Cross-Reference Analysis

09 Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis — 2 Peter

Method and Scope

This document maps every Old Testament quotation and allusion, every messianic reference, every typological pattern, and every New Testament parallel (with particular attention to Romans, and secondarily to the other curricula already or eventually covered under this Language Package — Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, 1–2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1–2 Thessalonians, 1–2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon) occurring anywhere across all three chapters of 2 Peter. Coverage is exhaustive by chapter; no chapter is skipped.

Citation format: All Scripture references are normalized to Book Chapter:Verse (e.g., Genesis 15:6, Galatians 2:16, Romans 8:28), matching the citation convention already fixed in the baseline 12_ai_translation_requirements.md (Arabic numerals, standard book names, no Bengali numerals).

Translation sensitivity columns flag where a rendering choice must be held identical to (or deliberately distinguished from) a rendering already fixed in the Romans baseline translation_memory.json, per the Theological Consistency Rules in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.

Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations and Parallel Terms

These rules bind Phase 2 translation whenever a 2 Peter segment overlaps with a Romans (or other curriculum) segment already translated, or will be translated in a future curriculum pass using this same Language Package.

  1. Psalm 90:4 ↔ 2 Peter 3:8 (“a thousand years as one day”): render with the same numeral/time-word pattern each time this psalm is quoted anywhere in the Language Package; do not introduce a new numeral idiom for 2 Peter’s citation.
  2. Genesis 1:6-9 / Psalm 33:6 ↔ 2 Peter 3:5: “by the word of God” must reuse the same construction used for creation-by-command language if/when Genesis 1 or John 1:1-3 is translated under this package; do not introduce a separate “divine command” vocabulary specific to 2 Peter.
  3. Isaiah 65:17 / 66:22 ↔ 2 Peter 3:13 ↔ Revelation 21:1: “new heavens and new earth” (অনৌবা স্বর্গ অমসুং অনৌবা লৈবাক, anouba swarga amasung anouba leibak) is now fixed for this Language Package; any future Isaiah or Revelation curriculum pass MUST reuse this exact compound, not re-derive it.
  4. Proverbs 26:11 ↔ 2 Peter 2:22: render literally (dog/vomit, sow/mire); do not substitute a Manipuri idiom, since the literal image already carries adequate force in the target culture (dogs and pigs already connote baseness) and literal rendering preserves canonical intertextual traceability for readers who study Proverbs later.
  5. Romans 2:4 ↔ 2 Peter 3:9 (God’s patience aimed at repentance): both must use খুদোংচাবা (khudongchaba) for the patience/forbearance concept; Romans 2:4 already exists outside the current baseline glossary (not previously rendered), so this 2 Peter pass fixes খুদোংচাবা as the standing term — future Romans 2 retranslation must adopt it, not invent an alternative.
  6. Romans 6:16-22 ↔ 2 Peter 2:19 (“slaves of sin/corruption” vs. “slaves of righteousness”): reuse লান্মী (lanmi, “slave/servant”) as the base noun in both passages; 2 Peter’s “slaves of corruption” (লান্মীগী মংহনবা) must stay morphologically parallel to any future Romans 6 rendering of “slaves of righteousness,” so the irony Paul and Peter both intend (that false freedom is real slavery) remains visible in Manipuri.
  7. Romans 8:19-23 ↔ 2 Peter 3:13 (creation’s future liberation / new heavens and earth): both passages describe the same eschatological hope; if Romans 8:19-23 is rendered with a “liberation of creation” phrase in a future pass, it must use the same root as অহানবা (ahanba, salvation/deliverance) already fixed for personal salvation, applied here to creation, to keep the parallel visible in Manipuri as it is in Greek.
  8. Romans 11:36 / Romans 16:27 ↔ 2 Peter 3:18 (closing doxology, “to him be glory forever/to the day of eternity”): use the same doxological formula pattern — মতিক চাউবা (matik chauba, glory) + a fixed eternity-marker (proposed: লোমননবা, lomananaba) — consistently across both books’ closing doxologies.
  9. 2 Timothy 3:16 ↔ 2 Peter 1:20-21 / 3:16 (“God-breathed,” “carried along by the Holy Spirit,” “the other Scriptures”): both passages are the two central NT inspiration-of-Scripture texts. Any future 2 Timothy pass must use অসেংবা মপুং ৱারি (asengba mapung wari, Scripture) exactly as fixed here, and should render “God-breathed” (θεόπνευστος) compatibly with থাওয়াই অসেংবনা পুরকপা (carried along by the Holy Spirit) so a Manipuri reader recognizes these as the same doctrine taught from two apostolic voices.
  10. Matthew 17:1-5 / Mark 9:2-8 / Luke 9:28-36 ↔ 2 Peter 1:16-18 (Transfiguration): the divine-voice declaration “This is my Son, my Beloved” must be rendered identically wherever it recurs — তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা (Son of God) + নুংশিবা (beloved) — across all Gospel accounts and 2 Peter’s retelling, since 2 Peter 1:17 is Peter’s own eyewitness citation of that same event.
  11. 1 Thessalonians 5:2 ↔ Matthew 24:43 ↔ 2 Peter 3:10 (“Day of the Lord will come like a thief”): fix হুরানবা (huranaba, thief) and মপু ইবুংগোগী নুমিত (Mapu Ibungogi numit, Day of the Lord) identically across all three occurrences when each book is eventually translated.
  12. Jude 4-19 ↔ 2 Peter 2 (extensive near-verbal parallel, not part of this Language Package’s listed curricula but noted for translator awareness): where 2 Peter and Jude share near-identical wording (false teachers, angels who sinned, Sodom and Gomorrah, Balaam, dogs/mire-type imagery), the Manipuri renderings fixed in this pass should be treated as the default starting point if Jude is added to a future curriculum, to preserve the two letters’ evident literary relationship for Manipuri readers.

PART A — Chapter 1 Cross-References

2 Peter PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
2 Peter 1:1Impartial, equal-value faith; righteousness as giftPeter, “those who have obtained a faith of equal standing”Romans 3:22 (righteousness through faith for all who believe, no distinction); Romans 10:12 (no distinction between Jew and Greek)Reuse অচুম্বা চৎনবিরাক (righteousness) and থাজবা (faith) exactly per baseline; teach as the same no-distinction gift Paul describes in Romans, not a bhakti-graded devotional standing.
2 Peter 1:2Grace and peace multiplied through knowledgeRomans 1:7 (Paul’s greeting formula, “grace and peace”); 1 Peter 1:2 (same author’s parallel greeting)Reuse মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং (grace) and ইনগবা (peace) exactly; both letters’ openings must read identically in Manipuri.
2 Peter 1:3-4Divine power grants life/godliness; partakers of divine natureGenesis 1:26-27 (mankind made in God’s image — background for “partaking” language, NOT identity/fusion); 2 Corinthians 3:18 (believers transformed into Christ’s likeness); 1 John 3:2 (we shall be like him)CRITICAL: তেংবাং মপুগী মহৈ (divine nature) must be taught as moral/relational participation through the Spirit’s sanctifying work, paralleling 2 Corinthians 3:18’s “glory to glory” transformation — never ontological fusion or Vaishnava sāyujya-style merging. Mandatory theologian review.
2 Peter 1:5-7Virtue chain: faith → virtue → knowledge → self-control → steadfastness → godliness → brotherly affection → loveGalatians 5:22-23 (fruit of the Spirit — parallel virtue-list pattern); James 1:2-4 (steadfastness produces completed character)Keep each link’s Manipuri term distinct and consistent with any future Galatians 5 rendering of the fruit of the Spirit, since both lists describe Spirit-produced (not self-produced) character.
2 Peter 1:10Confirm your calling and electionRomans 8:28-30 (calling, predestination, glorification chain); Romans 9:11 (election not by works)Reuse কৌখিবা/কৌবগী থৌদাং (called/calling) and তেংবাং মপুগী খনবা (election) exactly per baseline; this is the same effectual-calling doctrine taught in Romans 8-9, applied here as grounds for assurance-driven diligence, not works-earned security.
2 Peter 1:11Eternal kingdomDaniel 7:14, 27 (the everlasting kingdom given to the Son of Man); Romans 14:17 (the kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy)Reuse তেংবাং মপুগী লৈপাক (kingdom of God) root exactly; add “eternal” modifier consistently if Daniel is later translated under this package.
2 Peter 1:12-15Peter’s approaching death, framed as “putting off the tent,” “my exodus”Peter, JesusJohn 21:18-19 (Jesus foretells the manner of Peter’s death); Luke 9:31 (the Transfiguration itself uses the SAME Greek word exodos for Jesus’ own coming death)Important typological link: the term ἔξοδος (exodos) used for Peter’s own death in 1:15 is the identical word Luke uses for Christ’s death at the Transfiguration (Luke 9:31), the very event 2 Peter 1:16-18 recalls. Render থোকখিবা (thokkhiba) consistently in both contexts if Luke 9 is later translated, to preserve this literary echo.
2 Peter 1:16Eyewitness testimony vs. “cleverly devised myths”; power and coming (parousia)Peter, James, John (implied, per Synoptic accounts)Matthew 16:27-28 / Mark 9:1 (Jesus’ promise, immediately preceding the Transfiguration in all three Synoptics, that some would see the kingdom’s power before death); 1 Timothy 1:4, 4:7; 2 Timothy 4:4 (Paul’s parallel warnings against myths)Reuse তেংবাং মপুগী পাংথোক-থেংনবা (power of God) exactly; ক্রিস্তোগী হন্না লাকপা (parousia) must be taught, per baseline caution, as unique/unrepeatable against the live Vaishnava Kalki-avatar expectation. Mandatory theologian review.
2 Peter 1:17Divine voice: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”God the Father, JesusDirect echo/quotation-level allusion: Psalm 2:7 (“You are my Son”); Isaiah 42:1 (LXX, “my chosen, in whom my soul delights” — Servant Song background); Direct NT parallel: Matthew 3:17 and Matthew 17:5, Mark 1:11 and 9:7, Luke 3:22 and 9:35 (Baptism and Transfiguration divine-voice sayings)CRITICAL, messianic and Sonship-of-Christ doctrine. This is Peter’s own eyewitness citation of a saying that must be rendered IDENTICALLY wherever the Gospels record it in this Language Package, per Consistency Rule 10 above. Use তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা (Son of God) and নুংশিবা (beloved) exactly.
2 Peter 1:18”The holy mountain”Peter, James, John, Jesus, Moses/Elijah (per Synoptic accounts, not named in 2 Peter itself)Exodus 24:15-18 (Sinai theophany, cloud and glory on the mountain); Psalm 2:6 (“my king on Zion, my holy hill”) — typological pattern of God’s glory disclosed on a set-apart mountainঅসেংবা চিং (holy mountain) — must be distinguished in teaching notes from an Umang Lai sacred grove/hill shrine; this mountain’s holiness is a one-time historical theophany, not a permanently indwelt cultic site.
2 Peter 1:19Prophetic word as lamp; “morning star” rises in the heartPsalm 119:105 (your word is a lamp to my feet); Proverbs 6:23 (the commandment is a lamp); messianic typology: Numbers 24:17 (“a star shall come out of Jacob” — Balaam’s own prophecy, LXX ἀστήρ/related light imagery); Malachi 4:2 (the sun of righteousness shall rise); direct NT parallel: Revelation 22:16 (Jesus: “I am… the bright morning star”)Numbers 24:17 is notable: the same Balaam who later appears as a corrupted false prophet in 2 Peter 2:15-16 nonetheless spoke a genuine messianic prophecy. This irony may be noted in study materials but the morning-star rendering (নুমিদাংগী থবি) itself must avoid any link to the Vaishnava astrological Venus/Shukra deity, per baseline concern.
2 Peter 1:20-21Prophecy’s divine origin; “carried along by the Holy Spirit”Holy prophets (unnamed)Jeremiah 1:9 (God puts his words in the prophet’s mouth); Isaiah 6:8-9; direct NT parallel: 2 Timothy 3:16 (“all Scripture is God-breathed”); Hebrews 1:1 (“God spoke by the prophets”)CRITICAL, Reliability/Inspiration of Scripture doctrine. থাওয়াই অসেংবনা পুরকপা (carried along by the Holy Spirit) and অসেংবা মপুং ৱারি (Scripture) must be reused identically for 2 Timothy 3:16 when that book is translated, per Consistency Rule 9. Distinguish sharply from maibi trance-possession, per baseline and Semantic Analysis (07). Mandatory theologian review.

PART B — Chapter 2 Cross-References

2 Peter PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
2 Peter 2:1False prophets among the people; false teachers to comeDeuteronomy 13:1-5 and 18:20-22 (test for a true/false prophet); Jeremiah 23:16-32 (denunciation of false prophets); Matthew 7:15 (false prophets in sheep’s clothing); Jude 4 (near-verbatim NT parallel)মীমাংনবা তক্লিবা মীওই (false teachers) — teach as an INTERNAL-church warning (arising “among you,” 2:1), not blanket polemic against Manipur’s other live religious traditions, per baseline mission_to_nations sensitivity and Semantic Analysis (07).
2 Peter 2:3Their condemnation “has not been sleeping”Deuteronomy 32:35 (“their doom comes… in due time”); Habakkuk 2:3 (the appointed time will not delay)Reinforces Day of the Lord doctrine: judgment is certain though its timing is God’s own; avoid any impersonal-fate framing.
2 Peter 2:4Angels who sinned, cast into gloomy pits (Tartarus)Fallen angelsGenesis 6:1-4 (background, disputed reference to “sons of God”); Isaiah 24:21-22 (the host of heaven punished); direct NT parallel: Jude 6 (near-identical wording); Revelation 20:1-3 (binding/imprisonment of Satan)CRITICAL: অমাংবা মফমদা থমখিবা (custody in a place of darkness) must NOT be equated with Hindu Naraka or a Sanamahi ancestral punishment-realm, per Semantic Analysis (07). Do not import the proper name “Tartarus.” Mandatory theologian review.
2 Peter 2:5The flood; Noah preservedNoahGenesis 6:5-8:22 (the Flood narrative in full); direct intra-corpus parallel: 1 Peter 3:20 (same author’s other letter, same Flood/Noah reference); Matthew 24:37-39 (Jesus uses Noah’s flood as an end-times type); Hebrews 11:7 (Noah’s faith)Typological pattern established here (judgment-with-preservation of the righteous) is the controlling pattern for the entire chapter (Noah, Lot) and recurs at the Day of the Lord in ch. 3. Consistent rendering of ইশিং চৎলবা (flood) recommended if Genesis or 1 Peter is later added to this package.
2 Peter 2:6-7Sodom and Gomorrah destroyed; Lot preservedLotGenesis 19:1-29 (destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot’s rescue); Deuteronomy 29:23; Isaiah 1:9; direct NT parallel: Jude 7; Luke 17:28-32 (Jesus’ end-times reference, including “remember Lot’s wife”)Second instance of the judgment-with-preservation typological pattern; consistent rendering with Luke 17 recommended for future curriculum passes.
2 Peter 2:9The Lord rescues the godly, keeps the unrighteous for judgmentPsalm 34:15-17 (the LORD’s eyes on the righteous, judgment on evildoers)Summarizes the typological pattern of 2:4-8: God distinguishes and judges precisely, not automatically or impersonally.
2 Peter 2:15-16Balaam, the donkey that spokeBalaamNumbers 22:21-35 (Balaam’s donkey rebukes him); Numbers 31:16; Deuteronomy 23:4-5; direct NT parallel: Jude 11; Revelation 2:14 (Balaam’s teaching invoked against the church at Pergamum)Third historical exemplar of a corrupted religious specialist; contrast with Numbers 24:17’s genuine messianic oracle spoken by the same figure (see 1:19 above) may be noted pastorally.
2 Peter 2:19”Slaves of corruption” while promising freedomJohn 8:34 (“everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin”); direct Romans parallel: Romans 6:16-22 (slaves of sin vs. slaves of righteousness); Galatians 5:13 (freedom not as an opportunity for the flesh)Reuse লান্মী (slave) root per Consistency Rule 6; this is the SAME slavery-to-sin doctrine Paul teaches in Romans 6, applied here to false teachers’ self-condemning irony.
2 Peter 2:20-22Worse to know and turn back than never to have knownHebrews 6:4-6, Hebrews 10:26-29 (apostasy warning passages); direct OT quotation: Proverbs 26:11 (“a dog returns to its own vomit”)Render Proverbs 26:11 literally per Consistency Rule 4; pair the apostasy warning with Hebrews 6/10 for future cross-curriculum consistency if those books are added.

PART C — Chapter 3 Cross-References

2 Peter PassageThemeRelated Character(s)OT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
2 Peter 3:2Predictions of the holy prophets; the commandment of the Lord through the apostlesEphesians 2:20 (church built on the foundation of apostles and prophets) — direct NT parallel; direct NT parallel: Jude 17-18Ties apostolic teaching to prophetic Scripture as a single authoritative body — reinforces Reliability/Inspiration of Scripture doctrine.
2 Peter 3:3-4Scoffers deny the promised coming: “all things continue as they were”Scoffersdirect NT parallel: Jude 18 (“in the last time there will be scoffers”); Isaiah 5:19; Jeremiah 17:15; Malachi 2:17কাউথোকপা মীওই (scoffers) — the scoffers’ argument from apparent natural continuity must be answered by Scripture’s own witness (creation by God’s word, the Flood), not by philosophical argument alone; teach as the letter’s own rebuttal strategy in 3:5-7.
2 Peter 3:5-6Heavens/earth formed by God’s word; world delugedDirect echo: Genesis 1:6-9 (creation by divine word); Psalm 33:6 (“by the word of the LORD the heavens were made” — direct OT parallel); direct NT parallel: Hebrews 11:3 (“the universe was created by the word of God”)Reuse the same “by the word of God” construction if Genesis 1 or Hebrews 11 is later translated, per Consistency Rule 2.
2 Peter 3:7Present heavens/earth stored up for fire, for judgmentIsaiah 66:15-16 (the LORD comes with fire in judgment); Zephaniah 1:18; Malachi 4:1; Nahum 1:6Day of the Lord and Final Judgment doctrine; must be taught as a single historical event, not a phase of a repeating Hindu cosmological pralaya cycle, per baseline and Semantic Analysis (07).
2 Peter 3:8”With the Lord one day is as a thousand years”Direct OT quotation: Psalm 90:4Fix the numeral/time-word pattern per Consistency Rule 1; God’s relationship to time is personal and purposive, not the impersonal vast-age unfolding of Hindu Yuga cosmology.
2 Peter 3:9God’s patience aims at repentance, “not wishing that any should perish”Ezekiel 18:23, 33:11 (“I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked”); 1 Timothy 2:4 (God desires all to be saved); John 3:16; direct Romans parallel: Romans 2:4 (“God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance”)HIGH, Patience of God’s Timing doctrine. খুদোংচাবা (patience) fixed per Consistency Rule 5; retain unqualified universal scope (“any,” “all”) per baseline universality-preservation rule, without softening even given Manipur’s inter-community sensitivities.
2 Peter 3:10Day of the Lord comes like a thief; heavens pass with a roar; elements burned; earth exposeddirect NT parallels: Matthew 24:43, Luke 12:39, 1 Thessalonians 5:2 (“the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night” — near-verbatim), Revelation 3:3, 16:15; OT Day-of-the-LORD background: Joel 2:1, Amos 5:18-20, Zephaniah 1:14-15, Isaiah 13:6, 9CRITICAL. Fix হুরানবা (thief) and মপু ইবুংগোগী নুমিত (Day of the Lord) identically with 1 Thessalonians 5:2 and Matthew 24:43 per Consistency Rule 11, since this is the letter’s climactic certainty-of-judgment statement.
2 Peter 3:12-13New heavens and new earth, in which righteousness dwellsDirect OT source: Isaiah 65:17, Isaiah 66:22; direct NT parallel: Revelation 21:1; direct Romans parallel: Romans 8:19-23 (creation’s future liberation from bondage to decay); Isaiah 32:17 (righteousness and peace)CRITICAL. অনৌবা স্বর্গ অমসুং অনৌবা লৈবাক fixed per Consistency Rule 3 and 7; must be taught as a single final consummation, not a phase in the endless Hindu Yuga/pralaya cycle.
2 Peter 3:15”Our beloved brother Paul… wrote to you… according to the wisdom given him”PaulDirect reference to the Pauline corpus, which in this Language Package includes Romans itself, as well as Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1–2 Thessalonians, 1–2 Timothy, Titus, and PhilemonMAJOR cross-curriculum note: 2 Peter 3:15-16 explicitly places Paul’s letters — including Romans, the anchor curriculum of this Language Package — on the same authoritative footing as OT Scripture. Any future teaching material connecting 2 Peter to Romans should make this explicit self-reference visible to learners.
2 Peter 3:16”Some things hard to understand… twisted… as they do the other Scriptures”Paul, “the ignorant and unstable”Direct canon-consciousness statement, extending γραφή (Scripture) to apostolic letters; direct NT parallel: 2 Timothy 3:16CRITICAL, Reliability/Inspiration of Scripture doctrine. অসেংবা মপুং ৱারি (Scripture) must be used for BOTH the OT prophetic writings (1:20-21) and Paul’s letters (3:16) — the term’s scope must visibly widen in Manipuri exactly as it does in Greek, or the doctrinal point (apostolic writings = Scripture) is lost.
2 Peter 3:17Warning against being carried away by “the error of lawless people”Galatians 5:1 (stand firm in freedom); Ephesians 4:14 (not tossed by every wind of doctrine)False Teachers doctrine; pairs with ch. 2’s extensive false-teacher polemic.
2 Peter 3:18”Grow in grace and knowledge… to him be glory… to the day of eternity”Jesus Christ2 Corinthians 3:18 (glory to glory transformation); Ephesians 3:21 (glory in the church forever); direct Romans parallel: Romans 11:36 and Romans 16:27 (closing doxologies, “to him be glory forever”)Fix the doxological formula per Consistency Rule 8; this closing doxology should read as recognizably the same genre as Romans’ closing doxologies to Manipuri readers moving between the two curricula.

PART D — Messianic References and Typology Summary

Type/Pattern2 Peter OccurrenceOT RootFulfillment/NT DevelopmentManipuri Sensitivity
Sonship declared by divine voice1:17Psalm 2:7; Isaiah 42:1Matthew 3:17/17:5; Mark 1:11/9:7; Luke 3:22/9:35Sonship-of-Christ (Critical); render identically across all Gospel/2 Peter occurrences.
Theophany on a holy mountain1:18Exodus 24:15-18 (Sinai); Psalm 2:6 (Zion)Matthew 17:1-2 and parallels (Mount of Transfiguration)Distinguish from Umang Lai sacred groves; one-time historical theophany, not a permanent cultic site.
Star/light out of Jacob1:19 (morning star)Numbers 24:17 (Balaam’s oracle); Malachi 4:2Revelation 22:16 (Christ as morning star)Keep strictly Christ-centered; avoid Venus/Shukra astrological association.
Judgment-with-preservation of the righteous2:5 (Noah), 2:6-7 (Lot)Genesis 6-8; Genesis 19Matthew 24:37-39; Luke 17:26-32; 1 Peter 3:20Establishes the pattern for the Day of the Lord in ch. 3: God judges precisely and personally, always preserving a righteous remnant.
Creation by the word of God3:5Genesis 1:6-9; Psalm 33:6Hebrews 11:3; John 1:1-3Same creative-word category applies to the promised re-creation (3:13), not a repeating cosmic cycle.
New heavens and new earth3:13Isaiah 65:17; 66:22Revelation 21:1Single, final, non-repeating consummation — direct contrast with Hindu Yuga/pralaya cyclical cosmology.
Day of the LORD3:10Joel 2:1; Amos 5:18-20; Zephaniah 1:14-15; Isaiah 13:6, 9Matthew 24:43; 1 Thessalonians 5:2; Revelation 16:15Fixed term মপু ইবুংগোগী নুমিত; single unrepeatable day, not a karmic or cyclical event.
Christ’s parousia (second, bodily return)1:16, 3:4, 3:10, 3:12(typological anticipation only; no direct OT term)Matthew 24:30; Mark 13:26; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17CRITICAL: unique, unrepeatable return of the same incarnate Son — direct contrast with the live Vaishnava doctrine of the still-awaited Kalki avatar.

Coverage Confirmation

  • 2 Peter 1 (vv. 1-15 and core passage 16-21): fully cross-referenced — OT quotations/allusions (Psalm 2:7, Isaiah 42:1, Exodus 24, Numbers 24:17, Psalm 119:105/Proverbs 6:23, Jeremiah 1:9, Genesis 1:26-27), NT parallels (Synoptic Transfiguration/Baptism accounts, Romans 3:22/8:28-30/9:11/14:17, 2 Corinthians 3:18, 1 John 3:2, John 21:18-19, Luke 9:31, 2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 1:1, 1 Timothy/2 Timothy myth warnings).
  • 2 Peter 2: fully cross-referenced — OT precedents (Genesis 6, 19, 22; Numbers 22, 24, 31; Deuteronomy 13, 18, 23, 29, 32; Proverbs 26:11; Isaiah 1:9, 24:21-22; Habakkuk 2:3), NT parallels (Jude 4-19 throughout, Matthew 7:15, 24:37-39, Luke 17:26-32, John 8:34, Romans 6:16-22, Galatians 5:13, Hebrews 6:4-6/10:26-29, Revelation 2:14/20:1-3, 1 Peter 3:20).
  • 2 Peter 3: fully cross-referenced — OT sources (Genesis 1:6-9, Psalm 33:6, Psalm 90:4, Isaiah 5:19/13:6,9/34:4/65:17/66:15-16/66:22, Ezekiel 18:23/33:11, Joel 2:1, Amos 5:18-20, Zephaniah 1:14-18, Malachi 2:17/4:1), NT parallels (Jude 17-18, Ephesians 2:20/4:14, Matthew 24:43, Luke 12:39, 1 Thessalonians 5:2, 1 Timothy 2:4, John 3:16, Romans 2:4/8:19-23/11:36/16:27, Hebrews 11:3, 2 Timothy 3:16, Revelation 3:3/16:15/20:11/21:1, 2 Corinthians 3:18, Ephesians 3:21).

No chapter of 2 Peter lacks OT or NT cross-reference material; the letter is unusually dense in both Old Testament typology (via ch. 2’s historical exemplars) and New Testament parallel (via its close relationship to Jude, the Synoptic Transfiguration accounts, and Paul’s letters, explicitly including Romans by name-category in 3:15-16).
