D. Forbidden Substitutions Added by Jeremiah (extends baseline + Galatians lists)
- Covenant-plans / providence (machashavah, 18:11; 29:11): NEVER भाग्य, नियति, or किस्मत — always योजना.
- Everlasting covenant (berit olam, 32:40): NEVER सनातन — always अनन्त वाचा / सदा की वाचा.
- Relational knowing (yada, 31:34; 24:7): NEVER ज्ञान — always जानना.
- Individual responsibility formula (31:29-30): NEVER frame with कर्म-फल-adjacent phrasing implying cross-life ledger — always a single-lifetime, personal-God-accountable framing.
- Vengeance (naqam, 50:15): NEVER बदला alone — always न्याय का बदला, per baseline wrath_of_god caution.
- Baal / Queen of Heaven (proper deity names): NEVER left unmarked as generic vocabulary — always retained as clearly flagged condemned proper names.
- Yoke of Babylon (ol, ch. 27) vs. yoke of slavery (Galatians baseline): NEVER conflated — the former is disciplinary submission to God’s revealed will; the latter is bondage to be resisted.
Load this glossary alongside translation_memory.json, bible_term_registry.json, and doctrine_risk_registry.json before Phase 2 Jeremiah translation begins. All new terms in Section B require formal addition to translation_memory.json (version increment) and, for Critical/High risk items, ratification by human theologian review per the baseline 12_ai_translation_requirements.md escalation rules.
Critical Risk Terms
Law
Approved rendering: व्यवस्था
Transliteration: vyavasthā
Doctrine: New Covenant
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, शरीयत, नियम
Inherited from Romans package (व्यवस्था rendering reused exactly); risk tier ESCALATED from High to Critical specifically for this book. Jeremiah 31:33 promises the SAME Torah written on the heart, not a new legal code. Any drift toward धर्म would assert a new dharma-code has superseded the old, inverting the verse’s actual claim of internalization, not replacement.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: धार्मिकता
Transliteration: dhārmikatā
Doctrine: New Covenant / Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: धर्म, पुण्य, न्याय
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER धर्म. Culminates in the messianic title यहोवा हमारी धार्मिकता है (23:6; 33:16) and the royal obligation of 22:3; 9:24.
Justification
Approved rendering: धर्मी ठहराया जाना
Transliteration: dharmī ṭaharāyā jānā
Doctrine: Messianic Promise: The Righteous Davidic Branch
Rejected alternatives: माफी पाना, पुण्य प्राप्त करना
Inherited from Romans package. The licensed धर्मी compound root is reused (not the full phrase) to build धर्मी शाखा (righteous Branch, 23:5; 33:15) and to license धार्मिकता in यहोवा हमारी धार्मिकता है. Cross-reference new terms righteous_branch and yhwh_tsidqenu below.
God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर
Transliteration: Parameśvara
Doctrine: The Divine Name and the Lordship of YHWH
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वर, भगवान
Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout as part of the Divine Name convention: default rendering for the Tetragrammaton in running narrative. See new term divine_name_yhwh below.
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभु
Transliteration: Prabhu
Doctrine: The Divine Name and the Lordship of YHWH
Rejected alternatives: स्वामी, ईश्वर
Inherited from Romans package. Used alongside परमेश्वर as the running-narrative default for YHWH per the locked Divine Name convention. Also relevant to the ba’al/ba’alti wordplay guardrail — see husband_covenant_wordplay below.
Husband Covenant Wordplay
Approved rendering: पति
Transliteration: ba’al / ba’alti
Doctrine: The Covenant as Marriage: Divine Husband and Unfaithful Bride
Jeremiah 31:32 (‘I was husband [ba’alti] to them’). Hebrew ba’al/ba’alti shares its root with the condemned deity-name Baal — a deliberate polemical wordplay: Israel confused covenant lordship with idol-lordship. Hindi पति preserves none of this irony. Do NOT attempt to reproduce the pun in Hindi. Mandatory translator note on every occurrence explaining the shared Hebrew root. Mandatory theologian review.
Know Relationally
Approved rendering: जानना
Transliteration: yada
Doctrine: New Covenant
Rejected alternatives: ज्ञान
Jeremiah 31:34; 24:7. NEVER ज्ञान — jñāna denotes liberating self-realization attained through the seeker’s own effort in Hindu philosophy, inverting the doctrine that this relational knowledge is God’s own gift extended to ‘the least…to the greatest,’ not an attainment of the wise or devout. Parallels the baseline Galatians known_by_god entry. Mandatory theologian review every occurrence.
Baal
Approved rendering: बाल (देवता)
Transliteration: Ba’al
Doctrine: Judgment for Covenant Unfaithfulness and Idolatry
Jeremiah 2:8 and throughout. Bare बाल is ordinary Hindi vocabulary (hair; common name element); the (देवता) qualifier is MANDATORY on every occurrence so the condemned proper name of the rival deity never reads as neutral vocabulary. Links to husband_covenant_wordplay above.
Queen Of Heaven
Approved rendering: स्वर्ग की रानी
Transliteration: malkat hashamayim
Doctrine: Judgment for Covenant Unfaithfulness and Idolatry
Jeremiah 7:18; 44:17-19,25. A condemned pagan astral-fertility cult title (likely Ishtar/Astarte-type). Must always be contextually marked as condemned, never a devotional honorific — risk of being misheard as goddess-veneration language or later confused with Marian titles in NT-adjacent curricula.
Righteous Branch
Approved rendering: धर्मी शाखा
Transliteration: tsemach tsaddiq
Doctrine: Messianic Promise: The Righteous Davidic Branch
Jeremiah 23:5; 33:15. Uses the licensed धर्मी compound root from the baseline justification entry. The single most important messianic term in Jeremiah; must never soften into a generic ‘good ruler’ disconnected from the specific Davidic-messianic promise fulfilled exclusively in Christ. Cross-reference baseline messiah/son_of_god/davidic_covenant. Mandatory theologian review.
Yhwh Tsidqenu
Approved rendering: यहोवा हमारी धार्मिकता है
Transliteration: YHWH Tsidqenu
Doctrine: Messianic Promise: The Righteous Davidic Branch
Jeremiah 23:6; 33:16. धार्मिकता reused exactly; transliterated यहोवा used here (uniquely, against the narrative-default rule) since the divine Name itself is the theological point. Righteousness given BY God, not achieved by king or people. Mandatory theologian review.
Gods Plans
Approved rendering: योजना
Transliteration: machashavah / machshevot
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, नियति, किस्मत
Jeremiah 18:11; 29:11. NEVER भाग्य/नियति/किस्मत. Escalated to Critical (PASTORAL) risk: 29:11 is among the most-quoted verses in Indian Christian devotional life and is routinely stripped of its exile-specific corporate setting and read as a blanket individual prosperity guarantee. Mandatory pastoral-context translator note, not merely a doctrinal-accuracy check.
Individual Responsibility Formula
Approved rendering: हर एक अपने ही पाप के कारण मरेगा
Transliteration: ish ba’avono yamut
Doctrine: Individual Responsibility
Jeremiah 31:29-30, correcting the ‘sour grapes’ proverb of transferred generational guilt. THE SINGLE HIGHEST KARMA-COLLISION POINT IN THE BOOK: superficially resembles cross-generational/cross-life karma transfer, but Jeremiah’s argument is the OPPOSITE — personal accountability to a personal covenant God within a single lifetime, never a multi-life karmic ledger. Mandatory theologian review and translator note on every occurrence.
High Risk Terms
Covenant
Approved rendering: वाचा
Transliteration: vācā
Doctrine: Covenant
Rejected alternatives: अनुबंध, समझौता
Inherited from Romans package. Reused exactly. A binding relational bond, never a commercial contract. Governs all covenant vocabulary throughout Jeremiah (3:16; 11:2; 31:31-34; 32:40; 34:8).
Sin
Approved rendering: पाप
Transliteration: pāpa
Doctrine: Judgment for Covenant Unfaithfulness and Idolatry
Rejected alternatives: अधर्म, अशुद्धता
Inherited from Romans package. Moral transgression before a personal covenant God; distinct from अपराध (avon, resulting guilt) used newly in this package.
Idolatry
Approved rendering: मूर्तिपूजा
Transliteration: mūrtipūjā
Doctrine: Judgment for Covenant Unfaithfulness and Idolatry
Inherited from Romans package. Handle pastorally: the same word names normative Hindu devotional practice for many Hindi speakers; never soften the biblical claim. Chapters 2, 7, 10, 44.
Remnant
Approved rendering: बचे हुए लोग
Transliteration: bace hue loga
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration after Exile
Inherited from Romans package. The grace-not-merit basis of remnant survival established for Romans 9-11 must be preserved here (chs. 40-45): survivors are a gracious seedbed God preserves, not a morally superior class.
Repentance
Approved rendering: मन फिराव
Transliteration: mana phirāva
Doctrine: New Covenant
Rejected alternatives: पश्चाताप
Inherited from Romans package. Use for the theological sense of Hebrew shuv (‘return to God’) at 3:12; 3:22; 4:1; 31:18. Use plain लौटना/फिरना for ordinary physical return so the two senses are not conflated.
Wrath Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का क्रोध
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā krodha
Doctrine: Judgment
Rejected alternatives: बदला
Inherited from Romans package. Never बदला alone (personal revenge); 4:8; 7:20; 25:15; 44:6. Pairs with new term cup_of_wrath and vengeance below.
Creator
Approved rendering: सृजनहार
Transliteration: sṛjanahāra
Doctrine: Judgment for Covenant Unfaithfulness and Idolatry
Rejected alternatives: ब्रह्मा
Inherited from Romans package. Contrasted with man-made idols; 10:12-16; 32:17; 51:15.
Providence
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का विधान
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā vidhāna
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, कर्म का नियम
Inherited from Romans package. Never भाग्य/karma-law. 1:12; 18:1-10; 29:11.
Sovereignty
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर की संप्रभुता
Transliteration: Parameśvara kī samprabhutā
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, नियति
Inherited from Romans package. Chapters 18; 27; 46-51.
Election
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का चुनाव
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā cunāva
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Rejected alternatives: भाग्य, नियति, किस्मत
Inherited from Romans package. Exemplified in Jeremiah’s own pre-birth appointment (1:5) and Israel’s covenant election (33:24-26).
Curse
Approved rendering: श्राप / श्रापित
Transliteration: śrāpa / śrāpita
Doctrine: The Covenant’s Curse-Sanction for Unfaithfulness
Inherited from the Galatians curse/atonement_curse_bearing handling exactly. Must be understood as God’s own fixed judicial covenant-sanction (11:3; cf. Deuteronomy 27-28), never a transferable, ritually-liftable folk curse. Mandatory translator note on every occurrence. See new term covenant_curse_alah below for the specific Hebrew alah sense.
Redemption
Approved rendering: छुटकारा
Transliteration: chuṭakārā
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration after Exile
Rejected alternatives: मुक्ति, मोक्ष
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER मुक्ति/मोक्ष. 31:11; extended by new term redeemer_kinsman (go’el) at 50:34.
Known By God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर ने तुम्हें जान लिया
Transliteration: Parameśvara ne tumheṃ jāna liyā
Doctrine: New Covenant
Inherited from the Galatians known_by_god pattern. Divine relational initiative, not attainment of jñāna. Parallels new terms know_relationally (जानना) and heart_to_know_me (24:7).
Promise
Approved rendering: प्रतिज्ञा
Transliteration: pratijñā
Doctrine: New Covenant / God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Rejected alternatives: वरदान, वचन (alone, ambiguous with mere spoken word)
Inherited from the Galatians promise entry exactly. वरदान forbidden — would make God’s covenant pledge merit-conditioned. Underlies 29:10-11 and 31:31-40.
Eternal Life
Approved rendering: अनन्त
Transliteration: ananta
Doctrine: New Covenant
Rejected alternatives: अमरता, सनातन
Inherited from the Galatians eternal_life word-family (अनन्त root). सनातन is separately and explicitly forbidden in this book (loaded Hindu cyclical-cosmic-order term); used to build अनन्त प्रेम (31:3) and अनन्त वाचा (32:40; 50:5).
Holy
Approved rendering: पवित्र
Transliteration: pavitra
Doctrine: Prophetic Calling and Consecration
Rejected alternatives: शुद्ध, निर्मल
Inherited from Romans package. Used at 1:5 (Jeremiah set apart before birth, हिक्दश्तिख़ा/qadash) — ties to the baseline Divine Calling doctrine.
Called
Approved rendering: बुलाए हुए
Transliteration: bulāe hue
Doctrine: Prophetic Calling and Consecration
Rejected alternatives: निमंत्रित, आमंत्रित
Inherited from Romans package. Genuine divine calling at 1:5 (Jeremiah’s own appointment) must be distinguished contextually from the misplaced human covenant-identity claim at 14:9 (‘we are called by your name’), which the book itself exposes as false security.
Calling
Approved rendering: बुलाहट
Transliteration: bulāhaṭ
Doctrine: Prophetic Calling and Consecration
Rejected alternatives: आह्वान
Inherited from Romans package.
Peace
Approved rendering: शांति
Transliteration: śānti
Doctrine: False Prophets versus True Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: चैन, सुकून
Inherited from Romans package; risk ELEVATED to High for this book. Used in the CONDEMNED, ironic false-peace formula (6:14; 8:11) — see new term false_peace_formula below — and used positively/counter-intuitively in ‘seek the welfare (shalom) of the city’ (29:7). Every ironic occurrence must be flagged so it is never read as the Bible’s own affirmation of peace.
Faith
Approved rendering: विश्वास
Transliteration: viśvāsa
Doctrine: Justice, Righteousness, and Covenant Ethics
Rejected alternatives: श्रद्धा, आस्था, भरोसा
Inherited from Romans package. Recommended (over भरोसा) for the trust-in-the-LORD antithesis at 17:5-8 (‘cursed is the man who trusts in man… blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD’) to match the baseline’s full theological weight for the object-of-trust distinction. Flag for consistency check in Phase 2.
New Covenant
Approved rendering: नई वाचा
Transliteration: naī vācā
Doctrine: New Covenant
Jeremiah 31:31. वाचा reused exactly from baseline; नई is new to this package and must signal a qualitatively NEW covenant basis (internal heart-inscription, unmediated relational knowledge, definitive judicial forgiveness), not a mere renewal/patch of the Sinai covenant. Mandatory translator note on first occurrence. This is the curriculum’s central doctrinal anchor (31:31-34; 32:37-41; 33:14-16).
Word Of The Lord
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का वचन
Transliteration: Parameśvara kā vacana
Doctrine: Inspiration and Indestructibility of God’s Word
Jeremiah 1:1-2 and throughout (the devar-YHWH formula, governing the whole book). Must denote a specific, personal, historical divine communication event to a named prophet — never the impersonal Vedic concept of vāc/shabda-brahman (cosmic sound/word-principle). Distinct from प्रतिज्ञा (promise). Reinforced at ch. 36 (Baruch’s scroll, burned and rewritten).
Divine Name Yhwh
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर / प्रभु (narrative default); यहोवा (name-focused formulas only)
Transliteration: Parameśvara / Prabhu; Yahovā
Doctrine: The Divine Name and the Lordship of YHWH
Occurs 700+ times as the ne’um-YHWH formula. LOCKED CONVENTION (ratify before Phase 2 begins): default to परमेश्वर/प्रभु for running narrative, matching baseline conventions and avoiding a jarring third divine-name term for readers already tracking परमेश्वर, प्रभु, and पवित्र आत्मा. Reserve transliterated यहोवा only for name-focused covenant formulas (e.g., 23:6, 33:16’s YHWH Tsidqenu; the ba’al/ba’alti wordplay context at 31:32). Drift from this convention across 52 chapters would fragment the Name’s consistent theological force — a major standalone quality risk distinct from any single mistranslation.
Heart
Approved rendering: हृदय
Transliteration: hṛdaya
Doctrine: New Covenant
Jeremiah 31:33 (also 4:4; 9:26; 17:9). Hebrew lev is the seat of will, intellect, and moral decision — broader than popular Hindi bhakti-hṛdaya usage, which skews toward emotion/devotion alone. Mandatory translator note clarifying the will/moral-decision sense, or the New Covenant risks reduction to sentiment.
Forgive
Approved rendering: क्षमा करना
Transliteration: salach
Doctrine: New Covenant
Jeremiah 31:34. क्षमा is prized in Hindu ethics as a human interpersonal virtue (one of the yamas); mandatory translator note distinguishing God’s judicial, once-for-all covenant pardon from the general human ethical practice.
Remember No More
Approved rendering: फिर स्मरण नहीं करना
Transliteration: lo ezkor-od
Doctrine: New Covenant
Jeremiah 31:34. Frame as a covenantal/judicial decision of will (‘no longer holding against’), never literal cognitive forgetfulness, which would contradict God’s omniscience affirmed elsewhere (23:24).
Harlotry
Approved rendering: व्यभिचार
Transliteration: zanah
Doctrine: Judgment for Covenant Unfaithfulness and Idolatry
Jeremiah 2:20; 3:1-10. Must be anchored to the covenant-marriage metaphor frame (31:32), not left as bare social-morality vocabulary for sexual sin.
Vanity Worthless Idols
Approved rendering: व्यर्थ वस्तुएँ / निकम्मे देवता
Transliteration: hevel / elilim
Doctrine: Judgment for Covenant Unfaithfulness and Idolatry
Jeremiah 2:5; 10:8. The emptiness/vanity nuance (hevel = breath/vapor/nothing; elilim = contemptuous diminutive of ‘god’) must remain explicit, not flattened into a bare ‘idol’ gloss.
Return Repent
Approved rendering: मन फिराव (theological) / लौटना (plain)
Transliteration: shuv
Doctrine: New Covenant / Judgment
3:12; 4:1; 31:18. Reuse baseline repentance (मन फिराव) wherever shuv carries the theological ‘return to God’ sense; use plain लौटना/फिरना for ordinary physical return so the two senses stay distinct.
Faithless Treacherous
Approved rendering: विश्वासघाती
Transliteration: bagad
Doctrine: Judgment for Covenant Unfaithfulness and Idolatry
3:6-11,20. Must denote covenant betrayal specifically, not generic dishonesty.
Circumcision Of Heart
Approved rendering: हृदय का खतना
Transliteration: mul levav / arelei-lev
Doctrine: New Covenant
Jeremiah 4:4; 9:25-26. Metaphorical extension of baseline खतना (circumcision) to हृदय. Must be clearly metaphorical so readers do not read a call to a second physical rite; also distinguish from everyday North Indian colloquial/Urdu-inflected use of खतना.
False Peace Formula
Approved rendering: शांति, शांति, परन्तु शांति है ही नहीं
Transliteration: shalom shalom ve’ein shalom
Doctrine: False Prophets versus True Prophecy
6:14; 8:11. Reuses baseline शांति in an IRONIC, CONDEMNED sense — the signature charge against false prophets’ false comfort. Must never read as the Bible’s own affirmation of peace. Flag every occurrence for theologian review.
Trust In Deceptive Words
Approved rendering: झूठी बातों पर भरोसा करना
Transliteration: batchu lakhem al-divrei hashaqer
Doctrine: Ritual Formalism versus Covenant Heart-Sincerity
Jeremiah 7. Rebukes reliance on the temple’s presence as a talisman divorced from covenant obedience.
Chesed Steadfast Love
Approved rendering: स्थिर प्रेम
Transliteration: chesed
Doctrine: Justice, Righteousness, and Covenant Ethics
Jeremiah 9:24, part of the chesed/mishpat/tsedaqah triad defining legitimate boasting. Must be kept distinct from both अनुग्रह (grace, baseline-reserved for unmerited favor) and दया (mercy, baseline-reserved for compassion toward the miserable) — chesed specifically denotes covenant LOYALTY, a genuinely new concept for this package.
Covenant Curse Alah
Approved rendering: श्राप
Transliteration: alah
Doctrine: The Covenant’s Curse-Sanction for Unfaithfulness
Jeremiah 11:3, the Sinai covenant’s own built-in judicial curse-sanction now falling on a covenant-breaking people (cf. Deuteronomy 27-28). Same Hindi rendering as the inherited baseline curse entry; recorded separately to preserve the specific Hebrew alah/covenant-sanction referent distinct from the Galatians atonement-curse-bearing context.
Lying Vision
Approved rendering: झूठा दर्शन
Transliteration: chazon shaqer
Doctrine: False Prophets versus True Prophecy
Jeremiah 14:14. दर्शन is a positive devotional term (auspicious beholding of a deity/guru) in Hindu practice; झूठा MUST remain an inseparable qualifier on every occurrence — the condemnation targets this specific fabricated claim, not devotional darshan-piety generally.
Intercession Forbidden
Approved rendering: प्रार्थना मत करना
Transliteration: al-titpallel
Doctrine: The Weeping Prophet and the Cost of Faithful Ministry
7:16; 11:14; 15:1. God’s rare, severe negative command forbidding Jeremiah’s intercession, dramatizing the gravity of settled judgment. Preserve the imperative force; do not soften into advisory language.
Fire In The Bones
Approved rendering: मेरी हड्डियों में जलती हुई आग
Transliteration: esh atsurah be’atsmotai
Doctrine: The Weeping Prophet and the Cost of Faithful Ministry
Jeremiah 20:9. Must retain the compulsory, God-given nature of the prophetic burden, not merely stubborn personal conviction. The definitive text for this doctrine.
Heart To Know Me
Approved rendering: मुझे जानने के लिये एक हृदय
Transliteration: lev lada’at oti
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration after Exile
Rejected alternatives: ज्ञान
Jeremiah 24:7. Direct forward-echo of 31:33-34. Must use जानना, never ज्ञान.
Yoke Of Babylon
Approved rendering: जूआ
Transliteration: ol
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Jeremiah 27. God’s own sovereign disciplinary instrument, to be SUBMITTED TO. Must be kept visibly distinct from the inherited baseline slavery/yoke_of_slavery entry (दासत्व का जूआ), which condemns a bondage to be RESISTED. Conflating the two would badly confuse learners moving between Galatians and Jeremiah curricula. Mandatory cross-reference note.
Iron Yoke
Approved rendering: लोहे का जूआ
Transliteration: ol barzel
Doctrine: False Prophets versus True Prophecy
Jeremiah 28:13. Anchors the Hananiah/Jeremiah confrontation — the book’s clearest test-case for distinguishing true from false prophetic claims (cf. Deuteronomy 18:20-22).
Seek Welfare Of City
Approved rendering: नगर की भलाई/शांति ढूँढ़ो
Transliteration: dirshu et-shelom ha’ir
Doctrine: Exile as God’s Disciplinary, Purposive Instrument
Jeremiah 29:7. शांति reused. A counter-intuitive command to actively bless the pagan oppressor-empire; must retain full force as active covenant engagement, not passive resignation.
Everlasting Love
Approved rendering: अनन्त प्रेम
Transliteration: ahavat olam
Doctrine: New Covenant
Rejected alternatives: सनातन
Jeremiah 31:3. Grounds the New Covenant in God’s own prior, unmerited, unchanging love — parallel to the baseline grace doctrine’s insistence on unmerited divine initiative; must not be read as karma-based reciprocal favor.
Nothing Too Hard For The Lord
Approved rendering: क्या यहोवा के लिये कुछ भी कठिन है?
Transliteration: hayippale mimenni kol-davar
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Jeremiah 32:17,27. Direct affirmation of Providence/Sovereignty; pairs with baseline power_of_god family.
Everlasting Covenant
Approved rendering: सदा की वाचा / अनन्त वाचा
Transliteration: berit olam
Doctrine: New Covenant / Hope of Restoration after Exile
Rejected alternatives: सनातन
Jeremiah 32:40; 50:5. वाचा reused exactly; अनन्त reused from the eternal_life word-family. सनातन FORBIDDEN — the loaded Hindu term for cyclical cosmic eternal order (‘Sanatana Dharma’); this is a personal God’s unilateral, historically-anchored promise, not an impersonal eternal law.
Cut A Covenant
Approved rendering: वाचा बाँधना
Transliteration: karat berit
Doctrine: The Covenant’s Curse-Sanction for Unfaithfulness
Jeremiah 34:18-19. Literal Hebrew idiom (‘to cut a covenant’) from a ritual of cutting an animal and passing between its severed parts; no Indian cultural analog. Natural Hindi idiom used for the verb, but a mandatory explanatory translator note on the literal ritual background is required since 34:18-19 describes it explicitly.
Day Of The Lord
Approved rendering: यहोवा का दिन
Transliteration: yom YHWH / hayyom hahu
Doctrine: God’s Sovereignty over All Nations, Not Israel Alone
Jeremiah 46:10 and throughout chs. 46-51. Must be a specific, decisive historical-eschatological day of a personal sovereign God’s action, distinct from cyclical yuga-transition or Kalki-avatar-expectation eschatology in Hindu tradition.
Redeemer Kinsman
Approved rendering: छुड़ानेवाला / उद्धारकर्ता
Transliteration: go’el
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration after Exile
Rejected alternatives: मुक्ति, मोक्ष
Jeremiah 50:34. Cross-reference the inherited baseline redemption entry (छुटकारा); never मुक्ति/मोक्ष. The kinsman-redeemer legal institution (cf. Ruth, Leviticus 25) has no Indian legal analog and needs an explanatory translator note.
Vengeance
Approved rendering: न्याय का बदला
Transliteration: naqam
Doctrine: God’s Sovereignty over All Nations, Not Israel Alone
Rejected alternatives: बदला (alone)
Jeremiah 50:15,28; 51:11. बदला alone is explicitly cautioned against in the baseline wrath_of_god entry (personal-revenge connotation); the qualifier न्याय का is MANDATORY to preserve righteous judicial vindication versus a capricious vendetta.
Commissioning Formula
Approved rendering: उखाड़ना और गिराना, बनाना और लगाना
Transliteration: nathash, haras, banah, nata
Doctrine: Jeremiah’s Commission: Judgment and Restoration Held Together
Jeremiah 1:10; 18:7-9; 24:6; 31:28; 42:10. The book’s structural key. BOTH halves (destruction and construction) must ALWAYS appear together at every recurrence; omitting either half misrepresents Restoration as detached from Judgment or vice versa.
Potter And Clay
Approved rendering: कुम्हार
Transliteration: yotser
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Jeremiah 18. Same root as ‘formed’ at 1:5, linking the potter metaphor to Jeremiah’s own personal calling. Must not be read as impersonal fatalism.
Relent Gods Responsiveness
Approved rendering: मैं अपनी योजना बदल दूँगा
Transliteration: nichamti (nacham)
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Jeremiah 18:8,10. Must be framed as relational responsiveness consistent with God’s unchanging character and justice — never divine error, mood-change, or the fickleness attributed to some deities in popular religious narrative, and never rigid impersonal fatalism either.
Medium Risk Terms
Prophet
Approved rendering: भविष्यद्वक्ता
Transliteration: bhaviṣyadvaktā
Doctrine: False Prophets versus True Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: ज्योतिषी
Inherited from Romans package. Relevance elevated in this book given the sustained False Prophets vs. True Prophecy doctrine (1:5 and throughout).
Restoration
Approved rendering: बहाली
Transliteration: bahālī
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration after Exile
Inherited from Romans package. Chapters 30-33, 52.
Mercy
Approved rendering: दया
Transliteration: dayā
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration after Exile
Inherited from Romans package. Kept distinct from अनुग्रह (grace, not heavily used in Jeremiah) and स्थिर प्रेम (chesed, new Jeremiah term for covenant loyalty). 3:12; 30:18; 31:20; 42:12.
Slavery
Approved rendering: दासत्व / दासत्व का जूआ
Transliteration: dāsatva / dāsatva kā jūā
Doctrine: Cross-curriculum disambiguation anchor
Inherited from the Galatians slavery/yoke_of_slavery entries, retained here ONLY as a disambiguation anchor. दासत्व का जूआ (bondage to be resisted) must NEVER be conflated with Jeremiah’s new term yoke_of_babylon (जूआ, disciplinary submission to be accepted). See yoke_of_babylon below for the required distinction.
Circumcision
Approved rendering: खतना
Transliteration: khatanā
Doctrine: Covenant
Inherited from Romans/Galatians package. Extended metaphorically in Jeremiah at 4:4; 9:25-26 — see new term circumcision_of_heart below.

Iniquity
Approved rendering: अपराध
Transliteration: avon
Doctrine: New Covenant
Jeremiah 31:34. Keep distinct from पाप (baseline: the act/state of sin); अपराध names the resulting guilt/liability God judicially removes.
Justice Mishpat
Approved rendering: न्याय
Transliteration: mishpat
Doctrine: Justice, Righteousness, and Covenant Ethics
5:1; 22:3; 9:24. Low collision in standard usage, but न्याय also names a classical Hindu logic/epistemology school (Nyāya darśana); a first-use gloss is prudent.
Truth Emet
Approved rendering: सच्चाई
Transliteration: emet
Doctrine: Justice, Righteousness, and Covenant Ethics
Rejected alternatives: सत्य
5:1; 9:5. Prefer सच्चाई (relational truthfulness) over सत्य to avoid the Hindu philosophical connotation of Satya as an impersonal cosmic absolute.
Den Of Robbers
Approved rendering: डाकुओं की खोह
Transliteration: me’arat paritsim
Doctrine: Ritual Formalism versus Covenant Heart-Sincerity
Jeremiah 7:11. LOCK this exact phrasing now: quoted verbatim by Jesus (Matthew 21:13; Mark 11:17; Luke 19:46) in future NT curricula, per the baseline’s shared-citation consistency rule.
Fountain Of Tears
Approved rendering: आँसुओं का सोता
Transliteration: meqor dim’ah
Doctrine: The Weeping Prophet and the Cost of Faithful Ministry
Jeremiah 9:1. Must convey personal, God-given anguish distinct from ritualized/professional hired-mourner customs common in the Indian cultural context.

Jeremiah 10:16. God as Israel’s exclusive covenant inheritance, contrasted with idols.
Leopard Spots Proverb
Approved rendering: तेंदुए के चित्तीदार दाग
Transliteration: chavarburot namer
Doctrine: New Covenant
Jeremiah 13:23 (‘can a leopard change its spots?’). Sets up the necessity of God’s own heart-change (31:33) rather than human self-reform.
Way Of Life And Death
Approved rendering: जीवन का मार्ग / मृत्यु का मार्ग
Transliteration: derekh hachayim / derekh hamavet
Doctrine: Individual Responsibility
Jeremiah 21:8, echoing Deuteronomy 30:19.
Shepherds Metaphor
Approved rendering: चरवाहे
Transliteration: ro’im
Doctrine: False Prophets versus True Prophecy
Jeremiah 23:1-4. Shepherd imagery is positive and devotionally rich in Hindu bhakti tradition (Krishna as Govinda/Gopala); flag for native speaker review so Jeremiah’s accountability/leadership-failure usage is not conflated with unrelated devotional shepherd imagery.
Massa Burden Oracle
Approved rendering: परमेश्वर का भार / परमेश्वर की वाणी
Transliteration: massa
Doctrine: False Prophets versus True Prophecy
Jeremiah 23:33-40. Untranslatable Hebrew double meaning (‘burden’ and ‘oracle’). Render sense-for-sense with a mandatory translator note stating the wordplay is lost.

Approved rendering: क्रोध का कटोरा
Transliteration: kos

Rachel Weeping
Approved rendering: राहेल अपने बच्चों के लिये रो रही है
Transliteration: Rachel mevakkah al-baneha
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration after Exile
Jeremiah 31:15. LOCK this exact phrasing now: quoted verbatim in a future Matthew curriculum (2:18), per the baseline’s shared-citation consistency rule.
Scroll
Approved rendering: पुस्तक / पत्र
Transliteration: megillah
Doctrine: Inspiration and Indestructibility of God’s Word
Jeremiah 36:2. Low-collision object noun; theological weight is carried by the surrounding narrative (Jehoiakim’s burning and God’s rewriting of the scroll), reusing word_of_the_lord.
Word Fulfilled
Approved rendering: वचन पूरा हुआ
Transliteration: mille’ / qiyyem
Doctrine: False Prophets versus True Prophecy
Jeremiah 39 (thematic, cf. chs. 23, 27-28). Historical fulfillment as the book’s own authentication test for true prophecy (cf. Deuteronomy 18:20-22); must not be softened into a vague ‘eventually came true.‘
Inquire Of The Lord
Approved rendering: यहोवा से पूछना / खोजना
Transliteration: darash et-YHWH
Doctrine: Individual Responsibility
Jeremiah 42:2. A sincerity-test motif: professed desire for guidance later shown insincere when the answer given is rejected (ch. 43).

Approved rendering: सारी पृथ्वी का हथौड़ा
Transliteration: pattish kol-ha’arets

Watchman
Approved rendering: पहरुआ
Transliteration: tsofeh

Jeremiah 6:17. Figure for the prophet’s warning office; the people’s refusal to heed the watchman is the point of the metaphor.
Sign Act Boiling Pot Almond
Approved rendering: उबलती हुई कड़ाही / बादाम की शाखा
Transliteration: sir naphuach / maqqel shaqed
Doctrine: Inspiration and Indestructibility of God’s Word
Jeremiah 1:11-13. The Hebrew shaqed/shoqed (‘almond’/‘watching’) wordplay confirming God’s active ‘watching’ over his word is untranslatable in Hindi; flag for a translator note rather than attempting a Hindi equivalent pun.
Certificate Of Divorce
Approved rendering: त्याग-पत्र / तलाक़नामा
Transliteration: sefer keritut
Doctrine: The Covenant as Marriage: Divine Husband and Unfaithful Bride
Jeremiah 3:8 (cf. Deuteronomy 24:1). Legal/cultural background for the marriage-covenant metaphor; a brief explanatory note is recommended for comprehension.
Good And Bad Figs
Approved rendering: अच्छे अंजीर / बुरे अंजीर
Transliteration: te’enim tovot / ra’ot
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration after Exile
Jeremiah 24. Reverses expectation: the exiled community, not those who avoided exile, are the recipients of hope.
Low Risk Terms

Rejected alternatives: भविष्यफल
Inherited from Romans package.

Approved rendering: घमण्ड
Transliteration: ghamaṇḍa
Doctrine: The Weeping Prophet and the Cost of Faithful Ministry

Approved rendering: गिलियाद का बलसान / चिकित्सक
Transliteration: tsori beGil’ad / rofe
Doctrine: Judgment for Covenant Unfaithfulness and Idolatry

Transliteration: shiv’im shanah
Doctrine: Hope of Restoration after Exile
Jeremiah 25:11; 29:10. Judgment is severe but explicitly time-bound, not open-ended.

Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plans for His People
Jeremiah 18. Low-collision concrete noun; the pliable material shaped by the potter’s purpose.
