Doctrine Analysis
11 — Doctrine Analysis: 1 Chronicles (English–Mandarin)
Purpose: Full-book doctrine matrix for 1 Chronicles 1–29, extending the Romans baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json and the assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json produced for this curriculum. This document is the human-readable companion to that JSON registry; doctrine names, risk tiers, and review routing here are IDENTICAL to the registry — this file adds narrative rationale, cross-chapter tracing, and the mandatory full-book chapter-by-chapter coverage log required by the PRD.
Core passage anchor: 1 Chronicles 17:1–15 (the Davidic Covenant reaffirmed) is the theological center of gravity for the curriculum but not its scope boundary. Every chapter of 1 Chronicles has been reviewed below.
Part A — Full Doctrine Matrix
Risk tiers and review routing below are copied verbatim from assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json and must not be altered independently of that file.
| # | Doctrine | Supporting Passages (1 Chronicles) | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Genealogy and the Continuity of God’s People | 1:1–9:44; 3:1–24 | Medium | List-marker vocabulary (…的子孙/…的后代/家谱) risks importing ancestor-veneration overtones (祭祖) into what is historical covenant-continuity record, not ritual ancestor genealogy. Nine chapters of lists demand vocabulary consistency more than doctrinal defense. | Native speaker review |
| 2 | Divine Reordering of Birthright | 5:1–2 | Medium | 长子的名分 must not be taught as a re-earnable or merit-based status; Reuben-to-Joseph transfer is God’s sovereign reordering, resonant with but distinct from 拣选 (election). | Native speaker review |
| 3 | Covenant Unfaithfulness and Exile | 5:25–26; 9:1 | High | 干犯 (ma’al) and 被掳 (galah) must be taught as a personal covenant God’s disciplinary response to relational treachery, not impersonal karmic retribution (报应) accruing across a bloodline. Distinct from the baseline’s generic 罪 caution. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Legitimate versus Illegitimate Spiritual Inquiry | 10:13–14 | High | 求问 (directed to 耶和华) must be sharply distinguished from 交鬼的 (medium) and existing forbidden divination terms (求签, 问卜, 占卜). Culturally live given ongoing mediumship practice (扶乩, 问米); requires pastoral, not merely polemical, framing. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Divine Election of David’s House | 11:1–3; 28:4–6; 28:10 | High | 拣选 must be God’s personal, gracious choice among real alternatives (“of all my sons… he hath chosen Solomon,” 28:5), never impersonal cosmic mandate (天命) or fated destiny (命运/缘分). | Human theologian |
| 6 | The Ark of the Covenant and Reverent Worship | 13:1–14; 15:1–29; 16:1–6 | High | 约柜 must not be read as an ancestral spirit-tablet box (神主牌/祖先牌位); it is the living God’s covenant throne-symbol. Uzza’s death must be taught as consistent divine holiness requiring obedience to revealed 定例/规矩, not capricious temper or folk taboo-violation fear. | Human theologian |
| 7 | The Davidic Covenant Reaffirmed | 17:1–15; 17:23–27 | Critical | CORE PASSAGE. Hinges on a Hebrew wordplay (בַּיִת) Mandarin cannot preserve in one lexeme (殿 vs. 家/家室); mandatory translator’s note at every occurrence. The promise is unconditional and unilaterally God-guaranteed — explicitly CONTRASTED with, never analogized to, the revocable Mandate of Heaven (天命). | Human theologian |
| 8 | God’s House versus David’s House (Wordplay) | 17:1, 4, 10; 22:1 | Critical | The single Hebrew בַּיִת carries David’s palace, God’s future temple, and God’s promised dynasty in one word — the chapter’s theological engine (David wants to build God a בית; God will build David a בית instead). The forced Mandarin lexical split (殿 vs. 家/家室) silently destroys this connection unless flagged every time. | Human theologian |
| 9 | Covenantal Sonship of Solomon (contrasted with the Eternal Sonship of Christ) | 17:13 | Critical | 儿子 (Solomon’s adoptive, covenantal royal sonship) must NEVER be rendered as or read alongside the baseline’s reserved Critical term 神的儿子 (Christ’s eternal, co-equal Sonship) without a distinguishing note at every occurrence. | Human theologian |
| 10 | The Eternal Throne Promise | 17:12, 14; 22:10; 28:5–7; 29:23 | Critical | 宝座 collides strongly with the transferable “dragon throne” concept under the revocable Mandate of Heaven. Must be taught as deliberate CONTRAST: God’s oath-bound promise is unconditional and, per NT fulfillment (Luke 1:32–33), literally everlasting in the risen Christ. | Human theologian |
| 11 | God’s Steadfast Covenant Love (Chesed) | 10:13–14; 16:34, 41; 17:13 | High | 慈爱 (chesed) is covenant-LOYAL, promise-keeping love toward an existing covenant partner — withdrawn from Saul’s house, never finally withdrawn from David’s line — and must be kept distinct from the baseline’s 恩典 (grace, favor apart from any prior relationship). Not reducible to generic 爱. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Inspiration of Scripture / Prophetic Revelation | 17:2–3, 15; 21:9–13; 29:29 | High | 神的话/耶和华的话 must be distinguished from the Chinese classical canon (经) as sage-wisdom; this is discrete, dateable, verbal communication from a personal God. Nathan’s corrected first answer (17:2–3) is a strong teaching example that even a true prophet’s personal opinion is not itself revelation. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Worship and the Levitical Order | 6:1–81; 9:17–34; 15:1–24; 23:1–32; 24:1–31; 25:1–31; 26:1–32 | High | 祭司/利未人 must be distinguished from a Buddhist monk (僧/和尚) or Daoist priest (道士) — hereditary, divinely instituted mediators within a specific covenant system, not renunciate specialists pursuing personal enlightenment. 抽签 (duty lot-casting) must be distinguished from folk fortune-stick divination (求签). | Human theologian |
| 14 | Atonement and Sacrifice | 21:1–30; 21:26 | Critical | 赎罪 must NEVER be explained through 超度 (posthumous ritual release) or merit-offsetting logic (功德 accumulation). Atonement here is God-initiated, sacrifice-mediated, directed at a LIVING covenant community’s guilt before a personal God, not cosmic-balance ritual technology. | Human theologian |
| 15 | Preparation for the Temple | 18:11; 21:28–22:1; 22:2–19 | High | David’s lifelong dedication of plunder and materials (献/奉献为圣) “for the house of the LORD,” decades before Solomon builds it, must be taught as continuous with — not separate from — the ch.17 covenant promise. | Human theologian |
| 16 | The Divinely Revealed Pattern for the Temple | 28:11–19 | High | 样式/图样 carries strong collision risk with Chinese geomantic siting principles (风水). Must be taught as a specific, historical, once-given revelation to David for one particular building (paralleling Moses at Sinai), not a timeless cosmological design-technique. | Human theologian |
| 17 | Freewill Giving and Worship | 29:1–9, 14, 17 | High | 甘心乐意的礼物/甘心献的祭 must be distinguished from merit-generating almsgiving in Chinese folk Buddhist practice (transferable 功德 to temples/monks, forbidden under the baseline’s “grace” entry). The offering is grateful response to a God who already owns everything (29:14), not a favor-purchasing transaction. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Anointing and Human Kingship (contrasted with the Messianic Title) | 11:1–3; 29:22 | Critical | 受膏/受膏者 (ordinary royal installation applied to David and Solomon) must NEVER be rendered as or conflated with the baseline’s reserved 基督/弥赛亚, restricted to Christ’s singular, eschatological Messianic office. Mandatory translator’s note at every human-king anointing. | Human theologian |
| 19 | The Kingdom of the LORD (Typological Trajectory toward the Kingdom of God) | 17:14; 28:5; 29:11, 23 | Critical | The Chronicler’s distinctive redaction (“my house and my kingdom,” not “your house and your kingdom,” contra 2 Samuel 7:16) locates ultimate security in God’s own kingdom, not dynastic survival. Must draw an explicit typological — not identity — line to the baseline’s reserved 神的国 (kingdom_of_god): the earthly Davidic kingdom is historical seed, not yet the NT’s fully realized universal reign. | Human theologian |
| 20 | Praise and Thanksgiving in Corporate Worship | 16:4–36; 23:30; 25:1–3; 29:13 | Low | 赞美/称谢 are standard, low-risk liturgical vocabulary; minor risk only of secular-gratitude readings detached from God as object. | Automated review |
| 21 | Blessing and Divine Favor (distinct from fortune-seeking) | 4:9–10 | High | 祝福/福 sit inside the same semantic field as Chinese folk fortune-seeking vocabulary (祈福). Jabez’s prayer must be taught as covenantal petition to a personal God who answers relationally, not a fortune-securing incantation — reinforcing the baseline’s existing 福音 caution. | Human theologian |
| 22 | Wholehearted Devotion to God | 28:9; 29:9, 17–19 | Medium | 尽心/完全的心 must be distinguished from Confucian moral self-cultivation toward sage-like integrity (already flagged under the baseline’s 成圣); this is relational trust toward a God who “searches all hearts,” not self-perfecting discipline. | Native speaker review |
| 23 | God’s Faithfulness across Generations | 3:1–24; 9:1–3; 16:15–17; 17:23–27 | High | Depends on keeping 耶和华 (the covenant name) lexically and theologically distinct from generic 神 throughout; God’s self-consistent, self-revealing covenant identity — sworn by his own name — guarantees faithfulness across the unbroken genealogical chain from Abraham through exile and restoration, not an impersonal principle of cosmic continuity. | Human theologian |
| 24 | God’s Provision through Mighty Men and Military Victory | 11:10–47; 12:1–40; 14:8–17; 20:1–8 | Low | 勇士 carries minor risk of a wuxia/martial-hero reading (侠客) detached from covenant context; victories are explicitly credited to God (14:11), not autonomous heroism. Light contextual note suffices. | Automated review |
Risk summary (reused verbatim from assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json): Critical: 8 · High: 12 · Medium: 3 · Low: 2 · Total requiring theologian review: 20 · Total requiring native speaker review: 3 · Total automated-only: 2.
Part B — Full-Book Chapter-by-Chapter Coverage Log

This document must be loaded alongside assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json, assets/translation_memory.json (baseline, Romans), and analysis/08_core_glossary.md before any Phase 2 translation of 1 Chronicles content begins.
Critical Risk Doctrines
The Davidic Covenant Reaffirmed
Mandarin name: 大卫之约的再次确认
Key terms: davidic_house_dynasty, house_temple, yhwh, seed_of_david, establish_firmly, kingdom_davidic
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: the core-passage covenant promise hinges on a Hebrew wordplay (בַּיִת) that Mandarin cannot preserve with a single word (殿 for temple-sense, 家/家室 for dynasty-sense); every occurrence requires a translator’s note restoring the lost pun. The promise itself must be taught as unconditional and unilaterally God-guaranteed, explicitly contrasted with (not analogized to) the revocable Mandate of Heaven (天命) that governs Chinese dynastic legitimacy.
God’s House versus David’s House (Wordplay)
Mandarin name: 神的殿与大卫的家(文字双关)
Key terms: house_temple, davidic_house_dynasty, house_of_the_lord
Review routing: Human theologian
The single Hebrew word בַּיִת carries David’s cedar palace, God’s future temple, and God’s promised dynasty for David in one lexical item — the theological engine of the chapter (David wants to build God a בית; God will instead build David a בית). Mandarin’s necessary lexical split (殿 vs. 家/家室) silently destroys this connection unless a mandatory translator’s note is attached at every occurrence.
Covenantal Sonship of Solomon (Contrasted with the Eternal Sonship of Christ)
Mandarin name: 所罗门的儿子名分(与基督永恒的儿子名分相对)
Key terms: davidic_sonship_of_solomon, son_of_god, father_of_king
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: 儿子 (Solomon’s covenantal, adoptive royal sonship) must NEVER be taught or rendered as equivalent to the baseline’s reserved Critical term 神的儿子 (Christ’s eternal, unique, co-equal divine Sonship). A mandatory translator’s note distinguishing the two is required at every occurrence of this verse across the curriculum.
The Eternal Throne Promise
Mandarin name: 永远的宝座应许
Key terms: throne, forever_olam, establish_firmly, kingdom_of_the_lord
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: 宝座 collides strongly with the Chinese imperial ‘dragon throne’ concept, explicitly transferable between dynasties under the revocable Mandate of Heaven. This must be taught as a deliberate CONTRAST, not an analogy: God’s oath-bound promise concerning David’s throne is unconditional and, per NT fulfillment (Luke 1:32-33), literally everlasting in the risen Christ.
Atonement and Sacrifice
Mandarin name: 赎罪与祭祀
Key terms: atonement, altar, angel_of_the_lord, sin
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: 赎罪 must never be rendered through or explained by 超度 (a Buddhist/Daoist posthumous ritual releasing a soul from suffering) or through folk merit-offsetting logic (功德 accumulation to offset bad deeds). Biblical atonement here is God-initiated, sacrifice-mediated, and directed at a LIVING covenant community’s guilt before a personal God — not a ritual technology for manipulating cosmic balance.
Anointing and Human Kingship (Contrasted with the Messianic Title)
Mandarin name: 受膏与人间君王的职分(与弥赛亚称号相对)
Key terms: anointing, messiah
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: 受膏/受膏者 (the ordinary royal installation sense applied to David and Solomon) must NEVER be rendered as or conflated with the baseline’s reserved term 基督/弥赛亚, restricted to the singular, eschatological, once-and-for-all Messianic office fulfilled exclusively in Christ. A mandatory translator’s note applies at every human-king anointing occurrence.
The Kingdom of the LORD (Typological Trajectory toward the Kingdom of God)
Mandarin name: 耶和华的国(预表通向神的国的历史轨迹)
Key terms: kingdom_of_the_lord, kingdom_davidic, yhwh
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: the Chronicler’s distinctive redaction (‘my house and my kingdom,’ not ‘your house and your kingdom,’ contra 2 Samuel 7:16) locates ultimate security in God’s own kingdom rather than dynastic survival. Teaching material must draw the explicit typological line to the baseline’s reserved ‘kingdom_of_god’ (神的国) without collapsing the two: the earthly Davidic kingdom is the historical seed, not yet the NT’s fully-realized universal reign.
High Risk Doctrines
Covenant Unfaithfulness and Exile
Mandarin name: 背约与被掳
Key terms: covenant_trespass, exile
Review routing: Human theologian
干犯 (ma’al) and 被掳 (galah) must be taught as a personal, covenant-keeping God’s disciplinary response to covenant treachery, not as impersonal karmic retribution (报应) accruing across a lineage — a distinct risk from the baseline’s general ‘sin’ (罪) caution, since this is specifically relational betrayal rather than generic wrongdoing.
Legitimate versus Illegitimate Spiritual Inquiry
Mandarin name: 求问耶和华与交鬼行为的分辨
Key terms: inquire_of_the_lord, medium_necromancer
Review routing: Human theologian
求问 (positive, directed to 耶和华) must be sharply distinguished from 交鬼的 (consulting a medium) and from divinatory practices already forbidden in the baseline (求签, 问卜, 占卜). Given the continued cultural presence of mediumship practices (扶乩, 问米) among Chinese readers’ families, this doctrine must be taught pastorally, not merely polemically.
Divine Election of David’s House
Mandarin name: 神拣选大卫家
Key terms: election, davidic_covenant_ruler_designation
Review routing: Human theologian
拣选 must be taught as God’s personal, gracious choice among many possible candidates (28:5, ‘of all my sons…he hath chosen Solomon’), never as an impersonal cosmic mandate (天命) or fated destiny (命运/缘分) — this chapter is one of the book’s strongest concrete illustrations of the baseline’s existing caution on this term.
The Ark of the Covenant and Reverent Worship
Mandarin name: 约柜与敬虔的敬拜
Key terms: ark_of_the_covenant, anger_of_the_lord, consecrate, ordinance
Review routing: Human theologian
约柜 must not be confused with a household ancestral shrine box (神主牌/祖先牌位); it is the throne-symbol of the living, active covenant God, not a container for a deceased ancestor’s spirit. Uzza’s death must be taught as God’s consistent holiness requiring reverence and obedience to his prescribed 定例/规矩, not as capricious divine temper or a folk-religious taboo-violation fear.
God’s Steadfast Covenant Love (Chesed)
Mandarin name: 神向大卫家所存的慈爱
Key terms: steadfast_love
Review routing: Human theologian
慈爱 (chesed) must be kept distinct from the baseline’s 恩典 (grace, unmerited favor apart from any prior relationship): chesed is specifically covenant-LOYAL, promise-keeping love toward an existing covenant partner, withdrawn from Saul’s house but never finally withdrawn from David’s line. Must not be reduced to generic 爱, which lacks the covenant-loyalty entailment.
Inspiration of Scripture / Prophetic Revelation
Mandarin name: 圣经的默示与先知的话
Key terms: word_of_god, prophet, vision
Review routing: Human theologian
神的话/耶和华的话 must be distinguished from the Chinese classical canon (经, jīng, as in the Confucian Five Classics or Daoist Daodejing), authoritative as sage-wisdom rather than as discrete, verbal communication from a personal God on a specific occasion. Nathan’s corrected first answer (17:2-3) is a strong teaching example that even a true prophet’s personal opinion is not itself revelation.
Worship and the Levitical Order
Mandarin name: 敬拜与利未人的次序
Key terms: priest, levite, consecrate, service_ministry, divisions_courses, lot_casting, gatekeeper
Review routing: Human theologian
祭司/利未人 must be clearly distinguished from a Buddhist monk (僧/和尚) or Daoist priest (道士) — hereditary, divinely instituted mediators within a specific covenant system, not renunciate religious specialists pursuing personal enlightenment. 抽签 (lot-casting for duty assignment) must be distinguished from folk fortune-stick divination (求签).
Preparation for the Temple
Mandarin name: 为建殿所做的预备
Key terms: house_temple, house_of_the_lord, dedicate, zion
Review routing: Human theologian
David’s lifelong dedication of plunder and materials (献/奉献为圣) ‘for the house of the LORD’ — decades before Solomon builds it — must be taught as continuous with, not separate from, the covenant promise of ch. 17; temple-preparation is David’s provision for what God promised Solomon would build.
The Divinely Revealed Pattern for the Temple
Mandarin name: 神所启示建殿的样式
Key terms: pattern
Review routing: Human theologian
样式/图样 carries a strong cultural collision risk with Chinese geomantic siting/design principles (风水, fengshui) concerned with cosmically auspicious layout. Must be taught as a specific, historical, once-given revelation to David for one particular building — analogous to Moses receiving the tabernacle’s pattern at Sinai — not a timeless cosmological design-technique available to any builder.
Freewill Giving and Worship
Mandarin name: 甘心乐意的献祭与敬拜
Key terms: freewill_offering, grace_contrast
Review routing: Human theologian
甘心乐意的礼物/甘心献的祭 must be distinguished from merit-generating almsgiving in Chinese folk Buddhist practice (giving to temples/monks accrues transferable 功德, forbidden in the baseline under ‘grace’). The offering is a grateful response to a God who already owns everything (29:14), not a transaction purchasing future favor.
Blessing and Divine Favor (Distinct from Fortune-Seeking)
Mandarin name: 神所赐的祝福(有别于求福文化)
Key terms: bless_blessing
Review routing: Human theologian
祝福/福 sit inside the same semantic field as Chinese folk fortune-seeking vocabulary (祈福, ‘praying for fortune/luck’). Jabez’s prayer must be taught as covenantal petition to a personal God who answers relationally, not as a fortune-securing incantation or lucky-charm request — directly reinforcing the baseline’s existing caution under ‘gospel’ (福音).
God’s Faithfulness across Generations
Mandarin name: 神历世历代的信实
Key terms: yhwh, everlasting_covenant, steadfast_love, genealogy_descendants, dwell_settle
Review routing: Human theologian
This overarching doctrine depends on keeping 耶和华 (the covenant name) lexically and theologically distinct from the generic 神 throughout the book; it is God’s self-consistent, self-revealing covenant identity — sworn by his own name — that guarantees faithfulness across the unbroken genealogical chain from Abraham through exile and restoration, not an impersonal cosmic principle of continuity.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Genealogy and the Continuity of God’s People
Mandarin name: 族谱记载中神子民的传承
Key terms: genealogy_descendants, beget, clan_family, dwell_settle
Review routing: Native speaker review
The genealogical list-marker vocabulary (…的子孙/…的后代) carries a real but moderate risk of importing ancestor-veneration overtones (祖先/祭祖) into what is historical record establishing covenant continuity, not ritual genealogy for ancestor worship. Consistency across nine chapters of lists is the primary translation challenge, not doctrinal collision.
Divine Reordering of Birthright
Mandarin name: 长子名分的神圣重新安排
Key terms: birthright
Review routing: Native speaker review
长子的名分 must not be taught as a status that can be re-earned through merit; the transfer from Reuben to Joseph’s sons is God’s sovereign reordering of human expectation, resonant with but distinct from the 拣选 (election) doctrine.
Wholehearted Devotion to God
Mandarin name: 尽心事奉神
Key terms: wholehearted_devotion, heart_intention
Review routing: Native speaker review
尽心/完全的心 must be distinguished from Confucian moral self-cultivation toward sage-like integrity (already flagged in the baseline under ‘sanctification,’ 成圣); this wholeheartedness is relational devotion and trust toward a personal God who ‘searches all hearts,’ not a self-perfecting discipline.
Low Risk Doctrines
Praise and Thanksgiving in Corporate Worship
Mandarin name: 敬拜中的赞美与称谢
Key terms: praise, give_thanks_liturgical, thanksgiving
Review routing: Automated review
赞美/称谢 are standard, low-risk liturgical vocabulary; minor risk only of secular gratitude readings without explicit reference to God as the object of praise.
God’s Provision through Mighty Men and Military Victory
Mandarin name: 神藉勇士和战争所施的供应
Key terms: mighty_man, break_through_victory
Review routing: Automated review
勇士 carries a minor risk of being read through a wuxia/martial-hero lens (侠客) detached from covenant context; victories are explicitly credited to God (14:11), not autonomous heroism — a light contextual note suffices.
Referenced passages
