Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — Matthew 1–28 (English → Mandarin)
Purpose
This document provides the full doctrine matrix for the Matthew curriculum, extending Phase 1 Steps 4–5. It is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: every doctrine, risk tier, and review-routing decision below is reproduced exactly from that registry — this document adds the supporting-passage detail, translation-risk rationale in narrative form, and a chapter-by-chapter coverage confirmation across the entire book of Matthew, so that full-book coverage (PRD Phase 1 mandate) is demonstrable even where the core passage (Matthew 5:1-12, the Beatitudes) remains the theological anchor.
No doctrine, tier, or routing decision in this document may be treated as authoritative if it conflicts with doctrine_risk_registry.json. That file is the enforcement artifact for Phase 2; this document is its analytical companion.
Part A — Full Doctrine Matrix
| # | Doctrine | Mandarin Doctrine Name | Supporting Passages (Matthew) | Risk | Translation Risk (Summary) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Kingdom of Heaven | 天国 | 3:2; 4:17; 5:3-12; 6:10, 33; 13:1-52; 19:24; 21:31, 43 | Critical | 天 collides with 天命 (Mandate of Heaven), 天意 (fatalism), 天庭 (mythic bureaucratic Heavenly Court). Must be taught as identical to baseline 神的国. | Human theologian |
| 2 | The Beatitudes’ Reversal of Fortune Categories | 天国八福的逆转 | 5:3-11 | Critical | 有福’s root 福 sits inside folk-fortune vocabulary (福气, 五福临门); the passage’s rhetorical force depends on subverting, not endorsing, this worldview. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David | 大卫的子孙与应许的弥赛亚 | 1:1, 17; 9:27; 12:23; 15:22; 20:30-31; 21:9, 15; 22:42 | Critical | Titular 大卫的子孙 risks collapsing into ancestor-veneration descendant obligation (祭祖 framing of 子孙) rather than forward-looking royal-messianic fulfillment. | Human theologian |
| 4 | The Virgin Birth and Incarnation | 童女怀孕与道成肉身 | 1:18-23 | Critical | 童女 must never soften to generic “young woman”; 以马内利 must identify Jesus himself as God with us; 道成肉身 reapplies the baseline’s 道/Daoist-Way caution. | Human theologian |
| 5 | The Worship Due to Christ Alone | 唯独敬拜基督 | 2:2, 11; 14:33; 28:9, 17 | Critical | 拜/敬拜 is the identical verb used for ancestor and idol veneration in Chinese religious life; every instance directed at Jesus must be taught as exclusive worship due to God alone. | Human theologian |
| 6 | The Deity and Sonship of Christ | 基督的神性与儿子名分 | 3:17; 14:33; 16:16; 17:5; 22:41-45; 26:63-64; 27:54 | Critical | 神的儿子 must never soften toward 天子 (“Son of Heaven,” the imperial Mandate-of-Heaven title), which would reduce unique deity to an exalted ruler. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Jesus as the Son of Man | 人子的身份 | 8:20; 12:8; 16:13, 27-28; 24:27, 30, 37, 39; 26:64 | Critical | 人子 risks under-translation as merely “a human being,” missing the Daniel 7 dominion-figure background; must not be confused with Confucian 君子. | Human theologian |
| 8 | Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy | 旧约预言的应验 | 1:22-23; 2:15, 17, 23; 4:14; 5:17; 8:17; 12:17; 13:14, 35; 21:4; 26:56; 27:9 | High | 应验 must be taught against Chinese cyclical dynastic historiography (治乱循环); this is linear, one-time, unrepeatable fulfillment. | Human theologian |
| 9 | The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching | 耶稣教导的权柄 | 7:28-29; 9:6, 8; 10:1; 21:23-27; 28:18 | High | 权柄 must stay distinct from coercive political power (权力) and from forbidden supernatural-force terms (气, 法力, 神通); it is inherent divine right, not delegated mandate. | Human theologian |
| 10 | Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees | 胜过法利赛人的义 | 5:6, 8, 20, 48; 6:1-18; 15:1-20; 23:1-39 | Critical | 义 collides with the Confucian virtue of the same name; risk of hearing “exceeding righteousness” as more intense Confucian moral effort rather than Spirit-given heart righteousness. | Human theologian |
| 11 | Fulfillment of the Law and Rejection of Nullifying Tradition | 律法的成全与人的遗传 | 5:17-19; 15:1-9; 22:36-40; 23:23 | High | 成全 must not be read as abolishing the Law; 古人的遗传 critique targets specific traditions nullifying God’s word, not filial reverence for elders (孝) as such. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Love and the Great Commandment | 爱与最大的命令 | 5:43-48; 22:37-40 | High | Ordinary Mandarin 爱 lacks ἀγάπη’s specificity as deliberate, self-giving, even enemy-directed commitment; risks reduction to sentiment. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Hypocrisy and True Piety | 假冒为善与真实的敬虔 | 6:1-18; 23:1-39 | Medium | 假冒为善的人 connects to live 面子 (face) dynamics; hypocrisy is substituting face-preservation for genuine devotion to God. | Native speaker review |
| 14 | Wealth and the Rival Master Mammon | 财富与玛门 | 6:19-24; 19:16-24 | High | 玛门 directly confronts the actively practiced veneration of 财神 (God of Wealth), one of the most widely worshipped folk deities in Chinese popular religion. | Human theologian |
| 15 | Repentance | 悔改 | 3:2, 8; 4:17; 11:20-21; 12:41 | High | 悔改 must be distinguished from Buddhist ritual-confession 忏悔, a karma-purifying rite; biblical repentance is relational turning to a personal God. | Human theologian |
| 16 | Baptism | 洗礼 | 3:6, 11, 13-17; 28:19 | Medium | Must be distinguished from Daoist/folk ritual purification washing or Buddhist ritual bathing of images (浴佛); a once-for-all sign, not repeatable purification. | Native speaker review |
| 17 | Temptation and Spiritual Conflict | 试探与属灵争战 | 4:1-11; 12:22-32 (Beelzebul); 13:39; 16:23 | High | 魔鬼 contains 鬼 (ghost), risking assimilation to folk wandering-spirit categories; the devil is a specific, personal, already-doomed being, best anchored to 撒但 in weighty contexts. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus | 作门徒的代价 | 4:18-22; 5:1; 8:18-22; 10:37-39; 11:28-30; 16:24-26; 19:16-29 | High | 门徒 also names a martial-arts/Daoist master’s lineage disciple (师门); 十字架 must retain shameful execution/atonement referent, not become a generic “burden” metaphor. | Human theologian |
| 19 | Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment | 永生与永刑 | 19:16, 29; 25:46 | Critical | 永生 collides with the Daoist/folk physical-immortality quest (长生不老); 永刑 must be distinguished from temporary folk-Buddhist purgatorial hell imagery (十八层地狱) preceding rebirth. | Human theologian |
| 20 | The Church and Church Discipline | 教会与教会纪律 | 16:18-19; 18:15-20 | Critical | 天国的钥匙 risks folk-Buddhist underworld-gatekeeper imagery (阎王/地府); 捆绑/释放 risks Daoist talismanic binding-ritual reading (符咒). | Human theologian |
| 21 | Forgiveness Within the Church | 教会中的饶恕 | 6:12, 14-15; 18:21-35 | Medium | 饶恕/赦免 must be distinguished from karmic-debt-cancellation intuition (报应/功德); forgiveness is relational, grounded in God’s own prior grace. | Native speaker review |
| 22 | The Kingdom Parables and Hidden Mysteries | 天国的比喻与奥秘 | 13:1-52 | Medium | 比喻 is not a self-evident fable (寓言); 奥秘 must be distinguished from Daoist inner-alchemy “secret knowledge” (丹道秘诀) gated to initiates. | Native speaker review |
| 23 | Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit | 亵渎圣灵 | 12:22-32 | Critical | Pastorally weighty; must be taught precisely as settled, willful, Spirit-resistant rejection, never confused with ordinary doubt or sin. Always paired with the baseline’s ban on 灵 alone for 圣灵. | Human theologian |
| 24 | Election and Calling | 拣选与呼召 | 22:14; 24:22, 24, 31 | High | 蒙拣选的 must never suggest impersonal fate/luck/karma (天命, 命运, 缘分); God’s election is personal and gracious. | Human theologian |
| 25 | Judgment and the End of the Age | 审判与世界的末了 | 13:39-43, 49-50; 24:1-51; 25:1-46 | Critical | 世界的末了 must be distinguished from the Buddhist kalpa (劫) cycle and cyclical dynastic historiography; 审判 must be distinguished from impersonal karmic retribution (报应). | Human theologian |
| 26 | The Second Coming of Christ | 基督的降临 | 24:3, 27, 37, 39 | Critical | 降临 must not assimilate to a bodhisattva’s/deity’s temporary, repeatable descent (下凡); the parousia is singular, final, visible, and glorious. | Human theologian |
| 27 | Christ’s Ransom and Atoning Death | 赎价与救赎 | 20:28; 26:26-28; 27:51 | Critical | 赎价 collides with the Buddhist folk-merit practice of 放生/赎命; Christ’s ransom is a substitutionary death-price paid once for all, received by faith apart from merit. | Human theologian |
| 28 | The Resurrection of Christ | 基督的复活 | 16:21; 17:9, 23; 22:23-33; 27:52-53; 28:1-10 | Critical | 复活 must never be rendered with 轮回, 投胎, or 还魂; bodily, historical, once-for-all — directly contested in-narrative by the Sadducees (22:23-33). | Human theologian |
| 29 | Believers Called Sons of God | 信徒得称为神的儿子 | 5:9 | Critical | 称为神的儿子 must never be confused with the baseline’s Critical 神的儿子 reserved for Christ’s unique, eternal Sonship; believers’ sonship is adoptive, plural, derivative. | Human theologian |
| 30 | The Great Commission | 大使命 | 28:16-20 | Critical | 使…作门徒 carries the same lineage-transmission risk (师门) as 门徒; the trinitarian baptismal formula requires an explicit clarifying note reinforcing rather than dividing the Godhead. | Human theologian |
| 31 | The Universal Scope of the Great Commission | 向万民宣教 | 24:14; 28:19 | High | 万民 must stay distinct from baseline 外邦人 (which excludes Israel); scope is comprehensively inclusive. Cultural sensitivity to the historic 洋教 stigma applies. | Human theologian |
| 32 | The Keys of the Kingdom and Binding/Loosing Authority | 天国的钥匙与捆绑释放 | 16:19; 18:18 | High | Must be taught as declarative and derivative — exercised under Christ’s own 权柄 — never as independent priestly or magical power. | Human theologian |
| 33 | Apostleship and Sending | 使徒的职分与差遣 | 10:1-5; 28:16-20 | Low | Established, specific term; minor risk of conflation with a martial-arts/Daoist “grandmaster” figure (宗师) if paraphrased loosely. | Automated review |
| 34 | Prophetic Continuity and Persecution | 先知的传统与逼迫 | 5:12; 23:29-37 | Low | Established, low-risk terms; minor risk only if 逼迫 is read through a 报应 (misfortune/karma) lens rather than unjust hostility for righteousness’ sake. | Automated review |

Part C — Notes for Phase 2 Routing
- All 17 Critical-tier doctrines require human theologian review for every occurrence, per the escalation rules already established in
12_ai_translation_requirements.md(Romans baseline) and carried forward unchanged for Matthew. - The 11 High-tier doctrines likewise require human theologian review; none may be downgraded to native-speaker-only review regardless of apparent segment simplicity, consistent with the baseline’s Glossary Enforcement Priority Order.
- The 4 Medium-tier doctrines (Hypocrisy and True Piety; Baptism; Forgiveness Within the Church; Kingdom Parables and Hidden Mysteries) route to native speaker review.
- The 2 Low-tier doctrines (Apostleship and Sending; Prophetic Continuity and Persecution) route to automated review only.
- This matrix must be loaded alongside
doctrine_risk_registry.jsonand the Matthew-extendedtranslation_memory.json(Step 8 core glossary) for every Phase 2 translation session.
Critical Risk Doctrines
The Kingdom of Heaven
Mandarin name: 天国
Key terms: kingdom of heaven, kingdom of God, blessed, poor in spirit, inherit the earth
Review routing: Human theologian
天国 borrows 天 (tiān), which carries three specific pre-Christian collision risks: 天命 (Mandate of Heaven, an impersonal cosmic legitimacy principle), 天意 (impersonal fatalistic ‘Heaven’s intention’), and 天庭 (the mythological bureaucratic Heavenly Court of Chinese popular religion). Without explicit teaching, readers may absorb 天国 into any of these frameworks rather than the personal reign of the one true God. Must always be taught as identical to 神的国.
The Beatitudes’ Reversal of Fortune Categories
Mandarin name: 天国八福的逆转
Key terms: blessed, makarios, 有福
Review routing: Human theologian
有福’s root character 福 (fú) sits at the center of Chinese folk-fortune vocabulary (福气, 五福临门, 福禄寿三星) naming earned or fate-given worldly prosperity, longevity, and rank. The Beatitudes’ entire rhetorical force depends on subverting exactly this everyday notion — declaring ‘blessed’ precisely those folk-fortune categories would call unfortunate. Every occurrence requires the reversal to be taught explicitly, or the core passage’s thesis is inverted into a prosperity promise.
Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David
Mandarin name: 大卫的子孙与应许的弥赛亚
Key terms: Son of David, Christ, seed of David, King of the Jews
Review routing: Human theologian
The titular 大卫的子孙 must be distinguished from the baseline’s genealogical 大卫的后裔; Chinese ancestor-veneration culture uses 子孙 heavily for descendants owing ritual duties to forebears (祭祖), risking a reading of Jesus’ Davidic sonship as ritual lineage obligation rather than a forward-looking royal-messianic fulfillment of covenant promise.
The Virgin Birth and Incarnation
Mandarin name: 童女怀孕与道成肉身
Key terms: virgin, Immanuel, Holy Spirit, incarnation
Review routing: Human theologian
童女 must never be softened to a generic ‘young woman’ (少女/女子), which would sever the sign of divine action from the text. 以马内利 (‘God with us’) must be taught as identifying Jesus himself as God present in the flesh, not an honorific for a specially favored man; 道成肉身’s shared root 道 with Daoist metaphysical ‘the Way’ requires the standing baseline caution be reapplied here.
The Worship Due to Christ Alone
Mandarin name: 唯独敬拜基督
Key terms: worship, proskyneo, Son of God
Review routing: Human theologian
拜/敬拜 is the identical verb used throughout Chinese religious life for bowing to ancestors (拜祖先) and idols in a temple (拜佛, 拜神) without implying exclusive deity status in the object. Every instance of Jesus receiving 拜 must be explicitly taught as worship due to God alone, or the term is absorbed into the broad, non-exclusive veneration 拜 covers in ordinary Chinese practice.
The Deity and Sonship of Christ
Mandarin name: 基督的神性与儿子名分
Key terms: Son of God, beloved Son, Christ, the Son of the living God
Review routing: Human theologian
神的儿子 is reserved exclusively for Christ’s unique, eternal, co-equal Sonship and must never be softened toward 天子 (‘Son of Heaven,’ the historic imperial title legitimized by the Mandate of Heaven), which would reduce Christ’s unique deity to an especially exalted, semi-divine ruler.
Jesus as the Son of Man
Mandarin name: 人子的身份
Key terms: Son of Man
Review routing: Human theologian
人子 risks under-translation: it could be heard as simply ‘a human being’ or a humble self-reference, entirely missing the Daniel 7 background in which ‘one like a son of man’ is a heavenly, dominion-receiving figure. It must also not be confused with the Confucian moral-achievement ideal 君子 (‘the noble/exemplary man’).
Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Mandarin name: 胜过法利赛人的义
Key terms: righteousness, hunger and thirst for righteousness, pure in heart, perfect, Pharisees
Review routing: Human theologian
义 collides with the Confucian virtue 义 (仁义礼智信), a social-ethical duty cultivated by moral effort; Jesus’ call to a ‘righteousness exceeding the Pharisees’ risks being heard as a demand for more intense Confucian-style moral effort rather than a Spirit-given righteousness of the heart that surpasses even sincere, effortful rule-keeping.
Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment
Mandarin name: 永生与永刑
Key terms: eternal life, eternal punishment
Review routing: Human theologian
永生 collides with the prominent Chinese Daoist/folk quest for physical immortality (长生不老) pursued through alchemy, elixirs, and technique — must be taught as resurrection life with God through grace-empowered faith, not extended biological life. 永刑 must be distinguished from folk-Buddhist hell imagery (十八层地狱), typically a temporary purificatory ordeal preceding rebirth (轮回); a rendering implying eventual release would contradict the finality both terms are built, in the same verse, to guarantee.
The Church and Church Discipline
Mandarin name: 教会与教会纪律
Key terms: church, keys of the kingdom, bind and loose, brother
Review routing: Human theologian
天国的钥匙 risks conflation with folk-Buddhist/folk-religious underworld-gatekeeper imagery (阎王/地府) or a ritual specialist’s magical key controlling blessing. 捆绑/释放 must not be read through Daoist talismanic binding-ritual practice (符咒). Both must be taught as declarative, corporate, Christ-derived authority, not independent priestly or magical power.
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
Mandarin name: 亵渎圣灵
Key terms: blasphemy, Holy Spirit, unforgivable sin
Review routing: Human theologian
This is a pastorally weighty and sensitive doctrine; mistranslation risks either inducing needless despair in troubled consciences or trivializing a genuine, categorical warning. Must be taught precisely as settled, willful, Spirit-resistant rejection of Jesus’ identity, never confused with ordinary doubt or sin, and always paired with the baseline’s Critical caution never to render 圣灵 as 灵 alone.
Judgment and the End of the Age
Mandarin name: 审判与世界的末了
Key terms: judgment, end of the age, weeping and gnashing of teeth, abomination of desolation
Review routing: Human theologian
世界的末了 must be distinguished from the Buddhist kalpa (劫) cycle and from the cyclical dynastic-historiography pattern (治乱循环) already flagged High in the baseline — this is a final, singular consummation. 审判 must be distinguished from impersonal karmic retribution (报应, already High-flagged in the baseline’s ‘sin’ entry); it is a personal, forensic verdict rendered by Christ himself.
The Second Coming of Christ
Mandarin name: 基督的降临
Key terms: coming, parousia, sign of your coming
Review routing: Human theologian
降临 must not be assimilated to the pattern the baseline flags Critical under ‘incarnation’ — a bodhisattva’s or deity’s temporary, repeatable descent to the mortal world (下凡). The parousia is a singular, final, visible, glorious event ending the present age, not one of a recurring series of divine visitations as found in Chinese popular deity-mythology.
Christ’s Ransom and Atoning Death
Mandarin name: 赎价与救赎
Key terms: ransom, forgiveness of sins, blood of the covenant, veil of the temple
Review routing: Human theologian
赎价 collides with the Buddhist folk-merit practice of 放生 (‘releasing life,’ sometimes described as 赎命), a human ritual generating merit for the practitioner. Christ’s ransom is a substitutionary death-price paid once for all, received by faith apart from merit — this distinction must be explicitly and carefully taught, not assumed.
The Resurrection of Christ
Mandarin name: 基督的复活
Key terms: resurrection, raised, risen
Review routing: Human theologian
复活 must never be rendered with 轮回 (reincarnation cycle), 投胎 (rebirth into a new womb), or 还魂 (folk ghost-story reanimation); this is a bodily, historical, once-for-all event, directly contested by the Sadducees within the narrative itself (22:23-33), giving the doctrine built-in apologetic weight in the text.
Believers Called Sons of God
Mandarin name: 信徒得称为神的儿子
Key terms: sons of God, peacemakers, children of God
Review routing: Human theologian
称为神的儿子 must never be confused with the baseline’s Critical term 神的儿子 reserved exclusively for Christ’s unique, eternal Sonship; believers receive an adoptive, plural, derivative sonship through grace, categorically different from and dependent on Christ’s underived deity.
The Great Commission
Mandarin name: 大使命
Key terms: make disciples, all nations, baptizing, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, all authority
Review routing: Human theologian
使…作门徒 carries the same technique-transmission/lineage-school risk (师门) as 门徒 itself. The baptismal formula naming Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together as the object of a single ‘name’ requires an explicit trinitarian clarifying note, reinforcing rather than dividing the doctrine already safeguarded by the baseline’s Critical entries for 神, 耶稣/神的儿子, and 圣灵.
High Risk Doctrines
Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecy
Mandarin name: 旧约预言的应验
Key terms: fulfilled, prophet, prophecy, magi
Review routing: Human theologian
应验 must be taught against the Chinese historiographical intuition of cyclical dynastic rise-and-fall (治乱循环) that shapes how many Chinese readers intuitively read long historical narratives — this is linear, one-time, unrepeatable divine fulfillment, not a recurring cosmic pattern.
The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching
Mandarin name: 耶稣教导的权柄
Key terms: authority, scribes, as one who had authority
Review routing: Human theologian
权柄 must be kept distinct from raw coercive political power (权力) and from the forbidden supernatural-power terms already flagged Critical in the baseline (气, 法力, 神通); Jesus’ authority is an inherent divine right to teach, forgive, heal, and govern, not a delegated political mandate analogous to the Mandate of Heaven.
Fulfillment of the Law and Rejection of Nullifying Tradition
Mandarin name: 律法的成全与人的遗传
Key terms: fulfill the Law, law, tradition of the elders, unclean/defiled
Review routing: Human theologian
成全 (fulfill) must not be conflated with abolishing the Law, which would undercut both the Law’s authority and Jesus’ unique completing authority. Separately, 古人的遗传 requires care given Chinese culture’s strong positive valuation of ancestral tradition and filial deference to elders (孝) — the critique targets specific traditions nullifying God’s word, not reverence for elders as such.
Love and the Great Commandment
Mandarin name: 爱与最大的命令
Key terms: love, love your enemies, love the Lord your God, love your neighbor
Review routing: Human theologian
Ordinary Mandarin 爱 covers an extremely broad range (romantic love, parental affection, generic fondness for objects) with none of ἀγάπη’s specificity as deliberate, self-giving, even enemy-directed commitment; every load-bearing occurrence risks reduction to sentiment or natural affection.
Wealth and the Rival Master Mammon
Mandarin name: 财富与玛门
Key terms: mammon, rich young man, treasures in heaven
Review routing: Human theologian
玛门 confronts a genuine, actively practiced devotional reality: 财神 (the God of Wealth), one of the most widely venerated folk deities in Chinese popular religion, especially at Lunar New Year, with dedicated temples, home altars, and prosperity rituals. Teaching this doctrine is a direct confrontation with a live devotional practice, not an abstract warning against greed.
Repentance
Mandarin name: 悔改
Key terms: repent, repentance, kingdom of heaven is at hand
Review routing: Human theologian
悔改 must be distinguished from the Buddhist ritual-confession practice 忏悔 (chànhuǐ), a formal rite purifying accumulated karma from past wrongdoing; biblical repentance is a relational turning toward the personal God, received through grace, not a karma-reducing ritual technique.
Temptation and Spiritual Conflict
Mandarin name: 试探与属灵争战
Key terms: temptation, devil, Satan, the tempter
Review routing: Human theologian
魔鬼 contains 鬼 (guǐ, ‘ghost’), which in Chinese folk religion denotes wandering, morally ambiguous spirits of the dead, distinct from ancestral spirits or malevolent spirits requiring ritual appeasement. The biblical devil is a specific, personal, already-doomed being in rebellion against God, not one spirit among many in a folk spirit-world; teaching should anchor to 撒但 in weighty contexts.
Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Mandarin name: 作门徒的代价
Key terms: disciples, cross, life/soul, yoke, rest, take up his cross
Review routing: Human theologian
门徒 also names a martial-arts/Daoist master’s lineage disciple (师门), implying technique-transmission and rank-advancement, rather than the relationship of trust, obedience, and identity with Christ that biblical discipleship names. 十字架 must retain its referent of shameful execution and atoning death, not become a generic metaphor for ‘life’s burdens.‘
Election and Calling
Mandarin name: 拣选与呼召
Key terms: called, chosen/elect, many are called but few are chosen
Review routing: Human theologian
蒙拣选的, built on the baseline’s fixed root 拣选, must never be rendered with terms suggesting impersonal fate, luck, or karma-determined outcome (天命, 命运, 缘分); God’s election is personal and gracious, distinguishing a general invitation from an effectual, saving response.
The Universal Scope of the Great Commission
Mandarin name: 向万民宣教
Key terms: all nations, to the ends of the earth, every nation
Review routing: Human theologian
万民 must be kept deliberately distinct from the baseline’s ‘gentiles’ (外邦人), which specifically excludes Israel/Jews; the Great Commission’s scope is comprehensively inclusive of every people without exception, and any rendering suggesting a Gentile-only mission field understates the doctrine. Cultural sensitivity to the historic 洋教 (‘foreign religion’) stigma applies here as in the Romans baseline’s mission doctrine.
The Keys of the Kingdom and Binding/Loosing Authority
Mandarin name: 天国的钥匙与捆绑释放
Key terms: keys of the kingdom, bind and loose
Review routing: Human theologian
This authority must be taught as declarative and derivative — exercised under and by Christ’s own authority (ἐξουσία) — never as independent priestly power analogous to folk-Buddhist underworld gatekeepers or Daoist talismanic binding-ritual practitioners (符咒).
Medium Risk Doctrines
Hypocrisy and True Piety
Mandarin name: 假冒为善与真实的敬虔
Key terms: hypocrite, woe, practiced to be seen by others
Review routing: Native speaker review
假冒为善的人 connects to the live cultural dynamic of 面子 (face/social reputation, already flagged in the baseline under ‘glory’); hypocrisy here is the substitution of face-preservation for genuine devotion to God, worth naming explicitly in teaching.
Baptism
Mandarin name: 洗礼
Key terms: baptize, baptism, baptized
Review routing: Native speaker review
施洗/洗礼/受洗 must be distinguished from ritual purification washing in Daoist/folk practice or Buddhist ritual bathing of Buddha images (浴佛); baptism is a once-for-all sign of repentance and identification with Christ, not a repeatable purification ritual.
Forgiveness Within the Church
Mandarin name: 教会中的饶恕
Key terms: forgive, seventy times seven, unforgiving servant
Review routing: Native speaker review
饶恕/赦免 must be distinguished from a karmic-debt-cancellation intuition (报应/功德) where ‘debt’ language could be absorbed into a merit-ledger framework; biblical forgiveness is relational and grounded in God’s own prior grace.
The Kingdom Parables and Hidden Mysteries
Mandarin name: 天国的比喻与奥秘
Key terms: parable, mystery, ears to hear
Review routing: Native speaker review
比喻 must be distinguished from a generic self-evident fable (寓言); 奥秘 must be distinguished from Daoist inner-alchemy ‘secret knowledge’ (丹道秘诀) gated to advanced initiates — biblical mystery is graciously disclosed by God, not earned through technique-based initiation.
Low Risk Doctrines
Apostleship and Sending
Mandarin name: 使徒的职分与差遣
Key terms: apostle, the twelve, sent out
Review routing: Automated review
使徒 is an established, specific term with low collision risk; minor risk of conflation with a martial-arts/Daoist ‘grandmaster’ lineage figure (宗师) if paraphrased loosely, consistent with the baseline’s apostleship note.
Prophetic Continuity and Persecution
Mandarin name: 先知的传统与逼迫
Key terms: prophets, persecuted, so persecuted the prophets before you
Review routing: Automated review
先知 and 逼迫 are established, low-risk terms; the doctrine places disciples’ suffering in continuity with the OT prophets as a mark of authenticity, not divine disfavor. Minor risk only if 逼迫 is read through a 报应 (misfortune/karma) lens rather than as unjust hostility for righteousness’ sake.
