07 Semantic Analysis — Revelation (Koine Greek → Manipuri)
Method and Scope
This document analyzes the full text of Revelation, chapter 1 through chapter 22, in the original Koine Greek. Per PRD Phase 1 Step 1:
- Part 1 treats the core passage, Revelation 21:1-8, verse by verse: every load-bearing term with original word, transliteration, literal meaning, semantic range, English variants, contextual theological meaning, and destination-language (Manipuri) rendering risk.
- Part 2 treats every remaining chapter of the book (1-20, 22, plus Revelation 21:9-27 beyond the core passage) with the same field structure, applied to that chapter’s genuinely load-bearing terms. Where a chapter introduces no new theological vocabulary, this is stated explicitly.
Baseline reuse rule: any term already recorded in the Romans translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json is reused here exactly as recorded, at the same or an explicitly escalated risk tier where Revelation’s context intensifies the risk. New terms are proposed with a Manipuri rendering, provisional risk tier, and grounded reasoning, consistent with the baseline’s descriptive-compound and transliteration conventions.
Risk tiers (unchanged from baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json): Critical (human theologian review, every occurrence) / High (human theologian review) / Medium (native speaker review) / Low (automated review).
Live dual-tradition caution carried forward: Sanamahism (Sanamahi, Pakhangba the ancestral serpent-deity, the Umang Lai forest deities, Lai Haraoba, the maibi/maiba ritual specialists) and Gaudiya Vaishnavism (Krishna-Radha devotion, Ras Lila, bhakti, avatar theology) are both live, currently practiced traditions. Revelation’s dense symbolic vocabulary — thrones, dragons, beasts, worship scenes, a bride, sacred trees and waters, and a call to reject idols — puts it in more sustained contact with both traditions than Romans was, not less. Every Critical/High assignment below names the specific collision.
Part 1: Core Passage — Revelation 21:1-8 (Verse-by-Verse)
Revelation 21:1
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| καινός (καινὸν/καινήν) | kainos | new, of a new kind (qualitative), not merely recent | Freshness in kind, not just in time; contrasts with νέος (new in time) | “new” | The heaven and earth are not recycled or repaired but qualitatively renewed by God’s final creative act — the climax of Sovereignty of God over History and New Heaven/New Earth doctrine | অনৌবা (anouba). Risk: Critical. Must be taught as a one-time, linear, final renewal — not one turn of a repeating cosmic cycle of creation-dissolution-recreation (a live category in Manipuri Vaishnava cosmology, where ages/kalpas dissolve and recur). See doctrine note below. |
| οὐρανός | ouranos | sky, heaven | The visible sky; the abode of God; “heaven” generally | ”heaven,” “sky” | The old created heaven passing away and being replaced, not destroyed into non-existence | স্বর্গ (swarga). Risk: Critical. স্বর্গ is a Sanskrit-derived term also naming the Hindu heavenly realm attained temporarily through merit before eventual rebirth within saṃsāra. Christian usage here must be taught explicitly as final and eternal, never a way-station within a rebirth cycle — parallel logic to the baseline’s রেজারেকশন/পুনর্জন্ম caution. |
| γῆ | gē | earth, land, ground | Physical earth; a specific land/region; “the world" | "earth,” “land,” “world” | The renewed material creation, not an escape from materiality | মালেম (malem, “the world/earth”). Risk: High. Keep distinct from লৈপাক (kingdom, per baseline’s kingdom_of_god entry) to avoid confusing a renewed material earth with an abstract “kingdom” concept. |
| θάλασσα | thalassa | sea | Literal sea; symbolically, in Revelation, the source of chaos, the beast (13:1), and division between peoples | ”sea" | "No more sea” symbolizes the final removal of chaos, threat, and separation — not a literal geography claim | পাত্ কনখৎলবা (pat kankhatlaba, “the [lake/]sea removed/no longer present”), building on পাৎ (pat), the authentic Meitei word for a large body of water (cf. Loktak Pat). Risk: Medium. Must be flagged for Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation doctrine: this is not a claim that literal oceans vanish, but that the source of primeval threat and division is finally undone. |
Doctrinal synthesis (21:1): This verse anchors the New Heaven and New Earth doctrine and must be explicitly contrasted, in teaching notes, with Hindu cosmological cycles (kalpas, yugas, pralaya) that are actively part of Manipuri Vaishnava cosmological teaching. Revelation depicts a single, final, linear act of re-creation, not a repeating cosmic rhythm.
Revelation 21:2
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| πόλις ἁγία | polis hagia | holy city | A city set apart, morally pure and consecrated | ”holy city” | The New Jerusalem as God’s own dwelling-place-city, reusing অসেংবা (holy) from baseline | অসেংবা সহর (asengba sahar), reusing অসেংবা (baseline “holy,” High risk) + সহর (city). Risk: High (inherits baseline holy-term risk: moral/relational set-apartness, not ritual-purity-only). |
| Ἰερουσαλήμ (καινή) | Ierousalēm (kainē) | (new) Jerusalem | The literal city; symbolically, in Revelation, God’s consummated dwelling with his redeemed people | ”New Jerusalem” | Not a rebuilt earthly capital but the eschatological, descending city-bride | অনৌবা জেরুসালেম (Anouba Jerusalem), transliterated proper noun with অনৌবা (new). Risk: Medium. |
| καταβαίνουσαν | katabainousan | coming down, descending | Movement from a higher to a lower place; here, from heaven to earth | ”coming down,” “descending” | The city is God’s gift descending to his people, not a human achievement or a city humanity ascends toward through merit/effort — a grace-shaped image | লক্লিবা (laklliba, “coming/descending”). Risk: High. This descent-not-ascent structure should be explicitly taught alongside grace (মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং): the holy city is given, not attained through bhakti-devotional merit or ritual accumulation. |
| νύμφη | nymphē | bride, young married woman | A woman prepared for or newly entered into marriage | ”bride” | The church-city corporately depicted as Christ’s bride, adorned and prepared — a corporate, covenantal, chaste image | নুপী লৌগদবী (nupi lougadabi, “the one about to be taken as bride/wife”), a descriptive compound parallel in structure to baseline’s adoption entry (মচা ওইনা লৌবা). Risk: Critical. Manipuri Vaishnavism’s Ras Lila stages an explicitly romantic-mystical bridal union between Radha and Krishna, in which the devotee’s soul is cast as Radha, the eternal beloved of Krishna. The Church-as-Bride image in Revelation risks being absorbed into this live, prestigious, UNESCO-recognized devotional paradigm. This curriculum must teach the Bride of Christ as a corporate, covenantal, eschatological identity of the whole redeemed church, not an individual devotee’s romantic-mystical union with a divine lover, and must state this contrast explicitly rather than let the resonance pass silently. |
| κεκοσμημένην | kekosmēmenēn | adorned, decorated | Ornamented, made beautiful/ready | ”adorned” | The bride’s beauty is given/prepared by God, not self-achieved through ritual beautification (a notable feature of Ras Lila costuming and Vaishnava temple deity-adornment practice) | শাজবা (shajaba, “adorned/dressed”). Risk: Medium. Flag alongside the Bride entry above; avoid visual/verbal echoes of ceremonial deity-adornment ritual (śṛṅgāra) practiced before Krishna images. |
Revelation 21:3
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| θρόνος | thronos | throne | A seat of authority/rule | ”throne” | God’s/the Lamb’s seat of absolute, cosmic sovereignty (cf. chs. 4-5) — the central image of Sovereignty of God over History | ফম্বল (phambal), the existing Meitei word for a royal seat/throne, historically associated with the Ningthou (king) and, in traditional belief, with the Pakhangba royal-divine lineage. Risk: High. This resonance is an opportunity, not only a danger, following the baseline’s “seed of David” precedent: it must be explicitly taught that God’s ফম্বল is a cosmic, not a local dynastic-political, throne — not a claim over or against any specific historic royal lineage. |
| σκηνή / σκηνώσει (σκηνόω) | skēnē / skēnōsei (skēnoō) | tent, tabernacle / will tabernacle, will dwell | A temporary tent-dwelling; by extension, God’s manifest presence dwelling among his people. Same root verb used in John 1:14 (“the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us”) | “dwelling,” “tabernacle,” “will dwell” | God’s own presence permanently and directly among his redeemed people — the fulfillment of the Immanuel/“God with us” theme that began with the Incarnation | লোয়ননা লৈবা (loinnana leiba, “will remain/dwell together”), built on the root of baseline’s fellowship term লোইনবা (loinaba). Risk: High. This is the capstone of the Incarnation doctrine’s trajectory (মীওইগী মহৈ লৌবা): God’s own dwelling with humanity, begun in Christ’s incarnation, consummated forever here. Must not be flattened into a vague “closeness” that could be read as devotional nearness to Krishna in bhakti or ancestral-spirit nearness in Sanamahi practice; this is the one true God’s own unmediated presence. |
| λαός (λαοὶ αὐτοῦ) | laos (laoi autou) | people(s) | A people, nation, or (plural, as some manuscripts read) “peoples" | "people,” “peoples” | God’s own covenant people drawn from every nation (see 21:24,26; 7:9) — ties to Unity of Jews and Gentiles / Universal Scope of the Gospel doctrine, reusing baseline’s গণ concept | মখোয়গী মীওইশিং (makhoigi miwoishing, “his people”). Risk: Medium. |
Revelation 21:4
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| θάνατος | thanatos | death | Physical death; personified as an end-time enemy (cf. 20:14, “Death and Hades”) | “death” | Death itself finally, permanently abolished — the ultimate victory of the Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil doctrine | সিবা (siba, “death”), plain existing term. Risk: Critical. Must be explicitly distinguished from any framework in which death is merely a transition within an ongoing cycle (rebirth/পুনর্জন্ম, forbidden per baseline). Here death is ended, not repeated. |
| πένθος | penthos | mourning, grief | Grief, especially ritual/public mourning | ”mourning” | Grief itself will have no more object or occasion | য়ামথিবা (yamthiba, “mourning/sorrow”). Risk: Low. |
| κραυγή | kraugē | crying out, outcry | A loud cry, whether of distress or of a herald’s proclamation | ”crying,” “outcry” | The cry of pain and distress silenced forever | কুরকপা (kurakpa, “crying out”). Risk: Low. |
| πόνος | ponos | pain, toil, hardship | Physical or laboring pain/hardship | ”pain” | All suffering — bodily and circumstantial — ended | অনা-অসিবা (ana-asiba, “pain/suffering”). Risk: Low. |
| τὰ πρῶτα (πρῶτος) | ta prōta | the first things, the former things | The old created order, now passed | ”the former things,” “the old order” | The entire fallen created order — including sin’s consequences — has definitively passed away | হানनবা ৱাফম শিং (hanaba wapham shing, “the former things”). Risk: Medium. |
Revelation 21:5
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| ὁ καθήμενος ἐπὶ τῷ θρόνῳ | ho kathēmenos epi tō thronō | the one seated on the throne | A standing divine title in Revelation (4:2,9-10; 5:1,7,13; 20:11) for God himself | ”he who sits on the throne” | The direct speaking voice of God the Father himself, guaranteeing the new creation | ফম্বলদা ফম্লিবা মহাক (phambalda phamliba mahak, “the one seated on the throne”). Risk: High. Reuses ফম্বল (throne, see 21:3); same caution about the Pakhangba-lineage royal-throne resonance applies. |
| πιστός καὶ ἀληθινός | pistos kai alēthinos | faithful and true | Reliable, trustworthy, and genuinely truthful (not deceptive) | “faithful and true,” “trustworthy and true” | God’s own words about the new creation are certain and reliable — grounding Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil in God’s own character, not fate | থাজবা য়াবা অমসুং অচুম্বা (thajaba yaba amasung achumba, “trustworthy and true”), reusing থাজবা (baseline “faith,” High risk) and অচুম্বা (righteousness root, Critical). Risk: High. |
Revelation 21:6
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Ἄλφα καὶ Ὦ | Alpha kai Ō | Alpha and Omega (first/last letters of the Greek alphabet) | A merism for total comprehensiveness; God’s self-designation (1:8; 21:6; 22:13) | “Alpha and Omega” | Christ/God’s absolute sovereignty over all history, beginning to end — the theological core of Sovereignty of God over History | আলফা অমসুং ওমেগা (Alpha amasung Omega), transliterated. Risk: Medium. Requires an explanatory footnote since the Greek alphabet order is unfamiliar to Manipuri readers; must not be replaced with a locally “equivalent” merism that could import unrelated symbolism. |
| ἀρχὴ καὶ τέλος | archē kai telos | beginning and end | Origin/first cause and completion/goal | ”the beginning and the end” | Same sovereignty claim restated plainly | হৌখিবা অমসুং লোইশিন্বা (houkhiba amasung loishinba, “the beginning and the completion/end”). Risk: Medium. |
| πηγὴ τοῦ ὕδατος τῆς ζωῆς | pēgē tou hydatos tēs zōēs | spring/fountain of the water of life | A source of living, life-giving water | ”spring/fountain of the water of life” | Eternal life freely offered by God himself, echoing Christ’s words in John 4 and 7 | হিংবগী ইশিংগী থক্তা (hingbagi ishinggi thakta, “spring/source of the water of life”). Risk: Medium. Must not be confused with any ritually purifying or sacred water source associated with Lai Haraoba cleansing rites or Vaishnava tīrtha (sacred-river) theology; this water is God’s own free gift of eternal life, not a substance with independent ritual power. |
| δωρεάν | dōrean | freely, as a gift, without cost | Given without payment or merit | ”freely,” “without cost,” “as a gift” | Eternal life is given, not purchased by devotion, ritual, or merit | মথৌ তাদনা (mathou tadana), the exact root of the baseline’s grace term মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং. Risk: Critical. This is a prime opportunity — and a prime risk point — to teach the grace-apart-from-merit doctrine established in Romans: the water of life is not responsive to bhakti-devotional service (as কৃপা is understood in Manipuri Vaishnavism) but given freely to “the one who is thirsty,” full stop. |
Revelation 21:7
Greek: ὁ νικῶν κληρονομήσει ταῦτα, καὶ ἔσομαι αὐτῷ θεὸς καὶ αὐτὸς ἔσται μοι υἱός.
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| ὁ νικῶν (νικάω) | ho nikōn (nikaō) | the one who overcomes/conquers | To win a contest or battle; in Revelation, a technical term for the faithful believer who perseveres to the end (used 17 times, esp. chs. 2-3) | “he who overcomes,” “the conqueror,” “the one who is victorious” | The believer who perseveres in faithful witness under persecution to the end — central to Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution doctrine | ন্গম্বীবা (ngambiba, “the one who overcomes/prevails”), from ন্গম্বা (ngamba, “to be able, to prevail, to win”). Risk: High. Must be taught as faith-sustained endurance, distinct from a warrior’s or wrestler’s this-worldly victory and distinct from any notion of ritual/merit-accumulated spiritual attainment. |
| κληρονομέω | klēronomeō | to inherit | To receive as an heir, with full legal inheritance rights | ”will inherit,” “will receive as inheritance” | Full inheritance of the new creation itself — reuses the inheritance-rights emphasis flagged in baseline’s adoption entry | লৌগনি (lougani, “will receive/take [as inheritance]”), tied to baseline’s adoption note on full inheritance rights (মচা ওইনা লৌবা). Risk: High. |
| θεός…υἱός | theos…huios | God…son | The Old Testament covenant formula (“I will be their God, and they will be my people/son,” cf. 2 Sam 7:14; Jer 31:33) | “I will be his God and he will be my son” | The Davidic-covenant sonship promise now extended to every overcoming believer — ties Adoption into God’s Family directly to the Davidic Covenant doctrine | তেংবাং মপু…মচা (Tengban Mapu…macha), reusing baseline’s তেংবাং মপু (God, Critical) and the macha root of মচা ওইনা লৌবা (adoption, High). Risk: Critical. This is the clearest adoption/sonship text in the entire book; it must be taught with the full baseline note that formal, full-inheritance-rights sonship is not a settled category in traditional Meitei yumnak (clan) kinship, where inheritance runs by birth lineage — this is a legal/relational status granted by God’s own declaration, not a resonance to be assumed as automatically understood. |
Revelation 21:8
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| δειλός | deilos | cowardly, fearful | Fearful in a morally culpable sense — failing to hold fast under pressure | ”cowardly,” “fearful” | The opposite of ὁ νικῶν (v.7) — one who abandons faithful witness under persecution | কীবা মীওই (kiba miwoi, “a fearful/cowardly person”). Risk: Medium. Contrasts directly with Perseverance doctrine. |
| ἄπιστος | apistos | unbelieving, faithless | Lacking trust/faith; the negative of πίστις | ”unbelieving,” “faithless” | Final rejection of Christ, not mere doubt | থাজদবা (thajadaba, negation of baseline থাজবা, “faith”). Risk: High. |
| φαρμακός | pharmakos | sorcerer, one who uses magical drugs/potions | A practitioner of magic arts, potions, or poison | ”sorcerer,” “practitioner of magic arts” | Manipulative, false spiritual power set against God’s true power | জাদু তৌবা মীওই (jadu taoba miwoi, “one who practices sorcery/magic,” using the regionally understood South Asian loanword জাদু). Risk: High. Must be distinguished, with pastoral care, from the maiba/maibi’s traditionally recognized ritual-healing and oracular office within live Sanamahi practice (per the baseline’s caution on প্রফেট/prophet); the condemnation targets manipulative or God-opposing spiritual power, not a blanket verdict on all traditional practitioners without further theological context. |
| εἰδωλολάτρης | eidōlolatrēs | idolater, worshiper of idols | One who gives worship due to God to an image or created thing | ”idolater” | Worship misdirected to any created thing instead of the one true God | লাই খুরুমবা মীওই (lai khurumba miwoi, “one who worships a [man-made] god/deity”), built on মীওই শাবা লাই (“a human-made god/idol,” see glossary) and reusing খুরুম্জবা (worship, see below). Risk: Critical. This is the single most sensitive term in the core passage. It must never be taught, in a curriculum for a live dual-tradition context, as a direct verdict naming any specific present-day Manipuri devotional practice (Vaishnava temple image-worship, Umang Lai grove veneration, or Sanamahi ancestral-spirit reverence) by name. The theological point — worship belongs to God alone, not to any created image or being — must be taught clearly and pastorally, with sensitivity to the fact that this term sits at the center of a genuinely live, two-tradition religious landscape, not a historical footnote. |
| λίμνη…πυρὶ καὶ θείῳ | limnē…pyri kai theiō | lake…with fire and sulfur (brimstone) | A body of fire/burning sulfur; the place of final punishment (19:20; 20:10,14-15) | “lake of fire,” “lake of fire and sulfur/brimstone” | Final, eternal judgment of the unrepentant — the negative pole of Judgment of the Wicked doctrine | মেইগী পাৎ (meigi pat, “lake of fire”), using পাৎ (the authentic Meitei word for a lake, cf. Loktak Pat). Risk: Critical. Must be explicitly taught as final and eternal, not a temporary purgative punishment preceding rebirth (as some Hindu naraka/hell-realm concepts function within a karma-and-rebirth framework); the parallel logic to the baseline’s resurrection/rebirth caution applies directly here. |
| ὁ θάνατος ὁ δεύτερος | ho thanatos ho deuteros | the second death | Final, eternal separation from God, distinct from ordinary physical death | ”the second death” | The ultimate negative outcome contrasted with eternal life/inheritance in v.7 | অনিশুবা সিবা (anishuba siba, “the second death”). Risk: Critical. Must never be rendered or explained in any way that suggests a further chance at another bodily life (rebirth/পুনর্জন্ম, forbidden per baseline); it is a permanent, final state, the terminus of judgment, not a station within a cycle. |
Part 2: Chapter-by-Chapter Study, Revelation 1-22
Chapter 1
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Revelation/Apocalypse | ἀποκάλυψις | apokalypsis | an uncovering, unveiling | Disclosure of what was hidden; the book’s title-word and genre-name | ”revelation,” “apocalypse” | God’s own sovereign unveiling of realities otherwise hidden, given through a prophetic vision to his servant John — grounds the Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation doctrine | ফোংদোকপা (phongdokpa), reusing the root of baseline’s prophet/prophecy terms (তোঙান তোঙানবা ফোংদোকপা; ফোংদোকপা ৱারোল). Risk: High. Must be distinguished from a maibi’s trance-induced oracular disclosure during Lai Haraoba, and from any human-sought mystical or astrological revelation; this is God’s own initiative, given once, in writing, to be read aloud and kept (1:3), not repeatable ecstatic utterance. |
| Faithful witness | ὁ μάρτυς ὁ πιστός | ho martys ho pistos | the faithful witness | One who testifies faithfully, even unto death (the term μάρτυς later gives English “martyr”) | “faithful witness” | Christ’s own title (1:5), the pattern for all faithful witness under persecution | থাজবা য়াবা সাক্ষী (thajaba yaba sakshi), reusing থাজবা (faith) + সাক্ষী (witness, see glossary). Risk: High. Foundational to Perseverance and Faithful Witness doctrine across the whole book. |
| Alpha and Omega / Almighty | Ἄλφα καὶ Ὦ / παντοκράτωρ | Alpha kai Ō / pantokratōr | Alpha and Omega / ruler of all | Total comprehensiveness / all-powerful, sovereign over all | ”Alpha and Omega” / “Almighty” | God’s absolute sovereignty over history (1:8) | See Alpha/Omega glossary entry; Almighty = পাংথোক্লবা তেংবাং মপু (Pangthoklaba Tengban Mapu). Risk: High. Must be distinguished from Vaishnava “Bhagavan” (supreme personal God within an avatar-populated system) and from Sanamahi cosmology’s own supreme-deity concepts (e.g., the formless ultimate God behind Sanamahi as household deity); this is the unique, triune God, not a supreme figure within a wider pantheon. |
| Son of Man | υἱὸς ἀνθρώπου | huios anthrōpou | son of man | Messianic self-designation (Daniel 7:13-14) combining full humanity with divine authority | ”Son of Man,” “one like a son of man” | Christ’s glorified, divine-and-human authority (1:13) | মীওইগী মচানুপা (miwoigi machanupa), parallel in structure to baseline’s তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা (Son of God). Risk: High. Ties Deity of Christ and Humanity of Christ doctrines together; must not be softened into a merely honorific human-teacher title. |
| Seven Spirits (of God) | τὰ ἑπτὰ πνεύματα | ta hepta pneumata | the seven spirits | A symbolic (sevenfold/complete) representation of the one Holy Spirit’s fullness before God’s throne, not seven distinct spirit-beings | ”seven spirits” | The perfect, complete presence and ministry of the one Holy Spirit (1:4; 4:5; 5:6) | তেংবাং মপুগী থাওয়াই তরেৎ (Tengban Mapugi thawai taret). Risk: Critical. Must be taught explicitly as one Holy Spirit in his fullness (reusing থাওয়াই অসেংবা, Critical baseline term), never as a populated multiplicity of spirit-beings — the exact risk the baseline already flags regarding bare থাওয়াই resonating with Sanamahi’s populated spirit-world of ancestral and Umang Lai nature-spirits. |
| Keys of Death and Hades | τὰς κλεῖς τοῦ θανάτου καὶ τοῦ ᾅδου | tas kleis tou thanatou kai tou hadou | the keys of death and Hades | Christ’s total authority over death and the realm of the dead | ”keys of Death and Hades” | Christ’s resurrection victory grants him sovereign authority over death itself (1:18) | সিবা অমসুং হেডেসকী চাবি (siba amasung Hedeski chabi), transliterating Hades. Risk: High. Reuses সিবদগী হিংজত-লকপা (resurrection, Critical) contextually; must not be conflated with any ancestral-spirit-realm concept in Sanamahi cosmology (the Apokpa/ancestral spirit world). |
“Lord,” “God,” “Jesus,” “Christ,” “church,” “kingdom,” “glory,” “grace” — all reused exactly from the Romans baseline (opening greeting, 1:4-6).
Chapters 2-3 (Letters to the Seven Churches)
Chapters 2 and 3 are treated together: chapter 3 substantially reuses the theological vocabulary introduced in chapter 2, applying it to the remaining five churches. New items are noted where each first appears.
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Repent | μετανοέω | metanoeō | to change one’s mind, to turn | An inward change of mind/heart resulting in a changed direction of life | ”repent” | Called-for genuine turning back to God/first works, not ritual atonement (2:5,16,21-22; 3:3,19) | থমোই হোংদোকপা (thamoi hongdokpa, “changing one’s heart/mind”). Risk: High. Must convey inward transformation and turning to God, distinct from ritual purification rites performed before Lai Haraoba or from prayaschitta-style atonement acts in Vaishnava practice. |
| Overcome/conquer | νικάω | nikaō | to conquer, prevail, win | Persevering faithfulness rewarded, the refrain closing all seven letters | ”overcome,” “conquer,” “he who is victorious” | The central promise-structure of the seven letters, tying directly into Perseverance and the “second death” of 21:8 | ন্গম্বা (ngamba); see 21:7 entry. Risk: High. Consistency across chs. 2-3 and 21 is required per the theological consistency rules. |
| Tree of life | τὸ ξύλον τῆς ζωῆς | to xylon tēs zōēs | the tree of life | Edenic symbol of eternal life, restored (2:7; cf. 22:2,14) | “tree of life” | Access to eternal life granted to the overcomer, prefiguring ch. 22 | হিংবগী উপাল (hingbagi upal). Risk: High. Sacred groves (Umang Lai) in Lai Haraoba practice are often centered on a specific sacred tree associated with a nature-deity; this must be explicitly distinguished — the Tree of Life is located in the New Jerusalem and is God/Lamb’s own gift of eternal life, not a tree inhabited by or embodying a nature-spirit. |
| Book of Life | τὸ βιβλίον τῆς ζωῆς | to biblion tēs zōēs | the book of life | The divine record of those who belong to God eternally (3:5; cf. 20:12,15; 21:27) | “book of life” | Assurance that the overcomer’s name is permanently recorded before God | হিংবগী লাইরিক (hingbagi lairik). Risk: Medium. Distinguish from any karmic ledger concept; this is a record of God’s own gracious ownership, not an accumulating merit-account. |
| Crown of life / crown | στέφανος | stephanos | wreath, victor’s crown | A crown awarded for victory or faithful endurance (2:10; 3:11) | “crown of life,” “crown” | Reward for faithful endurance under persecution/martyrdom | হিংবগী লুকোক (hingbagi lukok). Risk: High. Must avoid resonance with the ceremonial kirīṭ crown worn by Krishna in Ras Lila costuming; this crown is a vindication-reward for faithful martyrs/overcomers, not royal-devotional ornamentation of a worshiped icon. |
| Synagogue of Satan / Satan | ὁ Σατανᾶς | ho Satanas | Satan, the adversary | The personal, ultimate spiritual enemy | ”Satan,” “the devil,” “the adversary” | The source of persecution and false teaching opposing the churches (2:9,13,24; 3:9) | শাইতান (Shaitan), transliterated (a widely attested regional loanword for Satan). Risk: High. Sets up the Dragon identification in ch.12; must never be conflated with any Umang Lai spirit or Pakhangba figure. |
| New Jerusalem (first mention) | ἡ καινὴ Ἰερουσαλήμ | hē kainē Ierousalēm | the new Jerusalem | See ch. 21 | ”New Jerusalem” | Promised inheritance for the overcomer (3:12) | See 21:2 entry; reuse exactly. |
| Refined gold / white garments | χρυσίον πεπυρωμένον / ἱμάτια λευκά | chrysion pepyrōmenon / himatia leuka | gold refined by fire / white garments | Tested, purified wealth/righteousness; purity given by Christ, not self-purchased | ”gold refined in the fire,” “white garments” | Christ offers true spiritual riches and righteousness to the self-deceived, materially wealthy Laodicean church (3:17-18) | মেইনা শেংহলবা সনা (meina senghalaba sana, “gold purified by fire”) / অঙৌবা ফী (angouba phi, “white garment/cloth”). Risk: Medium. Ties to imputed_righteousness baseline concept (পীথোকপা অচুম্বা চৎনবিরাক): righteousness/purity is given by Christ, not self-purchased through wealth or ritual devotion. |
“Church,” “saints,” “faith,” “apostle” (2:2, false apostles), “prophet” (false prophetess Jezebel, 2:20), “tribulation” (2:9-10), “David” (“key of David,” 3:7) — reused exactly from baseline/introduced terms above; Israel (2:14, Balaam) reused.
Chapter 4
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Throne | θρόνος | thronos | throne | See 21:3,5 | ”throne” | The vision’s controlling image: God’s absolute, cosmic sovereignty (used ~12 times in this chapter alone) | ফম্বল; reuse, High risk as above. |
| Worship | προσκυνέω | proskyneō | to bow down, prostrate oneself, do homage | Physical prostration expressing submission and homage; in Revelation, always directed either rightly to God/Lamb or wrongly to the dragon/beast/idols | ”worship,” “fall down before,” “do homage” | The twenty-four elders and four living creatures continuously worship God alone (4:10-11) | খুরুম্জবা (khurumjaba, “to bow/prostrate/pay homage”). Risk: High. The single most collision-prone verb in the book. Must always be checked for its object: worship belongs to God/the Lamb alone. Must be kept distinct from prostration/āratī gestures before a Krishna mūrti in Vaishnava temple worship and from ritual reverence shown to the Umang Lai during Lai Haraoba. Revelation itself supplies the sharpest teaching tool against misdirected worship at 19:10 and 22:8-9, where an angel refuses John’s worship — use these scenes explicitly. |
| Holy, Holy, Holy | ἅγιος ἅγιος ἅγιος | hagios hagios hagios | holy, holy, holy | The trisagion, the fullest possible declaration of God’s total, unshared holiness (Isaiah 6:3 echoed) | “Holy, holy, holy” | The living creatures’ unceasing declaration of God’s moral perfection and total set-apartness | অসেংবা, অসেংবা, অসেংবা; reuse baseline’s অসেংবা exactly, three times. Risk: High (inherits baseline tier). |
| Almighty | παντοκράτωρ | pantokratōr | ruler of all | See ch.1 | ”Almighty” | Reuse; central refrain of the heavenly worship scenes | See ch.1 entry; reuse exactly across all occurrences (4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:7,14; 19:6,15; 21:22). |
Chapter 5
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Lamb | ἀρνίον | arnion | little lamb | The dominant Christological title of Revelation (used 28 times), depicting Christ as the once-slain, now-triumphant, worthy-to-be-worshiped sacrifice | ”the Lamb,” “Lamb of God” | Christ’s atoning death and resulting universal sovereignty and worship — the central image for Worship of the Lamb doctrine | য়াওমচা (yaomacha, the ordinary Meitei word for a lamb/young sheep). Risk: Critical. This is the single highest-stakes new term in the book. It must be taught with explicit contrast to avatar theology (see baseline অবতার caution): the worshiped, once-slain Lamb is not one of Vishnu’s animal-form avatars (e.g., Matsya, Varaha) in a recognized avatar sequence, but the eternal Son’s unique sacrificial identity, worthy of the worship due to God alone precisely because he is God incarnate, once, permanently — never a repeating divine descent in animal or any other form. |
| Worthy | ἄξιος | axios | worthy, deserving | Fit, deserving of honor/worship because of demonstrated character/accomplishment | ”worthy” | Only the slain Lamb is found worthy to open the scroll — his worthiness is earned by his own sacrifice, not conferred by devotee merit-building | ফাংবা (phangba, “worthy/fit/deserving”). Risk: High. |
| Slain | ἐσφαγμένον (σφάζω) | esphagmenon (sphazō) | slaughtered, slain (as a sacrifice) | Violent, sacrificial death | ”slain,” “who was slain” | Christ’s once-for-all atoning death, the ground of his worthiness and worship | হাত্খ্রবা (hatkhraba, “having been killed/slain”). Risk: Critical. Must be taught as a completed, unrepeatable, substitutionary sacrifice — not a repeated propitiatory offering pattern such as traditional sacrifices historically offered to the Umang Lai, nor an ongoing devotional reenactment. |
| Redeemed/purchased | ἠγόρασας (ἀγοράζω) | ēgorasas (agorazō) | you purchased, bought | Buying at a price, especially from slavery (redemption) | “redeemed,” “purchased,” “ransomed” | The Lamb’s blood purchases people from every nation for God (5:9) | রেকপা — better: লৌখৎপা (loukhatpa, “bought/redeemed/purchased [out]”). Risk: High. Ties directly to baseline’s salvation (অহানবা, Critical) and grace concepts; redemption is accomplished, not accumulated through devotional service. |
| Elders (twenty-four) | οἱ πρεσβύτεροι | hoi presbyteroi | the elders | Heavenly representative figures around God’s throne, likely symbolizing the redeemed people of both covenants | ”elders,” “twenty-four elders” | Worship leaders in the heavenly throne-room scene | অহলশিং (ahalshing, “the elders”). Risk: Medium. |
| New song | ᾆσμα καινόν | asma kainon | new song | A fresh song composed for a new redemptive act | ”new song” | Praise specifically celebrating the Lamb’s redemptive worthiness | অনৌবা এশৈ (anouba eshei). Risk: Low. |
Chapter 6
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Seal(s) | σφραγίς | sphragis | seal | A wax/authority seal securing a scroll; symbolically, God’s sovereign control over unfolding judgment | ”seal(s)“ | God alone, through the Lamb, controls the sequence and timing of end-time judgment — Sovereignty of God over History | চাপ (chap, “seal/stamp”). Risk: High. Ties directly to Providence (তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং, High); the opening of seals must be taught as purposive divine sovereignty, never impersonal fate (ৱাইফম, forbidden per baseline). |
| Four horsemen (white, red, black, pale) | (no single Greek term; ἵππος = horse) | hippos | horse | Symbolic riders representing conquest, war, famine, and death, unleashed under God’s sovereign permission | ”the four horsemen” | Divinely permitted historical judgments preceding the end — not autonomous cosmic forces | শগোল মরি (shagol mari, “the four horses”). Risk: Medium. Interpretive-method note: read symbolically (Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation doctrine), not as a literal prediction of specific historical riders. |
| Souls under the altar | αἱ ψυχαὶ…ὑποκάτω τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου | hai psychai…hypokatō tou thysiastēriou | the souls…under the altar | Martyrs’ souls crying for vindication | ”souls under the altar” | The cry of martyrs for divine justice — links Perseverance under Persecution directly to Vindication of the Saints | স্তাক্পোনদা লৈরিবা থাওয়াইশিং (stakponda leiriba thawaishing, “the souls [that are] under the altar”). Risk: High. |
Chapter 7
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Sealed / 144,000 | ἐσφραγισμένοι | esphragismenoi | sealed, marked | Marked as God’s own possession and under his protection | ”sealed,” “the 144,000” | God’s protective ownership-mark on his people, contrasted later with the beast’s mark (ch.13) | চাপ চাংবা (chap changba, “having been sealed”), reusing চাপ (seal, ch.6). Risk: Medium. Numerals kept as Arabic numerals (144,000) per baseline citation convention. |
| Great multitude | ὄχλος πολύς | ochlos polys | a great crowd | An uncountable multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and tongue | ”great multitude,” “a great crowd” | Universal Scope of the Gospel realized: no ethnic, clan, or national barrier to salvation | য়াম্না অহুম মীওই কয়া (yamna ahum miwoi kaya, “a very great crowd of people”). Risk: High. Directly reuses and extends baseline’s Universal Scope of the Gospel doctrine (নুংঙাইবগী পাউগী মপুংফাবা য়ামলবা); given contemporary inter-community sensitivities in Manipur, this must be taught as gospel unity across all peoples, not mapped onto present ethnic-community relations. |
| Wipe away every tear | ἐξαλείψει…πᾶν δάκρυον | exaleipsei…pan dakryon | he will wipe away every tear | Complete removal of sorrow | ”wipe away every tear” | Anticipates 21:4 exactly | See 21:4 entry; reuse exactly for theological consistency. |
Chapter 8
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Trumpet(s) | σάλπιγξ | salpinx | trumpet | A signaling instrument announcing divinely appointed events/judgments | ”trumpet(s)“ | Structured, sequential divine judgment (parallel structure to the seals) | শাগোল-মহী — simplify: তুরী (turi, “trumpet,” a plausible existing Meitei word for a wind/signal instrument). Risk: Medium. |
| Prayers of the saints (incense) | αἱ προσευχαὶ τῶν ἁγίων | hai proseuchai tōn hagiōn | the prayers of the saints | Believers’ prayers pictured as incense rising before God’s throne | ”the prayers of the saints” | Direct divine reception of the church’s prayers — reuses Intercession/Prayer doctrine | অসেংবা মীওইশিংগী হায়জবা (asengba miwoishinggi haijaba), reusing অসেংবা মীওই (saints, High) and হায়জবা (prayer/intercession root). Risk: Medium. Must be distinguished from petitions traditionally carried to the Umang Lai through a maibi/maiba’s ritual mediation (per baseline’s intercession caution); believers’ prayers rise directly to God, without any ritual intermediary. |
Chapter 9
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Bottomless pit / abyss | ἡ ἄβυσσος | hē abyssos | the abyss, the bottomless pit | The place of confinement for demonic forces | ”bottomless pit,” “abyss” | A place of divine confinement under God’s sovereign control, not an independent demonic realm | হৌদোংদবা কোম (houdongdaba kom, “the bottomless pit”). Risk: Medium. |
| Locusts / Abaddon-Apollyon | ἀκρίδες / Ἀβαδδών / Ἀπολλύων | akrides / Abaddōn / Apollyōn | locusts / “Destruction” / “Destroyer” | Symbolic demonic tormenting forces, named for their destructive purpose, operating only within limits God permits | ”locusts,” “Abaddon,” “the Destroyer” | Even demonic torment operates under bounded divine permission — reinforces Sovereignty of God over History even over evil forces | য়ুবী (yubi, locust) / আবাদ্দোন (Abaddon), আপোল্লুওন (Apollyon), transliterated proper names. Risk: Medium. Interpretive-method note: symbolic imagery of destructive judgment, not literal entomology. |
Chapter 10
Chapter 10 introduces no major new theological-doctrine vocabulary beyond established terms; it reuses “prophecy” (ফোংদোকপা ৱারোল, 10:7,11), “mystery” (see ch.17 entry below, first appearing here at 10:7 as “the mystery of God”), and imagery of a scroll consistent with ch.5. New item:
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Mystery (of God) | τὸ μυστήριον (τοῦ θεοῦ) | to mystērion (tou theou) | mystery, hidden secret now disclosed | God’s redemptive plan, once hidden, now being revealed/completed | ”the mystery of God” | God’s sovereign plan for history reaching its climax — ties directly to Sovereignty of God over History | তেংবাং মপুগী থুগাইরবা ৱাফম (Tengban Mapugi thugairaba wapham, “God’s hidden/secret matter”). Risk: Medium. |
Chapter 11
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Two witnesses | οἱ δύο μάρτυρες | hoi dyo martyres | the two witnesses | Prophetic figures who testify faithfully, are killed, and are raised — a pattern-model for the whole church’s witness | ”the two witnesses” | The pattern of faithful witness even unto death, vindicated by resurrection | সাক্ষী অনি (sakshi ani, “the two witnesses”), reusing সাক্ষী (witness, see ch.1). Risk: High. Central to Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution doctrine. |
| Kingdom of the world / kingdom of our Lord | ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ κόσμου / τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν | hē basileia tou kosmou / tou kyriou hēmōn | the kingdom of the world / of our Lord | Political-cosmic authority transferring decisively from worldly powers to Christ’s eternal reign | ”the kingdoms of this world have become the kingdom of our Lord” | The Return and Reign of Christ doctrine announced in summary (11:15) | Reuse তেংবাং মপুগী লৈপাক (kingdom of God, Medium) and মপু ইবুংগো (Lord, Critical) exactly. Risk: Critical (elevated in this context as the book’s thematic turning point toward Christ’s reign). |
| Ark of the Covenant | ἡ κιβωτὸς τῆς διαθήκης | hē kibōtos tēs diathēkēs | the ark of the covenant | Old Testament symbol of God’s covenant presence with his people | ”the ark of the covenant” | God’s covenant faithfulness now fully and visibly present in heaven | ৱারেপ্পগী হিদাক (wareppagi hidak, “the box/ark of the covenant”), reusing ৱারেপ্পা (covenant, High). Risk: Medium. |
Chapter 12
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Dragon | ὁ δράκων | ho drakōn | dragon, serpent-monster | Explicitly identified as “that ancient serpent… Satan” (12:9) | “the dragon,” “that ancient serpent,” “Satan,” “the devil” | Satan’s ultimate, cosmic opposition to God and his people, defeated by the blood of the Lamb | ড্রাগন (Dragon), a deliberate transliteration rather than a native descriptive term. Risk: Critical. This is one of the two highest-stakes term decisions in the entire book. Meitei traditional belief holds Pakhangba, an ancestral serpent-deity and elder brother of Sanamahi, to be the divine ancestor of the historic Meitei kingship (the Ningthou throne lineage). Any native Manipuri word for “great serpent” risks being heard as an implicit identification of Satan with Pakhangba, or of Pakhangba-descended royal identity with the dragon’s defeat narrative — an explosive and unintended claim. The transliterated foreign term ড্রাগন is deliberately chosen, on the same logic as ক্রিস্তো (Messiah) and other transliterated Critical terms, to name this figure as a distinct, non-native mythological category without importing or contradicting any specific claim about Pakhangba. This choice, and its reasoning, must be taught explicitly, not left for readers to infer. |
| Michael | Μιχαήλ | Michaēl | (Hebrew) “Who is like God?” | The archangel who leads heaven’s armies against the dragon | ”Michael,” “Michael the archangel” | A created angelic being who serves and fights for God, not an independent divine warrior-figure | মাইকেল (Maikel), transliterated proper name. Risk: Medium. The “war in heaven” imagery must be distinguished from any Sanamahi framework of contending spirits or ancestral guardian-spirit warfare; Michael is a created servant of the one true God, not a spirit-power operating independently. |
| Accuser | ὁ κατήγορος | ho katēgoros | the accuser | One who brings formal legal accusation | ”the accuser” | Satan’s role opposing the saints before God, now overcome | থাগত্লিবা মীওই — better: মায়োক্তা ৱারেপা মীওই simplify to অভিযোগ তৌবা (obhijog tauba, “the one who accuses/brings a charge”). Risk: Medium. |
| Overcame by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony | ἐνίκησαν…διὰ τὸ αἷμα τοῦ ἀρνίου καὶ διὰ τὸν λόγον τῆς μαρτυρίας αὐτῶν | enikēsan…dia to haima tou arniou kai dia ton logon tēs martyrias autōn | they overcame…through the blood of the Lamb and through the word of their testimony | The believers’ victory over the accuser is grounded entirely in Christ’s atoning blood and their own faithful testimony, even to death (12:11) | “they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” | The theological center of Perseverance/Vindication doctrine: victory is Christ-accomplished, testified-to, not self-achieved | Reuse ন্গম্বা (overcome), য়াওমচা (Lamb), সাক্ষী (witness/testimony) exactly. Risk: Critical — this is arguably the single most important sentence in the book for the Perseverance and Faithful Witness doctrine and must be rendered with maximal fidelity and consistency. |
Chapter 13
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Beast (from the sea / from the earth) | τὸ θηρίον | to thērion | wild beast, monster | A monstrous, God-opposing political-religious power, empowered by the dragon | ”the beast” | Worldly power demanding ultimate allegiance and worship in place of God — the object lesson of Perseverance under Persecution | শা চাউবা (sha chauba, “the great/monstrous beast”). Risk: High. Not tied to a specific native deity-name (unlike the dragon), but must still be taught carefully as a symbolic figure for God-opposing worldly power demanding worship, not a literal zoological or specific-nation prediction (Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation doctrine), and not casually identified with any particular living nation or community given Manipur’s sensitive inter-community context. |
| Mark of the beast | τὸ χάραγμα τοῦ θηρίου | to charagma tou thēriou | the mark/stamp of the beast | A visible sign of allegiance to the beast, contrasted with God’s seal on his people (ch.7) | “the mark of the beast” | The ultimate allegiance test under persecution | শাগী খুদম (shagi khudam, “the mark/sign of the beast”), reusing খুদম (sign, see ch.13/interpretive vocabulary). Risk: High. Doctrinally central to Perseverance under Persecution as a test of exclusive loyalty to Christ versus worldly power. |
| Worship the beast/image | προσκυνέω τὸ θηρίον / τὴν εἰκόνα | proskyneō to thērion / tēn eikona | to worship the beast/the image | Misdirected worship given to a political-religious power and its image | ”worship the beast,” “worship its image” | The counterfeit-worship crisis of the whole book, resolved rightly only in worship of the Lamb (chs.5,7,15,19) | Reuse খুরুম্জবা (worship, Critical/High); object is beast/image rather than God — this negative usage is itself instructive for teaching right versus wrong worship. Risk: Critical. |
| Number of the beast, 666 | ὁ ἀριθμὸς αὐτοῦ…χξϛ | ho arithmos autou…chi xi stigma | his number…666 | A symbolic numerical cipher, subject to careful, non-speculative interpretation | ”the number of the beast,” “666” | Symbolic imperfection/falling short of divine completeness (7), not a literal ID code to be matched to any living figure | Numeral kept as Arabic numeral ৬৬৬ is not used per baseline citation convention (Arabic numerals, not Bengali numerals, for numbers matching the YouVersion reference system) — render as 666. Risk: High. Strong interpretive caution required against date-setting or identity-guessing speculation, a live risk in any apocalyptically-engaged reading community. |
Chapter 14
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Eternal gospel | εὐαγγέλιον αἰώνιον | euangelion aiōnion | eternal/everlasting good news | The gospel proclaimed to every nation as final judgment nears | ”eternal gospel,” “everlasting gospel” | Reuses baseline gospel term exactly, intensified with “eternal” | Reuse নুংঙাইবগী পাউ (baseline, High) + তরত্তি ওইবা (taratti oiba, “eternal/everlasting”). Risk: High (inherits baseline). |
| Blood/winepress of God’s wrath | ἡ ληνὸς τοῦ θυμοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ | hē lēnos tou thymou tou theou | the winepress of the wrath of God | Vivid harvest-judgment imagery for final divine judgment on the unrepentant | ”the winepress of God’s wrath” | Judgment of the Wicked doctrine in its most visceral image | তেংবাং মপুগী শাউবগী অচেৎপা (Tengban Mapugi shaubagi achetpa, “God’s wrath’s press[ing]”). Risk: High. |
| Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord | μακάριοι οἱ νεκροὶ οἱ ἐν κυρίῳ ἀποθνήσκοντες | makarioi hoi nekroi hoi en kyriō apothnēskontes | blessed [are] the dead who die in the Lord | Comfort for martyrs: rest from labor, deeds remembered | ”blessed are the dead who die in the Lord” | Direct pastoral comfort for those who die under persecution — Vindication of the Saints | Reuse মপু ইবুংগো (Lord, Critical) + descriptive “blessed” য়াইফরে (yaiphare). Risk: High. |
Chapter 15
Chapter 15 introduces largely reused vocabulary (worship, Almighty, tabernacle/temple, glory — see chs. 1, 3-4, 21) applied to the seven bowl-judgment vision. One notable new item:
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Song of Moses and of the Lamb | ἡ ᾠδὴ Μωϋσέος…καὶ ἡ ᾠδὴ τοῦ ἀρνίου | hē ōdē Mōyseos…kai hē ōdē tou arniou | the song of Moses…and the song of the Lamb | Old and new covenant deliverance songs joined as one act of worship | ”the song of Moses and of the Lamb” | Continuity between the Exodus deliverance and the Lamb’s final deliverance — Sovereignty of God over History spanning both covenants | Reuse এশৈ (song, see ch.5) + য়াওমচা (Lamb, Critical). Risk: High. |
Chapter 16
Chapter 16 (the seven bowls) reuses established vocabulary (wrath, worship, blasphemy, Almighty, plagues) with no major new doctrinal term beyond one proper-noun item and one recurring phrase:
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Armageddon | Ἁρμαγεδών | Harmagedōn | (Hebrew place name, uncertain etymology) | The symbolic gathering-place for the final cosmic battle | ”Armageddon” | Symbol of final, decisive divine victory over all God-opposing powers | আর্মাগেদন (Armagedon), transliterated proper noun. Risk: Medium. Interpretive-method note: symbolic name for the certainty of final divine victory, not a literal-geography military prediction to be tracked against current events — key teaching point for Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation. |
| ”It is done” | Γέγονεν | Gegonen | it has happened/come to pass | Completed-action declaration marking the finality of judgment | ”It is done!” | The definitive completion of God’s judging work, echoing 21:6 | তৌরে (taure, “it is done/finished”). Risk: Medium. Consistency with 21:6 (Γέγοναν) recommended. |
Chapter 17
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Babylon the great / the great harlot | Βαβυλὼν ἡ μεγάλη / ἡ πόρνη ἡ μεγάλη | Babylōn hē megalē / hē pornē hē megalē | Babylon the great / the great prostitute | A symbolic figure for the corrupt, God-opposing world-system, seductive and idolatrous | ”Babylon the great,” “the great harlot/prostitute” | The final unmasking and judgment of all worldly power allied against God and his people | ব্যাবিলোন চাউবা (Byabilon chauba), transliterated proper noun + চাউবা (great) / লীচিংবি চাউবা (lichingbi chauba, “the great prostitute”). Risk: High. Must be taught as a symbolic figure for a corrupt world-system opposed to God — not a literal historical or contemporary city/nation/ethnic identification, and handled with particular gender-sensitivity per the system prompt’s gender-language handling guidance, preserving the Old Testament prophetic marital-unfaithfulness metaphor without reducing it to a literalist misogynistic reading. |
| Chosen/called/faithful | κλητοὶ καὶ ἐκλεκτοὶ καὶ πιστοί | klētoi kai eklektoi kai pistoi | called and chosen and faithful | The threefold description of those who remain loyal to the Lamb against the beast | ”called, chosen, and faithful” | Reuses baseline’s called/calling/election vocabulary exactly, in triple combination | Reuse কৌখিবা (called, High), তেংবাং মপুগী খনবা (election/chosen, High), থাজবা (faith/faithful, High) exactly. Risk: High. |
Chapter 18
Chapter 18 extends the Babylon judgment scene from chapter 17 with no major new theological term; it reuses Babylon, judgment, and mourning vocabulary. One notable phrase:
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| ”Come out of her, my people” | ἐξέλθατε ἐξ αὐτῆς, ὁ λαός μου | exelthate ex autēs, ho laos mou | come out of her, my people | A call to separate from complicity in a corrupt world-system’s sin | ”Come out of her, my people” | Practical call to holy separation — reuses Sanctification/Separation unto God’s Service doctrine from the baseline | Reuse অসেংবা root (holy/set-apart) contextually; মখোয়গী মপুংফাবা কোকহনবা (calling God’s people out). Risk: Medium. |
Chapter 19
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Hallelujah | Ἁλληλουϊά | Hallelouia | (Hebrew) “Praise the LORD” | An exclamation of praise, preserved untranslated | ”Hallelujah” | Heaven’s exultant response to God’s final victory over Babylon — Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil | হাল্লেলুইয়া (Halleluia), transliterated per baseline’s convention for theological proper nouns (Amen, Hallelujah) in established regional form. Risk: Low. |
| Marriage supper of the Lamb | ὁ γάμος τοῦ ἀρνίου | ho gamos tou arniou | the marriage/wedding of the Lamb | The consummation of Christ’s union with his bride, the church, celebrated corporately | ”the marriage supper of the Lamb,” “the wedding feast” | The Church as Bride of Christ doctrine reaching its climactic celebration | য়াওমচাগী লুহোংবগী চক্লেন (yaomachagi luhongbagi chaklen, “the feast of the Lamb’s wedding”), reusing য়াওমচা (Lamb, Critical) and the বride root (নুপী লৌগদবী, see 21:2). Risk: Critical. Requires the same explicit contrast with Ras Lila’s Radha-Krishna bridal-devotional paradigm noted at 21:2 — this is the corporate church’s consummated covenant union with Christ, not an individual devotee’s romantic-mystical union with a divine lover. |
| King of kings and Lord of lords | βασιλεὺς βασιλέων καὶ κύριος κυρίων | basileus basileōn kai kyrios kyriōn | king of kings and lord of lords | The highest possible superlative title, claiming absolute, exclusive supremacy over every other ruler or lord | ”King of kings and Lord of lords” | The definitive statement of the Return and Reign of Christ and Lordship of Christ doctrines | Reuse মপু ইবুংগো (Lord, Critical) intensified: মপুশিংগী মপু ইবুংগো, ৱাংমদা লৈরিবা নিংথৌশিংগী নিংথৌ (mapushinggi Mapu Ibungo, wangmada leiriba ningthoushinggi ningthou, “Lord of lords, King of the kings who are supreme”), building on নিংথৌ (ningthou), the existing Meitei word for “king,” historically tied to the Pakhangba-descent royal-lineage tradition. Risk: Critical. This is the strongest possible statement of Christ’s supremacy over every claim to lordship — including, by clear implication though not by direct polemic, any residual royal-divine claim historically made for the Meitei kingship itself. Teach with care and without direct confrontational framing toward Manipur’s own royal-historical memory. |
| Word of God | ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ | ho logos tou theou | the word of God | A divine title for Christ (19:13), echoing John 1:1,14 | ”the Word of God” | Christ’s full deity and role as God’s ultimate self-disclosure — ties directly to Incarnation and Deity of Christ doctrines | তেংবাং মপুগী ৱাহেই (Tengban Mapugi wahei, “God’s word”). Risk: Critical. |
| (Angel refuses worship) | Ὅρα μή· σύνδουλός σού εἰμι…τῷ θεῷ προσκύνησον | hora mē; syndoulos sou eimi…tō theō proskynēson | See that you do not [worship me]; I am your fellow servant…worship God | An angel’s explicit refusal of worship and redirection to God alone (19:10) | “Worship God!” | The clearest biblical anchor-text against angel/spirit veneration — directly usable in teaching against created-being worship | Reuse খুরুম্জবা (worship) and তেংবাং মপু (God) exactly; contextual emphasis: worship redirected away from a created being. Risk: High. Use this verse explicitly as the positive teaching counterpart to the idolatry warnings of 21:8 and 22:8-9 — created beings, however exalted (an angel; by extension, an Umang Lai spirit, an ancestor spirit, or any devotional icon), must never receive the worship due to God alone. |
Chapter 20
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Thousand years (millennium) | χίλια ἔτη | chilia etē | a thousand years | A specific, bounded period within Christ’s reign, variously interpreted across Christian traditions | ”a thousand years,” “the millennium” | A bounded, one-time era within the single, linear unfolding of God’s redemptive history — not a repeating cosmic age | চহি লিসিং অমা (chahi lising ama, “one thousand years”). Risk: Critical. Must never be taught or rendered in a way that resonates with the Hindu cosmological cycle of repeating yugas (Satya, Treta, Dvapara, Kali) endlessly recurring; this is a specific, bounded period within a linear, one-time eschatological timeline moving toward final, permanent consummation, whatever the interpretive position taken on its nature. |
| First resurrection | ἡ ἀνάστασις ἡ πρώτη | hē anastasis hē prōtē | the first resurrection | The initial resurrection of the faithful dead to reign with Christ, distinct from the general resurrection of all at the end | ”the first resurrection” | Reuses baseline’s resurrection term exactly, specified as “first” | Reuse সিবদগী হিংজত-লকপা (baseline, Critical) + হৌজিক্কী (houjikki, “the first [one]”). Risk: Critical (inherits baseline). Must never be rendered with rebirth/reincarnation vocabulary. |
| Great white throne | ὁ θρόνος ὁ μέγας ὁ λευκός | ho thronos ho megas ho leukos | the great white throne | The final judgment seat of God | ”the great white throne” | The final, universal judgment scene — Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints doctrines converge here | ফম্বল অঙৌবা চাউবা (phambal angouba chauba, “the great white throne”), reusing ফম্বল (throne, High). Risk: High. |
| Judged according to their works | ἐκρίθησαν…κατὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτῶν | ekrithēsan…kata ta erga autōn | they were judged…according to their works | Final judgment assessing the deeds of the unrighteous dead, consistent with but not contradicting salvation by grace through faith | ”judged according to what they had done” | Final accountability for the unrepentant — Universal Human Accountability doctrine reaching its consummation | Reuse ৱায়েল (judgment) + baseline’s মীওই পুম্নমক্কী মপুংফাবা লান্থোকপা (Universal Human Accountability doctrine) exactly. Risk: High. |
| Second death / lake of fire | ὁ θάνατος ὁ δεύτερος / ἡ λίμνη τοῦ πυρός | ho thanatos ho deuteros / hē limnē tou pyros | the second death / the lake of fire | See 21:8 | ”the second death,” “the lake of fire” | See 21:8 entries; reuse exactly. | Reuse exactly; Risk: Critical (see 21:8). |
Chapter 21 (verses 9-27, beyond the core passage)
The core passage (21:1-8) receives full verse-by-verse treatment in Part 1. Verses 9-27 largely extend and elaborate the same New Jerusalem/Bride vocabulary already established, adding architectural-symbolic detail. New items:
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| Twelve gates / twelve tribes / twelve apostles (foundations) | αἱ πύλαι δώδεκα…αἱ δώδεκα φυλαί…οἱ δώδεκα ἀπόστολοι | hai pylai dōdeka…hai dōdeka phylai…hoi dōdeka apostoloi | the twelve gates…the twelve tribes…the twelve apostles | Structural symbolism uniting the Old and New Covenant peoples of God in one city | ”twelve gates,” “twelve tribes,” “twelve apostles” | Unity of Jews and Gentiles doctrine given permanent architectural expression; reuses Israel and apostle terms exactly | Reuse ইস্রায়েল (Israel, Medium) and তবিদগী থাবিরকপা (apostle, Medium) exactly. Risk: High. |
| Glory of God as its light | ἡ δόξα τοῦ θεοῦ | hē doxa tou theou | the glory of God | God’s own radiant presence replacing sun and moon as the city’s light source | ”the glory of God is its light” | Deity of Christ / God’s glory doctrine given its final, cosmic expression | Reuse মতিক চাউবা (glory, baseline, High) exactly. Risk: High. Avoid metaphors evoking the staged visual splendor of Ras Lila performance, designed to evoke Krishna’s own divine radiance for worshipers — the baseline’s existing caution applies with full force here. |
| Nothing unclean shall enter | οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς αὐτὴν πᾶν κοινὸν | ou mē eiselthē eis autēn pan koinon | nothing common/unclean will ever enter it | Total moral purity of the eternal city, admitting only those written in the Lamb’s book of life | ”nothing unclean will ever enter it” | Final sanctification doctrine completed | Reuse অসেংবা (holy) contrastively + হিংবগী লাইরিক (book of life, Medium). Risk: High. |
Chapter 22
| Term | Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Manipuri Rendering & Risk |
|---|
| River/water of life | ὁ ποταμὸς…ὕδατος ζωῆς | ho potamos…hydatos zōēs | the river of the water of life | The Edenic river-of-life image restored eternally in the New Jerusalem | ”the river of the water of life” | See 21:6 entry; reuse exactly | Reuse হিংবগী ইশিং exactly. Risk: Medium (see 21:6). |
| Tree of life (fruit for healing) | τὸ ξύλον τῆς ζωῆς | to xylon tēs zōēs | the tree of life | See ch.2 | ”the tree of life” | See ch. 2 entry; reuse exactly, now with “healing of the nations” added — ties to Universal Scope of the Gospel | Reuse হিংবগী উপাল exactly. Risk: High (see ch.2). |
| No more curse | οὐκ ἔσται…κατάρα | ouk estai…katara | there will no longer be any curse | The Genesis 3 curse permanently and finally reversed | ”no more curse” | Completion of redemptive history — Sovereignty of God over History and New Heaven/New Earth doctrines converge | শৰাপ্না লৈরোই (sharapna leiroi, “curse will no longer exist”). Risk: High. |
| ”Behold, I am coming soon” | ἰδοὺ ἔρχομαι ταχύ | idou erchomai tachy | Behold, I am coming quickly/soon | Christ’s own promise of imminent, certain return, repeated three times in this chapter (22:7,12,20) | “I am coming soon” | The Return and Reign of Christ doctrine’s climactic promise | য়েংগেৎলু, এই থুনা লাক্কনি (yengetlu, ei thuna lakkani, “behold, I will come soon”). Risk: High. Must retain certainty and imminence without implying a datable timetable — pastoral care needed given historical instances of date-setting speculation around apocalyptic texts. |
| Blessed is the one who keeps the words of this prophecy / do not add or take away | μακάριος ὁ τηρῶν…μὴ ἐπιθῇς…μὴ ἀφέλῃ | makarios ho tērōn…mē epithēs…mē aphelēs | blessed is the one who keeps…do not add…do not take away | A canonical seal protecting the integrity and authority of the text itself | ”do not add to or take away from the words of this prophecy” | Inspiration of Scripture doctrine, reused from the baseline, given its final and strongest statement in the whole canon | Reuse baseline’s Inspiration of Scripture doctrine note (অসেংবা মপুং ৱারিগী থাওয়াই পীবা) exactly, with the historical sensitivity already flagged there regarding the 1729 Puya Meithaba burning of indigenous Meitei religious manuscripts (puya). Risk: Critical. |
| ”Come, Lord Jesus” | Ἔρχου, Κύριε Ἰησοῦ | Erchou, Kyrie Iēsou | Come, Lord Jesus | The church’s answering prayer of longing for Christ’s return, paralleling the Aramaic Marana tha (1 Cor 16:22) | “Come, Lord Jesus!” | The confessional climax of the whole book, structurally parallel to Romans 10:9’s “Jesus is Lord” confession | জিসু, লাক্কো মপু ইবুংগো (Jisu, lakko Mapu Ibungo, “Jesus, come, Lord!”), reusing জিসু (Jesus, Critical) and মপু ইবুংগো (Lord, Critical) exactly. Risk: Critical. Per the theological consistency rules established for Romans 10:9, this confession must be rendered identically wherever it recurs across all curriculum documents. |
| Grace be with all | ἡ χάρις…μετὰ πάντων | hē charis…meta pantōn | the grace [of the Lord Jesus] be with all | The book’s closing benediction | ”the grace of the Lord Jesus be with all” | Reuses baseline grace term exactly as the book’s final word | Reuse মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং exactly. Risk: Critical (inherits baseline). |
| Amen | Ἀμήν | Amēn | (Hebrew) “truly, so be it” | Closing liturgical affirmation | ”Amen” | The book’s final word, sealing its truth-claims | আমেন (Amen), transliterated per baseline convention. Risk: Low. |
Summary Observations for Phase 2 Preparation
- Two new Critical-risk collision points not present in Romans dominate this book: (a) the Dragon (δράκων), which risks conflation with the Pakhangba ancestral-serpent lineage tradition of Meitei kingship, resolved here by deliberate transliteration (ড্রাগন); and (b) the Bride of Christ / marriage supper of the Lamb, which risks absorption into the live, prestigious Radha-Krishna bridal-devotional paradigm of Ras Lila.
- Worship (προσκυνέω) is the single most frequently recurring collision-prone verb in the book (over 20 occurrences) and must always be checked for its object (God/Lamb vs. beast/dragon/idol/angel) at every occurrence.
- Idolatry vocabulary (εἰδωλολάτρης and related) requires the most pastorally careful handling in the entire curriculum, given the live, currently-practiced status of both Sanamahi and Vaishnava devotional traditions; it must never be taught as a direct verdict on a named present-day practice.
- Cyclical-time collision (new heaven/earth, the millennium) recurs as a structural risk distinct from, but related to, the baseline’s resurrection/rebirth caution, and must be flagged at every occurrence of “new” (καινός) applied to creation and at “a thousand years.”
- All Romans-baseline Critical/High terms reused in Revelation inherit their baseline risk tier without modification, per the hard rule that established renderings must be reused exactly; several (Lamb-adjacent Lord/God/Christ language, resurrection, salvation, righteousness, called/election, grace, saints, church, kingdom of God) recur so densely in Revelation’s worship scenes that their consistency enforcement is even more operationally important here than in Romans.
