Core Glossary
08 Core Glossary — 2 Thessalonians | English → Manipuri
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, across all three chapters of 2 Thessalonians. Terms already established in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked Reused (baseline) and MUST be applied exactly as recorded there — no deviation permitted. Terms newly required by this curriculum are marked New (provisional) and require confirmation by a native Manipuri-speaking theologian before Phase 2 translation, per the same standard the baseline applied to its own provisional entries.
Legend
- Risk: Critical / High / Medium / Low (definitions per baseline
doctrine_risk_registry.json) - Status: Reused (baseline) = apply exactly as recorded in baseline
translation_memory.json; New (provisional) = proposed here, pending confirmation - Doctrine: maps to the five curriculum doctrines (Day of the Lord; Man of Lawlessness; Perseverance under Persecution; God’s Righteous Judgment; Standing Firm in the Traditions) or to a baseline-shared doctrine category

| traditions | পাউদম তম্বীরকপা | paodam tambirakpa | Critical | New (provisional) | Standing Firm in the Traditions | CRITICAL: must be distinguished from Sanamahi ancestral custom (চাংলোন-type observance, yumnak-transmitted) and Vaishnava śāstra/guru-paramparā ritual tradition; this names a closed body of apostolic Christ-centered teaching, not a living communal ritual-custom stream |
| establish / strengthen | চেৎহনবা | chetnhanba | Medium | New (provisional) | Standing Firm in the Traditions | God’s own strengthening work in believers |

Risk Summary for 2 Thessalonians New Terms
| Risk | Count of New (provisional) terms | Review routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 8 | Human theologian (mandatory, every occurrence) |
| High | 17 | Human theologian (mandatory) |
| Medium | 10 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 6 | Automated review sufficient |
Note: All Critical and High risk new terms above must be confirmed by a human theologian and cross-checked against a current printed Manipuri Bible (where 2 Thessalonians is included) before Phase 2 translation proceeds, consistent with the baseline package’s own standard for provisional entries. New terms should be added to a curriculum-specific extension of translation_memory.json (not by editing the baseline Romans file) and cross-referenced back to this glossary and to analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md for their full contextual justification.
Critical Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং
Transliteration: mathou tadana piba tengbang
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: কৃপা (bhakti-responsive favor, avoid as primary term), পুণ্য (devotional merit, never use)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Frames the opening and closing of 2 Thessalonians (1:2, 1:12, 2:16, 3:18); must continue to resist collapse into Vaishnava bhakti’s কৃপা, reinforced because 2:16-17’s comfort and establishing work are grounded in grace received, not devotional merit accumulated through endurance under persecution.
Father
Approved rendering: ইপা
Transliteration: Ipa
Doctrine: Adoption/God the Father
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Retains the warmth/intimacy sense established in Romans 8, extended here to 2:16’s comfort-giving Father alongside grace and peace (1:1-2).
Resurrection
Approved rendering: সিবদগী হিংজত-লকপা
Transliteration: sibadagi hingjat-lakpa
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: পুনর্জন্ম (rebirth/reincarnation, never use)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Not directly named in 2 Thessalonians’ text but foundational to Christ’s Lordship and the Day of the Lord doctrines this letter teaches; retained here for cross-curriculum consistency and doctrinal grounding.
Lord
Approved rendering: মপু ইবুংগো
Transliteration: Mapu Ibungo
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ঠাকুর (Krishna-specific devotional title, avoid)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Load-bearing throughout 2 Thessalonians (‘our Lord Jesus Christ,’ 1:1-2, 12; ‘the Lord’s coming,’ 2:1-8; ‘the Lord of peace,’ 3:16); serves as the root for new compounds parousia (Lord’s coming) and day_of_the_lord below.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা
Transliteration: Tengban Mapugi machanupa
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: অবতার (avatar, explicit downgrade, rejected)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Not directly named in 2 Thessalonians’ text but essential as the deliberate structural counterpart the curriculum contrasts against ‘son_of_destruction’ (2:3); this contrast must be taught explicitly every occurrence.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: মীওইগী মহৈ লৌবা
Transliteration: miwoigi mahai louba
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: অবতার (never use)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Retained for cross-curriculum consistency; supports the doctrine that Christ’s ‘appearing’ (2:8) is a unique, unrepeated event, never a recurring avatar-descent.
Messiah
Approved rendering: ক্রিস্তো
Transliteration: Christo
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. ‘Our Lord Jesus Christ’ recurs throughout 2 Thessalonians (1:1-2, 1:7-8, 1:12, 2:1, 2:14, 2:16, 3:6, 3:18).
Jesus
Approved rendering: জিসু
Transliteration: Jisu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Confirm against a current printed Manipuri Bible before finalizing, per baseline caution.
God
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপু
Transliteration: Tengban Mapu
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ঠাকুর (avoid), সানামাহি (never use as primary term for the biblical God)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Foundational throughout 2 Thessalonians; root of the new compound temple_of_god below.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: থাওয়াই অসেংবা
Transliteration: Thawai Asengba
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: থাওয়াই alone (never use without অসেংবা), শক্তি (never use)
Original: πνεῦμα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly, always in full. In 2:13, ‘sanctification of the Spirit’ is one of the means of election; never bare থাওয়াই, which in Sanamahi belief extends to ancestral and Umang Lai nature-spirits.
Salvation
Approved rendering: অহানবা
Transliteration: ahanba
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: মোক্ষ (never use), লাইনিং (devotional union/absorption, never use)
Original: σωτηρία / σωθῆναι
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. In 2:10, presented as the real, missable alternative to being deceived, freely rejected by those who did not receive the love of the truth; never মোক্ষ, never devotional union with Krishna.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: অচুম্বা চৎনবিরাক
Transliteration: achumba chatnabirak
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ধর্ম (avoid)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Root অচুম্বা is reused extensively in this curriculum’s new terms (truth, gods_righteous_judgment, unrighteousness, love_of_the_truth, belief_of_the_truth); theologian must confirm the shared root does not blur ‘truth’ and ‘righteousness’ for Manipuri readers, per the flag in 08_core_glossary.md.
Gods Righteous Judgment
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুগী অচুম্বা ৱাযেংবা
Transliteration: Tengban Mapugi achumba wayengba
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: any impersonal/passive-voice construction that omits an explicit divine subject, rejected
Original: δίκαιον (κρίμα)
Category: Judgment
New term (provisional), built on inherited অচুম্বা root. CRITICAL: God’s own righteous character as the ground for just repayment (1:5-6). Must be taught as a personal, moral, forensic act of a holy God — never an impersonal karma-mechanism, a live and well-developed category in Manipuri Vaishnava-influenced popular thought. Flag every occurrence for human theologian review; require agent-marked (not passive) grammatical construction wherever Manipuri allows.
Eternal Destruction
Approved rendering: লৌশিং মাংবা
Transliteration: loising mangba
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος
Category: Judgment
New term (provisional). CRITICAL: the final, unending ruin of those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel, ‘away from the presence of the Lord’ (1:9). Must never suggest dissolution into or absorption by an impersonal ultimate reality (moksha-adjacent risk); this is conscious, personal, unending separation from God’s presence, not extinction or merger.
Parousia
Approved rendering: মপু ইবুংগোগী লাকপা
Transliteration: Mapu Ibungogi lakpa
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: a transliterated Greek/Bengali loanword, rejected as unnecessary and opaque
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional), root reused from inherited মপু ইবুংগো (‘Lord’). The bodily, visible, future return of Christ (2:1, 2:8). Must be taught as a single, unique, bodily historical return, categorically distinct from Krishna’s repeated avatar-descents enacted in the Ras Lila tradition; never read as one more cyclical divine appearing.
Day Of The Lord
Approved rendering: মপু ইবুংগোগী নুমিৎ
Transliteration: Mapu Ibungogi numit
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: ἡμέρα τοῦ Κυρίου
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional), root reused from মপু ইবুংগো. CRITICAL: the central subject of 2:1-12; falsely claimed by some to have already arrived (2:2). Must be explicitly distinguished from (a) any Vaishnava eschatological expectation tied to the end of the Kali Yuga cycle and a further avatar-descent, and (b) any cyclical Sanamahi cosmological-renewal framework. This Day is singular, linear, once-for-all, historical.
Man Of Lawlessness
Approved rendering: য়াথাং য়াদবা মীওই
Transliteration: yathang yadaba miwoi
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: any transliterated Greek loan, rejected as doctrinally opaque and forfeiting the Son-of-God structural contrast
Original: ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional), built on inherited য়াথাং (‘law’). CRITICAL and the single highest-collision-risk figure in the curriculum: Manipuri Vaishnava devotional narrative (liturgically enacted through Ras Lila) is structured around a recurring self-exalting demonic adversary (Kamsa vs. Krishna; Hiranyakashipu vs. Narasimha) destroyed by a divine avatar’s appearing. A Meitei reader risks assimilating this figure’s destruction at the Lord’s coming into that familiar mythic-cycle pattern rather than a single, unrepeatable, historical eschatological figure. Must be taught explicitly, not merely translated around; flag every occurrence for human theologian review.
Son Of Destruction
Approved rendering: অমাংবগী মচানুপা
Transliteration: amangbagi machanupa
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional), deliberately structured to parallel and invert inherited তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা (‘Son of God’). A Hebraic idiom for one wholly characterized by, and destined for, ruin (2:3). This counterfeit-son-versus-true-Son contrast must be taught explicitly at every occurrence.
False Signs And Wonders
Approved rendering: লোনবা খুদম অমসুং আংকপা থবক
Transliteration: lonaba khudam amasung angba thabak
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Original: σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ψεύδους
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). Real supernatural phenomena performed by the lawless one, deceptive in origin and purpose — a direct counterfeit of true Spirit-given signs (2:9). Must be sharply distinguished from থাওয়াইগী খুদোল (‘spiritual gifts,’ baseline Medium), from maibi trance-phenomena (শক্তি) during Lai Haraoba, and from miracle-claims embedded in Vaishnava devotional narrative (e.g. Krishna’s childhood miracles celebrated in Ras Lila).
Strong Delusion
Approved rendering: অশোইবগী পাংথোক-থেংনবা
Transliteration: ashoibagi pangthok-thengnaba
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: any passive/impersonal phrasing implying automatic mechanism, rejected
Original: ἐνέργεια πλάνης
Category: Judgment
New term (provisional). CRITICAL: a judicial working of deception God sends upon those who have already rejected the love of the truth (2:11), exceptionally vulnerable to two misreadings: (1) fatalistic collapse into ৱাইফম (impersonal fate, forbidden elsewhere in baseline); (2) bhakti/karma-style automatic cosmic consequence. Must be taught explicitly as God’s righteous, judicial response in kind to a choice already freely made (v.10). Flag every occurrence for human theologian review; require agent-marked construction.
Traditions
Approved rendering: পাউদম তম্বীরকপা
Transliteration: paodam tambirakpa
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Rejected alternatives: a Sanskrit/Bengali loan derived from পরম্পরা (paramparā), explicitly rejected as the specific technical term for Vaishnava guru-to-disciple lineage transmission
Original: παράδοσις
Category: Church
New term (provisional). CRITICAL: authoritative apostolic teaching about Christ and the gospel, transmitted by Paul’s preaching and letters, which believers are told to ‘hold fast to’ (2:15). Risks assimilation into (1) Sanamahi ancestral custom (yumnak-transmitted, centered on Umang Lai worship/Lai Haraoba), and (2) Vaishnava śāstra-based teaching and guru-paramparā transmission surrounding Krishna devotion. Must be taught as fidelity to a closed, fixed, apostolic deposit, not participation in a living, communally-transmitted ritual-custom stream. Flag every occurrence for human theologian review.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: নুংঙাইবগী পাউ
Transliteration: nungngaibagi pao
Doctrine: Gospel
Original: εὐαγγέλιον / ὁ λόγος τοῦ Κυρίου
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package (baseline translation_memory.json); apply exactly, no deviation. In 2 Thessalonians appears at 1:8 (obedience of the gospel) and 3:1 (word of the Lord); must be distinguished from Vaishnava festival ‘good news’ announcements (e.g. Ras Lila calendar events) and, in 3:1, understood as the gospel’s ongoing unhindered spread rather than a single ritual proclamation event.
Faith
Approved rendering: থাজবা
Transliteration: thajaba
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: ভক্তি (bhakti, too specific to Vaishnava devotional framework)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. In 2 Thessalonians, faith is described as ‘growing abundantly’ amid persecution (1:3-4) and its verb-root is used ironically for ‘believing the lie’ (2:11-12); the object of faith must always be specified, with special care that থাজবা never appears bare in the 2:11 context (see believing_the_lie entry below).
Called
Approved rendering: কৌখিবা
Transliteration: koukhiba
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Distinguish from a maibi priestess being ritually ‘called’ during Lai Haraoba trance.
Calling
Approved rendering: কৌবগী থৌদাং
Transliteration: koubagi thoudang
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. In 1:11, Paul prays believers be counted worthy of ‘this calling.‘
Holy
Approved rendering: অসেংবা
Transliteration: asengba
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: শেংবা (ritual-purity sense only)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Reserve শেংবা for physical/ritual cleanliness, distinct from Lai Haraoba or Vaishnava temple purity preparations.
Saints
Approved rendering: অসেংবা মীওই
Transliteration: asengba miwoi
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: গোসাঞি/বৈষ্ণব (Vaishnava renunciant devotee title, never use)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Corporate designation for all believers, not a specialist ascetic class.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: অসেংবা ওইহনবা
Transliteration: asengba oihanba
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἁγιασμὸς πνεύματος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. In 2 Thessalonians 2:13, ‘sanctification by the Spirit’ is the means through which God’s electing choice is worked out; distinct from ritual purification before Lai Haraoba or Vaishnava temple worship.
Glory
Approved rendering: মতিক চাউবা
Transliteration: matik chauba
Doctrine: Deity and Glory of Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Used in 1:9-10, 1:12 (Christ’s glorious coming) and as the root of the new compound obtain_the_glory (2:14). Avoid metaphors/staging language that could conflate with Ras Lila performance splendor evoking Krishna’s divine radiance.
Obedience Of Faith
Approved rendering: থাজবগী ইনবা
Transliteration: thajabagi inba
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: ভক্তিগী সেবা (devotional service, works-based misreading)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Combined with নুংঙাইবগী পাউ (gospel) in 1:8’s ‘obedience of the gospel’; judgment falls on those who both do not know God AND do not obey the gospel — teach as one unified condition, not two separate offenses.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুগী পাংথোক-থেংনবা
Transliteration: Tengban Mapugi pangthok-thengnaba
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: শক্তি (maibi trance-power, avoid)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Used in 1:11 of God’s own power fulfilling every good purpose; MUST be sharply distinguished at every 2:9 occurrence from the new compound satans_power below — the shared root must never appear without explicit attribution in a 2:9 context.
Election
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুগী খনবা
Transliteration: Tengban Mapugi khanba
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: ৱাইফম (fate, never use)
Original: εἵλατο / ἐκλογή
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. In 2:13, God’s choice ‘from the beginning’ is joined explicitly with sanctification, not opposed to it; never ৱাইফম (impersonal fate).
Providence
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং
Transliteration: Tengban Mapugi thourang
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: ৱাইফম (fate, never use)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Relevant background doctrine for 2:6-7’s ‘restrainer… in his own time,’ underscoring that the man of lawlessness’s timetable operates entirely under God’s sovereign, purposive control, never impersonal fate.
Sin
Approved rendering: পাপ
Transliteration: pap
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Kept distinct in this curriculum from the new term unrighteousness (অচুম্বা নত্তবা), which names the specific moral character of 2:10-12’s deceived rather than sin generally; also distinct from ritual offenses addressed through Lai Haraoba purification or Vaishnava prayaschitta.
Persecution
Approved rendering: নেংশিনবা
Transliteration: nengsinba
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: θλῖψις / διωγμός
Category: Perseverance
New term (provisional). Affliction and hostile pursuit endured for the faith (1:4, 1:6). Must be taught as suffering endured specifically for the faith, not as automatic karmic consequence for past wrongdoing (a live interpretive category in Manipuri Vaishnava-influenced popular thought) nor as a ritual ordeal for religious merit.
Endurance
Approved rendering: থেংনবা
Transliteration: thengnaba
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: ὑπομονή
Category: Perseverance
New term (provisional). Steadfast, hope-fueled endurance under trial (1:4; echoed 3:13). Must be distinguished from resignation to ৱাইফম (impersonal fate, forbidden elsewhere in baseline for election/providence); rests on confident hope in certain future vindication, not stoic acceptance.
Vengeance Repayment
Approved rendering: সেয়ৎ পীবা
Transliteration: seyat piba
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἐκδίκησις
Category: Judgment
New term (provisional). God’s judicial repayment-in-kind against persecutors (1:8). Must convey judicial repayment ordered by a personal Judge, not impersonal retribution or karma-style automatic consequence.
Revelation Of Christ
Approved rendering: মপু জিসুগী ফোংদোকপা
Transliteration: Mapu Jisugi phongdokpa
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: ἀποκάλυψις
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional), root reused from inherited prophecy vocabulary (ফোংদোকপা ৱারোল). Christ’s future disclosure ‘from heaven with his mighty angels’ (1:7), the moment judgment is executed. Must be distinguished from a maibi’s oracular ‘revealing’ during Lai Haraoba trance.
Apostasy
Approved rendering: থাজবাদগী হেনগৎপা
Transliteration: thajabadagi hengatpa
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀποστασία
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). A definite, future, large-scale falling-away from the faith that must precede the Day of the Lord (2:3). Must be taught as a specific predicted future event within God’s revealed timetable, not vague general moral decline, to keep the passage’s sequential logic intact.
Lawlessness
Approved rendering: য়াথাং য়াদবা
Transliteration: yathang yadaba
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀνομία
Category: Sin
New term (provisional), built on inherited য়াথাং (‘law’). Active rebellion against God’s authority (2:3, 2:7); must not be softened into the Vaishnava-derived ধর্ম framework (religious duty) the baseline already forbids for ‘law’.
Opposing Self Exalting
Approved rendering: মথন্তা থোকপা অমসুং মশা চাউহনবা
Transliteration: mathanta thokpa amasung masha chauhanba
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀντικείμενος καὶ ὑπεραιρόμενος
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). The lawless one’s defining acts: active opposition to God and self-elevation above every rival object of worship (2:4). Must convey personal, ongoing, deliberate opposition and self-deification, not passive rebellious disposition.
Object Of Worship
Approved rendering: খুরুমবা মখোল
Transliteration: khurumba makhol
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: any term implying a legitimate consecrated deity-image, rejected
Original: σέβασμα
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). Any venerated object, image, or being displaced by the lawless one’s self-exaltation (2:4). Kept deliberately generic and non-technical, given the density of both Vaishnava murti/image veneration and Umang Lai object-veneration in Meitei religious life; the passage’s point is usurpation of any rightful object of reverence, not competition with one named rival.
Temple Of God
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুগী লাইশাং
Transliteration: Tengban Mapugi laishang
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: মন্দির (Vaishnava temple, forbidden per baseline church entry), উমাং লাই থাবা (Umang Lai sacred grove shrine, forbidden per baseline church entry)
Original: ναός
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). The sanctuary where the lawless one enthrones himself, claiming to be God (2:4) — either the Jerusalem Temple or, by extension, God’s dwelling among his people. Must be taught explicitly as neither a Vaishnava mandir nor a Sanamahi sacred-grove shrine, to prevent the passage being heard as seizing a familiar physical shrine rather than total usurpation of what belongs to God alone. Flag for human theologian review given interpretive complexity (literal end-times temple vs. symbolic reading).
Restrainer
Approved rendering: থিংজিনবা
Transliteration: thingjinba
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: identifying the restrainer explicitly with an Umang Lai guardian-spirit function, rejected, identifying the restrainer with a maibi’s ritual gate-keeping role, rejected
Original: τὸ κατέχον / ὁ κατέχων
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). An unnamed restraining influence holding back the lawless one’s full manifestation (2:6-7), deliberately left agent-neutral, matching the Greek’s own ambiguity. Whatever else it denotes, it operates entirely under God’s sovereign control per v.6’s ‘his own time.‘
Mystery Of Lawlessness
Approved rendering: য়াথাং য়াদবগী লোৎলবা ৱারী
Transliteration: yathang yadabagi lotlaba wari
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: an isolated transliterated ‘mysterion’ loanword, rejected as carrying no inherited meaning
Original: μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). Lawlessness already secretly, presently active though not yet unveiled in full personified form (2:7). No baseline ‘mystery’ term yet exists in the Romans package; coordinate with any future Romans 11:25-style entries for consistency.
Appearing
Approved rendering: মপু ইবুংগোগী লাকপগী ফোংদোকপা
Transliteration: Mapu Ibungogi lakpagi phongdokpa
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: ἐπιφάνεια
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional), root reused from inherited prophecy vocabulary combined with the parousia compound. Christ’s manifestation, stacked with ‘parousia’ in 2:8 for emphasis. Must be taught as unique and singular, never rendered with language resembling repeated avatar-manifestation.
Satans Power
Approved rendering: সাতানগী পাংথোক-থেংনবা
Transliteration: Satan-gi pangthok-thengnaba
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: bare তেংবাং মপুগী পাংথোক-থেংনবা compound without Satanic qualifier, explicitly rejected in this context
Original: κατ’ ἐνέργειαν τοῦ Σατανᾶ
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional), built on inherited God’s-power compound with an explicit Satanic qualifier. The lawless one’s derivative, satanically-sourced power (2:9); this root must NEVER appear in a 2 Thessalonians 2 context without clear Satanic attribution, to prevent confusion with the Romans 1:16-style compound for God’s own saving power (also reused at 1:11 in this letter). Flag every occurrence for theologian review; hard validation rule required (see 12_ai_translation_requirements.md).
Deceit
Approved rendering: অশোইবা
Transliteration: ashoiba
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀπάτη
Category: Sin
New term (provisional). Fraud/trickery, the operational method of the lawless one’s whole deceptive operation against those perishing (2:10). Must convey deliberate fraud aimed at those already on a path to destruction, not innocent misunderstanding.
Perishing
Approved rendering: মাংবা
Transliteration: mangba
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἀπολλύμενοι
Category: Judgment
New term (provisional). Those on the ongoing path to final destruction/ruin, the objects of the lawless one’s deception (2:10). Must never be softened into a this-worldly ‘losing one’s way’ sense, nor associated with cyclical rebirth.
Love Of The Truth
Approved rendering: অচুম্বাগী নুংশিবা
Transliteration: achumbagi nungshiba
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: ἀγάπη τῆς ἀληθείας
Category: Faith
New term (provisional), root reused from অচুম্বা and নুংশিবা. Genuine love for, and reception of, revealed truth, whose rejection opens the door to deception (2:10). Positive counterpart to ‘believing the lie’; must be distinguished from bhakti’s devotional love directed toward Krishna.
Believing The Lie
Approved rendering: ৱাফমদা থাজবা
Transliteration: wafamda thajaba
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: থাজবা alone with the object dropped, explicitly rejected
Original: πιστεύσαντες τῷ ψεύδει
Category: Sin
New term (provisional), root reused from inherited থাজবা with explicit object retained. The deliberately ironic use of the ordinary faith-verb for belief placed in a lie (2:11). The object ‘the lie’ (ৱাফম) must NEVER be dropped from the clause, or the verb alone reads as ordinary saving faith. Hard validation rule required (see 12_ai_translation_requirements.md).
Judged Condemned
Approved rendering: ৱাযেংহনবা
Transliteration: wayenghanba
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: κριθῶσιν
Category: Judgment
New term (provisional), root reused, feeding into the doctrine-level term gods_righteous_judgment. Final judicial condemnation for unbelief and love of unrighteousness (2:12).
Belief Of The Truth
Approved rendering: থাজবা অচুম্বাদা
Transliteration: thajaba achumbada
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: πίστις ἀληθείας
Category: Faith
New term (provisional), root reused. Genuine, saving trust that has revealed truth as its object (2:13), the deliberate positive counterpart to ‘believing the lie’ (2:11-12). Flag for theologian review as the structural counterpart to the core passage’s climactic warning; must remain clearly distinguishable in teaching from believing_the_lie.
Truth
Approved rendering: অচুম্বা
Transliteration: achumba
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Faith
New term (provisional), sharing a root morpheme with inherited অচুম্বা চৎনবিরাক (‘righteousness’) and অচুম্বা ওইহনবা (‘justification’). That which is real and reliable, the saving content of the gospel as opposed to ‘the lie’ (2:10, 2:13). Flag explicitly for theologian confirmation that this shared root does not blur ‘truth’ and ‘righteousness’ into a single undifferentiated concept for Manipuri readers.
Obtain The Glory
Approved rendering: মতিক চাউবা ফংবা
Transliteration: matik chauba phangba
Doctrine: Deity and Glory of Christ
Original: περιποίησιν δόξης
Category: God
New term (provisional), built on inherited মতিক চাউবা (‘glory’). Believers’ called destiny: to gain/possess Christ’s own glory as a future inheritance (2:14).
Word Of The Lord
Approved rendering: মপুগী ৱারী
Transliteration: Mapugi wari
Doctrine: Gospel
Original: ὁ λόγος τοῦ Κυρίου
Category: Salvation
New term (provisional), combined with inherited গospel term. The gospel message prayed for to ‘run and be glorified’ unhindered (3:1); must be distinguished from a single ritual proclamation event.
Obedience Of The Gospel
Approved rendering: থাজবগী ইনবা (নুংঙাইবগী পাউগা লোয়ননা)
Transliteration: thajabagi inba (nungngaibagi paoga loyanna)
Doctrine: Gospel
Original: ὑπακούω τῷ εὑαγγελίῳ
Category: Faith
Composite of two inherited baseline terms (obedience_of_faith + gospel), recorded here as its own entry because 2 Thessalonians 1:8 pairs them into a single compound failure-condition (‘who do not know God and do not obey the gospel’); teach as one unified condition, not two separate offenses.
Medium Risk Terms
Peace
Approved rendering: ইনগবা
Transliteration: ingba
Doctrine: Peace with God
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Used in the letter’s opening and closing (1:2, 3:16); in 3:16 ‘the Lord of peace himself’ grants peace amid the disorderly conduct addressed in chapter 3. Keep distinct from meditative bhakti calm or ritual harmony with the Umang Lai.
Intercession
Approved rendering: মখোয়গী মফমদা হায়জবা
Transliteration: makhoigi mafamda haijaba
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Relevant to 3:1-2’s prayer request for the gospel’s spread and for deliverance from wicked men; must be kept distinct from petitions traditionally carried to the Umang Lai through a maibi or maiba.
Church
Approved rendering: কলিসিয়া
Transliteration: kalisiya
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: মন্দির (Vaishnava temple, never use), উমাং লাই থাবা (Umang Lai sacred grove, never use)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Relevant to the letter’s addressees (‘the church of the Thessalonians,’ 1:1) and background for the fenced-off temple_of_god compound below (2:4), which must remain distinct from both forbidden alternatives.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: তেংবাং মপুগী লৈপাক
Transliteration: Tengban Mapugi leipak
Doctrine: Kingdom of God
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Used in 1:5: suffering now is evidence believers ‘will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God’; distinguish from the historic Meitei kingship tradition’s royal-divine-lineage framing (descent from Pakhangba).
Law
Approved rendering: য়াথাং
Transliteration: yathang
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy / Law
Rejected alternatives: ধর্ম (avoid Hindu-derived religious-duty sense)
Inherited from Romans package; apply exactly. Root reused extensively in this curriculum’s new man_of_lawlessness and lawlessness compounds; never use ধর্ম, given its Vaishnava-Vaishnavization-derived religious-duty association.
Christian Love
Approved rendering: নুংশিবা
Transliteration: nungshiba
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: ভক্তি-style devotional love toward Krishna, avoid as an interpretive frame though not a lexical substitution
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Faith
New term (provisional). Standard Meitei word for love; used of believers’ mutual love ‘abounding’ as evidence of genuine faith (1:3) and reused as the root of love_of_the_truth (2:10). Must be explicitly distinguished in teaching from bhakti-love, the devotee’s loving devotion toward Krishna central to Manipuri Vaishnava practice.
Flame Of Fire
Approved rendering: মৈ চমকপা
Transliteration: mei chamkaba
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: πυρὶ φλογός
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). Judgment-fire imagery accompanying Christ’s revealing (1:7-8). Low collision risk as a natural-image term, but avoid staging language that could evoke Ras Lila’s own ceremonial use of fire/light imagery to evoke divine radiance.
Gathering Together
Approved rendering: পুন্না খোম্জিনবা
Transliteration: punna khomjinba
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: ἐπισυναγωγή
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). The church’s being gathered to Christ at his return (2:1). Must remain tied to the parousia event, never allowed to stand alone as a generic ‘gathering’ that could be heard as Ras Lila festival-crowd or Lai Haraoba community-assembly language.
Shaken In Mind
Approved rendering: নিংথিনা হোংহনবা
Transliteration: ningthina honghanba
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: σαλευθῆναι
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). Being destabilized/thrown into confusion by a false claim about the Day (2:2). Descriptive; low collision risk, mainly risk of imprecision.
Abolish Nullify
Approved rendering: মাংহনবা
Transliteration: manghanba
Doctrine: Man of Lawlessness
Original: καταργήσει / ἀνελεῖ
Category: Eschatology
New term (provisional). Christ’s effortless, verbal destruction of the lawless one at his appearing, ‘by the breath of his mouth’ (2:8). Must convey effortless divine authority, not a contest of powers, to avoid the passage being reheard as an avatar-versus-demon combat narrative.
Unrighteousness
Approved rendering: অচুম্বা নত্তবা
Transliteration: achumba nattaba
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἀδικία
Category: Sin
New term (provisional), built on inherited অচুম্বা root, distinct from inherited পাপ (‘sin,’ baseline High). Names the moral character of the deceived (2:10, 2:12). Theologian should confirm whether Manipuri learners will readily track this distinction from পাপ or whether a simplifying teaching note is preferable.
Delighting In Unrighteousness
Approved rendering: অচুম্বা নত্তবদা নুংঙাইবা
Transliteration: achumba nattabada nungngaiba
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: εὐδοκήσαντες τῇ ἀδικίᾳ
Category: Sin

Establish Strengthen
Approved rendering: চেৎহনবা
Transliteration: chetnhanba
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: στηρίξαι
Category: Sanctification
New term (provisional). God’s own strengthening work confirming believers ‘in every good word and work’ (2:17).
Good Hope
Approved rendering: অফবা আশা
Transliteration: aphaba asha
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: ἐλπὶς ἀγαθή
Category: Faith
New term (provisional). The believer’s settled, grace-grounded confidence in future good (2:16), deliberately contrasted with the false, destabilizing ‘hope’ implied by 2:2’s premature Day-of-the-Lord claim.
Hope
Approved rendering: আশা
Transliteration: asha
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
New term (provisional), standalone root underlying good_hope. Must be distinguished from worldly optimism or fatalistic hope.
Faithful
Approved rendering: থাজবা য়াবা
Transliteration: thajaba yaba

Transliteration: phattaba
Doctrine: Protection from the Evil One
Rejected alternatives: any specific named Sanamahi malevolent spirit-figure, explicitly rejected
Original: ὁ πονηρός
Category: Sin

Apostolic Command
Approved rendering: য়াথাং পীবা
Transliteration: yathang piba
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: παραγγέλλομεν
Category: Church
New term (provisional), built on inherited য়াথাং (‘law’) root. Apostolic authoritative instruction directing church practice (3:4, 3:6, 3:10, 3:12). Distinguish in teaching from the Mosaic Law doctrine (baseline ‘law’ entry) and from the fixed doctrinal ‘traditions’ of 2:15, of which this is a related but distinct behavioral-command category.
Low Risk Terms

Doctrine: Diligence and Church Discipline
Original: ἀτάκτως
Category: Church
New term (provisional). Undisciplined, idle, out-of-step conduct addressed as a specific pastoral problem (3:6, 3:11), likely tied to the misapplied belief that the Day of the Lord had already come. No significant cultural-collision risk.
Work Labor
Approved rendering: থবক তৌবা
Transliteration: thabak touba
Doctrine: Diligence and Church Discipline
Original: ἐργαζόμενοι
Category: Church
