s contrast between corrupt duty-driven worship (chs. 1-2) and purified worship (3:3-4).
Sun Of Righteousness
Approved rendering: धार्मिकता का सूर्य
Transliteration: dhārmikatā kā sūrya
Doctrine: The Sun of Righteousness and Its Healing
Rejected alternatives: ज्योति/प्रकाश-based renderings (would intensify, not mitigate, the light/divine-radiance collision)
Original: שֶׁמֶש צְדָקָה
Category: Eschatology
New — Malachi. This curriculum’s single highest religious-collision term (4:2), given India’s living Surya (sun-deity) worship traditions — सूर्य is a directly named object of Hindu worship, not merely a light-metaphor. Mandatory translator note on every occurrence distinguishing this poetic Messianic dawn-image from solar deity identification or divine-light-absorption imagery. Human theologian review required every occurrence.
Day Of The Lord Malachi
Approved rendering: यहोवा का दिन आ रहा है
Transliteration: Yahowā kā dina ā rahā hai
Doctrine: The Day of the LORD
Original: הִנֵּה הַיּוֹם בָּא / יוֹם בֹּאוֹ
Category: Eschatology
New — Malachi. The climactic day of divine judgment/vindication (3:2; 4:1), anchored to यहोवा (not generic परमेश्वर) to preserve rootedness in this book’s specific covenant-lawsuit argument.
High Risk Terms
Covenant
Approved rendering: वाचा
Transliteration: vācā
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: अनुबंध, समझौता
Original: בְּרִית
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Relational covenant bond; more than a legal contract. Established in BSI OV. Malachi extension: this single Hindi term must remain identical across three distinct covenant applications in Malachi — the Levitical covenant (2:4-8), the ancestral/national covenant (2:10), and the marriage covenant (2:14) — and again at ‘the messenger of the covenant’ (3:1), so Malachi’s own deliberate structural parallel across these relationships stays visible in Hindi.
Law
Approved rendering: व्यवस्था
Transliteration: vyavasthā
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, शरीयत, नियम
Original: תּוֹרָה
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Torah/Mosaic law. NEVER use धर्म. Malachi extension: governs the priesthood’s teaching failure (2:6-9) and ‘the law of Moses’ at the book’s close (4:4); no new decision required, reused exactly.
Repentance
Approved rendering: मन फिराव
Transliteration: mana phirāva
Doctrine: Repentance
Rejected alternatives: पश्चाताप
Original: שׁוּב
Category: Repentance
Inherited from Romans package. Turning of the whole mind/life toward God, not mere remorse or penance. Malachi extension: underlies the root idea of שׁוב (‘turn/return’) at 3:7; the reciprocal formula itself is recorded separately as return_to_me.
Election
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का चुनाव
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā cunāva
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, नियति, किस्मत
Inherited from Romans package. God’s sovereign personal choice; never karma-determined fate. Malachi extension: this is the doctrinal category header for Malachi 1:2-3’s love/hate idiom, but the specific verse itself must use the dedicated term election_love_hate_idiom (elevated to Critical), not a paraphrase into this general term — verbatim-quoted at Romans 9:13.
Curse
Approved rendering: श्राप / श्रापित
Transliteration: śrāpa / śrāpita
Doctrine: Atonement
Inherited from Galatians addition to the Romans package. Renders κατάρα (Deuteronomy 27:26/21:23), a judicial covenant-curse category. Malachi extension: MUST NOT be silently merged with Malachi’s own cherem_curse (חֵרֶם, 4:6), a textually distinct Hebrew category of total ban/destruction. If श्राप-family vocabulary is used for either term, a translator note must state which of the two distinct categories is in view.
Anathema
Approved rendering: शापित हो
Transliteration: śāpita ho
Doctrine: Gospel
Inherited from Galatians addition to the Romans package. God’s judicial curse-sentence (ἀνάθεμα), distinct from liftable ritual curse-magic. Malachi extension: part of the same curse-family cross-curriculum fence as curse and cherem_curse; keep all three distinguishable with translator notes wherever more than one appears in shared study material.
Idolatry
Approved rendering: मूर्तिपूजा
Transliteration: mūrtipūjā
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Inherited from Romans package. Handle pastorally in Hindu-background contexts; do not soften the biblical claim. Malachi extension: relevant background term for Malachi 2:11’s ‘married the daughter of a foreign god’ — Judah’s covenant-breaking through intermarriage with foreign-cult worshippers, treated by marital_treachery as structurally parallel to marital infidelity.
Worship
Approved rendering: आराधना
Transliteration: ārādhanā
Doctrine: Worship
Rejected alternatives: पूजा
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER पूजा — Hindu ritual-offering connotation. Malachi extension: governs the whole-book theme of Corrupt Worship (chs. 1-2) versus purified worship (3:3-4); this general term should be reserved for exposition/headers, while the concrete cultic vocabulary of Malachi’s text itself uses cultic_offering, priest, and table_of_the_lord.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: पवित्रीकरण
Transliteration: pavitrikaraṇa
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: सफाई, शुद्धिकरण
Inherited from Romans package. Process of being made holy by the Spirit; distinct from ritual purification. Malachi extension: KEEP DISTINCT from purify_sons_of_levi (3:3), which is a specific institutional/priestly restoration event, not the general ongoing sanctification of all believers this baseline term describes.
Living Sacrifice
Approved rendering: जीवित बलिदान
Transliteration: jīvita balidāna
Doctrine: Consecration
Rejected alternatives: बलि, यज्ञ
Inherited from Romans package. Distinguish from यज्ञ/बलि ritual offerings. Malachi extension: this entry’s discipline governs the whole Cluster C offering-vocabulary fence in Malachi — बलिदान is reserved strictly for animal-sacrifice-specific contexts; cultic_offering (भेंट) is the general cultic-gift term; यज्ञ/बलि alone remain forbidden throughout Malachi 1-3’s offering material.
Works Of The Law
Approved rendering: व्यवस्था के काम
Transliteration: vyavasthā ke kāma
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: कर्म
Inherited from Galatians addition to the Romans package. NEVER कर्म — imports merit-accumulation cosmology. Malachi extension: this entry’s discipline governs the tithe doctrine (3:8-10) — the promised blessing must never be framed as a purchased outcome of compliance, paralleling this term’s own grace-vs-works guardrail.
Glory
Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mahimā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: देव-ज्योति, प्रकाश
Inherited from Romans package. Avoid light-metaphors that could conflate with Hindu divine-light concepts. Malachi extension: this entry’s caution applies with even greater force to sun_of_righteousness (4:2), where the metaphor’s vehicle itself (सूर्य, ‘sun’) is a directly named object of living Hindu worship, not merely a light-image.
Reconciliation
Approved rendering: मेल-मिलाप
Transliteration: mela-milāpa
Doctrine: Reconciliation
Rejected alternatives: समझौता
Inherited from Romans package. Restored relationship with God through Christ; not a negotiated settlement. Malachi extension: KEEP DISTINCT from turn_hearts_of_fathers (4:6), which is intra-family/generational reconciliation preceding the great Day, not the Godward reconciliation this baseline term names — do not conflate the two doctrines.
Kingship Of Jesus
Approved rendering: यीशु का राजत्व
Transliteration: Yīśu kā rājatva
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Inherited from Romans package. Adjacent to the Critical Lordship doctrine. Malachi extension: keep distinct register from great_king (1:14), which in Malachi’s own context applies to God the Father’s universal kingship, not a Christ-specific claim; do not merge the two terms.
Messenger
Approved rendering: दूत
Transliteration: dūta
Doctrine: The Coming Messenger
Rejected alternatives: स्वर्गदूत (over-specifies an angelic being; NT fulfillment is human, John the Baptist), संदेशवाहक (already rejected by the baseline for apostle; avoid register confusion)
Original: מַלְאָךְ / מַלְאָכִי
Category: Eschatology
New — Malachi. Wordplay with the prophet’s own name (Malachi = ‘my messenger’). Applies to 1:1’s authorial self-naming, 2:7’s priest-as-messenger ideal, and 3:1’s eschatological forerunner. Keep दूत consistent across all three senses; distinguish sense by context note, not lexical variation.
Gods Covenant Love
Approved rendering: मैंने तुम से प्रेम किया है
Transliteration: maiṃne tuma se prema kiyā hai
Doctrine: God’s Unchanging Love for His People
Rejected alternatives: अनुग्रह-only framing (grace and covenant love are related but not identical; do not collapse this term into the grace entry)
Original: אָהַבְתִּי אֶתְכֶם
Category: God
New — Malachi. Grounding verse of the whole book (1:2). Covenantal, electing love — not merely emotional sentiment. Must retain the Hebrew perfect tense’s force (a completed act with abiding result), and must not be flattened into generic bhakti ‘God loves everyone’ piety without Malachi’s particular, electing force.
Marital Treachery
Approved rendering: विश्वासघात करना
Transliteration: viśvāsaghāta karanā
Doctrine: Marriage as a Divinely Witnessed Covenant
Rejected alternatives: बेवफाई (too casual/secular register, common in Hindi film/media for romantic unfaithfulness)
Original: בָּגַד
Category: Marriage
New — Malachi. Renders בָּגַד, used both of Judah’s covenant-breaking through intermarriage (2:10-11) and of a husband’s betrayal of his wife (2:14-16) — structurally parallel covenant violations in Malachi’s own argument. Must be used identically for both occurrences or the parallel is lost.
Wife Of Covenant
Approved rendering: तेरी वाचा की पत्नी
Transliteration: terī vācā kī patnī
Doctrine: Marriage as a Divinely Witnessed Covenant
Original: אֵשֶׁת בְּרִיתֶךָ / אֵשֶׁת נְעוּרֶיךָ
Category: Marriage
New — Malachi. Marriage explicitly framed as covenant (2:14), witnessed by God, using the same वाचा vocabulary as God’s covenant with Israel. Must not be softened to a merely social/family-negotiated arrangement common in Indian arranged-marriage custom.
Divorce
Approved rendering: त्याग देना / तलाक
Transliteration: tyāga denā / talāqa
Doctrine: Marriage as a Divinely Witnessed Covenant
Original: שִׁלֵּח / כְּרִיתוּת
Category: Marriage
New — Malachi. Malachi 2:16’s Hebrew syntax is disputed. तलाक carries Islamic-legal-procedure connotation in Hindi/Urdu usage; त्याग देना is the safer default pending native-speaker confirmation. Do not resolve the disputed Hebrew by lexical choice alone — footnote interpretive options. Flag for combined native speaker and theologian review.
Return To Me
Approved rendering: मेरी ओर फिरो, तो मैं तुम्हारी ओर फिरूँगा
Transliteration: merī ora phiro, to maiṃ tumhārī ora phirūṃgā
Doctrine: The Call to Repentance before the Great Day
Original: שׁוּבוּ אֵלַי וְאָשׁוּבָה אֲלֵיכֶם
Category: Repentance
New — Malachi. Malachi 3:7’s reciprocal covenant-restoration formula. Must not read as a do-ut-des devotional exchange (a bhakti-style ritual act obligating a deity’s favor); God’s own returning restores a covenant already grounded in his unearned prior love (1:2) — render as one indivisible relational unit, never two independently transactable clauses.
Rob God
Approved rendering: लूटना
Transliteration: lūṭanā
Doctrine: Faithfulness in Tithing
Rejected alternatives: धोखा देना (too weak; loses the theft force)
Original: קָבַע
Category: Tithing
New — Malachi. ‘Will man rob God?’ (3:8-9) — the rhetorical shock characterizes withheld tithes as theft from God himself, not mere non-compliance.
Tithe
Approved rendering: दशमांश
Transliteration: daśamāṃśa
Doctrine: Faithfulness in Tithing
Rejected alternatives: दान (too generic/voluntary; erases the specific covenantal proportion)
Original: מַעְשֵׂר
Category: Tithing
New — Malachi. The covenantally required tenth (3:8,10). Guard against any merit-transaction framing (paralleling works_of_the_law’s caution) — the blessing of 3:10 is God’s gracious covenant response, not a purchased outcome, a distinction with particular force in a culture where ritual giving is often framed as mechanically securing merit or reward.
Refiners Fire
Approved rendering: परिष्कृत करने वाली आग
Transliteration: pariṣkṛta karane vālī āga
Doctrine: Messianic Purification of the Priesthood (Core Passage)
Original: אֵש מְצָרֵף
Category: Worship
New — Malachi. Purifying metallurgical image (3:2-3), core passage. MUST remain lexically and conceptually distinct from oven_of_judgment (4:1) — refines and preserves rather than consumes; conflating the two blurs the book’s hope/warning structure.
Purify Sons Of Levi
Approved rendering: लेवी के वंशजों को शुद्ध करेगा
Transliteration: Levī ke vaṃśajoṃ ko śuddha karegā
Doctrine: Messianic Purification of the Priesthood (Core Passage)
Original: וְטִהַר אֶת־בְּנֵי־לֵוִי
Category: Worship
New — Malachi. The LORD’s purification (not abolition) of the corrupt priesthood so it may again render acceptable offerings (3:3). Keep distinct from sanctification (general believer holiness) — this is specifically priestly/institutional restoration.
Oven Of Judgment
Approved rendering: भट्टी के समान जलता हुआ
Transliteration: bhaṭṭī ke samāna jalatā huā
Doctrine: The Day of the LORD
Original: בֹּעֵר כַּתַּנּוּר
Category: Eschatology
New — Malachi. Total, consuming judgment-fire (4:1), a different register from the purifying refiners_fire of 3:2-3. Keep the two fire-images lexically distinguishable at every occurrence.
Elijah The Prophet
Approved rendering: एलिय्याह भविष्यद्वक्ता
Transliteration: Eliyyāha bhaviṣyadvaktā
Doctrine: The Ministry of Elijah and Family Restoration
Original: אֵלִיָּהוּ הַנָּבִיא
Category: Prophecy
New — Malachi. The promised forerunner (4:5), typologically fulfilled in John the Baptist (Luke 1:17; Matthew 17:10-13). Must be cross-referenced with messenger (3:1) as pointing to the same typological role — failing to link the two in translator notes risks Hindi readers treating them as two unrelated figures.
Cherem Curse
Approved rendering: सर्वनाश / अभिशाप
Transliteration: sarvanāśa / abhiśāpa
Doctrine: The Ministry of Elijah and Family Restoration
Rejected alternatives: श्राप-only (would wrongly conflate with the Galatians curse entry’s distinct judicial-covenant-curse doctrine without a distinguishing note)
Original: חֵרֶם
Category: Eschatology
New — Malachi. Total, irrevocable devotion to destruction (חֵרֶם, 4:6), distinct from קְלָלָה/κατάρα (the baseline Galatians curse/atonement_curse_bearing category). Do not merge without an explicit translator note distinguishing the two Hebrew/Greek legal-theological categories.
Immutability Of God
Approved rendering: मैं यहोवा नहीं बदलता
Transliteration: maiṃ Yahowā nahīṃ badalatā
Doctrine: God’s Unchanging Love for His People
Rejected alternatives: मैं वैसा ही हूँ (too vague; loses the causal link to Israel’s preservation)
New — Malachi. Recommended addition per analysis/06_linguistic_gap_analysis.md §1.1/§4 item 5, closing the most significant vocabulary gap identified in that analysis. Renders Malachi 3:6 (לא שָׁנִיתִי, ‘I the LORD do not change’), the verse most directly stating the doctrine this curriculum names first. Must retain यहोवा (not परमेश्वर) per the divine-name discipline, and must keep the causal link to 3:6b (‘therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed’) — immutability is the ground of covenant preservation, not an abstract philosophical attribute. Flag for theologian review given its direct link to the curriculum’s first doctrine; risk escalates toward Critical if left unresolved in Phase 2.
Medium Risk Terms
Blessing Of Abraham
Approved rendering: आशीष
Transliteration: āśīṣa
Doctrine: Covenant
Rejected alternatives: आशीर्वाद
Inherited from Romans package (Galatians addition). आशीर्वाद forbidden — guru/elder reciprocal-favor connotation. Malachi extension: governs the general ‘blessing’ term at 3:10 (בְּרָכָה); God’s blessing on the tithing nation must read as his own gracious initiative in response to covenant faithfulness, never a mechanically purchased outcome.
Mercy
Approved rendering: दया
Transliteration: dayā
Doctrine: Mercy of God
Inherited from Romans package. Kept distinct from अनुग्रह (grace). Malachi extension: available for compassion-toward-the-miserable contexts if such phrasing arises in exposition of Malachi’s covenant-lawsuit material; kept distinct from gods_covenant_love, which is Malachi’s own specific term for God’s electing, covenantal love (1:2).
Sorcery
Approved rendering: जादू-टोना
Transliteration: jādū-ṭonā
Doctrine: Sin
Inherited from Galatians addition to the Romans package. Names a live occult practice in the Indian context; render descriptively, not sensationally. Malachi extension: renders the sorcerers listed among the sins God will judge at Malachi 3:5 — retain the kingdom/covenant-lawsuit judgment force, do not soften.
Armor Of Light
Approved rendering: ज्योति के हथियार
Transliteration: jyoti ke hathiyāra
Doctrine: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. Do not extend light metaphors toward Hindu divine-light concepts. Malachi extension: cited directly by this book’s comparative theology analysis as a precedent guardrail intensified by sun_of_righteousness — retained here for that explicit cross-reference.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का राज्य
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā rājya
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वर का राष्ट्र
Inherited from Romans package. God’s sovereign reign; distinguish from political kingdom concepts. Malachi extension: adjacent to but distinct from great_king (Malachi 1:14), which names God the Father’s specific royal title over the nations rather than the general kingdom-reign doctrine.
Burden Oracle
Approved rendering: भारी वचन
Transliteration: bhārī vacana
Doctrine: Inspiration and Authority of the Prophetic Oracle
Rejected alternatives: संदेश
Original: מַשָּׂא
Category: Prophecy
New — Malachi. Book’s superscription term (1:1), מַשָּׂא. A weighty, compelled prophetic pronouncement, not casual speech; distinguish from the Hindu concept of śruti (a sage’s self-attained insight) — Malachi is a commissioned spokesperson receiving an externally imposed oracle.
Priest
Approved rendering: याजक
Transliteration: yājaka
Doctrine: Corrupt Worship and a Broken Levitical Covenant
Rejected alternatives: पुजारी (Hindu temple-priest connotation, performing पूजा)
Original: כֹּהֵן / כֹּהֲנִים
Category: Worship
New — Malachi. Established Hindi Christian/Bible term for the Levitical priesthood (1:6-2:9). Never पुजारी — a different religious office resting on different theological assumptions.
Cultic Offering
Approved rendering: भेंट
Transliteration: bheṇṭa
Doctrine: Corrupt Worship and a Broken Levitical Covenant
Rejected alternatives: यज्ञ, बलि
Original: מִנְחָה
Category: Worship
New — Malachi. General cultic gift/tribute term (מִנְחָה). Never यज्ञ/बलि, which carry Hindu ritual-exchange-for-boon connotations that would recast Malachi’s offerings as a merit-transaction. Reserve बलिदान for animal-sacrifice-specific contexts per the living_sacrifice entry’s discipline.
Blemished Offering
Approved rendering: अशुद्ध भेंट
Transliteration: aśuddha bheṇṭa
Doctrine: Corrupt Worship and a Broken Levitical Covenant
Original: לֶחֶם מְגֹאָל
Category: Worship
New — Malachi. Ritually disqualified offerings (1:7-8,13) — blind, lame, or diseased sacrificial animals. Unlike the baseline’s general caution against ritual-purity vocabulary for moral sin, this is a genuinely correct cultic-disqualification context; do not replace अशुद्ध with पाप-family vocabulary here.
Table Of The Lord
Approved rendering: यहोवा की मेज़
Transliteration: Yahowā kī meza
Doctrine: Corrupt Worship and a Broken Levitical Covenant
Original: שֻׁלְחָן יְהוָה
Category: Worship
New — Malachi. Metonymy for the altar and its offerings (1:7,12), a covenantal fellowship-meal image. Keep यहोवा consistent with the divine-name discipline. Flag for future consistency review if a curriculum treating 1 Corinthians 10:21 (‘table of the Lord,’ using प्रभु/Kyrios) is later processed.
Great King
Approved rendering: महान राजा
Transliteration: mahāna rājā
Doctrine: God’s Unchanging Love for His People
Original: מֶלֶךְ גָּדוֹל
Category: God
New — Malachi. Royal-sovereignty title for God’s universal kingship over the nations (1:14). Adjacent to but distinct from kingdom_of_god and kingship_of_jesus (Christ-specific) — keep the three registers distinguishable.
One Father One God
Approved rendering: एक पिता…एक परमेश्वर
Transliteration: eka pitā…eka Parameśvara
Doctrine: One God, One Father over His People
Original: אָב אֶחָד / אֵל אֶחָד
Category: Covenant
New — Malachi. Grounds interpersonal covenant faithfulness (2:10) in shared creation under one God. Keep distinct from the baseline’s unity-of-Jews-and-Gentiles argument — a different theological question — so the two are not conflated in cross-curriculum study materials.
Windows Of Heaven
Approved rendering: आकाश की खिड़कियाँ
Transliteration: ākāśa kī khiḍakiyāṃ
Doctrine: Faithfulness in Tithing
Original: אֲרֻבּוֹת הַשָּׁמַיִם
Category: Tithing
New — Malachi. Vivid image of blessing poured out through opened heavenly sluices (3:10; cf. Genesis 7:11 used positively). Keep concrete; do not abstract into generic ‘great blessing.‘
Book Of Remembrance
Approved rendering: स्मरण की पुस्तक
Transliteration: smaraṇa kī pustaka
Doctrine: God’s Remembrance of the Faithful (Book of Remembrance)
Rejected alternatives: कर्म-पुस्तक (would import karma-ledger cosmology)
Original: סֵפֶר זִכָּרוֹן
Category: Eschatology
New — Malachi. God’s personal, relational record-keeping (3:16), not impersonal cosmic accounting. Keep grammatically tied to the preceding relational verbs (‘the LORD paid attention and heard,’ 3:16a).
Fear Of The Lord
Approved rendering: यहोवा का भय मानने वाले
Transliteration: Yahowā kā bhaya mānane vāle
Doctrine: The Call to Repentance before the Great Day
Rejected alternatives: भक्त (too generic-devotional; loses covenantal specificity of यहोवा as object)
Original: יִרְאֵי יְהוָה
Category: Repentance
New — Malachi. Reverent covenant piety (3:16; 4:2), not terror-dread and not generalized religious devotion to any chosen deity.
Fullers Soap
Approved rendering: धोबी का साबुन
Transliteration: dhobī kā sābuna
Doctrine: Messianic Purification of the Priesthood (Core Passage)
Original: בֹּרִית מְכַבְּסִים
Category: Worship
New — Malachi. Complementary purification image (3:2); concrete, familiar in Indian daily life — keep concrete rather than abstracting to generic ‘cleansing.‘
Healing In Wings
Approved rendering: उसके पंखों में आरोग्यता
Transliteration: usake paṅkhoṃ meṃ ārogyatā
Doctrine: The Sun of Righteousness and Its Healing
Original: מַרְפֵּא בִּכְנָפֶיהָ
Category: Eschatology
New — Malachi. Balances the oven-judgment of 4:1 — for ‘those who fear my name,’ the same Day brings healing (4:2). Keep the wing/ray imagery concrete; carries the same collision caution as sun_of_righteousness.
Turn Hearts Of Fathers
Approved rendering: पितरों के मन को उनकी सन्तान की ओर फेरना
Transliteration: pitaroṃ ke mana ko unakī santāna kī ora pheranā
Doctrine: The Ministry of Elijah and Family Restoration
Original: וְהֵשִׁיב לֵב־אָבוֹת עַל־בָּנִים
Category: Eschatology
New — Malachi. Familial/generational reconciliation preceding the great Day (4:6). Distinct from the baseline reconciliation doctrine (Godward) — keep the family referent explicit rather than generalizing into abstract ‘reconciliation.‘
Temple
Approved rendering: मन्दिर
Transliteration: mandira
Doctrine: The Coming Messenger
Original: מִקְדָּשׁ
Category: Worship
New — Malachi. The Jerusalem temple (מִקְדָּשׁ), God’s dwelling-place, to which the LORD and the messenger of the covenant suddenly come (3:1). Concrete, historical location — must not be spiritualized into a metaphor for an inner state, nor confused with a Hindu मन्दिर as a site of image-worship. A brief contextual note distinguishing the referent is recommended at first occurrence.
Great And Terrible Day
Approved rendering: महान और भयानक दिन
Transliteration: mahāna aura bhayānaka dina
Doctrine: The Day of the LORD
New — Malachi. Recommended addition per analysis/06_linguistic_gap_analysis.md §2.1, fixing the intensifying double adjective at Malachi 4:5 (הַיּוֹם…הַגָּדוֹל וְהַנּוֹרָא) as a stable collocation rather than leaving register to case-by-case translator improvisation. Pair consistently with day_of_the_lord_malachi.
Low Risk Terms
Prophet
Approved rendering: भविष्यद्वक्ता
Transliteration: bhaviṣyadvaktā
Doctrine: Inspiration of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: ज्योतिषी
Original: נָבִיא
Category: Prophecy
Inherited from Romans package. God’s spokesperson; not an astrologer/fortune-teller. Malachi extension: risk tier is elevated to High in this book’s doctrine registry specifically for the Elijah reference at 4:5, because that occurrence carries a load-bearing eschatological/Christological claim (typologically fulfilled in John the Baptist), not a generic reference to the prophetic office.
Levi Proper Name
Approved rendering: लेवी
Transliteration: Levī
Doctrine: Corrupt Worship and a Broken Levitical Covenant
Original: לֵוִי
Category: Covenant
New — Malachi. Proper name of the priestly tribe/ancestor (2:4,8; 3:3). Standard transliterated proper name.
Malachi Proper Name
Approved rendering: मलाकी
Transliteration: Malākī
Doctrine: Inspiration and Authority of the Prophetic Oracle
New — Malachi. The book/author’s proper name, standard transliteration per analysis/06_linguistic_gap_analysis.md §3. The built-in Hebrew wordplay (‘my messenger,’ מַלְאָכִי) cannot be reproduced lexically by transliterating the name; it must be supplied by a translator’s note at 1:1 and cross-referenced with the messenger entry, consistent with how other established proper names (दाऊद, मूसा) are handled.
