Semantic Analysis

Semantic Analysis — Jude (Koine Greek → Hindi)

Book Profile and Scope Note

Jude is a single-chapter, 25-verse letter. Per the PRD full-book-coverage mandate, this document analyzes every verse of the book’s only chapter, first to last. The core passage (Jude 1:3-23) receives full verse-by-verse treatment. The salutation (1:1-2) and closing doxology (1:24-25), which frame the core passage but fall outside its stated boundary, are covered in Part 2 with the same rigor, so that the entirety of Jude — all 25 verses — is documented. Because Jude has no second chapter, Part 3 states explicitly that full-book coverage is thereby complete; no chapter has been silently omitted.

Terms already fixed in the baseline Romans/Galatians translation_memory.json are reused exactly as recorded and are marked “TM: reused” below. New terms coined for Jude are marked “TM: new — proposed for addition.”

PART 1: CORE PASSAGE VERSE-BY-VERSE (Jude 1:3-23)

Jude 1:3

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
agapētoi
”loved ones”
term of affectionate pastoral address
”beloved,” “dear friends”
Marks the letter’s warmth even amid its polemic; recurs at 1:17, 1:20 framing the whole exhortation.प्रिय (priya). TM: new — proposed addition. Low risk; standard epistolary address, no collision.
koinēs sōtērias
”common/shared salvation”
salvation held jointly by all believers, not an individually-attained state
”common salvation,” “salvation we share”
Salvation (σωτηρία) is the baseline Critical term. “Common” stresses it is one salvation shared by the whole church, not a private spiritual attainment graded by merit.समान उद्धार (samāna uddhāra). उद्धार is TM: reused (Critical, baseline). समान is new modifier. High risk — must not be softened toward an individually-earned, gradated attainment (which would echo karma-merit gradation); the sharedness of the one salvation is doctrinally load-bearing.
epagōnizesthai
”to contend/struggle as in an athletic contest”
vigorous, strenuous exertion; agonistic combat/contest metaphor
”contend earnestly,” “fight for,” “strive”
This is the letter’s thesis verb: believers must actively, strenuously defend the given faith against corrupting infiltrators. Not passive assent.विश्वास के लिये प्राणपण से यत्न करना (viśvāsa ke liye prāṇapaṇa se yatna karanā — “to strive with all one’s strength for the faith”). TM: new — proposed addition. Critical risk: this is the book’s programmatic verb (doctrine: Contending for the Faith). A weak rendering (“think about,” “consider”) would erase the letter’s entire polemical purpose. Must retain vigorous contest-imagery without drifting into violent-conflict connotations inappropriate to doctrinal defense.
hapax paradotheisē
”having been handed down/entrusted once (for all)“
a completed, unrepeatable act of transmission; a fixed, closed deposit
”once for all delivered,” “once entrusted”
Establishes the faith as a fixed, historically-completed deposit, not an evolving tradition open to fresh revision or personal spiritual discovery. Directly undercuts India’s “many paths, ongoing revelation” pluralism. TM: new — proposed addition. Critical risk, structurally identical to the baseline truth_of_the_gospel concern: must not be softened to “handed down” in a way that permits ongoing addition or a guru-lineage (parampara) reading where each generation may add revelation.
tois hagiois
”to the saints/holy ones”
recipients of the deposit; the whole believing community
”the saints,” “God’s holy people”
Reuses the corporate, non-ascetic sense of sainthood.पवित्र जन (pavitra jana). TM: reused exactly (High, baseline). Never संत (ascetic holy man).
pistei
”faith”
the body of belief entrusted; also personal trust
”the faith,” “faith”
Here πίστις denotes the objective body of apostolic doctrine (fides quae), not merely subjective trust — a nuance the translator must hold alongside the baseline’s trust-in-a-person sense.विश्वास (viśvāsa). TM: reused exactly (High, baseline). Note for translators: in 1:3 and 1:20 πίστις leans toward the content entrusted, not only personal trust; context (सौंपा गया, “entrusted”) must make this objective sense clear.

Jude 1:4

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
pareisedysan
”slipped/crept in stealthily alongside”
covert, unauthorized infiltration
”crept in unnoticed,” “slipped in”
The false teachers are insiders by appearance, infiltrators by intent — sets up the letter’s warning about internal corruption, not external persecution. TM: new. Medium risk; must preserve the covert-infiltration nuance, not a generic “arrived.”
progegrammenoi eis touto to krima
”designated/written down beforehand for this judgment/sentence”
prior divine appointment to a specific judicial verdict
”designated beforehand for condemnation,” “marked out for judgment”
Parallels the baseline’s predestination pattern — but applied to reprobation, not election. Must not read as karmic destiny; this is a personal God’s judicial pre-determination of a specific, evil-doing group’s verdict. Modeled on TM predestination (पहले से ठहराया जाना) + condemnation (दण्ड की आज्ञा), both baseline Critical/High terms. High risk — auto-escalation trigger per baseline election/predestination rule; must avoid
asebeis
”impious, irreverent toward God”
lacking due reverence/devotion to God; morally and religiously godless
”ungodly,” “impious,” “godless”
The letter’s defining epithet for the false teachers (recurs 1:15,18). Distinct from generic πάπा/sin — this is a reverence deficiency toward God specifically, the letter’s central diagnostic category (doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers).अभक्त (abhakta — “devotion-lacking, irreverent”). TM: new — proposed addition. High risk. Rejected alternatives: अधर्मी (retains the forbidden धर्म morpheme the baseline systematically avoids — see baseline theology entry precedent); पापी (too generic, collapses “ungodly” into ordinary “sinner” and loses the reverence-deficiency nuance central to Jude’s argument).
charin…eis aselgeian
”grace…into licentiousness/sensuality”
turning an unmerited gift into a license for unrestrained immorality
”grace into license,” “grace into sensuality”
The letter’s paradigm case of grace-perversion: exactly the danger the baseline’s nullify_the_grace_of_god entry guards against, now applied to moral license rather than legalism.अनुग्रह (TM: reused exactly, Critical/High baseline — never कृपा here) को लुचपन में बदल देना. लुचपन (lucapana, “licentiousness/debauchery”) is TM: new. High risk — this is a grace/works-adjacent auto-escalation trigger: any drift making अनुग्रह ambiguous here would blunt the letter’s central moral warning.
ton monon despotēn kai kyrion
”the only Master/Sovereign and Lord”
absolute ownership-authority (δεσπότης, cf. slave-master) paired with κύριος’s supreme-authority sense; μόνον asserts exclusivity
”our only Sovereign and Lord,” “our only Master and Lord”
A double exclusivity title. δεσπότης is a distinct Greek word from κύριος (not a synonym-substitution), so both must appear in Hindi as two terms, preserving the emphatic doubling and the μόνον (“only”) polemic against any rival lord/deity. प्रभु is TM: reused exactly (Critical, baseline lord). स्वामी is used here only because it renders a genuinely separate Greek word (δεσπότης) standing beside κύριος in this verse — it does not substitute for the baseline’s प्रभु entry, whose rejection of स्वामी addressed a different situation (κύριος alone). Critical risk: the एकमात्र (“only”) must not be dropped; this is the letter’s exclusivity claim, directly relevant to India’s religious pluralism.
arnoumenoi
”denying”
rejecting, disowning, refusing to acknowledge
”denying,” “disowning”
The false teachers’ practical (not necessarily verbal) denial of Christ’s lordship through their conduct. TM: new. Medium risk; standard vocabulary, no major collision, but must not be softened to mere “disagreeing with.”

Jude 1:5

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
hypomnēsai
”to remind”
to bring back to mind something already known
”to remind,” “to remind you once more”
Jude appeals to shared, settled knowledge (the OT record), not new revelation — anchoring his warning in received history.स्मरण कराना (smaraṇa karānā). TM: new. Low risk.
sōsas
”having saved”
deliverance from a specific peril (here, Egypt) by a personal divine act
”saved,” “delivered,” “rescued”
Verb form of the baseline Critical salvation family; historical, once-for-all rescue by God’s initiative, the type behind the letter’s later “save others” (1:23).Verb form of उद्धार (TM: reused root, Critical, baseline salvation) — rendered here as बचाया (bacāyā). Critical risk: must not be rendered with मुक्ति/मोक्ष-adjacent vocabulary; this is historical divine rescue of a covenant people, not liberation from a cosmic cycle.
tous mē pisteusantas apōlesen
”destroyed those who did not believe”
judicial destruction consequent on unbelief
”destroyed those who did not believe”
Establishes the letter’s first OT type: covenant privilege (rescue from Egypt) does not exempt from judgment where faith fails — directly parallel to the false teachers’ presumption. विश्वास is TM: reused (High, baseline). High risk — the faith/judgment link must remain explicit; do not generalize into a bare “they died.” Textual note (non-doctrinal): some manuscripts read Ἰησοῦς rather than κύριος as the subject; this is a textual-critical matter to flag for theologian review, not a translation-choice risk per se.

Jude 1:6

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
angelous
”angels”
created spirit-messengers serving God
”angels”
The second OT/extra-biblical type: rebellious angels, not just rebellious humans, fall under judgment — escalates the letter’s warning to a cosmic scale.स्वर्गदूत (svargadūta). TM: new — proposed addition. High risk: must be kept as created, personal spirit-beings under God’s sovereign rule, categorically distinct from Hindu देवता (demigods with independent divine status/worship-worthiness). A translator note distinguishing स्वर्गदूत from देवता is advisable on first use.
tēn heautōn archēn
”their own realm/position/first-place”
assigned rank, domain of authority, or “first place” (ἀρχή’s range)
“their own domain,” “their proper place/position”
The angels’ sin was abandoning their divinely-assigned station — a rebellion of rank, not merely relocation.अपना पद (apanā pada — “their own position/office”). TM: new. Medium-High risk; must convey a divinely-assigned rank abandoned in rebellion, not a neutral “place” or “territory.”
to idion oikētērion
”their own dwelling-place”
proper, assigned habitation
”their proper dwelling,” “their own home”
Reinforces the rank-abandonment: they left where God had stationed them. TM: new. Medium risk.
desmois aïdiois…hypo zophon
”with eternal chains…under gloom/darkness”
fixed, unending confinement in darkness
”eternal chains, under darkness”
Establishes the fixedness and finality of angelic judgment — a template for the false teachers’ coming judgment. अनन्त reuses the baseline eternal_life-family morpheme (ananta); अंधकार reuses the baseline armor_of_light pairing term. Medium-High risk — the fixedness (अनन्त, not temporary) must not be lost; avoid any suggestion of a purgation period ending in release, which would drift toward cyclical/temporary-hell frameworks.
tetērēken eis krisin megalēs hēmeras
”he has kept [them] for the judgment of the great day”
preserved/reserved in a fixed custodial state awaiting a specific future verdict-day
”kept for the judgment of the great day”
The letter’s thematic verb τηρέω (“keep”) used ironically of judgment-custody — the same verb that describes believers being kept for salvation (1:1,21,24) here describes the fallen angels kept for judgment: the same divine power, opposite outcome depending on the object’s standing. रखा है (“kept”) is TM: new — proposed as the anchor rendering for τηρέω across the whole letter (see also 1:1, 1:13, 1:21, 1:24). न्याय (nyāya, “judgment”) is TM: new, distinct from the baseline Critical condemnation (दण्ड की आज्ञा) which names a specific verdict; न्याय names the judicial process/day. Critical risk for रखा जाना: this verb is Jude’s structural spine (doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless) and must be rendered identically at every occurrence, whether of angels reserved for judgment or of believers kept for glory — the consistency itself carries the letter’s rhetorical force (same divine keeping-power, opposite destinies).

Jude 1:7

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
Sodoma kai Gomorra
proper names
the OT cities destroyed for gross sin
”Sodom and Gomorrah”
The third OT type of judgment: covenant-outsiders whose gross, willful sin brought decisive, visible destruction — a public “example” (δεῖγμα). TM: new — proposed addition using established Hindi Bible transliteration. Low risk (proper names).
ekporneusasai
”having engaged in gross sexual immorality”
intensified/compounded form of πορνεύω — thoroughgoing sexual sin
”indulged in gross immorality,” “gave themselves over to sexual sin”
Names the specific character of Sodom’s sin as the type being warned against — echoed in the false teachers’ own sensuality (1:4,8). TM: new. Medium risk.
sarkos heteras
”flesh of another/different kind”
sexual pursuit outside the created order (often understood as same-sex relations, or relations with non-human/angelic beings)
“strange flesh,” “unnatural desire”
This σάρξ usage is concrete/sexual, not the abstract Romans/Galatians σάρξ-versus-Spirit antithesis; it names a specific, disordered sexual pursuit as the ground of Sodom’s judgment. शरीर is TM: reused (High baseline flesh), but flagged with a translator note: here it names concrete sexual transgression, not the Pauline flesh/Spirit antithesis. Medium-High risk — flag for combined theologian and native speaker review (sexual-ethics content; honor/shame-sensitive per baseline routing rule).
deigma
”example, specimen, sample”
a public, visible demonstration set forth as a warning
”an example,” “a warning example”
Sodom stands as a displayed, ongoing warning-sign, not merely a past event. TM: new. Low-Medium risk.
pyros aiōniou
”of eternal fire”
fixed, unending punitive fire
”eternal fire”
Establishes fixed, final judgment (paired with the fallen angels’ eternal bonds, 1:6) — not a temporary purgative suffering.अनन्त आग (ananta āga). अनन्त reuses the established eternal_life-family morpheme. High risk: avoid नरक (a term carrying, in popular Hindu usage, associations of a temporary hell endured before rebirth/karma-exhaustion); अनन्त आग must communicate fixed, non-cyclical, final judgment.
dikēn hypechousai
”undergoing punishment”
bearing a judicial penalty
”suffering punishment,” “undergoing punishment”
The present participle stresses ongoing, displayed suffering as an object lesson. TM: new. Medium risk.

Jude 1:8

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
enypniazomenoi
”dreaming, being dreamers”
acting on visionary/dream-based (false) claims to authority
”dreamers,” “relying on their dreams”
Suggests the false teachers claimed visionary legitimacy for their immoral conduct — a counterfeit-revelation claim.स्वप्न देखनेवाले (svapna dekhanevāle). TM: new. Medium risk; should not be confused with legitimate biblical dream-revelation (e.g., Joseph, Daniel) — context must mark this as a false claim.
sarka…miainousin
”defile the flesh”
moral/sexual self-corruption of the body
”defile the flesh,” “defile their bodies”
Continues the concrete-sexual σάρξ usage from 1:7 — bodily/moral defilement through indulged sin. शरीर is TM: reused (see the 1:7 flesh note above). Medium-High risk (same guardrails as 1:7).
kyriotēta athetousin
”reject/set aside authority/lordship”
dismissing legitimate governing authority (likely Christ’s, possibly also angelic/civil order)
“reject authority,” “despise dominion”
Direct affront to the Lordship theme (κύριος-root) running through the letter; these teachers reject the very authority the letter insists must be confessed and obeyed. TM: new. High risk — κυριότης shares the κύριος root; keep this connection audible where possible so the rejection-of-lordship theme is not lost.
doxas…blasphēmousin
”revile/blaspheme glorious ones”
speaking abusively against exalted spiritual beings (likely angels, possibly demonic powers)
“revile glorious ones,” “speak abusively of celestial beings”
An obscure but important term: δόξαι here likely denotes angelic beings of rank, whom the false teachers arrogantly slander (contrasted with Michael’s restraint in 1:9). महिमा is TM: reused (High baseline glory). Medium-High risk; flag for theologian review — the referent (angelic beings vs. human authorities) is exegetically debated and must not be flattened.

Jude 1:9

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
Michaēl ho archangelos
”Michael the archangel”
a named angel of chief rank
”Michael the archangel”
Provides the contrast-figure to the false teachers: even the highest angel restrains himself from reviling the devil, unlike the teachers who casually revile glorious beings. TM: new — proposed addition. Medium risk (proper name + rank-title; establish consistent rendering for ἀρχάγγελος as प्रधान स्वर्गदूत).
tō diabolō
”the devil, slanderer”
the personal chief adversary of God and humanity
”the devil”
Names a real, personal fallen being, not an abstract principle of evil.शैतान (śaitāna). TM: new — proposed addition, using the established Hindi Christian transliteration. Medium risk: must remain a personal fallen spirit-being, distinct from generic Hindu “asura” categories or impersonal evil-force concepts.
diakrinomenos dielegeto
”disputing, arguing/contending”
formal contention/argument over a matter
”disputed,” “contended,” “argued”
Describes a genuine, serious dispute over Moses’ body (drawing on extra-biblical Jewish tradition), not a casual disagreement. TM: new. Medium risk.
Mōuseōs sōmatos
”the body of Moses”
Moses’ corpse, subject of the dispute
”the body of Moses”
References a tradition (not directly narrated in the OT) about a dispute over Moses’ burial — requires background gloss for readers unfamiliar with intertestamental Jewish literature. मूसा is TM: reused (baseline proper name). Medium risk; needs a background note for readers, similar to the baseline’s seed_of_david OT-background requirement.
ouk etolmēsen krisin epenegkein blasphēmias
”did not dare bring a reviling judgment/accusation”
restrained, deferential refusal to pronounce a slanderous verdict even against the devil
”did not dare pronounce a reviling judgment,” “did not dare bring a slanderous accusation”
Models restraint even toward a defeated, evil being — a rebuke by contrast to the false teachers’ casual slander of glorious beings (1:8). TM: new. Medium-High risk; the restraint-motif must come through clearly.
Epitimēsai soi kyrios
”the Lord rebuke you”
an invocation of divine authority to rebuke, rather than personal condemnation
”The Lord rebuke you”
Michael appeals to the Lord’s own authority rather than exercising personal judgment — reinforces exclusive divine prerogative to judge, echoing Zechariah 3:2. प्रभु is TM: reused exactly (Critical, baseline). Medium risk; established idiomatic rendering.

Jude 1:10

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
blasphēmousin
”they revile/blaspheme”
speaking abusively/slanderously
”revile,” “slander,” “speak abusively of”
Reiterates the false teachers’ pattern of reviling what they do not understand (contrasted with Michael’s restraint in 1:9). TM: new (consistent with 1:8-9 rendering). Medium risk.
aloga zōa
”irrational/unreasoning creatures/animals”
beasts lacking rational faculty
”unreasoning animals,” “irrational creatures”
The false teachers are compared to instinct-driven animals — self-condemning imagery, since they claim spiritual insight yet act on mere appetite.अबोध पशु (abodha paśu — “unreasoning/mindless animals”). TM: new. Low-Medium risk.
physikōs…epistantai
”understand by natural instinct”
knowledge limited to bare instinctual appetite
”understand by instinct,” “know by natural impulse”
Their only real “knowledge” is base appetite, not spiritual insight — undercutting their pretensions to superior enlightenment. TM: new. Medium risk.
phtheirontai
”are destroyed/corrupted”
ruin, decay, moral and ultimately eschatological corruption
”are destroyed,” “are corrupted,” “perish”
Signals both present moral corruption and impending judgment — the same fate as the animals they resemble. TM: new. Medium risk.

Jude 1:11

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
ouai
”woe”
a prophetic pronouncement of impending doom/judgment
”woe,” “how terrible”
Formal prophetic judgment-formula, echoing OT prophetic denunciations — signals the gravity of what follows. TM: new. Medium risk; must retain the weight of a formal judgment-oracle, not a mild expression of pity.
tē hodō tou Kaïn
”the way of Cain”
Cain’s pattern of self-willed, worship-rejecting, murderous conduct
”the way of Cain”
First of three OT-figure types naming the false teachers’ spiritual lineage — self-assertion against God and against a brother. कैन is TM: new — proposed addition (established Hindi Bible transliteration). Medium risk; needs OT background gloss (Genesis 4), per the baseline’s seed_of_david-pattern precedent for OT-background terms.
tē planē tou Balaam…misthou
”the error of Balaam…for profit/reward”
Balaam’s mercenary corruption of prophetic ministry for personal gain
”the error of Balaam for profit,” “Balaam’s mercenary error”
Names greed-driven false ministry as a type — directly relevant to the false teachers’ profit-motive (cf. 1:16’s “flattering for gain”). बलाम is TM: new (established transliteration). Medium risk; OT background gloss needed (Numbers 22-24, 31:16).
tē antilogia tou Korē
”the rebellion/contradiction of Korah”
organized rebellion against divinely-appointed authority
”the rebellion of Korah,” “Korah’s rebellion”
Names rebellion against legitimate God-given authority as the third type — apt for teachers who reject κυριότης (1:8). कोरह is TM: new (established transliteration). Medium risk; OT background gloss needed (Numbers 16).
apōlonto
”perished”
definitive destruction/judgment
”perished,” “were destroyed”
Confirms that all three OT types ended in judgment — the destiny awaiting the false teachers. TM: new (consistent with baseline judgment vocabulary). Medium risk.

Jude 1:12

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
en tais agapais
”at the love-feasts”
early church communal fellowship meals, often linked to the Lord’s Supper
”love feasts,” “agape meals”
Names a specific ecclesial practice the false teachers exploit and corrupt from within — reinforces the letter’s “infiltrators” theme (1:4).प्रेम-भोज (prema-bhoja). TM: new — proposed addition. Medium risk: distinguish from Hindu community feast/prasad customs, which carry ritual-merit associations; प्रेम-भोज is a shared fellowship meal grounded in Christ’s love, not a merit-conferring ritual offering.
spilades
”hidden reefs” (or possibly “blemishes/stains,” a textual/lexical ambiguity)
dangerous submerged rocks threatening shipwreck; alternatively, moral stains
”hidden reefs,” “blemishes”
Vivid nautical-danger imagery (or, on the alternative reading, moral-contamination imagery) — either way, names the false teachers as a lurking threat within the fellowship meal.छिपी हुई चट्टानें (chipī huī caṭṭāneṃ — “hidden rocks/reefs”). TM: new. Medium risk; record the lexical ambiguity (reefs vs. blemishes) as alternatives_considered per the ambiguity-handling protocol.
heautous poimainontes
”shepherding themselves”
self-serving leadership, feeding themselves rather than the flock
”shepherding only themselves,” “feeding only themselves”
A pointed inversion of the shepherd-image — these are false shepherds who consume rather than care for the flock. TM: new. Medium risk.
nephelai anydroi, dendra akarpa, dis apothanonta ekrizōthenta
”waterless clouds; fruitless trees, twice-dead, uprooted”
images of promised-but-unfulfilled expectation and of terminal, hopeless barrenness
”clouds without water,” “fruitless trees, twice dead, uprooted”
A cascading series of nature-images naming the false teachers as promise without substance and as beyond-recovery barren — note the deliberate contrast with the baseline’s positive fruit_of_the_spirit imagery (φρούτ‑bearing as the mark of the Spirit) — these men bear no fruit at all. निष्फल वृक्ष, जो दो बार मर चुके और जड़ से उखड़ गए हैं (jala rahita bādala… niṣphala vṛkṣa, jo do bāra mara cuke aura jaḍa se ukhaṛa gae haiṃ). TM: new. Low-Medium risk; keep vivid and concrete; no direct doctrinal collision, but should echo (by contrast) the established फल-family imagery from the baseline fruit_of_the_spirit entry without confusing the two.

Jude 1:13

kymata agria thalassēs…epaphrizonta tas heautōn aischynas
”wild sea-waves…foaming up their own shames”
violent, uncontrolled waves that churn up filth/shame as foam
”wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame”
Continues the nature-image cascade: their public conduct churns up visible shame, an image with strong resonance in an honor/shame culture. TM: new. Medium risk; flag for native speaker review given the honor/shame dynamics (per baseline routing rule).
asteres planētai
”wandering stars”
stars/heavenly bodies (or possibly meteors/planets) that do not keep a fixed course
”wandering stars”
Ancient astronomical image of instability and lightless deviation from a fixed path — apt for teachers who have departed from the “once for all delivered” fixed faith (1:3). TM: new. Low-Medium risk.
ho zophos tou skotous eis aiōna tetērētai
”the gloom of darkness has been kept/reserved for [them] forever”
fixed, permanent destiny of darkness, using the letter’s keeping-verb (τηρέω) again, now ironically of judgment rather than preservation for glory
”for whom the blackest darkness has been reserved forever”
The third occurrence of τηρέω (see 1:1, 1:6) — here reserving darkness for the false teachers, structurally mirroring and inverting the keeping-for-glory promised to believers (1:24). अंधकार reuses the established baseline pairing term; रखा गया reuses the anchor रखा-family rendering proposed for τηρέω (see 1:6 note). Critical risk for consistency: this must use the same कept-verb family as 1:1, 1:6, 1:21, and 1:24 so the reader perceives the deliberate structural irony Jude intends.

Jude 1:14-15

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
Henōch…hebdomos apo Adam
”Enoch…seventh from Adam”
genealogical marker establishing Enoch’s antiquity and authenticity as a prophetic figure
”Enoch, the seventh from Adam”
Jude cites 1 Enoch (an extra-canonical Jewish text) as containing a true prophetic word — a notable canonical-boundary question requiring theologian handling; the citation authenticates the prophecy’s content without necessarily canonizing the source-book itself. हनोक/आदम are TM: new (established transliterations). High risk — flag explicitly for theologian review regarding the doctrine of Inspiration of Scripture (baseline inspiration_of_scripture, High): Jude’s citation of non-canonical material must be handled so as not to imply the source-book (1 Enoch) is itself inspired Scripture, while still affirming the truthfulness of the specific prophetic word cited.
eprophēteusen
”prophesied”
delivered a God-given prophetic pronouncement
”prophesied”
Reuses the baseline prophecy category. TM: reused (Low, baseline prophecy/prophet family).
ēlthen kyrios en hagiais myriasin autou
”the Lord came with his holy ten-thousands”
a prophetic/proleptic vision of the Lord’s future judgment-coming accompanied by a vast retinue of holy beings
”the Lord comes with ten thousand of his holy ones,” “with his holy myriads”
The judgment-coming (parousia-adjacent language) of the Lord — the letter’s clearest eschatological judgment-scene, grounding the whole warning in a specific coming event, not endless cyclical ages. प्रभु and पवित्र are TM: reused (Critical/High baseline). High risk; flag for theologian review as an eschatological judgment text.
poiēsai krisin…elegxai
”to execute judgment…to convict/expose”
to carry out a judicial verdict and to expose/reprove wrongdoing
”to execute judgment…to convict”
Combines verdict-execution with exposure of specific deeds and specific words spoken against God — total, comprehensive judgment. न्याय is TM: new (see 1:6 note). High risk.
pantas tous asebeis…ergōn asebeias…ēsebēsan
”all the ungodly…deeds of ungodliness…they acted ungodly”
fourfold repetition of the ἀσεβ- root, intensifying the charge
”all the ungodly ones…ungodly deeds…ungodly acts they committed”
The dense repetition of ἀσέβεια-root words is rhetorically deliberate — Jude piles up the term to stress the totality of the charge; the Hindi must likewise repeat अभक्त/अभक्ति consistently to preserve this rhetorical density. अभक्त/अभक्ति is TM: new (see 1:4 note). High risk — the rhetorical repetition must be preserved, not smoothed into varied synonyms.
tōn sklērōn hōn elalēsan kat’ autou
”the harsh things which they spoke against him”
insolent, defiant speech directed at God
”the harsh things they have spoken against him”
Adds verbal defiance (blasphemous speech against God) to the charge of ungodly deeds — words, not only actions, are judged. TM: new. Medium risk.

Jude 1:16

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
gongystai, mempsimoiroi
”grumblers, faultfinders”
chronic, discontented complaint against one’s lot/against others
”grumblers, faultfinders”
Echoes Israel’s wilderness grumbling — links the false teachers to another OT type of covenant-community rebellion. TM: new. Low-Medium risk.
kata tas epithymias autōn poreuomenoi
”walking/proceeding according to their own desires/lusts”
governed by self-generated appetite rather than divine direction
”following their own desires,” “walking after their own lusts”
Echoes the baseline flesh entry’s note on ἐπιθυμία-phrases (शरीर की अभिलाषाएँ); here explicitly self-referential (“their own”), stressing autonomy from God as the driving principle. अभिलाषा reuses the baseline flesh-entry’s established sinful-desire phrase pattern. Medium-High risk; keep this consistent with the baseline’s शरीर की अभिलाषाएँ usage so the two passages read as thematically linked.
stoma…lalei hyperogka
”mouth speaks bombastic/swollen things”
grandiose, arrogant, self-inflating speech
”mouths speak great swelling words,” “arrogant boasting speech”
Ties to the baseline boasting (घमण्ड) entry — verbal self-exaltation as a mark of the false teachers. घमण्ड is TM: reused (Low baseline boasting). Low-Medium risk.
thaumazontes prosōpa ōpheleias charin
”admiring/flattering faces for the sake of profit”
insincere flattery motivated by personal gain
”flattering people for their own advantage,” “showing favoritism for profit”
Echoes Balaam’s mercenary corruption (1:11) — the profit-motive theme recurs as the practical engine behind the teachers’ flattery and false teaching. TM: new. Medium risk.

Jude 1:17-18

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
mnēsthēte tōn rēmatōn…tōn apostolōn
”remember the words…of the apostles”
recalling authoritative, previously-given apostolic teaching
”remember the words spoken by the apostles”
Anchors the warning in established apostolic prediction, not novel speculation — believers are told this was foreseen and taught in advance. प्रेरित is TM: reused exactly (Medium baseline apostle); प्रभु and यीशु मसीह are TM: reused (Critical). Low-Medium risk.
ep’ eschatou [tou] chronou
”in the last time”
the final eschatological era preceding Christ’s return
”in the last times,” “in the last days”
An eschatological time-marker; the coming of mockers is itself a predicted sign of this final era. TM: new. Medium-High risk: must not be assimilated to Hindu yuga-cycle “end of an age” concepts (e.g., the end of Kali Yuga followed by cyclical renewal); this “last time” is linear and terminal, leading to final judgment (1:14-15), not a cycle restarting.
empaiktai
”mockers, scoffers”
those who deride and ridicule with contempt
”mockers,” “scoffers”
The specific predicted sign: derisive scorn toward the faith and its promises, a recognizable end-time marker.उपहास करनेवाले (upahāsa karanevāle). TM: new. Medium risk.
kata tas heautōn epithymias poreuomenoi tōn asebeiōn
”walking according to their own ungodly desires”
self-governed by irreverent appetite (combining ἐπιθυμία and ἀσέβεια roots)
“following their own ungodly lusts”
Combines two of the letter’s central diagnostic categories (self-willed desire + ungodliness) into a single closing description of the mockers. Combines TM: new अभक्त with the established अभिलाषा pattern. High risk for consistency with 1:4, 1:15-16, 1:18 vocabulary.

Jude 1:19

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
apodiorizontes
”causing separations/divisions”
creating factional splits within the community
”cause divisions,” “create factions”
Names the false teachers’ practical church-dividing effect — they fracture the “common salvation” community (1:3) from within.फूट डालनेवाले (phūṭa ḍālanevāle). TM: new. Medium risk.
psychikoi
”soulish, natural” (from ψυχή, “soul/life”)
governed by mere natural human life-principle, without the Spirit’s presence; contrasted with πνευματικός (“spiritual”) elsewhere in the NT
”worldly-minded,” “sensual,” “merely natural,” “devoid of the Spirit’s life”
A sharp anthropological diagnosis: these people operate on the level of mere natural human existence, lacking the Spirit’s indwelling life — this is the letter’s most theologically loaded anthropological term.सांसारिक स्वभाव के (sāṃsārika svabhāva ke — “of worldly/natural disposition”). TM: new — proposed addition. Critical risk: ψυχικός could be mishandled by analogy to popular Hindu tripartite anthropology (sthūla śarīra/physical body, sūkṣma śarīra or “psychic” level, ātman/eternal soul), producing a false parallel in which “ψυχικός” is heard as “operating at the soul/subtle-body level” — a category error, since biblical ψυχικός denotes deficiency (lacking the Spirit), not a legitimate intermediate spiritual tier. A mandatory translator note distinguishing this from any tiered-selfhood framework is required.
pneuma mē echontes
”not having [the] Spirit”
lacking the indwelling Holy Spirit
”not having the Spirit,” “devoid of the Spirit”
The diagnostic conclusion: these are professing members of the community who, by their divisive and worldly conduct, show they do not actually possess the Holy Spirit — a severe, church-discipline-relevant judgment.आत्मा here = पवित्र आत्मा (TM: reused exactly, Critical, baseline holy_spirit) — rendered जिनमें पवित्र आत्मा नहीं है (jinameṃ Pavitra Ātmā nahīṃ hai). Critical risk: must be unambiguous that this denies possession of the personal Holy Spirit (third Person of the Trinity), not a claim about the person’s own ātman/soul being absent (a philosophically impossible claim in Hindu frameworks and therefore a likely source of reader confusion if the referent is not pinned down explicitly).

Jude 1:20-21

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
epoikodomountes heautous
”building yourselves up”
constructing/strengthening oneself upon a foundation, corporate self-edification
”building yourselves up,” “building each other up”
The positive counter-command to the false teachers’ destructive divisiveness (1:19) — believers actively construct spiritual strength together. TM: new, though conceptually adjacent to baseline mutual_edification (परस्पर उन्नति). Medium risk.
tē hagiōtatē hymōn pistei
”your most holy faith”
the superlative-intensified, sacred, entrusted body of belief (echoing 1:3’s ἅπαξ παραδοθείσῃ πίστει)
“your most holy faith”
Directly recalls 1:3’s “faith once for all delivered” — the foundation on which believers build themselves up is this same fixed, holy deposit. पवित्र and विश्वास are both TM: reused exactly (High, baseline). High risk for consistency: must echo 1:3’s rendering so the reader perceives the deliberate verbal link between the letter’s opening command and this closing exhortation.
en Pneumati Hagiō proseuchomenoi
”praying in the Holy Spirit”
Spirit-empowered, Spirit-directed prayer
”praying in the Holy Spirit”
Positions Spirit-enabled prayer as a defense against the ψυχικοί/spiritless condition of 1:19 — the antidote to spiritlessness is Spirit-filled prayer. पवित्र आत्मा is TM: reused exactly (Critical, baseline). Consistency with 1:19 essential.
heautous…tērēsate
”keep yourselves”
an imperative form of the letter’s keeping-verb (τηρέω), now addressed to believers as a responsibility
”keep yourselves,” “keep yourselves in”
The believers’ active responsibility, held in tension with 1:24’s declaration that God himself is able to keep them — human responsibility and divine preservation held together without contradiction. रखो (apane āpako…rakho), using the same रखना-family verb proposed as the anchor रखा-rendering for τηρέω throughout the letter (see 1:1, 1:6, 1:13, 1:24). Critical risk: this must use the identical verb-family as the letter’s other τηρέω occurrences, so that the human-imperative (1:21, “keep yourselves”) and the divine-declarative (1:24, “he is able to keep you”) are audibly the same verb in Hindi — this pairing is the doctrinal heart of “Kept by God and Presented Blameless”: God’s keeping does not eliminate, but grounds and enables, the believer’s own watchfulness.
en agapē theou
”in the love of God”
the sphere/state of abiding in God’s own love
”in the love of God”
Names the sphere within which believers keep themselves — not their own effort in isolation, but abiding within God’s prior love. परमेश्वर is TM: reused exactly (Critical, baseline). प्रेम is established baseline vocabulary (cf. brotherly_love). Low-Medium risk.
prosdechomenoi to eleos…eis zōēn aiōnion
”awaiting the mercy…unto eternal life”
expectant, hopeful waiting for a future, certain mercy leading to eternal life
”waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, which leads to eternal life”
Mercy here is future-oriented and certain — not anxious hoping, but confident expectation grounded in Christ’s character; leads directly into eternal life, reusing the baseline Galatians term. दया is TM: reused (Medium baseline mercy); अनन्त जीवन is TM: reused exactly (High, baseline eternal_life). High risk; the confident, expectant nuance (not anxious uncertainty, which would echo karmic uncertainty about a future rebirth) must come through — this is assured hope, not fatalistic waiting.

Jude 1:22-23

(Textual note: the Greek manuscript tradition varies here — some witnesses read a threefold group [“some…doubting; some…snatch from fire; some…with fear”], others a twofold group. Flag for theologian review as a text-critical matter; the theological substance — differentiated pastoral response combining mercy and urgency — is stable across variants.)

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
eleate
”have mercy on, show mercy to”
active compassion extended toward the vulnerable
”have mercy on,” “be merciful to”
Reuses the baseline mercy category, now directed pastorally toward wavering believers rather than described as God’s own attribute — mercy becomes an active duty of the community. दया is TM: reused exactly (Medium baseline mercy). High risk in this context: this is the doctrine “Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering” — the tone must remain compassionate and rescue-oriented, never contemptuous, toward those who waver.
diakrinomenous
”those who are doubting/disputing/wavering”
those in a state of internal uncertainty or contention, wavering in conviction
”those who are doubting,” “those who waver,” “those who dispute”
Names a category distinct from the hardened false teachers — genuinely wavering believers who need compassionate rescue, not condemnation. TM: new — proposed addition. High risk: must be read as sincere wavering deserving compassionate rescue, not moral failure deserving contempt, and must not be assimilated to a karma-based “insufficient effort” framing; God’s mercy actively reaches toward these waverers.
sōzete ek pyros harpazontes
”save, snatching [them] out of the fire”
urgent, forceful rescue from imminent danger
”save others, snatching them out of the fire”
Combines the baseline Critical salvation-verb with vivid rescue-urgency imagery — echoing the “eternal fire” of 1:7 as the danger from which the wavering must be snatched. बचाओ reuses the उद्धार-family verb (Critical, baseline salvation). Critical risk: this is urgent, active rescue by fellow believers, mirroring God’s own rescuing character; must not be softened into passive concern.
eleate en phobō
”have mercy with fear”
compassion tempered by appropriate reverent caution (regarding contamination by sin, not fear of the person)
“have mercy, mixed with fear,” “show mercy with caution”
The fear here is reverent self-caution against being drawn into the same sin, not fear of the wavering person — a nuance requiring care in translation. Medium-High risk; a translator note clarifying the referent of “fear” (caution against sin’s contamination, not contempt or terror toward the person) is advisable.
misountes…ton…espilōmenon chitōna
”hating…the garment stained/polluted [by the flesh]“
vivid ritual-purity-adjacent imagery of contamination, applied metaphorically to moral corruption
”hating even the garment polluted by the flesh,” “abhorring even the corrupted garment”
A striking image (possibly echoing Levitical purity concerns) applied to moral, not ceremonial, contamination — used again to warn against the sin’s corrupting influence extending even to what merely touches it. शरीर is TM: reused (see 1:7-1:8 flesh note — again the concrete moral-defilement sense, not the Pauline flesh/Spirit antithesis). Medium risk; flag for native speaker review to ensure the image does not accidentally invoke Hindu ritual-purity (śuddhi) categories rather than moral contamination.

PART 2: REMAINDER OF CHAPTER 1 — SALUTATION AND DOXOLOGY

Jude 1:1-2 (Salutation)

TermsVariantsContextual theological meaningHindi rendering / risk
Ioudas…doulos
”Jude…a slave/servant”
self-designation as a bond-servant of Christ, humble authoritative office
”Jude…a servant/slave”
Author’s self-identification not by apostolic title but as Christ’s bond-servant, echoing James’s and Paul’s similar self-designations. यहूदा (proper name) and दास (servant/slave, consistent with baseline deacon-family सेवक/सेविका morpheme) are TM: new. Low risk.
adelphos…Iakōbou
”brother…of James”
familial/covenant identification, likely James the Lord’s brother
”brother of James”
Establishes Jude’s identity and, indirectly, his authority as connected to a recognized leader of the Jerusalem church. TM: new (established proper name and kinship term). Low risk.
tois…ēgapēmenois
”to those having been loved”
perfect passive — a settled, completed state of being loved by God
”to those who are loved,” “to those beloved”
Describes recipients’ secure standing as objects of God’s own settled love, prior to and grounding everything that follows. प्रिय is TM: new (see 1:3 note); परमेश्वर and पिता are TM: reused exactly (Critical, baseline). Low-Medium risk.
Iēsou Christō tetērēmenois
”kept for/by Jesus Christ”
first occurrence of the letter’s keeping-verb (τηρέω), describing believers’ secure custody in Christ from the opening line
”kept for Jesus Christ,” “kept by Jesus Christ”
The letter’s very first descriptive clause about its recipients uses τηρέω — establishing “being kept” as the frame within which the whole letter’s warnings and exhortations operate; the letter that will warn extensively about judgment opens by affirming believers are already, securely, kept. (Yīśu Masīha ke liye rakhe gae haiṃ), using the same रखा-family verb proposed for τηρέω throughout (see Part 1 notes at 1:6, 1:13, 1:21, 1:24). Critical risk — this is the letter’s opening statement of the doctrine “Kept by God,” and must use the identical verb-family that will recur at the letter’s climax (1:24), forming an inclusio (bookend structure) around the whole letter.
klētois
”called ones”
those who have received God’s effectual summons
”the called”
Reuses the baseline effectual-calling category. TM: reused exactly (High, baseline called). Sense here = effectual calling to salvation, per the baseline’s third documented sense.
eleos…eirēnē…agapē plēthyntheiē
”mercy…peace…love, may it be multiplied”
a compound epistolary blessing invoking abundant increase of three relational graces
”mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you”
Standard but weighty epistolary greeting-formula, combining three major relational categories as the letter’s opening prayer for its recipients. दया and शांति are TM: reused exactly (Medium baseline). प्रेम is established baseline-family vocabulary. Low-Medium risk.

Jude 1:24-25 (Doxology)

ability/power to protect from a hazard (φυλάσσω, a near-synonym of τηρέω used for emphasis/variety at the letter’s climax)
“to him who is able to keep,” “to the one who is able to guard”
The letter’s climactic statement: after 24 verses of warning, the final word is confident doxology — God himself, not human effort, is the one able to secure the outcome believers were commanded to pursue (1:21). रखने में समर्थ है (jo tumheṃ…rakhane meṃ samartha hai), using the same रखना-family verb as the letter’s other τηρέω/φυλάσσω occurrences for consistency (see 1:1, 1:6, 1:13, 1:21). Critical risk: this closes the letter’s inclusio (bookended with 1:1’s “kept for Jesus Christ”) and is the capstone statement of the doctrine “Kept by God and Presented Blameless” / “God’s Preserving Power” — must not be rendered with any vocabulary suggesting the believer’s own accumulated merit secures the outcome.
aptaistous
”without stumbling”
free from falling/tripping; secure, unfailing
”from stumbling,” “without falling”
Echoes the baseline’s stumbling_stone family (ठोकर) — here God’s power, not the believer’s own strength, prevents the fall. ठोकर is TM: reused (baseline stumbling_stone-family term). Medium-High risk; keep this term family consistent.
stēsai katenōpion tēs doxēs autou
”to present/set [you] in the very presence of his glory”
to place someone standing, secure, directly before God’s own glorious presence
”to present you in the presence of his glory”
The believer’s ultimate destination: not annihilation into an impersonal glory/light, but being presented, as a distinct standing person, before God’s own personal glory. महिमा is TM: reused exactly (High baseline glory). Critical risk: must preserve the believer as a distinct person presented before God’s glory, not absorbed into it — guarding against any drift toward the baseline’s documented advaitic-absorption concern (cf. baseline christ_lives_in_me guardrails), now applied to the believer’s final destiny rather than present union.
amōmous
”blameless, without blemish”
free of moral defect or fault, often used of sacrificial animals without physical defect
”blameless,” “faultless,” “without fault”
Names the believer’s ultimate perfected moral state, achieved by God’s own presenting act, not self-attained righteousness — directly parallel to the baseline glorification entry’s guardrail against any merit-based or self-achieved perfection reading.निर्दोष / निष्कलंक (nirdoṣa / niṣkalaṅka). TM: new — proposed addition, conceptually paired with the baseline glorification Critical risk: this must read as God’s gracious accomplishment presented to the believer, never as a state the believer achieves through disciplined effort or accumulated merit (which would reintroduce a karma-adjacent reading directly contrary to Jude’s grace-versus-license argument in 1:4).
en agalliasei
”with great joy/exultation”
intense, overflowing joy/rejoicing
”with great joy,” “with exceeding joy”
The emotional register of the believer’s final presentation — not somber duty-fulfillment but exultant joy. TM: new. Low-Medium risk.
monō theō sōtēri hēmōn
”to the only God, our Savior”
exclusivity claim (μόνος) applied to God as the singular, unique Savior
”to the only God our Savior”
A direct exclusivity/monotheistic doxological claim — echoing 1:4’s μόνον δεσπότην — asserting there is no other savior-God, directly confronting India’s pluralistic religious assumption of multiple valid divine saviors/paths. परमेश्वर is TM: reused exactly (Critical baseline). उद्धारकर्ता (uddhārakartā, “Savior”) is TM: new — proposed addition, built on the Critical baseline उद्धार root. Critical risk: एकमात्र (“only”) must be retained without softening; this is a direct polemic against religious pluralism, structurally parallel to the baseline’s false_gospel/truth_of_the_gospel exclusivity concerns.
dia Iēsou Christou tou kyriou hēmōn
”through Jesus Christ our Lord”
mediatorial agency — glory is given to God through Christ specifically
”through Jesus Christ our Lord”
Names Christ as the sole mediating agent through whom God’s saving glory is accomplished and through whom the doxology itself is offered. प्रभु and यीशु मसीह are TM: reused exactly (Critical baseline). Low risk.
doxa megalōsynē kratos kai exousia
”glory, majesty, dominion, and authority”
a fourfold doxological formula ascribing maximal divine attributes
”glory, majesty, dominion, and power/authority”
The letter’s closing ascription piles up near-synonymous terms of supreme divine attribute for rhetorical weight — standard doxological form, reused across NT closing benedictions. महिमा is TM: reused exactly (High baseline glory); महानता, पराक्रम, अधिकार are TM: new. Medium-High risk; keep terminologically consistent with the baseline doxology entry (महिमा-गान) register.
pro pantos tou aiōnos kai nyn kai eis pantas tous aiōnas
”before all the age(s), and now, and unto all the ages”
eternity stretching backward before any created time and forward through unending future time
”before all time, and now, and forever”
A comprehensive eternity-formula: God’s glory is not confined to, or renewed within, any bounded temporal cycle — it precedes, spans, and outlasts all ages entirely.सब युगों के पहले से, अब, और सदा सर्वदा — with an important caution: αἰών/αἰῶνας should NOT be rendered युग in this formula. TM: new — proposed addition: सदा सर्वदा (sadā sarvadā, “forever and ever”) / अनन्तकाल तक (anantakāla taka). High risk flag (new insight for this curriculum): युग (yuga) carries strong, specific Hindu cosmological associations with the four cyclically-recurring cosmic ages (Satya, Treta, Dvāpara, Kali Yuga), which repeat endlessly. Rendering αἰῶνας as युग in a doxological eternity-formula risks implying God’s glory is itself bound within, or coextensive with, a repeating cosmic cycle — the opposite of the linear, unending eternity the Greek asserts. Prefer अनन्तकाल/सदा सर्वदा consistently in all eternity-formulas across this curriculum.
amēn
”amen”
liturgical affirmation
”amen”
Standard closing affirmation. TM: reused exactly (Low, baseline amen).

PART 3: FULL-BOOK COVERAGE CONFIRMATION

Jude consists of a single chapter of 25 verses. Parts 1 and 2 above have together analyzed every verse of the book, 1:1 through 1:25, with no verse silently omitted. Because there is no second chapter, full-book coverage of Jude is thereby complete within this document — there is no additional chapter requiring a “no new theological vocabulary” notation, as would be the pattern for a multi-chapter book. All load-bearing theological terms in Jude have been documented above, cross-referenced against the baseline Romans/Galatians translation memory where applicable, and flagged with risk tiers for Phase 2 routing.

Structural note for Phase 2 processing: Jude is built as an inclusio around the verb τηρέω (“keep/guard”): the letter opens by declaring believers “kept for Jesus Christ” (1:1), turns midway to describe rebellious angels “kept for judgment” (1:6) and darkness “kept” for the wandering stars (1:13), commands believers to “keep yourselves” in God’s love (1:21), and closes by ascribing to God alone the power to “keep” believers from stumbling (1:24). All five occurrences must use the same Hindi verb-family (रखा जाना / रखना) so that this deliberate structural device — the letter’s central theological argument that divine keeping-power, not human merit, secures the believer against the same judgment that fell on the ungodly — remains visible to the Hindi reader.
