Core Glossary
08 Core Glossary — 1 Timothy (English → Manipuri)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, drawn from all six chapters of 1 Timothy. Terms already fixed in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked REUSED and their recorded rendering is repeated here unchanged for reference — it must never be re-derived or altered. New terms specific to 1 Timothy are marked NEW and are provisional pending the confirmations noted (native speaker / theologian review) required before Phase 2 deployment, per the risk-tier review-routing rules of the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json.

Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
| Term | Original (Greek) | Manipuri | Transliteration | Risk | Notes / Rejected Alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sound doctrine | ὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία | ফজরবা তম্বিরোল | phajaraba tambirol | High | Central organizing term (1:10; 4:6; 6:3); must be used with total consistency. |
| False/different doctrine | ἑτεροδιδασκαλία | অতোপ্পা তম্বিরোল তম্বিবা | atoppa tambirol tambiba | High | 1:3. |
| Myths | μῦθοι | থোইদোকপা ৱারী | thoidokpa wari | Critical | 1:4; 4:7. Rejected: any term suggesting a blanket judgment on puya narrative tradition or Vaishnava Puranic Krishna-lila material — must be framed as targeting a specific speculative first-century error, not traditional narrative heritage generally. Mandatory theologian framing note in every use. |
| Endless genealogies | γενεαλογίαι ἀπέραντοι | চা-চাহিগী লোইনগদবা ৱারী | cha-chahigi loinngadaba wari | Medium | 1:4. Built on established চা-চাহি (seed_of_david root). |
| Depart from the faith | ἀποστήσονταί … τῆς πίστεως | থাজবদগী থোকপা | thajabadagi thokpa | High | 4:1; apostasy. |
| Deceiving spirits / doctrines of demons | πνεύματα πλάνα / διδασκαλίαι δαιμονίων | লাইরাংশিংগী তম্বিরোল | lairangshinggi tambirol | Critical | 4:1. MANDATORY theologian review before every teaching use — see full caution in 07_semantic_analysis.md Ch.4; risk of being heard as condemning the entire Umang Lai/Sanamahi spirit-world category rather than a specific ascetic-dualist error. |
| Forbidding marriage / abstaining from foods | κωλυόντων γαμεῖν, ἀπέχεσθαι βρωμάτων | লুহোংবা থিংবা, চাক-থাক থিংবা | luhongba thingba, chak-thak thingba | High | 4:3. Must be paired with 4:4-5’s goodness-of-creation teaching; not a blanket verdict on fasting/dietary restraint in any tradition. |

| Quietness / submission (public teaching context) | ἡσυχία, ὑποταγή | ইনবা, ইনগৎপা | inba, ingatpa | Critical/High | 2:11-12. Mandatory theologian review; pastoral-care framing required given complex Manipuri gender-role context (cf. Ima Keithel women’s public economic role). |
| Saved through childbearing | σωθήσεται διὰ τῆς τεκνογονίας | মশাবু ঙাক্তুনা থম্বিগনি | masha-bu ngaktuna thambigani | Critical | 2:15. NEVER render with অহানবা (soteriological salvation) — distinct sense (preserved/kept safe), not salvation-from-sin. Risk of resonance with fertility-vow practices (Umang Lai/Vaishnava). Mandatory theologian review + translator’s note every occurrence. |
Doctrine: The Church as Pillar of Truth
| Term | Original (Greek) | Manipuri | Transliteration | Risk | Notes / Rejected Alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Content = the six-line Christ-hymn; restates Incarnation/Deity of Christ/Resurrection/Ascension — REUSE all fixed Romans-baseline renderings for those sub-doctrines exactly. |

Rejected: ভক্তি (Vaishnava bhakti devotional-love-service) and any Sanamahi ritual-piety/purification term. Requires dedicated theologian teaching note at first occurrence. |
| Godliness is a means of gain (false view) | πορισμὸν εἶναι τὴν εὐσέβειαν | তেংবাং মপুবু ইকাই খুম্নবা ফংবগী মথৌ ওইনা খন্বা | … phangbagi mathou oina khanba | High | 6:5. Doctrine: Guarding the Deposit of Faith

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guard the deposit | τὴν παραθήκην φύλαξον | থাজবগী থম্বিবা ঙাকপা | thajabagi thambiba ngakpa | Critical | 6:20. The letter’s climactic charge. Must not evoke maibi ritual-object guardianship or the 1729 Puya Meithaba lost-manuscript memory as a fragile relic; teach as guarding a living, openly transmitted apostolic doctrine. Mandatory theologian review. |

Part C — Cross-Cutting Cluster: Purity/Holiness Word-Family Disambiguation
1 Timothy uses at least three distinct Greek roots that English commonly flattens to “holy/pure,” each requiring a distinguishable Manipuri rendering to prevent doctrinal blurring:
| Greek root | Occurrences | English gloss | Manipuri | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ἅγιος (hagios) | (not directly re-occurring as an isolated noun/adj. in 1 Tim outside compound contexts) | holy | অসেংবা (asengba) | REUSED from Romans baseline; reserve for moral/relational set-apartness. |
| ὅσιος (hosios) | 2:8 | holy, devout, dutifully pious | থৌজালনা লেপ্না (thoujalna lepna) descriptor, or context-specific rendering | New nuance: reverent, dutiful piety in a specific ritual-conduct context (posture in prayer). |
| ἁγνός (hagnos) | 5:22 | pure, chaste | শেংবা-adjacent but distinct: মশা শেংনা থম্বা (masha shengna thamba) | Personal moral purity; শেংবা itself remains reserved per baseline for physical/ritual cleanliness. |
Native speaker review recommended for this three-way disambiguation before Phase 2 deployment, since English translations often collapse all three into “holy,” risking loss of this distinction in Manipuri if not deliberately preserved.
Part D — Risk Tier Summary for 1 Timothy New Terms
| Risk Tier | Count (new terms) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 11 (one mediator, one God, mystery of godliness, saved through childbearing, godliness, deposit-guarding, doctrines of demons, myths [contextual], King of kings/Lord of lords, quietness/submission in 2:11-12, women/deacons ambiguity 3:11) | Human theologian — mandatory |
| High | 24 | Human theologian |
| Medium | 22 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 9 | Automated review sufficient |
This risk profile is materially heavier at the Critical tier than the Romans baseline’s per-book proportion, reflecting 1 Timothy’s dense concentration of church-office, exclusivist-mediator, and godliness-vocabulary doctrines that collide directly with both live Manipuri religious traditions. All Critical-tier entries above must be routed to human theologian review before any Phase 2 segment translation using them is finalized, per the escalation rules already established in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.

Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs 1:2,14; 6:21. Part of the expanded 1:2 salutation triad (grace, mercy, peace).
Righteousness

Transliteration: achumba chatnabirak
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ধর্ম (Hindu-derived cosmic/religious duty, avoid)

Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged root. At 3:16 (‘justified/vindicated in the Spirit’) the same word-family is applied Christologically to Christ’s own resurrection-vindication, NOT to believers’ justification from sin — flag every 3:16 occurrence for theologian review to prevent a misreading implying Christ needed justification.

Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: মোক্ষ (Vaishnava liberation, never use), লাইনিং (devotional union/absorption, never use)

MUST NEVER be used for 2:15’s ‘saved through childbearing’ clause — see saved_through_childbearing entry, a distinct, non-soteriological sense.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: থাওয়াই অসেংবা
Transliteration: Thawai Asengba
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: bare থাওয়াই (generic spirit/soul, extends to ancestral/Umang Lai spirits in Sanamahi belief, never use alone), শক্তি (maibi trance-power, never use)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs throughout 1 Timothy (1:1-2,17; 2:3,5; 3:15-16; 4:10; 6:13-16), including the CRITICAL 2:5 monotheism statement ‘εἷς θεός’ (one God) — see one_god entry.
Lord
Approved rendering: মপু ইবুংগো
Transliteration: Mapu Ibungo
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ঠাকুর (Krishna-specific devotional title, never use)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs throughout 1 Timothy of Christ. Undergirds the CRITICAL 6:15 title ‘King of kings and Lord of lords’ — see king_of_kings entry.
Jesus
Approved rendering: জিসু
Transliteration: Jisu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs throughout 1 Timothy.
Messiah
Approved rendering: ক্রিস্তো
Transliteration: Christo
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs throughout 1 Timothy paired with জিসু.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: মীওইগী মহৈ লৌবা
Transliteration: miwoigi mahai louba
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: অবতার (never use)
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Reused verbatim within the 3:16 Christ-hymn’s ‘manifested in the flesh’ line. NEVER use অবতার, per the Ras Lila avatar-theology risk documented in the Romans baseline.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: সিবদগী হিংজত-লকপা
Transliteration: sibadagi hingjat-lakpa
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: পুনর্জন্ম (rebirth/reincarnation, never use)
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Underlies the 3:16 Christ-hymn’s resurrection-adjacent ‘vindicated in the Spirit’/‘taken up’ lines and the eternal_life doctrine’s contrast with reincarnation at 6:12,19. NEVER use পুনর্জন্ম.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা
Transliteration: Tengban Mapugi machanupa
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: অবতার (never use)
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Underlies the deity-of-Christ dimension of the 3:16 Christ-hymn and the 6:15 King-of-kings doctrine.
Father
Approved rendering: ইপা
Transliteration: Ipa
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Not titled explicitly as a separate term in 1 Timothy but implied in the 1:2 greeting formula.
Myths
Approved rendering: থোইদোকপা ৱারী
Transliteration: thoidokpa wari
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Rejected alternatives: any rendering suggesting a blanket judgment on puya narrative tradition or Vaishnava Puranic Krishna-lila material
Original: μῦθοι
Category: Sound Doctrine
CRITICAL: occurs 1:4; 4:7 (‘irreverent, silly myths’). Targets a specific first-century speculative false teaching, NOT a verdict on the puya sacred-narrative tradition (destroyed in the 1729 Puya Meithaba, a live point of Meitei cultural grief) or the Vaishnava Puranic Krishna-lila narrative tradition celebrated through Ras Lila. Mandatory theologian framing note required at every teaching use.
Doctrines Of Demons
Approved rendering: লাইরাংশিংগী তম্বিরোল
Transliteration: lairangshinggi tambirol
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Rejected alternatives: any rendering that would blanket-classify all Meitei traditional lai/Umang Lai spirit-beings as demonic
Original: διδασκαλίαι δαιμονίων
Category: Sound Doctrine
CRITICAL: occurs 4:1. Risks being heard as a direct condemnation of the entire class of spirit-beings (lai) recognized within Sanamahi cosmology, including the actively-revived Umang Lai forest deities honored at Lai Haraoba. The passage’s actual target is a specific first-century ascetic-dualist teaching (forbidding marriage, requiring food abstinence, 4:3), not a general classification. Mandatory human theologian review with careful, non-inflammatory framing at every use.
Deceiving Spirits
Approved rendering: থোয়ৌনগদবা থাওয়াইশিং
Transliteration: thoyaungadaba thawaishing
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Original: πνεύματα πλάνα
Category: Sound Doctrine
NEW. Occurs 4:1, paired with doctrines_of_demons; carries the identical dual-tradition caution and mandatory theologian-review requirement.
Guard The Deposit
Approved rendering: থাজবগী থম্বিবা ঙাকপা
Transliteration: thajabagi thambiba ngakpa
Doctrine: Guarding the Deposit of Faith
Rejected alternatives: any rendering evoking a maibi/maiba’s guardianship of sacred ritual objects, any rendering evoking the 1729 Puya Meithaba lost-manuscript memory as a fragile, irrecoverable relic
Original: τὴν παραθήκην φύλαξον
Category: Sound Doctrine
CRITICAL: occurs 6:20, the letter’s climactic charge. Must be taught as guarding a living, openly transmitted apostolic body of doctrine passed on through teaching, not a physical relic, a secret esoteric teaching, or an object whose loss would constitute an irrecoverable rupture — a distinction of particular sensitivity given the 1729 Puya Meithaba’s live place in Meitei cultural memory. Mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence.
One God
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপু অমত্তা
Transliteration: Tengban Mapu amatta
Doctrine: Christ as the One Mediator
Rejected alternatives: any rendering softened to ‘our God’ or ‘God is greatest’ permitting a functionally polytheistic reading
Original: εἷς θεός
Category: Christ as the One Mediator
CRITICAL: occurs 2:5, cf. 1:17; 6:15-16. Must be taught unambiguously against BOTH Gaudiya Vaishnavism’s plural divine framework (Vishnu, Krishna’s avatars, the wider pantheon) and Sanamahism’s plural deity structure (Sanamahi, Pakhangba, the Umang Lai). Never softened.
One Mediator
Approved rendering: মরক্তা লেপ্লিবা অমত্তা
Transliteration: marakta lepliba amatta
Doctrine: Christ as the One Mediator
Rejected alternatives: any maibi/maiba ritual-intermediation term, any Vaishnava guru-parampara/dīkṣā mediation term, any devotional-intercessor figure term, e.g. Radha-as-intercessor
Original: εἷς μεσίτης
Category: Christ as the One Mediator
CRITICAL: named curriculum doctrine, occurs 2:5. Must categorically exclude all rival intermediary figures active in the Meitei religious landscape: the maibi/maiba, the Vaishnava guru, and any devotional intercessor figure. Requires theologian-level teaching material contrasting this explicitly and respectfully with these live alternatives, not merely asserting it in isolation.
Quietness Submission
Approved rendering: ইনবা, ইনগৎপা
Transliteration: inba, ingatpa
Doctrine: Public Worship and Prayer
Rejected alternatives: unexamined Western debate framings imported wholesale
Original: ἡσυχία, ὑποταγή
Category: Public Worship and Prayer
CRITICAL: occurs 2:11-12, among the most theologically and pastorally contested passages in the letter. Manipuri context has its own complex, non-Western gender dynamics (e.g. the prominent public economic role of women in the Ima Keithel market alongside patrilineal clan/yumnak structures); rendering and teaching material must not import unexamined Western debate framings wholesale nor flatten into either uncritical restriction or uncritical dismissal. Render ὑποταγή consistently with its 3:4 occurrence. Mandatory human theologian review with explicit pastoral-care framing.
Saved Through Childbearing
Approved rendering: মশাবু ঙাক্তুনা থম্বিগনি
Transliteration: masha-bu ngaktuna thambigani
Doctrine: Public Worship and Prayer
Rejected alternatives: অহানবা (the soteriological salvation term — MUST NEVER be used here)
Original: σωθήσεται διὰ τῆς τεκνογονίας
Category: Public Worship and Prayer
CRITICAL: occurs 2:15. MUST NOT use the soteriological salvation term (অহানবা), which would contradict the letter’s Christ-alone soteriology (1:15; 2:3-6). Compounded by fertility-vow practices — petitions to the Umang Lai via a maibi, or devotional vows at a Vaishnava temple for offspring — which a soteriologically-worded rendering could resemble. Mandatory human theologian review and translator’s note at every occurrence.
Mystery Of Godliness
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুবু ইকাই খুম্নবগী অথুম্বা ৱারোল
Transliteration: Tengban Mapubu ikai khumnabagi athumba warol
Doctrine: The Church as Pillar of Truth
Original: τὸ τῆς εὐσεβείας μυστήριον
Category: Church as Pillar of Truth
CRITICAL: occurs 3:16. The six-line Christ-hymn restates already-Critical Romans-baseline doctrines (Incarnation, Deity of Christ, Resurrection, Ascension) in summary/creedal form; every fixed Romans-baseline rendering MUST be reused exactly (incarnation, resurrection, gentiles, glory entries above). The ‘mystery’ is revealed, not esoteric, truth.
Godliness
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুবু ইকাই খুম্নবা
Transliteration: Tengban Mapubu ikai khumnaba
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Rejected alternatives: ভক্তি (Vaishnava bhakti devotional-love-service to Krishna, never use), any Sanamahi ritual-piety/purification observance term toward Sanamahi/Pakhangba/the Umang Lai, never use
Original: εὐσέβεια
Category: Godliness and Contentment
CRITICAL: the single most theologically load-bearing new term in 1 Timothy (2:2 implied; 3:16; 4:7-8; 5:4; 6:3,5,6,11). Biblical godliness is the practical, whole-life fruit of sound apostolic doctrine, not a devotional emotion, ritual observance, or merit-building practice. Requires a dedicated theologian-authored teaching note at first occurrence, and the same contrastive note must be repeated at every subsequent chapter’s occurrence, not stated once only.
King Of Kings
Approved rendering: লৈপাক্কী লৈপাকশিংগী লৈপাক অমসুং মপুশিংগী মপু
Transliteration: leipakki leipakshinggi leipak amasung mapushinggi mapu
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Rejected alternatives: any framing resonant with the historic Meitei ningthou royal-divine-descent political theology of Pakhangba lineage
Original: βασιλεὺς τῶν βασιλευόντων καὶ κύριος τῶν κυριευόντων
Category: Godliness and Contentment
CRITICAL: built on the inherited মপু ইবুংগো root. Occurs 6:15. Must not resonate with the historic Pakhangba-descent royal-divine political theology, as though Christ were merely the supreme instance of a similar royal-divine class; Christ’s kingship is categorically, uniquely supreme.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: নুংঙাইবগী পাউ
Transliteration: nungngaibagi pao
Doctrine: Gospel
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs 1 Timothy 1:11 (‘the glorious gospel of the blessed God’).
Faith
Approved rendering: থাজবা
Transliteration: thajaba
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: ভক্তি (bhakti, too specific to Vaishnava devotional practice)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Pervasive throughout 1 Timothy (1:1-19; 3:9,13; 4:1,6; 5:8; 6:10-12,21). Also used adjectivally as a personal-character trait (‘trustworthy,’ 3:11) — render থাজরবা (thajaraba, trustworthy) distinctly from থাজবা (thajaba, faith) by context; do not add as a separate TM entry, handle via context note.
Savior
Approved rendering: অহানবিরিবা
Transliteration: ahanbiriba
Doctrine: Christ as the One Mediator
Original: σωτήρ
Category: Salvation
NEW compound built on the inherited অহানবা root. Occurs 1:1; 2:3; 4:10 (‘God our Savior’). Must be taught alongside ‘Christ Jesus our hope’ (1:1) so the Trinitarian shape of salvation in 1 Timothy is not lost, and alongside the CRITICAL one_mediator/one_god doctrine of 2:5.
Sin
Approved rendering: পাপ
Transliteration: pap
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Original: ἁμαρτία / ἁμαρτωλός
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs 1:9,15 (‘Christ Jesus came to save sinners’); 5:22,24 (sins publicized/hidden).
Holy
Approved rendering: অসেংবা
Transliteration: asengba
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: শেংবা (physical/ritual cleanliness only, do not use for moral holiness)
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. 1 Timothy uses two ADDITIONAL, distinct Greek purity roots (ὅσιος, hosios, 2:8; ἁγνός, hagnos, 5:22) that must NOT be rendered with this same term — see lifting_holy_hands and keep_pure entries for their separate renderings. Reserve অসেংবা strictly for ἅγιος occurrences.
Glory
Approved rendering: মতিক চাউবা
Transliteration: matik chauba
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs 1:11,17; 3:16 (‘taken up in glory’); 6:16 (unapproachable light). Avoid Ras Lila divine-radiance staging resonance.
Abba
Approved rendering: আব্বা
Transliteration: Abba
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Not directly re-occurring in 1 Timothy but retained for cross-curriculum consistency should supplementary teaching material reference Romans 8.
Sound Doctrine
Approved rendering: ফজরবা তম্বিরোল
Transliteration: phajaraba tambirol
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Original: ὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία
Category: Sound Doctrine
NEW. Central organizing category of the whole letter (1:10; 4:6; 6:3). Must be used with total consistency across the curriculum. Requires a teaching note restoring the ‘healthy body vs. diseased body’ metaphor (ὑγιαίνω) lost in a flat ‘good teaching’ gloss.
False Doctrine
Approved rendering: অতোপ্পা তম্বিরোল তম্বিবা
Transliteration: atoppa tambirol tambiba
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Original: ἑτεροδιδασκαλέω
Category: Sound Doctrine
NEW. Occurs 1:3; 6:3, the letter’s opening and closing command. Must retain the sense of a specific, identifiable doctrinal deviation from apostolic teaching, not vague disagreement.
Depart From Faith
Approved rendering: থাজবদগী থোকপা
Transliteration: thajabadagi thokpa
Doctrine: Departing from the Faith (Apostasy)
Original: ἀποστήσονταί τινες τῆς πίστεως
Category: Sound Doctrine
NEW compound using the inherited থাজবা root. Occurs 4:1. Connects to Sound Doctrine and Guarding the Deposit doctrines; must be preserved without softening into ordinary doubt or moral failure.
Mystery Of The Faith
Approved rendering: থাজবগী অথুম্বা ৱারোল
Transliteration: thajabagi athumba warol
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Rejected alternatives: any esoteric-initiation-style term paralleling maibi Lai Haraoba trance-secrets or Vaishnava guru-parampara dīkṣā teaching
Original: μυστήριον τῆς πίστεως
Category: Sound Doctrine
NEW compound using the inherited থাজবা root. Occurs 3:9. Must be sharply distinguished from esoteric-initiation frameworks. The gospel’s ‘mystery’ is revealed truth openly proclaimed to all, the functional opposite of privileged esoteric knowledge.
Irreverent Babble False Knowledge
Approved rendering: থোইদোকপা ৱারী অমসুং মিং তকপা খংবগী য়াইফম-ৱারী
Transliteration: thoidokpa wari amasung ming takpa khangbagi yaifam-wari
Doctrine: Guarding the Deposit of Faith
Original: βέβηλοι κενοφωνίαι καὶ ἀντιθέσεις τῆς ψευδωνύμου γνώσεως
Category: Sound Doctrine
NEW. Occurs 6:20, reusing থোইদোকপা ৱারী established at 1:4. Relevant to any competing esoteric-knowledge claim; teach discernment about doctrinal content, not that ‘knowledge’ as such is suspect.
Devil Slanderer
Approved rendering: সয়তান / ৱার খায়বা
Transliteration: Satan / war khaiba
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Rejected alternatives: any Meitei traditional malevolent nature-spirit or ancestral-spirit category, never conflate
Original: διάβολος
Category: Sound Doctrine
NEW. Occurs 3:6-7 (noun, Satan’s title) and 3:11 (adjective, ‘not slanderers,’ of deacons’/deacon-wives’ speech) — a Greek wordplay (διάβολος as both noun and adjective) that cannot be reproduced lexically in Manipuri. Use two distinct terms and record a translator’s note on the lost wordplay wherever both occur near each other. [CONFIRM] সয়তান against a current printed Manipuri Bible edition.
Handed Over To Satan
Approved rendering: সয়তান্দা পিরকখিবা
Transliteration: Satanda pirakkhiba
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Due Process
Rejected alternatives: any rendering evoking a maiba’s traditional binding/exorcism ritual
Original: παρέδωκα τῷ Σατανᾷ
Category: Sound Doctrine
NEW. Occurs 1:20. Must be distinguished from any Meitei traditional binding/exorcism ritual performed by a maiba; this is a disciplinary act of the church’s spiritual authority with restorative intent, not an occult curse or ritual banishment. [CONFIRM] সয়তান transliteration against a current printed Manipuri Bible edition.
Overseer
Approved rendering: কলিসিয়াগী য়েংশিনবা
Transliteration: kalisiyagi yengsinba
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Rejected alternatives: মৈবা/purohit-style religious-specialist vocabulary, never use, পুজারী (Vaishnava temple priest office, never use)
Original: ἐπίσκοπος
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Core passage 3:1-7. Both rejected alternatives are recognized, currently-practiced religious-specialist roles (ritual mediation, oracular function, temple maintenance) that differ categorically from a church overseer’s teaching-and-shepherding office. Must be taught as a congregationally recognized office, not a ritual-specialist or hereditary priestly role.
Deacon
Approved rendering: কলিসিয়াগী মতেংপা
Transliteration: kalisiyagi matengpa
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Rejected alternatives: সেবক/সেবা (Vaishnava bhakti-merit devotional service vocabulary, never use, cf. Romans baseline rejection of সেবা for obedience_of_faith)
Original: διάκονος
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Core passage 3:8-13. A deacon’s service is a recognized, examined church office exercised out of gratitude for grace already received, not merit-accumulating devotional labor. Teach this distinction explicitly at first occurrence.
Elder Office
Approved rendering: কলিসিয়াগী অহল
Transliteration: kalisiyagi ahal
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Original: πρεσβύτερος
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Context-sensitive, parallel to the baseline’s handling of ‘called’: office sense (5:17,19; 4:14 presbytery) uses কলিসিয়াগী অহল; general-respect sense (5:1-2) may use অহল alone. Positive point of contact with Meitei ahal-lamal elder-respect norms; the office carries specific examined qualifications beyond mere age-based social seniority — teach this distinction explicitly.
Husband Of One Wife
Approved rendering: নুপী অমখাক্তগী মপুরোইবা
Transliteration: nupi amakhaktagi mapuroiba
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Original: μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἄνδρα
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Occurs 3:2,12. Directly confronts historic Meitei polygamy, practiced within the historic royal/noble tradition and still recognized under some customary/personal-law frameworks in Manipur — a live, not merely historical, collision point. Must be taught explicitly as a New Testament church-office standard, never as a comment on the salvation status or legal legitimacy of existing polygamous marriages. Mandatory theologian framing before any pastoral teaching use.
Not Greedy For Money
Approved rendering: শেলবু নুংশীদবা
Transliteration: sel-bu nungshidaba
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Original: ἀφιλάργυρος
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Occurs 3:3. Links directly to the chapter 6 love-of-money doctrine.
Clean Conscience
Approved rendering: থমোইগী খংবা শেংবা
Transliteration: thamoigi khangba shengba
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Rejected alternatives: any rendering collapsing into ritual-purity awareness before Umang Lai or Vaishnava temple worship
Original: καθαρὰ συνείδησις
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Occurs 3:9; recurs 1:5,19; 4:2 (seared conscience, opposite sense). Must be distinguished from ritual-purity awareness; biblical ‘clean conscience’ is a moral-relational state before God enabled by Christ’s finished work.
Women Deacons Wives
Approved rendering: নুপীশিং
Transliteration: nupishing
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Rejected alternatives: any rendering that silently resolves the interpretive ambiguity in either direction
Original: γυναῖκας
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Occurs 3:11 (γυναῖκας). Textually and interpretively disputed (deacons’ wives vs. women deacons). The Manipuri rendering must preserve, not resolve, this genuine ambiguity unless a theologian directs otherwise. Mandatory human theologian review.
Boldness Confidence
Approved rendering: থাজবগী পুক্নিং চাংবা
Transliteration: thajabagi puk-ning changba
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Rejected alternatives: a devotee’s ecstatic bhakti-emotional confidence or trance-state assurance, avoid
Original: παρρησία
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Occurs 3:13 (παρρησία). Connects to the Assurance of Salvation doctrine. Must not be confused with ecstatic confidence gained through bhakti-emotional experience or maibi possession-state assurance; this confidence is grounded in Christ’s finished work, held with sober self-awareness.
Ransom
Approved rendering: হন্থোকপগী মথৌ
Transliteration: hanthokpagi mathou
Doctrine: Christ as the One Mediator
Rejected alternatives: a generic ‘sacrifice’ term lacking the substitutionary-payment sense
Original: ἀντίλυτρον
Category: Christ as the One Mediator
NEW. Occurs 2:6. Connects to the inherited salvation family; must not be reduced to a generic sacrifice without the specific substitutionary-payment sense, distinct from votive-offering logic in either live tradition.
Household Of God
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুগী ইমুং
Transliteration: Tengban Mapugi imung
Doctrine: The Church as Pillar of Truth
Original: οἶκος θεοῦ
Category: Church as Pillar of Truth
NEW compound on the inherited তেংবাং মপু root plus established ইমুং (household/family). Occurs 3:15. Must be taught as a spiritual family relativizing, not replacing, yumnak clan-household identity.
Pillar
Approved rendering: চিংথৌ
Transliteration: chingthou
Doctrine: The Church as Pillar of Truth
Rejected alternatives: any conflation with a physical ritual pole/marker at an Umang Lai sacred grove
Original: στῦλος
Category: Church as Pillar of Truth
NEW. Named curriculum doctrine. Occurs 3:15 (στῦλος). Must be clearly taught as a structural-support/display metaphor, not confused with an Umang Lai sacred-grove ritual marker.
Godliness As Gain
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুবু ইকাই খুম্নবা ফংবগী মথৌ ওইনা খন্বা
Transliteration: Tengban Mapubu ikai khumnaba phangbagi mathou oina khanba
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Original: πορισμὸν εἶναι τὴν εὐσέβειαν
Category: Godliness and Contentment
NEW. Occurs 6:5. Must be taught as a warning against transactional religion generally; a careful, respectful, teaching-only functional parallel to votive-exchange logic (offerings/vows at an Umang Lai shrine or Vaishnava temple for material blessing) may be named for contrast, without implying all vow/offering practice equals this condemned error.
Contentment
Approved rendering: য়াম্না থাম্লবা
Transliteration: yamna thamlaba
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Rejected alternatives: Vaishnava vairagya renunciation-as-merit ascetic ideal, avoid, any Sanamahi simplicity-ethic term implying renunciation-for-merit
Original: αὐτάρκεια
Category: Godliness and Contentment
NEW. Occurs 6:6, cf. Philippians 4:11. Biblical contentment flows from trust in God’s fatherly provision and the sufficiency of godliness itself, not from a renunciation-discipline practiced for spiritual advancement.
Love Of Money
Approved rendering: শেলবু নুংশীবা
Transliteration: sel-bu nungshiba
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Original: φιλαργυρία
Category: Godliness and Contentment
NEW. Occurs 6:10 (φιλαργυρία). The ‘root of all kinds of evils’ indictment must be preserved at full force, unsoftened.
Eternal Life
Approved rendering: অহৌবা হিংবা
Transliteration: ahouba hingba
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Rejected alternatives: মোক্ষ (Vaishnava liberation, already forbidden per Romans baseline for salvation, never use), any reincarnation-cycle-escape framing
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Godliness and Contentment
NEW. Occurs 6:12,19. Must not be conflated with মোক্ষ or reincarnation-cycle escape; eternal life is unending personal fellowship with God through Christ, secured at conversion and consummated at the resurrection.
Good Confession
Approved rendering: ফজরবা লৌখৎপা
Transliteration: phajaraba loukhatpa
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Rejected alternatives: japa-style repeated devotional utterance/mantra-recitation (e.g. Krishna-name chanting), avoid
Original: ἡ καλὴ ὁμολογία
Category: Godliness and Contentment
NEW. Occurs 6:12-13. Connects directly to the Romans baseline’s Lordship-confession consistency rule (Romans 10:9, ‘Jesus is Lord’); a decisive, personal, exclusive, once-for-all testimony of allegiance to Christ, categorically distinct from repeated devotional utterance.
Unapproachable Light
Approved rendering: চেংদা ফাওবা য়াদবা মংফম
Transliteration: chengda faoba yadaba mangfam
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Rejected alternatives: staging-metaphor language resonant with Ras Lila’s visually radiant divine-presence effects
Original: φῶς οἰκῶν ἀπρόσιτον
Category: Godliness and Contentment
NEW. Occurs 6:16. Connects to the inherited glory term; avoid staging-metaphor language resonant with Ras Lila performance’s radiance effects, per the baseline glory note.
Widow
Approved rendering: মপুরোইবা সিরবা নুপী
Transliteration: mapuroiba siraba nupi
Doctrine: Care for Widows and the Household of Faith
Original: χήρα
Category: Care for Widows and Household of Faith
NEW provisional descriptive compound. Occurs 5:3-16, throughout. [CONFIRM] before Phase 2: an existing single-word Meitei term for ‘widow’ may already be current in everyday usage and, if attested and doctrinally clean, should be preferred over this compound.
Show Godliness To Household
Approved rendering: মশাগী ইমুংদা তেংবাং মপুবু ইকাই খুম্নবগী থৌদাং ফংহনবা
Transliteration: masha-gi imungda Tengban Mapubu ikai khumnabagi thoudang phanghanba
Doctrine: Care for Widows and the Household of Faith
Original: εὐσέβειαν ἀποδιδόναι τῷ ἰδίῳ οἴκῳ
Category: Care for Widows and Household of Faith
NEW. Occurs 5:4. Connects Godliness and Contentment doctrine to Care for Widows/Household of Faith doctrine — genuine godliness is proven first in ordinary family care, a point of strong positive resonance with Meitei family/clan (yumnak) obligation norms worth naming explicitly.
Denied The Faith
Approved rendering: থাজবা য়াদবা ফোংদোকপা
Transliteration: thajaba yadaba phongdokpa
Doctrine: Care for Widows and the Household of Faith
Original: τὴν πίστιν ἤρνηται
Category: Care for Widows and Household of Faith
NEW compound using the inherited থাজবা root with negation. Occurs 5:8. A strong statement equating family neglect with practical apostasy (‘worse than an unbeliever’); must be preserved without softening.
Medium Risk Terms
Mercy
Approved rendering: থৌগল পীবা
Transliteration: thougal piba
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: কৃপা (bhakti-responsive favor nuance, avoid)
NEW. Occurs 1:2 as the third term in 1 Timothy’s expanded salutation triad (grace, mercy, peace), not present in the Romans salutation. Must be distinguished from কৃপা’s bhakti-responsive nuance exactly as grace is (see baseline grace note).
Unfeigned Faith
Approved rendering: অলোকখৎপা থাজবা
Transliteration: alokkhatpa thajaba
Doctrine: Faith
NEW. Occurs 1:5 (‘sincere faith’). Descriptor অলোকখৎপা (‘without pretense/hypocrisy’) added to REUSED থাজবা.
Shipwrecked Faith
Approved rendering: থাজবগী হি ঙাকখিবা
Transliteration: thajabagi hi ngakkhiba
Doctrine: Departing from the Faith (Apostasy)
NEW. Occurs 1:19, a vivid nautical metaphor for catastrophic loss of faith. Confirm natural Manipuri river/boat idiom exists before deployment; render plainly if not.
Law
Approved rendering: য়াথাং
Transliteration: yathang
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: ধর্ম (Hindu-derived religious-duty sense, never use)
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs 1:8-9 (‘the law is good if one uses it lawfully’).
Church
Approved rendering: কলিসিয়া
Transliteration: kalisiya

Rejected alternatives: মন্দির (Vaishnava temple, never use), উমাং লাই থাবা (Umang Lai sacred grove, never use)
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs 3:5,15; 5:16. Central to the Household of God and Pillar of Truth doctrines of 3:15.
Peace
Approved rendering: ইনগবা
Transliteration: ingba
Doctrine: Peace with God
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Part of the expanded 1:2 salutation triad (grace, mercy, peace).

Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Original: γενεαλογίαι ἀπέραντοι
Category: Sound Doctrine
NEW. Occurs 1:4. Built on established চা-চাহি (seed/lineage) root. Meitei culture places real weight on clan (yumnak) and royal (Pakhangba) lineage; teach that Paul opposes speculative misuse of genealogy for controversy, not lineage/ancestry as a category.
Charge Command
Approved rendering: থৌদাং পীবা
Transliteration: thoudang piba
Doctrine: Guarding the Deposit of Faith
Rejected alternatives: any rendering evoking a maiba’s traditional ritual injunction
Original: παραγγελία / παραγγέλλω
Category: Sound Doctrine

Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Occurs 3:2,10 (ἀνεπίλημπτος / ἀνέγκλητος). Distinct from Meitei social ‘face/honor’ (ikai-khumnaba) categories — this is verifiable moral conduct, not merely public reputation management.

Original: σώφρων
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Occurs 3:2 (σώφρων). Distinguish from Vaishnava vairagya self-denial practiced as a devotional technique for spiritual merit; this is practical moral self-governance flowing from the Spirit.
Not A Drunkard
Approved rendering: য়ুবু চাওদবা
Transliteration: yu-bu chaodaba
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Original: μὴ πάροινος
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Occurs 3:3,8. Sensitive given traditional Meitei rice-beer (atingba) social use and contemporary Manipur temperance/prohibition debate; teach as a leadership-qualification standard, not a general ethical pronouncement on alcohol as such. Compounded by 5:23’s ‘a little wine for the stomach’ — requires paired office-standard-vs-personal-health framing.
Managing Household Well

Original: τοῦ ἰδίου οἴκου καλῶς προϊστάμενος

Children In Submission
Approved rendering: মচাশিং ইনবা
Transliteration: machashing inba
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Original: τέκνα ἐν ὑποταγῇ
Category: Church Leadership
NEW. Occurs 3:4 (ὑποταγή). Same root reappears at 2:11 in the more contested public-worship passage; render consistently across both occurrences for cross-reference, while flagging 2:11 separately given its higher doctrinal sensitivity.

Transliteration: mapandagi phajaraba sakshi
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Original: μαρτυρία καλὴ ἀπὸ τῶν ἔξωθεν

Doctrine: Public Worship and Prayer
Original: προσευχαί
Category: Public Worship and Prayer
NEW. Occurs 2:1. Widely-used regional loanword also generically used across Hindu devotional vocabulary, including Vaishnava contexts; teach explicitly that Christian প্রার্থনা is address to the one true God through Christ, the sole mediator (2:5), not a generic devotional-prayer category compatible with any deity addressed.
Supplications
Approved rendering: হায়জবা
Transliteration: haijaba
Doctrine: Public Worship and Prayer
Original: δεήσεις
Category: Public Worship and Prayer
NEW. Occurs 2:1 (δεήσεις). Same root as the inherited intercession term; keep distinct from general ‘prayer’ by context.
Lifting Holy Hands
Approved rendering: থৌজালনা লেপ্না খুৎ থাংবা
Transliteration: thoujalna lepna khut thangba
Doctrine: Public Worship and Prayer
Rejected alternatives: collapsing into অসেংবা (the ἅγιος term), which would blur a genuine Greek lexical distinction
Original: ἐπαίροντας ὁσίους χεῖρας
Category: Public Worship and Prayer
NEW. Occurs 2:8 (ὅσιος, hosios — devout/pious, a DISTINCT Greek word from ἅγιος/অসেংবা). Inward moral purity, not ritual hand-washing before Vaishnava temple worship or a maibi’s ritual hand-gesture, is what this phrase requires.
Modest Apparel
Approved rendering: মথৌ চান্না লৈবা ফুরিৎ
Transliteration: mathou channa leiba phurit
Doctrine: Public Worship and Prayer
Rejected alternatives: any framing implying blanket criticism of traditional Meitei ceremonial dress (phanek, innaphi) or jewelry
Original: καταστολή, κόσμιος
Category: Public Worship and Prayer

Laying On Of Hands
Approved rendering: খুৎ থাম্বা
Transliteration: khut thamba
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Rejected alternatives: a maibi/maiba’s ritual touch or blessing gesture, avoid conflating, a Vaishnava guru’s dīkṣā initiation hand-gesture, avoid conflating
NEW. Occurs 4:14. A commissioning act recognizing Spirit-given gifting already present, not a magical transfer of power or a guru-lineage initiation rite.
Widow Indeed
Approved rendering: অচুম্বা মপুরোইবা সিরবা নুপী
Transliteration: achumba mapuroiba siraba nupi

Two Or Three Witnesses
Approved rendering: মী অহুম-অনি সাক্ষী
Transliteration: mi ahum-ani sakshi

Original: ἐνώπιον πάντων ἔλεγχε
Category: Care for Widows and Household of Faith

Keep Pure
Approved rendering: মশা শেংনা থম্বা
Transliteration: masha shengna thamba
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Due Process
Rejected alternatives: collapsing into শেংবা’s reserved physical/ritual-cleanliness sense
Original: σεαυτὸν ἁγνὸν τήρει
Category: Care for Widows and Household of Faith
NEW. Occurs 5:22 (ἁγνός, hagnos — pure/chaste, a DISTINCT Greek word from ἅγιος/অসেংবা). শেংবা itself remains reserved per the baseline note for the physical/ritual-cleanliness sense, distinct from this personal moral-purity sense.
Slaves And Masters
Approved rendering: মীওই ফদবা, মপুশিং
Transliteration: miwoi phadaba, mapushing
Doctrine: Household Ethics
Original: δοῦλοι, δεσπόται
Category: Household Ethics
NEW. Occurs 6:1-2. Descriptive of first-century household slavery relations; must not be applied anachronistically to any contemporary Manipur labor, bonded-service, or debt-servitude context without careful pastoral framing distinguishing biblical-era household slavery from, and explicitly rejecting, coercive modern labor practice.
