Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — Matthew 1–28 (English → Manipuri)
This document is the full doctrine matrix for the Matthew curriculum, extending the Romans baseline without contradiction and matching doctrine_risk_registry.json exactly — same doctrines, same risk tiers, same review routing. Section A gives the master doctrine matrix (the doctrine-level view used for Phase 2 routing). Section B walks the matrix across every chapter of Matthew, first to last, so that full-book coverage is verifiable: every chapter is explicitly accounted for, including chapters that primarily carry forward doctrines already introduced rather than establishing new ones. The core passage, Matthew 5:1-12 (the Beatitudes), is the theological anchor of the curriculum but not its scope boundary.
Manipuri’s comparative-religion landscape remains, as in the Romans baseline, a live dual system: Sanamahism (Sanamahi, Pakhangba, the Umang Lai forest deities honored through Lai Haraoba and its maibi trance-priestesses, currently undergoing active revival) and Gaudiya Vaishnavism (Krishna-Radha devotion expressed through the Ras Lila dance tradition, avatar theology, and bhakti practice). Matthew introduces collision points beyond Romans: kingdom-of-heaven vs. svarga cosmology, Son of Man/Son of David vs. avatar and Pakhangba-descent kingship, demon vocabulary vs. the populated Umang Lai/ancestral-spirit world, parable vs. Ras Lila/katha storytelling, scribes/Pharisees/priests vs. Brahmin and maiba/maibi ritual-specialist categories, and “make disciples” vs. guru-śiṣya devotional discipleship.

| 10 | Incarnation | Critical | মীওইগী মহৈ লৌবা | 1:18-25 | Virgin conception never glossed with অবতার-adjacent language implying temporary/repeatable divine visitation; the eternal Son’s permanent, unique assumption of human nature vs. Ras Lila avatar-descent celebration. | Human theologian |

| 13 | Baptism | Critical | বাপ্তিস্মাগী থৌদাং | 3:1-17; 28:19 | Sharply distinguished from Vaishnava ritual bathing (snana) and Sanamahi purification washing; one-time sign of repentance/union with Christ, not a repeatable purificatory rite. | Human theologian |

| 25 | Unity of Jews and Gentiles | High | জুহুদী অমসুং অতোপ্পা ফুরুপশিংগী অমত্তা ওইবা | 8:5-13; 15:21-28; 28:19 | Taught with theological clarity, not mapped onto contemporary Manipur inter-community ethnic relations; universal scope not softened. | Human theologian |
| 26 | Prayer | Medium | হায়জবগী থৌদাং | 5:44; 6:5-15 | Direct, filial access to God the Father through Christ; distinguished from petitions carried to the Umang Lai through a maibi or maiba. | Native speaker review |
| 27 | Grace Exceeding Merit | Critical | মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং অমসুং থৌওংগী মরাল্লোন | 20:1-16 | Clearest Matthean text for unmerited grace against bhakti-responsive কৃপা (favor understood as responsive to seva, devoted service). | Human theologian |

| 29 | Divine Calling and Election | High | কৌবা অমসুং খনবগী থৌদাং | 4:18-22; 22:14; 24:22,24,31 | Distinguished from a maibi ritually seized/called by an Umang Lai deity in Lai Haraoba trance, and from ৱাইফম-style fate or Pakhangba-descent royal selection. | Human theologian |

Tier totals (matching doctrine_risk_registry.json): Critical — 19 doctrines; High — 9 doctrines; Medium — 2 doctrines; Low — 0 doctrines. All Critical and High doctrines route to human theologian review; both Medium doctrines route to native speaker review, consistent with the registry’s review_routing field for each entry.
Section B: Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrine Coverage (Matthew 1–28)
Every chapter of Matthew is listed below with the doctrines from Section A that are actively load-bearing in that chapter, the specific translation risk in play, and the review routing inherited from the doctrine’s tier. Where a chapter carries forward doctrine already fully documented at an earlier chapter without introducing new translation risk, this is stated explicitly rather than omitted.
| Ch. | Passage Focus | Doctrines Active | Risk | Chapter-Specific Translation Risk Note | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Genealogy; virgin conception; naming of Jesus | #10 Incarnation; #2 Messiah/Son of David; #3 Fulfillment of Prophecy | Critical | 1:1-17 establishes দাউদগী চা-চাহি/দাউদগী মচানুপা lineage language, requiring OT covenant background so it is not read as a Pakhangba-descent genealogical claim; 1:18-25 is the book’s first Incarnation passage (শেংবা নুপীমচা, ইম্মানুএল) and must never be glossed with অবতার language. | Human theologian |
| 2 | Magi; flight to Egypt; Herod’s massacre; Nazareth | #3 Fulfillment of Prophecy; #19 Worship of Christ; #29 Divine Calling (introductory, angelic guidance of Joseph) | Critical | 2:2,11 magi খুরুমজবা must be confirmed as worship of the promised King, not generic court-obeisance; four fulfillment formulas (2:15,17,23) must render মপুং ফাহনবা identically. | Human theologian |
| 3 | John the Baptist; Jesus’ baptism | #13 Baptism; #14 Repentance; #1 Kingdom of Heaven (announced); #11 Deity/Sonship (3:17 Father’s declaration) | Critical | 3:1-17 is the book’s foundational Baptism passage — must be sharply distinguished from snana/purificatory washing; 3:17’s Trinitarian voice anticipates 28:19’s baptismal formula and must use identical Father/Son/Spirit vocabulary. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Temptation; call of first disciples; early ministry | #15 Spiritual Warfare (temptation narrative); #29 Divine Calling (4:18-22); #1 Kingdom of Heaven (4:17, “repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”) | Critical | 4:1-11 is the book’s first sustained Satan/demon passage — establish সয়তান as categorically distinct from Umang Lai from this first occurrence onward; 4:18-22 calling language (কৌখিবা) must avoid guru-śiṣya recruitment overtones. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Sermon on the Mount, part 1: Beatitudes; salt/light; Law fulfilled; six antitheses | #16 Beatitudes (core passage, 5:1-12); #1 Kingdom of Heaven; #5 Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees; #17 Sabbath and the Law (5:17-19 only; Sabbath controversy proper is ch.12) | Critical | This is the curriculum’s theological anchor chapter. তেংবাং মপুনা নুংঙাইহনবা must never render as ধন্য; 5:20 is the chapter’s clearest Critical-risk sentence, requiring অচুম্বা চৎনবিরাক framed as internal/Spirit-produced, never external legal performance. | Human theologian |
| 6 | Sermon on the Mount, part 2: giving, prayer (Lord’s Prayer), fasting, treasure, anxiety | #26 Prayer; #5 Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (hypocrite critique, 6:1-18); #1 Kingdom of Heaven (6:10,33) | Critical / Medium | 6:9-13 Lord’s Prayer requires filial-access framing distinct from petitions carried to the Umang Lai by a maibi; 6:12,14-15 forgiveness language (see #20, fully active from ch.18) is introduced here and must avoid a karma-debt reading. | Human theologian (6:1-18, 6:33); Native speaker (6:5-15 prayer) |
| 7 | Sermon on the Mount, part 3: judging, narrow gate, false prophets, wise/foolish builders | #8 Judgment and the End of the Age (narrow gate, false prophets, 7:13-23); #4 Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (7:28-29, chapter-closing authority statement) | Critical | 7:28-29 is the first of the book’s authority-formula verses (ঠাকফম), establishing the pattern completed at 28:18; must read as inherent, not derived from scribal tradition. | Human theologian |
| 8 | Healing of leper, centurion’s servant, storm, Gadarene demoniacs | #19 Worship of Christ (8:2); #25 Unity of Jews and Gentiles (centurion, 8:5-13); #12 Son of Man (8:20); #15 Spiritual Warfare (8:28-34) | Critical | 8:5-13 centurion’s faith is a key Unity-of-Jews-and-Gentiles text — must not be mapped onto contemporary Manipur inter-community relations; 8:28-34 demoniacs passage requires অশিবা থাওয়াই, never লাই-root vocabulary. | Human theologian |
| 9 | Paralytic forgiven/healed; call of Matthew; new wine; Jairus’ daughter; two blind men | #20 Forgiveness (9:2-6, introductory); #12 Son of Man (9:6); #4 Authority (9:6,8); #2 Messiah/Son of David (9:27) | High/Critical | 9:2-6 pairs forgiveness and healing to demonstrate Son of Man authority — the forensic, relational sense of forgiveness (not karma-debt) must be established here for consistency through ch.18. | Human theologian |
| 10 | Commissioning of the Twelve; mission instructions; persecution warnings | #29 Divine Calling/Apostleship (10:1-4); #15 Spiritual Warfare (10:1,8, authority over demons); #9 Discipleship and Cost (10:37-39) | Critical/High | 10:1,8 anticipates the Great Commission’s authority-delegation pattern; 10:37-39 is the chapter’s clearest Discipleship-cost text and must read as direct personal allegiance to Jesus, not guru-śiṣya lineage initiation. | Human theologian |
| 11 | John the Baptist’s question; woes on unrepentant cities; “come to me” invitation | #14 Repentance (11:20-21); #1 Kingdom of Heaven (11:11-12); rest/kingdom invitation (11:28-29, term-level entry, not a separate registry doctrine but feeds #1) | High | 11:28-29 “rest” (পোৎথাবা) must be taught as relational rest with a personal God, not moksha-style absorption-rest; reinforces Kingdom of Heaven’s re-anchoring away from svarga cosmology. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Sabbath controversies; Beelzebul controversy; blasphemy against the Spirit; sign of Jonah | #17 Sabbath and the Law (12:1-14); #15 Spiritual Warfare (Beelzebul controversy, 12:22-29); #30 Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit (12:31-32); #12 Son of Man (12:8, “Lord of the Sabbath”) | Critical | 12:31-32 is the registry’s sole home for Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit — থাওয়াই অসেংবা must appear in full, and the doctrine must be taught precisely as persistent willful rejection, not vaguely, to avoid pastoral misapplication. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Parables of the kingdom (sower, weeds, mustard seed, leaven, hidden treasure, pearl, net) | #18 Parables and Kingdom Revelation (13:1-52); #8 Judgment and End of Age (weeds/net explanations, 13:36-43,49-50); #1 Kingdom of Heaven | High/Critical | The chapter’s ~8 kingdom-parables require ওয়ারী-পান্দম framing distinguished from Ras Lila katha/lila and ordinary phunga wari folktales; the weeds/net parables introduce end-of-age judgment imagery reused in ch.24-25. | Human theologian |
| 14 | Death of John the Baptist; feeding of 5,000; walking on water | #19 Worship of Christ (14:33); #11 Deity/Sonship of Christ (14:33, “Truly you are the Son of God”) | Critical | 14:33 is a key worship-confession passage — খুরুমজবা here must be confirmed as full, exclusive worship prompted by a divine-nature confession, not courtly respect for a wonder-worker. | Human theologian |
| 15 | Tradition of the elders; Canaanite woman’s faith; feeding of 4,000 | #5 Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (15:1-20, heart vs. ritual purity); #25 Unity of Jews and Gentiles (Canaanite woman, 15:21-28) | High | 15:1-20 is the registry’s key text for distinguishing শেংবা (ritual purity) from অসেংবা (moral/relational holiness) — must be taught explicitly, not assumed. | Human theologian |
| 16 | Sign-seeking; Peter’s confession; first Passion prediction; cost of discipleship | #2 Messiah/Son of David (16:16, Peter’s confession); #6 Church and Church Discipline (16:16-19, keys); #9 Discipleship and Cost (16:24-26); #12 Son of Man (16:13,27-28) | Critical | 16:16-19 is the founding Church-and-Discipline passage — পিতর/নুংশিত্ wordplay must frame the rock as Peter’s confession of Christ, not personal ecclesial supremacy; keys/bind-loose language must avoid any ritual/magical binding connotation associated with maiba/maibi practice. | Human theologian |
| 17 | Transfiguration; second Passion prediction; temple tax | #11 Deity/Sonship of Christ (17:5, “This is my beloved Son”); #12 Son of Man (17:22, suffering prediction) | Critical | 17:5 echoes 3:17’s Father’s declaration and must use identical তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা phrasing for cross-chapter consistency. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Church discipline procedure; parable of the unforgiving servant | #6 Church and Church Discipline (18:15-20, bind/loose); #20 Forgiveness (18:21-35, full doctrinal treatment) | Critical/High | 18:15-20 completes the bind/loose doctrine begun at 16:19 — must use identical থোংগী চাবী/পুননবা/ৱাখোকপা phrasing; 18:21-35 is the registry’s central Forgiveness text and must avoid karma-debt framing (repayment through future rebirth). | Human theologian |
| 19 | Divorce and marriage teaching; rich young ruler; rewards of discipleship | #21 Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment (19:16,29, first occurrence); #9 Discipleship and Cost (19:27-29) | Critical | 19:16,29 introduces লোমননা হিংবা — must be established from this first occurrence as final and eternal, not moksha or cyclical, for consistency through ch.25. | Human theologian |
| 20 | Parable of the vineyard workers; third Passion prediction; ransom saying; blind men healed | #27 Grace Exceeding Merit (20:1-16, full doctrinal treatment); #22 Atonement as Ransom (20:28, first occurrence); #2 Messiah/Son of David (20:30-31) | Critical | 20:1-16 is the registry’s clearest Matthean grace-vs-merit text — must resist a bhakti-responsive কৃপা reading in which the workers’ differing labor “earns” differing favor; 20:28’s ransom (মরি পীবা) must read as substitutionary payment, not bhakti self-offering. | Human theologian |
| 21 | Triumphal entry; temple cleansing; cursing the fig tree; parable of tenants | #2 Messiah/Son of David (21:9,15, “Hosanna to the Son of David”); #28 Temple and Old Covenant Fulfillment (21:12-13); #4 Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (21:23-27, authority questioned) | Critical/High | 21:12-13 introduces temple doctrine — তেংবাং মপুগী সাং must be kept categorically distinct from মন্দির (Vaishnava image-temple); 21:23-27 sets up the authority-question thread resolved decisively at 28:18. | Human theologian |
| 22 | Parable of the wedding feast; taxes to Caesar; resurrection debate; Great Commandment; whose son is the Christ | #29 Divine Calling and Election (22:14, “many are called but few are chosen”); #2 Messiah/Son of David (22:41-45, David’s Lord); love/Great Commandment (feeds #5 Righteousness, term-level) | High | 22:41-45 is the sharpest Son-of-David/deity paradox text in the book (David’s son yet David’s Lord) — must be preserved as an intentional theological puzzle resolving in Christ’s full deity, not softened. | Human theologian |
| 23 | Woes against the scribes and Pharisees | #5 Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees (23:1-36, full hypocrisy critique) | High | Sustained hypocrite (মিত মায় তানবা মীওই) vocabulary across seven woes must critique insincerity specifically, never generalized to Brahmin priestly specialists or Sanamahi maiba/maibi as classes. | Human theologian |
| 24 | Olivet Discourse, part 1: signs of the end, abomination of desolation, coming of the Son of Man | #8 Judgment and End of Age; #24 Second Coming/Parousia (24:3,27,30,37,39, first sustained treatment); #29 Divine Calling and Election (24:22,24,31, “the elect”) | Critical | This chapter is the doctrinal center of Second Coming/Parousia — Christ’s return must read as unique and final, never hinting at a further avatar-descent within an open Vaishnava sequence; “the elect” (খনরবা) must reuse the baseline election root. | Human theologian |
| 25 | Parables of the ten virgins, the talents, and the sheep and the goats | #8 Judgment and End of Age (25:31-46, full doctrinal treatment); #21 Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment (25:41,46); #24 Second Coming (25:31) | Critical | 25:31-46 is the registry’s fullest final-judgment text — personal divine tribunal (ৱায়েল থীবা) must be kept distinct from impersonal karma; গেহেন্না/লোমননা করকপা must never suggest a temporary naraka preceding rebirth. | Human theologian |
| 26 | Anointing at Bethany; Last Supper; Gethsemane; betrayal; arrest; trial before Caiaphas | #23 The Lord’s Supper (26:26-29); #22 Atonement as Ransom (26:26-28, “blood of the covenant”); #12 Son of Man (26:64) | Critical | 26:26-29 must be kept categorically distinct from prasad food-exchange; হাক্চাং/ঈ (ৱারেপ্পাগী) commemorates a one-time atoning death, not an ongoing devotional exchange with a deity. | Human theologian |
| 27 | Trial before Pilate; crucifixion; death; burial | #22 Atonement as Ransom (27:22-50, crucifixion as the atonement’s historical center); #3 Fulfillment of Prophecy (27:9); #11 Deity/Sonship of Christ (27:54, centurion’s confession); #28 Temple (27:51, curtain torn) | Critical | 27:51’s torn curtain completes the Temple/Old-Covenant-Fulfillment doctrine begun at 21:12-13 — the old covenant’s unique meeting place gives way to the church, not to a subsequent physical shrine. | Human theologian |
| 28 | Resurrection; appearances; Great Commission | #19 Worship of Christ (28:9,17); #4 Authority of Jesus’ Teaching (28:18, climactic “all authority”); #7 The Great Commission (28:16-20); #13 Baptism (28:19, Trinitarian formula) | Critical | This is the book’s doctrinal capstone chapter: 28:18’s unqualified universal authority claim must not be softened; 28:19’s baptismal formula must appear in full, unabbreviated Father/Son/Holy-Spirit form; the Commission must be framed as the church’s own calling, not a colonial or ethnically-coded project, given Manipur’s historical mission-work associations. | Human theologian |
Notes for Phase 2 Routing
- All 19 Critical-tier doctrines and 9 High-tier doctrines in Section A require human theologian review for every flagged segment, per the escalation rules already established in the Romans
12_ai_translation_requirements.mdand carried forward unchanged for Matthew. - The 2 Medium-tier doctrines (Sabbath and the Law; Prayer) require native speaker review; note that Prayer’s two supporting passages (5:44; 6:5-15) sit inside the core passage’s surrounding chapter (ch.5-6) and should be reviewed alongside the Beatitudes’ Critical-tier material even though Prayer itself routes to native speaker review.
- No doctrine in this registry is Low-risk; this reflects Matthew’s unusually high concentration of Christological, eschatological, and ecclesiological material relative to Romans’ more evenly distributed risk profile.
- Every chapter of Matthew (1–28) is represented above; no chapter was found to contribute zero doctrinal content, consistent with Matthew’s density as a narrative-plus-discourse Gospel. Chapters that primarily carry forward an already-established doctrine (e.g., ch. 6’s forgiveness introduction ahead of ch. 18’s full treatment; ch. 17’s Sonship echo of ch. 3) are marked accordingly above rather than treated as new doctrinal territory.

Critical Risk Doctrines
The Kingdom of Heaven
Manipuri name: তেংবাং মপুগী লৈপাক
Key terms: kingdom of heaven, kingdom of God, heaven
Review routing: Human theologian
Matthew’s characteristic phrase (~32 uses) is deliberately rendered identically to ‘kingdom of God’ rather than coined with a literal স্বর্গ-compound, which would carry strong Vaishnava associations with svarga, a merit-attained paradise realm, or with the devotee’s hoped-for eternal nearness to Krishna in Vaikuntha/Goloka. Every occurrence of standalone স্বর্গ requires re-anchoring as God’s dwelling/throne, not a merit-attained cosmological realm.
Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী ৱাশাক্না অমসুং দাউদগী মচানুপা
Key terms: messiah, christ, son of David, seed of David
Review routing: Human theologian
The Davidic-covenant messianic title must not be read through the lens of Meitei royal-divine lineage claims (the historic Pakhangba-descent kingship ideology), a non-covenantal category of royal legitimacy, nor presented as one figure among Vishnu’s recognized avatar sequence culminating, in some Vaishnava schemes, with Krishna.
Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy
Manipuri name: ফোংদোকপা ৱারোলগী মপুং ফাবা
Key terms: fulfilled, it was written, prophet, prophecy
Review routing: Human theologian
Linear, historical, one-time fulfillment (Old Testament promise to New Testament fulfillment in Christ), rendered identically at every fulfillment-formula occurrence for consistency; must not be taught as a repeatable cyclical avatar-sequence pattern, in which further divine descents remain conceptually open within Vaishnava theology.
The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী তাকপগী ঠাকফম
Key terms: authority, taught as one having authority, all authority in heaven and on earth
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’s ঠাকফম is inherent and self-authenticating, unlike the derivative authority of scribes (resting on tradition), Brahmin pandits (resting on scripture-lineage), or a maiba/maibi (resting on ritual training/office); climaxes at 28:18 with unqualified universal scope, which must be preserved without softening.
The Church and Church Discipline
Manipuri name: কলিসিয়া অমসুং কলিসিয়াগী চেকশিন থৌদাং
Key terms: church, bind and loose, keys of the kingdom, Peter/rock
Review routing: Human theologian
কলিসিয়া must remain clearly distinct from মন্দির (Vaishnava temple) and the Umang Lai sacred grove; delegated declarative bind/loose authority is not ritual/magical binding power exercised by a maiba or maibi over spirits; Peter’s ‘rock’ status must be framed via his confession of Christ, not personal ecclesial supremacy, given this text’s contested reception even within Christian tradition.
The Great Commission
Manipuri name: পাউ সন্দোকপগী য়ারিবা থৌদাং
Key terms: make disciples, all nations, baptizing, teaching them to obey, I am with you always
Review routing: Human theologian
Must be framed as the church’s own calling, not a foreign or ethnically-coded colonial project, given the historical entanglement of mission work with colonial-era administration and sensitive inter-community relations within Manipur; discipleship-making must also be distinguished from the guru-śiṣya devotional discipleship-recruitment pattern of Vaishnava bhakti lineages. The Trinitarian baptismal formula (Father/Son/Holy Spirit) must appear in its established baseline form with no abbreviation.
Judgment and the End of the Age
Manipuri name: ৱায়েল থীবা অমসুং তাইবাংপানগী মায়োক্তুংবা
Key terms: end of the age, judgment, eternal fire, Gehenna, parousia/second coming
Review routing: Human theologian
Must be taught as a strictly linear, final judgment by a personal Judge, in explicit contrast to any cyclical yuga/kalpa world-age-renewal framework in Hindu cosmology and to impersonal karma-based retribution; গেহেন্না must never be রেন্ডার্ড as নরক, which implies temporary punishment preceding further reincarnation.
Incarnation
Manipuri name: মীওইগী মহৈ লৌবা
Key terms: virgin, Immanuel, conceived by the Holy Spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
The virgin conception must never be glossed with অবতার-adjacent language implying a temporary or repeatable divine visitation; the eternal Son’s permanent, unique assumption of human nature must be distinguished from the Ras Lila devotional dance tradition’s celebration of Krishna’s avatar-descents.
Deity and Sonship of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী তেংবাং মপু অমসুং মচানুপা ওইবা
Key terms: Son of God, worship, declared/confessed to be God’s Son
Review routing: Human theologian
Must never be softened into ‘a great avatar’ or a specially favored spirit within any pantheon; every προσκυνέω occurrence directed at Jesus must be confirmed as full, exclusive worship, not flattened into ordinary খুরুমজবা courtesy nor mistaken for image-veneration in Vaishnava temple practice.
The Son of Man Title
Manipuri name: মীওইগী মচানুপা ওইবগী মিং
Key terms: Son of Man
Review routing: Human theologian
Matthew’s single most theologically dense Christological title (~30 uses), combining Daniel 7’s exalted authority with genuine humanity; must be kept lexically and visually distinct from Son of God (তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা vs. মীওইগী মচানুপা) and never treated as a lesser or merely-human title.
Baptism
Manipuri name: বাপ্তিস্মাগী থৌদাং
Key terms: baptize, baptism, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
Christian baptism must be sharply distinguished from ritual bathing (snana) at sacred rivers/tanks in Vaishnava devotional practice and from Sanamahi ritual purification washing; it is a one-time sign of repentance and union with Christ, not a repeatable purificatory rite.
Spiritual Warfare: Satan and Demons
Manipuri name: সয়তান অমসুং অশিবা থাওয়াইশিংগী মতাংদা
Key terms: devil, Satan, demon, unclean spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
The single highest-collision doctrine in the book: সয়তান and অশিবা থাওয়াই must never use লাই-root vocabulary or be confused with the honored Umang Lai (Sanamahi forest/guardian deities) or revered ancestral spirits (Apokpa); demons are categorically hostile and evil, a distinction absent from the honor typically accorded spirits in the populated Sanamahi spirit-world.
Worship of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোবু খুরুমজবগী থৌদাং
Key terms: worship, proskyneo, fell down and worshiped
Review routing: Human theologian
Manipuri খুরুমজবা is the everyday gesture of respect shown to elders, the historic Meitei king, or a deity’s image in temple worship; every occurrence directed at Jesus must be confirmed as full, exclusive religious worship, not flattened into social courtesy or mistaken for image-veneration paralleling Vaishnava temple practice.
Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment
Manipuri name: লোমননা হিংবা অমসুং লোমননা করকপগী থৌদাং
Key terms: eternal life, eternal punishment, eternal fire
Review routing: Human theologian
Both outcomes are final and eternal, a strict binary contrasted explicitly against any temporary, cyclical Hindu naraka/rebirth framework; eternal life must not be conflated with moksha or a bhakti devotee’s hoped-for eternal nearness to Krishna in Vaikuntha/Goloka.
Atonement as Ransom
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী মরি পীবগী থৌদাং
Key terms: ransom, blood of the covenant, crucify
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s substitutionary, historical, singular atoning payment for sin must be distinguished from any bhakti framework of a devotee’s self-offering to a deity, or from Vaishnava lila in which Krishna’s self-giving is enacted devotionally rather than presented as a one-time historical payment.
The Lord’s Supper
Manipuri name: মপু ইবুংগোগী চানবগী থৌদাং
Key terms: this is my body, blood of the covenant
Review routing: Human theologian
Must be clearly distinguished from prasad, food ritually offered to and returned from a deity’s image in Vaishnava practice; the Lord’s Supper commemorates Christ’s own atoning death once for all, not an ongoing devotional food-exchange with a deity.
The Second Coming
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী অমুক লাক্লগনি থৌদাং
Key terms: coming of the Son of Man, parousia, sign of his coming
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s return must be taught as his own unique, final coming — never framed in a way that could be heard as anticipating a further avatar-descent within an open-ended Vaishnava avatar sequence; there is one incarnation and one final parousia, not a repeatable pattern.
Grace Exceeding Merit
Manipuri name: মথৌ তাদনা পীবা তেংবাং অমসুং থৌওংগী মরাল্লোন
Key terms: workers in the vineyard, grace, the last will be first
Review routing: Human theologian
The vineyard owner’s equal wage for unequal labor is the clearest Matthean text for teaching unmerited grace against Manipuri Vaishnavism’s bhakti-responsive কৃপা, in which a devotee’s favor is understood as responsive to devoted service (seva), not wholly unconditioned.
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
Manipuri name: থাওয়াই অসেংবাবু থিনবগী থৌদাং
Key terms: unforgivable sin, blasphemy against the Spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
Must be taught precisely as persistent, willful rejection of the Holy Spirit’s testimony to Christ, not vaguely, to avoid pastoral misapplication; থাওয়াই অসেংবা must appear in full, never bare থাওয়াই, to avoid conflation with Sanamahi ancestral/nature-spirit categories.
High Risk Doctrines
Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Manipuri name: ফরিসীশিংদগী হেন্না চাওবা অচুম্বা চৎনবিরাক
Key terms: righteousness, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrite, clean/unclean heart
Review routing: Human theologian
Internal, Spirit-produced righteousness surpassing external legal/ritual performance; শাস্ত্রী অমসুং ফরিসী must be taught as a historically bounded 1st-century Jewish party, never generalized to Brahmin priestly specialists or Sanamahi maiba/maibi, and শেংবা (ritual purity) must be explicitly distinguished from অসেংবা (moral/relational holiness) per Matthew 15:1-20 and 5:8.
Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Manipuri name: ইনবা তমজবগী মরু ওইবা পীথোকপা
Key terms: cross, deny himself, lose his life, follow me
Review routing: Human theologian
Discipleship to Jesus is direct, personal following, not initiation into a Vaishnava guru-śiṣya devotional lineage or apprenticeship to a maiba; ‘the cross’ names self-denying identification with Christ’s own suffering, not a general metaphor for any hardship.
Repentance
Manipuri name: পুকনিং হোংদোকপগী থৌদাং
Key terms: repent, repentance
Review routing: Human theologian
A decisive, God-ward turning of mind and will, not mere regret; must be distinguished from ritual atonement (prayaschitta) in Vaishnava practice and from purificatory rites addressing ritual (rather than moral) offense in Sanamahi practice.
Beatitudes and Kingdom Character
Manipuri name: মহৌশা ফোংদোকপগী মীৱারোল
Key terms: blessed, poor in spirit, meek, pure in heart, peacemakers
Review routing: Human theologian
‘Blessed’ (তেংবাং মপুনা নুংঙাইহনবা) must never be rendered ধন্য, which in Manipuri Vaishnava devotional speech names a devotee’s responsive, merit-adjacent blessedness from receiving Krishna’s favor or darshan; the Beatitudes pronounce God’s favor as fact over faith-produced character, not reward for devotional achievement.
Parables and Kingdom Revelation
Manipuri name: ওয়ারী-পান্দমদা লৈপাক ফোংদোকপা
Key terms: parable, kingdom of heaven is like
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’s parables are authoritative kingdom-revelation, simultaneously revealing and concealing truth depending on the hearer’s response; must be distinguished from the Vaishnava katha/lila storytelling tradition and from ordinary Meitei phunga wari folktale entertainment.
Forgiveness
Manipuri name: কোকপগী থৌদাং
Key terms: forgive, forgive us our debts, unforgiving servant
Review routing: Human theologian
Forgiveness is a direct relational release granted by God and modeled between people, not a karma-debt framework in which moral ‘debts’ are repaid through future rebirths or ritual atonement.
Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Manipuri name: জুহুদী অমসুং অতোপ্পা ফুরুপশিংগী অমত্তা ওইবা
Key terms: Gentiles, all nations, Canaanite woman’s faith, centurion’s faith
Review routing: Human theologian
Must be taught with theological clarity, not mapped directly onto contemporary Manipur inter-community ethnic relations, which address a different (social/political) kind of division from the one these texts resolve; the gospel’s universal scope must not be softened given Manipur’s contemporary inter-community sensitivities.
The Temple and Old Covenant Fulfillment
Manipuri name: তেংবাং মপুগী সাংগী মপুং ফাবা
Key terms: temple, curtain torn, destruction of the temple
Review routing: Human theologian
The Jerusalem Temple was the one, unique, God-ordained meeting place under the old covenant, categorically different in kind and function from a Vaishnava temple’s image-centered worship; its centrality ends with the new-covenant church, not with any subsequent physical shrine.
Divine Calling and Election
Manipuri name: কৌবা অমসুং খনবগী থৌদাং
Key terms: called, chosen, elect, many are called but few are chosen
Review routing: Human theologian
God’s sovereign call and choice must be distinguished from a maibi being ritually seized/called by an Umang Lai deity during Lai Haraoba trance, and from ৱাইফম-style impersonal fate or royal-divine-lineage selection of the Pakhangba-descent type.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Sabbath and the Law
Manipuri name: সাব্বাথ অমসুং য়াথাংগী মতাংদা
Key terms: Sabbath, law, fulfill the Law
Review routing: Native speaker review
The Sabbath is a specifically Israelite covenant institution with no native Meitei calendrical equivalent; must be distinguished from the lunar/festival rhythms of the Lai Haraoba or Vaishnava festival calendars.
Prayer
Manipuri name: হায়জবগী থৌদাং
Key terms: Lord’s Prayer, pray for those who persecute you
Review routing: Native speaker review
Direct, filial access to God the Father through Christ; distinguish from petitions traditionally carried to the Umang Lai through a maibi or maiba on a community’s behalf.
