Doctrine Analysis

11 — Doctrine Analysis: 2 Chronicles (Mandarin Destination Language Package)

Purpose

This document provides the full doctrine matrix for the entire book of 2 Chronicles (chapters 1–36), consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (same doctrine set, same risk tiers, same review routing). The core passage (2 Chronicles 7:11–22) is the theological anchor of the curriculum but not its scope boundary: every chapter has been reviewed for load-bearing doctrinal content. Chapters that introduce no new doctrine or term beyond what is already registered are explicitly marked “reviewed, no new load” rather than silently omitted.

This document must be read alongside 08_core_glossary.md (term-level detail) and assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (machine-enforced risk routing for Phase 2).

Part A: Full-Book Chapter Coverage

Cross-Reference

See 08_core_glossary.md for full term-level renderings, alternatives rejected, and disambiguation notes (especially §C, items 1–6, which apply across nearly every doctrine in this matrix). See assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json for the machine-enforced routing table used in Phase 2.

Critical Risk Doctrines

Temple Worship and God’s Presence

Mandarin name: 圣殿敬拜与神的同在
Key terms: temple, glory_fills_temple, ark_of_the_covenant, most_holy_place, eyes_open_attentive, consecration_cultic
Review routing: Human theologian

殿/圣殿 must never be rendered 庙/寺/道观 (folk, Buddhist, Daoist temple terms); God’s glory-presence (耶和华的荣耀充满了殿) must not be read through folk concepts of an idol’s ling/efficacy (灵验) residing in a consecrated statue. This is the unique, personal presence of the one true God, not one numinous site among many.

Sacrificial Worship

Mandarin name: 献祭敬拜
Key terms: sacrifice
Review routing: Human theologian

祭祀/献祭/燔祭 unavoidably share vocabulary with Chinese ancestor-offering (祭祖) and folk incense-offering (烧香/拜拜). Every occurrence must reinforce that the sole recipient is YHWH and the purpose is covenant atonement, not appeasement of ancestors or multiple deities.

Conditional Blessing and National Repentance

Mandarin name: 有条件的福气与全国性悔改
Key terms: humble_themselves, seek_gods_face, turn_from_evil_return, forgive_sin, heal_the_land, prayer
Review routing: Human theologian

This is the theological hinge of the entire book. 自卑 (the required rendering of ‘humble themselves’) means ‘have an inferiority complex’ in ordinary modern Mandarin, nearly the opposite of voluntary repentant submission before God; every occurrence must carry a clarifying gloss. 寻求我的面 must be distinguished from divination practices (求签/问卜) and from 求神拜佛; God invites direct relational seeking, not ritual manipulation of favor.

The Exile as Covenant Consequence

Mandarin name: 被掳作为立约的后果
Key terms: exile_captivity, wrath_of_the_lord, forsake, cast_out_of_sight
Review routing: Human theologian

灾祸/被掳 must be sharply distinguished from 报应 (impersonal karmic retribution) and 天谴 (‘Heaven’s impersonal curse’); 从我眼前丢弃 establishes that God’s temple-presence, though real, is conditionally sustained and not mechanically fused to the building the way a deity’s spirit is fused to a consecrated idol via 开光. The exile is the personal, judicial, previously-warned response of a covenant God, not blind cosmic payback or natural calamity.

High Risk Doctrines

Divine Theophany / God’s Appearing

Mandarin name: 神的显现
Key terms: theophany
Review routing: Human theologian

显现 must not be explained via 显灵 (a folk deity’s manifestation/efficacious response at a temple); God’s appearing to Solomon is personal self-disclosure by the sovereign God, not evidence of an idol’s spiritual potency.

Name Theology: God’s Name Dwelling in the Temple

Mandarin name: 神的名居于圣殿
Key terms: name_of_the_lord
Review routing: Human theologian

我的名 must be distinguished from ancestral name-tablets (牌位) venerated in ancestral halls (祠堂); God’s Name dwelling signifies his own active presence toward his people, not a memorial object receiving ritual veneration from descendants — the direction of care is reversed from ancestor veneration.

Divine Forgiveness

Mandarin name: 神的赦免
Key terms: forgive_sin
Review routing: Human theologian

赦免 must not be conflated with Buddhist karma-cancellation through accumulated merit, nor with ritual exorcism of misfortune (法事消灾). This is personal, relational, legal pardon granted by the one true God upon genuine repentance.

Faithful and Unfaithful Kings

Mandarin name: 忠心与不忠的君王
Key terms: royal_throne, other_gods, idols, worship_bow_down, high_places, detestable_practices
Review routing: Human theologian

The recurring regnal-evaluation formula (‘did what was right/evil in the eyes of the LORD’) must use 正/善 or 恶, never 义 (baseline’s Critical-risk forensic-righteousness term); importing 义 here would wrongly attach justification-doctrine or Confucian-virtue weight to a simple narrative evaluation formula repeated dozens of times.

Davidic Covenant and Throne

Mandarin name: 大卫之约与王位
Key terms: royal_throne, covenant, david
Review routing: Human theologian

国位/王位 must be distinguished from the revocable Mandate of Heaven (天命) that legitimizes any Chinese dynasty; the Davidic throne rests on God’s unconditional promise to one line, not a transferable cosmic mandate contingent on ongoing worthiness.

Idolatry and Covenant Exclusivity

Mandarin name: 拜偶像与立约的排他性
Key terms: other_gods, idols, asherah, worship_bow_down
Review routing: Human theologian

别的神 and 偶像 must reinforce monotheistic exclusivity against a cultural backdrop of normal, non-exclusive multi-deity and ancestor veneration; note 偶像 also commonly means ‘celebrity idol’ in modern fan-culture usage, so the religious cultic sense must be made explicit every time.

Reform under Hezekiah and Josiah

Mandarin name: 希西家与约西亚的改革
Key terms: cleanse_purify, book_of_the_law, passover, tithe
Review routing: Human theologian

洁净 (cleanse) must never be confused with the near-homophone/near-synonym 清净 (qīngjìng), which the baseline explicitly rejects for ‘holy’ due to its Daoist/Buddhist ritual-meditative-purity associations; the two characters carry very different senses and must be kept visually and doctrinally distinct in typesetting and teaching.

Divine Wrath and Judgment

Mandarin name: 神的忿怒与审判
Key terms: wrath_of_the_lord
Review routing: Human theologian

怒气/忿怒 must be distinguished from impersonal cosmic retribution (天谴); God’s wrath in 2 Chronicles is personal, covenantal, proportionate, and explicitly revocable upon genuine repentance (cf. 7:13-14), not a fixed impersonal fate.

Hope of Restoration

Mandarin name: 复兴的盼望
Key terms: turn_from_evil_return, remnant, stirred_spirit_of_cyrus, deliver_save_national
Review routing: Human theologian

归回 completes the shuv wordplay begun at 7:14’s 转离 (‘turn from wicked ways’); this must be taught as the answering half of one Hebrew concept, not a coincidental homonym. God’s sovereign stirring of Cyrus’s heart must not be softened into generic ‘inspiration’ readable as impersonal fate (天意); it is the same personal covenant God of 7:12-22 acting even through a pagan ruler.

Providence and Sovereign Rule

Mandarin name: 神的护理与至高治理
Key terms: providence, battle_belongs_to_god, stirred_spirit_of_cyrus
Review routing: Human theologian

神的护理 (reused from baseline) must retain personal, purposive governance; must not be softened into 天意 (‘heaven’s intention’), the common impersonal fatalistic phrase in everyday Chinese speech. 争战的胜败不在乎你们乃在乎神 must retain its stark contrast between human strength and divine action, not be softened into cooperative-effort language.

Wisdom as a Divine Gift

Mandarin name: 智慧为神所赐的恩赐
Key terms: wisdom
Review routing: Human theologian

智 is one of the Confucian Five Constant Virtues (仁义礼智信), cultivated through learning and moral effort; Solomon’s wisdom must be taught as an undeserved sovereign gift granted in answer to prayer (parallel to grace/恩典), not a self-cultivated Confucian achievement.

Covenant Loyalty (Chesed)

Mandarin name: 立约的慈爱
Key terms: lovingkindness_chesed
Review routing: Native speaker review

慈爱 must be distinguished from 人情 (transactional reciprocal favor expecting eventual repayment, a pervasive Chinese social-relational concept); God’s chesed is freely, unilaterally covenant-committed love, not a ledger entry awaiting repayment.

Prayer and Seeking God

Mandarin name: 祷告与寻求神
Key terms: prayer, seek_gods_face
Review routing: Human theologian

寻求我的面 must be distinguished from 求签/问卜 (drawing a temple fortune-stick / consulting a diviner) and from 求神拜佛 (‘petitioning gods and Buddhas’); this is direct relational address to the one true God, not ritual manipulation of an impersonal or plural divine favor.

Kingship and Theocracy

Mandarin name: 君权与神治
Key terms: kingdom_of_the_lord, royal_throne
Review routing: Human theologian

耶和华的国 must be distinguished from a purely political dynasty legitimized by the impersonal Mandate of Heaven (天命); the Davidic throne is explicitly identified as YHWH’s own kingdom administered by, not owned by, David’s human line.

Holiness and Priestly Boundaries

Mandarin name: 圣洁与祭司职分的界限
Key terms: holy, most_holy_place, consecration_cultic
Review routing: Human theologian

至圣所 and 分别为圣 must be taught as a unique, restricted space/status of divine presence, not a generic ‘most sacred inner chamber’ accessible via merit, rank, or fee, as in some folk or Buddhist temple inner-shrine practices; Uzziah’s judgment (ch. 26) demonstrates these boundaries are God-given and non-negotiable.

Medium Risk Doctrines

Rediscovery of God’s Word

Mandarin name: 重新发现神的话
Key terms: book_of_the_law
Review routing: Native speaker review

律法书 rediscovered as the catalyst for national reform; must be presented as God’s own authoritative covenant word, not as sage-wisdom literature comparable to the Confucian Classics (经) or Daoist Daodejing, which are authoritative by virtue of sage authorship rather than divine speech.

The Prophetic Word

Mandarin name: 先知的话
Key terms: prophet, prophecy, false_prophet, spirit_of_god_ot
Review routing: Native speaker review

先知/预言 reused exactly from baseline; distinguish from 算命先生 (fortune-teller) and 算卦/占卜 (divination). 假先知 (new term) must be distinguished as sycophantic false prophecy specifically, a distinct failure mode from generic divination.

Feasts and Covenant Worship

Mandarin name: 节期与立约敬拜
Key terms: passover
Review routing: Native speaker review

逾越节 is an established CUV term; teach the Exodus redemptive-historical background (deliverance from Egypt), not merely festival mechanics, so the feast is not read as a generic seasonal folk celebration.

Tithe and Provision for Worship

Mandarin name: 十分之一与敬拜的供应
Key terms: tithe
Review routing: Native speaker review

奉献 also carries ordinary secular ‘donate/contribute’ usage in modern Mandarin; context must clarify the specifically religious, covenant-obligated dedication sense intended in these organizational chapters.

Remnant and Preservation

Mandarin name: 余民的保存
Key terms: remnant
Review routing: Native speaker review

余民 must be distinguished from mere chance survivors; this is providential preservation of the covenant people (see 神的护理), not luck or coincidence.

Trust in God versus Self-Reliance

Mandarin name: 倚靠神而非倚靠自己
Key terms: trust_rely
Review routing: Native speaker review

倚靠 complements baseline 信心 with a practical-reliance nuance across the book’s many battle narratives; ensure it is not read as a purely military-strategic term devoid of theological trust in God’s character.

Divine Glory versus Royal Splendor

Mandarin name: 神的荣耀与王的荣华之别
Key terms: glory_fills_temple, royal_splendor
Review routing: Native speaker review

荣耀 (divine glory) and 荣华 (royal/worldly splendor) must remain visibly distinct Mandarin terms; Solomon’s derivative royal magnificence must never be equated with, or presented as continuous with, the glory that filled the temple in ch. 5.

Low Risk Doctrines

Thanksgiving and Praise

Mandarin name: 感恩与颂赞
Key terms: thanksgiving
Review routing: Automated review

感恩 (reused from baseline) is standard vocabulary; minor risk of generic secular gratitude without explicit reference to God as the object, especially in the recurring liturgical refrain ‘he is good, his mercy endures forever.‘

Administrative and Institutional Details

Mandarin name: 行政与体制性细节
Key terms: forced_labor, leprosy
Review routing: Automated review

Minor narrative/administrative details (forced labor policy, skin disease terminology) carry low doctrinal weight; standard established CUV terms apply with minimal collision risk.
