Doctrine Analysis
11 — Doctrine Analysis: Philemon (English → Manipuri)
Curriculum: Philemon 1:1–25
Core passage (theological anchor): Philemon 1:8–21
Language pair: English → Manipuri (Meiteilon, Bengali script)
Generated: consistent with doctrine_risk_registry.json (Philemon), v. 2026-07-09
Governing baseline: Romans Language Package (translation_memory.json, bible_term_registry.json, doctrine_risk_registry.json, 12_ai_translation_requirements.md)
Purpose and Method
This document is the full doctrine matrix for Philemon required by PRD Phase 1 Step 4. It spans the entire letter — every verse, from the salutation (1:1) through the final benediction (1:25) — not merely the core passage (1:8–21), which remains the theological anchor but is never treated as the boundary of analysis.
Philemon is a single-chapter, 25-verse letter. “Full-book coverage” for this curriculum therefore means full-section coverage across the letter’s natural rhetorical divisions: Salutation (1:1–3), Thanksgiving and Prayer (1:4–7), the Appeal for Onesimus / core passage (1:8–21), and the Closing (1:22–25). Every section is addressed below, including confirmation of sections that introduce no new doctrine beyond what is already covered, per the mandate that such sections be noted explicitly rather than silently omitted.
Doctrine names, risk tiers, and manipuri_doctrine_name values below are copied exactly from the accompanying doctrine_risk_registry.json and must not drift from it. This document adds: per-section passage mapping across the whole letter, translation-risk rationale, and review routing, in the same structure Phase 2 Step 17 expects from the Romans baseline’s own doctrine analysis conventions.
Section-by-Section Coverage
Section 1 — Salutation (Philemon 1:1–3)
| Doctrine | Risk | Verses in this section | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grace as Unmerited Gift (Epistolary Frame) | Critical | 1:3 | Opening grace-and-peace greeting; reuses baseline Grace term exactly (মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং). |
| Gospel Proclamation amid Suffering | Medium | 1:1 | Paul’s self-designation as “prisoner of Christ Jesus” opens the letter, framing imprisonment as gospel identity from the first verse. |
| Christian Partnership and Fellowship | Medium | 1:1–2 | ”Fellow worker,” “fellow soldier,” and the addressing of Apphia and Archippus establish the letter’s partnership vocabulary before it is developed further in 1:4–7. |
| House Church as God’s People | Medium | 1:2 | ”The church in your house” is named in the very first section. |
| Christian Brotherhood across Social Status | High | 1:1–2 | Timothy is named “brother” (ἀδελφός) here, establishing the kinship vocabulary that will be extended radically to Onesimus in 1:16. |
Coverage confirmation: Section reviewed in full. No terms beyond those already tracked in 08_core_glossary.md Sections A–B are introduced here.
Section 2 — Thanksgiving and Prayer (Philemon 1:4–7)
| Doctrine | Risk | Verses in this section | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christian Partnership and Fellowship | Medium | 1:4, 1:6 | κοινωνία τῆς πίστεως (“the partnership that comes from your faith,” 1:6) is introduced here as active, task-oriented gospel co-labor. |
| House Church as God’s People | Medium | 1:5, 1:7 | ”Saints” (ἅγιοι) reused from baseline; love and faith “toward all the saints” anchors the corporate-church sense before the letter narrows to the Philemon-Onesimus case. |
| Thanksgiving and Joy in Ministry | Medium | 1:4, 1:7 | Paul’s thanksgiving (1:4) and Philemon’s having “refreshed the hearts of the saints” (1:7) introduce হরাওবা (joy) and থমোই (heart/inmost affection) as recurring structural terms. |
| Christian Brotherhood across Social Status | High | 1:7 | ”Brother” (ἀδελφός) used in direct address to Philemon himself, preparing the reader for its climactic re-use for Onesimus. |
Coverage confirmation: Section reviewed in full. This section functions as the letter’s emotional and relational overture; every doctrine it raises (partnership, corporate sainthood, joy-in-ministry, brotherhood) recurs and intensifies in the core passage below.
Section 3 — The Appeal for Onesimus / Core Passage (Philemon 1:8–21)
This is the letter’s theological center and the curriculum’s designated core passage. Every doctrine in the registry reaches its fullest expression here.
| Doctrine | Risk | Verses in this section | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intercession and Appeal on Behalf of Another | High | 1:8–10, 1:14, 1:21 | Paul’s deliberate choice of appeal (παρακαλῶ) over command (ἐπιτάσσω), grounded in a real but relinquished apostolic παρρησία. |
| Slavery and the Gospel’s Transforming Power | Critical | 1:11, 1:13, 1:15–16 | The letter’s central social-theological crux: Onesimus named δοῦλος, then “no longer as a slave… but… a brother.” |
| Forgiveness and Reconciliation | Critical | 1:17, 1:18, 1:19 | ἐλλογάω (“charge it to me,” 1:18) — the letter’s substitutionary-satisfaction picture. |
| Grace-Motivated Obedience | High | 1:14, 1:21 | The ἑκούσιον/ἀνάγκη (voluntary/compulsion) contrast is the doctrine’s defining hinge, located entirely within this section. |
| Providence in Suffering and Separation | High | 1:15 | Paul’s reframing of Onesimus’s flight (“perhaps he was separated… for this reason”). |
| Christian Brotherhood across Social Status | High | 1:16 | The doctrine’s climactic statement: Onesimus received “no longer as a slave but… a beloved brother.” |
| Spiritual Fatherhood and New Birth | Medium | 1:10 | Onesimus named Paul’s spiritual “child,” “begotten” in Paul’s chains. |
| Grace as Unmerited Gift (Epistolary Frame) | Critical | (thematically undergirds 1:8–21 though its explicit lexical occurrences are 1:3, 1:22, 1:25) | Grace is the theological ground of Paul’s whole approach in this section even where the word itself is not repeated; must be taught as continuous with 1:3 and 1:25. |
| Christian Partnership and Fellowship | Medium | 1:17 | ”Receive him as you would receive me” — equal-partner status (κοινωνός) applied concretely to Onesimus. |
Coverage confirmation: Section reviewed verse-by-verse (1:8, 1:9, 1:10, 1:11, 1:12, 1:13, 1:14, 1:15, 1:16, 1:17, 1:18, 1:19, 1:20, 1:21). Verse 1:20 (“let me benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ”) is confirmed covered under Thanksgiving and Joy in Ministry (থমোই, refresh) and Christian Brotherhood (vocative “brother,” ἀδελφός, singular direct address requiring native-speaker confirmation per 08_core_glossary.md).
Section 4 — Closing (Philemon 1:22–25)
| Doctrine | Risk | Verses in this section | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grace as Unmerited Gift (Epistolary Frame) | Critical | 1:22, 1:25 | Paul’s own hoped-for release framed via χαρίζομαι (“I will be granted to you”) — grace received even by the apostle himself; closing benediction repeats baseline grace term. |
| Christian Hospitality | Low | 1:22 | Paul’s request for a guest room (ξενία). |
| Christian Partnership and Fellowship | Medium | 1:23–24 | Epaphras, Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke named as “fellow workers/fellow prisoners,” extending the partnership vocabulary to the wider missionary circle. |
| Christian Hospitality | Low | 1:23–24 | Closing greetings (ἀσπάζομαι) reflect ordinary epistolary and Meitei hospitality convention. |
Coverage confirmation: Section reviewed in full. No new doctrine beyond Grace, Partnership, and Hospitality is introduced; all terms in this section are either baseline-reused or already catalogued in 08_core_glossary.md Section B/C (proper names of Paul’s companions).
Full Doctrine Matrix (Whole-Book View)
The table below consolidates the doctrines above across the entire letter, matching doctrine_risk_registry.json exactly in doctrine name, risk tier, and review routing.
| Doctrine | Manipuri Doctrine Name | Risk | Supporting Passages (Philemon) | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Slavery and the Gospel’s Transforming Power | নুংঙাইবগী পাউনা দাসগী থবক হোংহনবা | Critical | 1:11, 1:13, 1:15–16 | দাস (slave) collides with the live, prestigious dasya-bhava servant-devotion path of Manipuri Gaudiya Vaishnavism (a bhakti “servant-mood” toward Krishna, reflected in common devotional name-suffixes). Risk of either (a) হানিং honorific-hearing that mutes the real pain of chattel bondage, or (b) hearing the gospel’s answer as pious relabeling rather than relational transformation. Must teach: social category named honestly; relationship abolished between believers. | Human theologian |
| Forgiveness and Reconciliation | কোকপা অমসুং লোয়শিনবা | Critical | 1:17, 1:18, 1:19 | ἐλλογάω (“charge it to me”) uses the identical legal-ledger/crediting logic as the baseline’s Critical-tier imputed_righteousness doctrine. Must be explicitly cross-referenced to that doctrine so the embodied substitutionary-satisfaction picture is not lost as a mere financial idiom. | Human theologian |
| Grace as Unmerited Gift (Epistolary Frame) | মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং | Critical | 1:3, 1:22, 1:25 | Reuses baseline Grace doctrine unchanged. Must be distinguished from Vaishnava bhakti’s কৃপা (Krishna’s favor, typically responsive to devotee’s devoted service). New angle: Paul frames his own hoped-for release as an act of grace, modeling that grace is received, not earned, even by the apostle. | Human theologian |
| Christian Brotherhood across Social Status | মথৌ তাংবগী মায়োক্তা য়াওদনা ক্রিস্তান ইচিল-ইনাউ ওইবা | High | 1:1–2, 1:7, 1:16, 1:17, 1:20 | ইচিল-ইনাউ (brother/sister kinship vocabulary) is tied concretely to yumnak (clan) lineage and real inheritance obligations in Meitei culture; extending it to a former slave is a culturally radical claim that must be taught directly, not softened to a generic “friend.” Compounded by ἀγάπη’s collision with Vaishnavism’s prema-bhakti (Ras Lila romantic-devotional love). | Human theologian |
| Intercession and Appeal on Behalf of Another | অতোপ্পা মীওইগী মফমদা হায়জবা অমসুং হায়জবা | High | 1:8–10, 1:14, 1:21 | Paul’s deliberate choice of appeal over command, grounded in a relinquished apostolic παρρησία, must never be rendered with শক্তি (reserved for a maibi’s ritual/oracular trance-power, forbidden per baseline). Paul’s own বন্দী (prisoner) status must stay visibly distinct from Onesimus’s দাস (slave) status despite intentional rhetorical echo. | Human theologian |
| Grace-Motivated Obedience | মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাংনা পুক্নিং ওইহনবা ইনবা | High | 1:14, 1:21 | The ἑκούσιον/ἀνάγκη (voluntary/compulsion) contrast is the letter’s ethical hinge and must never be softened; ἑκούσιον must never be reframed as সেবা (bhakti merit-service), mirroring the baseline’s forbidden-substitution logic for obedience_of_faith. | Human theologian |
| Providence in Suffering and Separation | আওবাগী মতমদা তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং | High | 1:15 | Structurally identical to the baseline’s Providence doctrine (Romans 8:28); must not be reheard as ৱাইফম (impersonal fate) making Onesimus’s wrongdoing acceptable or inevitable. God’s personal purposive care works through, but does not excuse, real wrong. | Human theologian |
| Spiritual Fatherhood and New Birth | থাওয়ইগী ইপা ওইবা অমসুং অনৌবা পোকপা | Medium | 1:10 | Paternity metaphor (Onesimus as Paul’s spiritual “child,” “begotten” in chains) is conceptually adjacent to, but distinct from, the baseline’s formal adoption doctrine; Meitei yumnak identity runs through birth lineage, so this must be taught as its own category. | Native speaker review |
| Christian Partnership and Fellowship | ক্রিস্তান থাজবগী লোইনবা | Medium | 1:1–2, 1:4, 1:6, 1:17, 1:23–24 | κοινωνία τῆς πίστεως is active, task-oriented gospel co-labor, not passive clan-based social association; must convey genuinely equal-partner status when applied to Onesimus (1:17). | Native speaker review |
| House Church as God’s People | যুমদা লেপ্পা কলিসিয়া তেংবাং মপুগী মীওইশিং ওইনা | Medium | 1:2, 1:5, 1:7 | Extends the baseline’s Church doctrine; must not be pictured as a মন্দির (Vaishnava temple) or Umang Lai sacred grove — this is an early, pre-institutional household gathering, and the setting in which Onesimus’s reception is publicly tested. | Native speaker review |
| Gospel Proclamation amid Suffering | ওৎপা মতমদা নুংঙাইবগী পাউ সন্দোকপা | Medium | 1:1, 1:9, 1:13 | Imprisonment is named as belonging to the gospel itself (“chains of the gospel,” 1:13) — an identity marker, not misfortune. বন্দী (prisoner) must read as a badge of gospel faithfulness, kept distinct from দাস (slave). | Native speaker review |
| Thanksgiving and Joy in Ministry | সেবাগী থৌদাংদা থাগৎচরি অমসুং হরাওবা | Medium | 1:4, 1:7, 1:20 | হরাওবা (joy) is also the literal root of “Lai Haraoba,” the major Umang Lai festival name involving maibi trance-dance. Gospel-fruit joy over love-in-action must be distinguished from festival merrymaking or ritual ecstasy via explicit translator note. | Native speaker review |
| Christian Hospitality | ক্রিস্তান ওকপা-থোকপগী থৌদাং | Low | 1:22, 1:23–24 | Paul’s guest-room request and closing greetings find natural resonance with existing Meitei hospitality customs; minimal doctrinal-collision risk. | Automated review |

Explicit note on chapter scope: Philemon consists of a single chapter (1:1–25). No further chapters exist in this book; the checklist above therefore constitutes complete full-book coverage as mandated, with the core passage (1:8–21) serving as the theological anchor rather than the boundary of review.

Cross-References to the Romans Baseline
The following doctrines carry directly from the Romans baseline and are reused, not re-derived, in Philemon:
- Grace (Critical) — baseline term মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং reused exactly; Philemon adds the epistolary-frame angle (Paul’s own release as grace) and the χαρίζομαι wordplay in 1:22.
- Faith (High) — baseline term থাজবা reused exactly in 1:5–6, underlying Christian Partnership and Fellowship.
- Saints (High) — baseline term অসেংবা মীওই reused exactly in 1:5, 1:7, underlying House Church as God’s People.
- Imputed Righteousness (Critical) — baseline doctrine and term পীথোকপা অচুম্বা চৎনবিরাক provide the direct doctrinal precedent for ἐλλογάω in Forgiveness and Reconciliation (1:18); this cross-reference must be made explicit in Phase 2 teaching notes.
- Obedience of Faith (High) — baseline term থাজবগী ইনবা and its forbidden-substitution logic (never সেবা) directly informs Grace-Motivated Obedience’s treatment of ἑκούσιον/ἀνάγκη.
- Providence (High) — baseline doctrine and term তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং, including its explicit warning against ৱাইফম (fate), is directly reused for Providence in Suffering and Separation (1:15).
- Power of God (High, baseline) — the baseline’s শক্তি-forbidden-substitution rule for God’s power is extended here to govern Paul’s παρρησία in Intercession and Appeal, ensuring Paul’s relinquished apostolic authority is never rendered as maibi-style trance-power.
No doctrine in this analysis contradicts baseline risk tiers, forbidden substitutions, or established renderings. All new terms proposed in 08_core_glossary.md remain pending theologian/native-speaker confirmation per the escalation rules in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md before entering translation_memory.json as locked entries.
Critical Risk Doctrines
Slavery and the Gospel’s Transforming Power
Manipuri name: নুংঙাইবগী পাউনা দাসগী থবক হোংহনবা
Key terms: slave, useless_useful, benefit_profit, flesh, minister_serve
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: the doctrine’s key term দাস (slave) collides directly with Manipuri Gaudiya Vaishnavism’s live, prestigious dasya-bhava devotional self-designation (the bhakti “servant-mood” toward Krishna, reflected in common devotional name-suffixes). Without explicit teaching, Meitei readers may hear দাস either as spiritually honorific rather than as real, painful chattel bondage, or may hear the gospel’s answer as merely relabeling that bondage piously rather than transforming the relationship itself. The doctrine must be taught as: the social category of slavery is named honestly and not minimized, while the gospel declares it relationally abolished between believers (“no longer as a slave… but a brother,” 1:16).
Forgiveness and Reconciliation
Manipuri name: কোকপা অমসুং লোয়শিনবা
Key terms: impute_charge_to_account, wronged, owe_debt, owe_besides, repay, receive_welcome
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: ἐλλογάω (“charge it to me,” 1:18) uses the identical legal-ledger/crediting logic already established as Critical in the Romans baseline’s imputed_righteousness doctrine (পীথোকপা অচুম্বা চৎনবিরাক). If rendered as a merely incidental financial idiom rather than cross-referenced explicitly to that imputation doctrine, Meitei learners lose the letter’s embodied, real-life picture of substitutionary satisfaction — Paul personally absorbing another’s debt. This connection must be taught explicitly, not left implicit.
Grace as Unmerited Gift (Epistolary Frame)
Manipuri name: মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং
Key terms: grace, grant_as_favor
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL (reuses the Romans baseline’s Grace doctrine, Critical tier, unchanged): grace opens and closes this letter and undergirds Paul’s own wordplay in 1:22 (χαρίζομαι, “I will be granted to you”). As in Romans, this unmerited favor must be distinguished from Vaishnava bhakti’s কৃপা (Krishna’s favor, typically responsive to a devotee’s devoted service). Philemon adds a fresh angle: Paul frames his own hoped-for release as an act of grace, modeling that grace is received, not earned, even by the apostle himself.
High Risk Doctrines
Christian Brotherhood across Social Status
Manipuri name: মথৌ তাংবগী মায়োক্তা য়াওদনা ক্রিস্তান ইচিল-ইনাউ ওইবা
Key terms: brother, sister, beloved, love, partner_and_partnership_of_faith, house_church
Review routing: Human theologian
HIGH: Meitei kinship vocabulary (ইচিল-ইনাউ) is tied concretely to yumnak (clan) lineage and real inheritance obligations, not merely to affectionate address. Extending this vocabulary to a former slave, as Philemon 1:16 does explicitly, is a culturally radical claim of full kinship-status that must be taught directly rather than softened into a generic “friend” term, which would blunt the doctrine’s actual force. This risk is compounded by the ἀγάπη (love) term’s own collision with Manipuri Vaishnavism’s prema-bhakti (Krishna-Radha romantic-devotional love, enacted in the UNESCO-recognized Ras Lila tradition) — Philemon’s brotherhood-creating love must be taught as covenantal and action-expressed, not romantic-devotional.
Intercession and Appeal on Behalf of Another
Manipuri name: অতোপ্পা মীওইগী মফমদা হায়জবা অমসুং হায়জবা
Key terms: prisoner, boldness_to_command, command, fitting_duty, obedience_interpersonal, fellow_prisoner
Review routing: Human theologian
HIGH: the doctrine turns on Paul’s deliberate choice of appeal (παρακαλῶ) over command (ἐπιτάσσω), grounded in a real but set-aside apostolic standing (παρρησία). This standing must never be rendered with শক্তি, the term reserved for a maibi’s ritual/oracular trance-power (forbidden per baseline), which would recast Paul’s authority as a kind of possession-derived spiritual force rather than a relinquished apostolic right. Paul’s own status as বন্দী (prisoner) must also be kept visibly distinct from Onesimus’s দাস (slave) status despite the letter’s intentional rhetorical echo between the two, since conflating them would misrepresent Paul as legally enslaved.
Grace-Motivated Obedience
Manipuri name: মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাংনা পুক্নিং ওইহনবা ইনবা
Key terms: voluntary, compulsion, consent, good_deed, obedience_interpersonal
Review routing: Human theologian
HIGH: the doctrine’s positive-negative contrast (ἑκούσιον, freely willed, vs. ἀνάγκη, compulsion) is the letter’s ethical hinge and must never be softened. ἑκούσιον must never be reframed as সেবা, the term for ritual devotional service performed to build bhakti standing with Krishna in Manipuri Vaishnavism — the same forbidden-substitution logic already established in the baseline’s obedience_of_faith entry applies here with equal force, since Philemon’s decision toward Onesimus is being explicitly protected from becoming an act of religious merit-accumulation rather than grace-born love.
Providence in Suffering and Separation
Manipuri name: আওবাগী মতমদা তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং
Key terms: separated, forever, have_in_full, chains
Review routing: Human theologian
HIGH: Paul’s reframing of Onesimus’s flight (“perhaps he was separated from you for this reason…”) is a providential claim structurally identical to the baseline’s Providence doctrine (Romans 8:28, তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং), which explicitly warns against being reheard as ৱাইফম (impersonal fate). The same risk applies here: Philemon 1:15 must be taught as God’s personal, purposive care working through a real wrong Paul does not excuse, not as impersonal destiny making the wrongdoing acceptable or inevitable.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Spiritual Fatherhood and New Birth
Manipuri name: থাওয়ইগী ইপা ওইবা অমসুং অনৌবা পোকপা
Key terms: spiritual_child
Review routing: Native speaker review
MEDIUM: Onesimus is named Paul’s spiritual “child,” “begotten” in Paul’s chains. This paternity metaphor is conceptually adjacent to, but distinct from, the baseline’s adoption doctrine (মচা ওইনা লৌবা). Since Meitei yumnak (clan) identity and inheritance run through birth lineage, this spiritual fatherhood language should be taught as its own distinct category, not assumed as a ready cultural equivalent to blood sonship or to the baseline’s formal adoption doctrine.
Christian Partnership and Fellowship
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তান থাজবগী লোইনবা
Key terms: partner_and_partnership_of_faith, fellow_worker, fellow_soldier, prayer_general
Review routing: Native speaker review
MEDIUM: κοινωνία τῆς πίστεως (“the partnership that comes from your faith,” 1:6) is active, task-oriented gospel co-labor, not passive social camaraderie. Must be distinguished from general clan-based or social association familiar in Meitei community life, and must convey genuinely equal-partner status when applied to Onesimus’s reception (1:17).
The House Church as God’s People
Manipuri name: যুমদা লেপ্পা কলিসিয়া তেংবাং মপুগী মীওইশিং ওইনা
Key terms: house_church, church, saints
Review routing: Native speaker review
MEDIUM (extends the baseline’s Church as God’s People doctrine): the congregation meeting in Philemon’s own house is precisely the public setting in which the drama of receiving Onesimus back “as a brother” is to be tested. Must not be pictured on the model of a মন্দির (Vaishnava temple) or an Umang Lai sacred-grove worship site, per the baseline’s existing church guidance; this is an early, pre-institutional gathering, not a fixed ritual site.
Gospel Proclamation amid Suffering
Manipuri name: ওৎপা মতমদা নুংঙাইবগী পাউ সন্দোকপা
Key terms: prisoner, chains, gospel
Review routing: Native speaker review
MEDIUM: Paul’s imprisonment is repeatedly named as belonging to the gospel itself (“chains of the gospel,” 1:13) — an identity marker, not mere misfortune. Care is needed that বন্দী (prisoner) reads as a badge of gospel faithfulness in this context, not as an ordinary criminal designation, and is kept distinct from দাস (slave), a related but legally and theologically different category.
Thanksgiving and Joy in Ministry
Manipuri name: সেবাগী থৌদাংদা থাগৎচরি অমসুং হরাওবা
Key terms: joy, heart_inmost_affection, refresh, thanksgiving
Review routing: Native speaker review
MEDIUM: হরাওবা (joy) is the ordinary Meitei word for joy/rejoicing and is also the literal root of “Lai Haraoba,” the major Umang Lai festival name featuring the maibi’s ritual trance dance. The joy in view in Philemon is joy over gospel-fruit and love expressed in action (Philemon’s care for the saints, Paul’s own anticipated benefit from Onesimus), not festival merrymaking or ritual ecstasy; translator notes should make this distinction explicit rather than leave it to default association.
Low Risk Doctrines
Christian Hospitality
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তান ওকপা-থোকপগী থৌদাং
Key terms: guest_room, greet
Review routing: Automated review
LOW: Paul’s request for a guest room and the epistolary greetings closing the letter find natural resonance with existing Meitei hospitality customs; minimal doctrinal-collision risk.
