Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — Luke 1–24
Purpose and Scope
This document is the full-book doctrine matrix for the Luke curriculum, required by PRD Phase 1 Step 4. It is generated in exact consistency with doctrine_risk_registry.json (Luke): the same 38 doctrine entries, the same risk tiers, and the same review routing appear here in expanded, chapter-referenced form. No doctrine, tier, or routing decision in this document contradicts the registry; this document exists to show the supporting-passage evidence and translation-risk reasoning behind each registry entry, and to confirm full-book (chapter 1–24) coverage as mandated by the PRD.
The core passage, Luke 4:16-21 (Jesus’ messianic self-disclosure at Nazareth), is the theological anchor of this curriculum and of the doctrine messianic_self_disclosure below — but per the PRD mandate, this analysis covers every chapter of Luke’s Gospel, not merely chapter 4.
Risk tier definitions are inherited unchanged from the Romans baseline:
| Tier | Definition | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | Mistranslation alters or destroys essential doctrine | Human theologian, every occurrence |
| High | Mistranslation creates significant theological confusion or syncretism risk | Human theologian |
| Medium | Mistranslation reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning | Native speaker review |
| Low | Mistranslation causes minor misunderstanding or imprecision | Automated review |
Part 1 — Full Doctrine Matrix (by Risk Tier)
CRITICAL RISK (16 doctrines — human theologian review required for every occurrence)
| # | Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Luke) | Risk | Translation Risk (grounded reason) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Messianic Self-Disclosure at Nazareth | 3:22; 4:16-21 (core); 9:20 | Critical | Jesus’ claim to be the Isaiah 61 Anointed One is the curriculum’s theological anchor. It must be taught as a unique, once-for-all self-disclosure of the Messiah — not one moment in Vishnu’s recognized avatar sequence (culminating, in some Vaishnava schemes, with Krishna), and the anointing language must not be rendered with vocabulary evoking Hindu abhisheka ritual consecration or the historic Pakhangba-lineage royal anointing of Meitei kingship. | Human theologian |
| 2 | Incarnation | 1:31-35; 2:1-7 | Critical | The virgin conception and birth narratives must convey the eternal Son’s permanent, unique assumption of human nature, once — never রেন্ডার্ড with অবতার-adjacent vocabulary, and never assimilated to the Ras Lila tradition’s staging of Krishna’s repeatable divine appearances. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Sonship of Christ | 1:32-35; 3:22; 9:35 | Critical | Eternal, unique Sonship declared at the annunciation, baptism, and transfiguration must not be read as one avatar among Vishnu’s many recognized avatars in Manipuri Vaishnavism; তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা must be used in full, never a bare filial term that could read as honorary sonship. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Deity of Christ | 1:32; 2:11; 5:20-21; 9:28-36 | Critical | Christ’s full, co-equal divine nature — his authority to forgive sins (5:20-21) and his transfiguration glory (9:28-36) — must not be softened into “a great avatar” or a specially favored spirit within the Umang Lai pantheon. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Lordship of Christ | 2:11; 6:5; 20:41-44 | Critical | Exclusive, supreme Lordship — including Christ’s claim to be Lord even of the Sabbath (6:5) — must never use ঠাকুর, the devotional title closely tied to Krishna in Manipuri Vaishnava practice, which would place Christ inside the existing bhakti-devotional system rather than above it. | Human theologian |
| 6 | Son of Man Identity | 5:24; 9:22,26,58; 12:8-10; 19:10; 21:27; 22:69 | Critical | This distinctive self-designation — combining true humanity, divine authority, foretold suffering, and future glory — has no equivalent category in either Sanamahi or Vaishnava tradition and must not collapse into an avatar’s temporary human appearance nor into mere ordinary human sonship. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Resurrection of Christ | 9:22; 18:33; 24:1-49 | Critical | Bodily, historical, once-for-all resurrection must never use পুনর্জন্ম (rebirth), a concept absorbed into Meitei religious discourse through Vaishnavization; must also be explicitly distinguished from the earlier resuscitation-signs at 7:11-17 and 8:49-56, which foreshadow but are not identical to this definitive event. | Human theologian |
| 8 | The Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History | 1:15,35,41,67; 2:25-27; 3:22; 4:1,14,18; 11:13; 24:49 | Critical | The Spirit’s personal, active work across the infancy narrative, Jesus’ anointing/ministry, and the promised power from on high must always use the full থাওয়াই অসেংবা form; bare থাওয়াই would place this divine Person within the populated Sanamahi spirit-world of Apokpa ancestral spirits and Umang Lai nature-deities. | Human theologian |
| 9 | Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit | 12:10 | Critical | The unforgivable sin of definitively rejecting the Spirit’s testimony to Christ requires the full থাওয়াই অসেংবা form and careful pastoral framing, kept categorically distinct from any offense against the Sanamahi household deity or an Umang Lai deity. | Human theologian |
| 10 | Salvation and Eternal Life | 1:47,69,77; 2:11,30; 3:6; 7:50; 10:25-28; 18:9-14,18-30; 19:9-10 | Critical | Must never use মোক্ষ (Vaishnava liberation) and must never be framed as a devotee’s hoped-for eternal union with or nearness to Krishna’s presence; salvation is reconciliation with a personal, holy God through Christ, and eternal life is relational, resurrection-quality life with him, not escape from a rebirth cycle. | Human theologian |
| 11 | Justification by Faith | 18:9-14 | Critical | The tax collector, not the self-righteous Pharisee, goes home justified (18:14) — this direct reuse of the Romans baseline’s central soteriological term must resist any bhakti-merit reading in which humility itself becomes a devotional achievement earning favor. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Atonement and the New Covenant | 22:14-20,37; 23:44-46 | Critical | Christ’s atoning death instituting the new covenant must be taught as a once-for-all, historically unique, substitutionary act, kept distinct from sacrificial blood-offering rites in some indigenous Sanamahi practice and from Vaishnava temple devotional-memorial practice; escalated per the baseline’s atonement/propitiation rule at every occurrence. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Love of God and Neighbor | 6:27-36; 10:25-37; 15:11-32 | Critical | A newly surfaced Critical doctrine for this curriculum: Manipuri Vaishnavism’s central devotional category is প্রেম (prema), the romantic-devotional love of Krishna and Radha/the gopis celebrated in Ras Lila; agapē self-giving love — including love of enemies — must never be rendered with প্রেম-adjacent vocabulary, which would import an erotic bhakti frame into commands never intended to carry it. | Human theologian |
| 14 | Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People | 2:29-32; 3:6; 7:1-10; 10:25-37; 17:11-19; 19:1-10; 24:47 | Critical | Retain unqualified universal scope — Jew and Gentile, rich and poor, tax collector and Pharisee, Samaritan and Israelite — as a point of particular sensitivity given Manipur’s contemporary inter-community tensions; the gospel’s reach must not be narrowed to any one ethnic, clan (yumnak), or economic group’s exclusive benefit. | Human theologian |
| 15 | The Afterlife and the Intermediate State | 16:19-31; 23:43 | Critical | Paradise and Hades name distinct, personal post-death states before final judgment and must not be conflated with the Vaishnava Vaikuntha/Goloka, Naraka, or Swarga, nor with the Sanamahi ancestral-spirit (Apokpa) realm. | Human theologian |
| 16 | Spiritual Conflict and Exorcism | 4:1-13,31-37; 8:26-39; 9:37-43; 10:17-20; 11:14-26; 13:10-17; 22:3,31,53 | Critical | Jesus’ authority over the devil and unclean spirits is a unique sign of the kingdom’s in-breaking authority over a personal, hostile adversary; must never be confused with ancestral Apokpa spirits or the largely benevolent Umang Lai nature-deities honored at Lai Haraoba. | Human theologian |
HIGH RISK (13 doctrines — human theologian review required)
| # | Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Luke) | Risk | Translation Risk (grounded reason) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 17 | Faith | 5:20; 7:9,50; 8:25,48; 17:5-6,19; 18:8,42 | High | Personal trust in Christ; the object of faith must always be named and distinguished from ভক্তি (bhakti), the specific devotional-love practice central to Manipuri Vaishnavism. The Gentile centurion’s faith (7:9) is a key test case for faith crossing ethnic boundaries. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins | 3:3; 5:20-24,32; 7:47-50; 11:4; 13:3,5; 15:7,10,18-24; 17:3-4; 19:8-9; 23:34,43; 24:47 | High | A personal, moral turning toward the God of Israel and his pardon, not ritual purification (prayaschitta) or Umang Lai propitiation; the shared Greek root (ἄφεσις) linking “release to the captives” (4:18) with “forgiveness of sins” elsewhere requires a standing cross-reference note so doctrinal unity is not lost across two different Manipuri renderings. | Human theologian |
| 19 | Good News to the Poor and Marginalized | 1:52-53; 4:18; 6:20-25; 7:22; 14:12-14,21; 16:19-31; 18:22-25; 21:1-4 | High | Must retain full socioeconomic force and Luke’s reversal-ethic; must not be reduced to “spiritually poor” only, nor absorbed into a merit-based almsgiving framework such as Vaishnava dana understood as devotional merit-building, nor softened given real economic disparities in contemporary Manipuri society. | Human theologian |
| 20 | Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners | 5:27-32; 7:36-50; 10:33-35; 15:1-2,20-24; 19:1-10 | High | Meitei table and commensality practice carries its own social-boundary weight, including clan (yumnak) dining custom and historically Vaishnava ritual-purity-adjacent dining rules; Jesus’ inclusive table fellowship with tax collectors and sinners must be taught as a deliberate, radical reversal of exclusion, not softened into generic hospitality or reduced to ritual almsgiving. | Human theologian |
| 21 | The Cost and Joy of Discipleship | 5:11,27-28; 9:23-25,57-62; 14:25-33; 18:28-30 | High | Must avoid শিষ্য, the term for a devotee-disciple within Manipuri Vaishnavism’s active guru-shishya lineage tradition; a Christian disciple follows Christ personally at total cost, not a human guru within an ongoing devotional-transmission lineage, and the resulting joy must be distinguished from the festive, ritual celebratory joy of Ras Lila performance or Lai Haraoba festival gladness. | Human theologian |
| 22 | The Kingdom of God Present and Future | 4:19,21; 11:20; 13:24; 14:15-24; 17:20-21; 21:27-31; 22:16,18 | High | God’s reign is announced as both inaugurated now (“today,” 4:21) and awaited in future consummation; must not be read as one more calendrical festival paralleling the Lai Haraoba seasonal festival cycle or the Vaishnava festival calendar, nor collapsed into the historic Meitei kingship’s own royal-divine-lineage political framing tied to Pakhangba descent. | Human theologian |
| 23 | Prayer and Dependence on God | 3:21; 5:16; 6:12; 9:18,28-29; 11:1-13; 12:22-31; 18:1-8; 22:39-46 | High | Jesus’ own sustained practice of direct prayer to the Father must be distinguished from petitions traditionally carried to the Umang Lai through a maibi or maiba on a community’s behalf, and from Vaishnava japa/kirtan devotional recitation; this is direct filial access, not ritual intermediation. | Human theologian |
| 24 | Davidic Covenant | 1:27,32,69; 2:4,11; 3:31; 18:38-39; 20:41-44 | High | Requires explicit Old Testament covenant background teaching; the Meitei cultural emphasis on royal and clan (yumnak) descent lines gives “Son of David” language a point of natural, if distinct, resonance with the historic Pakhangba-lineage claims of Meitei kingship, which must be explicitly distinguished rather than assumed equivalent. | Human theologian |
| 25 | Inspiration of Scripture and Fulfillment of Prophecy | 1:1-4; 4:17-21; 18:31; 22:37; 24:25-27,44-45 | High | Given the 1729 Puya Meithaba burning of indigenous Meitei religious manuscripts (puya), this curriculum must teach the God-breathed, providentially preserved, and now historically fulfilled character of Scripture with particular sensitivity to Meitei cultural memory around lost sacred texts, while retaining linear historical fulfillment in Christ rather than a cyclical avatar-descent pattern. | Human theologian |
| 26 | Unity of Jews and Gentiles and Mission to the Nations | 2:32; 3:6; 4:25-27; 7:1-10; 10:1-37; 17:11-19; 24:47 | High | Given the historical association of Christian mission with colonial-era administration and, more recently, with sensitive inter-community relations within Manipur, frame the extension of the gospel to all peoples as the church’s own theological calling flowing from Christ’s own teaching, not a foreign or ethnically-coded project. | Human theologian |
| 27 | Providence and Divine Sovereignty | 1:37; 12:6-7,22-31; 21:18; 22:22,42 | High | God’s personal, purposive governance, including over Christ’s own path to the cross, must never be rendered with vocabulary evoking ৱাইফম (impersonal fate) or a karmic law of the universe; this is the personal will of a Father, not an impersonal cosmic order. | Human theologian |
| 28 | Ascension and Exaltation of Christ | 9:51; 24:50-53 | High | Christ’s bodily return to the Father’s presence is a unique, historical, once-for-all exaltation event, not a devotional apotheosis or a recurring divine ascent/descent pattern as found in some Vaishnava avatar theology. | Human theologian |
| 29 | Kingdom Ethics of Reversal (Rich/Poor, Proud/Humble) | 1:46-55; 6:20-26; 14:7-11; 16:19-31; 18:9-14 | High | God’s own reversal of the proud and humble, rich and poor, must be taught as his direct action within the kingdom’s arrival, not softened into a social-etiquette maxim nor read as endorsing existing clan (yumnak) or economic hierarchies as fixed and unchangeable. | Human theologian |
MEDIUM RISK (7 doctrines — native speaker review recommended)
| # | Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Luke) | Risk | Translation Risk (grounded reason) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | Baptism and Repentance | 3:3,7-14,21-22 | Medium | John’s baptism of repentance must be distinguished from Lai Haraoba ritual purification and Vaishnava ceremonial bathing (snana), which follow different ritual logics of purification rather than repentance before a personal God. | Native speaker review |
| 31 | Sabbath and Christ’s Lordship Over the Law | 4:16; 6:1-11; 13:10-17; 14:1-6 | Medium | The Sabbath healing controversies must be kept distinct from the Sanamahi/Umang Lai festival calendar (Lai Haraoba) and the Vaishnava fasting/observance calendar, which follow different ritual logics; Christ’s authority over the Sabbath is a Lordship claim, not merely a calendar-reform debate. | Native speaker review |
| 32 | Church as Gathered Community and Worship Setting | 4:16,20; 6:6; 13:10 | Medium | The synagogue as the institutional setting of Jesus’ ministry must remain clearly distinct from কলিসিয়া (church), মন্দির (Vaishnava temple), and the Umang Lai sacred grove — the other prominent worship-site categories in Meitei religious geography. | Native speaker review |
| 33 | Civil Authority and Government | 20:20-26; 23:1-25 | Medium | Jesus’ teaching on paying taxes to Caesar and his trial before Roman and Herodian authorities model limited, non-absolute submission to civil government; flagged per the baseline’s government/authority routing convention rather than escalated to theologian review. | Native speaker review |
| 34 | Mission and Witness | 9:1-6; 10:1-12; 24:44-49 | Medium | The sending of the Twelve and the Seventy, and the final commissioning of witnesses, should be framed as the church’s own calling flowing from personal encounter with the risen Christ, following the baseline’s caution about mission’s colonial-era and inter-community associations in Manipur. | Native speaker review |
| 35 | Divine Calling of Disciples | 5:1-11,27-28; 6:12-16; 9:57-62 | Medium | The specific call of the Twelve and other disciples must be distinguished from a maibi being ritually seized or called by an Umang Lai deity during Lai Haraoba trance, and from entry into a Vaishnava guru-shishya devotional lineage. | Native speaker review |
| 36 | Justice and Persistent Prayer | 11:5-13; 18:1-8 | Medium | The parables of persistent prayer model confident hope in a personal, just, and responsive God, not appeasement of an indifferent power or negotiation with an ancestral spirit through ritual intermediation. | Native speaker review |

| # | Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Luke) | Risk | Translation Risk (grounded reason) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 37 | Thanksgiving and Gratitude | 17:16; 22:17,19 | Low | Standard vocabulary for grateful acknowledgment of God’s goodness, exemplified by the healed Samaritan leper; minor risk of over-ritualization only. | Automated review |
| 38 | Mutual Edification and Encouragement | 22:32 | Low | Christ’s charge to Peter to strengthen his brothers after his own restoration; standard low-risk encouragement vocabulary, no significant syncretism exposure. | Automated review |

Coverage confirmation: All 24 chapters of Luke have been reviewed. Every chapter maps to at least one doctrine in Part 1’s matrix; chapters 8 and 19 are explicitly noted above as reinforcing existing doctrine-risk items (through resuscitation-signs and triumphal-entry material respectively) rather than introducing new ones, per the PRD’s requirement that such chapters be noted explicitly rather than silently omitted.
Part 3 — Risk Summary (must match doctrine_risk_registry.json exactly)
| Risk Tier | Doctrine Count | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 16 | Human theologian, every occurrence |
| High | 13 | Human theologian |
| Medium | 7 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 2 | Automated review |
| Total | 38 | 29 theologian + 7 native speaker + 2 automated |
This matrix is fully consistent with doctrine_risk_registry.json (Luke, version 1): identical doctrine set, identical risk tiers, identical review routing. It extends that registry with per-chapter passage mapping and grounded translation-risk reasoning for Phase 2 planning and reviewer briefing. No entry here may be used to justify a different tier or routing than the one recorded in doctrine_risk_registry.json; where the two documents describe the same doctrine, doctrine_risk_registry.json remains the machine-enforced source of truth and this document is its human-readable rationale.
See 08_core_glossary.md for the term-level renderings supporting each doctrine above, and 12_ai_translation_requirements.md (Romans baseline, extended for Luke in a forthcoming Phase 1 Step 8 deliverable) for the AI enforcement instructions built on this analysis.
Critical Risk Doctrines
Messianic Self-Disclosure at Nazareth
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী মশা ফোংদোকপা
Key terms: anointing_of_jesus, today_fulfilled, fulfilled, messiah
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’ claim to be the Isaiah 61 Anointed One is the curriculum’s core passage and must be taught as a unique, once-for-all messianic self-disclosure — not one moment within Vishnu’s recognized avatar sequence culminating, in some Vaishnava schemes, with Krishna, and not a ritual anointing paralleling Hindu abhisheka or the historic Pakhangba-lineage royal consecration of Meitei kingship.
Incarnation
Manipuri name: মীওইগী মহৈ লৌবা
Key terms: incarnation, seed_of_david
Review routing: Human theologian
The virgin conception and birth narratives must be taught as the eternal Son’s permanent, unique assumption of human nature, once, not a recurring divine descent enacted in devotional performance such as the Ras Lila tradition’s staging of Krishna’s appearances.
Sonship of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী মচানুপা ওইবা
Key terms: son_of_god, father
Review routing: Human theologian
Eternal, unique Sonship declared at the annunciation, baptism, and transfiguration must not be read as one avatar among Vishnu’s many recognized avatars as understood within Manipuri Vaishnavism.
Deity of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী তেংবাং মপু ওইবা
Key terms: glory, lord, god, authority_exousia
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s full, co-equal divine nature — especially his authority to forgive sins (5:20-21) and the transfiguration glory (9:28-36) — must not be softened into ‘a great avatar’ or a specially favored spirit within the Umang Lai pantheon.
Lordship of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী মপু ওইবা
Key terms: lord, sabbath
Review routing: Human theologian
Exclusive, supreme Lordship, including Lord of the Sabbath (6:5), must never use ঠাকুর, the devotional title closely associated with Krishna in Manipuri Vaishnava practice, which would place Christ inside the existing bhakti-devotional system rather than above it.
Son of Man Identity
Manipuri name: মীওইগী মচানুপা ওইবগী খংনবা
Key terms: son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
This distinctive self-designation combining true humanity, divine authority, foretold suffering, and future glory has no equivalent category in either Sanamahi or Vaishnava tradition and must not be collapsed into an avatar’s temporary human appearance nor into mere ordinary human sonship.
Resurrection of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী সিবদগী হিংজত-লকপা
Key terms: resurrection
Review routing: Human theologian
Bodily, historical, once-for-all resurrection, not পুনর্জন্ম (rebirth), a concept absorbed into Meitei religious discourse through Vaishnavization; must also be explicitly distinguished from the earlier temporary resuscitation-signs (7:11-17; 8:49-56), which point toward but are not identical with this definitive event.
The Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation History
Manipuri name: থাওয়াই অসেংবাগী থৌদাং অহানবগী মপুং তারবা ৱারিদা
Key terms: holy_spirit, prophecy
Review routing: Human theologian
The Spirit’s personal, active work across the infancy narrative, Jesus’ anointing and ministry, and the promise of power from on high must always use the full থাওয়াই অসেংবা form; bare থাওয়াই would place this Person within the populated Sanamahi spirit-world of Apokpa ancestral spirits and Umang Lai nature-deities.
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
Manipuri name: থাওয়াই অসেংবাগী মথক্তা ৱা শাবগী পাপ
Key terms: blasphemy_against_holy_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
The unforgivable sin of definitively rejecting the Spirit’s testimony to Christ requires the full থাওয়াই অসেংবা form and careful pastoral framing, kept distinct from any offense against the Sanamahi household deity or an Umang Lai deity.
Salvation and Eternal Life
Manipuri name: অহানবা অমসুং নাইদবা হিংবা
Key terms: salvation, eternal_life, savior, lost
Review routing: Human theologian
Never মোক্ষ (Vaishnava liberation) and never framed as a devotee’s hoped-for eternal union with or nearness to Krishna’s presence; salvation is reconciliation with a personal, holy God through Christ, and eternal life is relational, resurrection-quality life with him, not liberation from a rebirth cycle.
Justification by Faith
Manipuri name: থাজবগী মপুংফাবা অচুম্বা ওইহনবা
Key terms: justification, faith
Review routing: Human theologian
The tax collector, not the self-righteous Pharisee, goes home justified (18:14); this direct, load-bearing reuse of the Romans baseline’s central soteriological term must resist any bhakti-merit reading in which humility itself becomes a devotional achievement earning favor.
Atonement and the New Covenant
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী সিবগী মপুংফাবা অমসুং অনৌবা ৱারেপ্পা
Key terms: new_covenant, body_and_blood, remembrance
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s atoning death instituting the new covenant must be taught as a once-for-all, historically unique, substitutionary act, kept distinct from ritual sacrificial blood-offerings practiced in some indigenous Sanamahi rites and from Vaishnava temple devotional-memorial practice; requires human theologian review at every occurrence per the baseline’s atonement/propitiation escalation rule.
Love of God and Neighbor
Manipuri name: তেংবাং মপু অমসুং নকশিংবা মীওইবু নুংশিবা
Key terms: love_agape, neighbor, samaritan
Review routing: Human theologian
A newly surfaced Critical-risk doctrine for this curriculum: Manipuri Vaishnavism’s central devotional category is প্রেম (prema), the romantic-devotional love between Krishna and Radha/the gopis celebrated in the Ras Lila; agapē self-giving love, including love of enemies, must never be rendered with প্রেম-adjacent vocabulary, which would import an erotic bhakti-devotional frame into commands never intended to carry that connotation.
Jesus as Savior for All Nations and All People
Manipuri name: ফুরুপ পুম্নমক অমসুং মীওই পুম্নমক্কী অহানবিবা
Key terms: light_to_the_gentiles, gentiles, tax_collector, samaritan, poor, rich
Review routing: Human theologian
Retain unqualified universal scope — Jew and Gentile, rich and poor, tax collector and Pharisee — as a point of particular sensitivity given Manipur’s contemporary inter-community tensions; the gospel’s reach must not be narrowed to one ethnic, clan (yumnak), or economic group’s exclusive benefit.
The Afterlife and the Intermediate State
Manipuri name: সিবগী তুংদা লৈরিবা মফম
Key terms: paradise, hades
Review routing: Human theologian
Paradise and Hades name distinct, personal post-death states before final judgment and must not be conflated with the Vaishnava Vaikuntha/Goloka, Naraka, or Swarga, nor with the Sanamahi ancestral-spirit (Apokpa) realm.
Spiritual Conflict and Exorcism
Manipuri name: থাওয়াইগী লান অমসুং ফৎতবা থাওয়াই হৎপা
Key terms: devil_satan, unclean_spirit, temptation_testing
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’ authority over the devil and unclean spirits is a unique sign of the kingdom’s in-breaking authority over a personal, hostile adversary; must never be confused with ancestral Apokpa spirits or the, in Sanamahi belief, largely benevolent Umang Lai nature-deities honored at Lai Haraoba.
High Risk Doctrines
Faith
Manipuri name: থাজবা
Key terms: faith
Review routing: Human theologian
Personal trust in Christ; the object of faith must always be named and distinguished from ভক্তি (bhakti), the specific devotional-love practice central to Manipuri Vaishnavism. The Gentile centurion’s faith (7:9) is a particularly important test case for faith crossing ethnic boundaries.
Repentance and Forgiveness of Sins
Manipuri name: পুক্নিং হোংবা অমসুং পাপ কোকপা
Key terms: repentance, forgiveness_of_sins, release_liberty
Review routing: Human theologian
A personal, moral turning toward the God of Israel and his pardon, not ritual purification (prayaschitta) or Umang Lai propitiation offerings; the shared Greek root (ἄφεσις) linking ‘release to the captives’ (4:18) with ‘forgiveness of sins’ elsewhere requires a standing cross-reference note so the doctrinal unity is not lost across the two different Manipuri renderings.
Good News to the Poor and Marginalized
Manipuri name: মথৌ তাবা অমসুং নোল্লাকপা মীওইশিংগী নুংঙাইবগী পাউ
Key terms: poor, captive, blind_sight_recovery, oppressed_crushed, blessed_makarios, widow, rich
Review routing: Human theologian
Must retain full socioeconomic force and Luke’s reversal-ethic; must not be reduced to ‘spiritually poor’ only, nor absorbed into a merit-based almsgiving framework such as Vaishnava dana understood as devotional merit-building, nor softened given real economic disparities in contemporary Manipuri society.
Jesus’ Compassion and Table Fellowship with Sinners
Manipuri name: পাপ্পা মীওইশিংগা লোইনা চাক চাবগী চানবিবা
Key terms: mercy_compassion, tax_collector, sinner, table_fellowship, samaritan
Review routing: Human theologian
Meitei table and commensality practice carries its own social-boundary weight, including clan (yumnak) dining custom and historically Vaishnava ritual-purity-adjacent dining rules; Jesus’ inclusive table fellowship with tax collectors and sinners must be taught as a deliberate, radical reversal of exclusion, not softened into generic hospitality or reduced to ritual almsgiving.
The Cost and Joy of Discipleship
Manipuri name: তমজবগী মথৌ পীবা অমসুং নুংঙাইবা
Key terms: disciple, cross_stauros, joy
Review routing: Human theologian
Avoid শিষ্য, the term for a devotee-disciple within Manipuri Vaishnavism’s active guru-shishya lineage tradition; a Christian disciple follows Christ personally at total cost, not a human guru within an ongoing devotional-transmission lineage, and the resulting joy must be distinguished from the festive, ritual celebratory joy of Ras Lila performance or Lai Haraoba festival gladness.
The Kingdom of God Present and Future
Manipuri name: তেংবাং মপুগী লৈপাক ঙসি অমসুং তুংদা লাকপা
Key terms: acceptable_year_of_the_lord, today_fulfilled, narrow_door, great_banquet, watch_and_pray, faithful_steward
Review routing: Human theologian
God’s reign is announced as both inaugurated now (‘today,’ 4:21) and awaited in future consummation; must not be read as one more calendrical festival paralleling the Lai Haraoba seasonal festival cycle or the Vaishnava festival calendar, nor collapsed into the historic Meitei kingship’s own royal-divine-lineage political framing tied to Pakhangba descent.
Prayer and Dependence on God
Manipuri name: হায়জবা অমসুং তেংবাং মপুদা থাজনবা
Key terms: prayer, daily_bread, anxiety, justice_vindication
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’ own sustained practice of direct prayer to the Father must be distinguished from petitions traditionally carried to the Umang Lai through a maibi or maiba on a community’s behalf, and from Vaishnava japa/kirtan devotional recitation; this is direct filial access, not ritual intermediation.
Davidic Covenant
Manipuri name: দাউদগী ৱারেপ্পা
Key terms: seed_of_david, david
Review routing: Human theologian
Requires explicit Old Testament covenant background teaching; the Meitei cultural emphasis on royal and clan (yumnak) descent lines gives ‘Son of David’ language a point of natural, if distinct, resonance with the historic Pakhangba-lineage claims of Meitei kingship, which must be explicitly distinguished rather than assumed as equivalent.
Inspiration of Scripture and Fulfillment of Prophecy
Manipuri name: অসেংবা লাইরিক অমসুং ফোংদোকপা ৱারোলগী মপুং ফাবা
Key terms: fulfilled, isaiah, prophecy
Review routing: Human theologian
Given the 1729 Puya Meithaba burning of indigenous Meitei religious manuscripts (puya), this curriculum must teach the God-breathed, providentially preserved, and now historically fulfilled character of Scripture with particular sensitivity to Meitei cultural memory around lost sacred texts, while retaining linear historical fulfillment in Christ rather than a cyclical avatar-descent pattern.
Unity of Jews and Gentiles and Mission to the Nations
Manipuri name: জুহুদীশিং অমসুং অতোপ্পা ফুরুপশিংগী অমত্তা ওইবা অমসুং পাউ সন্দোকপা
Key terms: light_to_the_gentiles, gentiles, samaritan, mission
Review routing: Human theologian
Given the historical association of Christian mission work with colonial-era administration and, more recently, with sensitive inter-community relations within Manipur, frame the extension of the gospel to all peoples as the church’s own theological calling flowing from Christ’s own teaching, not a foreign or ethnically-coded project.
Providence and Divine Sovereignty
Manipuri name: তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং
Key terms: providence
Review routing: Human theologian
God’s personal, purposive governance, including over Christ’s own path to the cross, must never be rendered with vocabulary evoking ৱাইফম (impersonal fate) or a karmic law of the universe; this is the personal will of a Father, not an impersonal cosmic order.
Ascension and Exaltation of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী স্বর্গদা লৌথোকপা
Key terms: ascension, heaven
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s bodily return to the Father’s presence is a unique, historical, once-for-all exaltation event, not a devotional apotheosis or a recurring divine ascent/descent pattern as found in some Vaishnava avatar theology.
Kingdom Ethics of Reversal (Rich/Poor, Proud/Humble)
Manipuri name: লৈপাক্কী হোংথোকপগী চৎনবিরাক
Key terms: humility_exaltation, blessed_makarios, woe, rich, poor
Review routing: Human theologian
God’s own reversal of the proud and humble, rich and poor, must be taught as his direct action within the kingdom’s arrival, not softened into a social-etiquette maxim nor read as endorsing existing clan (yumnak) or economic hierarchies as fixed and unchangeable.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Baptism and Repentance
Manipuri name: বাপ্তিস্মা অমসুং পুক্নিং হোংবা
Key terms: baptism, repentance
Review routing: Native speaker review
John’s baptism of repentance must be distinguished from Lai Haraoba ritual purification and Vaishnava ceremonial bathing (snana), which follow different ritual logics of purification rather than repentance before a personal God.
Sabbath and Christ’s Lordship Over the Law
Manipuri name: সাব্বাথগী মথক্তা ক্রিস্তোগী মপু ওইবা
Key terms: sabbath, lord
Review routing: Native speaker review
The Sabbath healing controversies must be kept distinct from the Sanamahi/Umang Lai festival calendar (Lai Haraoba) and the Vaishnava fasting/observance calendar, which follow different ritual logics; Christ’s authority over the Sabbath is a Lordship claim, not a calendar-reform debate.
Church as Gathered Community and Worship Setting
Manipuri name: মীওইশিং তিননা হোনবা অমসুং থাগৎচরি তৌবগী মফম
Key terms: synagogue, church
Review routing: Native speaker review
The synagogue as the institutional setting of Jesus’ ministry must remain clearly distinct from কলিসিয়া (church), মন্দির (Vaishnava temple), and the Umang Lai sacred grove — the other prominent worship-site categories in Meitei religious geography.
Civil Authority and Government
Manipuri name: গৌরনमेंटকী মথক্তা ইনবা
Key terms: passover, pilate_herod_barabbas
Review routing: Native speaker review
Jesus’ teaching on paying taxes to Caesar and his trial before Roman and Herodian authorities model a limited, non-absolute submission to civil government; flagged per the baseline’s government/authority native-speaker routing convention rather than escalated to theologian review.
Mission and Witness
Manipuri name: পাউ সন্দোকপগী থৌদাং অমসুং সাক্ষী পীবা
Key terms: witnesses, mission
Review routing: Native speaker review
The sending of the Twelve and the Seventy, and the final commissioning of witnesses, should be framed as the church’s own calling flowing from personal encounter with the risen Christ, following the baseline’s caution about mission’s colonial-era and inter-community associations in Manipur.
Divine Calling of Disciples
Manipuri name: তমজবাশিংবু কৌখিবা
Key terms: disciple, called
Review routing: Native speaker review
The specific call of the Twelve and other disciples must be distinguished from a maibi being ritually seized or called by an Umang Lai deity during Lai Haraoba trance, and from entry into a Vaishnava guru-shishya devotional lineage.
Justice and Persistent Prayer
Manipuri name: অচুম্বা ৱাফম অমসুং হায়জবগী থাজবা
Key terms: justice_vindication, prayer
Review routing: Native speaker review
The parables of persistent prayer model confident hope in a personal, just, and responsive God, not appeasement of an indifferent power or negotiation with an ancestral spirit through ritual intermediation.
Low Risk Doctrines
Thanksgiving and Gratitude
Manipuri name: থাগৎচরি
Key terms: thanksgiving
Review routing: Automated review
Standard vocabulary for grateful acknowledgment of God’s goodness, exemplified by the healed Samaritan leper; minor risk of over-ritualization.
Mutual Edification and Encouragement
Manipuri name: অমাগা অমাগা থাওয়াই পীবা
Key terms: exhort
Review routing: Automated review
Christ’s charge to Peter to strengthen his brothers after his own restoration; standard low-risk encouragement vocabulary.
