09 Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis — 1 Corinthians (Full Book) — English → Bengali
Purpose and Method
This document executes PRD Phase 1 Step 3: a full-book cross-reference matrix of every Old Testament quotation and allusion in 1 Corinthians, every messianic reference and typological pattern, and every doctrinal/lexical parallel to the Romans curriculum already certified for Bengali. It builds directly on analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md and analysis/08_core_glossary.md and does not re-derive term-level risk already established there; it cross-references those terms where relevant.
Citation format: All Scripture references in this document use the normalizable English form Book Chapter:Verse (e.g., “1 Corinthians 15:3”, “Genesis 15:6”, “Isaiah 40:13”). This is the same convention used in 07_semantic_analysis.md and is distinct from the Bengali-script citation convention (রোমীয় ৩:২৩ style) specified for reader-facing Phase 2 output in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md. Phase 2 must convert normalized citations to the Bengali house-style citation format at render time.
Every chapter of 1 Corinthians (1–16) is represented below. Chapters with no direct Old Testament quotation are explicitly marked “reviewed — no direct OT citation” rather than silently omitted, per the PRD full-book coverage mandate.

Part 2 — Messianic References and Typology

Christ as the Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7) — fulfills Exodus 12:1-13. Christ’s sacrificial death removes the “leaven” of the old life just as Israel removed leaven before the Passover meal. Sensitivity: High — reinforces সacrificial-substitution imagery already logged for নিস্তারপর্ব (Passover, glossary #17); must preserve deliverance/substitution force, not merely festival naming.

Christ as the Rock in the wilderness (1 Corinthians 10:4, “that Rock was Christ”) — fulfills Exodus 17:6 / Numbers 20:8-11. This is one of the most doctrinally direct typological identifications in the letter: Paul states the pre-incarnate Christ was actively present with and sustaining Israel. Sensitivity: Critical — bears directly on the
deity_of_christdoctrine category; must not be rendered as mere metaphor (“like a rock”) but as typological identity (“the Rock was Christ himself”). -

Christ as the Last Adam / life-giving Spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45-49) — contrasts with the first Adam of Genesis 2:7 and Genesis 3. Christ is the new representative head of a redeemed humanity, reversing Adam’s death-bringing headship. Sensitivity: High — must be rendered in exact doctrinal coordination with Romans 5:12-21 (see Part 3, Part 4 Rule 4).

Christ as the fulfillment of the Suffering Servant’s atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3, “died for our sins according to the Scriptures”) — Isaiah 53:5-12 stands behind this creedal formula, though not quoted verbatim. Sensitivity: Critical — the vicarious/substitutionary force (ὑπέρ, “for/on behalf of,” glossary #73) must be preserved exactly as flagged in

Christ as the “one Lord” of the reworked Shema (1 Corinthians 8:6) — Paul takes Deuteronomy 6:4’s foundational Jewish confession of God’s oneness and restructures it around “one God, the Father… and one Lord, Jesus Christ,” placing Christ within the identity of the one God without dividing monotheism. Part 4 — Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations and Terms
Rule 1. Isaiah 40:13 is quoted with verbatim-identical Greek in both Romans 11:34 and 1 Corinthians 2:16 (“For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?”). The Bengali rendering of this clause must be identical in both curricula’s translation memory. Phase 2 workers translating either verse must check the other curriculum’s completed rendering before finalizing and must not independently re-translate.
Rule 2. Deuteronomy 32:21 is quoted directly in Romans 10:19 and alluded to in 1 Corinthians 10:22 (“shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy?”). Use consistent vocabulary for “provoke to jealousy” across both curricula (recommended: ঈর্ষা উদ্দীপ্ত করা / জ্বালাতন করা — final selection to be confirmed at Phase 2 glossary sign-off).
Rule 3. Genesis 2:24, quoted in 1 Corinthians 6:16 and forming the creation-marriage background of chapter 7, should render “one flesh” as এক দেহ consistently throughout 1 Corinthians. This term does not currently exist in the Romans baseline TM and should be proposed as a new shared cross-curriculum term.
Rule 4. The Adam-Christ federal-headship typology spans Romans 5:12-21 and 1 Corinthians 15:21-22,45-49. Coordinated terminology is required for: “Adam” (আদম), “in Adam” / “in Christ” (আদমে / খ্রীষ্টে), “the last Adam” (শেষ আদম / অন্তিম আদম), and “life-giving Spirit” (জীবনদায়ী আত্মা). Both curricula’s Phase 2 outputs must be reconciled against a single shared sub-glossary entry for this typology before either is finalized.
Rule 5. “Jesus is Lord” (যীশু প্রভু, Romans 10:9) and its direct antithesis “Jesus is accursed” (যীশু অভিশপ্ত, 1 Corinthians 12:3) must remain lexically and structurally mirrored, using প্রভু and অভিশপ্ত exactly as recorded, so that the Spirit-discernment test in 1 Corinthians 12:3 reads as the unambiguous grammatical opposite of the Romans 10:9 salvation confession.
Rule 6. গর্ব করা (boast, καυχάομαι), used in 1 Corinthians 1:29,31; 3:21; 4:7; 13:4 and echoing Romans 3:27; 4:2, must retain the same “redirected, not eliminated, boasting” nuance (“let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord”) in both curricula, never implying that all self-confidence or joy is forbidden.
Rule 7. নিয়ম (covenant), established in the Romans baseline TM for the Davidic/Mosaic covenant sense, must extend without alteration to “new covenant” (নতুন নিয়ম) in 1 Corinthians 11:25, and this rendering should also anticipate consistency with any future Gospel Last Supper curriculum (Matthew 26:28; Luke 22:20).
Rule 8. প্রেম (love, ἀγάπη) is a genuinely new Critical-risk term not present in the Romans baseline TM, despite Romans discussing love extensively (Romans 5:5,8; 8:35,39; 12:9-10; 13:8-10). Because 1 Corinthians 13 is the letter’s flagship treatment of love, this curriculum’s approved rendering of প্রেম — together with its required translator note distinguishing Pauline ἀγάπη from Vaishnava bhakti and Tagore-poetic romantic-devotional প্রেম — should become the retroactive standard applied to Romans’s occurrences of ἀγάπη in any future re-certification pass of the Romans Language Package.
Rule 9. শরীর (body, σῶμα) carries three distinct senses across 1 Corinthians: the physical body (ch.6), the Eucharistic body (ch.11), and the ecclesial body of Christ (ch.12). The ch.12 ecclesial sense must match Romans 12:4-5’s “one body in Christ” rendering exactly, while remaining clearly distinguished — by context and translator note, never by a different Bengali word — from the other two senses.
Rule 10. বিবেক (conscience) and বিঘ্ন (stumbling block), central to 1 Corinthians 8-10, must be rendered identically wherever the Romans curriculum’s Phase 2 translation addresses the same Greek terms (Romans 14:13,20-21), even though neither term is yet formally recorded in the Romans baseline TM. Both are recommended for addition to a shared cross-curriculum glossary maintained alongside translation_memory.json.

It must be consulted alongside analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md and analysis/08_core_glossary.md before Phase 2 segment translation begins, and its Part 4 rendering-consistency rules must be checked against the Romans Language Package’s translation_memory.json before any shared-quotation segment is finalized.
