Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — Ezekiel (English → Mandarin)
Purpose
This document is the full doctrine risk matrix for Phase 2 routing decisions, extending assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json with (1) a macro-doctrine crosswalk to the 7 curriculum doctrines and (2) mandatory full-chapter coverage (Ezekiel 1-48). It must be loaded alongside translation_memory.json, bible_term_registry.json (baseline Romans), assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (Ezekiel), and analysis/08_core_glossary.md before any Phase 2 segment translation of Ezekiel content.
The core passage (Ezekiel 37:1-14) is the theological anchor of the curriculum, not its scope boundary. Every chapter of Ezekiel is analyzed below.
Part A — Macro-Doctrine Crosswalk
The 7 curriculum doctrines named in curriculum_parameters are realized in the registry as 24 discrete sub-doctrines. This crosswalk groups them for teaching and review-planning purposes. Risk tiers below are copied verbatim from assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json and must not be altered.

Part B — Full Doctrine Matrix (identical tiers to doctrine_risk_registry.json)
| # | Doctrine | Risk | Key Terms | Primary Passages (Ezekiel) | Translation Risk Notes | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Glory and Sovereignty of God | Critical | 荣耀, 主耶和华, 活物, 基路伯 | 1:1-28; 8-11; 37:1; 43:1-5; 48:35 | 荣耀 must never reduce to 面子/光宗耀祖; 主耶和华 must never abbreviate to 神 alone; the departure-return arc must be taught as one continuous narrative. | Human theologian |
| 2 | God’s Presence Departing and Returning | Critical | 荣耀, 基路伯, 耶和华的所在, 圣所 | 8:1-6; 10:1-22; 11:22-23; 43:1-5; 48:35 | Real historical covenant-judgment act, not “loss of fortune” (福气); final return is permanent, not a temporary theophany. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Call and Commissioning of the Prophet | Medium | 人子, 书卷, 耶和华的手 | 1:1-3:27 | 人子 shares NT Christological vocabulary; OT sense (mortal creatureliness) must stay distinct. | Native speaker review |
| 4 | Prophetic Accountability (Watchman) | High | 守望者, 警戒, 血债 | 3:16-21; 33:1-9 | Must not be taught as guilt-transfer to the watchman; each hearer retains personal responsibility. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Individual Responsibility for Sin | Critical | 人 (nephesh), 义人, 恶人, 回转/悔改, 父债不及子 | 14:12-23; 18:1-32; 33:10-20 | Sharpest worldview collision: directly refutes ancestral guilt/merit transfer (阴德-adjacent folk logic). 人 not 灵魂; 回转/悔改 not 忏悔. | Human theologian |
| 6 | Judgment on Jerusalem’s Idolatry | High | 偶像, 邱坛, 可憎的事, 行淫 | 6:1-14; 8:1-18; 16:1-63; 20:1-44; 23:1-49 | 偶像 loses gillulim’s built-in contempt; 邱坛 ≠ generic temple vocabulary; 行淫 requires formal, pastoral register. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Judgment on the Nations | High | 大鱼 (never 龙), 歌革/玛各 (see #21), recognition formula | 25:1-32:32; 35:1-15 | Pharaoh-as-tannim requires 大鱼; 龙 is forbidden (collides with 龙的传人 self-identity). Recognition formula extends sovereignty universally. | Human theologian |
| 8 | Covenant Unfaithfulness as Spiritual Adultery | High | 约, 行淫, 阿荷拉/阿荷利巴 | 16:1-63; 23:1-49 | 约 ≠ 合同/契约; 行淫 is a covenant-metaphor only, never literalized/sensationalized. | Human theologian |
| 9 | False Prophecy and Hollow Peace | High | 平安, 假先知, 粉饰 | 13:1-23 | Direct dramatization of baseline’s 平安-as-amulet-blessing warning; built-in teaching opportunity. | Human theologian |
| 10 | Sovereign Grace “For My Name’s Sake” | High | 为我的名, 恩典 | 20:1-44; 36:16-32 | OT structural parallel to baseline Critical-risk Grace doctrine; anti-merit-ledger emphasis (功德/阴德). | Human theologian |
| 11 | The New Heart and New Spirit | Critical | 新心, 新灵, 石心/肉心, 洁净的水, 灵 | 11:19-20; 18:31; 36:25-27 | NEVER 脱胎换骨 (Daoist alchemical self-transformation); cleansing water ≠ repeatable ritual lustration; distinguish from NT 圣灵. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Restoration and the Valley of Dry Bones | Critical | 骸骨, 活, 灵/气息/风, 坟墓, 复活 (typological) | 37:1-14 (core passage) | Highest-risk term-cluster in the book: ruach’s 7 occurrences span breath/wind/Spirit; mandatory notes at v.1, v.9, v.14; corporate/national referent, never individual reincarnation. | Human theologian |
| 13 | The Shepherd and the Davidic Prince | High | 牧人, 大卫我的仆人, 君王 | 34:1-31; 37:24-25; 44:1-3 | God-as-Shepherd distinct from David’s heir as under-shepherd/君王; 君王 ≠ 王 (guards against Mandate-of-Heaven dynastic framing). | Human theologian |
| 14 | The Covenant of Peace | High | 平安的约, 永约 | 34:25; 37:26 | Combines 约 + 平安; must be God-secured, not merely wished-for (cf. #9 as counter-example). | Human theologian |
| 15 | The Vision of the New Temple | Critical | 圣所, 殿, 样式, 祭司, 君王 | 40:1-42:20; 43:1-27; 44:1-31; 48:1-35 | Must never map onto 寺/道观/庙 or their veneration practices; literal-future / typological / idealized reading is an open interpretive question, not to be foreclosed. | Human theologian |
| 16 | Priesthood and Holiness of Worship | Medium | 祭司, 利未人, 圣衣, 供物 | 44:1-31; 45:1-46:24 | Standard vocabulary; teach as covenant order under a personal God, not generic ritual-purity technique. | Native speaker review |
| 17 | The River of Life | High | 活水, 生命河, 医治 | 47:1-12 | Major typological bridge to John 4/7, Revelation 22; must be distinguished from Daoist immortality-water mythology (仙水, 长生不老泉). | Human theologian |
| 18 | Recognition of the LORD’s Sovereignty (Recognition Formula) | High | 你们/他们就知道我是耶和华 | 6:7; 20:38-44; 25-32 (repeated); 37:6; 37:13-14 | ~65 occurrences; yada’s relational/intimate sense must not be flattened into a trivial refrain by sheer repetition. | Human theologian |
| 19 | Reunification of Israel (Two Sticks) | Medium | 以色列全家, 犹大家, 一国一王 | 37:15-28 | Covenant restoration under God’s shepherd-prince, not a this-worldly nationalist/dynastic reunification narrative. | Native speaker review |
| 20 | Eschatological Victory over Hostile Nations (Gog/Magog) | Medium | 歌革, 玛各 | 38:1-39:29 | Established transliterations; avoid over-identifying Gog with any specific modern nation/people. | Native speaker review |
| 21 | Pride and Fall of the King of Tyre (Eden Oracle) | High | 伊甸, 神的园子, 基路伯 | 28:1-19 | Popular “Satan’s fall” reading is secondary; primary referent is the human king of Tyre — flag, do not foreclose. | Human theologian |
| 22 | Bloodguilt and Social Justice | Medium | 流血的城, 欺压, 不义 | 22:1-31 | Covenantal bloodguilt sense, distinct from ritual blood-taboo or impersonal karmic retribution (报应). | Native speaker review |
| 23 | Sign-Acts as Prophetic Communication | Low | 记号性行动, 围城模型 | 4:1-5:17; 12:1-20; 24:15-27 | Low collision; keep guilt-bearing symbolism (4:4-6) tied to a personal covenant God, not 报应. | Automated review |
| 24 | Judgment Oracle Literary Forms (Lament, Allegory, Riddle) | Low | 哀歌, 比喻, 谜语, 葡萄树 | 15:1-8; 17:1-24; 19:1-14 | Genre vocabulary only; no significant doctrinal collision. | Automated review |
Risk totals (must match doctrine_risk_registry.json): Critical = 6, High = 11, Medium = 5, Low = 2. Human theologian review required = 17; native speaker review = 5; automated only = 2.

Critical Risk Doctrines
The Glory and Sovereignty of God
Mandarin name: 神的荣耀与主权
Key terms: glory, kavod, Sovereign LORD, hand of the LORD, recognition formula
Review routing: Human theologian
The compound title 主耶和华 and the term 荣耀 anchor this doctrine; 荣耀 must never be reduced toward 面子 (‘face’/social reputation) or 光宗耀祖 (ancestral family honor), both of which would collapse God’s radiant, self-sufficient glory into human social status. The book’s structuring narrative (glory departs ch.8-11, returns ch.43, dwells permanently ch.48) must be taught as a single continuous arc, not disconnected theophanies.
God’s Presence Departing and Returning
Mandarin name: 神的同在离开与归回
Key terms: glory of the LORD, cherub, the LORD is there, sanctuary
Review routing: Human theologian
The departure of God’s glory must be taught as a real, historically situated act of covenant judgment (God abandoning a defiled temple to Babylonian destruction), not a metaphor for a vague loss of ‘good fortune’ (福气流失) — guarding against the same 福/fortune collision the baseline already flags for gospel. The permanence of the final return (48:35, 耶和华的所在) must be distinguished from a temporary theophany.
Individual Responsibility for Sin
Mandarin name: 个人对罪的责任
Key terms: soul/person (nephesh), righteous, wicked, turn/repent, fathers-sons proverb
Review routing: Human theologian
This is the single sharpest worldview collision point in the curriculum for a Mandarin-speaking audience: ancestor-based guilt/merit transfer (ancestral curses passed to descendants; the inherited-merit logic underlying 阴德, already forbidden by baseline for grace) is widely assumed in Chinese folk religious practice. Ezekiel 18’s explicit proverb (‘the son shall not bear the guilt of the father’) must be translated and taught to directly refute this framework. 人 (not 灵魂) must be used for nephesh to avoid importing a detachable, transmigrating soul concept; 回转/悔改 must be distinguished from Buddhist ritual confession (忏悔) that purifies karma through technique.
The New Heart and New Spirit
Mandarin name: 新心与新灵
Key terms: new heart, new spirit, heart of stone/flesh, clean water, ruach
Review routing: Human theologian
新心/新灵/石心/肉心 must never be explained using the classical Daoist alchemical idiom 脱胎换骨 (‘shedding the womb, changing the bones’), a technique-driven, self-cultivated transformation toward physical immortality/transcendence — the exact opposite of this sovereign, gracious, one-time divine gift. The cleansing water (36:25) must be distinguished from repeatable folk/Daoist/Buddhist ritual lustration. This doctrine directly anticipates but must be lexically distinguished from the NT compound 圣灵 (which has no Hebrew equivalent phrase).
Restoration and the Valley of Dry Bones
Mandarin name: 枯骨复活的异象与以色列的复兴
Key terms: dry bones, live/come to life, ruach (breath/wind/Spirit), grave, resurrection (typological)
Review routing: Human theologian
This is the highest-risk single term-cluster in the book: Hebrew ruach occurs seven times in this passage across breath/wind/Spirit senses that no single Mandarin word can carry; a mandatory translator/teacher note is required at v.1, v.9, and v.14. Bones/graves must be taught as representing the corporate death of a nation in exile, not an ancestor-veneration or grave-geomancy (feng shui) scene, nor a literal individual-resurrection or reincarnation event (轮回/投胎/还魂 remain forbidden). The primary referent is national restoration, which typologically anticipates but is doctrinally distinct from the individual bodily resurrection anchored by baseline resurrection = 复活.
The Vision of the New Temple
Mandarin name: 新圣殿的异象
Key terms: sanctuary, temple/house, pattern, priest, prince
Review routing: Human theologian
圣所/殿 must be clearly distinguished from Buddhist 寺 or Daoist 道观 (per baseline church note) and never mapped onto existing Chinese temple architecture or its associated ancestor/idol veneration practices. The vision must be taught as God’s ordered, holy, restored presence among his people — whether understood as literal future temple, idealized template, or fulfilled in Christ and the church — not as a generic sacred-space analogy.
High Risk Doctrines
Prophetic Accountability (Watchman)
Mandarin name: 先知的守望责任
Key terms: watchman, warn, blood on his own head
Review routing: Human theologian
The watchman image (守望者) must not be taught as the watchman bearing others’ guilt in their place — a reading that would harmonize too easily with clan/ancestor-based guilt-transfer assumptions common in Chinese folk religion. The doctrine requires each hearer’s own responsibility to respond, directly linked to the ch.18 Individual Responsibility doctrine.
Judgment on Jerusalem’s Idolatry
Mandarin name: 耶路撒冷因拜偶像受审判
Key terms: idols (gillulim), high place, abomination, harlotry
Review routing: Human theologian
偶像 is a neutral, standard Mandarin term that loses the built-in contempt of the Hebrew gillulim; teaching must convey the visceral disgust of the original vocabulary. 邱坛 must be distinguished from generic temple/shrine vocabulary (庙, 道观) already flagged under baseline church. The marriage-covenant/harlotry allegory (行淫) requires formal, pastoral register, never literalized or sensationalized.
Judgment on Jerusalem and the Nations
Mandarin name: 对耶路撒冷与列国的审判
Key terms: Ammon, Moab, Edom, Tyre, Sidon, Egypt, sea monster/dragon, recognition formula
Review routing: Human theologian
The oracle against Egypt (Pharaoh as tannim) requires 大鱼, never 龙 (dragon) — China’s supreme auspicious imperial/cultural symbol (‘descendants of the dragon,’ 龙的传人); using 龙 for a figure of divine judgment and humiliating defeat would be a severe, avoidable collision comparable to the historic 神/上帝 Term Question. The repeated recognition formula across these chapters extends God’s sovereignty claim universally to all nations, not only Israel.
Covenant Unfaithfulness as Spiritual Adultery
Mandarin name: 背约如同淫乱
Key terms: covenant, harlotry, Oholah and Oholibah
Review routing: Human theologian
约 must retain its relational, divinely initiated covenant-bond sense (not 合同/契约, an ordinary commercial contract between equals); the marriage-covenant frame intensifies this baseline warning. 行淫 must be taught strictly as a covenant-unfaithfulness metaphor (idolatry pictured as marital infidelity), preserved in formal, pastoral register per baseline tone rules despite the passage’s explicit content.
False Prophecy and Hollow Peace
Mandarin name: 假先知与虚假的平安
Key terms: peace (shalom), false prophets, whitewash
Review routing: Human theologian
This chapter directly illustrates the baseline’s own warning about 平安: false prophets pronounce a generic, ritualistic well-being blessing (structurally identical to the amulet/greeting sense of 平安 the baseline flags as Medium risk for peace) detached from covenant reality. The chapter becomes a built-in teaching opportunity to reinforce, not merely repeat, that warning.
Sovereign Grace (‘For My Name’s Sake’)
Mandarin name: 为神自己名的缘故所施的恩典
Key terms: for my name’s sake, not for your sake, grace
Review routing: Human theologian
God’s explicit statement that he acts ‘not for your sake… but for my holy name’s sake’ is the OT’s clearest structural parallel to the baseline’s Critical-risk Grace doctrine (恩典): action taken apart from the recipient’s merit. Must be taught in direct connection with 恩典 to reinforce the baseline’s anti-merit-ledger emphasis against the Buddhist folk-religious concepts of 功德 and 阴德.
The Shepherd and the Davidic Prince
Mandarin name: 牧人与大卫的君王
Key terms: shepherd, David my servant, prince (nasi)
Review routing: Human theologian
God as ultimate Shepherd (牧人) must be kept distinct from David’s heir as under-shepherd/君王; the deliberate use of נָשִׂיא (rendered 君王, not plain 王) reflects theocratic subordination and must not be collapsed into a Mandate-of-Heaven-style dynastic-legitimacy framing, which the baseline’s kingdom_of_god note already warns against for Chinese readers.
The Covenant of Peace
Mandarin name: 平安的约/永约
Key terms: covenant of peace, everlasting covenant, peace
Review routing: Human theologian
Combines baseline covenant (约) and peace (平安); must retain both the relational-covenant sense of 约 and the genuine, God-secured (not merely wished-for) sense of 平安, avoiding the amulet-blessing collision the baseline already flags and which Ezekiel 13 dramatizes as a counter-example.
The River of Life
Mandarin name: 生命河的异象
Key terms: living water, river flowing from the temple, healing
Review routing: Human theologian
活水 is a major typological bridge to Jesus’ ‘living water’ sayings (John 4, 7) and Revelation 22’s river of life; must be explicitly distinguished from Daoist immortality-water/elixir mythology (仙水, 长生不老泉), an intuitively appealing but doctrinally wrong cultural analogy for a river that heals and gives abundant life.
Recognition of the LORD’s Sovereignty (Recognition Formula)
Mandarin name: 认识耶和华为主的公式
Key terms: then you/they shall know that I am the LORD
Review routing: Human theologian
This ~65-occurrence formula must retain יָדַע’s intimate, relational, covenantal sense, not mere cognitive identification; sheer repetition risks reducing 你们/他们就知道我是耶和华 to a trivial refrain in a Mandarin rendering unless teaching materials repeatedly reinforce its relational depth.
The Pride and Fall of the King of Tyre (Eden Oracle)
Mandarin name: 推罗王的骄傲与败落(伊甸的默示)
Key terms: Eden, garden of God, cherub, pride, cast down
Review routing: Human theologian
Popular tradition often reads this oracle as describing Satan’s primordial fall, though its primary grammatical and historical referent is the human king of Tyre; translators and teachers must flag this as an interpretive question rather than translating or annotating in a way that forecloses the primary sense in favor of an assumed angelology.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Call and Commissioning of the Prophet
Mandarin name: 先知的呼召与受命
Key terms: son of man, scroll, hand of the LORD
Review routing: Native speaker review
God’s address ‘son of man’ (人子) is the same Mandarin compound as Christ’s NT title; teaching must keep the OT sense (mortal creatureliness) distinct from NT Christological usage so learners moving between curricula are not confused.
Priesthood and Holiness of Worship
Mandarin name: 祭司职任与敬拜的圣洁
Key terms: priest, Levite, holy garments, offerings
Review routing: Native speaker review
祭司 is standard, low-collision vocabulary, but the surrounding holiness regulations should be taught as expressions of covenant order under a personal God, not as generic ritual-purity technique resembling Daoist/Buddhist temple practice.
Reunification of Israel (Two Sticks Becoming One)
Mandarin name: 以色列的合一(两根杖合为一)
Key terms: house of Israel, house of Judah, one nation, one king
Review routing: Native speaker review
以色列全家 must retain corporate, whole-nation scope; the reunification promise should be taught as covenant restoration under God’s chosen shepherd-prince, not as a this-worldly nationalist or dynastic reunification narrative.
Eschatological Victory over Hostile Nations (Gog and Magog)
Mandarin name: 末后对歌革玛各的得胜
Key terms: Gog, Magog, final battle, God’s victory
Review routing: Native speaker review
歌革/玛各 are established transliterations for apocalyptic figures whose precise historical/future referent is debated; teaching must avoid over-identifying Gog with any specific modern nation or people group, preserving the text’s function as assurance of God’s ultimate victory over all hostile powers.
Bloodguilt and Social Justice
Mandarin name: 流血之罪与社会公义
Key terms: bloodshed, the bloody city, oppression, injustice
Review routing: Native speaker review
血/流血的城 must retain the covenantal bloodguilt sense (unjust killing that defiles the land and demands reckoning before a personal God), distinct from ritual blood-taboo concerns that could be read into it from folk practice.
Low Risk Doctrines
Sign-Acts as Prophetic Communication
Mandarin name: 先知的记号性行动
Key terms: sign-act, siege model, lying on one’s side, shaving hair, boiling pot
Review routing: Automated review
These dramatized enactments of coming judgment carry low collision risk; standard descriptive vocabulary suffices, with attention only to keeping the guilt-bearing symbolism (4:4-6) tied to a personal covenant God rather than impersonal karmic retribution (报应).
Judgment Oracle Literary Forms (Lament, Allegory, Riddle)
Mandarin name: 审判默示的文学形式(哀歌、比喻、谜语)
Key terms: lament (qinah), allegory/parable (mashal), riddle (chidah), vine
Review routing: Automated review
Genre/literary-device vocabulary (哀歌/比喻/谜语) carries no significant doctrinal collision; standard translation suffices.
