Doctrine Analysis

Doctrine Analysis — English → Hindi | Matthew 1–28

Purpose

This document provides the full doctrine matrix for the Matthew curriculum, spanning every chapter from Matthew 1 to Matthew 28, with Matthew 5:1–12 (the Beatitudes) as the curriculum’s theological anchor rather than its scope boundary. It is fully CONSISTENT with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: the same 27 doctrines, in the same risk tiers, are reproduced here with supporting passages, translation-risk rationale, and review routing. This document drives Phase 2 Step 17 review routing decisions and must be read alongside 08_core_glossary.md (term-level detail) and 07_semantic_analysis.md (verse-level detail).

Risk tiers follow the baseline four-tier convention:

  • Critical — mistranslation alters or destroys essential doctrine; human theologian review required for every occurrence.
  • High — mistranslation creates significant theological confusion or syncretism risk; human theologian review required.
  • Medium — mistranslation reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning; native speaker review recommended.
  • Low — mistranslation causes minor misunderstanding; automated review sufficient.

A. Mapping — Curriculum-Level Doctrines to Registry Doctrines

The nine curriculum_parameters doctrines expand, under semantic analysis, into 27 registry-level doctrines. This mapping preserves traceability:

No chapter of Matthew is without doctrinal content requiring translation-risk attention; the density is heaviest in chapters 1–5, 12, 16, and 22–28, consistent with the book’s genealogical/infancy material, the Sermon on the Mount (containing the core passage), the Caesarea Philippi/Sabbath controversies, and the Passion/Resurrection/Commission complex.

D. Escalation and Consistency Notes

  1. All baseline Romans/Galatians auto-escalation triggers carry over unchanged (grace-vs-works contrasts, election/predestination language, atonement/propitiation language, Lordship confession, resurrection references, deity-of-Christ references) and are joined by the Matthew-specific Critical-risk triggers in Section B above.
  2. Kingdom vocabulary governance: स्वर्ग का राज्य and परमेश्वर का राज्य (baseline) must be treated in translator notes as the same referent throughout Matthew; no document may imply two different kingdoms.
  3. Shared OT citations (Leviticus 19:18 at 22:39; Psalm 118:22 at 21:42; Davidic covenant language at 1:1,17 and 22:42-45) must match the baseline Romans/Galatians renderings verbatim per the cross-curriculum consistency rule.
  4. Citation format: this curriculum cites as मत्ती (e.g., मत्ती 5:1-12), per BSI OV/NV convention, with Arabic verse numerals.
  5. This document supersedes no baseline doctrine; it extends the baseline registry with Matthew-specific doctrines while leaving all Romans/Galatians doctrine entries and forbidden-substitution rules unchanged.

Critical Risk Doctrines

The Kingdom of Heaven

Hindi name: स्वर्ग का राज्य
Key terms: kingdom_of_heaven, kingdom_of_god, fulfillment_formula, keys_of_the_kingdom, kingdom_transfer_warning
Review routing: Human theologian

स्वर्ग का राज्य collides with Hindu svarga-loka, a temporary heavenly reward-realm reached by accumulated merit within the rebirth cycle. The Hindi rendering risks being heard as a purely future afterlife destination and as a merit-attained reward rather than God’s present-and-coming reign entered by grace through repentance and faith (4:17). Must be tracked as identical in referent to the baseline परमेश्वर का राज्य throughout.

Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David

Hindi name: मसीहाई वादा और दाऊद का पुत्र
Key terms: messiah, son_of_david, david, fulfillment_formula, rejected_cornerstone
Review routing: Human theologian

मसीह and दाऊद का पुत्र must convey exclusive, one-time covenant fulfillment, not one avatar or teacher among several messianic candidates (a live risk given India’s pluralist tolerance of multiple would-be saviors/gurus). The genealogy (ch. 1) and repeated fulfillment citations require readers to grasp a linear, historical fulfillment absent from Hindu cosmological frameworks.

The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching

Hindi name: यीशु के उपदेश का अधिकार
Key terms: authority, antithesis_formula, authority_to_forgive_sins, sabbath_lord_of_sabbath, scribes, greatest_commandment
Review routing: Human theologian

अधिकार must convey Jesus’s own inherent, self-authenticating authority, contrasted with the scribes’ authority derived from citing prior rabbinic tradition — a distinction that directly parallels and must not collapse into India’s guru-paramparā model, where a teacher’s authority derives from a chain of human transmission rather than being possessed independently and originally.

Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees

Hindi name: फरीसियों से बढ़कर धार्मिकता
Key terms: righteousness, righteousness_exceeding, hypocrisy, almsgiving, fasting, tradition_of_elders, defile_koinoo, titles_forbidden
Review routing: Human theologian

धार्मिकता…से बढ़कर must never be heard as an escalated dharma-performance contest (more external rule-keeping than the Pharisees) rather than heart-level righteousness addressing internal disposition. दान and उपवास both carry live merit-accumulation (puṇya) connotations in Hindu religious practice that must be explicitly excluded from the reward Jesus describes.

The Great Commission

Hindi name: महान आज्ञा
Key terms: great_commission, make_disciples, all_authority_heaven_earth, gentiles, baptism, trinity
Review routing: Human theologian

सब जातियों (all nations) must retain unqualified universality with no caste, ethnic, or national exclusion. The mandate’s ground — स्वर्ग और पृथ्वी पर सारा अधिकार — must convey Christ’s truly universal, already-possessed authority, not a regional or provisional claim; softening either element undermines the missionary mandate’s theological basis.

Judgment and the End of the Age

Hindi name: अन्तिम न्याय और युग का अन्त
Key terms: end_of_the_age, parousia, abomination_of_desolation, eternal_punishment, sheep_and_goats, sadducees
Review routing: Human theologian

आगमन and जगत का अन्त must convey a single, final, personal, historical event, never a recurring avatāra-style periodic divine intervention or a cyclical pralaya/yuga dissolution-and-recreation. अनन्त दण्ड must carry symmetrical, non-negotiable eternality alongside अनन्त जीवन in the same verse (25:46) — inconsistent handling would suggest a temporary, purgation-style naraka rather than final judgment.

Deity of Christ

Hindi name: मसीह का ईश्वरत्व
Key terms: worship, worship_of_risen_christ, son_of_god, lord, sabbath_lord_of_sabbath, authority_to_forgive_sins
Review routing: Human theologian

The προσκυνέω (worship) trajectory from ambiguous royal homage (ch. 2) to full, uncorrected worship of the risen Christ (28:9,17) is the clearest narrative deity-claim in the book and must always use आराधना, never पूजा. Any softening at the climactic points would erase the narrative argument for full deity.

Sonship of Christ

Hindi name: मसीह का पुत्रत्व
Key terms: son_of_god, transfiguration
Review routing: Human theologian

परमेश्वर का पुत्र must remain Christ’s eternal, unique, co-equal Sonship, never conflated with the derivative, adoptive sonship of peacemakers/believers (5:9) that appears in close textual proximity within the Sermon on the Mount.

Son of Man — Danielic Authority and Judgment

Hindi name: मनुष्य के पुत्र का अधिकार और न्याय
Key terms: son_of_man, authority, parousia
Review routing: Human theologian

मनुष्य का पुत्र in ordinary Hindi could be flattened to mean simply ‘a human being,’ entirely losing the Daniel 7:13-14 allusion to a divinely-authorized, kingdom-receiving, judging figure — a title that carries as much christological weight as ‘Son of God’ in Matthew, not less.

Incarnation

Hindi name: देहधारण
Key terms: incarnation, jesus
Review routing: Human theologian

इम्मानुएल (‘God with us,’ 1:23) must be paired with देहधारण and explicitly distinguished from अवतार’s temporary, repeatable deity-descent pattern. The closing promise (28:20, ‘I am with you always’) echoes this permanent presence and must be tied back to 1:23 by translator note.

Trinity

Hindi name: त्रिएकता
Key terms: trinity, holy_spirit, father, son_of_god, baptism
Review routing: Human theologian

The baptismal formula’s singular ‘name’ (नाम, not नामों) naming three distinct Persons must avoid both tritheism (three separate deities) and modalism/avataric conflation (त्रिमूर्ति-style sequential manifestations of one deity) — never त्रिमूर्ति.

Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

Hindi name: पवित्र आत्मा के विरुद्ध निन्दा
Key terms: blasphemy_against_holy_spirit, holy_spirit, sin
Review routing: Human theologian

Must be rendered with extreme pastoral care as a settled, willful, final rejection of the Spirit’s testimony to Christ — never a generic serious sin, and never phrased so alarmingly that anxious believers with momentary doubts wrongly conclude they have committed it.

Atonement and Ransom

Hindi name: प्रायश्चित्त और छुटकारे का दाम
Key terms: ransom, redemption, cross, eli_eli_lama_sabachthani, veil_torn
Review routing: Human theologian

The ransom saying (20:28) must preserve substitution (ἀντί, ‘in place of’) and never drift toward मुक्ति/मोक्ष. Christ’s cry of dereliction (27:46) must not be softened into mere physical suffering nor imply a rupture within the eternal Trinity’s being — theologian review required given the doctrinal precision needed.

The Lord’s Supper and the New Covenant

Hindi name: प्रभु का भोज और नई वाचा
Key terms: lords_supper_institution, covenant
Review routing: Human theologian

Must not be assimilated to Hindu prasad/offering categories in which food is ritually offered to and returned from a deity; here Christ is both giver and gift, given to worshippers, not received from them in a reciprocal exchange. वाचा must connect explicitly to the covenant-history framework (Exodus 24:8; Jeremiah 31:31).

Resurrection of Christ

Hindi name: मसीह का पुनरुत्थान
Key terms: resurrection, sadducees
Review routing: Human theologian

पुनरुत्थान must be preserved as a bodily, historical, once-for-all event; never पुनर्जन्म. The Sadducees’ denial of resurrection (22:23) offers an occasion for confusion if the debate is not clearly resolved in Jesus’s favor within the rendering.

Sabbath and Christ’s Lordship

Hindi name: सब्त और मसीह का प्रभुत्व
Key terms: sabbath_lord_of_sabbath, lord, authority
Review routing: Human theologian

प्रभु (reused from the baseline Critical-risk lord entry) must convey Jesus’s supreme authority even over a foundational Torah institution, not merely a lenient legal-interpretive stance on Sabbath rules.

High Risk Doctrines

Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy

Hindi name: भविष्यवाणी की पूर्ति
Key terms: fulfillment_formula, prophet, son_of_david, rejected_cornerstone
Review routing: Human theologian

The recurring fulfillment formula must convey a single, linear, historical fulfillment (OT promise → NT event in Jesus), never a cyclical or repeatable pattern as in Hindu yuga-cycle cosmology, where mythic/prophetic events recur across cosmic ages.

The Church and Church Discipline

Hindi name: कलीसिया और कलीसियाई अनुशासन
Key terms: church, keys_of_the_kingdom, bind_and_loose, church_discipline_procedure
Review routing: Human theologian

The graduated, restorative discipline procedure (private confrontation → witnesses → the church → treat as outsider) must not be flattened into an immediate public-shaming mechanism, which would clash badly with honor/shame sensitivities in Indian social contexts and misrepresent the passage’s restorative intent. बांधना/खोलना must convey heaven-ratified, derivative church authority under Christ, not an independent human power to legislate.

Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus

Hindi name: चेलाई और यीशु के पीछे चलने की कीमत
Key terms: disciple, follow_akoloutheo, cross_bearing, yoke_of_christ, reward_misthos
Review routing: Human theologian

चेला (never शिष्य, which imports the guru-śiṣya merit/enlightenment paradigm) must convey grace-grounded allegiance to a saving Lord. ‘Deny himself’ (16:24) must not collapse into an ego-dissolution reading resembling advaitic loss of selfhood; the self remains real and continues to choose costly obedience.

Universal Scope of the Gospel to All Nations

Hindi name: सुसमाचार का सार्वभौमिक दायरा
Key terms: gentiles, great_commission, israel
Review routing: Human theologian

The staged mission scope (Israel first, ch. 10; then all nations, ch. 28) must not be misread as a permanent ethnic restriction; the trajectory from magi (ch. 2) to Great Commission (ch. 28) must retain unqualified universality with no caste or ethnic barrier implied at any point along the way.

Grace versus Merit (Reward/Wage Theology)

Hindi name: अनुग्रह और प्रतिफल — कर्म बनाम अनुग्रह
Key terms: grace, reward_misthos, almsgiving
Review routing: Human theologian

प्रतिफल (reward/wage) is Matthew’s most persistent karma-phal collision point: without the controlling lens of the Laborers in the Vineyard parable (20:1-16), where identical wages are paid regardless of hours worked, every other ‘reward’ passage risks being read as merit-proportional payment rather than disproportionate grace.

Tradition versus God’s Command

Hindi name: परम्परा और परमेश्वर की आज्ञा
Key terms: tradition_of_elders, defile_koinoo, hypocrisy
Review routing: Human theologian

The passage’s core move — relocating defilement from external/ritual contact to internal moral corruption — must be rendered so as not to collapse back into Hindu ritual purity/impurity (shuddhi/ashuddhi) categories, which would reverse the text’s own argument.

Eschatological Separation and Final Judgment

Hindi name: अन्तिम पृथक्करण और न्याय
Key terms: sheep_and_goats, eternal_punishment, eternal_life
Review routing: Human theologian

The wheat/weeds, dragnet, and sheep/goats separations must be read as God’s own final sorting, not a self-executing karmic law of accumulated deeds; the sheep’s compassionate deeds (25:31-46) are evidence of prior grace-relationship with the King, not the meritorious cause of entering the kingdom.

Repentance and the Kingdom’s Nearness

Hindi name: मन फिराव और राज्य की निकटता
Key terms: kingdom_of_heaven, fulfillment_formula
Review routing: Human theologian

‘The kingdom of heaven has drawn near’ must preserve present-tense immediacy (an already-inbreaking reign), resisting a purely future/afterlife-only reading that स्वर्ग का राज्य’s svarga-loka associations would otherwise encourage. मन फिराव (baseline repentance term) is reused exactly and must retain whole-life turning, not mere remorse.

Forbidden Honorific Titles and Spiritual Pride

Hindi name: उपाधियाँ और आत्मिक अभिमान
Key terms: titles_forbidden, hypocrisy
Review routing: Human theologian

गुरु carries deep reverential, near-absolute authority connotations in Indian religious culture, comparable to or exceeding रब्बी; the prohibition against disciples seeking such honorific status for themselves must retain its full corrective force rather than being read as a minor point of etiquette.

The Narrow Way and Gospel Exclusivity

Hindi name: तंग मार्ग और सुसमाचार की विशिष्टता
Key terms: narrow_gate, great_commission
Review routing: Human theologian

In India’s pluralist religious environment, where ‘many paths, one destination’ is a widespread devotional assumption, तंग द्वार’s exclusivity claim must not be softened into one valid option among several equally legitimate religious paths.

Medium Risk Doctrines

Forgiveness Within the Church

Hindi name: कलीसिया में क्षमा
Key terms: church_discipline_procedure, mercy
Review routing: Native speaker review

अपराध (debts/sins) and the Unforgiving Servant parable’s limitless forgiveness (‘seventy times seven’) must not be read as a self-balancing karmic debt-ledger; forgiveness flows from and mirrors God’s own prior, gracious forgiveness already received.
