Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — Hebrews (English → Mandarin)
Purpose and Scope
This document is the full doctrine matrix for Hebrews 1–13, produced under the PRD Phase 1 full-book-coverage mandate. Every chapter of Hebrews is represented below, either through the doctrines it introduces/develops or through an explicit “reviewed, no new doctrinal risk” note. The core passage, Hebrews 9:11–28, functions as the theological anchor of the curriculum (the fullest concentration of Critical-tier doctrine in the book) but is never treated as the boundary of analysis.
This matrix is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: the same 24 doctrines, the same risk tiers, and the same review routing are used throughout. No new doctrine or tier is introduced here; this document instead maps that registry onto the book’s chapter structure and supplies the “supporting passages from this book” and “translation risk” detail requested for Phase 1 Step 4/5 deliverables.
Part 1: Full Doctrine Matrix
| # | Doctrine | Mandarin Doctrine Name | Primary Supporting Passages (Hebrews) | Risk | Translation Risk Summary | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Superiority of Christ over Angels | 基督超越天使 | 1:4-14; 2:5-9; 13:2 | Critical | 天使 sits inside a populated Chinese folk cosmology of graded spirit-beings (神仙, celestial generals, ancestor spirits) that some worshipers venerate/petition. Angels must read as created, worshiping servants of the Son — never a parallel category of spirit one might also honor. | Human theologian |
| 2 | Deity of Christ | 基督的神性 | 1:3; 1:8-10; 13:8 | Critical | 神本体的真像 and 荣耀的光辉 must not soften into “an especially exalted representative of God” (the Mandate-of-Heaven collision already Critical for son_of_god in the Romans baseline). Heb. 1:8’s direct address of the Son as 神 must be preserved as vocative address to the Son as God. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Humanity of Christ | 基督的人性 | 2:14-18; 4:15; 5:7-9 | High | Christ’s real, physical human nature and full experience of suffering/temptation must not read as a temporary, shed-able manifestation-body (化身) — same collision as “incarnation” in the Romans baseline. Permanent, not episodic. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Sonship of Christ | 基督的儿子名分 | 1:2; 1:5; 5:5 | Critical | NEVER equate with 天子 (“Son of Heaven,” the historic imperial title). 长子 (“firstborn,” 1:6; 12:23) must convey supreme rank/heirship, not the clan tradition’s literal eldest-son ancestor-rite leadership duty. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Christ as the Great High Priest | 基督作大祭司 | 2:17; 4:14-16; 5:1-10; 7:23-28; 8:1-2; 9:11-12 | Critical | 大祭司 collides with Buddhist monks (僧/和尚) and Daoist ritual specialists (道士/法师) performing repeatable, fee-based rites, and with hireable temple functionaries. Christ’s priesthood is unique, unrepeatable, permanently effective, and self-offered. | Human theologian |
| 6 | Superiority of Christ over Moses | 基督超越摩西 | 3:1-6 | High | Must avoid reduction to a seniority ranking among revered teachers (as in veneration of past sages); the contrast is categorical (servant vs. Son), not a matter of degree. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Superiority of Christ over the Levitical Priesthood | 基督超越利未人的祭司职任 | 7:11-19; 8:6-7; 10:1-4 | High | The hereditary, mortal, repeatedly-officiated Levitical system made “nothing perfect” (完全); must not be taught as merely an inferior technique needing improvement but as a provisional system built to be superseded. | Human theologian |
| 8 | The Melchizedekian Priesthood of Christ | 麦基洗德等次的祭司职任 | 5:6-10; 6:20; 7:1-22 | High | 麦基洗德 has no comparable figure in Chinese religious/dynastic history; requires OT background (Gen. 14, Ps. 110) at every occurrence. Risk is primarily comprehension: a non-hereditary, permanent, kingly priesthood must not flatten into “an ancient king.” | Human theologian |
| 9 | Christ as Mediator of the New Covenant | 新约的中保 | 8:6; 9:15; 12:24 | Critical | 中保 collides with folk-religious intermediaries (spirit mediums 乩童, Daoist priests interceding with spirits, ancestor tablets, bodhisattva-intercessors) — all repeatable, contractible go-betweens. Christ is sole, sufficient, once-for-all Mediator by his own blood. | Human theologian |
| 10 | The New Covenant versus the Old | 新约与旧约(前约)的比较 | 7:22; 8:6-13; 9:15-18; 10:9; 12:24 | Critical | 新约 is homonymous with 新约圣经 (“New Testament,” the book collection) — an acute internal-Chinese ambiguity. This package adopts CUV’s own 前约 for “the first/former covenant” to reserve 旧约 for the scriptural canon. Every occurrence requires a disambiguating note. | Human theologian |
| 11 | The Once-for-All Atoning Sacrifice | 一次永远献上的赎罪祭 | 7:27; 9:12; 9:25-28; 10:10-14 | Critical | Highest-density collision cluster in the book: 祭物, 献上, 一次/只一次 all run through vocabulary shared with repeatable Chinese ritual-mediation systems (incense, ancestor rites, temple offerings, 放生, 忏悔). Every ἅπαξ occurrence must pair with explicit finality language (不再重复). | Human theologian |
| 12 | Propitiation and Substitutionary Atonement | 挽回神怒气的代赎 | 2:17; 9:5; 9:28 | Critical | Must be sharply distinguished from folk-religious appeasement of wrathful/hungry spirits (饿鬼 rites, 中元节, placating a displeased ancestor or local deity). 施恩座 shares its Greek word with Romans 3:25’s “propitiation”; the dual referent must be taught as one connected typology. | Human theologian |
| 13 | Access to God through Christ’s Blood | 借基督的血得以亲近神 | 4:16; 9:7-8; 10:19-22; 12:22-24 | Critical | 来到…面前/亲近(神) must be distinguished from the folk-religious pattern of approaching a deity/ancestor only through ritual self-preparation or a mediating specialist acting on the worshiper’s behalf. Access here is secured entirely by Christ’s already-shed blood; the worshiper receives rather than earns entry. | Human theologian |
| 14 | Conscience and Inner Cleansing | 良心的洁净 | 9:9; 9:14; 10:22; 13:18 | High | 良心 is a live Confucian ethical term for the innate moral heart, cultivated through self-reflection (cf. Mencius). Hebrews teaches the conscience is cleansed by an external, once-for-all divine act applied to a person, not perfected through internal self-cultivation. Standardized on 良心 throughout (CUV itself varies 心/良心). | Human theologian |
| 15 | The Danger of Apostasy and Warning Passages | 背道的危险与警戒的话 | 2:1-3; 3:12-19; 6:4-8; 10:26-31; 12:25 | Critical | 背道/离弃(信仰) must carry full seriousness without collapsing into the Buddhist merit-ledger worldview (功德, already Critical in the Romans baseline) where grace is a finite resource depleted by insufficient effort. Tension between warning and assurance (chs. 8–10) must be preserved, not resolved by softening either side. | Human theologian |
| 16 | Faith of the Old Testament Saints | 旧约圣徒的信心 | 11:1-40 | High | 实底 and 确据 (Hebrews’ compact definition of faith) are classical-flavored compounds not in everyday speech; must be taught explicitly, kept distinct from vague, wishful, fortune-seeking “hope.” 客旅 must read as forward-looking hope for a promised homeland, not Buddhist-style renunciation (出家) as a technique in itself. | Human theologian |
| 17 | Perseverance and Assurance | 坚忍到底与得救的确据 | 3:14; 6:11-20; 10:23; 10:35-39; 12:1-3 | High | Assurance rests on God’s unchangeable oath and Christ’s finished, once-for-all priestly work (完全/成全), not an ongoing, uncertain merit-ledger (功德). Intensified here by Hebrews’ repeated 完全/成全 vocabulary, which directly borrows the Neo-Confucian self-cultivation-into-sagehood register. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Divine Discipline | 神的管教 | 12:5-11 | Medium | 管教 is positively resonant with the Confucian family-formation ideal (家教) — a genuine bridge — but must be clarified as loving, holiness-oriented fatherly discipline (linked to established 父), not honor/shame-driven punitive correction tied to “face” (面子). | Native speaker review |
| 19 | Sanctification and Being Made Perfect | 成圣与得以完全 | 2:11; 7:19; 9:9; 10:1; 10:14; 12:14; 12:23; 13:12 | Critical | 完全/成全 directly collides with the Neo-Confucian technical concept of moral self-perfection through cultivation into sagehood — the same risk family as 成圣 in the Romans baseline, but recurring far more frequently (at least 7 distinct occurrences) since “perfecting” is a controlling verb of the letter. Every occurrence needs the clarifying grace-not-effort note. | Human theologian |
| 20 | Inspiration and Authority of Scripture | 圣经的默示与权威 | 1:1-2; 3:7; 4:12-13 | High | God’s direct, personal speech through Scripture must be distinguished from the Chinese classical canon (经, e.g. the Confucian Five Classics or Daoist Daodejing), authoritative as accumulated sage-wisdom rather than a personal God’s verbal communication. 神的道 (4:12) must stay visually/conceptually distinct from the incarnation compound 道成肉身. | Human theologian |
| 21 | Judgment and Eschatology | 审判与末后的事 | 9:27-28; 10:27; 12:23; 12:29 | Critical | 末世 risks association with fringe apocalyptic new religious movements (末日邪教); must be settled, inaugurated eschatology, not sensationalist doomsday prediction. 定命 risks impersonal fatalism (命运/天命); 审判 risks collision with impersonal karmic retribution (报应, rejected in the Romans baseline). Both require a personal God’s specific, forensic verdict. | Human theologian |
| 22 | The Rest of God | 神的安息 | 3:11; 3:18-19; 4:1-11 | Medium | 安息 must be distinguished from Daoist effortless non-striving (无为) or mere physical repose; this is covenantal, eschatological rest entered through faith, which the wilderness generation forfeited through unbelief. | Native speaker review |
| 23 | The Unshakeable Kingdom and Final Glory | 不能震动的国与末后的荣耀 | 12:22-28; 13:14 | Medium | 不能震动的国 reuses 神的国 with a modifier; must avoid framing as a merely stable this-worldly political dynasty (the 天下 collision flagged in the Romans baseline) rather than God’s cosmically permanent, eschatological reign. | Native speaker review |
| 24 | Christian Ethical Living | 基督徒的生活伦理 | 13:1-17 | Low | Standard vocabulary, minor collision risk. 称谢的祭 (sacrifice of praise) must read as a deliberate metaphorical transformation of now-completed sacrificial vocabulary into worship/good works, not a reintroduction of ongoing propitiatory offerings. | Automated review |
Tier totals (must match doctrine_risk_registry.json): Critical = 12, High = 8, Medium = 3, Low = 1. Total = 24. Human theologian review required for 20 doctrines; native speaker review for 3; automated review for 1.
Part 2: Chapter-by-Chapter Coverage (Full-Book Mandate)
Every chapter of Hebrews is represented below. Chapters are cross-referenced to the doctrine numbers in Part 1. Where a chapter contains material with no distinct doctrinal-risk profile beyond what is already captured, this is stated explicitly rather than omitted.
| Ch. | Section / Theme | Doctrines Present (# from Part 1) | Key Terms (see 08_core_glossary.md) | Coverage Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Son superior to prophets and angels; deity and sonship of Christ | 1, 2, 4, 20 | 神的儿子, 荣耀的光辉, 神本体的真像, 天使, 宝座, 长子, 神的道 | Densest concentration of Critical Christology in the book; establishes the argument the rest of Hebrews builds on. |
| 2 | Warning against neglect; Christ’s humanity and solidarity with humanity; propitiation introduced | 1, 3, 12, 15, 19 | 天使, 体谅 (root), 挽回祭, 背道, 成圣 (2:11) | First warning passage; introduces the humanity-of-Christ and propitiation themes that chs. 9–10 will develop fully. |
| 3 | Christ superior to Moses; first extended warning (wilderness generation); rest introduced | 6, 15, 20, 22, 17 | 摩西, 背道, 安息, 神的道 (3:7 quotation), 坚忍 (3:14) | Pivots the argument from angels to Moses; introduces “today, if you hear his voice” warning pattern reused in ch. 4. |
| 4 | God’s rest; the living word of God; Christ the sympathetic high priest; first “draw near” exhortation | 5, 20, 22, 13 | 安息, 神的道, 大祭司, 体谅, 坦然无惧, 来到…面前 | Bridges rest theology into priesthood theology; “throne of grace” (4:16) anticipates ch. 9–10’s access-to-God cluster. |
| 5 | Qualifications of a high priest; Christ’s suffering obedience; Melchizedek introduced; rebuke for spiritual immaturity | 5, 3, 8 | 大祭司, 麦基洗德, 体谅 | 5:11-14 (milk vs. solid food) is a maturity rebuke without an independent registry doctrine; reviewed — supports doctrine #19 (perfection) pedagogically but introduces no new Critical/High term. |
| 6 | Warning against falling away; the anchor of hope; God’s unchangeable oath; Melchizedek resumed | 15, 17, 8 | 背道, 死行, 锚, 誓言, 麦基洗德 | Hebrews’ most severe warning (6:4-8) sits directly beside its strongest assurance language (6:11-20); both must be preserved without resolving the tension. |
| 7 | Melchizedek’s superiority to Levi; Christ’s permanent, non-hereditary priesthood; the law’s imperfection; new covenant guarantor | 7, 8, 9, 10, 19 | 麦基洗德, 利未, 祭司职任, 长久不变的, 保证人, 完全 (7:19) | Central OT-typology chapter; requires the most background-explanation load in the whole book (no Chinese cultural analogy for Melchizedek). |
| 8 | The new covenant announced (Jeremiah 31 quoted); heavenly sanctuary vs. earthly copy | 9, 10, 19 (implicit via 完全) | 新约, 前约, 帐幕, 中保, 样式, 影儿 | Sets up the copy/shadow vs. heavenly-reality typology essential to reading ch. 9 correctly. |
| 9 | CORE PASSAGE (9:11-28): Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice through the greater, more perfect tabernacle; his blood cleanses the conscience; he is mediator of the new covenant; appointed judgment; Christ will appear a second time | 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 19, 21 | 大祭司, 帐幕, 圣所, 至圣所, 幔子, 血, 祭物, 献上, 一次/只一次, 赎罪, 挽回祭, 施恩座, 立约的血, 中保, 良心, 死行, 定命, 显现 | Theological anchor of the entire curriculum; every Critical-tier priesthood/sacrifice/covenant term converges here. Highest translation-risk density in the book. |
| 10 | The law’s sacrifices insufficient; Christ’s single sacrifice perfects for all time; exhortation to draw near, hold fast, and warn against willful apostasy | 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21 | 一次, 献上, 完全, 来到…面前, 坦然无惧, 良心, 故意犯罪, 施行公义的审判, 坚忍 | Directly continues and applies the core passage’s doctrine to exhortation; contains the book’s most severe apostasy warning (10:26-31). |
| 11 | The great roll call of OT faith | 16 | 实底, 确据, 客旅, 应许 | Entire chapter devoted to a single doctrine (#16); no new Critical/High terms beyond faith-definition vocabulary already catalogued. |
| 12 | Discipline as a father’s love; the unshakeable kingdom; Esau’s example; Mount Zion vs. Sinai | 15, 17, 18, 19, 23, 4, 9 | 管教, 长子, 完全, 不能震动的国, 中保, 背道 (12:25) | Combines warning (Esau), assurance (12:1-3), discipline theology, and the mediator/access cluster (heavenly Jerusalem, 12:22-24) in one chapter. |
| 13 | Practical Christian ethics; sacrifice of praise; outside-the-camp typology; benediction | 24, 19, 23 | 称谢的祭, 营外, 接待客旅, 完全 (13:21 implicit), 不能震动的国 (13:14 implicit “city to come”) | Closing ethical chapter; transforms sacrificial vocabulary metaphorically now that the literal atonement is finished (13:12, echoing doctrine #11’s finality). Reviewed in full; Low risk except for the metaphor-transformation caution already noted under doctrine #24. |
Full-book coverage confirmation: All 13 chapters of Hebrews have been reviewed. Chapters 1, 9, and 10 carry the highest concentration of Critical-tier doctrine; chapters 5, 11, and 13 are explicitly noted above where a section (5:11-14; ch. 11 in full; ch. 13 in full) contributes primarily pedagogical or ethical content rather than introducing additional registry-level risk.

Critical Risk Doctrines
Superiority of Christ over Angels
Mandarin name: 基督超越天使
Key terms: angel, son_of_god, radiance_of_glory, exact_imprint, throne
Review routing: Human theologian
天使 (angels) sit within a populated Chinese folk-cosmology of spirit-beings (immortals 神仙, celestial generals, ancestor spirits, city gods) that some worshipers venerate or petition directly. Hebrews 1:6’s command that ‘all God’s angels worship him’ must be rendered so that angels are unmistakably created, worshiping servants of the Son — never a parallel category of spirit one might also honor. Collapsing this distinction would fatally undercut the book’s opening argument.
Deity of Christ
Mandarin name: 基督的神性
Key terms: radiance_of_glory, exact_imprint, throne, son_of_god, god
Review routing: Human theologian
神本体的真像 and 荣耀的光辉 must not be softened into ‘an especially exalted representative of God’ — the Mandate-of-Heaven framework already flagged Critical for son_of_god in the Romans baseline. Hebrews 1:8’s direct address of the Son as Θεός/神 (‘Your throne, O God, is forever’) is among Scripture’s clearest ascriptions of full deity to Christ and must be preserved as a vocative address to the Son as God, not softened into royal metaphor.
Sonship of Christ
Mandarin name: 基督的儿子名分
Key terms: son_of_god, firstborn, throne
Review routing: Human theologian
Reuses the Romans baseline’s Critical caution: NEVER equate with 天子 (‘Son of Heaven’), the historic imperial title. In Hebrews, 长子 (firstborn) at 1:6 and 12:23 must convey supreme rank/heirship, not the Chinese clan tradition’s literal eldest-son ancestor-rite leadership duty.
Christ as the Great High Priest
Mandarin name: 基督作大祭司
Key terms: high_priest, priesthood, melchizedek, mediator, to_perfect
Review routing: Human theologian
大祭司 collides with Buddhist monks (僧/和尚) and Daoist ritual specialists (道士/法师) who perform repeatable, fee-based rites, and with folk temple functionaries available for hire. Christ’s high priesthood must be taught throughout as unique, unrepeatable, permanently effective, and personally undertaken (he offers himself), not one ritual specialist among many.
Christ as Mediator of the New Covenant
Mandarin name: 新约的中保
Key terms: mediator, new_covenant, guarantor, blood_of_the_covenant
Review routing: Human theologian
中保 collides with the structural role of folk-religious intermediaries: spirit mediums (乩童), Daoist priests interceding with spirits, ancestor tablets as access channels, or bodhisattvas as intercessors — all repeatable, contractible go-betweens. Christ is the sole, sufficient, once-for-all Mediator who personally ratifies the covenant by his own blood, not a ritual service rendered on request.
The New Covenant versus the Old
Mandarin name: 新约与旧约(前约)的比较
Key terms: new_covenant, first_covenant, covenant, promise, copy_pattern, shadow
Review routing: Human theologian
新约 is homonymous in everyday Mandarin with 新约圣经 (‘New Testament,’ the book collection) — an acute internal-Chinese ambiguity absent from the Romans baseline. Every covenant-relationship occurrence requires a disambiguating note; this Language Package adopts CUV’s own precedent of 前约 for ‘the first/former covenant’ to reserve 旧约 for the scriptural canon. Failure to disambiguate risks readers hearing a claim about which books belong in the Bible rather than a claim about covenant relationship.
The Once-for-All Atoning Sacrifice
Mandarin name: 一次永远献上的赎罪祭
Key terms: once_for_all, sacrifice, to_offer, blood, redemption
Review routing: Human theologian
This is the highest-density collision cluster in the whole book: 祭物, 献上, and 一次/只一次 all run directly through the vocabulary Chinese folk religion, Buddhism, and Daoism use for their own repeatable ritual-mediation systems (incense-burning, ancestor rites, temple offerings, 放生, 忏悔). Every occurrence of ἅπαξ must be paired with explicit finality language (不再重复) precisely because repeated seasonal ritual observance is a deeply familiar cultural default that could otherwise blunt or reverse the passage’s central contrast.
Propitiation and Substitutionary Atonement
Mandarin name: 挽回神怒气的代赎
Key terms: propitiation, mercy_seat, to_bear_sins, forgiveness
Review routing: Human theologian
挽回祭/献祭赎罪 must be sharply distinguished from Chinese folk-religious appeasement of potentially wrathful or hungry spirits (饿鬼 rites during 中元节, placating a displeased ancestor or local deity through offerings). Biblical propitiation satisfies a holy God’s just wrath through one specific, sufficient, substitutionary sacrifice — not arbitrary or capricious spirit-placation requiring ongoing ritual management. 施恩座 (mercy seat) shares its Greek word with Romans 3:25’s ‘propitiation’; this dual referent (furniture-object vs. atoning act) must be taught as one connected typology, not unrelated vocabulary.
Access to God through Christ’s Blood
Mandarin name: 借基督的血得以亲近神
Key terms: blood, draw_near, boldness, veil, holy_place, most_holy_place
Review routing: Human theologian
来到…面前/亲近(神) must be distinguished from the folk-religious pattern of approaching a deity or ancestor only through ritual preparation, incense, or a mediating specialist performed BY the worshiper to earn access. Biblical access is secured entirely and finally by Christ’s already-shed blood, requiring only faith — the direction of effort is inverted from the ritual-mediation default (worshiper acts to gain access) to a completed divine act the worshiper simply receives.
The Danger of Apostasy and Warning Passages
Mandarin name: 背道的危险与警戒的话
Key terms: to_fall_away, willful_sin, vengeance, judgment
Review routing: Human theologian
背道/离弃(信仰) must convey the full, genuine seriousness of Hebrews’ warnings without collapsing into the Buddhist merit-ledger worldview (功德, already Critical in the Romans baseline) in which grace is treated as a finite resource depleted by insufficient effort. The tension between the warnings’ reality and the assurance taught in chs. 8-10 must be actively preserved in translation and teaching notes, not resolved by softening either side.
Sanctification and Being Made Perfect
Mandarin name: 成圣与得以完全
Key terms: sanctification, to_perfect, holy
Review routing: Human theologian
完全/成全 directly collides with the Neo-Confucian technical concept of moral self-perfection through cultivation into sagehood — the same family of risk already Critical for 成圣 in the Romans baseline, but recurring far more frequently in Hebrews (at least 7 distinct occurrences) since ‘perfecting’ is one of the letter’s controlling verbs. Every occurrence requires the clarifying note that Christ’s finished priestly work perfects believers by grace, applied once for all, not a gradual, self-effort-driven moral cultivation process (修身/修炼).
Judgment and Eschatology
Mandarin name: 审判与末后的事
Key terms: judgment, it_is_appointed, foundation_of_world_end_of_ages
Review routing: Human theologian
末世 risks association in the contemporary Mandarin context with fringe apocalyptic new religious movements (末日邪教, widely publicized and distrusted ‘doomsday cults’); must be taught as settled, inaugurated eschatology already decisively underway in Christ’s finished work, not sensationalist doomsday prediction. 定命 (it is appointed) risks impersonal fatalism, echoing 命运/天命 already flagged Critical/High in the Romans baseline; 审判 risks collision with impersonal karmic retribution (报应, rejected in the Romans baseline’s ‘sin’ note). Both must be taught as a personal God’s specific, forensic appointment and verdict, not blind cosmic determinism or karma working itself out across a lineage or rebirths.
High Risk Doctrines
Humanity of Christ
Mandarin name: 基督的人性
Key terms: to_bear_sins, sympathize, propitiation
Review routing: Human theologian
Christ’s real, physical human nature and full experience of temptation/suffering must not be read through the lens of a temporary manifestation-body (化身) that a deity could shed or exchange for another form — the same collision already flagged for ‘incarnation’ in the Romans baseline. His humanity is permanent and essential to his priestly sympathy (体谅), not episodic.
Superiority of Christ over Moses
Mandarin name: 基督超越摩西
Key terms: moses, faith
Review routing: Human theologian
Moses (摩西) is honored as ‘faithful in all God’s house’ as a servant, while Christ is builder and Son over the house. Must avoid any framing that reduces this to a mere seniority ranking among revered teachers (as in the veneration of past sages in Chinese tradition); the contrast is categorical (servant vs. Son), not a matter of degree.
Superiority of Christ over the Levitical Priesthood
Mandarin name: 基督超越利未人的祭司职任
Key terms: levi, priesthood, priest, law
Review routing: Human theologian
The hereditary, mortal, repeatedly-officiated Levitical priesthood (利未人的祭司职任) is explicitly said to have made ‘nothing perfect’ (完全). Must not be taught merely as an inferior technique needing improvement, but as a system built to be provisional and superseded by a categorically different, eternal priesthood.
The Melchizedekian Priesthood of Christ
Mandarin name: 麦基洗德等次的祭司职任
Key terms: melchizedek, priesthood, permanent_priesthood, guarantor
Review routing: Human theologian
麦基洗德 has no comparable figure in Chinese religious or dynastic history; requires explicit OT background (Gen. 14, Ps. 110) at every occurrence. Risk is primarily comprehension, not collision, but the doctrinal point — a non-hereditary, permanent, kingly priesthood — must not be flattened into a generic ‘ancient king’ reference.
Conscience and Inner Cleansing
Mandarin name: 良心的洁净
Key terms: conscience, dead_works, sanctification
Review routing: Human theologian
良心 is a live Confucian ethical term for the innate moral heart, cultivated and perfected through self-reflection and virtuous practice (cf. Mencius). Hebrews teaches that the conscience is cleansed by an external, once-for-all divine act (Christ’s blood) applied to a person, not perfected through internal self-cultivation. CUV itself is inconsistent (心 at 9:14, 良心 at 10:22); this Language Package standardizes on 良心 throughout for cross-lesson consistency, with the clarifying note attached every time.
Faith of the Old Testament Saints
Mandarin name: 旧约圣徒的信心
Key terms: faith, substance_assurance, conviction_evidence, strangers_and_sojourners, promise
Review routing: Human theologian
实底 and 确据, Hebrews’ own compact definition of faith, are somewhat classical-flavored compounds not in everyday speech; must be taught explicitly rather than assumed self-evident, and kept distinct from a vague, wishful, fortune-seeking ‘hope for the best’ sentiment common in folk speech. 客旅 (strangers and sojourners) must be read as forward-looking, hope-filled longing for a promised heavenly homeland, not Buddhist-style renunciation/detachment (出家) pursued as a spiritual technique in itself.
Perseverance and Assurance
Mandarin name: 坚忍到底与得救的确据
Key terms: anchor, oath_unchangeable, unshakeable_kingdom, to_perfect, author_and_perfecter
Review routing: Human theologian
Assurance rests on God’s unchangeable oath and Christ’s finished, once-for-all priestly work (完全/成全), not on an ongoing, uncertain merit-ledger (功德) that could always still tip unfavorably — the same Critical caution already established for ‘Assurance of Salvation’ in the Romans baseline, intensified here by Hebrews’ repeated 完全/成全 vocabulary, which directly borrows the Neo-Confucian self-cultivation-into-sagehood register.
Inspiration and Authority of Scripture
Mandarin name: 圣经的默示与权威
Key terms: word_of_god, promise
Review routing: Human theologian
God’s direct, personal speech through Scripture (‘God, having spoken… has now spoken to us by his Son’) must be distinguished from the Chinese classical canon (经, jīng, e.g. the Confucian Five Classics or the Daoist Daodejing), authoritative as accumulated sage-wisdom rather than as the verbal communication of a personal, speaking God through appointed human authors. 神的道 (the word of God, 4:12) must also be kept visually and conceptually distinct from the technical incarnation compound 道成肉身 already established in the Romans baseline, where 道 denotes the eternal personal Word/Son rather than Scripture’s message.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Divine Discipline
Mandarin name: 神的管教
Key terms: discipline, father, holy
Review routing: Native speaker review
管教 is positively resonant with the Confucian family-formation ideal of parental discipline (家教), which can serve as a genuine cultural bridge; but it must be clarified as loving, purposeful, holiness-oriented fatherly discipline (linked to established 父) rather than honor/shame-driven punitive correction tied to family ‘face’ (面子).
The Rest of God
Mandarin name: 神的安息
Key terms: rest
Review routing: Native speaker review
安息 must be distinguished from Daoist effortless non-striving (无为) or mere physical repose; this is covenantal, eschatological rest — entering God’s own completed redemptive purpose through faith, which Israel’s wilderness generation forfeited through unbelief (不信).
The Unshakeable Kingdom and Final Glory
Mandarin name: 不能震动的国与末后的荣耀
Key terms: unshakeable_kingdom, glory, firstborn
Review routing: Native speaker review
不能震动的国 reuses established 神的国 exactly with an added modifier; must avoid framing as a merely stable this-worldly political dynasty (the 天下 collision already flagged in the Romans baseline) rather than God’s cosmically permanent, eschatological reign grounded in the events just expounded throughout the letter.
Low Risk Doctrines
Christian Ethical Living
Mandarin name: 基督徒的生活伦理
Key terms: hospitality, sacrifice_of_praise, discipline

Practical exhortations (hospitality, marriage, contentment, honoring leaders, sacrifice of praise) carry standard vocabulary with minor collision risk; the only notable caution is that 称谢的祭 (sacrifice of praise) must be read as a deliberate metaphorical transformation of now-completed sacrificial vocabulary into worship and good works, not a reintroduction of ongoing propitiatory offerings.
