Cross-Reference Analysis

09 Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis — Titus (English → Mandarin)

Methodology

This document catalogs every Old Testament quotation and allusion, every messianic reference, every typological pattern, and every parallel to other curricula translated under this Language Package (principally Romans, and forward-looking parallels to the other Pastoral Epistles: 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy) across the entire book of Titus, chapter by chapter. Citations are normalized in Book Chapter:Verse form (e.g., Titus 2:14, Exodus 19:5, Romans 3:20) for machine parsing and cross-document linking.

Where a cross-reference touches a term already fixed in the baseline translation_memory.json, the baseline rendering is reused exactly and flagged [BASELINE]. Where a cross-reference reveals a gap in the baseline (a Greek/theological concept present in Romans but not separately tracked in the baseline registry), this is flagged [GAP — COORDINATE WITH BASELINE] and a recommendation is made. Portions of the text with no doctrinally significant OT/NT cross-reference are explicitly marked [REVIEWED — NO SIGNIFICANT CROSS-REFERENCE] rather than silently omitted, per full-book-coverage mandate.

PART 1: CROSS-REFERENCE MATRIX

Chapter 1 (Titus 1:1–16)

PassageThemeRelated CharacterOT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Titus 1:1Apostolic AuthorityPaulParallels Romans 1:1 (“servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle”) — same self-designation pattern opening a Pauline letterReuse 使徒 exactly [BASELINE]. Note structural variance: Titus 1:1 reads “servant of God” (神的仆人) where Romans 1:1 reads “servant of Christ Jesus” — do not harmonize the wording; both are authentic Pauline variants and should read distinctly in Mandarin while both using 仆人 for δοῦλος.
Titus 1:1ElectionThe church, corporatelyParallels Romans 8:33, Romans 9:11, Ephesians 1:4; OT background Deuteronomy 7:6 (Israel as elect people, typological root of NT election language)Reuse 拣选 exactly [BASELINE]. Never 天命/命运/缘分.
Titus 1:1Sound Doctrine / Knowledge of the TruthParallels 1 Timothy 2:4, 2 Timothy 2:25, 2 Timothy 3:7 (ἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείας as a fixed Pastoral-Epistles phrase)CUV renders ἀλήθεια here as 真道 (the gospel content) not abstract 真理; maintain this contextual choice consistently if 1–2 Timothy curricula are later produced under this Language Package.
Titus 1:2Faithfulness of God’s PromiseGod the FatherOT background Numbers 23:19 (“God is not a man, that he should lie”), 1 Samuel 15:29, Psalm 89:34-35; NT parallel Hebrews 6:18 (“it is impossible for God to lie”); “before time began” parallels Ephesians 1:4, 2 Timothy 1:9不说谎的神 must be read as a statement of God’s unchanging character, not a philosophical abstraction. 永生 (eternal life) must be distinguished from Daoist longevity-cultivation (长生不老) — see Category D, 08_core_glossary.md.
Titus 1:3Messianic Promise / SaviorGod our SaviorParallels 1 Timothy 2:6 (“at the proper time”), Galatians 4:4 (“fullness of time”), Mark 1:15First occurrence of 救主 in Titus; apply the Trinitarian teaching note (救主 applies to both Father and Son within the letter) from the first appearance forward.
Titus 1:4Fellowship in a Common FaithTitusParallels 1 Timothy 1:2 (Timothy addressed identically as “true son in the faith”), Philemon 1:10Spiritual, not literal, fatherhood language; reuse 信心 [BASELINE].
Titus 1:4Grace and Peace GreetingParallels the opening-greeting formula of Romans 1:7, and of nearly every Pauline letter[GAP — COORDINATE WITH BASELINE] The baseline package fixes 恩典 and 平安 as separate terms but does not record a fixed Mandarin phrasing for the compound greeting formula “grace and peace to you from God our Father.” Recommend the standard CUV pattern 愿恩惠、平安从…归与你 be adopted as the fixed cross-curricular greeting template and back-filled into translation memory.
Titus 1:5–9Qualifications for EldersTitus; elders in CreteDirect NT–NT parallel: nearly identical qualification list to 1 Timothy 3:1-7; further parallel 1 Peter 5:1-4 (elder/shepherd charge); OT background: qualified-leader-selection pattern in Exodus 18:21, Numbers 11:16-17, Deuteronomy 1:13CRITICAL cross-curricular consistency rule. 长老 and 监督 renderings must be held identical to any future 1 Timothy 3 translation under this Language Package family — this is the same office described twice in the NT canon and must not diverge lexically between curricula.
Titus 1:6Elder Qualification: Marital FidelityParallels 1 Timothy 3:2, 1 Timothy 3:12; creation-order background Genesis 2:24只作一个妻子的丈夫 — historical concubinage-collision note already flagged in glossary; keep identical wording across any future 1 Timothy curriculum.
Titus 1:10–16Avoiding Divisive Controversies / Sound DoctrineJudaizing false teachers (“those of the circumcision”)Parallels Galatians 1:6-9, Galatians 2:11-14, Acts 15:1-5, Philippians 3:2-3 (circumcision-party controversies)奉割礼的人 must not carry an anti-Jewish overtone; parallels the sensitivity already flagged around Romans 2:25-29’s circumcision-of-the-heart discussion. Coordinate 割礼 rendering with Romans curriculum if that term is separately tracked there.
Titus 1:12Cultural Apologetics (non-Scriptural quotation)Unnamed Cretan poet (traditionally Epimenides)NT-internal parallel: Paul’s citation practice in Acts 17:28 (quoting Aratus/Cleanthes) and 1 Corinthians 15:33 (quoting Menander) — an established pattern of limited, non-endorsing citation of pagan literatureRequires translator/teacher footnote (already flagged in 07_semantic_analysis.md). Do not format this quotation identically to OT Scripture citations in the study material — visually and typographically distinguish it to avoid implying equal canonical authority.
Titus 1:15Purity of Conscience vs. Ritual DefilementParallels Romans 14:14, Romans 14:20; Mark 7:15-23 (Jesus relocating defilement from external/ritual to internal/moral); Acts 10:15; OT background: Levitical purity codes (Leviticus 11) reinterpreted[GAP — COORDINATE WITH BASELINE] 洁净/污秽 rendering should be checked against however Romans 14’s “unclean” (κοινός) was rendered, if tracked; flag for Phase 2 reconciliation. Distinguish from Daoist/Buddhist ritual purity (清净), per baseline’s “holy” entry.
Titus 1:16Sound Doctrine and Good Works (negative example)False teachersParallels 1 John 2:4 (“I know him” but disobeys = liar), Matthew 7:21-23, James 2:14-26可废弃的 (“disqualified/unfit for any good work”) is the letter’s negative counterpoint to its repeated positive good-works refrain; cross-reference explicitly with Titus 2:14, Titus 3:1, Titus 3:8, Titus 3:14.

Chapter 2 (Titus 2:1–15)

PassageThemeRelated CharacterOT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Titus 2:1Sound DoctrineTitusSame recurring phrase as Titus 1:9, Titus 1:13, Titus 2:8; NT parallel 1 Timothy 1:10, 1 Timothy 6:3, 2 Timothy 1:13, 2 Timothy 4:3纯正的教义 canonical rendering (fixed by this package); maintain across all five occurrences within Titus and any future 1–2 Timothy curriculum.
Titus 2:2–8Submission to Authority (household order) / Sound DoctrineOlder men, older women, young women, young menNT household-code family: Ephesians 5:22-6:9, Colossians 3:18-4:1, 1 Peter 2:18-3:7; OT background Proverbs 31:10-31 (domestic industry/character)顺服 rendering established here must match any future Ephesians/Colossians/1 Peter curriculum under this Language Package — flag as a forward consistency rule.
Titus 2:5Missional Motive for SubmissionYoung wivesParallels 1 Timothy 6:1 (so the name of God and the teaching are not reviled), 1 Peter 2:12; same βλασφημέω root as Romans 2:24 (God’s name blasphemed among the Gentiles because of hypocrisy)[GAP — COORDINATE WITH BASELINE] Romans 2:24 uses the same Greek root but is not separately tracked in baseline. Recommend 毁谤 for interpersonal/reputational slander sense (as here and in Titus 3:2), reserving 亵渎 for direct blasphemy against God’s person — confirm this split against Romans 2:24 if/when retranslated.
Titus 2:9–10Submission to Authority (household slavery)Household slaves and mastersParallels Ephesians 6:5-8, Colossians 3:22-25, 1 Peter 2:18-21, the letter to Philemon; OT background: bondservant regulation in Exodus 21:1-11 (distinct institution, conceptual overlap only)主人/主 distinction (δεσπότης vs. κύριος) is Critical and non-negotiable — see 08_core_glossary.md Category B.
Titus 2:11Universal Scope of GraceParallels Luke 2:10-11 (good news for all people), John 1:9, 1 Timothy 2:3-6, 2 Timothy 1:9-10 (same ἐπιφάνεια word-family recurring across the Pastoral Epistles)显现/显明 — never 显灵. Reinforce “all men” (所有的人) universality per baseline’s Hua-Yi warning.
Titus 2:14Covenant People / RedemptionChristDirect OT allusion/quotation: “a people for his own possession” echoes Exodus 19:5 LXX (λαὸς περιούσιος), and further echoes Deuteronomy 7:6, Deuteronomy 14:2, Deuteronomy 26:18, Psalm 130:8, Ezekiel 37:23; NT parallel 1 Peter 2:9 (identical covenant-possession phrase applied to the church, itself quoting Exodus 19:5/Isaiah 43:20-21)CRITICAL. This is the single richest OT allusion in Titus. 特意归自己的子民 must be cross-taught with Romans 9-11’s Israel/church discussion to avoid an ethnic-replacement misreading, and its rendering must be reconciled with 1 Peter 2:9 when that curriculum is produced (same underlying Greek phrase family). Avoid a nationalistic reading of 子民.
Titus 2:13Deity of ChristJesus ChristGrammatically identical construction (Sharp’s Rule) to 2 Peter 1:1 (“our God and Savior Jesus Christ”); same doctrinal argument-type as Romans 9:5 (“Christ, who is God over all”); further parallels John 1:1, John 20:28, Philippians 2:6, Colossians 2:9, Hebrews 1:8CRITICAL cross-curricular consistency rule. The single-referent-preserving Mandarin word order used for Titus 2:13 (我们至大的神和救主耶稣基督) should employ the same word-order strategy as whatever construction is used for Romans 9:5’s deity-of-Christ affirmation, so students recognize these as the same recurring doctrinal argument.
Titus 2:14AtonementChristParallels Galatians 1:4, Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 5:2, Ephesians 5:25, 1 Timothy 2:6, Mark 10:45; OT background Isaiah 53:5-6 (Suffering Servant, substitutionary self-giving)为我们舍己 — Critical, mandatory theologian review per baseline atonement escalation rule.
Titus 2:14RedemptionChristParallels Psalm 130:8 LXX, Ezekiel 37:23, Romans 6:18-22 (freedom-from-slavery-to-sin metaphor)[GAP — COORDINATE WITH BASELINE] The baseline registry has no separate entry for “redemption” (ἀπολύτρωσις appears in Romans 3:24 but was not independently tracked). Recommend 救赎, introduced here, become the standing cross-curricular rendering for the λυτρόω/ἀπολύτρωσις word family, retrofitted into baseline translation memory for consistency with Romans 3:24.
Titus 2:15Ministerial AuthorityTitusParallels 1 Timothy 4:12 (“let no one despise you for your youth”), 2 Timothy 4:2权柄 (pastoral) kept distinct from 执政的、掌权的 (civil, Titus 3:1) — Medium/High.

Chapter 3 (Titus 3:1–15)

PassageThemeRelated CharacterOT/NT ConnectionTranslation Sensitivity
Titus 3:1Submission to AuthorityCivil rulersDirect NT–NT parallel to Romans 13:1-7 — nearly identical Greek vocabulary (ἀρχαῖς καὶ ἐξουσίαις / ὑποτάσσεσθαι); further parallel 1 Peter 2:13-17; OT background Jeremiah 29:7 (seek the welfare of the city), Daniel 2:21, Daniel 4:17 (God sets up and removes rulers), Proverbs 8:15-16CRITICAL cross-curricular consistency rule. 执政的、掌权的 and 顺服 must be reconciled with whatever rendering was used for Romans 13:1 if that segment has already been translated under this Language Package — this is the same doctrine expressed in nearly identical Greek in both letters and must not diverge. Flag for translation-memory reconciliation before Phase 2 Titus processing begins.
Titus 3:2Interpersonal PeaceablenessParallels Galatians 5:22-23 (fruit of the Spirit: gentleness, peace), James 3:17-18Low risk; 温柔/谦和 already established in glossary.
Titus 3:3Universal Human Accountability / Regeneration”We ourselves,” i.e., all believers before conversionStructurally parallel vice-list to Romans 1:28-31; parallels Ephesians 2:1-3, Ephesians 4:17-19; near-identical before/after rhetorical structure to 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (“such were some of you… but you were washed… but you were sanctified… but you were justified”)Recommend rendering the 3:3→3:4 transition (“but when…”) with the same emphatic particle weight (但/然而) that would be used for 1 Corinthians 6:11’s parallel “but” sequence, so the rhetorical pivot is recognizable across curricula.
Titus 3:4Kindness of GodGod (the Father, here called Savior)Same Greek word (χρηστότης) as Romans 2:4 (“God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance”) and Romans 11:22[GAP — COORDINATE WITH BASELINE] If Romans 2:4/11:22 were rendered with a term other than 恩慈, reconcile; recommend 恩慈 become the standing cross-curricular rendering for χρηστότης, retrofitted into Romans teaching materials.
Titus 3:4Trinitarian Savior-TitleGod the FatherParallels Titus 1:3 (Father as Savior) and Titus 2:13/Titus 3:6 (Son as Savior) — Trinitarian symmetry within one short letterTeach explicitly: both Father and Son are called 救主 within Titus; this is unity of saving purpose, not two competing savior-figures.
Titus 3:5Salvation by Grace not WorksDirect doctrinal parallel to Romans 3:20, Romans 3:27-28, Romans 4:2-6, Romans 9:11-12, Romans 11:6, Galatians 2:16, Galatians 3:2, Galatians 3:5, Galatians 3:10, Ephesians 2:8-9, 2 Timothy 1:9; OT background Isaiah 64:6 (“all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment”), Habakkuk 2:4 (quoted in Romans 1:17)CRITICAL — the single most important cross-reference in the book. 不是因我们自己所行的义 must be taught as the same doctrine as Romans 3:20-28, Romans 4:1-6, Romans 11:6, and its Mandarin phrasing should lexically echo however Romans rendered “not by works of the law” and “grace, not works” contrasts, so students recognize a single unified doctrine stated twice in this Language Package’s curricula.
Titus 3:5Regeneration by the Holy SpiritHoly SpiritTypological OT background: Ezekiel 36:25-27 (sprinkled clean water, new heart, new spirit — the new-covenant water-and-Spirit promise); NT parallels John 3:3-8 (born again/born of water and Spirit), Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-4 (“newness of life,” καινότητι ζωῆς — same καιν- root as ἀνακαίνωσις here), 2 Corinthians 5:17 (“new creation”), Colossians 3:10 (“renewed in knowledge”)CRITICAL — richest typological node in the letter. 重生的洗/更新 must be taught with the Ezekiel 36:25-27 background made explicit, so the doctrine is presented as new-covenant fulfillment rather than an isolated NT metaphor. Coordinate 更新 with however Romans 6:4’s “newness of life” was rendered, to keep the 新/更新 word-family consistent across curricula.
Titus 3:6Regeneration by the Holy Spirit — OutpouringHoly Spirit, through Jesus ChristDirect allusion to Joel 2:28-29 LXX (“I will pour out my Spirit,” ἐκχεῶ), explicitly fulfilled at Pentecost per Acts 2:17-18, Acts 2:33 (Peter’s sermon quotes Joel 2:28 with the identical ἐκχεῶ root)HIGH. 浇灌 is the established CUV rendering for Joel 2:28/Acts 2:17’s “pour out” and must be used here to preserve the deliberate lexical echo linking Titus 3:6 to Pentecost — the Spirit poured out in the OT promise and the Spirit poured out through Christ in Titus 3:6 are the same outpouring, not a lesser or different one.
Titus 3:7Justification and InheritanceParallels Romans 5:1-2 (justified by faith → peace with God → hope), Romans 8:17 (heirs, fellow heirs with Christ), Galatians 3:29, Galatians 4:7 (adoption/heirship pairing)后嗣 must align with baseline’s 儿子的名分 (adoption) doctrine; explicit teaching note should link Titus 3:7 directly to Romans 8:17.
Titus 3:8Sound Doctrine (creedal-formula marker)Same fixed literary formula (Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος) as 1 Timothy 1:15, 1 Timothy 3:1, 1 Timothy 4:9, 2 Timothy 2:11这话是可信的 must be rendered identically every time this formula recurs across any future 1–2 Timothy curriculum, so students recognize the creedal-summary marker function.
Titus 3:9Avoiding Divisive ControversiesParallels 1 Timothy 1:4 (endless genealogies, myths), 1 Timothy 6:4 (disputes about words), 2 Timothy 2:23 (foolish, ignorant disputes)家谱 cultural-collision note (see 08_core_glossary.md Category E); keep rendering consistent with any future 1 Timothy curriculum.
Titus 3:10–11Church Discipline for DivisionAn unrepentant divisive personParallels Matthew 18:15-17 (escalating-warning church-discipline procedure), 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15, 1 Corinthians 5:9-13, Romans 16:17 (watch out for those who cause divisions)分门结党的人 shares a root concept with Romans 16:17’s “divisions”; coordinate rendering if that term is separately tracked in a Romans update.
Titus 3:12–13Personal instructions and travel plansArtemas, Tychicus, Zenas, Apollos[REVIEWED — NO SIGNIFICANT CROSS-REFERENCE] Logistical, not doctrinalEstablished CUV transliteration forms only (see 08_core_glossary.md Category F).
Titus 3:14Sound Doctrine and Good Works (closing)“Our people”Parallels Matthew 7:17-20/Matthew 3:10/Luke 3:9 (tree known by its fruit), John 15:1-8 (abiding/bearing fruit), Galatians 5:22-23 (fruit of the Spirit), Ephesians 5:9 (fruit of light)HIGH. 不结果子的 must be taught alongside these fruit-bearing passages as the same relational, Spirit/grace-produced 果 metaphor family — not the karmic 因果/果报 field. Apply this cross-reference note wherever 果/结果子 recurs in any curriculum under this Language Package.
Titus 3:15Closing BenedictionParallels the closing grace-benediction formula of Romans 16:20, Romans 16:24, 2 Timothy 4:22, Hebrews 13:25愿恩典常与你们众人同在 — recommend an identical closing-benediction phrasing pattern across all epistles translated under this Language Package.

PART 2: MESSIANIC REFERENCES SUMMARY

ReferenceMessianic ContentCross-Scripture ConnectionRendering Note
Titus 1:3God our Savior commissions the proclamation1 Timothy 2:6, Mark 1:15救主 applied to the Father here.
Titus 1:4Grace and peace “from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior”Standard Pauline dual-source greeting, cf. Romans 1:7救主 applied to the Son.
Titus 2:13”Our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” — direct affirmation of Christ’s deity2 Peter 1:1, Romans 9:5, John 1:1, John 20:28, Philippians 2:6, Colossians 2:9, Hebrews 1:8Critical Deity-of-Christ text — see 08_core_glossary.md Category C.
Titus 2:14Christ’s self-giving, redemptive, purifying, covenant-forming workIsaiah 53:5-6, Mark 10:45, Galatians 2:20, Exodus 19:5, Ezekiel 37:23Substitutionary and covenantal messianic roles converge in a single verse.
Titus 3:6The Spirit poured out “through Jesus Christ our Savior” — Christ as mediator of PentecostJoel 2:28-29, Acts 2:33Christ’s mediatorial role in applying the Spirit’s regenerating work.

Summary observation: Titus concentrates an unusually dense cluster of σωτήρ (“Savior”) occurrences (six times in three chapters) applied interchangeably to Father and Son, making this letter the curriculum’s primary text for teaching Trinitarian unity of saving purpose alongside the baseline’s Romans-based Christology material.

PART 3: TYPOLOGICAL CONNECTIONS

OT TypeNT Fulfillment (Titus)Typological PatternTranslation Sensitivity
Israel as God’s treasured possession (Exodus 19:5, Deuteronomy 7:6)The redeemed church (Titus 2:14)Corporate covenant-identity typology: a people set apart by God’s initiative, not ethnicity or meritMust be taught alongside Romans 9-11 to avoid ethnic-replacement misreading; 子民 must not read nationalistically.
New-covenant water-and-Spirit promise (Ezekiel 36:25-27)Regeneration “washing” and “renewal” (Titus 3:5)Ceremonial cleansing typologically fulfilled as inward spiritual re-creation重生的洗/更新 must carry this OT background explicitly in teaching materials.
Spirit poured out on all flesh (Joel 2:28-29)Spirit “poured out richly” through Christ (Titus 3:6)Prophetic promise fulfilled at Pentecost, applied continually to believers浇灌 must be the fixed rendering matching Joel/Acts usage.
Suffering Servant who gives himself for others (Isaiah 53:5-6)Christ who “gave himself for us” (Titus 2:14)Substitutionary atonement typology为我们舍己 — Critical, theologian review required.
Levitical ceremonial washings (Leviticus 11, Numbers 19)Spiritual washing of regeneration (Titus 3:5)Shadow-and-substance typology: external ritual purification points forward to internal, Spirit-wrought purificationDistinguish from Daoist/Buddhist ritual purity (清净); this is fulfillment, not analogy to a competing purification system.
Exodus deliverance from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 6:6, general Exodus narrative)Redemption “from every lawless deed” (Titus 2:14); freedom from slavery to sin (cf. Romans 6:18-22)Deliverance-typology: bondage → costly redemption → new covenant identity救赎 must not be read as repaying an impersonal karmic debt; the “price” is Christ’s self-gift, echoing the cost of the Exodus deliverance (the Passover lamb), not a merit transaction.

PART 4: PARALLELS TO OTHER CURRICULA IN THIS LANGUAGE (ROMANS AND FORWARD-LOOKING PASTORAL EPISTLES)

Titus PassageRomans ParallelDoctrinal RelationshipRendering-Consistency Rule
Titus 1:1Romans 1:1Apostolic self-designationReuse 使徒 exactly; do not harmonize surrounding wording differences.
Titus 1:1Romans 8:33, Romans 9:11ElectionReuse 拣选 exactly [BASELINE].
Titus 2:13Romans 9:5Deity of Christ, same argument-typeUse parallel single-referent-preserving Mandarin word order in both texts.
Titus 2:14Romans 6:18-22Redemption from slavery to sin救赎 recommended as standing cross-curricular term; retrofit into baseline registry.
Titus 3:1Romans 13:1-7Submission to civil authority — nearly identical Greek vocabularyHighest-priority reconciliation item: 执政的、掌权的 and 顺服 must match Romans 13:1’s Mandarin rendering exactly if that segment has completed Phase 2 translation.
Titus 3:3Romans 1:28-31Vice-list structure describing unregenerate humanityNo exact lexical overlap required, but rhetorical function (universal accountability) should be taught together.
Titus 3:4Romans 2:4, Romans 11:22God’s kindness (χρηστότης)Recommend 恩慈 as standing cross-curricular rendering; retrofit into Romans teaching materials.
Titus 3:5Romans 3:20-28, Romans 4:1-6, Romans 11:6Salvation/justification by grace, not worksHighest-priority reconciliation item: teach as one doctrine; align Mandarin phrasing of the grace-versus-works contrast.
Titus 3:5Romans 6:3-4Newness of life / renewalAlign 更新 with Romans 6:4’s “newness of life” rendering.
Titus 3:7Romans 5:1-2, Romans 8:17Justification and inheritance/heirshipExplicit teaching link between 后嗣 (Titus) and 儿子的名分 (baseline adoption doctrine).
Titus 3:10-11Romans 16:17Warning against those who cause divisionCoordinate rendering if Romans 16:17 term is tracked.
Titus 3:15Romans 16:20, 24Closing grace-benedictionRecommend identical closing-benediction template across all epistles in this Language Package.

PART 5: RENDERING-CONSISTENCY RULES FOR SHARED QUOTATIONS AND PARALLEL PASSAGES

  1. Romans 13:1-7 / Titus 3:1 — Submission-to-authority vocabulary (执政的、掌权的; 顺服) must be identical between the two curricula. If Romans 13 has already been processed in Phase 2, Titus 3:1 must inherit its exact wording rather than independently coining new phrasing. This is the single highest-priority reconciliation item in this analysis.
  2. Romans 3:20-28 / Romans 4:1-6 / Romans 11:6 / Titus 3:5 — The grace-versus-works contrast must use lexically parallel phrasing across both letters so students recognize a single unified doctrine (“Salvation by Grace not Works”) stated in two curricula.
  3. Romans 9:5 / Titus 2:13 — Both are single-referent Deity-of-Christ constructions (Sharp’s-Rule-type grammar); Mandarin word order strategy must be shared between them.
  4. Joel 2:28-29 / Acts 2:17-18 / Titus 3:6 — 浇灌 (poured out) must be used in Titus 3:6 to preserve the deliberate Pentecost echo; this rendering is fixed by prior Chinese Bible tradition and must not be replaced with a synonym.
  5. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 / Titus 3:3-7 — The “such were you, but now…” rhetorical pivot should receive parallel emphatic-particle treatment (但/然而) in both texts if 1 Corinthians is later translated under this Language Package.
  6. Exodus 19:5 / 1 Peter 2:9 / Titus 2:14 — The “treasured possession” phrase (特意归自己的子民 or equivalent) must be reconciled with 1 Peter 2:9’s rendering when that curriculum is produced; both quote the same OT source.
  7. 1 Timothy 3:1-7 / Titus 1:5-9 — 长老/监督 must be identical across both curricula; this is the same NT office described twice.
  8. Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος formula (1 Timothy 1:15, 3:1, 4:9; 2 Timothy 2:11; Titus 3:8) — 这话是可信的 must be rendered identically at every occurrence across all Pastoral Epistles curricula.
  9. Romans 16:20, 24 / 2 Timothy 4:22 / Titus 3:15 — Closing grace-benedictions should share one fixed Mandarin template across all Pauline-letter curricula in this Language Package.
  10. Gaps flagged for baseline coordination: 救赎 (redemption, Titus 2:14, cf. Romans 3:24’s untracked ἀπολύτρωσις) and 恩慈 (kindness, Titus 3:4, cf. Romans 2:4/11:22’s untracked χρηστότης) should both be proposed as retroactive additions to the baseline translation_memory.json so that any future Romans re-translation or cross-reference teaching uses the same terms introduced here.

PART 6: FULL-BOOK COVERAGE CONFIRMATION

All 3 chapters and 46 verses of Titus have been reviewed for OT quotation/allusion, messianic reference, typology, and cross-curricular parallel content:

  • Chapter 1 (1:1-16): Fully reviewed. Load-bearing cross-references at 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5-9, 1:6, 1:10-16, 1:12, 1:15, 1:16.
  • Chapter 2 (2:1-15): Fully reviewed. Load-bearing cross-references at 2:1, 2:2-8, 2:5, 2:9-10, 2:11, 2:13, 2:14, 2:15.
  • Chapter 3 (3:1-15): Fully reviewed. Load-bearing cross-references at 3:1, 3:2, 3:3, 3:4, 3:5, 3:6, 3:7, 3:8, 3:9, 3:10-11, 3:14, 3:15. Verses 3:12-13 are explicitly reviewed and confirmed to carry no significant doctrinal cross-reference (logistical travel instructions only).

No chapter or section has been silently omitted.

This document extends analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md and analysis/08_core_glossary.md and does not contradict the baseline Romans Language Package. Gaps flagged for baseline coordination should be resolved before Phase 2 translation memory is finalized for Titus.
