Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis — Mark 1–16 (English → Manipuri)
Curriculum: Mark Core passage: Mark 10:35–45 (the theological anchor of this curriculum — not its scope) Destination language: Manipuri (Meiteilon), Bengali script Comparative religion frame: Manipur’s dual, live religious landscape — Sanamahism (Sanamahi, Pakhangba, the Umang Lai forest deities, Lai Haraoba, maibi/maiba ritual specialists, currently undergoing active revival) and Gaudiya Vaishnavism (Krishna-Radha devotion, Ras Lila, avatar theology, bhakti/seva, prasad) — is engaged throughout as two currently practiced traditions, never as a superseded-animism-then-Hinduism sequence.
Purpose and Method
This document provides the full doctrine matrix for the Mark curriculum, mapping every doctrine identified in assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json against its complete range of supporting passages across all sixteen chapters of Mark, first to last. Per the PRD Phase 1 mandate, coverage spans the entire book: the core passage (10:35–45) is the theological center of gravity for the curriculum but never the boundary of the analysis. Every chapter is explicitly accounted for below, including chapters whose primary contribution is reinforcement of doctrines already anchored elsewhere rather than the introduction of new doctrinal content — these are noted explicitly as reviewed, never silently omitted.
Risk tiers, doctrine names, and review routing below are identical to doctrine_risk_registry.json and must not be altered independently in any downstream artifact. Where this document uses shorthand doctrine keys (e.g. son_of_man_authority), they map 1:1 to the corresponding entry in that registry.
Section 1 — Master Doctrine Matrix
| # | Doctrine | Risk | Key Supporting Passages (Mark) | Translation Risk Summary | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jesus as the Suffering Servant and Son of God (suffering_servant_and_son_of_god) | Critical | 1:1, 1:11, 8:31, 9:31, 10:33-34, 10:45, 15:39 | Must hold together full human suffering and eternal divine Sonship without collapsing into either a merely-heroic-teacher reading or an assimilation to Krishna’s own leela hardships, which are not atoning. মীওইগী মচানুপা (Son of Man) must retain its Daniel 7 exalted sense, not flatten to “a human being.” | Human theologian |
| 2 | Deity of Christ (deity_of_christ) | Critical | 1:1, 1:24, 2:5-10, 2:28, 6:50, 14:61-64, 15:39 | Demon-confessions, the theophanic “It is I” (6:50), and the trial’s blasphemy charge all affirm full deity; must not soften to “a great teacher” or “a great avatar” given Manipuri Vaishnavism’s fully developed avatar theology and Ras Lila veneration of Krishna’s divine radiance. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Sonship of Christ (sonship_of_christ) | Critical | 1:11, 3:11, 5:7, 9:7, 12:6, 14:61-62, 15:39 | Eternal, unique Sonship confirmed by the Father’s own voice at baptism and transfiguration; must not be read as one avatar among Vishnu’s recognized avatar sequence as venerated through Ras Lila. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Son of Man’s Dual Authority (son_of_man_authority) | Critical | 2:10, 2:28, 8:31, 8:38, 9:31, 10:33, 10:45, 13:26, 14:21, 14:41, 14:62 | Mark’s most-used Christological title carries a deliberate double sense — genuine human vulnerability plus Daniel 7 exalted dominion — never flattened to “a human being” alone, and never confused with মীওইগী মহৈ লৌবা (incarnation) or অবতার-style repeatable divine descent. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Resurrection of Christ (resurrection_of_christ) | Critical | 8:31, 9:9-10, 9:31, 10:34, 12:18-27, 16:6 | Bodily, historical, once-for-all; never পুনর্জন্ম (rebirth). Mark itself requires an internal contrast: Jairus’s daughter’s temporary resuscitation (5:41-42) must use a distinct, non-technical verb so it is never confused with Christ’s unique final resurrection. | Human theologian |
| 6 | Lordship of Christ (lordship_of_christ) | Critical | 2:28, 5:19, 11:3, 11:9-10, 12:35-37, 15:2-26 | Exclusive, supreme Lordship, including Lordship over the Sabbath and the ironic-yet-true kingship at the cross; never ঠাকুর; নিংথৌ (“King of the Jews”) requires explicit teaching against Pakhangba-descent sacral-kingship echoes. | Human theologian |
| 7 | The Necessity of the Cross (necessity_of_the_cross) | Critical | 8:31, 8:34, 9:31, 10:33-34, 10:45, 14:22-24, 15:22-38 | The divinely necessary, once-for-all atoning death (“the Son of Man MUST suffer,” 8:31); must never soften to generic misfortune or merge with বলি-style propitiatory sacrifice in Sanamahi or Vaishnava ritual practice. | Human theologian |
| 8 | The Ransom for Many (ransom_for_many) | Critical | 10:45, 14:24 | The grammatical core of Mark’s atonement theology; ἀντί must render substitutionally (মহুৎতা, “in place of”), never merely benefactively; must never be equated with a devotional gift or repeatable propitiatory offering. | Human theologian |
| 9 | The New Covenant and the Lord’s Supper (new_covenant_and_lords_supper) | Critical | 14:12-25 | A unique, backward-looking memorial of Christ’s once-for-all sacrificial death; must not be assimilated to Vaishnava prasad or Sanamahi ritual food/blood offerings to the Umang Lai or Apokpa ancestral spirits. | Human theologian |
| 10 | Jesus’ Authority over Sin and the Demonic (Satan) (authority_over_demonic_powers) | Critical | 1:23-27, 1:32-34, 3:22-27, 5:1-20, 9:14-29 | Demons/Satan are categorically malevolent, decisively subject to Christ’s authority; must never be conflated with Umang Lai deities or Apokpa ancestral spirits (not depicted as evil in Sanamahi belief), nor treated as one hostile spirit among roughly equal others. | Human theologian |
| 11 | False Messiahs and the Uniqueness of Christ (false_messiahs_and_uniqueness_of_christ) | Critical | 13:5-6, 13:21-22 | Guards Christ’s singular, unrepeatable identity against rival-claimant or avatar-succession frameworks — a live risk given Vaishnava schemes in which further divine descents remain conceptually open. | Human theologian |
| 12 | The Messianic Secret (messianic_secret) | High | 1:25, 1:34, 1:44, 3:12, 5:43, 7:36, 8:29-30, 9:9, 14:61-62, 15:39 | Deliberate, purposeful restraint tied to God’s redemptive timing, unveiled fully only at the cross (15:39); must not read as incidental secrecy-preference, shame-avoidance, or maibi-style guarded oracular lore. | Human theologian |
| 13 | The Kingdom of God Breaking In (kingdom_of_god_breaking_in) | High | 1:14-15, 4:1-34, 9:1, 10:14-15, 14:25, 15:43 | An already-but-not-yet inaugurated reign presently breaking in, not a fully realized political kingdom; distinguish from the historic Meitei kingship’s own already-established royal-divine framework tied to Pakhangba descent. | Human theologian |
| 14 | Faith and Discipleship amid Fear (faith_and_discipleship_amid_fear) | High | 4:35-41, 5:33-36, 6:45-52, 9:14-29, 9:32, 10:32, 14:32-42, 16:8 | A recurring book-wide pattern: ordinary terror should give way to trusting faith or reverent awe. The single Manipuri term অকিবা must be disambiguated by context (terror vs. awe) at every occurrence, never collapsed into one flat sense. | Human theologian |
| 15 | Servanthood versus Worldly Greatness (servanthood_vs_worldly_greatness) | High | 9:33-37, 10:35-45, 10:42-44 | Kingdom greatness redefined as voluntary, humble service. মিন্তা (slave) carries residual associations with the historic Meitei Lallup bonded-labor institution; must be taught as freely chosen, dignity-affirming self-giving in imitation of Christ (10:45), never coercive servitude. | Human theologian |
| 16 | Jesus’ Authority over Sickness and Nature (authority_over_sickness_and_nature) | High | 1:29-34, 2:1-12, 4:35-41, 5:1-43, 6:45-56, 7:31-37, 8:22-26, 10:46-52 | Christ’s inherent divine authority over disease, storm, and demonic affliction must stay categorically distinct from a maibi’s ritual/oracular trance-power at Lai Haraoba; physical-healing σῴζω (ফাওহনবা) must remain disambiguated from baseline’s reserved eternal-salvation term (অহানবা). | Human theologian |
| 17 | Jesus’ Authority over Sin (authority_over_sin_and_forgiveness) | High | 2:1-12, 2:15-17, 11:25 | Jesus forgives sins immediately on his own divine authority, provoking a rightly-perceptive blasphemy accusation; distinguish from ritual absolution (prayaschitta) or Sanamahi taboo-reconciliation rites with the Umang Lai. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Repentance and the Gospel (repentance_and_the_gospel) | High | 1:4, 1:14-15, 6:12 | Inward turning of mind and allegiance toward God, the necessary response to the in-breaking kingdom; must not render as ritual atonement performance (prayaschitta) or Sanamahi taboo-purification restitution. | Human theologian |
| 19 | Purity and the Heart (purity_and_the_heart) | High | 7:1-23 | Jesus relocates defilement from ritual/dietary observance to the heart, directly engaging Vaishnava dietary/temple purity codes and Sanamahi ritual-purity requirements before Lai Haraoba; must not be taught as a blanket dismissal of purity or ancestral custom generally. | Human theologian |
| 20 | Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (blasphemy_against_the_holy_spirit) | High | 3:22-30 | Attributing the Spirit’s clearly divine, authenticated work to Satan is a uniquely serious, unforgivable sin category; must preserve full legal-theological weight, not soften into general irreverence. | Human theologian |
| 21 | Transfiguration and Revealed Glory (transfiguration_and_revealed_glory) | High | 9:2-8 | A temporary unveiling of Christ’s pre-existing eternal divine glory, confirmed by the Father’s own voice; must not assimilate to shape-shifting deity-manifestation motifs or a reincarnation/avatar-appearance framework. | Human theologian |
| 22 | Temple Fulfillment (temple_fulfillment) | High | 11:11-19, 11:27, 13:1-2, 14:58, 15:38 | The Jerusalem Temple is a specific historical Old Covenant institution Christ confronts and fulfills; never মন্দির (live Vaishnava temple) or লাইশাং (general Meitei shrine word), to avoid implying Mark endorses or parallels a currently-practiced local worship site. | Human theologian |
| 23 | Eschatology and the Second Coming (eschatology_and_second_coming) | High | 13:1-37 | Eschatological readiness/vigilance, not superstitious omen-watching or fatalistic anxiety; end-times tribulation distinguished from ordinary discipleship hardship elsewhere in the same chapter. | Human theologian |
| 24 | Betrayal and Divine Sovereignty (betrayal_and_divine_sovereignty) | High | 14:10-11, 14:18-21, 14:41-44 | Must convey both genuine human treachery (Judas is culpable) and God’s sovereign redemptive purpose without collapsing either or implying divine complicity, and never reducing to impersonal ৱাইফম-style fate. | Human theologian |
| 25 | Unity of Jews and Gentiles (unity_of_jews_and_gentiles) | High | 7:24-30, 11:17, 13:10 | The Syrophoenician woman’s faith and the gospel reaching “all nations” anticipate scope beyond ethnic boundaries; teach with theological clarity rather than mapping directly onto Manipur’s own contemporary inter-community relations. | Human theologian |
| 26 | Providence and Election (providence_and_election) | High | 10:40, 13:20, 13:22, 13:27 | Kingdom positions and outcomes rest on the Father’s own personal, purposive determination, not request or ambition; never ৱাইফম (impersonal fate) nor the royal-divine-lineage selection pattern of the Pakhangba descent tradition. | Human theologian |
| 27 | Marriage and Divorce (marriage_and_divorce) | Medium | 10:2-12 | Marriage’s permanence rooted in God’s creation design; requires pastoral sensitivity given diverse contemporary Manipuri family/marriage customs, but the doctrinal core must not be reduced to a bare legal rule detached from that theological ground. | Native speaker review |
| 28 | Wealth and the Kingdom (wealth_and_the_kingdom) | Medium | 10:17-27 | Salvation is “impossible for man… but not with God” — a grace-not-wealth statement guarding against a reading in which wealth, votive giving, or devotional offering (seva/bali) purchases divine favor. | Native speaker review |
| 29 | The Greatest Commandment (greatest_commandment) | Medium | 12:28-31 | Agapē-love is committed, willed, whole-person loyalty, distinct from Vaishnavism’s prema-bhakti (romantically-figured devotional love central to Ras Lila veneration); “neighbor” extends beyond clan (yumnak) or ethnic-community boundaries. | Native speaker review |
| 30 | Civil Authority and Divine Allegiance (civil_authority_and_divine_allegiance) | Medium | 12:13-17 | Recognizes legitimate limited civil obligation while reserving ultimate allegiance to God alone; render with care given historical/contemporary sensitivity around external administrative authority in Manipur’s regional experience. | Native speaker review |
| 31 | Angelic Witness to the Resurrection (angelic_witness_to_resurrection) | Low | 16:1-8 | A created heavenly messenger announces the resurrection; kept distinct from an Umang Lai forest/guardian deity or an ancestral Apokpa spirit, though narrative framing here makes confusion unlikely. | Automated review |
Totals (must match doctrine_risk_registry.json exactly): Critical 11 · High 15 · Medium 4 · Low 1 · Total 31 doctrines. Theologian review required: 26. Native speaker review: 4. Automated only: 1.
Section 2 — Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrinal Coverage (Mark 1–16, Full Book)
Every chapter is reviewed below. Where a chapter’s content is primarily reinforcement of a doctrine already fully anchored elsewhere rather than a fresh doctrinal introduction, this is stated explicitly rather than left silent.
Mark 1
- Doctrines active: Repentance and the Gospel (1:4, 1:14-15); Sonship of Christ / Deity of Christ (1:1, 1:11, baptism voice from heaven); Jesus’ Authority over Sin and the Demonic (1:23-27, 1:32-34); Jesus’ Authority over Sickness and Nature (1:29-34); The Messianic Secret (1:25, 1:34, 1:44 — the healed leper charged to silence).
- Notes: The opening verse (1:1) already deploys three Critical terms in sequence (Gospel, Christ, Son of God) and must be treated as a doctrinal thesis statement for the whole book, paralleling Romans 1:16-17’s role in the Romans package. Chapter reviewed in full; no doctrine omitted.
Mark 2
- Doctrines active: Jesus’ Authority over Sin (2:1-12, forgiving the paralytic, provoking the blasphemy question); Son of Man’s Dual Authority (2:10, 2:28 — Lord of the Sabbath); Lordship of Christ (2:28).
- Notes: The paralytic healing directly juxtaposes physical-authority and sin-forgiving-authority claims in one pericope; both
authority_over_sickness_and_natureandauthority_over_sin_and_forgivenessmust be visibly distinct doctrines in translator notes even though they share one narrative. Chapter reviewed in full.
Mark 3
- Doctrines active: Jesus’ Authority over the Demonic/Satan (3:22-27, Beelzebul controversy); Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (3:22-30); The Messianic Secret (3:12, demons silenced).
- Notes: 3:22-30 is the single load-bearing passage for the unforgivable-sin doctrine in the entire book; requires isolated theologian review distinct from the general blasphemy-at-trial doctrine (14:64). Chapter reviewed in full.
Mark 4
- Doctrines active: The Kingdom of God Breaking In (4:1-34, parables, the mystery of the kingdom); Jesus’ Authority over Nature (4:35-41, calming the storm); Faith and Discipleship amid Fear (4:40-41, the disciples’ terror giving way to reverent awe).
- Notes: 4:35-41 is a key early instance of the fear-disambiguation pattern (
faith_and_discipleship_amid_fear) that recurs across the whole book; establish the translation convention here for consistency in later chapters. Chapter reviewed in full.
Mark 5
- Doctrines active: Jesus’ Authority over the Demonic (5:1-20, the Gerasene demoniac / Legion); Jesus’ Authority over Sickness (5:21-43, the woman with the flow of blood; Jairus’s daughter); Resurrection of Christ (background contrast only — 5:41-42’s temporary resuscitation of Jairus’s daughter must be lexically distinguished from Christ’s own unique resurrection in ch. 16); Faith and Discipleship amid Fear (5:33, 5:36).
- Notes: This chapter supplies the necessary internal contrast term for
resurrection_of_christ’s translation risk (registry note); it does not introduce a new doctrine but is essential supporting material and is reviewed accordingly.
Mark 6
- Doctrines active: The Messianic Secret / rejection at Nazareth (6:1-6, “a prophet is not without honor”); Jesus’ Authority over Sickness and Nature (6:45-56, walking on water, healings at Gennesaret); Deity of Christ (6:50, “It is I,” ἐγώ εἰμι theophanic echo); Faith and Discipleship amid Fear (6:49-50).
- Notes: The feeding of the five thousand (6:30-44) reinforces Kingdom-breaking-in and power-of-God themes already anchored in ch. 4 and Romans-baseline
power_of_god; no new doctrine category required, but the passage is reviewed and its 6:50 theophanic echo is flagged Critical-adjacent per the registry’sdeity_of_christentry.
Mark 7
- Doctrines active: Purity and the Heart (7:1-23, clean/unclean, tradition of the elders); Unity of Jews and Gentiles (7:24-30, the Syrophoenician woman); Jesus’ Authority over Sickness (7:31-37, deaf-mute healing).
- Notes: Chapter reviewed in full; 7:1-23 is the sole full anchor passage for
purity_and_the_heartin the entire book.
Mark 8
- Doctrines active: Jesus’ Authority over Sickness (8:22-26, gradual healing of the blind man at Bethsaida); The Messianic Secret (8:29-30, Peter’s confession silenced); Son of Man’s Dual Authority (8:31, 8:38); The Necessity of the Cross (8:31, 8:34, first passion prediction and “take up his cross”); Faith and Discipleship amid Fear / cross-bearing discipleship (8:34-38).
- Notes: 8:27-38 is the theological hinge of Mark’s narrative structure (Peter’s confession, first passion prediction, cost of discipleship) and requires theologian review as a unit even though its individual doctrines are separately registered. Chapter reviewed in full.
Mark 9
- Doctrines active: Transfiguration and Revealed Glory (9:2-8); Sonship of Christ (9:7, the Father’s voice); Jesus’ Authority over the Demonic (9:14-29, the boy with an unclean spirit) paired with Faith and Discipleship amid Fear (“I believe; help my unbelief”); The Necessity of the Cross (9:31, second passion prediction); Servanthood versus Worldly Greatness (9:33-37, “who is the greatest”).
- Notes: Chapter reviewed in full; the Gehenna warnings (9:43-48) are covered at the term level in Section B of the Core Glossary (08) rather than as a separate doctrine entry here, consistent with the registry.
Mark 10 — CORE PASSAGE CHAPTER
- Doctrines active: Marriage and Divorce (10:2-12); The Kingdom of God Breaking In (10:14-15, blessing the children); Wealth and the Kingdom (10:17-27, the rich young man); The Necessity of the Cross (10:33-34, third passion prediction); Providence and Election (10:40, “not mine to grant”); Servanthood versus Worldly Greatness (10:42-44); The Ransom for Many and Son of Man’s Dual Authority converge at 10:45, the curriculum’s core passage; Jesus’ Authority over Sickness (10:46-52, blind Bartimaeus) paired with Faith and Discipleship amid Fear/faith.
- Notes: See Section 3 below for the dedicated doctrinal convergence analysis of 10:35-45. This is the single most doctrinally dense chapter in the book for this curriculum’s stated Bible Doctrines list.
Mark 11
- Doctrines active: Lordship of Christ (11:1-11, triumphal entry, Hosanna acclamation); The Kingdom of God Breaking In (11:9-10); Temple Fulfillment (11:11-19, 11:27, the temple’s cleansing and the question of Jesus’s authority).
- Notes: The cursing of the fig tree (11:12-14, 20-25) functions as an enacted parable of temple judgment; it does not introduce a distinct doctrine but supports
temple_fulfillmentand is reviewed as such.
Mark 12
- Doctrines active: The Kingdom of God Breaking In (12:1-12, parable of the tenants — implicit judgment/kingdom-transfer theme); Civil Authority and Divine Allegiance (12:13-17); Resurrection of Christ (12:18-27, the Sadducees’ question — future bodily resurrection doctrine, directly relevant background for ch. 16); The Greatest Commandment (12:28-31); Lordship of Christ / Sonship of Christ (12:35-37, David’s son and Lord).
- Notes: The widow’s mite (12:41-44) reinforces
servanthood_vs_worldly_greatness’s generosity dimension without introducing a new doctrine category; reviewed as supporting material. Chapter reviewed in full.
Mark 13
- Doctrines active: Eschatology and the Second Coming (13:1-37); False Messiahs and the Uniqueness of Christ (13:5-6, 13:21-22); Providence and Election (13:20, 13:22, 13:27); Temple Fulfillment (13:1-2, prediction of the temple’s destruction).
- Notes: Chapter reviewed in full as the Olivet Discourse, Mark’s single sustained eschatological unit.
Mark 14
- Doctrines active: The New Covenant and the Lord’s Supper (14:12-25); Betrayal and Divine Sovereignty (14:10-11, 14:18-21, 14:41-44); Faith and Discipleship amid Fear (14:32-42, Gethsemane, “not what I will”); The Necessity of the Cross (implicit throughout the passion sequence); Deity of Christ / Blasphemy (14:61-64, the trial before the Sanhedrin — the ironic true confession received as blasphemy); Son of Man’s Dual Authority (14:21, 14:41, 14:62).
- Notes: Chapter reviewed in full; 14:61-64 requires the same theologian-review discipline as 3:22-30 for blasphemy language, but as a distinct occurrence per the registry’s routing (Critical at the trial specifically).
Mark 15
- Doctrines active: Lordship of Christ (15:2-26, “King of the Jews” before Pilate and on the cross inscription); The Necessity of the Cross (15:22-38, the crucifixion narrative); Temple Fulfillment (15:38, the temple veil torn); Deity of Christ / Sonship of Christ (15:39, the centurion’s confession).
- Notes: Chapter reviewed in full; the Aramaic cry of dereliction (15:34) is covered at the term level in the Core Glossary and is treated here as integral to
necessity_of_the_cross, not a separate doctrine.
Mark 16
- Doctrines active: Resurrection of Christ (16:1-8); Angelic Witness to the Resurrection (16:1-8); Faith and Discipleship amid Fear (16:8, the women’s fear at the empty tomb — the book’s final, unresolved instance of the fear pattern).
- Notes: Chapter reviewed in full. The longer ending (16:9-20, present in some manuscript traditions) reinforces
repentance_and_the_gospeland mission themes already anchored in 1:14-15 and Romans-baselinemission; no new doctrine category is required, but translators should retain any textual-tradition footnote conventions used elsewhere in the destination-language Bible tradition.
Section 3 — Doctrinal Convergence at the Core Passage (Mark 10:35-45)
The core passage is the theological anchor of this curriculum. At least seven of the doctrine matrix’s Critical/High entries converge directly within these eleven verses:
| Verse(s) | Doctrine(s) in Play | Convergence Note |
|---|---|---|
| 10:35-37 | Providence and Election | James and John’s request for chief seats is refused on the ground that such positions belong to the Father’s own determination, not petition or ambition — must not read as ৱাইফম-style fate. |
| 10:38-39 | Faith and Discipleship amid Fear; The Necessity of the Cross | The “cup” and “baptism” of suffering are metaphors for the cross itself; requires explicit teaching, not assumed cultural equivalence (cf. Cup term note in Core Glossary). |
| 10:40 | Providence and Election | Restates the sovereign-determination doctrine from 10:35-37. |
| 10:41-44 | Servanthood versus Worldly Greatness | The Gentile-ruler pattern of লর্ড-it-over/exercise-authority-over is named and rejected as the model for kingdom greatness; মিন্তা (slave) requires explicit teaching against Lallup-bondage connotations. |
| 10:45a | Son of Man’s Dual Authority | ”For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve” — the definitive statement holding together Christ’s full humanity/servanthood and his exalted, self-aware divine mission in one clause. |
| 10:45b | The Ransom for Many; The Necessity of the Cross | ”To give his life as a ransom for many” — the single verse most load-bearing for Mark’s entire atonement theology; ἀντί (מहুৎতা) must be rendered substitutionally, and “ransom” (থোকহনবগী মায়) must never drift toward a devotional gift or repeatable propitiatory offering. |
Implication for Phase 2: Every segment drawn from Mark 10:35-45 must be routed to human theologian review without exception, and back-translation must specifically verify (a) the substitutionary force of “for many,” (b) the retained double sense of “Son of Man,” and (c) that “ransom” has not been rendered with any term carrying bali, seva, or prasad associations.
Section 4 — Risk Summary (Consistency Check Against Registry)
| Risk Tier | Count | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 11 | Human theologian (every occurrence) |
| High | 15 | Human theologian |
| Medium | 4 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 1 | Automated review |
| Total | 31 | 26 theologian / 4 native speaker / 1 automated |

Critical Risk Doctrines
Jesus as the Suffering Servant and Son of God
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী ৱাত্তবা মতেংপাংবা অমসুং তেংবাং মপুগী মচানুপা ওইবা
Key terms: son_of_man, son_of_god, ransom, cross, servant
Review routing: Human theologian
Mark’s central theological paradox — a divine Son who suffers and serves — must hold both full humanity/suffering and eternal divine Sonship together. Risk that readers from a Vaishnava background assimilate this into Krishna’s own leela hardships (which are not atoning suffering), or that মীওইগী মচানুপা (Son of Man) is reduced to merely a human title, losing its Daniel 7 exalted sense.
Deity of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী তেংবাং মপু ওইবা
Key terms: son_of_god, lord, holy_one_of_god, ego_eimi, blasphemy
Review routing: Human theologian
Mark’s demon-confessions, Jesus’s own theophanic ‘It is I,’ and the trial’s blasphemy charge all affirm Christ’s full deity. Must not be softened into ‘a great teacher’ or ‘a great avatar,’ given Manipuri Vaishnavism’s fully developed avatar theology and Ras Lila veneration of Krishna’s own divine radiance.
Sonship of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী মচানুপা ওইবা
Key terms: son_of_god, father, abba, transfigured
Review routing: Human theologian
Eternal, unique Sonship confirmed by the Father’s own voice at baptism (1:11) and transfiguration (9:7); must not be read as one avatar among Vishnu’s recognized avatar sequence as venerated through the Ras Lila tradition.
Son of Man’s Dual Authority (Humanity and Exalted Dominion)
Manipuri name: মীওইগী মচানুপা ওইবগী অধিকার
Key terms: son_of_man, authority, glory
Review routing: Human theologian
Mark’s most-used Christological title carries a deliberate double sense — genuine human vulnerability able to suffer and die, and Daniel 7’s exalted dominion-figure — that must never be flattened to ‘a human being’ alone, nor confused with মীওইগী মহৈ লৌবা (incarnation, the eternal Son’s assumption of human nature) or with অবতার-style repeatable divine descent.
Resurrection of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী সিবদগী হিংজত-লকপা
Key terms: resurrection, life_soul
Review routing: Human theologian
Bodily, historical, once-for-all; must never use পুনর্জন্ম (rebirth), a category absorbed into Meitei religious vocabulary through Vaishnavization. Mark itself supplies a needed internal contrast: Jairus’s daughter’s temporary resuscitation (5:41-42) must be rendered with a distinct, non-technical verb so it is not confused with Christ’s unique, final resurrection.
Lordship of Christ
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী মপু ওইবা
Key terms: lord, sabbath, king_of_the_jews
Review routing: Human theologian
Exclusive, supreme Lordship including Lordship over the Sabbath and ironic-yet-true kingship at the cross; must never use ঠাকুর (Krishna-specific devotional title), and নিংথৌ (used for ‘King of the Jews’) requires explicit teaching to prevent readers hearing an echo of the Pakhangba-descent sacral-kingship tradition.
The Necessity of the Cross
Manipuri name: ক্রুসকী থৌদাং মথৌ তাবা
Key terms: cross, crucify, ransom, for_many, body_blood, aramaic_cry_of_dereliction, temple_veil
Review routing: Human theologian
The cross is the unique, divinely necessary, once-for-all atoning death of the Son of God (‘the Son of Man MUST suffer,’ 8:31); must never be softened into generic misfortune or merged with বলি-style propitiatory animal sacrifice offered to appease a deity or ancestral spirit within either Sanamahi or Vaishnava ritual practice.
The Ransom for Many
Manipuri name: মায়ামগী মহুৎতা পীথোকপগী মায়
Key terms: ransom, for_many, slave, life_soul
Review routing: Human theologian
The grammatical core of Mark’s atonement theology: Christ’s life given as a substitutionary price of release. ἀντί must be rendered substitutionally (মহুৎতা, ‘in place of’), never merely benefactively, which would blunt the claim to generalized benevolence; must never be equated with a devotional gift or a repeatable propitiatory offering.
The New Covenant and the Lord’s Supper
Manipuri name: অনৌবা ৱারেপ্পা অমসুং মপু ইবুংগোগী চানবগী থৌরাং
Key terms: covenant, body_blood, passover, for_many
Review routing: Human theologian
A unique, backward-looking memorial of Christ’s own once-for-all sacrificial death establishing the new covenant; must not be assimilated to Vaishnava prasad (consecrated food ritually offered to and returned from a deity, prominent in Ras Lila-associated devotion) or to Sanamahi ritual food/blood offerings made to the Umang Lai or ancestral Apokpa spirits to secure favor.
Jesus’ Authority over Sin and the Demonic (Satan)
Manipuri name: শয়তান অমসুং থাওয়াই ফত্তবাগী মথক্তা অধিকার
Key terms: demon, satan, authority
Review routing: Human theologian
Demons and Satan must be taught as categorically malevolent beings decisively subject to Christ’s authority; must never be conflated with the Umang Lai forest/guardian deities or ancestral Apokpa spirits, none of which are depicted as inherently evil in Sanamahi belief, nor treated as one hostile spirit roughly equal among many.
False Messiahs and the Uniqueness of Christ
Manipuri name: য়াম্লবা ক্রিস্তোশিংগী মথক্তা ক্রিস্তোগী অমত্তা ওইবা
Key terms: false_christ_false_prophet, messiah
Review routing: Human theologian
Guards Christ’s singular, unrepeatable identity against any rival claimant or avatar-succession framework — a live risk given some Vaishnava schemes in which further divine descents remain conceptually open, culminating for some traditions with Krishna.
High Risk Doctrines
The Messianic Secret
Manipuri name: ক্রিস্তোগী মিং থুম্লোননা থামবগী থৌরাং
Key terms: messianic_silencing, mystery_secret, son_of_god, demon
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus’s deliberate, purposeful restraint of premature disclosure, tied to God’s redemptive timing and fully unveiled only at the cross (15:39); must not be taught as incidental secrecy-preference, shame-avoidance, or a maibi-style guarded ritual-lore withholding of oracular knowledge.
The Kingdom of God Breaking In
Manipuri name: তেংবাং মপুগী লৈপাক নক্লকপগী থৌরাং
Key terms: kingdom_of_god, repentance, parable, mystery_secret
Review routing: Human theologian
An already-but-not-yet inaugurated reign, presently breaking in through Jesus, not a fully realized political kingdom; must be distinguished from the historic Meitei kingship’s own already-established royal-divine framework tied to the Pakhangba-descent tradition.
Faith and Discipleship amid Fear
Manipuri name: অকিবগী মনুংদা থাজবা অমসুং তুংইনবগী থৌরাং
Key terms: faith, fear, deny_oneself, cup
Review routing: Human theologian
A pattern recurring across the whole book: ordinary terror should give way either to trusting faith or to appropriate reverent awe at Christ’s identity. The single Manipuri fear-term অকিবা must be disambiguated by context in each occurrence (terror vs. awe), never collapsed into one flat sense across the book.
Servanthood versus Worldly Greatness
Manipuri name: মতেংপাংবা অমসুং তৈনানবগী মথক্তা লৈপাক্কী মচাউবা
Key terms: servant, slave, lord_it_over, exercise_authority_over, rulers
Review routing: Human theologian
Kingdom greatness is redefined as voluntary, humble service. মিন্তা (slave) carries residual associations with the historic Meitei Lallup bonded-labor institution and recognized categories of social bondage; must be explicitly taught as freely chosen, dignity-affirming self-giving in imitation of Christ (10:45), never coercive servitude.
Jesus’ Authority over Sickness and Nature
Manipuri name: ৱাংবা অমসুং মখাগী মথক্তা ক্রিস্তোগী অধিকার
Key terms: authority, save_heal_physical, power_of_god, legion
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s inherent divine authority over disease, storm, and demonic affliction must be kept distinct from a maibi’s ritual/oracular trance-power invoked at Lai Haraoba; the physical-healing sense of σῴζω (ফাওহনবা) must remain disambiguated from the baseline’s reserved eternal-salvation term (অহানবা).
Jesus’ Authority over Sin
Manipuri name: পাপ কোকপগী মথক্তা ক্রিস্তোগী অধিকার
Key terms: forgive_sins, sin, blasphemy, son_of_man
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus forgives sins immediately on his own divine authority, provoking a blasphemy accusation from onlookers who rightly recognize forgiveness as God’s own prerogative; must be distinguished from ritual absolution (prayaschitta) requiring devotee performance or Sanamahi taboo-reconciliation rites with the Umang Lai.
Repentance and the Gospel
Manipuri name: পুকনিং হোংদোকপা অমসুং নুংঙাইবগী পাউ
Key terms: repentance, gospel, kingdom_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
Inward turning of mind and allegiance toward God, the necessary response to the in-breaking kingdom; must not be rendered as ritual atonement performance (prayaschitta) or Sanamahi taboo-purification restitution.
Purity and the Heart
Manipuri name: থমোইগী শেংবা অমসুং য়াথাংগী শেংবা
Key terms: clean_unclean, tradition, holy
Review routing: Human theologian
Jesus relocates defilement from ritual/dietary observance to the moral condition of the heart, directly engaging both Vaishnava dietary/temple purity codes and Sanamahi ritual-purity requirements before Lai Haraoba and Umang Lai worship; must not be taught as a blanket dismissal of purity or of ancestral custom generally.
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit
Manipuri name: থাওয়াই অসেংবাবু ইঅকপা
Key terms: blasphemy, holy_spirit, satan
Review routing: Human theologian
Attributing the Spirit’s clearly divine, authenticated work to Satan is a uniquely serious, unforgivable sin category; must preserve its full legal-theological weight and not be softened into general irreverence.
Transfiguration and Revealed Glory
Manipuri name: মহৈ হোংদোকপা অমসুং মতিক চাউবা ফোংদোকপা
Key terms: transfigured, glory, father, son_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian
A temporary unveiling of Christ’s pre-existing eternal divine glory, confirmed by the Father’s own voice; must not be assimilated to a shape-shifting deity-manifestation motif or to a reincarnation/avatar-appearance framework as practiced in Manipuri Vaishnavism.
Temple Fulfillment
Manipuri name: তেংবাং মপুগী ইরুক মপুংফাহনবা
Key terms: temple, temple_veil, high_priest
Review routing: Human theologian
The Jerusalem Temple is a specific historical Old Covenant institution Christ confronts and, in his death, fulfills; must never use মন্দির (reserved for a live Vaishnava temple) or লাইশাং (general Meitei shrine word for both Vaishnava and indigenous sacred sites) to avoid implying Mark endorses or parallels a currently-practiced local worship site.
Eschatology and the Second Coming
Manipuri name: অরোইবা অমসুং ক্রিস্তোগী লাক্লকপা
Key terms: tribulation, watch_be_alert, son_of_man, sign, false_christ_false_prophet
Review routing: Human theologian
Eschatological readiness and vigilance must be conveyed, not superstitious omen-watching or fatalistic anxiety; end-times tribulation must be distinguished from ordinary discipleship hardship elsewhere in the same chapter.
Betrayal and Divine Sovereignty
Manipuri name: পীথোকপা অমসুং তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং
Key terms: betray, son_of_man, cross
Review routing: Human theologian
Must convey both genuine human treachery (Judas is culpable, ‘woe to that man’) and God’s sovereign redemptive purpose (‘as it is written of him’) without collapsing either or implying God’s complicity, and never reducing it to impersonal ৱাইফম-style fate.
Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Manipuri name: জুহুদীশিং অমসুং অতোপ্পা ফুরুপশিংগী অমত্তা ওইবা
Key terms: gentiles
Review routing: Human theologian
The Syrophoenician woman’s faith and the vision of the gospel reaching ‘all nations’ anticipate the gospel’s scope beyond ethnic boundaries; must be taught with theological clarity rather than mapped directly onto Manipur’s own contemporary inter-community relations, which address a different kind of division.
Providence and Election
Manipuri name: তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং অমসুং তেংবাং মপুগী খনবা
Key terms: election, providence
Review routing: Human theologian
Positions and outcomes in the kingdom rest on the Father’s own personal, purposive determination, not on request or ambition; must never be rendered with ৱাইফম (impersonal fate) nor the royal-divine-lineage selection pattern of the historic Pakhangba descent tradition.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Marriage and Divorce
Manipuri name: য়েন্থোকপগী মথক্তা তেংবাং মপুগী থৌরাং
Key terms: divorce, love
Review routing: Native speaker review
Marriage’s permanence is rooted in God’s creation design; requires pastoral sensitivity given diverse contemporary Manipuri family and marriage customs, but the doctrinal core must not be reduced to a bare legal rule detached from that theological ground.
Wealth and the Kingdom
Manipuri name: ফীরাল য়ামলবা অমসুং তেংবাং মপুগী লৈপাক
Key terms: rich_riches, salvation
Review routing: Native speaker review
Salvation is ‘impossible for man… but not with God’ — a grace-not-wealth statement that must guard against a reading in which wealth, votive giving, or devotional offering (seva/bali) is imagined to purchase divine favor, a live risk given both bhakti seva-offering culture and Sanamahi votive-gift practice.
The Greatest Commandment
Manipuri name: অহাংবা য়াথাং — তেংবাং মপুবু অমসুং মশক লৈবা মীওইবু নুংশিবা
Key terms: love, neighbor
Review routing: Native speaker review
Agapē-love is committed, willed, whole-person loyalty to God and active neighbor-care, distinct from Manipuri Vaishnavism’s prema-bhakti (romantically-figured devotional love central to Ras Lila veneration of Krishna-Radha); ‘neighbor’ must be taught as extending beyond clan (yumnak) or ethnic-community boundaries.
Civil Authority and Divine Allegiance
Manipuri name: গভর্মেন্তকী অধিকার অমসুং তেংবাং মপুবু থাজবা
Key terms: tax_caesar
Review routing: Native speaker review
Recognizes legitimate limited civil obligation while reserving ultimate allegiance to God alone; render with care given the historical and contemporary sensitivity around external administrative authority in Manipur’s regional experience.
Low Risk Doctrines
Angelic Witness to the Resurrection
Manipuri name: স্বর্গদূতনা সিবদগী হিংজত-লকপগী মখা তাবা
Key terms: angel, resurrection
Review routing: Automated review
A created heavenly messenger announces the resurrection; must be kept distinct from an Umang Lai forest/guardian deity or an ancestral Apokpa spirit, though the narrative framing at this specific point makes confusion unlikely.
